THIS PROFESSOR IS EXTREMELY COOL AND EASY....IF YOU FAIL THIS CLASS IT IS BECAUSE YOU DID NOT SHOW UP OR YOU DID NOT STUDY.....HE WILL GIVE YOU THE TEST BEFORE YOU TAKE IT YOUR JOB IS TO REMEBER IT...FUNNY GUY...VERY HELPFUL....
THIS PROFESSOR IS THE WORST EVER....YOU WILL GET AN A ON THE FIRST TEST BUT YOU WILL FAIL THE REST...HE EXPECTS YOU TO MEMORIZE TWO HOLE PAGES OF NOTES FOR ONE STUPID QUESTION...DO NOT TAKE HIM..STAY AWAY....
okay seriously he's amazing he tries to work with you and tries to help you out I don't know what those people are complaining about their obviously not smart because his test where easy and if you ask him to clarify information he will go above and beyond. I did very well but I also made sure I understood the material and asked a lot of questions.
Really cool professor and very clear lectures. He'll go above and beyond to make sure you understand the material. Take him!!! He'll give you the questions and answers as a study guide before the test. His class rocks...you'll have fun!!!!
Very humorous attitude, interesting, VERY CLEAR expectations, tells you exactly what you need to know and gives you the test as a study guide. Only way to fail is by not showing up and not listening to lectures! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Wish more teachers taught like him!!
The negative reviews for this professor are probably from students who are not at a college level. You will actually learn in his class. There are no multiple choice test questions, so expect to actually study. Professor Sanders is really passionate about this subject which makes for an interesting class. Students need to realize that this college
This guy expects to much for this class. if You like to do short answer test than he the right teacher for you. thinks he funny but is not. surfs down
If u are good at memorizing word for word notes than take this class. Professor William Sanders expects u to learn the material but actually wants u to answer his midterm word for word. Also has a paper assingment "Project" and a cumulative Final
Do not take this professor because you will have to memorize alot of notes in full detail to get the full credit!!!
Prof. Sanders is one of the BEST professors this school has. He knows his stuff and expects the students to know it too (very reasonable since this is college!!) If you're not much of a short-answer test taker then dont take him. If you want to learn and are willing to put forth time and effor I highly recommend him!!
One of the better professors I've taken in a while. Extremely knowledgeable of his subject, and is hell bent on making sure you learn your stuff too. Granted, his class demand lots of studying memorizations, but this is college so suck it up.
Dr Sanders will help you if you ask. He wants you to learn so there are no multiple choice or true false. His exams are all essay...detailed essay. But I recommend him. You will use what you learn in 303 in 492. Trust me, you will appreciate how much he asks you to know when you get to 492.
You will need to memorize in detail b/c his midterm and final are 15-20 essay questions and he expects a long paragraph answer. I happen to be really good at memorizing, so I got an A but many ppl in the class had difficulty..not necessarily an easy A class.
Makes you memorize, NOT LEARN. I can regurgitate what you said, don't mean a thing.
Prof. Sanders is a great teacher...granted he makes you memorize word for word for the tests, it's a sinch if you actually take the time to study. If you're not good at memorizing things verbatum then he's not the prof. for you...I got an A but I studied until I had a headache and my hand went numb...No paper to do, 2 tests and a final. Take him if
Doctor Sanders will make you learn. None of his tests are multiple choice or true false. You'll actually have to elaborate your answers in short essay form. Definitely a college level class. Take him only if you are serious about your major. Really challenging but in the end you'll be glad you took his class.
One of THE BEST professors I have had at this university! I actually want to learn something, not just get answers to test questions. If you are really serious about learning, then Dr. Sanders is great for you! His test questions are essay format, but you retain so much information!
Extremely difficult, makes you memorize exams, some short answers, some essays. Very condescending, picks on people at random and asks them questions. Very negative class enviornment, thinks we are all stupid, laughs at the class. Tought grader
Dr. Sanders does three essay tests whereas answers must be verbatim to notes. Plan on memorizing short answers! This class was extremely helpful however, because you NEED to know why crime is committed and what theories support such claims.
