VERY CONFUSING, TAKES ATTENDANCE, NOT EASY, TESTS ARE HARD AND THE ESSAY QUESTIONS MAKE ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. REALLY BORING. DONT TAKE.
This guy just stands there and talks about his slide show of different pictures from online. If you like to learn do not take. He did nothening for me but bore me to death. Also he doesn't cover any of the material in depth. Doesn't grade fair niether.
boooooooo
full of himself if your a nazi, take his class and don't forget to tell him to wipe off that white, foamy spit that gathers at the corners of his mouth
Not the best, but not the worst either.
Confusing and scattered lectures. Do not take in the morning because it is a boring class and you WILL fall asleep for sure. Stay away.
Bill is a crazy. He rambles on and on about meaningless crap. Grades like crap also
Stands and lectures entire class period. Will put you to sleep. Test are easy; open note, just take good notes and you'll do fine. Papers are a bit more difficult, but if you ask him for help, he'll explain, though not always clearly. Be ready to sleep!
A very interesting and enjoyable class - if you are actually interested in history and if you want to learn something. Lots of writing.
I really dug his class, but maybe only because I dig history. This is a prof that loves his subject. You have to do the readings, but he gives you wicked study guides and basically tests you on the terms. He lets you write the essay section at home(!)
he reminds me of the cartoon "king of the hill", he talks that way, so it makes the class humerous
Easy grader. Sometimes boring. Very helpful. Easy tests. Essays a bit more difficult. Not really fun but not too bad. Keeping up on the reading assignments and taking good notes is helpful (things i didn't do). I got a B with minimal effort.
This teacher was so unhelpful. I called, emialed, and even went to his office hours and he didn't help AT ALL. highly UNrecomended
Very full of himself. I think he just like to hear his own voice! looong lectures. Poor grader.
This is actually pretty cool. I thought he was going to be a hard &$$, but if you respect the class and what he has to say then he'll treat you fair. Just write what he writes on the board and do his worksheet reviews and it's an easy B
This guy knows all about history. If you work hard and are prepared you should do great! Overall he is a pretty good teacher. Pretty easy class.
very helpful teacher. if you pay attention during lecture, you'll see that the tests are very easy! Loved the class...easy A.
I liked his classes. Disagreed with his politics, but respectfully on both sides. He's a real nice guy. The Southern accent gives a picture of what he teaches
He's a good teacher, but there's just a lot of notes.
VERY EASY. Alot of notes but puts them on blackboard. He is so easy you dont need to ask him questions he tells you the questions for the tests and posts them on black board. He is definately not full of himself i think he is modest and extremely sweet. He cares very much and is extremely interested in his subject. Hes a good guy.
great guy, easy class.. go to class do what he asks and you will get an A if not easy B.. if you like no homework and easy grades then you will like this guy.. strongly recommended
a lpt of notes! the class was only out of 3 thing, 2 test and an oral, if you are not a good test taker dont take thig guy.
The guy below me obviously wasn't serious about the class. It was a fun class, very informative. Could've gotten away with just taking notes and not reading the books. Have the whole semester to do the oral presentation. Mid-term and final are hard but easy. Great teacher!
Great Person! Just take notes, two test and one presentation. He is very clear and wants to help you.
Although he is somewhat boring, his occasional corny jokes are pretty funny. Also, he knows his stuff. You really do learn a lot in this class if you can stay awake. He's pretty easy too. All there is, is a midterm, a speech, and a final. Honestly if you take notes, you'll get an A in this class.

This teacher is very good, despite what all the people who said bad things about him, those people obviously screwed up and didn't do anything. I haven't read a single thing in the book that he told us to read, and just reviewed the power point outlines he does in class, and so far i've done really well, he does give 2 tests...

Great teacher who enjoys his subject and keeps his course open to discussion. If you keep up with the reading, do your definitions, and look over the powerpoint presentations on blackboard you will do good on the exams.Exams are m/c about 50 quest. and are on the definitions that you should be keeping up with.Grade also depends on oral presentation.
One of the best teachers at saddleback. Not an easy class but if you are looking to learn something about history you must take history from this guy. He loves it when people ask questions and can handle any questions you throw at him. I'm sure there are more easy history classes, but unlike most classes you will walk away smarter because of him.
