Nice guy but hard
This is a difficult teacher, but willing to help if you ask.
Great teacher.
I completely messed up my schedule one semester to take this professor -- and I'd do it again. What a great teacher!!!
He's a great teacher! Class is usually pretty interesting (he makes jokes to keep your attention), and tests aren't too difficult. However, he does have a tendency to go into great detail about things that we dont know to know...
Not bad, very fun and engaging. Easy A or B
The cutest man you'll ever meet... Nice guy and willing to help however, lacks on fun lectures. But here's a hint... never take this class at 8am. You will never go and therefore, your grade will go way down. The class is hard enough as it is, take it later in the day.
He is very nice but his tests are very very very odd. If u want to meet a nice guy take his class but do not expect an A.
He seemed very bitter towards the students, but the class was easy. I didn't even buy a book. He presented subject matter with great detail and did not attack creationist.
Good professor. He gets angry at times over unnecessary things. He does explain things well though. There is no need to buy the text book. I don't even know what it looks like and I've got an A in the class. Study 30 minutes the night before the exam and you should do fine.
Boring... but overall an easy grade. Go to class and take good notes... the book wont help and is not needed. 8AM will not work. Lecture attendance is a necessity.
Class was pretty easy. The material is pretty cut and dry. The tests can be through you for a loop, he makes you think about the material which is really good. You don't need the book if you go to class and get the notes. He's even willing to set aside study sessions. Great Prof.
Very boring class. His tests were extremely tricky except for the final which was super easy.
Mr. Bill's lectures were somewhat interesting, but beware of the tests. Most questions are very tricky in their wording. He makes fun of himself during lecture which is fine for the first day but then it got overrated. His style was ok, but had problems with the mic in our class. His instructions before EVERY test is aggravating. OK class, i guess.
Great teacher, made class interesting. Don't ever skip, your grade will show how much you did. Enjoyed him greatly. Would take his class again.
Mr. Bill can sometimes be annoying. His jokes are not funny, although he thinks they are. The class is relatively easy, so I can't complain.
his tests suck
TEST ARE AWFUL!
He is not helpfull at all he says that he will take time to help you but that is a not true! thinks that he invented Biology!!!!! TESTS SUCK
not approachable. acts like he cares about students but doesn't one bit! tests are very tricky. I do NOT recommend this professor.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! Take it from Krupa! This Guy Sucks! His tests are toooooooo hard!
i do NOT reccomend this guy. he is the most liberal dumb ass ive ever seen in my life. he actually called me out on a 200+ lecture class for blowing a bubble. he's not really that hard, although the test are tricky, but listening to him talk about his little miata and how hawaii is the greatest state in the world makes me sick.
I did not think that this class was so bad. I did pretty poorly on the first exam (failed it, I think) and still got a B with just a little extra effort. I am not a BIO major, and it didn't seem so hard.
i thought this class was extremely easy as long as you go to class every single day. my friend had krupa and i once sat in on his class and i hated it! burke has all of the lecture laid out on slides that he posts online. he was also extremely helpful with the papers and even let me email mine because i forgot to bring it to class.
This is a really easy class as long as you go every time. Try not to take at 8am. I took 102 at 11am last semester and it was much easier. No book needed, test are all from notes and examples in class.
If you go to class and pay attention...you should have nothing to worry about
Not a bad class....the tests are hard but if you do the study guide and go to the study group it shouldn't be too bad....GO TO CLASS EVERY DAY!! even though its not mandatory its worth going to !!
An ok, professor. Test mainly based on class notes. Sometimes he assigns readings in the text, that will be on the test. Tests are tricky. All tests are multiple choice. A cumulative final. (well part of it is.) And there are 3 short & EASY writing assignments that are due usually on test day.
His notes are really easy to follow and the tests are pretty easy.
Pretty easy tests if you go to class and take notes. He has review sessions that are also helpful. Good prof.
terribly boring teacher. he's definitely a northerner who dosn't appreciate the south. he is also obsessed with hawaii (where he lived a few years) and has a test dedicated to it. DONT TAKE IT. you just learn about the environment and although it is important, an entire class is not necessiary.
Great teacher...class material is meaningful if you care about the environment. Burke is passionate about the material. This class could not be any easier, all you have to do is SHOW UP! tests questions are directly from notes, sometimes word for word. Easy A for your natural science credit.
