boring , but easy
He is very clear on what he expects from his students. I found that he was very helpful.
About 6 ten page papers on the same topic-resarch . A lot of busy work. Chapter H.W every night. A lot of research/library work. Required to attend a lot of library workshops.
He's alright, just do exactly what his essays say. Don't write the rough draft and expect that's it. At least don't write the rough draft, and concentrate on the final draft.
Nice guy, who will help anyone who needs it. Grades hard at first but gets easier as class goes on.
this was an honors class and we were discussing the same things my 12 year old sister learning in 8th grade! but, seriously, this is THE english teacher to take if you want an easy A.
Conservative, slightly stiff personality. He grades rough at first, and towards the end you see his softer side. Follow his assignments completely, and be clear on what he wants. He is a good person to learn fundamentals. Not a creative writing teacher
Really easy, mult midterm and final 4 4-5 page papers all on the same topic. Lot of homework but easy to do just answering questions from the book.follow the outline of the papers and will do good, enroll in work shop to get extra credit
Mr. Stevenson may seem hard at first. But once you know his marking style, it is easy to achieve an A. My suggestion is to do lots of research for the essay and enroll in his ENG 300 lab. If you are willing to do this, his class is just another A.
He is alright , I was one percentage aways from geeting a B and he didnt raise it. He is not that bad.
Excellent teacher and easy to read and follow textbooks.
nothing i did was good enough!
a really easy professor, no in-class essay ^_^, and good extra credit. if u read text carefully then u will definitely get an A, for sure.
Well, he is a nice guy, but business is business. Do not be fooled by these other suckers. Yes, it was easy for me; however, my peers seemed to struggle, which tells me that it may be difficult. Lot's of H.W, but not too vicious.
easy a
Easy A if you do your work and essays well. Good amount of extra credit, midterm is a joke, guy is a dork, only reason for coming to class is for turning in homework, which u can totally bs.
His class isnt horrible. He isnt always an easy grader on essays. Can be funny at times
Had his class in summer so it seemed pretty fast paced w/ a lot of writing. Nice person, grades very fair, even offers EC for going to LAP(which makes for better papers). Since taking his class, I get A papers in all other classes. Proves to me his effectiveness. I was kept busy but got a 96%.
Boring, dry, like toast with no jelly.
He is as borning as his name Bill. You have to write 4 papers 4-5 pages each and do homework for every class. Do the homework cause it adds up. He did improve my writting skills tremendously. Offers some extra credit and is clear on assignmnets. He's a total nerd, but he may give you a better grade than you deserve at the end of the semester.
Very Easy. Just turn in all the homework which you can easily bs and do all your essays with the extra credit. 10 points extra credit on each essay and its really easy. Midterm and final are a joke! Easy A if you do the work
I liked him alot. Can pass class if you do the work.
I took Bill's class as a 6 week summer class and I got a whole lot out of it. He is a good teacher and knows what he is talking about. Take his class and you will be happy.
Loved this class and loved the teacher. He is kinda shy and boyish. Loved the error logs and the revisions of the essays, helped tremendously. I missed an A by 30 points but I tried hard and was very pleased by what I learned. I have no desire to take any other teacher. Decided to take his fiction writing class inspired me to write a book.
Indeed it was a bliss. He checks the turned-in paper in-class and turn them right away without reading your papers and commenting them, but, you get a perfect score randomly. How would you know your flaws, and weakenesses in writing? This class is a total joke!
Fiction Fundamentals. Fun class. Write two stories the entire semester. Every week there are like 10 questions from the Doubletakes/Fictional Writing Books. My class is 3 hours, but it is worth it. No tests. No projects. Highly recommended. I love the guy. He has cool shoes.
Classes are pretty boring, basically going over middle school-grade grammar. However, he gives you plenty of time and materials to prepare for each essay. The outline templates virtually tell how to complete each essay. Doesn't care much about homework. You'll get a perfect score if you do it, even if it's wrong. Reccommended for an easy class.
He definitely is chilly pepper hot and helpful. Thanks for all the help!
