Bill helped me land my first internship at Q101 radio station in Chicago, hes so supportative and developed personal interests in making sure his students succeed, he rocks!

very good teacher. very personable and easy to talk too. tests are a little hard cause he takes questions from the text but rarely lectures from the text. i got a b.
Very friendly and helpful...The class is no cakewalk by any means...He specifically asks for certain things for class. Work hard and you'll be fine.(Suposedly he grades on a scale where he the top certain percent get As, the next get Bs, the next Cs,...)
Great teacher. Really knows how to relate the material to life and has experience in the real world. The class is not easy by any means though. There is a lot of work and his grading is very strict, sometimes too strict. The class is fun though and you learn a lot.
Wonderful teacher, He grades really hard, and expects alot from you, but he sincerely cares about each student and give 110% effort each day to prepare you. One of the best prof. i've had.
Fantastic teacher, one of the best that UIC has to offer. Really helped me learn how to give better speaches.
BEST professor ever!!!
Fabulous professor. You will definitely work for an A, but you will walk away having learned a lot of valuable information. I am definitely a much better presenter because of his class.
THE BEST BUSINESS PROFESSOR AT UIC. EVERYONE SHOULD DEFINITELY TAKE HIM. NOT AN EASY CLASS, BUT TRUST ME ONCE IT'S OVER YOU WILL UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH YOU HAVE LEARNED ABOUT BUSINESS COMMUNICATION. HE PREPARES YOU FOR THE FUTURE. BEST PROFESSOR AT UIC!!!!!
Excellent teacher! Really knows what he is talking about and keeps class very interesting. One of the best class and teacher i've had at UIC. Really helps each student and gets to know you. Although he grades a little hard and expects a lot from you, this is one class I actually learned something very valuable. Finally good use for my tuition!!!!
Excellent professor, probably the BEST I have EVER had! THe class is somewhat difficult, with a heavy presentation workload, but you learn a LOT. Made many friends at UIC in that class.
He gives you great advice on life itself. He is very picky about the writing though. I think he is a great teacher, it depends on what kind of a student you are. If you care, u'll listen. However, it is pretty difficult to get an A in his class. Just show him that you care and that you are trying.
You learn a ton from this guy but don't expect an A. I barely made a B. he told us himself that he is "anal about grades". Not too much work; couple of presentations and papers. I opened the textbook ones, so the book is useless. TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO LEARN THE IDEAS OF COMM.!!
Do not take. You'll learn a lot of life's valuable lessons, but the grading it UNFAIR. You will only get a good grade if you're a hot girl. Hot guys are subject to approval.
Good professor, knows his materials, you can actually learn from his class. He's pretty strict in the assignments, but as long as you work really hard and show improvement, he can be pretty generous on your final grade. If you attend the lecture and participate in the class, you should get a B with no problem. WORK HARD to get an A!!
This is one of the most knowledgeable and approachable lecturers in the College of Business. Best class I ever took! He prepares you for real business world situations.
Kohler is a very helpful and works hard with you to get a good grade. If you do all your work you should get a good grade. The grading is tough though.
no comment
He is a good teacher but he is not the best. His grading is very unfair and has very bad hearing. He seemed to pretend not to hear what was being said while someone is giving his or her presentation. The grade is basically based on 3 presentations. If he does not like you or shows no interest in you, you are bound to get at least a C in his class.
take another professor. way too much work put into a 200 class! His grading is very tough, let alone he doesnt show you your grades! never returns papers on time, and cancelled one of our biggest projects that couldve boosted our grades. although youll learn a few things, this class has too much demand for your time
Exceptional professor - the cancellation of the last project was the result of the university's decision, not his. Take advantage of his office hours.
He is a great guy. As a professor, he knows what he is talking about. My big beef with him was that we never EVER got papers back. I just felt as though I was simply given a grade for no reason. Yes I got a B but it still bothered me because I feel as if I didn't know why I got a B. I would just recommend another professor.
Extremely helpful. Go to his office hours for help on any paper - it will for sure pay off in the end. He runs grades by how well he likes you, so don't be an ass and be on his bad side.
