new 1 4 Billy! He IS what every teacher should B!the lectures are perfect! His assignments require you to use your head for something besides a hat!if you don't have free time for papers don't take it.He's a Brilliant man
The final is a b, but the class is so much fun. Jahnel is the funniest professor ever, he makes history so much fun. I can't wait to take hst 102 with him. I would definitely recommend taking this class.
Awesome Teacher!!! Really funny!!!
GREAT TEACHER. I dont like history but Jahnel made it fun. He wears a bowtie to class and is very funny. I am taking him again for 102. there is a lot of note taking but worth it.
This guy is hilarious, especially when he swears, he always has up beat attitude. I recommend him to all of my friends,
Jahnel is an awesome teahcer with his Bow Tie and everything. He makes learning fun all over again.
hilarious! makes learning fun! lots of not-taking and reading, huge paper!! but worth it because you really LEARN!!
He is adorable! His approach to teaching is a breath of fresh air and I normally have no interest in History, but he makes history exciting and interesting! There is also something *hot* about the bow tie! LoL
What a nice person, I am gald he thinks Bush is an idiot as a president and as govenor.
He class is thoroughly enjoyable. If you don't mind a little writing than I highly recommend him. His class is fun and intersting.
Great teacher, really knows his stuff, however you have to write a 20 page paper, not too bad because it is broken up, but just for your information! Class is exciting and never boring, really fun guy! Gives you his home number for help anytime! GO JAHNEL!
Hooray for bow ties. Jahnel is the most helpful and funny prof. i have ever had. Don't fret over the 20 page paper at the end of the class he totally helps you out. Just start it early and the problem is not one.
his is super neat!!!
I don't get it. How is Jahnel funny? By saying the "f" word at least 5 times a lecture? Or by taking a month to return your test? What does Sponge Bob have to do with any of his tests? Or his nephew that he talks non-stop about? You guys can adore him all you want, I didn't learn any history from his class.
Jahnel is the ONLY history that made the subject fun for me. If he comes off as crazy, it's only because he is. =) Give love to the bow tie.
He rocks he takes boring history and makes it fun. don't take anyone else for 101 or 102.
Jahnel is very passionate about his subject/history, and his students. He enjoys being a part of the students' academic life and he excells at his profession. He DOES cuss quite a bit in his lectures, but I think he does it just to see if ppl are paying attention. He is awesome. Bow Ties Forever!!!!!!!!!!
The best History teacher I have ever had! I never thought a class on Early American History could be so much fun! However, DO YOUR HOMEWORK! There is quite a bit of writing to do. Great class, great teacher- two thumbs up!
ROCKS THE BOW-TIE LIKE NO OTHER! MAKES HISTORY ENTERTAINING AND HELPS YOU OUT IF U NEED IT.. TAKE THE CLASS.. U WONT REGRET IT BECAUSE THE ITS ONE OF THOSE CLASSES WHERE YOU WOULD ACTUALLY LOOK FORWARD TO GOING TO CLASS.
This is not the teacher to take for an "easy A" but you will have a blast! He teaches history with the enthusiasm it deserves and it helps you remember whats most important, which makes the tests simple. A word of advice: do NOT save reading and portfolio to the last minute; do it little by little. The work required will then be cake.
Absolutely fantastic teacher. Extremely dedicated to his students and goes above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to education. I have no problem waiting a bit longer for tests as he does overload on classes EVERY semester. He tries to take every student he possibly can...and then some. GO BOW-TIE GUY!
Awsome teacher. Keep class both intresting and fun. Test suck but overall kick ass teacher. If you pay attention in his class its an easy B.
loved the bow tie. dont take both classes unless you want to die a horrible death. Funny, makes class interesting. not as boring as you would think it would be, especially at first look. Watch out for that quiz!
he made the class fun,and he is a character but he went through the lessons very quickly. he is unclear about what is going to be on the tests. he has a lot of students so he had trouble getting back the tests.
if you hate bow ties this is not the class for you and jahnel I know you are reading this. do not take both classes at the same time, even he says so. A lot of work for an "A" but i had the more fun in this hirtory class than any other. if you want to have fun ask him what a diaphragm is. Remember Bill it is not a trampoline. use his number wisely
I took Jahnel's history 101 my first semester at Palomar and am now a history major..so there you go.
he is cool for school
I enjoyed his class and learned a lot. He's definitely a good professor. Doesn't always have his facts straight where the Catholic Church is concerned, but then few people do. I would recommend him.
Professor Jahnel is awesome. I hate history but I loved his class. Even though he is disorganized with passing back tests he presents all the information clearly in a straightforward manner. I thought he was amusing and the best history teacher ever.
Greatest class ever. You have to take this class so why not take a great professor. I always recommend him to anyone I talk to. And if you dress like him you get extra points ;)
funny and entertaining
Prof. Jahnel is easily the most interesting History instructor at Palomar College. I took both of his American History classes and I found them engaging and (dare I say this?) FUN. (NOTE TO SLACKERS: This class is NOT for you-- the Conclave final in 102 will burn your brain out if you're not ready for it!)
quite possibly the best teacher out there. professor Jahnell not an average teacher. he is in fact a HUGE geek and is the first one to admit it. but his class is hard but if you keep up on your work, the class isn't too hard. just don't let your cell-phone
Very intresting. Big paper at the end. But intresting and funny.
i LOVED his class. he makes everything so fun!
Jahnel is all around a hell of a guy. An entertaining lecturer who makes the topic COOL; let's face it, History(unless you are a major) is pretty boring fare for most people. He is also extremely easy to work with, often going above and beyond the usual call of duty to help his student succeed. Plus the sexy bow-ties...Bravo, Professor Jahnel!
Jahnel is awesome! Just let it be known that after only his first year teaching, he recieved teacher of the year award when some teachers deserving of this award have waited years before someone recognized their talents. He truly loves his job, his students, and history. There is NO ONE else that I would recomend you take for either history class... or for any humanities class for that matter. I would take US history JUST to take Jahnell! Even if you don't like it... you will when he get's done with u!
jahnel makes history fun! I hated history untill I took his class. He is animated, enthusiastic and halarious. love ya jahnel.
Self appointed king of the geeks! An all around great guy though. Very funny and he cares about the subject Which makes any class endlessly interesting.
He is a great teacher nothing makes my day better then sitting in his class. Everything he talks about is funny his test are hella hard and i have lost alot of sleep over the papers he gives but he is fun to watch.
GREAT TEACHER!!!I loved his class, very enthusiastic and enjoys teaching his subjects. Loves his students, eager to help.Makes boring material interesting and fun to learn.Test are all essay, but bark is bigger than bite.Just take note and read the text, you'll get an A.Big 20 page paper at the end of both classes, but he makes them do-able.BowTies!
This teacher is AMAZING! I have never gottena good grade in history, but I just aced our last test! He's very clear and makes the subject interesting.....the bow tie is just soo sexy! lol
Don't get too worried about doing his Conclave. He never reads them, nor grades them, nor gives them back to you. Just turn in a bundle of papers that look like a research paper, put your name on it, give the 3 minute speech at the last day of class and you'll do just fine.
Flamboyant, engaging and a bowtie. For all the fun his lecture is, to those who much are given much is expected. Tests are essay intensive, lecture/book notes to be turned in throughout course. If you can deal with actually having to work in a lower level course then taking one of Jahnel's classes will be enjoyable.
The guy is hillarious! I actually wanted to come to class every day just because it was like entertainment. He wears a bow tie everyday. It's his thing.
talks about stupid stuff. then hard exams about stuff he talked to fast to write down. And a 20 page report wtf
Jahnel is a great teacher. He is not the easiest, but if you pay attention in class (take notes) and spend time studying you will pass.I failed this same class with another teacher, and with Jahnel have been getting A's on tests. Just take the time to study, he makes learning history interesting!