Terrible teacher and offers little no help when asked. Class was boring, and he often had a hard time discribing topics in class. If able, take another prof.!!
I warn you to not take his class. I studied a lot for his tests, went to class everyday and managed to not do so well on the tests. They are awful and nothing like his lecture. He is also a jerk, if you ever try to approach him for help! SO DON'T TAKE HIM!!!
Great class and teacher. Easy as long as you get the in class notes. Tests come from review sheet and extremely easy (all multiple choice.) Definitely take him for this class if you can.
Very good and easy to understand.
The class is exetremely BORING! He's kind of funny in a wierd way. Hes grading point system is INTENSE. Every point truly matters. His test only have like 30 questions its easy to fail them. You need to come to class, study and get acquainted with himin order to get an A. Its not easy. but hes pretty cool.
I had to drop this class.. He made me feel about an inch tall when I went to him for help. The tests were extremely hard even after studying a lot and class was very boring..
I had to drop his course. He acts like he is better than everyone. His tests were very hard to understand even though I attended every class and studied a lot! And going to him for help won't do any good, he made me feel like an idiot.
Very easy course. Show up and take notes. Actually listen to what he says, don't just write down the powerpoints.
Mr. Bill is my favorite professor at UK by far! You must come to each and every class to do well. He uses powerpoints. There are four exams and several small written assignments. He is exceptionally clear and easy to understand; he realized that we weren't Science majors and was helpful. He was very willing to negotiate test answers.
Dr. Burke is GREAT!He's hilarious in class. The tests are all multiple choice & directly from the notes,so if you study a fair amount, you'll get a good grade. He also gives extra credit opportunities through the semester. You have to go to class though, because all his lectures come directly from the power points.Overall, he's an amazing professor!
At the beginning of the semester I really liked Dr. Burke then towards the end of the semester when I emailed him a few questions about a past exam he was extremely rude and condescending towards me.
I absolutely did not like Burke, his test were very hard and he says he will help you out and I emailed him and he was very rude about everything.
Dr. Burke was a very very good teacher. He was very intelligent and knew what he was talking about. His lectures were interesting and not the type you would fall asleep to. however, his test are very very hard. I failed about everyone but did good on the homeworks (which are simple) and extra credits and came out with a B.
Angry little red faced man. Calls himself Mr.Bill, which is just infuriating. Tries to be "tricky" on all tests, whether accurately measuring knowledge of the material or not. Also, taught ecology and drove a hummer, something's not right there. Completely useless and irrelevant writing assignments. Horrible prof.
EASY class. I never opened the book. Tests are cake and Mr. Bill offers a ton of extra credit if you go to class. Very good about giving examples and addressing all questions, and very reasonable about deadlines. I attended about 75% of classes and got an easy A, and I have zero background in biology. The most open-minded bio prof. you will find.
This class was extremely easy as long as you go to class. I attended class almost every day but took awful notes and still ended up with an A in the class. As long as you pay even a little bit of attention and do all his assignments, the class should be no problem.
Awesome professor! Really cares about his students and truly wants you to come out of the class with a good understanding of the content. He does not test on specific numbers or things that do not matter because he wants you to come out with the general idea of what he's trying to teach you. Very understanding and fair! :)
Mr. Bill goes out of his way to make sure that the course he is teaching is fully understood by all of his students. He is more than willing to help outside of class times and emails timely and offers regular review sessions before tests. He does not worry about very specific information and wants his students to do their very best.
Awesome guy and does his best to keep the class entertained. Posts study guides for exams and other helpful resources.
Honestly, Bill Burke made me want to switch my major to BIO because his class was so interesting and fun. If I weren't already so far into Elementary Education, I would have switched. He's extremely helpful and knowledgable and you can tell that he has a passion for teaching college students. I suggest everyone has him as a professor!
Mr. Bill was really nice and his tests were pretty straight forward. Take notes during lecture because his exams are straight from the powerpoints. If you do the study guide and know examples then you'll do fine!
Super sweet guy, but is kind of boring to listen to. I hate science/bio so that probably didn't help. But his tests are pretty clear, but theres always some questions that are really confusing. I studied for exams and did all of the work and I got a high B. Attendance isn't mandatory.