This guy needs to teach classes up to their level. He tries to go way far beyond as if he is teaching at a graduate level.
this guy knows what he is talking about. he seems like an ****, but if you make a good impression and talk to him outside of class you'll get a good grade. make sure you go to class attendance is major, he takes attendance on the low. use the advice he gives and do assignments exactly how he says. Feedback is non existent so just do good work
Never got paper back and he teached this class as if it were a 300 level class. Grades hard but a good teacher. Dont expect an A its impossible. TAKE ANOTHER PROF. TRSUT ME.
If you want to learn something good from this class, then he's a great teacher in terms of teaching skills. But if you want a good grade, please do no take him. He wants everybody to be a perfect writer and a presenter like he is. Never returns paper and you won't find out ur grade until the end. Evening class is the best.
Kohler was a cool guy...thats it! He is very nice, helpful, and understanding. But he is the hardest grader, and on top of it all will never get you your stuff back ever. I got a C (79.5%) in the class, and I went to his office hours and got a lot of help. He won't budge to round up!
Good teacher, but expects too much from students also is a tough grader
Tough grader, tons of homework, gives a lot of c's
good person!!
He's great!!! I recommend all business students to take him if you want to improve your writing skills. He is tough and will give you a lot of homework but will payoff when it's time to write an email to your manager. He is the nicest professor I've ever had. Take his class!
Assignments are quite demanding, yet valuable for business purposes. I thought about dropping the class hundreds of times, but I'm certainly glad I didn't. In the end, the learning experience is rewarding. Be preapred to put in a lot of effort.
HE THINKS HES TEACHING A 400 LEVEL CLASS. MANY ASSIGNMENTS ARE OUT OF CLASS ACTIVITIES. HAVE FUN...
He rarely ever returns homework. You will go and watch a lot of presentations almost every day. He will tell you to prepare for one thing and wont have you do it the next day. Grading is hard, and the book is never used. You will learn a lot, but it is a difficult class. BE READY FOR LAME HUMOUR EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!
great guy, excellent speaker, very particular about the style of presenting executed in his class; but then again it is college so nothing to complain about there. god forbid we actually took it seriously
I can't stand his lame humor. Oh yeah he is biased and teaches way far beyond the scope of the class. Kohler needs to calm down teaching otherwise he should teach some graduate level classes.
Best business professor at UIC. He prepares you for the real world. Overloads you with work but it's very rewarding.
My favorite UIC professor. Demanding of his students and requires a lot of work. His class teaches you practical tools that can be applied to your career after graduating. A tough but rewarding professor.
Best professor I've ever had. He truly cares about his students. He is a tough grader, but you learn a ton and is well worth putting in the work
Looked like he plays favorites.
He's the kind of teacher who feels important and wants his students to make him feel that way by sucking up. Didn't like him so missed a ton of class and failed to turn in at least four assignments but still somehow got an A, maybe by dressing "nicely" for the final presentation and fliringt the whole last week...so not impossible but a hassle.
Cares about his students. Teaches advice for the real world, but this can make assignments/presentations confusing as to what to include. Lots of lame jokes he wants you to laugh at. Barely hands back homework, won't know grade until after semester is over.
Hahah. I wanna know who the 2 people below me are. Maybe someone from my class this semester? That's too funny. I thought he was cool. I can agree on handing assignments back late or not at all. You never really knew where you stood in the class. But he was very helpful.
Kohler knows what he's doing. If you didn't show enthusiasm, he didn't take care of you. Rightfully so. Great guy, extremely pertinent information for the business world. If you want to succeed, try to master the concepts, it's not hard. Just listen to him, and ask questions. Then you'll have a B without trying.
Have to agree with the comment below, he does play favorites. His assignments are so confusing so go to his office hours (he likes when students visit him). In overall, he is ok but not great.
One of the better professors at UIC. Will get you ready for the business world. One of the more fun classes to be in.
Mr. Kohler is one of the most nice professors I've ever known, but definitely a tough grader. Attendance is mandatory and if you don't miss a class he will add 25 Extra credit points. I really recommend to go see him for one of his Interview report assigment because is a big chunk of the grade.
At first i thought his class was pointless but once we started the interviewing project and final group project I found it really fun. Got to know him really well and can say he is one of my favorite professors. Biased in grading, so make sure he likes you or at least knows your name! If you get on his good side, it can help ur grade tremendously.
he is the most terrible I have ever seen, super bias, you learn nothing from him beside some social etiquette, do not take his class if you are not native american
do not take his class, he do not tell your assignment score at all, he do not even look, he just give u a final grade without any evidence.
