talks too fast, can't take notes. Way too enthusaistic and crazy about science, to the point were you feel lost and completely not on his level. Tests are enormous (around 600 points a piece) and contain continuous amounts of information. Presents info in a confusing, over-advanced manner.
bill is very excited about teaching and his subject. gives quizes every day that add to test scores, great opportunity to be challenged every day. expects a lot of knowledge from you, but gives a very clear picture of what you need to know. one of the best bio profs ever.
DO NOOOOTTTT TAKE
Definitely one of the best instructors ever! Truly cares about students and creates a fun learning environment. Lectures are always informative and interesting. Always willing to help students and enjoys teaching. Exams are somewhat difficult and tricky but will make you think and learn. I highly recommend taking all his classes if you want to lear
If you want to be in the future a Bio professor this class is exactly for you! The teacher gives a lot of unnecessary information in details not from the book. His exams based on notes, not on the information from the book. He speeks very fast and it is very hard to take all the notes. His explanation of material is unclear and he uses a difficult
crazy teacher!!!!!!!!!very hard exams for 4 t0 5 hours! every day quizes! the worst teacher i have ever had in my life!
Extremely enthusiastic. test are easy, only if you study. He gives study guides. he doesn't care too much about attendance. awesome professor
Extremely clear. Dynamic and animated. Gives the class a chance to earn a lot of extra credit. High energy - makes learning fun. I often smiled and laughed in class.
Very unclear! He enjoys making student's life more difficult. Maniac!
Tests on what is taught. Teaches the important stuff, what can be carried on to other courses and life. He makes learning fun because he has a great sense of humor. He is a good teacher overall. Loves to joke around with his students. The quizzes and tests are crucial in order to succeed, even though they seem like few points here and there.
His passion for his work is obviously displayed in his efforts to be available for extra help in order for all of the students to have a full comprehension of the material. He is easily accessible and really wants you to learn! His teaching style is fun and useful in real life situations.
Amazing Teacher! If you take notesand study his class is not hard at all. Tells you exactly what you need to know and no more. Tests are a little tricky but fair. Get him for anatomy you won't regret it.
He is a overzealous, pedantic fink. Exam one was worth over 1500 points, the next one was 2000. His exams are cumulative. His teaching methods are completely disorganized; no clean cut notes/lecturing.
He is crazy. Gets so excited to the point that he is incomprehensible. Exams are enourmous and cummulative. Take another Bio teacher. Unless you study day and night you will fail his class. Too much useless tiny details.
very passionate about the subject and clearly explains most of it. provides his students with opportunities to improve their grades like projects and bonus quizzes. he is cumulative in his exams but it's his way of converting the student's short term memory to one of long term. take his class if you want to really learn and not just pass this subje
awful method of teaching. big chaos!
WORST teacher ever. dont even take him by mistake. he dont no how to teach. in lecture he will speak out anything that come out his head. he doesnt teach in order at all, he is all over places in the textbook. you wont learning anything at all. he is not fun at all. anatomy and physiology are suppose to be fun and especially lab.
it was just nightmare taking his class. he does not know how to teach at all.
He says what he wants you to find very fast in lecture and is jumping all over the place but doesn't show you where to actually find those veirns etc, tells you to just find them. U R on your own in this class. Very disorganized. A ridiculous assignment for a few extra credit points to map all the veins and artiereis completely in the whole body,
this was supposed 2 b an online class w/lab every othr Sat 9-3.he didn't start class til 3 wks into the semester.sent 1 assnment via email in 4 weeks then expected us 2 b ready for a test by 5th wk. study guide was a joke for a 101 class-expected 2 know, xplain, draw, calculate over 78 terms for 1st test. no structure to class at all. do not take him
he is the best teacher i have ever had. if you study you can get an A. He gives a lot of bonus points and each new test has half the questions from the privious test and half new. He tells you everything that you need to know before the exam.
PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID. DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR. He might be passionate about biology but he's not a good teacher at all.
great guy and a truly great professor. loooves teaching and it shows. is it a tough class? of course! but at least he keeps things interesting unlike other pinheads. how can you not like this guy?? he's amazing!
Great professor. He very much enjoys what he is doing. Class is demanding, lots of materials to go through from text, diagrams, visuals, models, etc. lots of stuff. His test are basically matching, essay and diagram id, sounds easy? If you prepare you can get an A.
if you are going to be a rocket scientist then take his class and he will detour you. one of the most difficult class i've ever taken. his exams are horrible. i've never seen multiple-choice exam like that before. very tricky exams and too much information to cover. i felt like he was placed in my life to discourage me and make it more miserable.
Do not take this class. Class is disorganized, instructor goes off on tangents, spends more time talking about how he wants us to do well than actually teaching. Took three weeks to give last exam back. What a nightmare!
He was a horrible teacher. He never focused on one topic at a time. His test were ginormous and cumulative. Do not take his class.
Very hard class... although, in the end... the final is only worth 400 pts, compared to his other tests which are worth like 2000 pts. If you study for the final really well... you can pull of an A... no doubt.
Although Bill is deeply into bio, he is, with all respect, the worst teacher I have ever had. Unclear and has no good methods of teaching. He's all over the place, does not stay on 1 subject at a time. Often goes on tangents about his life- about how he broke his pinky in pig competition and does not return to same spot he left off on. Do NOT take!
Ok, so this is NOT an easy class. A&P isn't SUPPOSED to be an easy class! You will work hard but you will come away having actually learned the material. As for grades, tests are cumulative, which is really difficult, but helpful for learning. Plus, he gives away "bonus points" left and right. Go to class, pay attention, use his files, get an A!
THE WORST TEACHER EVER. I KNOW A&P IS SUPPOSED TO BE HEARD BUT HE MAKES IT HARDER. HIS TEST ARE CUMMALATIVE AND KILLER. HIS TEACHING IS ALL OVER THE PLACE.DONT TAKE HIS CLASS.
He's impractical and doesn't seem to listen to his students.
you will learn a lot from him. very passionate about the subject which makes his lectures very interesting. I am a nurse now and i am really glad i had him as a teacher. I wouldnt pass my boards without what i learned in his class.
Very very hard class, i did fine in my other bio classes but he does not teach... he just gives you facts without explination.
Wow, he is way too hard. Avoid taking his class, especially in the summer. The exams are ridiculously difficult.
Please do not take this class!!! I have never dropped a class before and I have to drop this one. It's a shame to loose the $$$. I can't believe the OCC has kept him considering all of the negative comments that are writen here. He is completely out there with unrealistic expectations. There is so much to memorize it is rediculous.
If you are good at teaching yourself, then go for it. because all he does is read off power-points he made for his lecutres which are ridiculously long and expects you to know everything without actually teaching you, just reading to you. Not recommended for a student who needs a teacher to make it understandable.
He is a nice person and very smart, but he does not know how to teach the information to his students. His tests are over 2000 points each, and the final exam is worth 40% of your grade. This is an extremely hard class, but it makes it so much harder when the professor does not do a good job teaching the info. He does give bonus points though...
Had him for both A&P I/II Summer Interim, tough teacher, got to keep up. You will enjoy his class.
completly out of his mind. He expects students to learn every single detail without explaining and only reading his powerpoints. Although he gives a lot of bonus points his tests are ridiculously long and matching pages are tremendusly large with only a few correct answer to pick from a 200 choices. He doesnt keep an order on chapters. CARFUL!!
This guy is probably one of the most entertaining people i have ever met. His ability to teach, however, is a bit of an atrocity. His class should be called story time 132, not bio 132.
Extremely tough class! Very smart instructor and genuinely cares about his students and willing to help and explain. Quizes and exams are INSANE!!! OMG!!! You have to know sooo much and he does NOT go over what is on the test. I really like him as a person, but as an instructor? thats a whole other story.