Mr. Bill thinks he's funnier than he actually is, but class is definitely entertaining at times. I needed this for my UK core and it was easy enough. I did absolutely no studying or anything and got a C, so it's fairly easy. This class was a good way to fulfill the science core if you still need it.
Really nice guy, pretty funny. The class is boring and attendance is not mandatory. He gives really only a few assignments which are not very difficult whatsoever, however his tests generally are. If you go to class and study you will do fine though. It will be an easy A if you attend.
Bill's class is very easy. Attendance is not mandatory. He has this tool that records him during lecture so he puts the video of himself and the powerpoint he teaches from on Blackboard, so really you'd be fine with never coming to class as long as you watch the lecture online. Assignments are minimal & very easy to accomplish.
Definitely take him! The class is super easy as long as you review his study guides and notes before tests. He's very straight forward. Classes can be boring but attendance is not mandatory and he can always provide a good laugh here and there. Great guy!
A great teacher!
A good professor, enjoys his subject, and is helpful.
Not a mandatory class, but i went because i enjoyed the class.
He's hilarious, super nice, and everything is online. Go to class if you want to but if you don't not a big deal, just turn in your work on time.
Mr. Bill was an awesome professor. Class was somewhat interesting but super easy. He posts his lectures to blackboard but has in class pop quizzes (for extra credit) to check for attendance and they can help your grade so I do suggest going to class. But he doesn't check attendance everyday. He's like a cool papaw in my opinion. No textbook
He was awesome, easy A... you'll have to put forth the effort to study for exams and go to class for the extra credit. But its not terrible and he's hilarious, likes to make crude jokes sometimes.
He reminds me of Santa Clause because of his looks. He is an awesome professor that makes so many side comments that are hilarious. Study for the exams and pass. His tests questions are somewhat confusing because he words them weird.
Wording is kinda weird, but he is really understanding and helpful if you seek him out. Really nice too.
Class captures save lives! If you miss a lecture you can watch it from home, but he does give random half point quizzes that add up in the end. He is a great professor and really seems to relate to students in the fact that he doesn't make you buy an overly expensive , useless book
Mr. Bill is one of the best profs ive had since being at UK. He is so lighthearted and easy going.
Pretty funny guy, records all of his lectures so they're online if you miss a class. Nice teacher, tests are tough, unless you take notes and study!
Mr. Bill is one of my favorite professors. I got an A easily. There is no homework aside from occasional written assignments that are fairly easy. His exams are easy but he includes material that he may have only briefly said during a lecture so it is best to attend even when attendance isn't mandatory. He's also comical.
Amazing Professor. You never need to come to class because the lectures are online but I went anyway because he is so funny and makes Biology so entertaining. Am passing the class with an easy A as of right now.
Burke is a super nice guy who doesn't want you to fail, he gives you every chance possible to succeed in his class. His lectures are funny and he is very entertaining. His tests are easy and he assigns extra credit quizzes so go to class!
The easiest class I had all semester. BIO103 was easier than my high school BIO. Burke's super entertaining and his lectures are good. He doesn't want to see you fail, if you receive anything less than an A in this class you aren't trying at all. He gives you extra credit opportunities and the ability to redo things. Exams are easy, use studyguide!
HE IS AWESOME! His class is entertaining and easy as long as you go and take notes! Study for tests because they can be confusing.
There are only about three quizzes worth like .5 points. There are about three tests a semester. He's friendly. Usually large lectures.
Mr. Bill tries to make biology fun by telling jokes but most of the time the students are laughing at him, not with him. It was a very easy A for me. As long as you listen to the lecture (online or in class) and take notes you will be fine. However he does do random pop quizzes that count as extra credit in class and those can help your grade.
Mr. Bill is friendly and attendance is not mandatory but I do suggest watching his lectures online if you are unable to attend class. The final was extremely easy and so were most of his exams. Very easy class and the pop quizzes can totally boost you that 1% from a C to a B or to an A. Take advantage of those.
Mr. Burke is an amazing professor. His assignments are very easy to do and if you study for the test they're easy as well. He likes to joke around a lot and is pretty funny for the most part, he responds back quickly, and is a very fair grader.
Bill is a great professor! Attendance isn't mandatory because he puts his lectures online, but gives quizzes for extra point sometimes! He lets you do test corrections and his notes are pretty good. he gives study guides and things to know for test. He makes getting a good grade easy!