I took him for Eng. 1A, and I really liked him. The class itself is pretty boring but its easy. Just do the HW and your essays, and you will get a good grade. Stevenson gives participation points for coming to class, and 1 point journals at the beginning of every class If you are late a lot like I was your grade will suffer.Very helpful with essays
Professor Steveson is AWESOME... Have had 4 classes with him starting with English 200, English 1A, English 1B, and Fiction Writing... He is dedicated, professional, funny, and passionate... He has inspired and believed in me when I had doubts... HOO-RAH for Professor Stevenson!!!

Dude looks like Will Ferrell, I swear to god! Besides that, he is a pretty good teacher. Take him.
I read all the comments saying this teacher was good, but I found the opposite to be true. All he gives is a lot of busy work and 4 essays which are on the same topic. It's like he thinks we have nothing better to do than boring work from his class. I also didn't learn anything. I'd recommend taking another teacher.
Professor Steveson is a really nice guy and his class is really easy, but it was one of the most boring classes I've ever had. The essay topics are very dull and boring. The whole day is spent on busy work. He also give out so much work he can't even grade it all.
Overall great teacher, he is one that understands if you struggle ad have problems and he is always ther to help. He does have a lot of work so if you plan on transferin to a good school this is a good teacehr, youll get alot out of it. IF you are a slacker and not graduating take another teacher because itll be a waste of your time.
way to easy
Disregard all the "he's boring" comments. It's English, people! My bet is that these comments are coming from those who hate English classes which involve in-depth essay writing, or for lack of better words, usin' your noggin'. He's very nice, very helpful and a great teacher. What else can you ask for? Definitely worth taking!
I believe that all of the ppl commenting on here are coming straight from high school w/ no discipline whatsoever. I am taking mostly honors courses & I work & I am still getting an A in this class. Yes u have to read & write your essays on time, but that should be expected. All you have to do is 4 SIMPLE essays 4pgs dble spc. easiest class ever.
Easy class(no tests/quizes & only hw every week) but I'm extremely unhappy with it. You must write two stories & do journals in class (which you HAVE TO share with other people). I don't find it helpful to express my "feelings" with random people & it's useless to have freshly graduated highschool & CC students criticize my writing. What a waste..
Prof. Stevenson is a good professor. I think he is actually funny. He has a dry humor about him which means you have to pay attention to what he's saying. Also his class is very easy. A little too easy. He grades essay's fairly easy and the homework is based on if you did it or not. But, he's a stickler about 2nd person so watch out! Good professor
For an honors class, it was easy. Three essays, a bunch of homework assignments, etc. However, I didn't feel like I learned much. We spent the entire class time evaluating editorials and discussing questions we'd already answered for homework. It's a fairly easy class, but EXTREMELY boring for 16 weeks.
For an honors class, it was super easy, yet Super boring. He assigns tons of busy work, however, we only had 3 essays the entire semester. I recommend if youre interested in an easy A. But he never lets you out early, and the class drags on forever and ever ... and ever..
Fair, but boring. You MUST read the book in order to do well. He offered extra credit, you should do it. He makes you work for your grade, but you don't learn very much...a lot of busy work.Fair teacher though!!
Very, very boring class. A lot of reading expected, with boring-busy work assignments due every class. Overall pretty easy: if you do the reading and the assignments - which are simple but take a while.
Awesome teacher, makes everything simple and teaches you english, although you might feel like your back in 7th grade at some points. Just DO NOT TAKE THE 3hr class, even if he lets you out early sometimes, the class can just go so sssssllloooowwwwww
SUBJECTIVE GRADER! His class is extremely easy (homework midterm final) and his essays are easy as well yet he is a very tough grader.
Nice guy but not a good fiction teacher. Never lectured about how to write a story. Learned from book but nothing from him-could've just read book. Wasted valuable class time going over homework we already did. Overly concerned with people trying to get "an easy A" when most people take this OPTIONAL class because they want to write. Disappointed.
Honors. Pretty easy teacher, make sure you do well on all your essays. I received a C on my first paper. Final and midterm are decent. I got an A in the class. Didn't learn anything though.
