By far the best teacher I have had at Northeastern thus far. He is a bit of a hard grader, definitely not that bad, but makes up for it in his sense of humor, personality, and knowledge of the field.
great guy, easy to work with. just keep up on the work and youll be fine.
Great Req. Class, If you're interested in production, Lancaster has real world experiance, so try to get in his class. He's a great guy, very funny. Just take notes on his lectures, as that's what's on the quizes.
very interesting and an easy grader
Awsome guy one of the best teachers I have had at NU. Relaxed and funny. Has great stories to tell and always wants to hear your stories. Quizez are easy, he goes through the book and tells you what to study and what you should know.
He's one of the coolest teachers I've ever had. His class is so laid back yet I feel like I've learned so much. As long as you keep up with the assignments and have fun stories to tell in class, you'll get an A. He's funny and has great stories! He tells dirty jokes!!
Great lecturer that has great connections. He helped me get an internship before I went on co-op to get more experience for a better co-op position.
very good prof
He was really knowledgeable about the subject and was really fun to talk to. he was one of the cooler teachers i have ever had. just remember to figure out his grading system early in the semester, it will help your grades on papers - i still have not figured it out though.
Awesome guy, hilarous teacher, and very knowledgable. This guy has it all, he has great connections and you learn from his stories in class. Unless you really mess up you'll get at least a B in his class. I enjoyed the class and love him as a teacher.
really nice guy but isn't really all that challenging...has some great stories to tell because he has worked in the field but wouldn't recommend him if you are really interested in really getting a grasp on communication studies at the intro level....also make sure you understand the way he grades!
bill is awesome!!! i'm taking as many classes with him as possible..he's very understanding and willing to work with you on anything. he's got a really good sense of humor as well.
I got the feeling that he hadnt put much time into planning the Intro class.Really funny guy! the class seemed like a bit of a joke (although with manditory attendence), but maybe that was because it was the 101 class. he has the knowledge and experience that might be good for higher level classes.
Lancaster is a blast! He's extremely personable, funny, and really gets to know you. class is pretty easy overall, just a few projects that require some work, but the quizes were pretty hard. Do the readings. Can't get over how much experience he brings to the class and his funny stories.
Lancaster is a cool guy. I would highly recommend taking his classes!!!! I know I had fun. He keeps it intersting. There were some sections I thought i would hate but I still ended up enjoying them. Get involved in class discussions and do not skip on the day of quizzes cuz' there are no makeups! Have Fun!!!
Great class great professor. Do the readings and its a done deal
Lancaster is awesome...I'm taking as many classes with him as possible. He makes the class fun and interesting!!!
Awesome awesome teacher who knows such a great amount of stuff about the industry. He's hilarious and brings in so much real life stuff into the class that his stories never get boring. He doesn't lecture so it's more about an interactive class so it's awesome. His classes are great so i advise you take as many as possible!
Most overrated professor ever...everyone said how great he was. He was so boring and the class was so unstructured. He likes to show clips of himself on TV. I think he's a bad teacher and the class wasn't fun...but not too much work overall. He's lazy, so not too hard of a grader. Quizes are hard though b/c they ask wicked random questions.
Hes a great guy and if you take more than one of his courses you will see a pattern, a pattern of they are all the same class. Great class but try to only take one of them unless you are into not learning much new stuff. Great discussions if you get good people in it with you too.
He is just a super-duper guy. Take this class. No no, seriously...DO IT.
TAKE any class you can with this guy. He's funny and really interesting. He's one of the few CMN professors who has some sweet real word experience. His classes are always enjoyable and you wont be falling asleep...easy grader too!
I loved this teacher. If you are a comm major, you should take a class with him. However, if you take more than two classes with him, you notice he teaches a lot of the same material, I even noticed he repeted assignments, which I didn't respect. That aside, he's totally fun and funny and worth taking a couple times.
Easy quizzes as long as you pay attention to him, attendance not mandatory, interesting class, easy going, easy grader, take him if you want a good grade
Such a nice guy. He is funny, listens to what anyone has to say during class, and has interesting discussions. If you have a chance to take one of his classes, do it!