Is VERY EASY! My only complaint is he takes role every day, lectures on powerpoint that you can get online. In the semester expect 4-5 Quizes(10 mult choice), 1 midterm(50-60 Q's, plus EASY A on take home essay), 1 final(plus EASY A take home essay), and you have an oral pres. to give (keep the class awake=easy A. Basically have a pulse to get A
this guy is a hick... he tries and tries to influence his students with his biased views, and takes attendance daily with about 6 quizes and 3 tests.. he takes forever to update grades, on one hand the class isnt too hard but the guy is a real moron. stay away from this class if your actually going to pay attention.
he knows his stuff but is extremely dry. those comments below about him being funny.....hes not. you really need to pay attention and study the material. do the keyterms he gives you for homework (which is optional) for studying for the quizes and exams, and you'll pass. the oral is a pain..but i got a A-. worked really hard too. C in the class.
Mr. Billingsley is a lovely man who is organized, professional, good-natured, and has the manners of a Southern gentleman. I highly recommend him. Warning: there's an oral report that's a major part of the grade. And tests are pretty challenging.
by far the most boring teacher of my life. it seemed to me like he didnt teach one thing in that class. i always found myself dozing off to sleep or playing games on my cellphone. hard****. highly recommend staying away from this guy.
Hes a nice guy, but he isn't too great of a teacher. His final was ill-prepared. He didn't have time to go over most of the lecture notes, so we just read the rest of the book not knowing what was on it. It could be an internet class. we also skipped right over WWI and II in less than a day for each. Mostly it is a class on Jim Crow.
A very knowledgable and articulate professor. Someone called him a hick? Hardly.. just because someone speaks with a southern accent doesn't default them as a "hick," saying something like that is just ignorance. I would say that Billingsley is among the best professors at Saddleback. Has a somewhat unique teaching style that is admirable IMO.
Get off topic occasionally. Reading the chapters is all you need. Going to class counts.. Show him you care , and he'll hook you up... as he did for me
Billingsly is probably one of the most annoying teachers i have ever had. He goes off topic a lot he states that there is no point system but he bases your grade off of effort and attendance which is completly untrue if he likes you he will give you a decent grade. He didn't like me but i was there every day and did awesome on the test and i got a
He is a pretty nice man. We only took 2 tests.. a midterm and final. 1 presentation. He is very opinionated and sticks to what he says. Showing up to class is a must and dont leave early... he hates that!
Billinsly is a great teacher because he knows how to teach American history while relating to current issues and multiple subjects. He has 4-5 online quizzes, 1 mid-term w/ essay, 1 oral presentation, attendence points, and the final (open notebook) w/ a take-home essay. Take notes from lectures, and do the chapter terms and you will do well.
4-5 Quizzes which are pretty easy. Mid-Terms hard deffinetley based off the text book.If you write your paper and think you deserve and A on it expect a C and same with the project. In my personal opinion he grades you based on how much he likes you. Take another teacher if you can.
Prof. Billingsley is perhaps one of the most succint, eloquent, and value-driven instructor that I've ever had in my history studies career. He also provide us with some EC for our own convenient success in the future. I like the lectures that he taught. Very helpful, take him!
This class was really difficult, he doesnt offer you much help and he grades really hard. The quizzes are easy, but the midterm and the final are pretty difficult. Try to take a different class if you want to get an A
Great teacher! Always willing to help and is loaded with information. Tests are on average easy and essays are hard from time to time but all in all great class! He knows his history!
He was very nice, and if you are willing to make time he will help you and go over your essays with you. He also picks a class favorite depending upon smarts.
Take lots of notes and everything will be OK. Most test questions come from his lectures and aren't very difficult. I didn't read from the book once and passed with an A. Always ask him to review your essay before the test, he will tell you what to change and you are going to get an A. One project and very little homework = easy
Great professor, quiz counts most of grade and they are online, and very easy
Fantastic teacher! Prob. the best teacher I have ever had at Saddleback! Knows his History and is always there to help you. Quizes are fairly easy- open book and essays are fairly moderate. Great choice for a History professor!
Easy class, nice professor. All quizzes are open notes, tests the same. Four 2-4pg, dbl spaced papers. He loves to discuss and think out loud...if you bring up politics or philosophy, he'll ramble the whole class. Be prepared to put your conflicting beliefs/ideas in the back seat-he gave me "D"s on papers where I disagreed with him. Very easy class
Great teacher, smart, funny, 5 essays, 5 quizzes, 2 test. Final is open note. Easy and interesting!!