I don't know what everyone's complaining about. I thought he was a great teacher. Sure, he gets off-topic a bit but it's always funny and if you actually pay attention to what he's saying you'll learn a lot. I did. Also, his tests are somewhat hard but he factors in class participation heavily. Pay attention and raise your hand!
It was a very hard class, until the end of it I wasn't sure what grade I will have. On each of the tests you can get 1500 points or more because there is about 100 questions that he makes with his own words, I think that it is especially hard for nonnative students.I will not take another class with him!
Nightmare tests! Pure torture. Think all you have to do is study hard--bam-- there goes your 4.0! Run from this class. Hours upon hours of studying will get you nowhere. He MIGHT be a decent teacher if he knew how to give a fair test. Complete disconnect on testing. Sad. Too sad.
Some of the negative reviews are understandable, but I don't agree. In my opinion he's an excellent teacher, and is one of the best teachers I've had (very caring/eager for us to do well). Others expected to do the bare minimum to get by, but you have to do the work. He tells you exactly what to study; just do it! He also gives lots of extra credit.
Passionate about A&P and students. VERY clear about what he expects you to know for exams. Gives possible essay questions for every exam. Tests are cumulative; last two cover the same material (a semester's worth of information) and are 55% of your grade. LOTS of extra credit. Tests are matching, short answer, diagram labeling and essays.
DO NOT EVER TAKE HIM DURING THE SUMMER. I have a BA already and had little problems with 132 (had with someone else). He is a nightmare teacher. All grading is based on 5 tests that are a 60? Practical, 1 essay, 90 Matching, 15 Short answer, and 90 more diagrams. Unrealistic expectations. Nice and means well, but a TERRIBLE TEACHER!
Prof. Strond is a fantastic professor! Yes, he'll challenge you but you'll learn so much. He structures the class to help you succeed. Tests are tough, but NO surprises. He's very knowledgeable about the subject and really wants students to succeed. I'd definitely take him again if I had the chance. Great prof - I learned so much!
He definitely is a tough teacher, but taking the interim for this summer was totally worth it. It's a lot of information in a short amount of time, but the time that it takes to go over everything is equal to a bio immersion. Take attentive notes, study the diagrams in the book and go over old tests! His enthusiasm is inspiring.
Everyone needs to relax. He's a great teacher. Passionate about what he's teaching. I'm not a straight A student and I wouldn't consider his class hard. You just have to study and attend class. There are no surprises on the tests. Definitely recommend.
Mr Strond is not an "Easy" teacher, but explains things clearly. Gives you opportunities for extra credit. Just goto class, take notes, pay attention and you will get an A.
I expected this class to have an overload of info & it was but he helped pin point the important stuff. He's passionate about the field which translates to his teaching. If you're looking for an easy ride don't take him but if you're looking to actually learn, go in with a + attitude & willingness to work - it's worth it!
Amazing Professor, very passionate about biology and he has ample knowledge of the material. He is very helpful and he really wants his students to succeed and get good grades. Exams are very long and hard but not surprising! You may do bad on the first exam but later things go so well so don't give up early. His class is so much fun!
There are few teachers I've had that are inspiring and he is one of them! If you're looking to skate, then this isn't the class for you. He's passionate, cares about his students, and gives you your money's worth on education, but you have to want it. I've learned more in this class than I did when taking an upper level 300 Anatomy class.
What a great teacher! I fully enjoyed coming to every class, and was inspired to be excited about the material. Very difficult in the amount of content but being challenged is appreciated. Be prepared to spend a lot of time studying this is not an easy class.
He is passionate about teaching, but I would NEVER RECOMMEND HIM.The 1st exam 1/2 the class received a D/F. He is extremely unorganized, rambles, doesn't follow the PP/book, 4 cumulative exams, 10 cum. quizzes, a ridic project that takes 20 hrs to do. His tests are insane & take 3 hours to complete. NEVER TAKE HIM! If I could have dropped I would..
