Intensely focused. First day, asked him is he's a coach. He is. Wrestling. And it shows. Awesome!

Very helpful! Brings real life stories to why the class is important. Funny guy and fun to listen to. The assigned papers are hard if you are not an experienced writer. Gives good feedback on speeches.

Kilpack was my favorite teacher! He has a million stories to tell and he loves talking about himself, which is ok because he is a very interesting person. He grades pretty easy but marks up your papers a lot. His class has been my favorite so far and the most helpful. Great guy!

Tough class. Very real assignments. Didn't really believe him when he said every assignment is a real life exercise. I do now. I'm really grateful for the class and how Bill taught it. I'm sure I'm better prepared for future classes in college after taking this one.

Really enjoyed class. It was hard. He was right, though, that putting in the time would reflect in my grade. I did. Classes this term are a lot easier after what I learned in that one.

Really enjoyed his class. He always made lecture interesting with his personal stories. There is quite a bit of work required, but all of it has real-world applications. Don't take this if you're afraid to speak in front of others, I had to give to 2 individual presentations and a group one. Tests aren't too hard if you study. Highly recommended.

A LOT of speaking with a LOT of different types of speeches. But it was fun with a lot of good feedback. Didn't like speaking before this class. Now I do.

Bill knows how to keep the class engaged with his personal stories. Helpful to learn how to correctly compile a resume. But when I found out the class only counted as an elective when I transfered to the University, I wished I hadn't taken it. Public speaking isn't my thing. Nevertheless, he's a great teacher.

His teaching is very clear and interesting. Very fun class! The work load isn't easy but its not hard either, but it is VERY applicable to life. One of the best teachers I have had. Highly recommend him.

Teacher is a funny guy! He knows his stuff, and grades hard, but it is DEFINITELY worth it. You learn a lot, and he is great at what he does. He is a wrestler, so be prepared to miss a few classes for that, but otherwise a great guy and great class!

One of my favorite teachers to date. Learned more here than I did in any of my classes in my major this term. Probably more applicable in life, too! Great class. Wish he taught more that I need to graduate.

Probably one of the more difficult classes I've taken this semester, but, it's taught me a lot about speaking and writing. He's a great professor and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time in his classroom.

Really enjoyed class. Especially the class discussion format. Created a really friendly atmosphere. Made assignm,ents almost like team projects, even though they were individual. Never had an experience like that in a class before. Highly recommended!

Class was hard and Bill was firm on expectations, but I'm sure it'll be of great use in school and life.

Class was summer & was half HS kids. I was worried that Bill would be soft of the kids, but he wasn't. Same standards all around. Now I kind of wish I hadn't left this class till my last term. Great class. Thanks Bill.

Great class. Learned a lot. You get out of it what you put in. And please, no whining!

He knows his stuff. I learn from examples and he gives plenty of them. He helped me get into the groove of college because of the intensity of his course but I love it.

Class was fun. Bill is a great at critiquing. He gives great written feedback. Speeches and papers were relatively easy but the tests are horrible. Final had 3 essays along with multiple choice, matching, and short answer; and your timed. a bit too much for an elective and a 1000 class. Get the book!

Class was an excellent experience. My first term back as a responsible adult, and it really helped me get back into the college swing. Learned a LOT and I'm sure it will be of great use in the rest of my course work. Glad to be treated like an adult in a great, interactive atmosphere. (Not so in some other classes.) Thanks, Bill. Sad it's over.

Too bad Bill's teaching GenEd courses. Bill, you deserve REAL students who really want to LEARN. Your the best teached I've ever had. EVER. At ANY level. At ANY college. Great class, despite the other students. Thanks for all you do. Don't let up on these kids. They're handicapped & don't even know it yet. You're doing it right. Don't doubt that.

Took class for concurrent enrollment. NOTHING like high school. Hard but great. Bill taught me a LOT. Thank-you Bill.

Hard class but very useful. Bill has high expectations of students. Stuff I learned there really helped me in my other coursework and in work-work. One assignment actually landed me a job. I am grateful for the experience. Wish he taught more classes I need to graduate.

My favorite teacher ever!!! My husband forced me to take the class, but Bill made it worth it. Hated public speaking. Now I know I can do it!!!

Took 1010, best class I'd had at SLCC. Then took 1020. Even better! Kilpack is awesome. REALLY wants you to learn all that he can stuff into your brain, be it communication, college or just life. HIGHLY recommend him. Fun and furious. Kilpack rocks!

Best class of the semester! Bill is an awesome professor. He applies everything to life and uses excellent examples. We only did a few presentations, but I am so much better at public speaking than before. He tells you exactly what he expects, doesn't give ridiculous assignments and is always willing to help. I will be taking Comm1020 from him now!

class taught how to perfect public speaking and also received great feedback on all assignments. professor is amazing and always encouraged improvement.

DEFINITELY my favorite teacher! He loves to teach public speaking does it in a way that gets his students to love it too. I learned so much from him without really realizing it, and I remember what I learned because I enjoyed it so much! I always recommend his classes to others. If all teachers were like him, then everyone would love learning!