Lancaster is a fool who doesn't plan ahead and can't write a syllabus let alone follow one. He has no plan for any of his classes, will randomly give out quizes, and assigns a bunch of work at the end of the semester when he realizes he has nothing to grade you on. Unless your interested in getting into tv of film production dont take this class.
Lancaster is a very likeable guy. However he is a terrible professor who can't seem to plan ahead. His assignments are easy and the quizes are only hard because he asks random questions. If your looking for an easy class to bs through this is great. But if your looking to learn something new try another professor.
Prof. Lancaster was a decent professor with years of experience in the field. I wasn't wildly interested in the material, but Lancaster was very knowledgeable and reasonable. Quizzes and assignments were pretty easy, but often assigned last minute.
Incredibly nice guy, but has no idea how to plan a syllabus, plan a class, or teach a class really. He makes you scratch your head at why you're actually paying for the service he provides. Easy class, but a waste of time
Really nice guy! Does not know alot about teaching but has alot of real world expierence. Very easy to do well in his classes. Quizes can be tricky-- does not read most papers. Can learn alot from him if you choose to.
I have learned more in Professor Lancaster's comm. classes than any other. His immense experience in the field and the renowned speakers he brings in, really give you a great perspective of the media "industry." His classes are lecture based but leave room for informational, entertaining anecdotes and class discussions. He will help your career.
Prof. Lancaster brings years of experience to the table and you would be a fool not to take advantage of that. He enhances the classroom experience by bringing in industry professionals who share their stories. The projects give you an accurate idea of what its like to work in the entertainment industry. Put the work in and you will be rewarded.
This is the first class i've taken with Lancaster, and i am proud to say its been the best class i've ever taken at Northeastern University. He is down to earth, smart, enjoyable to listen to, very interesting and has been around the block, so to speak. His passion is producing and is extremely helpful. I highly recommend his classes!!!
Prof Lancaster is by far the most enthusiastic and passionate professor I have encountered. He cherishes his students, is always supportive and gladly shares his experience and knowledge in an energetic, engaging and fantastic way. He's always understanding of students' needs and encourages inspiring, lively debates. A genuinely extraordinary person.
Bill is by far the best prof I have had at NU. His lectures and assignments are clear and informative about the media field. He is extremely knowledgable of various aspects of TV and production and has worked everywhere in TV.I have taken 2 of his classes and I am truly disappointed that I can't take any more classes with him.Don't miss out!
William "Bill" Lancaster has by far one of the most enlightening professors at Northeastern University. His work speaks for itself, and he always makes it a point to educate he students with a very hands on approach. I have had him for 3 classes in my 4.5 years, and he is one of the best the University has to offer. He knows his craft!
Professor Lancaster is a fair teacher, very nice and clear. make assignments and class interesting. Goes over everything and makes the most out of it. Recommend to take his class with him- very kind!
Professor Lancaster is great; I recommend him to my friends. The only way to fail his class is by not going or not doing the assignments. He has a great deal of experience in the industry. He brings in industry professionals as speakers, which is invaluable. He is the kind of professor that truly wants to see his students succeed, which is rare.
For those interested in gaining professional insight into the inner workings of the entertainment industry, Lancaster is your guy. Given his extensive career in TV & documentary filmmaking, Bill teaches real-life, practical tools of the trade. A true producer at heart and one hell of a guy. Best for those interested in/or going into TV/Film Ind.
Lancaster is awesome! His class supplemented by videos and speakers so its different almost everyday. It's really easy to take notes because he puts everything in lists. The final project is one of the most interesting in Northeastern: Pitch a television show. It's a cool class, take it!
Broadcasting with Lancaster was a pretty solid class. His lectures were not bad because he usually had TV clips mixed in and he gets to point without rambling like most comm profs. The class is about TV so its pretty easy to pay attention, so its worth it to participate. He's a nice guy, take him if you can.
Lancaster is a great professor definitely one of my favorites at Northeastern. His lectures are really clear and he's always willing to clarify the things you might not understand in office hours. The degree of difficulty of the work is very reasonable and he makes the material really interesting and engaging. Take this class!