Very funny guy, sang "it's all about that base, bout that base, no sugar" when explaining concept. He's clear in his material, has a lot of experience, and does a great job of getting across the importance of scientific thinking in general not just his specific area. Would definitely recommend.
Bill Burke is definitely the best professor i've ever had. He makes you want to go to lecture with his random bits of humor. He isn't afraid to give his opinion which makes the class interesting. Pretty easy class as long as you take notes and do the few things of homework, its an easy A.
The only grades he takes are tests and written reports. Lecture is not mandatory, and sometimes not necessary. Very laid back and likes to crack jokes. All test material is based on note taking. Gives a fair amount of extra credit. I'm not one to skip class, but if you skip lecture here and there, you won't miss much.
Mr. Burke is that man! Easy class, pay attention and take some notes and you will pass easy. Echo 360 (camera that films lecture) allows you to miss class if necessary, but you will miss quizzes. Overall he is super easy going and gives a great lecture.
I loved Bill. He's the reason I ended up choosing Bio as my minor. He makes the class interesting and is very straight forward. Exams are fairly easy if you take good notes and pay attention. The written reports are straight forward and easy points. He also gives a good amount of extra credit class so go to class!
The most boring class of the semester. He is a nice person but my god is his class boring. His grading is so random and his exams are so random to study for. It's an honest crap shoot going into his exams. Pick a different Professor! I never had to work so hard for a menial 3 credit core class. not worth your sanity!
I absolutely loved this class. Mr. Bill is very funny and tells tons of side jokes to make it interesting. If you take notes in class and study, you will get a good grade. I did terrible on my first exam and still got an A in the class. Attending class isn't mandatory but he sometimes gives extra credit to those who do come.
super easy class. dont have to go unless you need a little extra credit. gives you study guides that tell exactly whats on the exam. take notes and youll pass easily
Mr. Burke is a funny professor that tries to make biology interesting and fun to learn. There is no textbook and Echo360 records all lectures. Mr. Burke gives extra credit quizzes in class that can help your grade. He emails you back timely and gives you study guides for all exams.
Mr. Bill was a nice professor. Assignments and tests are not difficult. Attendance isn't mandatory since you can watch the Echo360 videos. As long as you watch the videos and study a little you should be okay. There were also 10 pop quizzes throughout the semester that counted as extra credit if you were in class. I made 101% in this class
To be completely honest, I took BIO 103 for my UK Core class. It was recommended by many of friends that said it was" easy." It is not with Burke. Burke is pretty hard considering it is all test heavy. If you try to get help or ask him questions, he never responds or is very snippy. Burke is the worst professor I've had in a while. Don't take him.
Personally I hate biology but Bill made the class very straight forward. He gives lots of extra credit which helped my grade a ton. Would take again.
Mr. Bill cares a lot about what he is teaching. He makes the attendance-optional lectures (although I recommend going for an easy A) very enjoyable and engaging. You learn what you need to know, what is relevant to your future as a non-biology major, and nothing else.
I loved this class! Def recommend for easy science core. No textbook and not a lot of hw.
If you want an A in the class I suggest to go to class. I had a C at midterm and finished with an A because of all the grade-boosting assignments he offers at the end of the year. I would forsure take him again.
Go to class for the extra credit quizzes, and sometimes you can go to his office hours just to get points back from exams if you try and argue what you believe was correct. He so sweet and funny too!!
He makes material easy to understand and is lecture heavy. Go to class and study for a an hour and you are guaranteed an A. Just be sure to sit towards the front and don't fall asleep!
Burke was a great BIO103 professor! The written assignments/end of the semester project were decent- If you follow the instructions they were pretty easy assignments. He also did Echo360 for those who couldn't make it to lecture. The difference between lecture & Echo360 was in lecture he would give extra credit quizzes that you could turn in.
Mr. Bill is an easy professor. The grading criteria is clearly explained and there are several different ways to earn back points throughout the semester. Would take for a core class if you want an easy A. Just go to class and know the material on the study guides- that is exactly what's on the test. Don't study anything more.
Great professor. Really nice. Offers extra credit. Getting an A is VERY doable.
