very few assignments, only 2 quizzes, and NO FINAL! He gives you and A or B if you participate in class and improve your writing. EASY!
His classes were boring and tried to improve writing. If you don't want to learn how to be a great writer do not take this class!
Good prof. He teaches well, but is boring at times (how is writing interesting anyway). Any CRW class will be boring but at least Koch trys (We watched Shrek and spongebob). Boring, easy, but he trys and cares.
He is an awesome teacher, who has great tips and really tries to get you to write better. Few assignments, but he is very thought provoking, I would take any other classes of his if i could.

Most worthless class and prof I've ever had, I didn't even do one paper and I still got a B+, if I ever went to class, we had fun laughing at him
He is very helpful and a nice person.
This class taught me a lot about writing. I enjoyed the class and it seemed very easy to me. Koch is very flexible and very easy to talk too. This was for sure one of my favorite classes this semester
The class is really easy but really boring. He asks a lot of questions only he knows the answer to while all the students sit there in confusion. Pretty pointless class if you ask me. If you want to get your money's worth out of the class, I'd find a different prof.
We watch shrek, and he hands out candy- is a pretty easy class, you read a lot about stuff that does not make sense! be prepared to discuss, because he randomly calls on you!
He is an excellent professor. I enjoy being in his class. As long as you participate and improve your writing from when you started, you should do well. He also does good works of Walt Whitman, you should see it whenever you get the chance... Keep up the great work Dr. Koch!
The class is relatively easy and you won't be burdened with a huge work load. Koch is a nice guy and a good teacher, pay attention and your writing should improve. He can be absent-minded at times, but that makes class all the more interesting.Shares interesting passages on liberal education.
Koch is the most frustrating prof you will ever have if you are a good student. Grading is completely subjective and totally inconsistent. He lets messages on this website dictate how he grades in the future. Do not take this class unless you are satisfied with poor teaching and mediocre grades.
Koch is a very approachable prof. and very understanding. If you do things his way you will learn from it.

Koch is a very opinionated prof. He likes to quote himself and uses the phrase mmmmmk to the point you feel like you are in the movie office space. Not a hard class, but lots of busy work. Be prepared to be bored. MMMMMMMMMK
Koch is a terrible teacher. He takes the fun and creativeness out of writing by overanalyzing sentences. Grading is totally subjective and you will have a hair pulling frustrating time in this class. I wouldn't be suprised if he analyzed this sentence. Look prof. Koch i have nominalizations!

longest paper that you'll have to write is 5 pages. reading assignments fairly short. tests/quizzes really easy. he's a really nice guy. checks papers mostly for content and organization. i would reccommend him.
prof. koch *cook* is a nice guy. he's cautious to not take a side on reading materials that are designed to make you think. the writing isn't hard. the class isn't hard. he isn't out to get you. he's out to make you a better writer by thinking about your reader. study hacker 8b : ) and have fun.

Koch is a very inspiring teacher. He has a lot of great tips to become a better writer. He may over analyize a little, but at least it shows that he takes an interest in his students.... Great guy!!!
koch is a great professor. He is patient and if you are late on an assignment he is understanding and give you extra time to finish the assignment. Only 1 research paper and 3 smaller class papers. Great guy!!!!
Relatively easy class but I would not recommend this teacher! His lectures r very pointless and boring, as r his assignments. Subjective grading on asgnmnts...he tries to be cool & come off nice, but fails. Definitely takes the fun out of reading & writing.
This class isn't that bad except for the lectures are EXTREMELY boring and when he calls on you in class you're never quite sure what type of answer he wants so you're usually wrong.
I really didnt think his class was that bad.He gives extra time for assignments if needed,not a whole lot of writing. He tries to be funny but isnt always but it's better than him not having any sense of humor.Overall I liked his class. Do i have any nominalizations prof. Koch?

This was one of the worst classes I have ever taken. Boring to the point of anguish. Find someone else for CRW and save yourself the pain.
One of the most boring classes. Highly advise not to take this class...unless u want to fall asleep...tries to be funny, yet is not funny at all. Takes the fun out of CRW with the writing rules.
At first I didn't enjoy the class, it takes time to get use to his teaching method. He grows on you. As the other comments state, you will be required to write a five page paper on the topic of your choice. You need to be able to use books as sources - welcome to college!
class was easy, espeically since I hate to write. My other friends complained about how many papers they had to do for thier CRW class, they couldnt believe that I only had one paper the entire semester. Kochs a nice guy
He is a horrible teacher! I am good at writing and he never gave me an A no matter how many times I revised! He is so boring, says mmmk a million times, and thinks he is the only person that can be right. I would strongly advise not taking him!! He so full of himself that he actually reads these comments to the class on the first day!!
Great professor... he is nice to talk to and will help you if you need anything... he does great Walt Whiteman reenactments.... take this class, we won't regret it
He is a horrible teacher. He is the only one who can be right when you discuss things. He makes terrible jokes and thinks their funny even though noone laughs. HORRIBLE TEACHER...DO NOT TAKE CRW WITH HIM!!!
If you are looking for a boring one sided teacher with biased results for a grade then take this teacher. If you decide to take him then be ready for a good hour of napping as well. His jokes are dumb, and make sure you go to class because this teacher does in fact play favorites...