I had high hopes for this class but was left dissapointed, despite the fact that I received an A. I felt like the majority of the class was self-taught, busy work. Prof Stevenson doesn't teach. I felt that I didn't learn anything about creative writing. Peer reviews are annoying, too, but it is a workshop style class. Easy A if you do everything.
Not easy. A lot of work, but if you keep up with it, it's not too hard.
Lots of busy work but its not hard homework. He makes it clear what to expect in the essays too. Class can get boring but I would take him again. For an honors class, not bad at all.
A ridiculous amount of work... If you are taking multiple classes, then how are you supposed to get all of this done!? On top of that, he doesn't actually *teach* anything. Oh, and at the end of every class, he lets the students go ONE AT A TIME.
So easy for an Honors class, but not an easy A. He grades the essays (3 at home, 1 in class) pretty harshly, so do all of the homework and study for the midterm and final. I didn't learn much from him; the class is full of busy work out of the books. I personally don't like him, but he was easy enough for me to take 1BH with him next semester.
So much busy work!! Every class you have about 2-4 assignments to turn in. They are not difficult, just time consuming. You can hardly hear what he says in class and he DOES NOT TEACH. All of the things I learned were either self taught or student taught. He even makes the librarians teach you about citing sources.
I took 1A and 1B Honors and found both classes enjoyable, practical, and informative. Professor Stevenson is very understanding, fair, and most importantly knowledgable on the subject. English 1B honors is a very rigorous class, but it's worth the hard work: The critical thinking skills you learn can be applied to countless areas in life.
Ah I see. Stevenson scans this page regularly so he can flag down any dissension including my post from last week. I'm just trying to help people out. This class is all busy work with no academic value!
This class has A LOT of work! 2-3 assignments everyday and they are long! He doesnt teach, just reads the questions from the homework and goes over the answers. He believes he is helpful, but isnt. And tests are a WASTE OF TIME! When asked why an answer was the way it was, he said, "That's just the way it is!" He is not clear with what he wants!
I had the same experience as the previous reviewer. I asked him to explain something in the book and he said, "That's just the way it is." Who does he think he is, Tupac? He seems to cast out that line a lot, but fortunately nobody takes the bait-- we all know his class is BS.
The worst class! I have started to skim over the work. This frustrates me because I know that the content of your answers is not important. The completion is the only thing that matters. If you are interested in history as opposed to literary theory or evaluation, then this class is great.
Great teacher, the work load was never overwhelming. Our class had great group discussions.
This class is really easy. On the first day he says when you turn in your assignments, you will get an A unless you don't follow the instructions. All the work is a completion grade. Also there is no difference if you choose to take the honors section for this, so just do it. Easy A.
An easy A as long as you do the work. He assigns a ton of busy work, and class is spent just going over the homework. Super big on participation, so talk a lot. Sign up for all the Extra Credit you can, and you have no excuse for not getting an A.
Nice guy, but really not a very good teacher. Teaches a class on writing short stories even though he has never had anything published. Reviews all stories but the peer reviews are more useful. Gives useless advice in his comments and doesn't help with grammar at all. I was very disappointed by the class. Didn't learn a thing.
I enjoyed his class very much, a lot of busy work though.. so keep it up and try to attend the majority of classes in the semester because participation is a huge bonus!
I enjoyed his class, it helped my writing a lot. We had assignments that responded to articles about a topic and wrote a paper about it. The class also had computers and online homework about writing mechanics/grammar. The tech helped me learn better. He wants to teach his students to become good writers & succeed. Try and you should do good.
Awesome teacher. He is willing to discuss and clarify literature with the students. However, there is daily homework (a lot!) and daily journal writing. Quizzes are decent and the final report was not too hard. Lots of extra credit available! Daily class participation a must.
I've never been so disappointed. He doesn't take his students in creative writing seriously, and he is the least creative person I've met. All busy work, no learning. Dreaded his class, and I'm a writer by nature. Should be teaching middle school grammar, has no business being in this field. He robbed me of what should have been the best class ever
I took this class while take 18.5 units. This class no joke is about 8 hours a week of just reading! If you don't enjoy reading old English and pages and pages of homework I would take another class. The homework is a majority of the grade but tests are also heavily weighted. This class isn't too hard but make sure you have time. I ended w/ an A.