I'm not a communications major, but took broadcasting management & programing and really liked it. If I had another elective left, I'd deff take another Lancaster class. Also no textbook to buy-epic win!
Professor Lancaster is a tremendous asset to the Communications Dept as well as to the entire University. His classes give information applicable to jobs in our field, something many courses in Comm lack. This professor will go out of his way to help students learn and grow into media professionals. I would recommend this course to all students.
If you want to learn about the industry from a true professional who has expert experience in the field this is the course to take. The assignments are interesting and your final project is an accomplishment you could bring up in an interview!
Prof Lancaster is without a doubt one of the best professors I have had throughout my college career. If your goal is too eventually work in the entertainment industry on the creative/production side, he is the perfect teacher to have. He has the experience and the knowledge to answer any questions you may have and the class is alo of fun as well.
Great teacher. Taught us a lot and feel like I learned from his stories from experience working in the industry. Great guy, definitely a great class to take!
One of the best most dynamic, passionate and real professors I have ever had. Not only a great professor he is talented and experienced in the industry he is teaching. This is a rare combo! I took two of his classes at once and he kept every class entertaining! He exceeded my expectations. Don't leave Northeastern without taking one of his classes!
With decades of experience in TV and film producing, Bill brings industry knowledge and a realist perspective to the table. He's invaluable because he's lived it; from producing for the Montel show to grant writing for documentaries. He'll just as easily talk about his successes and blunders & this makes him empathetic to students eager to learn.
Lancaster really enjoys teaching and Makes sure the students understands the topic and has all of us engage by putting us in groups he is a great teacher and I would recommend him to all Students
You will leave Mr. Lancaster's class with a thorough understanding of the entertainment industry and how businesses manage productions from start to finish. If you're lucky, he will take you under his wing as a production assistant. Ask him about his time producing reality TV- he has many stories to share.
I never really write on this website but I had to write about Lancaster. Hands down the best professor I've ever had. As long as you show up to class (and you'll want to because it's really interesting) and participate, the class is a must take. Any class with Lancaster is a must take. He's a legend and knows his stuff.
Lancaster has definitely been the best and most influential professor I’ve had at Northeastern! His lectures are fantastic and he has so much experience! I especially enjoyed bus. of entertainment not only because of the VIP speakers, but also since it was so interesting to get their perspectives from the industry. Take all of his classes!
Best teacher I've ever had. If you show him you care, he will do everything to help you in and out of the classroom. He takes a genuine interest in his students future's. Amazing teacher. No homework, except you have 4 responses due at the end of the semester, and a project due. Easy class and very interesting! 100% take it!!
Mr. Lancaster is an AMAZING teacher! I highly recommend taking his class. Mr. Lancaster has restored my faith in academia and teachers that care. His lessons are well planned out, has exercises, he also inspires you with websites of what designers are creating. if this is your first design class this is this is the one you want to take
Bill Lancaster is the example of an exceptional teacher. Never frustrated by any questions concerning topic, doesn't mind repeating, loves what he does and is vested in his students. If you take him, you'll not be disappointed.
Bill Lancaster's class was easy if you participated and he liked you. If you are shy and do not contribute, beware. The lectures did not have much structure and he talked about himself a lot.
Lancaster has great connections in every part of the entertainment industry, and he's not afraid of asking them to come in and be a guest lecturer (they're cynical if informative on their fields). However, he's not decisive on assignments (we were supposed to have five papers, but only did two), and the final project was unclear all around.
Professor Lancaster is an amazing professor... He's an industry veteran with plenty of connections, and he really cares about his students and what he does. If you put in the work he will help you with anything, and he's been an incredible help to myself and other students starting out in the entertainment industry. You won't regret class with him!
Quizzes are really hard because he picks random questions to ask during the quiz. Lectures are fine and brings in people, but there is no feedback throughout the semester. Never really seemed prepared for class and lectures were boring. Never got grades back the whole semester either. Pick a different class
Bill is a really interesting guy with a lot of experience in the entertainment field. His grading is solely based on participation; if you talk enough in class and he knows who you are you get an A; if you don't, you'll get an automatic B at best regardless of your grades on other assignments.