He makes lecture fun and interesting, however tests are a little difficult because he requires you to apply concepts
Be prepared to go to class everyday. Although attendance isn't mandatory, you need to show up for quizzes and lecture.
He's an amazing professor. He's passionate about what he teaches and is a very fair grader. The exams are straightforward and come right from the notes.
Bill Burke is a legend! He is a great professor and this class is not hard. Just show up, take notes, do the simple written reports, study for tests, and DO the research project! You'll do fine and this is a very good and easy class.
He never gives good explanations. He only grades you on your exams and your research project. There is no book to act as a guideline and his exams are tested only on the material he goes over during lecture. I feel like for as long as he's been teaching, he should develop new techniques for learning so his students are interested in his material.
I really enjoyed him and his class at the start of the semester but as the semester came closer to the end he became rude and not helpful toward students. I approached him for help and he turned me away. His grading is ridiculous and only based on 3 exams, a project, and other tiny assignments. So, do poorly on one and you're screwed.
This class includes 3 exams plus the final (straight from class notes and he gives you study guides and past exams), a few really easy written assignments, a research project that you'll pass as long as you do it, and some pop quizzes that are graded on completion (not accuracy). As long as you do your work and study for the exams, you'll get an A!
Great man, basically spoon feeds you all the information, gives study guides, super clear on grading, and always sends reminder emails when things are due. As long as you show up to class, the pop quizzes are for completion. Hilarious and actually keeps bio interesting
Love Bill Burke's bio class. He is such a funny dude and really gets into his powerpoint slides. He gives good instructions and clear content. If you follow his guides and listen to his instructions you will pass the class
He definitely cares about biology and tries to make class not just listening to him lecture. It's a very easy A if you just follow directions, take notes, do the study guides, and look at the example questions for each exam. A lot are either exactly on the test or very similar.
Mr. Bill is a very nice guy who cares about what he's teaching. His class was extremely easy with little effort required as long as you followed his specific directions and at least somewhat payed attention and studied for his exams.
Bill Burke is amazing!!! I loved this class so much. Make sure you show up, take notes, study the resources he gives you for the exams and DO THE RESEARCH PROJECT!!!! You will get an A if you do these things.
do not take this class. more time consuming than major classes.
Professor Burke is a great teacher! He is very clear in his lectures and is a very funny guy. There is only three multiple choice tests, a couple papers, and the final. He has study guides for the tests, gives out practice questions, and gives us the opportunity to earn back points on tests. If you show up and pay attention, you should do fine!
He does lectures and at the end he does quizzes that you can only get credit for if you are in class. If you dont care about quizzes he records his class on echo so its always super east to go back and listen /watch the course. He is super easy and goes in depth about each topic so you understand what to do in actual life.
This was a very easy class for me, and it's relatively easy to get an A. Aside from the 4 exams, there are 3 foolproof projects and in class attendance quizzes. You can miss up to 5 of the quizzes, which are not graded on correctness, and still get credit. Just pay attention or watch echo! He is hilarious and explains concepts well.
I respected professor Burke until the last couple days of class. The research paper he assigns is completely bs. He would give you a 0/60 if you didn't get the first part of the paper right and didn't bother to read anything else. Lost all respect for him after this.
Professor Burke really doesn't last an entire semester. You'll love him at first, then you'll start to hate him after mid semester. He gives you a research paper that isn't presented clearly and if you do bad on it your grade with suffer. It's equal to the final exam and trust me it's a load of BS. If you have to I wouldn't waste your time!
One of the most time consuming classes I've ever done! He doesn't last an entire semester giving everyone a scare at the end of the semester by giving us 0/60 but he will eventually change it by the last day of the semester. Pointless class to take and barely any chance to redeem points if you've failed an exam.
He is very clear when teaching and his exams reflect the material taught in class. He did 1pt. quizzes randomly to check attendance, but it helped check how well you understood the material.
He is a good professor, but you have to go to class because of his quizzes. He does not tell you when they are and if you miss them then you miss them. He is a great dude and an easy grader. Easy class to pass, honestly.
The sweetest man you will ever meet. He is so caring and down to earth. He is very passionate about this class and biology and general. He loves to tell stories which is nice because you aren't learning the whole lecture. The class itself is super easy. Go to class, take notes, and use practice questions. They are just like the exam.