Professor Stevenson is the one of the nicest professors! He's a very laid back teacher but is also very helpful. I would definitely recommend taking his class
Professor Stevenson's class is great! I find it not hard at all the maintain an A or B all semester in his class. He gives online homework, but it's really easy. The essays are moderately long. Overall I love his class, and I want to get him for English 1A for sure!
A lot of homework every night. Class was incredibly boring, just goes over the homework. I learned nothing. Don't take him.
A very good professor! He can tell how much effort each students puts into his class which can help those who aren't good at English. Very clear expectations. Not a lot of homework, points are based off classworkparticipation and essays. lf you put the work in, you will get an A. By the end of this class you should also have learned quite a bit!
He should be a high school teacher. Takes attendance, and be expected to be "excused" from class. He will try to get students to stay after exams. He assigns a ton of homework, but it's easy if you read the assigned chapters. Do the work and you'll pass. I learned nothing. It's just a pain coming to class because he treats students like they're 14.
I would not have passed without him, he get's you. He helps you and as long as you go and ask for help you will pass. He is just a great professor
Smiles a lot. Nice guy. By the end of the year, you question whether or not he actually just hates everyone. His favorite writing style is clear, sharp, and dramatic. Hemingway fanatic. If you're an English Major, the class is a joke. All of his story critiques are harsh and mean. Don't be discouraged, my friend! Easy A
Stevenson does not teach. Tons of unnecessary homework. No freedom to voice your opinion in class. We actually read a book titled Reading and Writing about Literature and an essay book even though the class is not a composition course. Expect to be dismissed after class like you are a 3rd grader. He does not expand on what we read. Does not teach!!
He's a nice guy, but I found his class really monotonous. You literally read a few pages from the book (as homework), answer questions easily found in the readings, and then show up to class to discuss the questions from the homework -- on repeat. Participation matters, but you can just sit there if you want. Midterm and Final are super easy.
classic Stevenson. part time comedian. pretty much a 6th grade english class.
Only take this course if it's required for your major. He doesn't know much about the material, and his discussions about the literature are surface level. He dislikes it if you give a legitmate analysis of the text. He is doing a disservice to lit majors. My eighth grade English class was harder than this course.
He was a really nice professor, and was very helpful. We did mostly essays, but they had a very clear criteria, so they were all very easy. The midterm and final were the easiest tests I've ever taken, so I recommend him for English 200.
Hes a nice guy. I took him for English 300 lab. However, he showed up late often. Overall hes okay.
Easy, and a nice guy. Pretty lenient
super good and caring teacher! you can tell he loves what he does and he wants all of his students to pass! there is a lot of work but you have time in class to finsih
A true gentleman. Truly enjoyed his class.
Hes a great professor I didnt know what to think in the beginning. But honestly all you have to do is put in the easy effort and you should receive a great grade. The test are easy. The essays are too, and as long as you turn in every single one in you should be fine.
okay so he will help you out if you are really trying if you don't wanna try don't waste your time and the teacher. he's amazing
Took this prof twice for two literature classes. He is a great man with a caring attitude. He likes what he teaches and is very knowledgeable. Lectures are based solely on homework but are interactive. He is quiet but not in a weird way just in a "please answer the questions" way. Learn the material/participate and you're golden. Only one essay.
He really cares about his students and hes even available outside of class if youre willing to meet him during his office hours for extra help on your essays. I took him for English 1A & we had 6 essays throughout the semester , 1 midterm exam, and a final . Plus, theres also a ton of extra credit opportunities & hes lenient on late work.
easiest english class. many peer revisions, easy tests, homework takes 5 mins. hes a cool guy too, but the subject matter for essays are somewhat mundane.
Very good professor, he assigns daily journals where you read articles and write a response each of them. He LOVES annotation with color and you must answer a question in class to gain a daily point for participation. His tests go over everything from class so no surprises. Regular five essays with interchanging prompts. Overall a great class.
Homework is clearly defined and workload is fair. No surprises. Just show up and do the work and its all good.
