One of the best & genuinely kind professors I've had. Very open to questions during class and sincerely tells you students asking him ?'s or correcting him doesn't offend him at all. He made his own handouts that were 1-2 pgs summarizing textbook sections in easy-to-understand language for M325. Tests straightforward, easy if you did the homework.
He is an awesome Calc professor. I was doing well in the class because of him. Sadly, quest makes the tests and the 2nd one was almost impossible to do, forcing me to drop the class. He is really helpful during office hours and works any problem you need help with. If you have to take calc at UT, TAKE HIM. He is extremely helpful and intelligent.
The best professor I've had so far at UT. He's very kind and is genuinely interested in seeing all of his students succeed in the class. He is willing to go beyond what regular professors would do to help his students succeed. If you get the chance to take ANY math course from him in the future, be sure to do it! You won't regret it.
One of the nicest teachers at UT. He wants his students to succeed. However, his tests are all multiple choice and are very difficult. It is hit or miss with his tests. Unfortunately, I missed. Study hard for exams and ask him questions. He will never deny helping you
Best math teacher on campus for sure. The way he teaches is really smooth. Will help you so you can succeed for sure, office hours are really helpful. Nice guys, funny. AMAZING TEACHER.
Best math professor ever! I had never taken Calc. before and really struggled with it at the beginning. He's a very helpful professor who takes time to get to know his students, explain things clearly, and cover the material. Go to office hours, it's very crowded, but extremely helpful!
A gifted teacher. Exellent professor, Crystal clear teaching. If i ever get the chance to sign up for his classes which i require i will for SURE.
Honestly, if you're gonna take M408K, which is a VERY hard class, you should try to have Professor Wolesensky. Bill is probably one of the best lecturersprofs for 408K and truly does wants his students to do better but Quest makes grading extremely tough and out of his control. Just spend ALOT of time reviewing material beforeafter class, not cram
Professor Wolesensky was by far my favorite professor of the year. The flipped classroom with the learning modules and confusing quests were challenging but Professor Wolesensky really wants students to learn. He takes the time to know us personally and really makes an effort to help guide students through this rigorous course.
Dr. Wolesensky is a great professor. He really works hard to make sure you understand the material and will often stay after lectures for 15-20 minutes to answer any questions that you have. Office hours are crazy because everybody goes but he usually does a good job of getting to everybody. If you have to take Calculus at UT take his class.
Best professor I have ever had. Takes time to learn the student's names, even in a class of 100. He is kind, funny, and the most sincere person you will meet. He is encouraging and is willing to help as much as needed. Expect a Quest homework following each class, and a Quest learning module prior to each lecture. He also assigns written homework!
Bill is the man. He is really clear about the material and gives out printed notes with the important stuff. Great class to take as a first upper-division math class. Homework is due once a week and can be long (preps you to be a math major). Primarily proofs. Will try to take him again for number theory. Study for the test and you do well.
Bill is so genuinely kind and cares about his students so much. He was always happy to answer questions in class and explain things more thoroughly. M 340L in general can be hard to wrap your mind around, and honestly most of the material covered seems really pointless. But nonetheless Bill was amazing and I highly recommend him for M 340L.
Best professor I've had at UT and I've been here for awhile. I don't even like math, but thinking about taking another math class with Wolesensky. Exams have proofs, but he explains concepts so well that they aren't too bad. Retaking this after Gilbert's M340L, which was easier, but bc Wolesensky teaches so well this class seems easier
Awesome professor, absolutely the best one I have taken so far. Take notes and study them, he goes over what he feels is important and uses them on exams. Do your homework, it will be in your best interest. LISTEN, he gives you hints so you will do well. Bill answers any and all questions and is very nice to his students. Sign up while you can!!!!!
Took him during the summer session. He was by far one of the best professors i've ever had at UT. He tries his best to make everything clear and he really cares about his students. Its easy to get an A in his class if you do all the Homework and attend lectures. I would definitely take him again if he is teaching another class.