Mr. Billingsley ROCKS! He is seriously one of my favorite professors at Saddleback. 5 essays, 5 quizzes, 2 finals. Counts 4 highest essays and quizzes. Available to look over your papers and answer any and all questions. Great at email response. Funny and passionate about history. Very organized and prepared. This is a MUST take class! LOVED it!
He is really passionate about history. He tends to go on tangents and his writing is somewhat illegible, but he is def. willing to help every student. Very nice and if you show effort and pay attention in class he'll cater grades to your effort as well as the quality. he drops the lowest quiz and essay score. do work, go to class/ office hours= A
He is extremely passionate about history. He tends to go on tangents and off topic and his writing needs help, very dedicated to helping the focused student succeed. he drops the lowest quiz score. Attend his office hours! SUPER SUPER helpful and he actually gives you free points on your papers for attending office hours. Minimal effort for an A
hes a good teacher but american history is his thing, not world history. if your good at short essays and tests then your good, but if your not intereted in history then don't bother. you need the book and his hand writing sucks so you have to listen to what hes saying
Mr. Billingsley seemed pretty cool at first, but he's really not. I got dropped and now I have a withdrawal on my record.. and guess what for... for not producing the 1st essay that he assigned. He said it was only worth 25 points and said it was important, but did NOT specify that he would drop anyone who did not complete it. Don't take him.
I loved Professor Billingsley's classes. Assignments are clear and relatively straightforward. He has flexible office hours. Very engaging lectures and especially interesting for history majors. He has a more radical view of history that can be very eye-opening and fascinating. I definitely recommend him as a professor. One of Saddleback's best.
sorry but this class is boring! a kid next to me slept basically every class. don't take this unless you are really interested in history. he definitely likes certain people more than others. he can be funny sometimes. too many papers that aren't worth anything though. see for yourself though i stuck through it.
I pretty much thought his class was really dull, and kind of pointless. He grades his essays super hard, Like I got A's on all the quizzes and tests and the essays which are worth 25pts its all a popularity contest. Those he likes get good grades on those. He is unhelpful in his comments too.
Absolutely horrible professor. Classes are boring and pointless but tests are relatively easy. However, essays are graded extremely difficultly with some kids getting 1-5 points out of thirty an only those getting good grades his favorites.
Such a funny guy but his class was sooo boring. Me and my friend couldn't stand it... we often ditched. His tests are pretty easy as long as you took good notes. You have to write an essay every 2-3 weeks and it's impossible to get an A on them. I would recommend taking this class with a friend to break up the monotony of the class
I did not like Billingsly at first at all and thought about dropping the class, but after awhile he grows on you. If he sees you participating he will LOVE you. He wants you to be interested in what he is lecturing on. The essays are pretty long and tedious, but it helps you add points if you're a bad test taker. His tests are pretty hard.
LOVED HIM! He's very passionate about what he does, and is crystal clear about what he wants. Class is kinda boring, and there are 2 book reports. A quiz comes every 2-3 weeks online, and theyre fairly easy if you take notes or study. Take him, he's super nice and caring. Plus, he has a kind of forest gump accent, which was entertaining =)
Billingsley is so funny!! five quizzes(online), one mid term and a final (which you can use your notes on). His jokes are hiliarious, hes from the south, and he great teacher!!!
I really enjoyed Billingsley's class! I thought he was kind of lame at first, and while he is awfully political in his lectures, I didn't mind so much. Papers are fairly easy, he basically gave the outline to the second one. If you're into history, you'll get a kick out of it. He was really nice and likes the students he knows are into it!
well, before i start, i just want to say that i have nothing against this professor. he is a very nice man. but just be aware that any actual learning you do will be from reading the book. his lectures are just rambles and sometimes off-topic. tests are easy and homework is minimal.
His class consists of a few online quizzes, two papers based on books, a midterm and a final. He's a really good teacher for those interested in history, as I am. I had no trouble with any assignment in his class but if you don't care for history or struggle with it it may be a littler harder for you. Either way, good teacher and take him.