Interesting classes, and clearly explains simple steps to improve your writing. However, he is a harsh grader, and WILL find almost all mistakes in papers. He is also poor about returning papers and grades in a timely manner.
Easy class, but only bc he gives so much EC. Doesn't follow the syllabus at all which can be annoying. Difficult to get in contact with bc he's not too good with e-mail/blackboard. Tough grader, but is always willing to meet with you to discuss rough drafts before you hand them in. Don't bother buying the book its pointless. Nice guy overall.
He is not a good professor. You never get a feedback and he never follows the syllables. It's a MESSY! Don't expect to understand why you got a C. Don't take him!
This class is difficult and you will have to put in a lot of work, but it is very rewarding. I learned more in this class than I have in any other class. He isn't very organized sometimes and can take a while to hand back assignments. He also doesn't really follow the syllabus. Overall a smart and great guy, both in and out of the classroom.
Mr. Kohler is BY FAR the best teacher I've ever had at UIC. Textbook use is very minimal, so just share with a friend. His lectures are so helpful and he teaches in such an entertaining way. As long as you go to his office hours, you'll get an easy A. He really wants you to succeed and you will definitely learn something by attending his class.
Great professor. He truly has the passion for what he does. His goal is to help all the students. He does assign quite a load of work, but it is rewarding. You will learn a lot of helpful information in that class.
Professor Kohler is by FAR the best professors I have had at UIC.He teaches you beyond the classroom and goes above and beyond to assure you succeed. He considers all of his students his children and truely cares about you and your well being. I could go on and on about how amazing Kohler is so if you get the opportunity take his class!!
Professor Kohler is a great teacher who actually cares about his students. I found him to be very helpful with any questions I asked regarding assigned work. Some of his assignments such as the speeches and papers do take some work, but if you put in the time and effort, you should be fine. Overall he is a fantastic professor.
Kohler is a terrible teacher. He is pathetic.
Mr. Kohler was by far and away my best teacher and most interesting class at UIC last semester. The person below must of never went to class as attendance is mandatory. You do have to write a lot, but if you write well this should not be an issue. If you want to improve your writing, however you will never get anything back from him.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. I looked forward to going to his class. He is so friendly and open to his students. He will stay hours after class to just have a conversation with a student. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!
BEST.PERSON.IN.WORLD. If you show him you care, he will respect you more. Tough teacher but the experience acquired far outweighs the work! LEARNED SO MUCH FROM HIM, far beyond business "stuff". I'd also ask him for his chocolate chip cookie recipe. To die for.
Greatest professor I've ever taken at UIC. I have learned so much from him. His lectures were interesting and I enjoyed every class. His handouts and book are extremely helpful when doing writing assignments. Yes, there is a ton of writing involved but then again it IS a BA class. Never posts grades but if you care, it's an easy A. THANKS, KOHLER.
He was one of my best professors. I learned a lot!!!
This teacher is the most confused and hopeless teacher at UIC. As well as most unorganized. You turn in multiple papers and quizzes that you never receive feedback on. You never know what grade you are getting in the class. I received a C and when I emailed him about it, he never responded or gave me feedback on why I got a C. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
I took the class with high hopes. Heard he was a good teacher. He appears to know his stuff but is a ridiculous grader. Actually he never graded anything of mine. At the end of the semester he had one of my papers graded. AFTER I TURNED IN THE FINAL. I got a C on that paper and got a C in the class. All my other papers were better though. AVOID!!!
Prof Kohler is the BEST teacher I have had at UIC so far(I've been here a while). He wants you to do well and takes time to understand your situation. Plus we got Giordanos at the end of the semester!
All the rumors are true! You will not know your grade.. You will have to do 90-sec presentation on yourself and 15-min presentation as part of the final. You will have to schedule two business meetings with company managers for projects. If you are a procrastinator, you will do poorly.. Change your ways before taking this class.
Mr Kohler is the best! Take him!
Cons: Does not keep up with grades, stick to the syllabus or announce due dates. I was clueless on my grades up until the very last week, after the class had ended. The Pros: You will actually improve your writing. You sit around and talk a lot. He can be funny and interesting. I got a B, most of the people I asked did too.