Do take this class if you are not good at memorizing word for word, it is required for the tests. Midterm and Final are very hard! He makes you feel stupid and loves to embarrass students. He is strict on his dumb rules. Hard grader, waste of time. You learn nothing by memorizing his power points. Avoid any of his classes if possible.
Do NOT take this class if you are not good at memorizing word for word, it is required for the tests. Midterm and Final are very hard! He makes you feel stupid and loves to embarrass students. For the most part, he is a great professor. In order to pass/receive a decent grade, you have to study! However, I think he can be too strict in class. If someone wants to bring bottled water, coffee etc. it shouldn't be a problem. He's a bit too controlling, which can be annoying. He would be awesome if he wasn't on a power trip all the time.
This is an amazing professor. One of the best i've ever had. All these people complaining and whining should not be in universities. You come to learn and be intellectually challenged not to earn easy A's. This class is tough, but then again, competing in the workforce is tough.
Pretentious, more a researcher than a teacher who tries too hard to relate and thinks memorization = learning. Too bad you're forced to choose between him & Baskin, two of the worst there are, for 303.
I agree that this professor just requires to memorize his power points and as a student you really do not learn anything by just memmorizing power points word for word
TEACHER IS GREAT! HE LOVES TO TEACH. A LOT OF MEMORIZING FOR TEST BUT IT IS COLLEGE WHAT DO YOU EXPECT!
Terrible teacher!! Take Herz for Juv Justice if you can. Not even writing like I got a bad grade (got an A). But he doesn't seem like he cares about the students at all.
This guy knows his material, he really does but his teaching style did not help me learn the material. For all those considering taking this class just expect to memorize 15-20 paragraphs of information only to be tested on 8 of those. He also requires a 1000 word paper.
I could tell you that Sanders is tough, but I'm sure you all know that. As far as what I learned in the class, it really was a lot of information. Studying for his exams can be nerve wrecking, seeing as there are many points to be covered, but 2/3 of the final exam are based of the first two exams. As far as his attitude, I felt a bit insulted. It seriously felt like he was talking down to his students. Overall, you'll learn a lot, have some laughs and study hard...
Like someone said before, memorization doesn't mean squat. No challenge for me, just tedious. The guy shouldn't be teaching, he hasn't got a clue how to effectively relate to students!!
DR. SANDERS IS BY FAR THE MOST EASIEST TEACHERS AT CSULA. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TWO TESTS, BOTH ESSAY AND MEMORIZE THE ANSWERS WORD FOR WORD. NOT HARD AT ALL ESPECIALLY IF YOU BEGIN STUDYING FROM THE START. I GOT AN A BUT YOU HAVE TO BE AN IDIOT NOT TOO. FUNNY WHITE GUY....WISH I COULD TAKE HIM FOR A LOT OTHER CLASSES.
I took Dr. Sanders in the first quoter of being a student at CSULA. He is a brilliant professor, who is very helpful and always there to explain anything that you don't understand. Don't be lazy! It's univ. start studying and appreciate teachers that trying to educate you.
He is a cool professor
Dr Sanders is one of the best professors at csula. i learned lots from him in one semester than what i have actually learned from these other crim professors. i was hesitant to take his class because of the comments i read here, but he is the complete opposite. he is not condesending and is very helpful. if you want that A, you will have to earn it
DR. SANDERS IS THE BOMB! I TOOK HIM FOR 303 AND PASSED WITH AN A. THAT WAS AN ALL ESSAY AND I TOOK HIM FOR 309 AND GOT A B BUT IT WAS ALL MULTIPLE CHOICE WHICH WAS A BIT HARDER. HE IS VERY CARING AND UNDERSTANDING. TEXTBOOK NOT REQUIRED TESTS ARE FRO NOTES. THE ONLY WAY TO FAIL THIS CLASS IS NOT TO STUDY THE NOTES. TAKE HIM!