Really great teacher. Has some online quiz's. You do a couple of papers on books you read during the semester. Not only is he a great teacher, but he's funny as well. He's a good teacher that keeps you interested even when the chapter isn't so interesting. He does take attendance for each class, but 100% attendance isn't mandatory.
Pretty easy going guy. Has some online quizes (easy points), and a couple of books you read and then write papers on. He passes out a roll sheet, but if you miss a couple of classes its no big deal. You will have to study and read! But other than that, he's totally worth taking.
A professor that truly cares for students that demonstrate a willingness to listen and comprehend the material, which is a breeze when the lectures are as provoking as they are. It's quite rare to run into a professor that doesn't sugarcoat American history and has no issues being critical of our own nation's past, so nothing felt mundane to me.
Do not take this teacher! Notes are on board, and his hand writing is not legible. I went to his office hours through out the semester and was told that I would have no problem receiving a passing grade. In the end I was 1.5 points away and he did not round up. Tests and papers are very hard, especially since he is not clear on what he expects!
I would not suggest taking this teacher unless you have to. He puts his left wing ideals in the class and he is hard to listen to and take seriously. His handwriting is horrible and expects you to understand what he writes down or else you will have a difficult time on the tests. If you don't have to take this teacher then don't.
As a person? Super nice! He's friendly and helpful. But on the other hand, going to class is next to pointless, even though if you miss 3 classes, he says he'll drop you. His handwritten notes make NO SENSE. Overall though, easy class that I could pass without attending. Quizzes online, one essay, midterm and a final you can use notes on!
Great history teacher! His humor and the way he teaches kept me interested. Aside from 2 essays, the homework is pretty much optional. I managed to get a B without doing any of it. His quizzes that lead up to the midterm/final are almost identical. Going to class is highly recommended!
Good professor. He definitely seems passionate about history, but for some reason, I've had a hard time paying attention. Lecture can get jumbled up and confusing at times. But online tests are easy A's and he drops lowest of the 6. You definitely need the books, they will help a LOT. Also a very helpful professor. Recommended for History fans.
He grades the papers he assigns, terribly. I don't remember there being an English prereq to this class.. Don't take him unless you have to. So boring.
Overall great teacher. He wanted us to read the book, but it's not really necessary. (I never did and got an A)The tests are really easy, and he lets us bring in any notes for the final. There are also two essays. He grades those a bit harshly, but if you ask him for help on them he will spend a good hour giving you topics and ideas. Great class!
Grades the papers way too harshly, I always do well in history and have gotten A's from my other professors. It's a shame he was the only one I could take. I would tell everyone to avoid his class.
Awesome teacher! He cares & really helps his students. He is lenient & undrstndng. He wants u to succeed but u cant slack off & expect an A to be handed to u. He is funny and likes students to be engaged in lectures. His class is NOT boring (u might find history boring, but he is not). Also he was Michael Jordan's teacher back in the day.
two essays, 6 quizzes. Harsh grader on essays. Tests are multiple choice. Notebooks allowed on Final. Passionate about history and getting students involved. I would defiantly take his class again.
This class is pretty boring, but if you go to class, pay attention, and take good notes you can get a good grade. He is a helpful teacher easy to approach. Cares about his students. There is one essay and he grades it pretty harshly.
Great teacher really enjoys history, pay attention and you'll get a good grade
Quite intelligent, interesting, and encourages students to speak up. notes are slides and as long as you review your notes, You'll Be Fine.
Teacher loves he's work but suck at teaching it. He will always get off topic and talk about thing not on the test or pertaining to history for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. He grades your essays like an English teacher. And he seems lonely because he makes it pretty clear that you need to show up to office hours to get a decent grade. Don't take him
very tough grader when it came dow to Essays but he is a good teacher just a hard teacher when it came to essays.
Professor Billingsley class was my favorite class during the spring semester. He likes his students to interact during his lectures so participate. 2 Papers (be sure not to wait to start these, he will grade these like an english teacher), 10 online quizzes, 1 midterm(No notes) and 1 final( can use daily notes). He is very fair and a great teacher.