Professor Kohler is great. He's enthusiastic and helpful. It's really a great class to attend. BUT he does not keep up with grades. The good thing is, since deadlines are pretty loose, you can turn in/revise assignments pretty late without any issue.
The best professor of the UIC. He inspires you to learn the business communication to succeed in your whole life. Follow the directions and attend every class to earn an A! I wish I could take other classes with him.
He is a great teacher! he wants all his students to succeed.
By far the best Professor I have taken in college!! (I'm a senior) He pushes you to improve your writing for a business setting. He is an amazing person! He makes class interesting, will make you laugh and will be there for advice. People who complain about their grade must have earned it, he teaches business writing not composition 101! Take him!
He is the best professor any one will have because his teaching style is so good that you don't want miss his any of his class sessions . The best class ever.
He is a good professor, and if you wanna learn how to write take him. But he is a super hard grader and nitpicks a lot. Was not the biggest fan of him, but he is a nice guy.
MR. KOHLER IS AN AMAZING TEACHER WITH VERY UNIQUE CONNECTION WITH HIS STUDENTS. HE WANTS EVERYONE TO SUCCEED AND HE IS ALWAYS FINDING TIME TO HELP YOU AND ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS. TAKE HIS CLASS AND YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID!!!! T H E B E S T !!!!!!!!!!
You'll get out of the class what you put in. Was very helpful when I went in for writing help! My favorite Professor so far.
Professor Kohler is the best teacher I've had so far. If you take him, you WILL become a better writer. He loves to push his students passive aggressively to get better. Very kind and motivational guy.
He's a really great professor. My writing improved from day one. I learned so much from him, not only about writing, but also life lessons. Take his class because you'll learn more than just writing tips.
Can not describe how great this man is . His lectures are still echoing in my head. Never a dull moment. I wish he taught other classes.
Not only a great teacher he is also a human with a big heart. Helpful through out the semester. Always available whenever you ask him. He made classes so interesting and fun i did not miss single class. definitely recommend him. THE BEST PROFESSOR YOU WILL HAVE..... JUST TOO GOOD.....
Easy A just make sure you put in the effort and see him in office hours!
Kohler was definitely one of my favorite professors. Take him if you get the chance. This is a class that you'll actually get something out of. I learned about writing and business speaking -- and about life, in general. Great guy and if you put in the effort you will do well.
Professor Kohler is unlike any other professor I have come across. The class is quite intensive but that is only because he really knows his stuff and wants to pass that knowledge on to this students. I thoroughly enjoyed taking the course with him! He is kind, funny, helpful, and so much more.
He's a cool guy. Very non-academic which is what I like about him. Can be nit-picky in grading if he grades your assignment. My only gripe is that I wish he was a little more organized and that he graded the assignments promptly so that we can have some feedback. You'll have no idea what your precise grade is the whole semester. But I like him!
Had him sophomore year. His lectures do help you get an idea what to expect later on the real business world. His comments on the memos are really helpful. The only thing I hated was filming a video for the personal website.
Took his class and he is the most overrated business professor at UIC . Doesn't post grades until 3 weeks before the semester ends. Gotta hound him to know where you're standing, I did that and realized that I wasn't one to mess with. For every assignment that's not graded, hound him til he puts it in. Put him in his place and he'll cooperate.
Great teacher, nicest guy!
Mr. Kohler is a wonderful professor and it is clear that he loves his job. He is very enthusiastic and truly wants his students to learn. There is some group work but the assignments were fair. He extended the due date for a paper because of midterms and students were stressed. He is very knowledgeable and approachable. Great guy, take his class!
Amazing professor. Assignments took a bit and the due dates would be all over the place. Write down lecture notes for blackboard quizzes which are challenging. Final project for finals grade was fun and not difficult.
Professor Kohler is a JOKE! I'm surprised he is allowed to teach. He has never graded any assignments on times, he never uploads the weeks assignment on time, and when you email him to confirm something, he is vague and gives a half-assed response. It enrages me that he put so little care into our course.
End of an era. Mr. Kohler is going to retire this semester and I am upset. He is very kind but can seem rude at most times. He will criticize your work to the point where it can be embarrassing. He was very down to earth and very inspiring and he has so much advice to give!