Sanders can sometimes be too energetic but at least most of his lectures are interesting. U dnt need the book for his class. All his teachings are PowerPoint. His multiple choice test (3 of them) can sometimes confusing, even for him. He made many corrections on his tests while the class was in process of taking the exam. He was a little unclear on how to write the paper at the end however, the least u can get is 5 out of 10 on it. In all he is a fair/average teacher, nothin spectacular.
Study and you will pass!!
This guy is always hyper and gets off topic most of the time. His class is composed of 2 exams and an essay that is about 1,000 words. I recommend to take him if you want to hurt your GPA
Sanders is an extremely hyper guy, really into the stories he tells. He is very entertaining as a professor. With that being said, he is also very hard. His tests are very tricky and you basically have to memorize his power points verbatim in order to do well in his tests. If you are great are memorization, take him, if not stay away
Study study study! fill in the study guides and make sure you STUDY! overall fair professor, funny stories
Don't waste your money on the book at all you don't need it. The class is based off his power points. Three exams 30 questions each and a paper worth 10 points. Exams are kind of difficult, paper is a page long you get 5 points just for turning it in. Really hard grader on the paper majority of the students get 8/10 or 7/10.
Great professor! 3 tests worth 30pts each and a one page paper worth 10pts. First time taking him got a B only because i got a D on test 2. Paper was not difficult got a 10/10. Test are tricky but it you study youll be fine.. You learn in his class.. Very energetic! I used the book but its not necessary..
He is a great professor, buy you really need to attend class and study for the tests
he is all over the place, not helpful at all. super obsessed with gangs, is only willing to help if you look like an ex gang member, will NEVER take his class gain. If you want to FAIL go ahead. Does not care about students
3 tests that range on a level of easy to hard (which he states at the beginning of class) in addition to a 1 pg paper! He is very energetic & follow his guidelines because if he states you can NOT be late to a test, you can NOT be late or he will not let you take it & you basically fail the class. Study hard and you'll get an A like me!!!
Avoid Sanders at all cost. He is NOT helpful. If you participate, be careful he will embarrass you infront of the class if he does not agree with your opinion.
He knows his material, but is not very helpful during his office hours! I do not recommend him!
HE IS VERY PRECISE ON WHAT HE WANTS AND EXPECTS. YOU MUST BRING POWERPOINTS TO CLASS. MIDTERM AND FINAL IS BASED ON POWERPOINTS LECTURES. MUST FOLLOW GUIDELINES FOR THE 3-PAGE PAPER OR YOU WILL RECEIVE MINIMUM POINTS FOR TRYING. STUDY POWERPOINTS. I REALLY ENJOY HIS LECTURES RECEIVED A LETTER GRADE OF B!!
Study PowerPoints but ask questions. The study guide is too broad so study everything in the power points. He has 2 test and 1 final paper. But make sure you follow his paper guidelines, if not you get thank you points for trying.
One of the worst professors I've taken at CSULA. DO NOT recommend this teacher. Take another elective, you'll be glad you did!
2 Exams, 1 Term paper. Exams are based off PowerPoint slides, but make sure you study everything because his study guide is very broad. Term paper can be a little tricky. Prof refused to look at my paper and gave me a"give a man a fish and you feed him for a day" statement. Anyway, anyway, moving on.I aced both exams but got a C- on the term paper.
Pretty tough professor. Strict on grading so do your best. One 10 min presentation (40% of your grade) and a 15 page, 3000 word paper (60% of your grade). Follow his writing instructions carefully and you should do fine on the paper. He will not look at your drafts because he says it's spoon feeding so you have to rely on your classmates for help.
VERY CLEAR! as to what he wants in your paper. Does not baby you or read your rough drafts. This is exactly how class should be ran. If by this point (the last class before graduating),you do not know how to write a research paper, you are in trouble. Very good lecturer, research-experienced, and laid back guy.