Very biased, plays favorites, assignments don't seem relevant to each other, VERY boring, horrible jokes, thinks his class is the most important class ever!!!! Kind of a jerk of he doesn't like you, don't take this class. It's a complete waste of your time! You won't learn anything useful!!!
Very boring lectures, his jokes were also very cheesy. He also seemed to repeat things over and over. Very easy class, an A or B is very achievable.
Koch is a horrible prof! Do not take it with him! he is very unclear with directions and none of your work will be good enough for him! He makes you revise just one paper at least 5 times and will still tell you that it was horrible! If you can take this class with someone else.. DO IT .. it will effect your GPA if you don't.
Worst prof i have had at UNI thus far! Sure he is easy if he likes you. He plays favorites like it's nobodies business. If you don't attend class you fail. Bring a pillow and blanket to take a nap his class is so boring, and talks WAY over your head! Take any other intro to lit class if you can! DO NOT TAKE BILL KOCH!!!
I would NEVER take a class with him ever again! He doesn't explain stuff at all and will change his mind constantly about assignments and the syllabus. He grades inconsistant and is unpredictable what your final grade will be because he doesn't grade on points. He just gives you a grade at the end so you better suck up to him to get your grade.

He taught Humanities this semester and was terrible at it. He turned our class into a lit class. I was very disappointed in his teaching. Often went on tangents about nothing, and it was always the same tangent. Repeats the same jokes too, thats annoying. Try to not take his class!!!
I thought this class was really boring and i didn't learn that much from koch. he just makes up principles and assumptions of students that he wants peopel to know. when i did ask questions he did not explain things clearly and made me even more confused. he tells dumb jokes that he thinks are funny, but they are dumb. overall i am glad i'm done!!!
koch can't teach at all. his lectures are boring and most of the time no one knows what he is talking about. he likes to go off on tangents as well which is annoying. you use his book and a lot of his assumptions because he feels like he is the smartest person on earth and he needs to boost his own ego. DO NOT TAKE CRW with KOCH!!! SWITCH TEACHERS!
very very nice guy if you ask for help and willing to help in anyway but his class was...a very very big waste of time and money. if someone told me they were taking this class i would tell them to run far away really fast.
most boring class i have ever taken..easy class annoying prof, but alot of pointless papers. Koch just rambles on about weird things that dont relate to reading and writing at all. Have one quiz, a midterm, and a final (midterm and final is the same test...) and then like 20 250 word papers.

Professor Koch was really helpful when I needed it the most. He keeps things interesting and has many interesting points of view. I would really recommend taking his classes.
Koch is a good guy but a horrible prof. His instructions are never clear and become even worse after you ask for help. He often rambles on about liberal education and whatnot. He also tries to show us good writing as examples but then says that we shouldn't be writing like that. Would recommend taking this with a different prof.
I got an A in the class, but it was so hard to come up with motivation to attend. He taught me absolutely nothing, biggest waste of my time. He preached about everything and it was all busy work. I really despised this man. Do not take his class!!
He is kinda out there in his teaching but some of his lectures can be intresting. He keeps the class involved even though writting is a boring subject. Hes a Good guy and i would take him again if i had to.
He is one of the best profs I've had. Koch discusses a theory he has, which is actually interesting. He basically tells you exactly what he wants out of the assignments which makes them very easy to complete. You can make conferences and assignments up as well, because he understands that we can't get things perfect the first time.

This is the worst professor I have ever had. he rambles on and tries to talk about theory of writing or thinking. He tries to make connections between things that are just ridiculous. He gives way to much work to the point it interferes with my other class and I am going to lose my scholarship because I could not keep my GPA up becuase of this guy.
WORST prof on campus! He just stands in front of class talking about philosophy and his personal theories-I learned nothing about writing and now I'm struggling in other writing classes. DON'T take Koch!
Worst Teacher ever total waste of time you have to write over 30 essays and have at least one due every class period. But he doesn't count them late if they are late. Which doesn't make a difference because he pulls grades out of thin air. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
Professor Koch is very unique to say the least. He refers to himself as ?Morpheus" and claims his students are his "Neos". The class is easy, but requires you to write a paper each week. His class is very boring and you will not want to attend. I would not recommend him!!
He clearly oves to read and write but he asks that you write an essay for each class (300-500 words) for the first few weeks. He grades the papers really eaily. It's an easy class. He randomly has days where we just listen to music. He's a great guy.
He is engaging and unique. It is nice to have a class where you will actually be challenged and learn something. He will make you a better thinker and writer if you just stick with it. Don't listen to the people who say he is terrible, they would just rather walk in the door and have someone hand them their diploma for showing up.
Koch may not always make sense, but he really is a good teacher. Everyone who says he's bad must have gone in there with poor attitudes just because his teaching style is different. He has a lot of his own theories, but honestly, they made me a much better writer. My thoughts were more in depth and I earned better grades. Work is easy.