He is my favorite teachers this semester.Unlike a few prof. at Palomar, this guy actually RESPECTS his students, which really means a lot.Be sure to keep up on book notes, and give him a chance cause he is a great!!! teacher
Two thums way up! This guy , while teaching in a professional manner, could have a job on SNL. Very effective teaching stlyle that makes History stick. I am now considering a History major. Respectful of students, fair, and he knows history, down to the nitty gritty details. By far the best teacher that I have ever had. Take the class while you can
This guy could easily be teaching at any university of his choice (he is that good). He really enjoys teaching & knows his stuff. classes are well orchestrated & very worth while. His test are tough as well as his study assignments. Best teacher at Palomar in history of school. Very animated, wears a bow tie. More energy than the energizer bunny.
Seems tough and maybe a little discouraging at first but its really not all that bad..as a matter of fact i really enjoyed this class and got A's on all my tests (: if u pretty much just concentrate on memorizing ur class notes youll do fine. hes entertaing/makes class fun! wouldnt choose any other teacher! b4jahnel i hated history now i dont...
We Know him as the bow tie. Pretty loud in the morning. He really wakes you up. Do the notes out side of class or you will parish. The 20 page paper is not that hard. Best hist teacher I have ever had. If U R looking for an easy class dont take him.
Jehnel will throw stuff at you. I recomend him.
class was harder than expected. was hard to stay focused...went on tangents every few minutes. jokes were not funny at all. bad experience
I did not appreciate him using cuss words throughout his lectures. It made me very uncomfortable every time he said a cuss word, as those words aren't what you would think to hear from a professional professor like he is supposed to be.
i had him this year, and he was my favorite teacher and i am taking him next semester i liked him so much. he actually made it alright to wake up in the morning and go to class. i already found history somewhat interesting but he just made it downright fun and interesting to be in class.
If you have PTSD (Post-Test Stress Disorder) like me, do not take Jahnel. Granted he truly reads everything you write, which is great for a professor, that means you don't know your test grade for weeks. Other than that, no complaints about the class. He makes history fun and he lets you make fun of him.
This is a great class, never really cared for history untill he tought it. Great for anyone, just take good notes and you should be fine, takes a while to get papers back but he is a great teacher and will actually get you into history, if that is possible.
I absolutley love this teacher!!!! He makes History very interesting and I loved attending his classes so much that I am taking him for history 102. Before I was dreading the class, but now I am looking forward to the next semmester with him. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON THE OUTLINE OR 20 PAGE PAPER!!!
THIS GUY KICKS SERIOUS ASS! TAKE THIS FROM A STRAIGHT PARTIER, I HATE SCHOOL, BUT HE MADE HISTORY SO COOL, IT WAS LIKE WATCHING A HILLARIOUS T.V. SHOW EVERY MORNING. I LEARNED SO MUCH REAL HISTORY. NOT THAT FILTERED CRAP. HE IS DAMN FUNNY AND CUSSES AND EVERYTHING! TAKE THIS BOW TIE'S KILLER CLASS OR YOU WILL BE MISSING THE DANK SIDE OF HISTORY!
Entertaining, Very helpful, Enjoys teaching.
too interested in being students friends and funny not just the teacher.

Professor Jahnel has an undenyable passion for History and his students. He aids and assists whenever possible, always informing students of his office hours and allowing students to cantact him at anytime for help. Good on ya, mate.
This professor is inspiring, helpful and caring. He is one of the best teachers I've had in college. He holds students attention of the subject with his interesting and clear explanations. He is also very funny. Being in his class is like learning from a stand-up comic!! A+
Awsome guy, very fun and loud. is there to help with anything. tests are more of the concept of the things, not exact dates. fun classes. bow tie guy!
Jahnel is the best professor I have ever had. His tests are rather long but not hard if you pay attention. He cares for his subject and his students and is always available to lend a hand. Easy A if you pay attention and dont procrastinate too much. Rock on Rambowtie.
A very inspiring professor, good role model. He definetely loves what he does. Will eventually fall off a chair.
I don't know why people love this guy. I could only handle one lecture, I had to get out of there FAST. He thinks he is the funneist guy around, when really you just want to kick him in the shins. His favorate word is the F word and personaly I dont think a REAL educated man would use such language.
Best histoy class i have ever taken. I learned sooo much and he is soo comical in his lectures. He makes it fun coming to class. If you do the work and come to class you will pass no problem.

I am at awe the amount of people who Like this guy; I am taking the summer session and I am so frustrated with him. He is too pompous. He feels his stuff is the most important and about 1/2 the class is him B.S.'ing. DONT take it during the summer. He does swear ALOT and makes ****, disgusting remarks. Very unprofessional, gross, and irritating.
Best class ever! The guy just likes his stuff so much! Tumbs up!!!!!!!!!!

Professor Jahnel by far the best teacher I have had. Makes the subject become very interesting and fun, I started recording his lectures just so I could listen to them a second time because they are so interesting as well as entertaining and comical. Jahnel’s tests are all essay questions, every now and then he may give a quiz, which goes toward th
Jahnel is the best teacher I have ever had! He always made me laugh, and really enjoy the lectures. I plan on taking 102 with him as well. Its an easy class if you do your work and pay attention. Study for that suprise pop quiz, if you do well on that you should pass the class :) It would be crazy to take any other history teacher!
Oh Jahnel. What can I say about this man. He's hilarious. Tips for his class. DO THE BOOK NOTES EVERY WEEK. Dont wait until the last minute. it sucks. believe me. His tests are exactly what he tells you they will be. no surprises. very important to attend his lectures though.
oh man what a blast, laugh till you cry in class but be prepared to do some serious homework, and take his finals serioulsy.
Mr. Jahnel is extremely outgoing and has a true passion for what he teaches. He is easy to listen to during his lectures but you might want to tape them just incase! He is helpful and you can ask him anything. Tests are essay-short answer..easy just study. Don't wait till the last minute to write conclave.
very nice and outgoing. he teaches everything you need to know. exams are a sinch if you go to his class. do the book notes, it sucks to do them the night before. he is funny and caring. i will take him for hist 102! :)
Professor Jahnel is AMAZING. If you do not take his class, I will bet that you will regret it later when you are sitting in another History class bored. I loved his lectures, I know that I will not have another teacher that is anything like him. There is no one on earth like him :-). Take his Class!
Professor Jahnel is by far the best teacher at Palomar!! before taking his class, i had no interest at all in history, but he makes the class SO interesting and he is SO hilarious that I actually wanted to come to class! dont wait until the last minute to do book notes! they are so easy but time consuming.. something I learned. TAKE HIS CLASS!!
as we all know..fantastically funny prof! great teaching and attention grabbing tactics, knows college students well. text is used mainly for the summary notes he collects as part of our notebook. the final is tedious but not very hard to do. take jahnel, he'll change your life.
Jahnel is the freakin man! In the 102 class you don't have to take notes on the chapters so there is literally 2 pieces of homework: a 3-4 page essay and a 20 page essay. But these are easy. He only grades on if you followed the directions, not on the actual quality. You will enjoy this class!
Amazing Professor. You will not have many opportunities to have a professor quite like Jahnel. He is a good prefessor who cares very much for every student in his class.
Witty and helpful.
Jahnel is the best teacher you will ever have! He acts out all the history scenes in front of the class. I will never forget when he took off his bow tie and tied it around his head acting out an Indian scene. The funniest thing ever! Never a dull lecture. A life changing teacher! Take all the classes you can because you will be entertained!
HE IS DAMN GOOD AT WHAT HE DOES, EXCELLENT FOR ANYONE WHO HATES HISTORY OR DOES NOT UNDERSTAND IT VERY WELL, I ENTER WITHOUT WANTING AND BY THE SECOND DAY I JUST WAITED TO GO AND TAKE HIS CLASS, EXTREMELY CLEAR AND FUNNY. EXCELLENT TEACHER. TAKE HIM 100% RECOMENDED...