Very helpful professor. His lectures are fun and interesting and he's very clear as to what he wants out of you. One 7 to 10 minute presentation and a 10 page paper for the final.
The writing assignment is harder than it seems. Only gives 3 tests the whole semester so there is no room to mess up. He gives very clear lectures and makes himself available to his students.
Sanders was my all time favorite Crim professors. He is very knowledgeable and makes you think. Although he is a tough grader, I really enjoyed his class. If i can take him again i would! His test are difficult if you don't study but overall he is awesome!!
only three test the entire quarter and each are 25% of the final grade. Go to his office hours for any help he is always there and cares about his students. Test are super hard study once the study guide is up a lot of things to memorize. My suggestion is to not study the day before the test. Start studying like a week ahead!!!
Taken him for two different courses and I got A on both. Test are difficult, have to memorize word by word. Paper is easy just follow his exact instructions for it. If you ask him for help you will do good.
We had 3 exams. each one was 30%. total of 90% we also had a research paper which was 10%. he gives opportunity for extra credit. which was 1% everything on the study guide is on the midterm!
Professor Sanders a a chill funny professor. Class consisted of a midterm (30 questions), final (30 questions) , and paper (3.75 pages). The test can be a little difficult since he asks for specific info at times. However, he provides a study guide and all the info is on the PP.
midterm, final, term paper. take this class if you don't mind memorizing entire power points for the midterm and final. questions pulled directly from power point. but they are tricky questions so beware. having said that, pretty straight forward guy.
Professor Sanders is a very loud and hilarious professor. The class isn't too hard. Consists of a midterm, final, and a term paper. He gives you study guides and a clear guideline of what he wants in the paper. This isn't a class where you can sit and text in all day, he calls students out if you're texting and makes everyone keep their phones away
Do not take if you wish to fail! He does not even thoroughly read the papers, he just grades them by reading the first 2 paragraphs. Horrible instructor!
If you fail his class, re-evaluate your life. ALL his classes usually consist of 2 reflection exercises; 2 exams + final exam; 5 page paper(easy just GO TO OFFICE HOURS). He also provides one point extra credit. You only meet about 5 times out of the semester, video lectures are posted on canvas. He literally gives you study guide of test questions
Sanders talks really fast during lecture and makes not so funny jokes. It always seems he's on something (if you know what I mean). His test is hard so make sure you go over all the course work. Three reflections, three exams, and a final paper. Take him only if you have to.
He is straight forwarded and explains exactly what he requires for his assignments. I took him for summer and the book was optional, he provided recorded readings of the material so the book was optional. The assignments were heavy, a paper/reflection a week, but it was a summer course. Also, the paper needed to be 3 pages long (double spaced).
He can come off as very rude but very straight forward professor. Work was very limited 4 assignments but very hard. He is a very tough grader so make sure to follow he's guidelines. Do not take him if your looking for an easy grade. You really have to work for it
I rarely do this but this has been the worse teacher i have ever taken provided no zoom classes no examples of assignments and expected all assignment to be perfect grades super hard and gives the worse feed back do not take this professor only took him because he was the one available by far the worse teacher i have ever taken in my academic caree
They only people who can't pass this class are those who don't try. Prof. Sanders always provides clear instructions for every assignment. He also uploads videos & literally shows you exactly how to do them. If you follow his instructions & do the work you will pass & learn a lot in the process, simple as that. Thank You Mr. Sanders!