The best teacher I've had in my life! He is very good at reinforcing important points and his style helps students retain only necessary items from his lectures. The class isn't dependent on memorization like a lot of history classes. Billingsley's style has helped me learn more than memorization ever could, even though I don't care about history!
if you ask him to look at your essay before you turn it in he will give you a slightly higher grade. I got an a - just for doing what he asked. I loved his class although I wish we talked about ww2 more. he is interesting and is very bright
Billingsley takes care of the talking in class for the most part because he truly know what he is talking about. He can give you the history of British literature date by date from start to finish. Tough class but very worth the knowledge gained.
Very interesting professor. He gives great lectures with his North Carolina accent. He is a difficult grader on the two essays, but he's much more lenient on the midterm and final. Take his class.
He is an interesting professor. He is more than willing to help you. He assigns 2 major papers, and about 5 online quizzes, a midterm and final. The final (open-notes) consisted of 8 short (thorough) answers of terms, and an essay on a question. He is friendly and helpful. However, you may find yourself lost at times, but don't worry.
Mr. Billingsley is worth took take any history class. He respects you! He helps you in any way possible and he is just simply a fun teacher to be around.
Open book test! Very inspirational, his lectures was amazing! Very open to thoughts and open discussion! Overall great teacher
Cares about you, If you show him you care about the class. 4 total essays for class, 2 on books, and 1 for mid-term and 1 for final. If you go to him for help he is willing to proof read and give suggestions. He is a very tough grader tho on essays. Also his hand writing is very hard to read. Hard to follow his notes on the board.
Amazing teacher, fun to just show up to his class, a little tough on grading the essays(4 of them)but only because he really knows his history. Just talks the entire class and you take notes, very interesting none-the-less. He cares for you if you let him. If you have to take history I recommend doing it with him.
his lectures are pointless, read the text book to pass. 2 essays due and grades tough but as long as you are a somewhat good writer he'll give you a decent grade on them. tests are difficult good luck
this class is pretty straight forward. 2 papers and a mid term and final are what the class is based on. No homework. He's nice. If you need him to look over your essay he gives great feedback. easy B have to work for an A.
Professor Billingsley is a very nice man. If you show you care he will go way out of his way to help you even if you don't ask for it. His assignment arent THAT easy but if you just put some time and effort into it then you'll get an A. Overall good guy and work isn't too bad
Really knowledgeable and interesting guy. The honors humanities class with him & Cavazzi is the best. He's a tough grader on essays, but really does care and want to help you. Put in the effort & go to his office hours - there is no reason you shouldn't get an A.
Witty, compassionate, and overall a great professor. He sometimes uses the powerpoints but he prefers talking, if youre not a detailed note taker its really helpful to refer back to his powerpoints he makes available. but DO take notes because the final is open note. 2 essays, 2 exams (midterm & final noncummulative) and 5/6 online quizzes.
Professor Billingsley is not only a great educator but a great person as well. You definitely have to work for your grade, but he's helpful Make sure to participate and listen. You'll learn a lot in his class. As long as you thoroughly explain in the discussion questions and format your paper correctly, (ask him how) you'll be okay.
For a respected proff he sure does use "um" a lot. Legit after every single word. He is very lecture heavy and unorganized. Nice thing, all quiz's are online, so that's nice. There are two papers that both require you to read two 300 paged books as well as our text book. Tough grader on papers. Wouldn't take again.
Billingsley's passionate approach to history helped inspire my choice of a major. More than willing to help students improve their grades on essays and gives excellent lectures, just be sure to read from the textbook and study if you want that A. Mid-term/Final (with in-class essays), over 5 online quizzes, and 2 outside essays. He's really good!
Prof Billingsley is really a caring teacher. I really messed up with my first test and essay and did ok on my quizzes but I studied really hard on the final exam and put in a lot of effort on my last essay and ended up pulling my grade up 10%. I was already stoked to see that but then he rounded my grade up to a B. Nicest guy ever!!!
Professor Billingsley is honestly one of the sweetest professors I've had. First, his history 17 class was enjoyable because he lectures with enthusiasm and gives you real history without trying to sugarcoat. He's also super helpful with essay feedback and doesn't hesitate to help anyone out with their essays. Just make sure to do the readings!!
Billingsley is super nice and easy to talk to. He is super specific in his feedback and wants you to do well in his classes. he lectures a lot but thats cause he really cares about what hes talking about. hes really invested in his classes and students which is a good thing to take advantage of in order to get an A. Lots of writing assignments.