I took both 101 and 102 with Jahnel, and I am sad to say that i wont ever be in his classes again! He should teach all the history's! He is the best teacher by far, and I have yet to meet anyone quite like him, nor do I think I ever will. He is truly a unique wonderful teacher! TAKE HIM!!
I took Hist 101 and 102 with Jahnel and he is the best teacher to ever come to Palomar College! I wish I could have him for all of my classes!!! Jahnel for President.
This class will challenge you, but at the end you will be proud of all you accomplished. Jahnel is very approachable and is always going out of his way to help you. I just wish he taught my next level of History.
he's extremely funny, and I'm constantly laughting, but there is one downside, a 20 page paper instead of a final. I would rather take the final!
Jahnel is by far the funniest & best history teacher! changes your outlook on history. he makes the class very funny & entertaining which makes u look forward to going. very helpful, a little challenging but not overwhelming. class is not mandatory as long as u get notes from friends. i would definitely take another class taught by him!
I don't know what it is, I just feel really uncomfortable in his class. If you miss more than 3 days you're dropped. I tried explaining to him that i get frequent extreme nausea but he doesn't seem to understand. Also, he has the tendency to say "UMMMM.." after every sentence and it's so annoying! Everybody thinks he's funny but me. I had to drop.
What can I say, Jahnel is probably one of the best teachers I've ever had. He knows his history and he makes it really fun! Great personality, jokes, funny. His tests are extremely long and very hard. There is no multiple choice here, it's all essay questions. So study and know your stuff! Take Jahnel for history and NO ONE else!

Hilarious!!!! I love jahnel! He is by far the best professor ever! Take his class and you will not only learn a lot but you will be entertained as well.
very kind and funny guy. lectures a lot in a funny way. makes u take book notes of 8 chapters which are 30 pgs long, but u got a couple months to do it. tests are hardly multiple choice, and essay questions that make up that grade. hes a great teacher but didnt change my mind about history at all i still hate it. would have done better if i studied
I took him for 101/102. Jahnel is a great teacher and his exams are really fair, but yes mostly essay. Best advice i could give is go to class, take good notes, and go to the tutorial.
You actually have to do work in this class but I have to say that he is definitely one of the best professors Ive had. I would not hesitate to recommend him.
The most interesting and skilled lecturer I've ever had, funny and great at getting concepts across. Painfully difficult if you are a procrastinator (i.e. me), (tons of booknotes/three essay tests/25 pg paper for a final). Extremely lenient if you just ask him for help and explain what's going on, obviously remembers what it's like to be a student.
He is awesome! History is the worst subject I feel, and I really enjoyed his class. He made it fun, especially with his pedestool speeches from time to time!

If you want your comment to stay, you can't say the professor is rating someone her/himself. You can't talk about someone's personal life either. See the guidelines.
He really gets into character when it comes to his lectures, which makes you want to do good for him and thus effects your grade (in a good way!) And even if you dont enjoy history, you will with him. He is also very helpful and is aiming for your best results (he wants you to do well :)
Friggin awesome. I never really understood history before-- I might have learned facts but he teaches it in such a fun and understandable way that not only will you know facts about history, but you'll understand how events came to happen. And it's stand-up comedy every day, which is worth taking the class right there.
he is a great teacher. good at what he does and he makes sure you understand the important facts. very enthusiastic...its hard to fall asleep! Take him if you can get in people line up to be in this class! use his outline for your test study guide!!! it helps!
I had Jahnel for 101 and made sure to take him for 102. All I can say is that he's the BEST teacher at Palomar. Highly recommend!! He has you do a 22 page paper at the end instead of a test for final. Not too thrilled about doing a paper, but just to be in his class is totally worth it!Jahnel is the BEST!
Prof. Jahnel is one of the best professors to take for history. He incorporates interesting stories into his lectures which makes it easier to understand. Most of the test questions come from lectures so make sure you attend class. 20 page paper due at the end of semester. Final optional. Went to most classes and did decent on tests got an A.
Prof Jahnel has made history a very fun and enjoyable learning experience. History has always been a very dark and confusing subject for me butJahnel has made History more clear with his way of telling the important parts of history. TOOK THE SUMMER CLASS, TONS OF BOOKNOTE. BE PREPARED FOR CALLUSES ON YOUR HAND.22 page final not as bad as it sounds
Jahnel is very comedic and enjoyable. There is no homework except for book notes. study the outline and you can?t get lower than a B on tests. he will read everything you write on your test and in your notes so stay on topic. Only complaint is you can only miss 3 days of class and then he drops you. Great teacher, very helpful, highly recommended.
He is such a good teacher! I loved going to his class because he is funny and makes History interesting. =)
If you like standup comedy he is the one. I have never seen any body as knowledgable as him about history in my life. He has a hard way of grading student. We had to write 21 page paper for final. According to him, just because we took his summer course, he didn't ask us for 24 page research. But I would take his class again!
is a great teacher if you want to hear him say uhhhhhh over 100 times a class YOU KNOW!
He is the best teacher I have EVER had. Take his class because it is absolutly amazing. You will learn a lot. I love history and he makes it so much more fun for me. I also have a total crush on him. :P
Jahnel is a great teacher, but the tests are hard & the 20-page paper you write is a nightmare. I learned a lot, but I wouldn't recommend this class if you are taking another class with a heavy workload. You also shouldn't take it for an easy A! One bad thing: you have to be at the final, even though you are not required to take a test. :(
Perhaps the most amazing instructor I have ever had - completely makes himself available to his students before/after class - lectures are structured and organized, yet his improvisations increase participation and make you WANT to listen! The ability to formulate an argument in writing is a MUST HAVE skill for success in this class!
Best teacher ever! he does require a lot of work but it is totally worth it. he is entertaining and is full of amazing facts. his class was really enjoyable. if you show up and listen, you'll at least get a C, it really is not hard to pass his class, but if you do not give a**** about history or schooling do not take this class!
HE IS A FANTASTIC PROFESSOR! both my brothers went through palomar and had him and made me take him!! SO glad I did!! I looked forward to his class. Its not easy, but it is so worth it!
Jahnel is the best professor I have had. He keeps lectures lively and interesting. The way he talks about historical figures makes it seem like he knew them personally, which allows you to make more of a connection to the material.
very bad
Jahnel is a pretty good teacher. Don't recommend taking it in the summer though. The class is not easy, you have to be willing to learn the material and pay attention in class. All his exams are written 4 total, 1 paper 18-20pgs. He's funny and keeps you interested ALL THE TIME, and always willing to help. Take him, you wont regret it.
I really liked him and his class. He's very funny and lively. The Conclave project was pretty crucial to me because I'm not a very good writer and I hate history...but all in all I thought he was great. I will be taking his 101 class in the fall!
He was absolutely great. Every lecture was super interesting and he has an insane amount of energy. If you get started on the 16 page paper before the last week of class you'll be totally fine. Don't bother buying the book; just take notes!
Prof. Jahnel is a very good choice for Hist. He is a little crazy, its scary at first, but if you pay attention and take notes, it is an easy class in which there are many laughs. Taking the 6 wk class is a little intense, but doable.
BEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD!He makes you work hard for your grade but in the end you will be so proud of yourself. You wont regret taking his class.
Really great teacher that actually knows the material and does not simply regurgitate what was said in the textbook in a different way. I took the class over the summer and I found it to be really easy except for the conclave paper.I thought it was great how he only tests you on what he has taught you.
Probably the best professor I ever had. He's extremely funny, has great energy, loves to teach, and loves his students. It wasn't the easiest class I ever took, but he was really helpful in providing tutorials and pretty much everything to help his students pass. Even if you hate history, you'll love this class. Take it!