Most important thing I learned from this instructor...He likes to talk about himself..a lot! So just make sure to periodically let him and it seems to help with the grade you receive. Honestly I've heard he is one of the harder comm 1020 instructors just because of the amount of work you have to do. 6 speeches and 2 papers throughout the semester.

Class was hard but I learned a LOT. I'm at Westminster now. Bill's COM class was the ONLY class I took at SLCC that prepared me for the rigor of classes here. Not hard to figure out since Bill is a Westminster grad. Thanks Bill. The hard work you required is paying off.

Every assignment we were given had real world application. I never felt like I was doing busy work. Bill's feedback on assignments also helped me to improve for future class and work experiences. Having a great teacher who makes class interesting and fun to go to really helped me learn. I always learned something new and that was awesome.

Professor was real with the class. He talked to us on a level that made sense and made it interesting to listen to, especially with the stories from his own experience. I was also extremely impressed by the feedback that was given on our assignments. It was very useful and very detailed. Best feedback I have ever received in a class.

Professor Kilpack allowed us to be creative with our subjects in assignments. He gave us a basic guidelinethread and let us write and speak about anything that we could relate to it.

Bill is very good at teaching communication. He will have you give presentations to the class and you will find out things about yourself. I had a HUGE fear of talking in front of people, now I am comfortable. This class helped me tremendously!!! And when he asks if he can pick on you for a second, don't be afraid -- it's a good thing.

The instructor was very knowledgeable, he taught in the way that made class interesting and fun and made you want to be in class everyday. I wish there was more communication classes that I could take from him.

Bill was not only charismatic but knowledgable, which helped me learn and gave me the desire the learn. He kept the class interesting. Every class was different and exciting. He wanted class input and addressed all questions. Test days we knew what was expected and I feel the tests pushed us. He wasn't intimidating but approachable, a rare quality

Instructor was a great guy. Real smart. Very knowledgeable. A lot of experience in the real world. His stories and examples from his experience as an exec and consultant made the class more interesting. Very firm in expectations so I knew what was expected. Feedback on assignments was great. I know I made improvements as the semester progressed.

Lot of problems with the classroom and students having to use their own laptops. Bill went to bat for us to try to get things fixed. At the same time, he used it as an object lesson about having a backup plan. Class was fun, despite the problems. He's funny and killer smart. Has a story to tell for every question to give examples. Recommended.

Class was more complicated than it needed to be. He took a class which should have been simple and turned it into a stress for a lot of the class. He is a REALLY tough grader, and his tests are RIDICULOUS: Two essays, short answers, and multiple choice in 50 minutes. Dang tough. But I am still happy I took it- he is passionate and I learned lots.

Make sure you read the book if you don't read the book you are not going to pass. If you think your studying the right material from the book, try again. Midterm, final test. Group presentation, 2 individuals. I thought I did really good on my papers but I was wrong. Try your best and hopefully you will pass. Don't miss any classes.

Wasnt planning to post. Plan was to see the raves. Then I saw the one from today about barely getting the grade wanted. Grades havent even posted yet. Thats not right. Bills class was life changing for me. Really. Life changing. Then I look and see somebody lying about the instructor. Not right. We talked about digital courage in class. This is it.

Never had a professor so intent on my learning. Had to do things I've never done before, and he was willing to review written work ahead of time, then grade final draft. Way cool. Loved the discussion format. Shaped the class to what we wanted to learn. Great experience. RECOMMENDED.

I love this guy. His class is honestly one of my favorite professors. The work however is beyond what I think should be required for Gen Ed. The worst part about his class is not being able to view your grade online, so unless you get the guts to bring it up with him, you live in fear of what it could be. Beyond that the class can be pretty fun.

Amazing instructor, amazing class. Best I've taken at SLCC. Worst part, other students. My class was mostly 18y.o. and I got so sick of the whining I sometimes had to walk outside. He dealt with it much better than I would have. Honestly, kids, if you shut up and listen, you'll understand. Yes, it's hard. It's COLLEGE. I'm worried for the future.

He was very good at teaching the subject, and he obviously knows what he is talking about. However, for this being a required General Ed course, it was pretty tough. The midterm and final are really tough. He doesn't help you study or tell you what to expect on the tests as well.

On written work, Bill would mark up work early and grade the final product. That was awesome. Feedback was better than any I've ever had. Really tuaght me a lot. Amazing stories for examples of what's in the reading. If you do your reading, exams are pretty easy. Even asked a student to read his midterm essay as an example of what's good. The best.

Prof was excellent. Very clear expectations. Tells exactly what you need to do and why. Used stuff Bill taught in other classes and even was told by my boss she noticed improvement in my work after starting his class. Wish he taught more I need to graduate.

1st semester back in school after a LONG time. Almost dropped class but was too late. I'm so glad I didn't. Bill forced me to suck it up & do my job. His help was great for my other classes too. Learned so much. That hes funny makes it that much easier. Gave me a boost when I needed it. I now understand why I didn't make it last time.

He is an awesome guy, he's a great teacher, and is more than willing to work with you. He uses storytelling to make the lectures more interesting, practice your speech, and give it well, and you should pass the class just fine. Make sure to do the assigned reading, the midterm and final are based off the textbook.