This teacher is ridiculously hard. HIs exams are so hard and they take about 3 hours to complete. He does not believe in multiple choice. If you take this teacher be ready to spend your whole life studying for this class.
I lovedlove having him a professor! Is he tough? YES.. But everything he does has a purpose.. Do you have to put time into the class? YES.. but you're guaranteed not to forget the things he teaches. The best part about being in his class is that he is passionate and really makes class a lot of fun. Students who put the time in will succeed!
As a teacher he is entertaining, passionate, and very helpful. He goes above and beyond for his students. Including many study sessions after class. However, you will have at least 2 quizzes a week, and his tests are very hard. Yes, the subject itself is very difficult but the quizzes and tests don't make it any easier. Good luck.
I took Intro to Life Science, A&PII, and Microbiology from this teacher and loved every minute of it. He kept you engaged and his passion for the information helped his students want to learn what he loved so much! College students must realize that there is no standard formula for the way one teaches. It's up to the student to figure it out!
Anyone who doesn't get an A in this course didn't listen to him or didn't try. He gives you EVERYTHING you need to get an A on Day 1- practice exams, lectures w/audio, flashcards, videos, etc. He doesn't hand you your grades though- you have to study regularly and memorize a lot. But I find that's how A&P is at any campus. Fun lectures too.
He tells you exactly what to do to get an A and gives you all the material. But it isn't easy- you have to work your ass off EVERY DAY to get an A. Memorize. Study. Repeat daily.
An awesome professor, he is always there to help. He is Very encouraging person I was blessed by the best teacher ive ever had at Oakton Comunity College. I'm moving on with my other courses, but " I'M ALWAYS WITH HIM IN SPIRIT"
Awesome Professor, he is alway there to help. Watch his lecture video in advance so you can understand his material. Quiz and exam are straight forward. Make you want to learn more about.
If you already know a good bit about biology/medicine, you should be fine. If you don't have a science background, avoid him. He's easily sidetracked, and natters on about how "fun" everything is, which gets old fast. You have to teach yourself the material. He's a nice guy, and knows his stuff, but he doesn't know how to teach well.
great professor all of his lectures are repeated online
He's an excellent teacher with tons of resources to help. All his lectures are online. He offers a lot of extra credit and takes the time to help all of his students succeed. Truly inspirational.
i think he's a great teacher. Honestly he gives you more than enough opportunities to boost up your grade. He provides videos, flashcards, slides, pics, everything. Anatomy 2 isn't some class u can just sit around and listen to lecture. you'll obviously need to review on your own. Overall, i think he's a good teacher. classes aren't boring either.
Fantastic professor, is clear on due dates and what to expect from the class. Anatomy is a hard class in itself but Strond tries to make it as easy and understandable as possible. Tests are mostly straight forward, focuses on matching and short answers. However, you do need to study a lot for this class to do well.
his final exam grading is terrible. Even if you get an A in his class, just because of the final, it can go to a C!
Quizzes and tests are big for him. His points for these are off the charts. One exam (total 4, not including final) is worth 500 points and the final is worth 2000 points! Need to put in a lot of study time to understand. But he's really friendly so asking questions is easy. Attendance isn't madnitory but his lectures are helpful to attend.
Best teacher I've ever had! He's difficult but is so knowledgeable and goes the extra mile for students (records all his lectures, stays after class to help) He's very passionate about teaching and it shows. Confused why people think his tests are hard, just need to study. If you take his class, YOU will learn so much.