Professor Jahnel brings a whole new college experience to the table. He definitely makes his class enjoyable and he always has office hours for his students if you need help. Very little homework, very fair tests, a good history and college class overall.
I highly recommend this teacher. He made History class interesting and clear. I laughed at something he did or said every class and I enjoyed going to everyone of his classes.
VERY highly reccomended, Prof Jahnel is a whole new type of professor. The lectures are VERY interesting considering it is almost like "story time" with a lot of swearing. He is very clear and truely brings history to life.
Funny! Easy tests if you take notes in class. Reasonable projects. Fair grader. He's like an encyclopedia of everything history! Makes history bareable... One thing I wasn't a fan of is the way he would say "Ya knoooooow" a lot, other than that a great teacher, taking him again next semester for 102 =)
Probably one of the most unforgettable teachers ever. I used to hate history but now, I enjoy it. My only advice is to go to class! Lectures are so unique that you'll remember the actual story he told during lecture while you're taking the test!
He should write more on the board for visual learners. He definitely makes his class enjoyable and he always has office hours for his students if you need help. Very little homework, very fair tests. He should use power point presentations. I think the outlines should be more specific. He talks to fast! He is always willing to help!! :)
Dude is hilarious. Acts like a big kid most of the time and lectures are usually really funny.
Teachers Great! Very informative and very smart!
great teacher. I took jahnel two semester back to back for history 101 and 102. He is very funny and class is fun to be at. If you want to do well i suggest taking good lecture notes cause tests are based on lectures. Only huge work is 1 big paper for the semester but he gives you the whole semester to do it
Probably the best teacher I've ever had. Made it actually interesting and worth getting up for an 8am class.
Took his 101 and 102 class. Al I can say is he is hilarious and b=very helpful. He makes a subject that would normally be boring, fun and memorable with his funny stories and enthusiasm for the subject. Highly Recommended. If you have to take Hist 101 and 102, only do it with Jahnel. And go to the tutorials, they are very helpful.
Jahnel is an egomaniac. The classroom is his stage. Very entertaining however he doesn't want questions to be asked during his performance. He has been hypocritical in following his mandatory syllabus. Rarely responds to emails. Visiting hours are late in the day & are difficult to schedule if you have a life. It's all about Jahnel
Awesome teacher here guys,it might sound cliche but Jahnel makes what would otherwise be a terribly dry and boring class into something really fun. He's witty and incredibly funny and tells great stories all tying into whatever he is teaching you that day. Sure you do a lot of work but none of it is difficult it just takes time.
I took Jahnel for Hist 101 & 102. He is absolutely my favorite professor! His lectures are always interesting and relevant. He is so funny & smart. His tests are always fair, just study off the outlines. He is very caring and is always willing to help you. He even gives his # out. You can't find a better teacher than him! I got A's in both classes!
Awesome teacher! He will add any and all crashers, even if there are no chairs left! Take him, you won't regret it!
Prof. Jahnel is an amazing teacher and friend. He is a huge nerd with alot of hilarious stories to tell. Tho his final is a 20page essay it was actually an easy final, just took a long time to finish it. I recommend Jahnel wholeheartedly. TAKE HIS CLASS AND YOU WONT WANT TO MISS HIS CLASS!!!
The Bow Tie Guy! Loved his class. He isn't easy, you will have to take good notes. You will write a few essays prior to the 20 page final. But at that point you will be so good at writing about history it becomes an easy final. Some people told me I would fail because he was to hard and sarcastic. They where wrong. I got an A and learned something!
Good guy.
AMAZING TEACHER! really passionate and entertaining. There's a LOT of work but it's doable and worth it. I definitely recommend his class! do yourself a favor and take him!
Best TEacher.. if you dont want to waste time take this class because this guy knows his stuff.. Funny and there is never a dull moment
Best! Teacher! Ever! Pay close attention and keep up with the books. He's spectacular and will have you rolling on the floor laughing. You won't regret this professor. His classes are always full, so sneak in if you can!
Professor Jahnel is by far the best teacher I have ever had. Not only is he extremely knowledge about the subject but he makes the information easy and fun. I have never laughed so hard in any class and my only regret is that I couldnt take him for more classes! he truly cares about the students and goes above and beyond to help you out :)8
Nothing to say that hasn't been said before - he's fantastic and hilarious! The only thing that sucks is doing notes from the book at home - the notes you do in class barely seem like work :)
Mr Jahnel is an amazing teacher.. his tests are based on the notes in class if you come to class and pay attention you will pass the tests with flying colors.. I hated history before i had him.. took him for both 101 and 102 can honestly say i will miss history because of his teaching
Jahnel is a great teacher. Enthusiastic about his job and the subject matter. If you don't want to attend and take notes, you'll have a hard time in the class. Tests are based completely on class notes. He tends to ramble, but gets through the content quickly.
Worst teacher ever! I got an F in his class after trying very hard. He never responds to emails. Going to his class is like watching reruns of the last comic standing. Absolutely dislike his teaching style. PLEASE listen I know what other reviews say, but if you plan on taking a full load of classes, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! AVOID HIM!
Jahnel makes history much less painful. I showed up, took notes, reviewed notes and asked lots of questions...easy A. Be prepared to write and follow directions. Write down everything he says during lecture, review it once a week and you will PASS FO SHO!!
Professor Jahnel was an amazing teacher. Yes, you do have to show up and take good notes, but if you pay attention you should be fine. Only professor I've ever had that compared early 20th century American foreign policy to South Park's Eric Cartman. Need I go on?
Big 20 pg paper due at end of semester. Lectures are interesting and accompanied with a plethora of nerdy jokes
His jokes are Hilarious (sometimes). Most of the time, It's like he is trying too hard. his quizes are impossible. His tests, are crazy : ( He is not a great example of a TEACHER. He is however, a comedian
He is a tough grader. If he wasn't telling so many jokes, he could literally tell you all the information for that day's lecture in less than 5 minutes and THAT IS THE TRUTH
He was a nice guy, I guess. But his 20 page paper is ridiculous. Most of the time, class was like 15 people. Not my favorite teacher. GREG MARSHALL IS THE WAY TO GO!
You'll LOVE Jahnel the guy...the teacher? No. I came into this class already a history geek, and while the classes were hilarious and interesting, the tests were RIDICULOUSLY complex and detailed, IMPOSSIBLE to pass, with hardly any home/busywork to boost your grade.
Funny Guy, But DO NIT TAKE HIM. HE WILL fail YOU I PROMISE!
Look, the class was easy as long as you paid attention and took notes clear enough to understand. He's a dork,(it takes one to know one) but an awesome teacher. loves what he does, and obviously so! you can easily break the twenty page paper into four or five sections anyway.
While he attempts to be funny in class to compensate for his poor teaching style, he also sets unrealistic requirements (e.g. a 20 page paper), HARSHLY grades assignments/tests and offers little to no flexibility. Communication is very poor; he rarely responds to emails. Overall, I wouldn't recommend you to take this professor under any conditions.
I came in as a history-geek who was eager to learn; it was my favorite subject after all. However even with that, I can't help but highlight that Jahnel has extremely poor teaching methods. He is irrational, unreasonable and a bit of a narcissist. He doesn't help or communicate with his students. All-in-all, DO NOT TAKE HIM, ever, for your own sake
Jahnel is a super sweet guy, hilarious, and very knowledgeable. He was an inspiration in 101, and I loved his teaching style so much, I'm now in his 102 class. He is superb; overall, he's the best. The only things you need to know are this: KEEP UP. Do not procrastinate his work, and you will pass. Simple, really.
Can honestly say he is one of the best professors I have ever had even after attending other universities. Take good notes, study them and prep for the tests. Stay on top of it! He'll help if you ask for it. 20 page paper (surprisingly) isn't that bad. Lectures are hilarious!! He's a rigorous professor/grader, because he expects students to learn.