This teacher is very straight forward and requests that you participate in class discussions to receive full credit. He uses the textbook consistently and all of the assignments are easy, as long as you do the assigned reading. He gives out more extra credit than expected and its applicable to what we learned throughout the semester!
Hes truly a good guy that cares about his students success and is always willing to help or answer questions. Hes a fair grader, and gives you many opportunities to raise your grade. Homework is easy and doesnt take long. Midterm and final are multiple choice.
Homework assignments are all surface-level questions about the material. These same questions are then gone over one-by-one during the "discussions" every class. Literature is supposed to be analytical and stimulating, not dull and tedious. Class was a major disappointment. If you're an English major, take the class with a different professor.
Hes an amazing professor and super caring about his students. The readings are super fun and you can tell he really cares about his students and wants them to pass and do well. I would 100% recommend him!
Super awesome professor! My writing skills have improved since taking this class. One thing I love is that the little assignments are mainly for participation, so he does most of the tough grading for the essays. It's a simple and easy class if you participate, read the book, and ask questions. Overall, very caring! He wants you to pass.
This class was very easy. If you participate you will be sure to pass. I recommend taking ENG1A with the support of ENG201. It's the best way to pass ENG1A with flying colors. He's super caring and accessible. He's clear about his expectations about the class. He's a solid professor and I can tell he's been teaching English for a long time.
Prof. Stevenson is a very respectable professor. He does give a lot of homework each week, but he doesn't grade most of the homework. It's mainly for participation. There is always an essay due but the homework prepares you for the prompt of the essay. He is always available and cares about his student's success. I would take his class again!
This was my absolute favorite class at Saddleback. Professor Stevenson was so nice and his lectures were great. Participation does matter because he likes a class discussion but it was honestly so interesting and fun. If you do the HW, raise your hand once per class, and the EC, you can get over 100%, which i did. Midterm & final straightforward.
Great Professor, he gives you a clear layout for every assignment. He genuinely cares about his class and wants you to succeed.
Excellent teacher! I expect an A from this class. Four essays worth roughly 11% of the grade each. Lots of homework, but worth it if you're there to learn! It was online when I took it, but the class is meant to be in-person. The midterms and finals are easy and multiple choice. The organization is generally solid, so planning for homework is easy.
The best English professor I have ever had. He reads all your submissions carefully and gives comprehensive feedback on each of them. He is constantly trying to move the class in a more useful and convenient direction for everyone. He has a high understanding of the younger generation and is fair and accommodating (especially during Covid).
Good teacher, had him for English 1A and had to take English 201 with it online. The class was supposed to be twice a week but he made it ones a week and that was nice. There is a lot of hw and 6 papers but the hw is really easy in English 1A as long as you do the hw and try your best on the papers you will pass. Theres really no hw in 201.
6 papers in total, all around 1,000-1,2000 words. Usually 2 weekly assingments that are 5 questions. Overall great guy, always tries to throw in little jokes, and gives great feedback on essays. NO LECTURES, easy midterm, and he doesn't care too much about attendance. Take his class !!
he gives homework on the days we don’t even have class and everything is due 1:30 which means before the class. gives homework even on the midterm days and just gives a study guide on the midterm which is 5 long pages just name with no explanation expecting us to learn which is also worth 50 points!!! he takes forever to grade your essays too
I have never spent so much time trying to copy his documents on to my google doc in my life, so I end up copying his "outline" line by line because he does not accommodate. His lectures are literally just the homework, his grading is so analytical and high strung that I don't understand why I just accept it. His assignments are also badly scaled.
He will never ask you anything thought provoking. Lectures consist of reading tedious homework assignments aloud. There are two essays and two tests, all of which are offensively simple. He is utterly dispassionate and has no interest in progressing your learning. Pick something else if you care even a little. I'm a Eng major and I feel robbed.
While I ended with a solid grade in the course, this was only by my extra credit and solid participation in every class discussion. Reading questions do not provoke any creative thinking regarding the author's perception or means for personal interpretation, (though he claims to encourage this.) Hypocritical of advice given. English M: Don't Take!