I don't usually rate my professors but if I can help someone else avoid Sanders, I will. Sanders is incredibly particular about the assignments he assigns, will dock points for arbitrary reasons. His feedback on them is practically worthless and demeaning. Assignments are incredibly weighted. Does not utilize canvas to its full potential
probably the worst prof ive taken since i have been at csula, doesnt really care for whats going on in your life. assignments are extremely weighted there was only 4 so there isnt time to make up your grade. yeah he provides feedback but after the assignment is due with no chance to improve your work for a better grade
He was extremely easy going and lenient all semester. Gave 100% for everything and had super easy criteria to meet, until after we turned in our final paper. He gave the vaguest instructions and then failed people for very minor things, like a wrong title. He did not prepare us or help us for this and graded it extremely harshly. DO NOT TAKE HIM
In the beginning, I was afraid to take Prof. Sanders because of the various reviews I read about him and his grading system. In reality, he is a great professor. For this class, he broke up the paper into four parts throughout the semester. The final if the final version of the paper. Make sure to follow this directions and watch his videos!!
So this was my capstone class, overall this was a very hard class due to the level of writing the essay was. But the professor himself? Was amazing! Simple, and to the point! Make sure you do EXACTLY as he wants are you are set! Oh yeah, he talks about surfing a lot.
Manageable class it was very easy to get a good grade in this class simply instructions and don't get lazy and you will pass.
Its weird that he has bad reviews because 4010 with Sanders was great! I have heard a lot of things about him being a tough grader prior to taking him so I was nervous but if you follow his instructions exactly how he wants things, you will get 100%. I honestly recommend him.
Professor Sanders's class might be a tough one for many people. His class requires you to work on a series of essays. He gives you plenty of time to complete them, however, with the weekly deadlines. Follow his directions and examples and you will do well in the class. If you're comfortable writing college-level papers, you will be fine.
professor Sanders is a nice guy dont get me wrong but every assignment was essays to me I feel I learned nothing through the semester but just trying to figure it out myself. Hes a tough grader too!
The workload throughout the semester was alright. But when it came to help he would always ask if I read the lectures first. Like no shit sherlock that why im comming to you for clarification. the only good part is that we were able to work on the paper throughout the semester which was a good stress reliver.
The workload was tough; we had ch summaries each week & one term paper. People who complain are those who don't ask for help. He will happily meet with you to explain. Overall, he is a bit picky, but it's doable if you ask for help, you will get it and get a good grade. Be ready to read if you don't like reading don't take him you will not pass!
Not very specific on assignments and wasn't reallly helpful
Very boring class. You are on your own. Lectures are awful and basically pointless because that is what the book is for. You can get a great score on everything leading up to the final and have you grade drop by 25%. The writing guidelines are specific and tedious! No room for your thoughts and opinions only room for his.
Do not take him if you are unable to read and follow directions. He undoubtedly has his own set of guidelines for how he wants his work done, & if you don't meet those guidelines, you'll lose points. The only difficult part of the lesson is adhering to his instructions for your assignment. He responds in 24 hours.
Do not take if you are not a perfect writer. Have to submit a one page paper every week. Final paper is crucial that can make or break your grade. Rubric is very strict where one thing can fail your whole paper. Would not take as he and his TA are hard graders. Only class I have ever had an issue with hard grading and rubric criteria.
Cannot recommend this professor, even though I finished with an A. Your grade will depend on your final draft papers. I am not exaggerating when I say this but a single missing period, comma, or some grammatical error and your paper will receive a fail. All of my rough drafts in his class were failed so his class feels like a coin flip honestly.
Although he is a tough grader,he provides lecture videos and powerpoints on how he wants his work. Just make sure to follow his guidelines word for word since he is very picky .He at least gives you a whole week to turn in your assignments every friday at 7pm.Get ready to write in APA most of assignments are on writing.Stressful but doable, prepare.
Overall Dr. Sanders is a great professor but keep in mind! Friday work is due at 7pm and get ready to write a paper every week! The Final paper is around 12-15 papers with 18 or more references! Make sure you apply a lot of time into your papers because it will reflect on the grade you get and any grammar mistake can make or break your grade!
Goated professor of all time in Criminology department. He truly cares about his student that went through hard times. When he's pretty outgoing, he loves surfing which contributes to his passion for teaching. He gives them some extension if you are falling behind. If you want free credit, Take Bill Sanders and appreciate for making it awesome!