Course teaches students the skills producers use everyday in the TV/film industry. Bill connects students to professionals in the industry, encourages students to create their own content, and does everything he can to support the projects of his future media makers.
Cares greatly about the success of his students, and is more than willing to give feedback and answer questions. Class is very interesting and engaging. Very knowledgeable about the entertainment industry, and a great resource for someone looking to pursue this career path.
Professor Lancaster is one of my favorite professors in the Comm Department as well as Northeastern. He has so much experience in the producing industry and gives you the opportunity to learn what YOU want when taking this class. Great feedback and great opportunity to gain hands on experience. He's also hilarious -- very understanding.
Bill is the most passionate instructor I've encountered at Northeastern. A beacon of light with a boatload of experience in media and comms professionally and academically. The engaging and timely material selected for his courses reflect the wide array of his expertise; cultivates a holistic learning experience. Encourages creative collaboration.
Bill Lancaster was the best professor I've ever had at Northeastern. He not only does an amazing job teaching, but he also puts in so much heart and really gets to know his students. He's had an amazing career in the entertainment industry and shares his own examples with us. He's truly inspiring.
Professor Lancaster is an incredible teacher. He is an expert in the producing field and he is so excited to share his knowledge/craft with all of his students! Not only is he intelligent, he is funny and keeps the class both engaging and hands-on. I loved how he brought in guest speakers to the course, it added so much to my experience in class.
Lancaster is the man. He knows so much about the film industry and it is awesome to have a real producer as your professor. He offered extra credit to us and he is really reasonable about the coursework. There are a few papers in this class, so make sure not to procrastinate before they are due.
Professor Lancaster is awesome! You HAVE to take his class if you are interested in film/the entertainment industry. A true asset to NU.
Bill is unlike any professor Ive ever had. Theres some reading, a few papers and usually a group project, but hes funny, caring and makes all his lectures interesting and engaging. If you like television, film and production dont miss out on any of his classes!
Bill is a great professor! I would recommend him to anyone interested in film or production. He is an actual producer so he has a lot of real world knowledge. The majority of your grade is based on the project at the end of the semester, and there is also a paper due at the end of the semester too. Not terribly hard but would definitely recommend
Bill is a really funny, friendly, and engaging guy. He has a lot of experience in media/film and can translate that. Always talks about interesting topics in class. Brings in a lot of guest speakers/professionals. Majority of grade comes from a few quizzes and a group business project.
Great guy with a great personality. He makes a lot of jokes in class. Majority of the grade for this course was from quizzes and a final paper. The quizzes sometimes were a bit difficult because they asked very specific questions about guest lectures and articles. The class itself is extremely discussion based. Highly recommend a class with him.
Nice guy but doesnt seem like theres a lot of care or effort in his course. If you wanna talk about Netflix and his career and follow some odd rules for occasional assignments, go sign up.
Bill is a great guy and teacher. Class is always fun and engaging thanks to him. Bill provides a unique perspective from his own professional experience as a producer/filmmaker. He also brings in several notable speakers to further enrich the learning experience. If you engage with the material and lectures, you will both learn and succeed.
Very fun projects in this class, the final one being a very satisfying culmination of what you'll learn. Bill is great to talk with inside and outside the classroom. He likes to offer extra credit opportunities in the form of helping him out with video shoots, like interviews and panels, which are great ways to get some hands-on production skills.
Bill Lancaster has a ton of practical experience as a producer in film and television. That kind of knowledge is invaluable in a professor, especially if you want to go into the industry. Bill will introduce you to some really cool players in the industry as guest lecturers or video. His lectures are succint and relevant. Great course projects.
Prof Lancaster is an amazing professor His lectures are very interesting with lots of discussion. He always wants to know your opinion and likes class participation. There are no textbook or exam. Readings are easy. Projects are creative and fairly straightforward. I'd definitely take his class again. It was fun and I learned a lot about producing.