Great professor who really knows his stuff. He is such a sweet prof. and makes lectures fun. Do well on quizzes(online) and do not procrastinate on the reading assignment essays(2- try on them). 1 midterm and final with 2 easy essays with them. If you put a bit of effort into the class and RESPECT him, you can get a B.
Billingsley really goes out of his way to offer any assistance needed to go along with his intriguing lectures. Class work consists of some light reading with a weekly short summary of the passages. The midterm and final includes both multiple-choice questions and an in-class essay. You also have all semester to complete your research project.
Bill is an amazing professor who cares about what he is doing. I love his class, and although he does talk a lot and is a little fast in his lectures, I find the online quizzes easy (there are 5-6), the papers, (two of them), are a bit of a handful, but if you see him and go over it with him, it'll help you get an A.
He is one of the most interesting teachers I have ever had. Class is all lectures, but he posts them online. His 2 essays are hard, but you can pass (he helps you if you see him). He posts terms for the midterm and final (study them). You also have about 5 online quizzes, they will help your grade. I would recomend him.
Professor Billingsley is passionate about teaching. His class is heavy lecture but he explains topics thoroughly. He truly cares about student success and offers help. Attendance is a must! He is a tough grader but if you are present and do your work, you will be fine!
He is really caring about his students, if you show interest in his class and actually show up. You don't have to show up to class, but he does go over notes all his classes. He makes jokes every now & then, class was relazing. You do have to study for his tests (he has study guides)
Professor Billingsley is a nice guy and cares about his students, but his notes are really hard to read. He is also a really tough grader on exams, but gives you the chance for him to proofread them before you turn it in. His tests are also very hard whether you study or not.
His lectures are all over the place and he incorporates personal anecdotes at every opportunity. Its not a hard class but its a lot of material that he doesnt explain it well, youre better off just reading the book. A huge negative for me was his constant bias and incorporation of his political beliefs, if yours dont align with his good luck!
Nice guy. Had us read two books and write essays for them. Tough grader on his tests too. Lectures can be boring. Overall he's fine.
Lectures doesn't stay on point; has a negative opinion about Christians and the bible. If you're a Christian you cannot share your point of view. He states that there will be a lot of points given at the end of the semester, thats doesnt happen. I am an honors student and handed in all work. Quizzes and exams: Some questions are not clear.
Great professor! Two papers. On exams there are essays, but he gives you the prompt ahead of time to memorize your answer. There are quizzes too. He gives you the multiple choice for the quizzes, so its easy to get a high grade if you study. Visit his office hours, and read the books for the paper. He will proof read your paper! Nice and caring too
Honestly, I had Professor Billingsley for history 17 an online class. Overall this class is heavy. For every four chapters you have to write a summary essay. There is one essay about a book. Test and quizzes are very average just study. Hes a very strict grader on assignments, so make sure in advance to get feedback for your assignments. NO book.
Dr. Billingsley knows his material and the class was very informative. As with anything, the more dedication and attention you give to anything the better the outcome. The course is comprehensive and he is very caring. If you do your work and submit on time you would receive at least a B. Dr. Billingsley also emails back very quickly.
Loved taking his and Professor Cavazzi's Honors Post Modern Humanities course. It was extremely challenging for me, but I'm glad I stuck with it. Seriously, take advantage of their office hours and send your papers to them. The topics are very abstract but they are so interesting and I've learned so much.
Professor Billingsley is very detailed in his syllabus of what is expected in this course. He is also available outside of class to answer questions you may have about exams and assignments. I really enjoyed him as a professor and I learned a lot in his class.
Professor Billingsley is a great professor. I took him with Professor Deidre Cavazzi and Prof Billingsley is a kind hearted person. He is very knowledgable on history and has some very interesting perspectives on things. It does require some work to get a good grade on papers but if you apply his feedback into future ones you'll do great!
I took Dr. Billingsley for History 17 after taking his History course. I really appreciate the time that he took to answer each and every one of my questions. The material that he provides by way of videos, music, availability via Zoom is impressive. If you invest the time in the course you will do very well and enjoy the course as well.