Ramp had me scared of Bills exams. Just finished final. If you read, its a breeze. Great class. Love the discussion format. Awesome lectures with real life/business stories. Love this class.

Loved this class! Hard but I learned so much! Want to take more from Bill. KNows his stuff and pushes you to excel like the best coaches. Thinking about switching major to communication.

Awesome professor! Taught me a lot about the course and how to implement it into my life. A lot of reviews saying he talks about himself a lot but that's the point! It's a communications class. His speeches are easy and so are the tests IF you practice and study. Took him for both of my communications class and I wish I could take him for another!

Really loved class! Taught me so much. Wish Bill taught more I need to graduate. Treated us all like adults, even the ones who think SLCC is just 13th grade. Love this guy! Thanks coach!

Took COM1010 to help my English. After Bills class am taking him again in COM1020. Very good at teaching subject. I have advanced degree in my country. Bill very good.

Love this class!! So many stories to tell. Haven't seen him stumped yet. He tells you exactly what is expected and follows through. No surprises. Even gives tips for what he calls "college survival." RECOMMENDED.

There are a lot of presentations and we got to see different personalities shine through because of them. The instructor made the course fun but applicable. Love it!

Bill doesn't like this when people say it but he looks like Jack Black. He's just as funny too. I've never laughed so hard in a class! I've also never learned so much! His feedback on assignments is amazing. I just had my quarterly eval at work and was told that I was a lot better in a lot of areas. Every one was stuff that I learned in class!

Really loved Bill's class! Learned more than the classes in my major. Felt like that after other GE classes, but this was special. Great real life stories and very clear expectations. Tells you exactly what you need to do on assignments. Awesome!

This is the best class at SLCC. Assignments are real life. Stories are real life. When you get a good grade you know you earned it. I'm proud of the work I did in there.

Great teacher, he knows what he's talking about. He does grade harsh on very specific things. He likes to have lots of class discussions. He loves to talk about himself a lot, but I do like his comments and stories. You will need the book to read for the midterm and final. All the assignments are not too difficult.

Bill is awesome! Gives clear instructions on assignments, gives his cell phone number to reach him, will mark up assignments early. Loved his class. Yes he tells stories. Yes he is in them. They're HIS stories. Yes we had to read our textbook. Aren't we in college now?

Really like this class. Love all the stories from real life. Really makes you think. Gives examples of how to do assignments well. Even let's you turn them in early for editing then grades final product. I plan on taking his COM 1020. RECOMMENDED.

GREAT CLASS! Tells us EXACTLY what to do on assignments. Good videos to go along with reading. You need to DO the reading or you won't do well on the tests. He doesn't lecture. We discuss the reading & he gives examples from his MASSIVE experience in business. Not for whiners though. If you're a whiner, go someplace else.

Bill is like a great coach. He pushed me to do better which helped me in other classes and also at work. I learned so much! He's funny and I love all his stories! Really helped with the reading that was pretty boring at times. Best feedback I ever got on assignments. Best teacher I had at SLCC so far. Strongly Recommended!

I love this class, both 1010 & 1020. He tells us exactly what to expect & sticks to it. He really puts time & effort into grading. No circling prewritten descriptions, every grading sheet is only for that student. He's hard, but Ive never learned so much from anyone else at SLCC. I'm taking him again next semester! So glad there's a 3rd class!

Best class I've had at SLCC. Bill's stories really made class discussion great. Feedback on speeches was the best I've ever had from any teacher ever. He really knows his stuff and is great at communicating it to us. Exams were challenging but he told us to keep up on our reading and it would make all the difference. He was right. Recommended!

8 main assignments, 2 papers, 6 speeches. Midterm and Final were challenging, but keep up with the readings and you will do fine. Bill has tons of life experiences that he constantly talks about, but somehow always brings them into perspective. Grading was clear and he gave you specific things to work on. Great guy through and through. Go to class!

He's a great guy, super interesting and funny! He's a tough grader but he's fair. He actually wants you to succeed and gives great feedback. I didn't even buy the book and I still got As on both the midterm and final. It's more common sense than anything. The papers are the hard part.

It's only midterms but I gotta say WOW. Prof is amazing. My midterm test wasnt great but he had a stu read his essay which really showed me what I did wrong. I never would have thought to do that. Very smart. Very cool. Great class.

I recommend this GREAT class. Bill gives a CHALLENGE so you can change for the better. He gives many assignments (papers, speeches (1 is a group), reading) but clearly gives his expectations. This was his first time teaching this course, so I think it will only get better. It seemed scary at 1st but do your best and you will see great things!

Bill is a good professor, but this class was definitely a challenge! he is a tough grader, but the feedback he gives really allows for improvement! Make sure to thoroughly study the textbook as well, he tests off the information in the textbook!

Such a great class. Really taught me about mass media and how not to be fooled by manipulators. Bill was great, had lots of great stories from his massive experience in media as a journalist and novelist. One of my favorite classes at SLCC so far. Highly recommended!

Great prof and great class! Really learned a lot. Never thought about all the ways that public speaking could benefit me in life! I would recommend Bill to anyone!