I loved taking this class with prof Lancaster. His lectures were very interesting and covered a diverse set of topics. No textbook needed. Readings are pretty easy. He is well connected and gets many guest lecturers from different fields of entertainment to share their expertise on a topic. He does not give homework but expects participation.
I took Professor Lancaster's class and learned a lot about the in's and out's of the entertainment business. He's very enthusiastic to listen to you aspirations and gives insightful advice on how to achieve your goals. He also goes out of his way on bringing professional experience to class, would definitely take one of his classes again!
Great final project, engages with students, encourages discussions. Only issue for me was his quizzes asked what I thought were insignificant memory questions. Very understanding when I had a few deaths and needed an extension. Very kind, funny man. Shares his professional experience, asks about your pro experience.
Prof Lancaster curated a welcoming class environment. I learned a lot about the entertainment industry from both him and my peers. However, his deadlines sneak up with little warning beforehand. His quizzes are created from vague facts from the readings. Be prepared to read the readings and spend a lot more time than necessary on a comm elective.
Prof. Lancaster was great! I'm not majoring in communication or entertainment but his lectures and the interviews we watched in class were inspirational and actually interesting. Attendance is mandatory and the 4 quizzes and one essay essentially make up your entire grade but the class itself was great.
Bill wants the best for his students and really wants them to grow an interest and appreciation for the industry. He is very kind and will always be open to talking with you. The class is certainly challenging as tests cover small details and the course is centered around a large, involved group project; however, in the end it is very rewarding.
Professor Lancaster is a great teacher. He brings his life passion to this lecture-based class, and curates an incredible experience for those passionate about the media industry. He cares about his students professional endeavors + brings in many guest speakers! The class centers on a large group project, take it seriously and don't wait till end.
Professor Lancaster is good! This class consisted of writing a screen play in groups (worth 55%), participation (20%), and quizzes (25%). The quizzes are difficult as they come from past student work, 1+ hour videos, and readings. Additionally, the feedback provided can be confusing, but is helpful. I took this course to fulfill the EI requirement.
I highly recommend Professor Lancaster's class. He's a passionate and hilarious teacher who is excited to share his vast knowledge of the entertainment industry with his students. This class is great for any student interested in the film/TV industry, regardless of their course of study. As an MSCR major, I found the course to be very rewarding.
Prof. Lancaster is one of the kindest and most knowledgeable teachers I've had during my time at Northeastern. With tons of industry experience and personal anecdotes, he embeds plenty of real world examples in the concepts behind the business of entertainment. He genuinely cares about your individual creativity and fosters such a fun environment.
Professor Lancaster's class was by far the most relevant class I took as a COMM/MSCR major. The quizzes are challenging and you have to memorize little details from class materials. We had to do the final project individually, but he was always happy to help. If you're interested in the topic the class is lots of work but very rewarding.
Idk why people are glazing this professor so hard. I'm not even done with the course yet but I'm so livid right now I had to come on here and do a rating. Oh brother, this guy stinks! Actually worst prof I've ever had. He has a NO LATE WORK policy. Gives no extensions. Terrible about attendance. This class is not worth it!
Prof. Lancaster is a great professor! He brings in guest lecturers who are always happy to chat with students and share what their careers are like. There are multiple group projects in this class but each one was unique and an awesome opportunity to be creative and make projects that are really interesting. Overall a great class. Highly recommend!
The guest lectures are a standout, they're always incredibly engaging and highly relevant to the course material. It's clear that a lot of thought goes into making the lectures both informative and applicable. I learned so much and felt connected to real-world examples. Highly recommend taking his class!
Very enlightening class— the guests are incredible and Bill has great real world connections that prove invaluable to your learning. Tough grader and highly specific on what he wants, but that's representative of entertainment as a whole so very prepatory. Learned so much from his class and was one of my favorites of the entire semester.
A class that truly prepares you for the real world industry— very involved and has you create a great final product for the portfolio. Content was highly informative and well curated to the audience and his care for student success shines. Highly recommend!
Bill is very passionate about his classes. Very accommodating and the class is not too difficult. 4 quizzes, attendance, and one paper. If you are sentient you will receive an A.