You will have to work for your grade but he is a great teacher
He is fairly rude to Prof. Cavazzi in lectures. He will make you feel beneath him. Do not like to be called out when you are talking to him no matter how kind you are about it. It is his way or the high way. Take this class if you want to always be stressing over your grade. Too many essays due in short time one after another
I have absolutely loved taking Professor Billingsley's HIST 17 course!! He made learning history a lot of fun, and he is so passionate and engaged! His lectures are everything!!! I can honestly say I read maybe 1 chapter of the free textbook. READ THE LECTURES/PPTs!!! His course is a MUST!!! He has office hours, too!
You will definitely need to read the textbook and lectures for the weekly discussion boards and three writing assignments. He expects you to write formally with structure and paragraph format. He seems disorganized. He gives well thought out feedback on every assignment. He cares deeply for history and wants you to succeed as a student.
Loved taking this class with him and Prof. Cavazzi. Soo knowledgeable and really wants students to thrive. He will press you for questions during sessions but it will help grow your critical thinking abilities. Seems intimidating at first but I learned a lot from him! Class itself is heavy with materials so be prepared to put in the work to succeed
I took this course with Professor Cavazzi and Billingsley. They are such a fantastic duo! Both professors genuinely care about their students and want the best for them. Professor Billingsley is very caring and gives excellent feedback on the assignments and essays! The topics are fun and interesting as well! Definitely take this class!
He is a great professor but a harsh grader regarding discussion posts. It needs a lot of evidence and detail to get a total score. Reading the textbook and lectures is a must to complete these discussions but overall getting an A is doable.
Most professors use discussion boards as supplemental work while he uses them as the main assignments for the class and as such, grades them very harshly. He also deducted points on my 4-page essay for not having a clever enough title when he never even said a title was necessary, and I threw one in there to try to be fun. Grades harshly for gen ed
Very nit picky on the work that was given. If you got one thing wrong in discussion boards, he would deduct lots of points. Best way to describe him would be that he is very old school when it comes to the grade book. He is extremely nice and willing to give feedback.
The main way to do well is to make sure you read his lectures. At first I was confused about the lectures because they were not recorded videos or spoken. Lectures can be confusing at times also. I would say that the class isn't the most organized, but it is doable if you are diligent about reading and completing the discussions.
He is very short and to the point in his emails. He grades harshly like it's an English class, and god forbid he thinks you used AI. He dropped me an entire letter grade because he failed one of my essays because of a 15% AI score. Overall, it was not a super hard class, but I would avoid him if you could.
I had taken classes with Professor Billingsley before. I knew he was a liberal but the in person course content is much worse. I took classes online and it was easier. It has been two weeks and I knew I could not complete the course. It is as if he is trying to indoctrinate students to his beliefs.
I have never had a worse professor. So passive aggressive when you do not write exactly how he would write. Also grades like it's an English class. Unless you are super into history and are okay being treated like you are beneath him, do not take this class. The work is pretty easy though once you get how he grades.
Professor Billingsley's HIS17 course is challenging but rewarding. He grades harshly, so staying on top of readings, lectures, and assignments is key. Luckily, unstuck ai and the free textbook can help make study prep a breeze.
If you ask for help, he goes above and beyond to ensure your success in his class. Billingsley made a tremendous effort to help me complete my research for this course. He also guided me through presenting at two research conferences! If you ask him for help, he is always willing to assist you to the best of his ability. He's a man who truly cares.
Professor Billingsley's online history 17 class was pretty easy, there's one discussion post every week with occasional quizzes. He's a picky grader so as long as you write a detailed summary of everything he wrote in his 10-20pg lecture then you'll be fine. The one issue I have is that he is very liberal & tries to push his views on students.
This was a simple and non-stressful online class. Though I didn't meet the professor in person, their teaching was clear, and the course was well-structured. Overall, a positive experience. agree he is a picky grader and wants you to do a lot compared to others professors. he fully reads your work and give you like a three paragraph response.
Teacher was super unfair, after emailing him about my struggles he told me he graded my assignments badly cause I didn't turn in a few missing assignments previously . So I guess if u miss a few assignments u might fail his class cause he grades based off of your previous work.
Great teacher with an extremely interesting class!!!! Definitely want to take again
I definitely recommend taking Prof Billingsley class. His homework are discussions and replying to peers which is not difficult to do since he gives you a week to get it done and as long as you are on track, reading the textbook and his lectures you'll be fine. Overall i would definitely take his class again as he shows he cares about his students!