At first his class will be very difficult, but AP II is hard no matter what. Keep studying asking questions and most of all form a study group because that's the key to an A in his class! His tests are cumulative so he makes you constantly study everything from day one until the final. He offer so many resources to help you succeed and do your best
Professor Strond's class was hard, but I came to enjoy studying the material because he made it enjoyable. The hardest part was that everything was cumulative(meaning you had to study all the time)He really knows what he's talking about and wants everyone to succeed. I would take the class again, one of the most caring/supportive professor I've had
AP 2 is a tough class. However, he does everything he can to make you succeed. YOU have to put in the work. He records his lectures and goes further to prepare you for the lecture exams. (make sure to memorize the images: and practice the matching EARLY; it's all accessible through his page.) Although I didn't pass, it wasn't due to his methods.
Look anatomy and physiology I is hard regardless. Mr Strond gives you all the materials you need that is in d2l portal. you really REALLY need to study this course. this is something you need to put blood sweat and tears into. If you have questions, ask mr strond, form study groups, or attend open lab sessions. Those are life saver choices.
He was the greatest, most dedicated, interested/interesting, thoughtful professor I have ever had. Previous exams (and lab exams) are provided as review (there's NO excuse for not passing). All lecture PowerPoints, Videos (in detail with specifics of what you need to know, and Audio (every lecture and key points for exams) are provided from day 1!!
Goes through his slides explaining the things you need to know. He tells relatable stories which are interesting. He really cares for his students, he even called me to make sure I got the final exam. The course, however, is tough no study guide is given, so you have to understand the content. you get to drop 3 low quiz scores and 1 exam score.
Professor Strond was a great professor he truly cares about you and wants you to learn and succeed. Study hard and you will pass. There are 4 exams and 1 final. All his exams consist of matching, short answers and an essay. He drops lowest exam and 3 quizzes. Every lecture is online. One of the best professors.
Prof. Strond was amazing to have. He was an insane amount of online resources which came in handy when the pandemic hit. He records all of his lectures online. A&P is a content heavy course but as long as you read you will be fine.
One of the best professor I have ever had. Even though there is a lot to learn in this class, professor makes it quite easy. He explains everything pretty well and there are lecture videos posted online. Make it to class every week so you wont miss out on anything. His exams might look tough, but in reality you will have learned everything on it!
Be ready to teach yourself a majority of the content, but if you put the work in, you'll be okay. So many easy extra credit opportunities. Such a kind-hearted guy, but can get off topic easily and tells many stories. Gives study guides but the most difficult things are on the exams. Extra credit opportunities will be your best friend.
Such an awesome professor! He is very understanding and is extremely genuine towards his students. He has a true passion for BIO106 and it shows. Labs are outside which are SO much fun. This class by far has been my favorite class. He really takes a hands on approach. Test heavy, but trust me he is so worth taking!
This is honestly one of the best professors at Oakton. He genuinely cares about his students and wants you to succeed! Your grade is dependent on tests and discussion videos. He gives extensions and lots of extra credit. I didn't get the best scores on the tests but got an A because of all the EC he offered. I love this professor!
Do not take BIO 231 with him! if you don't have background knowledge the class is going to be very difficult. The exams are very long and hard and he expects you to memorize all the bones/muscles etc.. in a very short time. His lectures are all over the place and your grade is based off of the exams and quizzes only.
I don't recommend Professor Strond. His exams are ridiculous; 1st: they were SO LONG & 2nd: they were loaded with information that WE DON'T NEED TO KNOW. Also expect 8 terms and over 25+ diff. options to match them too, some being only 1 word difference, on every one of his exams! If you aren't good with memorizing word by word, DON'T TAKE HIM!
I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk I hate the way that you dress I hate the way you sneak diss, if I catch flight, it's gon' be direct
This IS MY FAVORITE MAN ON THE WHOLE WIDE EARTH. If you're passionate about this then this is your class. If you failed or hate this class-- thats just because you dont care enough. The way he grades is IMPOSSIBLE to fail as long as you are PUTTING IN EFFORT. The kindest man, possibly human being, on the WHOLE EARTH. BILL STROND FOREVER