Stevenson is a light-hearted and caring professor. Our class had a total of 4 essays to write throughout the semester, and he's good at preparing his students for each one. The midterm and final exams are easy if you do the weekly assignments and participate in class. Take him for a smooth experience in ENG 1B!
Stevenson is perfect. He is very understanding and chill. Me makes the assignments easy and makes jokes. Its a very easy class but all the material is there to get better. Easy A class if you try.He is literally perfect other than one thing. He is a slow grader but because of all the students he has. If hes avalible take his class.
He reviews all material on the day of the tests so that was clutch (only 2 tests, midterm and final). Extra credit every week. There was a decent amount of hw but it was all super easy. He's great with DSPS accommodations. The essays were 1 after another but he's not a tough grader. He's pretty chill with deadlines and attendance.
The class was not hard, as long as you put in some effort you will be successful, however, he is extremely backlogged when it comes to grading. we were assigned 5 essays that semester, and on my last day of class he had only graded the first one from January, and the same goes with homework assignments. I wish he would just keep up on grading.
Professor Stevenson was an amazing teacher. I took his class in my first semester and it was nice to see someone that actually cared about their students. Stevenson gives great feedback on your essays and will help you succeed in his class if you ask. There are roughly 5 essays, each with a different focus, and two tests that are reviewed before.
This class was straight forward, but there is SO much homework. Every class had questions due, and 4 essays total. Once the essays start then it is pretty much none stop. We would start the next essay the week the last one was due so you really had to be on top of stuff. The first three essays are super easy 2500 words, last essay is 8-12 pages.
I would never recommend this professor to anyone even remotely interested in English and Literature. He only reviews the homework questions all class period and has the least engaging discussions I've ever encountered. He makes you take the midterm on a scantron in person and requires that you write the first TWO drafts of your paper by hand.
Waits until the last second to provide rough draft feedback to use for our final drafts even though we rely on his the most compared to the peer reviews. By semester's end, only 2 essays had been graded, and we didn't even find out the grades on our final 2 essays because he closed the canvas. He's not a bad professor, just kind of a bad grader.
Professor Stevenson is a great teacher who truly cares about student success. While grading can be slow, the class is manageable with regular attendance and effort. Unstuck AI and the provided textbook resources were helpful for boosting my writing skills.
He was really particular about all the little things big essays, but he never planned the time accordingly so we were always pressed for time). Was never really accessible by email, took forever to return assignments (usually with poor feedback). I was just really frustrated that I never seemed to learn anything new or got encouraged to grow
Probably the worst prof I've had. All of his hw is basic "did you read it" questions that take forever to do and then the classes are just him asking those questions off the hw. We don't learn anything in this class. You could get an A without using your brain. He doesn't seem to care about his students (or anything for that matter).
He's really great at helping you understand even the hardest topics and gives purposeful homework. You'll leave his class with the tools to be a successful writer. He takes the time to go over homework and gives great feedback. I would take another one of his classes. 10/10 recommend! You'll learn so much and he sets you up for success!
Wouldn't recommend, took an online class and I don't know if he is burnt out or reached his expiration date. Doesn't care, non-responsive, post assignments late sometimes upwards to 3 days late, and little to no feedback.
His class was easy, but be prepared for reading and speaking with your classmates as he likes to put you in groups. Make sure to come in class all the time as most of the work given are supposed to be done during class. Overall, he is a good teacher but it can be boring but it is an easy A as long as you don't cheat and actually do all the work.
top 1 worst teacher of all time. only allowed to do assignments in person during the 75 minute class period which he spends almost an hour going over chapters in the book instead. cant take assignments home. uses Turnitin as an ai detector for essays and trusts it with his life despite inaccuracy, wont hear you out if ur work says any % of ai
This class is very common sense, stuff you learned in middle school, total of 6 essays. Very unorganized and essays are backtoback. You get a grade everyday, point for showing up and point for participating. We go into groups and read an article about every day and discuss it. He's super sweet but this class is agonizing and about 35years outdated.
this teacher is a fag do not take any course of his
Very old school teacher, he hates grammarly so don't even think of using ai. His class is very easy and honestly hard to fail. He is also very understanding but takes forever to grade work which is annoying. But overall he's a good and easy teacher I would take him again.