He knows how to make a boring subject entertaining. Class is some what hard because there is a lot of new information, but if you pay attention and attend lectures, you'll do fine. 20 paper paper - just sounds scary because you can divide it into different parts, in reality the hardest part is to push yourself to start.
Okay seriously he goes out of his way to help understand. He has office hours, answers emails, and even on his own time offers a tutorial for you to attend completely optional.Pay attention, take notes, read, and u will be fine.He is not a professor that is just gonna pass you. I actually learned and applied myself. He is funny and kept my attention
I absolutely loved having Mr. Jahnel as a professor. He was a really nice guy and I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures. A huge portion of his class is based off the term paper he assigns you though, so if you do not care for that I do not recommend it.
Jahnel is AWESOME!!!! I would take his course again. His colorful way of teaching keeps you involved and he helps you every step of the way through. He is fair and give you the grade you deserve. Those who have complained probably were caught cheating or was a plagiarizer their term paper. Take his course.
FUNNY! Never a boring class. Very helpful & nice. class notes = tests. Need book hist 101; collects book notes hist 101. Study lecture notes/write everything he says down. START PAPERS EARLY!!!!!!; he gives feedback on 'em. Do assignments correctly, study = get an A. Jahnel is so cool (geeky cool) & approachable that u should take him if possible.
He is hilarious and has great teaching ways. I love his nerdy jokes and comments. He loves history and you can tell in his lectures. He has hands on demonstrations and responds to emails and has convenient office hours and is also available after class. His teaching and how well he gets you into the class helped me in choosing history as my major
Jahnel is funny and very intelligent and nerdy (like me). The biggest thing that brought him down as a professor is you have to do booknotes and classnotes for a grade (20%). I thought I was an adult in college not a 7th grader in middle school. There is a 20 page paper that is harder than it needs to be. Avoid him if you can.
I took Jahnel for my history 101 class last fall, and loved it so much that I just had to take his 102 class last spring. He has hands down been my favorite teacher at Palomar. His lectures were always entertaining, and you never ever get bored. He is very passionate and honest in his teaching and it inspires his students as well.
Fun class! Print out the outlines, they'll help you out. He composes most of his test questions from lecture, which he performs quite well. He's one of those lecturers that's FUN to listen to, you'll enjoy your time. There is a 20 page paper, but really, it's not hard, and he's there to help you through it. I recommend him!
I took Hist 101 and then just had to take 102. He is super helpful. Gives tutorials before the test he doesn't have too! The 20 page paper is not that bad seriously! It prepared me and I chose stuff I loved. He is SUPER HILARIOUS which made class fun to attend and remember. Nothing in life is easy even college as an adult we have to work. Duh.
Hes a wonderful man dont get me wrongc! His tests are hard & you have to put most of your work & focus into his class if you wish to pass & ATTEND CLASS!No freebees you actually have to work for it! And Really really work at it and you might get a c ...
Profesor Jahnel is one of the better professors I have encountered at Palomar. He is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and entertaining. You do have to work in this class to achieve a good grade. He will make you step outside your comfort zone, especially in regards to the 20 Page Essay. Regardless, you will leave his class better educated.
Best teacher there is for history. Love his bow ties! You must show up everyday and take notes on everything he says or writes down. Anything he says or writes down will/could be on the test. Yes his paper is awful... but he gives you so much time to do it that it doesn't matter.
I took Jahnel for History 101 and 102. Both semesters I walked away completely gratified with my learning experience through him. Jahnel makes the topics so interesting and relevant. It's not an easy A, but you walk away having learned a ton. Print his outlines, they really help. He always responds to emails for help, best professor on campus!!
He is a great and passionate teacher who is definitely one of the best lecturers at Palomar. If you stay up with the work in the text you'll ok. You'll probably hate him for the 20-page final but afterwards you will realize how awesome he is. Just DO NOT procrastinate. He is very understanding and helpful to students if you ask for it.
Outstanding teacher. I can;t say enough good things about this guy. He's hilarious, engaging, and teaches you everything you need to know for the tests. I didn't even buy the textbook and I did just fine. There is a large paper at the end of the semester, but there isn't much other homework. 10/10 would take Jahnel again.
Best Teacher I've ever had. He simply gets it. History was my least favorite subject until I took two History classes from Jahnel. The world needs more teachers like him.
I took Jahnel's history 101 class and he was AMAZING! I hate history with a fire burning passion but the way Jahnel teaches it's hard not to pay attention and learn, you feel as if you are having an intellectual and hilarious conversation with a friend. I feel he is the most knowledgable history teacher at Palomar college. Take his class!
Jahnel is awesome! Love his class. Its the 1st one in the morning for me and its awesome. He makes sure to include everyone and tries to remember everyones name. Really recommend him, just don't skip class and no procrastination on his final.
Jahnel's lectures are long and riddled with frequent humor and silly jokes. If that's not your sort of thing, avoid if possible. In complete juxtaposition of that, he's quite tricky academically. Notes are required, and you better be good at them. Assignments are easy if your study skills are solid. He'll expect you to give your all for his course.
He is so hilarious, he is very understanding if you have any problems. I took both his 101 and 102 and he is my all time favorite teacher I've had here. He assigns 20 page papers, but I highly recommend you just go ahead and take the class because after i wrote that paper every single paper I've written ever since was a breeze
Professor Jahnel was awesome and I looked forward to coming to his class. PRO: Very funny, offers extra credit, interesting lectures. CON: The end of the semester research paper was a monster. I recommend taking his class, and i plan to take his history 102 in the future
As stated, he does require a 20 page paper for his course. However, I did manage to only write 13 pages and received an A on it. As long as you show that you know the material and make it an interesting paper, you'll receive a good grade. Funny dude, and the exams were online.
Great professor I hope to take his 102 class. Very funny and clear on what he wants. As long as you do the work and put some effort into it you will pass.
Jahnel is the BEST professor I've ever had. History is boring to me but he made it my favorite class I've ever taken. He's so funny, and beware that he uses profanity in every class. You can tell what political party he belongs to but makes lectures very unbiased which I loved and appreciated. Take his class!!! You won't regret it!!!
MADE ME LOVE HISTORY LOVE HIM SO MUCH! All quizzes online @home.."no internet" (multiple chooseshort answer) 20pg paper assigned beg of semester due @the end That's it for assignments super easy. wouldn't skip classes bcuz notes are important to study for "QUIZESS" Loves his students don't be scared to take to him
This teacher is not one of those teachers that passes even if you try. If you have a C at the end of the semester be ready for him to fail With a 20 page paper. I went to class everyday did all my work and tests and he still couldn't pass me oh and I did 4 pages of extra credit. The last assignment he dropped my grade two full grades!
I don't think this is a very good teacher he tells you things are going to be ok but they arnt. He said like any teacher if you come everyday do your work you should pass that's a lie. I did all my work went every day and did all the extra credit he gave and he drops my grade two full grades with the last assignment a 20page paper dont take bill!
He's a great professor and you'll learn a lot from him. Just one thing: make sure you don't treat his 20 page Conclave like a joke! It should be your primary focus throughout the entire semester. It can honestly make or absolutely break your grade! I also saw that two people below me graded him as poorly as they were, "which is rude!"
Good professor. Funny and loves his subject. Just watch out for that 20 PAGE RESEARCH ESSAY! For an IGETC class? Seriously? Yeah, seriously. Start researching topics for this right away!
Nice guy, but his lectures are impossible to take notes on. Isn't exactly classy or elegant. Can't teach you about Mayan Civilizations without using expletives. Take him if: You unironically find minions humorous and Dr. Who enjoyable Dont take him if: You're looking for a good history class and not eye-roll worthy lectures
Although there were a few long assignments, if you study the material and attend class, the assignments would be a breeze. And don't leave it for last minute!