He is a very smart man. He is definately unique. While alot of his projects and papers are confuseing at first in the end if you actually try to do more then just pass the class then you can really improve your writing skill. He is almost ALWAYS available for help. if that help makes sense is another issue. ive become a better writer because of him
Absolutely hated this class. I figured coming into this class we would be writing more creatively, or at least about things that were of interest to us. But instead we were reading and analyzing (directly from his own book he wrote...) about things like the writing styles used in the bible. Unless that interests you, I would refrain from taking him
Dr. Koch is a good guy, but his teaching style is too hard to grasp. He teaches you his little philosophies rather than writing. He doesn't have any type of rubric or structure for his papers so he pulls his grades completely out of thin air. I'm a hard working student, and I still advise you not to take this class.

Horrible professor, he is helpful but his assignments are very confusing. He just makes you read a lot of nonsese and at the end you have no clue what you read. Which makes things hard because you have to write an assignment and you cannot even understand the instructions for it. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I am a senior, worst class of my life.
Terrible! Everything in his class is based on his opinion and nothing on facts. He wrote the book you use so it is everything that is gong on in his head. He made up every single activity we did so if you don't get it there is no where to go for help but to him and he is no help. Put everything on the screen and critizes your work in front of class
He wrote the textbook and has his own philosophy of writing. He's a weird guy and the style is confusing... but if you write according to this style, and go to him for help, you can manage an A. Just forget all you've ever learned about writing for one semester and succumb to his methods if you want a good grade. Otherwise look elsewhere!!
I think Dr. Koch is either a love or hate kind of professor. As some one that has taken this class several times I would say that he is one of the easier professors. However his methods can be a little different and if you arnt willing to be open minded the he isn't the professor for you.
He wrote the book, and it's very disorganized. Bouncing from page to page without any sense of direction. All of the assignments are made up by him. His writing style is strange and I would recommend taking this class with another professor. (I had to take it online, in a different city and was often confused!)
The man is completely infatuated with himself. He wrote his own textbook and every assignment for the class comes out of it. When he lectures all he speaks about are his own philosophical ideas. The syllabus was inaccurate and he gave terrible and unclear instructions on the essays. He does not deserve a job in any kind of teaching position.
Not helpful at all. Acts like you're dumb if you don't understand something and makes you figure it out yourself. He always talks about how he wrote the text book we use in class. the textbook is filled with his different philosophies on writing that don't make any sense. I would not recommend taking a class that he teaches.
I took his class online and he knows exactly what responses he's looking for with his assignments, but if you don't put word for word what he expects it's points off. Also when he would respond to my assignments he was kind of rude about it. I can't even imagine taking this class in person with him. I wouldn't recommend online either.
I took the online class. I didn't think it was that hard. Lots of homework and essays from the readings, but the readings were easy. I didn't mind his book. I thought the assignments were easy also. He seemed very nice online.
Mr. Koch's class is short and to the point. Most classes you work on your papers. It is hard understanding where he is going with the class because one day you will be finding subject verb combos and the next writing a research paper and a bibliography. He is there to help if you ask but he is conceded and refers to the book he wrote as a bible.
Professor Koch is a good guy. His textbook is his one love. No final which is nice, but you write lots of papers. You must go by his textbook rules also.
He really cares about his job and is very enthusiastic, but he's old and hates technology and will try to tell you that nothing can beat reading a book. Oh, also, he makes you types these random papers and then doesn't tell you what to do better on or improve. That along with the 25 annotated bibliographies at the end of the semester...
Lots of work to get a B+ in this class. Gives good feedback to improve. Took this class online and he has high grading standards, no way to "sluff off" on the assignments, effort must be there.
Easy grader, willing to give you the chance to turn in assignments late and still get a grade.
Really funny. If you pay attention during class you will get an A. He dropped half of our essays during the semester so he is pretty chill.
Absolutely incredible. I have never had a teacher who has cared so much about English and his students. He invests himself into his lectures and encourages participation (if students want to participate). He pounds the ideas that he tests you on over and over into your head, so that you hardly have to study for his two tests. Incredible experience.
He makes you buy the $100 textbook that he wrote... and it makes ZERO sense. Had to teach myself everything. Terrible class.
Try to take cornerstone instead of his writing and research class. The class lowered my GPA and it didn't even apply to my major. He makes you write papers without explaining them enough and if you don't write exactly what he is thinking you get a low grade. Waste of time in my opinion
First, you have to buy the book HE wrote - which is pretty much all his opinion. We go by his book all year and basically learn about subjects and verbs the whole semester. He also uses work from the class to show everyone what's "good" and "bad" and kind of makes fun of it if you make a mistake, so be ready for that.
ASK QUESTIONS. Sometimes he might assume that everyone knows what he is talking about. Bring paper to every class. Go to his office hours.
Dr. Koch seems like a good and smart man but is very into himself. You have to buy the book that he wrote. He also holds himself and his ideas up very high. He seems to repeat the same things every class and he doesn't always make sense. However, he did help me in writing papers and to thoroughly go through and look into my word choices.