Jahnel is an exciting teacher who is passionate about history. Fun class and expect to put in an average amount of study time during the semester and more towards the end
My sides still hurt from laughing, and I had him last semester. Bill is an incredible teacher. He tries to make history as fun as it can possibly be. Anyone below commenting about him being an unfair teacher doesn't know what they're talking about, or didn't care enough to engage in the class. Take Bill, if you can. You won't regret it.
Take him hes great
While, yes, this prof is "funny," he is not the best teacher. I found him to be arrogant and rude. I am a female and I felt offended every class. He is definitely a guys guy, so I recommend only men take him. Also, the big paper that everyone complains about is given during the first class so they are probably just lazy and procrastinated.
START YOUR 20 PAGE RESEARCH PAPER AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE... 20 pages in one week is hard. Oh and reading the book will help, but if you stop it's easy to get lost because he doesn't tell or assign you what to read
Such an awesome professor! Truly a very engaging lecturer and perhaps the best on campus. He's not that hard but just don't be lazy and you'll get an A. Literally procrastinated my 20 page paper 3 days before it was due and got an A.
Great teacher. He adds in interesting facts into his lectures so you don't get bored. tests are online. He assigns the 20 page conclave the first day and its not due till the end. Weeks before its due, he will read sections of your paper and give you feedback and help you fix it. Literally no reason to fail this class. Hes helpful and kind.
Very out going and great personality. To be honest though, those who find history their strongest subject or just find it interesting will pass the class. He requires too much for a class that's only a pre-req for my major like his 20 page essay and tends to tell stories (relating to lesson but not test). This is a class that is not a breeze.
Truly one of the best professors I have had. He loves to do what he does and does it well. Homework is a fair amount and quizzes and tests are done online. He does have his infamous 20 page paper but he offers to look at it and correct it so you know what your final grade is before you turn it in. Took two courses with him & I would take him again.
best professor iv had! looked forward to his classes, his test are online and has one 20 page paper that isn't to bad because its broken up into smaller parts. his test are hard and you have to study but his personality makes up for it! this applies for both 101 and 102
This teacher lives to lecture, but he doesn't lecture well. He gets on his soapbox every other minute, all the while cursing and telling dirty jokes at an attempt of humor. I am a heavy note taker and I'll walk away with only half a page of class notes (mostly doodles). Start the 20 page final at least halfway through to survive.
This teacher is an amazing teacher, I normally hate sitting in class listening to teachers as they drag on, but he makes the class fun and exciting, I loved coming to class every day and was always eager to be there. He is also a very understanding man, when the midterm slipped my mind due to family issues he understood and reopened the exam for me
History can be very boring but Prof. Jahnel makes it incredibly entertaining. It's hard to NOT pay attention in his class. He assigns a 20 page research paper, but you get to pick the topic and you have the full semester to work on it. I highly recommend him for 101 & 102.
He is AWESOMEEEEEE!!!!
Good guy but class is hard. Lectures seem to be just rants and there are no clear ways on how to take his notes. you kind of have to pick apart what he says and transform them into notes. Tests online but very difficult.
Each class gives a hilarious lecture for the most part nothing about history at all. His midterm/final are both online. He says you need the textbook but you dont i bought it and i never opened it once so just save your money. The biggest part about the class is the 20 page conclave paper that isnt hard at all. Didn't learn anything but I got a B
Jahnel is my second favorite teacher through my whole college experience. Though he has a habit of stepping up & staying on his soapbox, I've met no one more hysterical or passionate about history. The 20 page paper I bombed would be my only complaint, but to be fair he gives an entire semester to do so. He genuinely prioritizes his students.
Hi Mrs. Jahnel! :) There is no HW but make sure to ATTEND Class & take lots of notes, as Exams will reflect lectures discussion. Exams are online. The 20page paper is really 10 2pg papers, & he gives whole semester to do it. You can tell Jahnel loves what he does and truly cares about his students. Entertaining and thought-provoking lectures.
Very hard class. Tremendous amount of homework. Tremendous amount of reading & writing. A bit too much in my opinion... It didn't leave much time for other classes. Also, he's a character... Which is both bad & good. He's funny, but sometimes jokes around too much. You'll definitely learn history... But it felt more like a 5 credit class.
Awesome professor. Make sure to do you book notes all the way to the end. Doing this will help you with you 20 page essay. Start early. You can go to him any time and ask for help. Super easy to talk to. I'm already taking his 102 class.
Prof. Jahnel was my favorite professor when i went to Palomar. He was passionate, and dedicated to the subject. He was funny and energetic making the lecture fun. He has a large paper due at the end of the semester but if you start early and ask for help he will provide. If i was still attending Palomar i would take his class again.
LOVE this teacher, you'll never want too miss a day of class lectures are important, tests are fairly easy if you pay attention which isn't hard. 20 page research paper is the reason I will fail this class but happily take it again. You Want This Prof!
Dear Mama Jahnel, This is the best history class I've ever had. Prof. Jahnel is hilarious and informative and so respectful of students and what they have to say. I've only had this level of respect for 2 Professors at Palomar. If I have the chance to take his class again, I so would. 10/10! The class is easy as long as you keep up.
Sometimes he goes off tangent but he quickly comes back to the lecture points. I see some people are calling him offensive and that's so not true. He's so careful about not offending anyone and making sure everyone is okay. He even has disclaimers about parts of his lectures that are kind of traumatic. I'd definitely take the class again.
Bill is possible the best professor I've ever had, I don't know if it's his sheer amount of jokes or his caring personality but he just really tries to make the class as fun as possible without boring everyone. His jokes are funny and always keeps the class laughing. Is a nerd with video games. 10/10 Is a 1337 professor. TAKE HIM.
Professor Jahnel is funny, caring, and a great lecturer. You've done well Mrs. Jahnel. His class consists of two exams, both of which are online, and a 20 page research paper. The 20 page research paper seems daunting at first, but he gives you the entire semester to do it, and has office hours daily if you need help. Overall, he's a great prof.
Hands down once of the best professors I have had. I hate history and he has definitely given me a whole new respect for the subject. He does cuss a lot, but he his incredibly funny and shows his passion through his lectures as well. I would love to take his class again. There are very few assignments so just make sure you do NOT miss a single one.
Bill Jahnel is an amazing professor!!!
If you are easily offended then do not take this class. Jahnel likes to use profanity. He lectures as if he is telling a story so there isn't a ton to take notes on but the information is easy to remember. Doesn't put emphasis on memorizing names and dates. All tests and quizzes are online which is nice. Start your 20 page paper early!
My second time taking this professor because everyone absolutely loves him. Truly an amazing man. Assigns a Huge paper but gives you every toll available to a good job. You're grade in this class is for EFFORT. You'll want to attend this class, its never dull. PS: 2 Semesters and I've never used the textbook, just pay attention in class.
Professor Jahnel was a great teacher for my first class at college. He made lectures vibrant and not boring, and class always went by fast. He respects all opinions and isn't fixated to one side of the spectrum. Amazing teacher overall! Taking him again for History 102 this Spring.
Terrible sense of humor that gets old quickly. Part of the reason his class is so lecture heavy is because half of it is spent on himself giggling at every joke he makes. Won't respond to emails if you're ill, so be sure to drag yourself to class before he drops you after two absents.
Bill changed the way I looked at history. I took him for 101 and 102 and I did that because he challenged me. His tests are easy if you know the why and how, because he doesn't require you to really know the who and when. He is very caring and easy to talk to. the 20 page paper seems daunting but if you break it in to sections its not so bad.
Pretty simple class 2 big tests and a huge research paper. Pass those and youre set One or two extra credit pop quizzes bout required readings Hes funny if you like movie references haha He likes to go off on tangents a lot so just only write down what is needed. Good professor if you like history
***20 PAGE ESSAY BY THE END OF THE SEMESTER. *Mic Drop. But still a really funny professor, so I guess it counters the huge final essay.
Professor Jane is so hilarious. His lectures are super interesting and class is never boring. The tests are all online and they are seriously hard, so make sure you prepare. Also, don't wait till the last minute to do the 20 page paper!
He cracks jokes during lectures-funny guy. Listen and take notes! He is lecture heavy-but very informational. The 20 page paper seemed ridiculous when assigned, but if you break it up and don't leave it until last minute-it was a breeze. I learned a lot in his class! Very happy with him.
no joke he is one of the best teachers I have had at Palomar college, I have been a student there since 2014! best experience I have had hands down!! hes super funny, and makes history so much fun! I loved coming to his lectures and as corny as this sounds I wished the lecture was longer! 20 page essay seems hard, but easy when you prepare!!!
By far the best teacher I have ever had at Palomar hands down wish he taught all my classes. Super Smart guy who knows what he is talking about and makes the classes interesting and engaging, and cares about his students. All you have to worry about in the class is the assignments he gives and the dreaded final papers in both 101/102.
Professor Jahnel is the best professor I have ever had, he is a laugh riot and never ceases to make his class interesting. I would highly recommend for other students
Jahnel is an amazing lecturer, funny, very caring, and passionate, but he's on crack if he thinks I'm willing to write a 25 page research essay for a lower division gen ed class. I have no problem writing papers, but that's just unreasonable. Take Marjanovic instead she's smart, funny, doesn't give too much homework, not to mention gorgeous.
My all time fav professor. He's a huge reason why I changed my major to history. His lectures are super interesting and funny. He makes everything super clear. He's always willing to help and make himself available. The work load is kind of heavy, but it's super rewarding in the end.
Prof Jahnel is a very nice and funny professor. He makes the class very entertaining but it is all lecture based. This class is solely based on his own words and nothing else. Lots of notes. Textbook needed. Exams are hard but all online. Grade based on notes, 2 midterms, online quizzes, and the final is a 20 page essay. Lots of busy work.
This man is pretty solid- although his back isnt (Sorry not sorry). His lectures are always a delight to go to when they happen- it was the best part of my morning! His coursework was only difficult in the 2 midterms, the dreaded 20 pager (which wasnt too bad) and thats it. If youre looking for a History professor, Id recommend Jahnel for it!
Professor Jahnel is a great professor! Took him for 101 and 102 and couldn't of been happier. Also please don't plagiarize! He'll automatically kick you out of Palomar and you are only cheating yourself by doing this! On another note be sure to schedule his class early since they are always booked.
Incredible. Bill Jahnel is one of the few professors who genuinely cares about his students. Struggling before an exam? He goes out of his way to host review sessions for you, going the extra mile to post study materials on Canvas. There are a few hefty less than ideal assignments, but overall the incredible spirit of Jahnel makes it all worth it.
Professor Jahnel is a great teacher he does tell a lot of jokes and rants a lot but, he does that to keep you engaged, hes quite funny and very insightful and is willing to help you whenever you need it. Beware the 20 page paper, do not put it off but start doing it a little at a time, and be original on it, for the BHFE he wants originality!
Dude's literally one of the best. If you hate swear words don't take him but otherwise he's hilarious. There's a 20 page paper for the end and honestly study for the tests bc they aren't anything to coast on. I'm pretty lazy but Bill's class is worth the effort. He makes the paper as easy as 20 pages can be and no paper seems scary now.
Dont take class in summer. I literally had 2-3 hours of homework everynight and then the final is awfully long. I'd rather have taken it during a regular semester
If you take his online class it is a ton of pointless busy work and he wants you to listen to hour long podcast of him speak. also the final is a 10 themed paper of history with a page and half to two pages long plus all other work you need to do at end of the semester. WARNING DO NOT TAKE OVER SUMMER
hour plus long Pod casts, plus lectures and then have readings you have to take nites and quizzes every other day completely uncalled for work
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASS. You have to listen to his podcasts, which are typically 1-2 hours long. He frequently goes off topic and his sense of humor leaves a lot to be desired. Did not respond to a request to reset a test when my internet went out. Which his tests and essays have a time limit. So if you have technical issues, good luck!
8 week online class. Jahnel gives you a schedule and if you follow it, its easy. The lectures can be long and he does go off topic occasionally, but there were also many times I laughed out loud because he is funny and he knows what he is talking about. Everything you need for quizzes, tests and the BFHE are on his lecutures. Take good notes!!
This is one of the harder online classes I have taken but Jahnel was a really great teacher! Despite the class being online, he has online podcast lectures which are great! Got to stay on top of all of the quizzes though... there's a lot and a huge essay at the end!
You can tell this man loves his profession. He's not afraid to delve into hard topics but still manages to be engaging and entertaining to listen to. he doesn't have many assignments, but the ones he does give out are towards the end of the semester, so don't procrastinate, as there's little to no extra credit!
TAKE THIS CLASS! First college class I ever took, fav prof. Professor Jahnel made everything interesting and funny even at 8 am on a Monday. His podcasts are a 1-2 hours but you can skim through and find the answers. Both midterms were taken online. BFHE is very time consuming but if you plan accordingly was able to do it working 40 hours a week.
He has a very enthusiastic personality and it is easy to see that he is passionate about what it does, which makes his lectures very engaging and interesting. I only had half the semester in person do to COVID lock downs, but after the transition to online he was still on top of assignments and was very kind and understanding with difficulties.
I feel like this professor nitpicks at your assignments. He is never clear on instructions and then excepts you to do the assignment perfectly. When you get something wrong he always has a condescending response. Hes makes these jokes that arent funny and he does them throughout his 5 hour lectures.
Such Amazing teacher! Hes really understanding if things come up and really cares about his students success. He has a cute and corky humor that makes his lectures and class fun! This class actually made me enjoy history. He offers EC opportunities
TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!! Jahnel is by far my favorite professor ever!! I have learned WAY more than I ever thought I would and he makes it so interesting. You will be educated beyond imaginable after his class. His podcasts are so interesting and funny and never boring. If you listen to the podcasts (this is for online learning) you will do good.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! Helps you whenever and opens time in his schedule to help you. Does Zoom sessions before exams to help you with any questions. Podcasts were a bit boring but as long as you took great notes, you will A+ all exams and quizzes. I signed up for Hist 102 with him now :)
His podcast are very fun and not at all boring. He is very funny and easily responsive. I took the shorter class so homework everyday. JUst listen to each lecture and you will surely pass. But skip out on them and you won't do to well. Great course highly recommend.
Got off topic quite a bit but I appreciate his humor and obvious passion. There was enough extra credit to bring your grade up and if you do the homework, you won't have to worry about the big tests too much. Took this as a fast track class and did not study much but was still fine in the end. Super fast with feedback and was helpful on final.
Jahnel is a classic good history professor. I did the 8-week course online during Covid and had to listen to a one hour lecture everyday (you can speed it up), and they were usually pretty interesting. Hes great at communicating and theres a very clear system. Time consuming but not usually hard.
Professor Jahnel is one of, if not the only History Professor at Palomar College that makes you want to go to class. It's not the typical, "read your textbook and discuss it in person" class, due to Jahnel's ability to encourage students to learn the curricukum in a fun way. Also, he may seem a bit off at first, but rest assured he will grow on u
I was excited to take HIS 101 and he ruined it for me. He has long daily podcasts. 70% of the time what he talks about isn't really related to the topic. He just goes on and goes to show off his knowledge about other things. He in an intelligent person, but never gets to the point. There are too many exams and 10 pages of writing about people.
I'm currently taking HIST 101. Professor Bill Jahnel is great, hilarious and very knowledgeable. If you put in the work and time you will do good in this class. I will take his class again.
Jahnel is a great professor. If life hasn't already completely crushed your soul, you will laugh at every lecture/podcast. He really does make it fun and easy to learn. There are no surprises in this class, if its on the exam its been covered in class. Do the work, get the A. That simple.
Professor Jahnel was one of the best history teachers I have ever had. His lectures are filled with jokes but are still very informative. The class I took only had one paper at the end of the semester. He is also super chill and tries his best to help his students. He is a solid choice if you need to take a history class.
Take his class even if it its not the best time. He does have long lectures they were each an hour or longer but if you listen to all of them and take notes you will most definitely get an A. I do not like history but he made me like it. He is funny and understanding if any troubles occur when submitting on time. The best.
All the reviews saying he was funny and had good lectures but that isn't enough. I don't feel like I'm learning material, I'm listening to his renditions and 40% of it is just inappropriate jokes and random millennial humor. Also his grading on the few things you do is super strict. He's been using the same podcasts/lectures from 2018. It got old.
People who complained about this Professor and his class, clearly are not college ready. He is super funny, cares about his students and he breaks down history into simple terms. There will be plenty of quizzes but they are not timed, overall I highly recommend this Professor and this class, he was awesome and gave the class 110% effort every time.
Very knowledgeable and inputs a lot of humor into his lectures which makes them more interesting. Lectures are long so dedicate time to ensure you take good notes. Exams are easy if you take good notes and pay attention to the lectures. By putting in the work and study time for the class, you will get an A.
He is a really good proffesor who really seeks to help you if you need it, its not difficult to work/learn with him and learning isn't hard (for logic you must put your effort). He been my 1st face to face professor was actually a really good experience, he provides alot of info. to learn as expected. I would recomend him to anyone taking Hist 102
Listen to lectures, you can take hiscast multiple times till you get 100% prepare for the BFHE(Big Fat Honken Essay) ask him to show you a card trick before the semester is over, take notes as well, He also cares about his students, really funny professor, highly recommend, good luck future students
A good proffesor who will be willing to help you pass the class. Like any class you must do your effort but he makes the lectures fun so that they become entertaining-and it actually works! Actually making it worth to learn about history and in some way about society too. I recommend his face to face classed and to never miss a day. He is flexible.
He requires you to listen to a ton of these HistCasts (which some of them can be up to 2 hours). Along with extra podcasts he requires you to listen to and a chapter of the book every week. He's a great prof and really wants you to succeed although his workload is too much and time consuming. If you procrastinate don't take the class :)
Felt like a lot of work but not too overwhelming. He wants to help you do good and pass the class.
Pros: He has a good personality. Very caring, & will help you if you're struggling. Good with responding to emails fast. Cons: He grades heavily especially for midterms. If you fail a test it will hurt your grade. His notes are unhelpful if you aren't a good listener. No power points. His quizzes are also confusing, & a challenge...
Expect to take plenty of notes and keep up with the assigned reading if you want to do well. Lectures are in-class and also assigned online to listen to in podcast format. He has a way of making them fun and interesting and made coming to class something to look forward to as long as you put in the effort. Easily recommend for HIST 101/102.
He was good, it's just the 2 hour long history casts that really got me. Be prepared, he doesn't do notes or slides. So it was difficult for me, I know others are different so I'm opened minded. Just be prepared for lot's of work. But overall he's a good guy with a big heart.
He is a very lenient professor and is willing to help + give extensions if needed. I would recommend taking his class if you're looking to not be bored taking history. His lectures are pretty long sometimes, but he cracks jokes and is witty, so that helps.
At least one quiz a week, usually pretty easy. Heavy mid-terms, not only on grade but they are very big. Take a lot of notes bc most of what you write about on essay questions are discussed in class. Pretty cool dude, tries to make class entertaining w jokes and high energy. Just a lot of work and heavy grading
Professor Jahnel was great. He was super compassionate in the way he taught. If you get offended easily or anything like that he might not be for you. I think his humor is hilarious. His teaching style although isn't for me. He pretty much just would talk to the class about the topic without any slides or anything. On the other hand, he's awesome!
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He is so creepy and in his lectures he makes so many inappropriate jokes that he thinks are endearing but make the listeners very uncomfortable. Most of the time these sexual innuendos have NOTHING to do with what topic he is covering. On top of this, it is such a heavy workload and you have to do all the work to succeed.
Took his 101 and the class was so great I based my next semesters schedule around the 102. Probably the most entertaining college class I have taken, I would consider it a bucket list class, you do have to do the work, but the textbook work is pretty easy, & the bulk of the at home work is listening to podcasts, so 10/10 would recommend.
He was a really good teacher and a fantastic lecturer. His lectures were"Histcasts", delivered in podcast form. It was honestly more entertaining then the podcasts I listen to for fun. The workload is reasonable, with lots of smaller daily assignments and bug tests were broken up. Great teacher and very understanding. I wish he taught more classes!
Professor Jahnel is a compassionate, funny, and engaging lecturer. His teaching style, with no slides and long discussions, might not be for everyone. But if you put in the effort and use resources like unstuckstudy ai for study prep, you'll learn a lot. Definitely worth taking.
I would highly recommend this professor and HIST 102. You listen to the lectures and take mostly quizzes with unlimited tries and time. There is some writing but it's easy. He makes the lectures interesting enough, and all the work is pretty easy He is a good guy.
He makes inappropriate jokes during lectures and most of the time it's unnecessary and curses excessively. But the good thing about him is that you can take the quizzes an unlimited number of times and you can use your resources. The midterms and finals though are only by memory.
Homework: no assignments but just weekly quizzes. To me I enjoyed the quiz and grateful we had no discussions Professor: always available, helped me by allowing me to turned in late assignments and no points lost! Good lectures and clear instructions! I would take because it's not homework heavy. Also have us plenty extension if we Asked like
Honestly loved this class and i'm not a big history fan. Professor Jahnel clearly loves history and is passionate about teaching it in a way that's interesting. He also seems to genuinely care for people in his class beyond just the grade aspect. There's a little bit of reading but overall an easy class.
He is pretty nice and understanding, it's super easy to pass the online tests and quizzes. There were also no group projects or any projects.
He's super funny!! Some people might cringe at his humor, but I really enjoyed his class & lectures. Consisted of mostly quizzes, but they're very easy & you can retake as many times needed. Final was a 10-page essay, but it was surprisingly VERY easy too! Also, if you're a gamer geek, definitely take him LOL. Very fun professor & class :)
At first it seemed fun for the lectures to be in Podcast form, but the medium soon became incredibly painful. Lectures drag on and on, and are filled with explicitly inappropriate jokes. It's impossible to take notes on 2-3 hour long lectures that go off topic every few minutes, and tests are quite difficult since there is such so much info.
Great instructor you can honestly tell he loves his job and is passionate about what hes teaching. He finds a way to make the class fun with his hisocasts and cares enough to work with you on your grades and anything going on in your personal life. Definitely recommend as he was quite refreshing from the typical teacher.
He sometimes has long lectures, but he is a great teacher overall. I severely messed up an assignment and he allowed me to email him a corrected version a week later and gave me full points. You can tell he loves what he does, and he makes it funny. I do not like history and he made it bearable. Overall I am not smart and got a good grade lol.
Never in an online class have I had to listen to so many lectures. Understandable if I have to read a lot of chapters. But having to listen to 1-2 hr lectures a day really makes the class drag on. Super nice professor otherwise, just very long. If you don't have the time to listen to that many lectures, take another professor.
As an online course, this wasn't bad by any means and it was easy to pass. The class was a bit disorganized and the exams were not graded quickly. Very lecture heavy but quizzes are often open note.
HIST 102: Professor Jahnel is a good teacher, but is lecture heavy. Write down as many notes as possible, exams have random questions that seem irrelevant. The most recent exam's "study guide" was to review all content from that semester. He also pulled questions from the first week of class. Not open book, no AI, timed, super strict... be careful