This is the best math professor I've had at UT. He is extremely good at explaining new concepts to students. He is also a very nice guy and makes a great effort to help anyone who needs it.
Bill is by far the best math professor I've ever had! He is amazing at explaining concepts and wants every student to succeed. He loves feedback and class participation, so he notices who doesn't come to class (it's not mandatory but extremely helpful). I would take him for any math course because he is clear and just a kind person in general.
He's so great. He explains things in a different, more understandable way than the book. He's always super available and interested in helping students. He really loves and cares about what he does.
Bill is the man. Makes an effort to learn everyone's name. He holds the best office hours - helps you on anything and everything as long as you also go to class and TA sessions. Super nice guy. Gives two midterms and a final. Structured where 4/6 easy, 1/6 semi-difficult, 1/6 difficult. Lots of HW, but if you can do it all, you'll do well on exams!
His students call him Bill because he is more like a really cool dad than a teacher. I had trouble with precal in the beginning of the course so he loaned me his own precalculus prep book. He made a super hard subject easy to understand. Calculus wont be a breeze no matter who you have but he will make it way easier and make you excited for math.
Bill is absolutely fantastic. This was not an easy course, but he made it enjoyable. He is always in his office helping his students. The best professor I have ever had! I truly loved his class.
Bill was an outstanding professor! Definitely take his class, you wont regret it. Hes an amazing lecturer and cares about his students. He should teach lecturers how to lecture. 10/10
Although attendance isn't mandatory, go to class. He explains the topics well, often starting briefly with theory leading into examples. Pay attention in class, it'll save you time. DO THE HOMEWORK. It takes a good amount of time - do it anyways. If you understand the homework assigned, expect to do well in the class. He's a great person/professor
Bill was honestly the best teacher I've ever had. He was instantly a professor that showed that he cared about the subject and his students. Be ready for a lot of learning modules and homework, but doing them is definitely worth it. If you do them and show up for the discussion sections, you'll definitely be ready for an test that he gives.
Bill is a great teacher. He was always very clear, clearly likes to teach, and makes sure that there are no random things on quizzes or tests that could surprise you. With that said, he is a tough grader and does not make tests very easy. He also basically refuses to give curves. I loved the class though and I would take it again with him.
Honestly, he's probably the best professor I've had at the University of Texas. He really cares about his students, and if you have any problems he'll work with you. He's open about his policies, and respects you. His class is hard, yes, but that's because it's a hard subject in general. If you read the book and the homework, you'll do well.
One of my favorite professors at UT. He truly wants you to do well and is very open for feedback/questions in and out of class. Homework isn't mandatory but you NEED to do it to do well. Best math teacher here and after some rough past experiences he helped me fall back in love with math.
Best math professor I've ever taken. Really understands how hard math can be and is very approachable. Grades partial credit very fairly on tests and also has weekly quizzes during discussion to help your grade. I could not recommend him more. You have pre-class modules and homework after every lecture though, so stay on top of it.
Go to class and do all of the homework as well as the weekly quiz. If you work for the A, you will get it.
Great professor. Really cares more about you understanding concepts and learning to think critically, rather than whether or not you can remember formulas.
Literally the best professor I've ever had. He is genuine, caring, and really wants your success. ALWAYS makes time for students, NEVER makes you feel dumb or inadequate for not understanding something. One of the best guys I know. I wish he were my father.
Great class and not so challenging. If you miss a class session the textbook should help out. Great professor and fun class.
He's very straightforward and considerate of his students, remembers the names of those who show up to office hours or ask questions in class. Course material was easy to understand even if you miss class. He walks through homework problems during lecture, though, and I benefited just by going to class and listening to his lecture. An awesome prof!
I took Bill for his Intro to Math class, it was really easy. He takes his syllabus seriously so make sure you read it. IF you don't show up to class don't ask what you missed because he won't tell you. He's a really cool guy.
Bill is hilarious and so nice! Go to class though. Skipping will get you very lost. He is a super lenient grader though. At the end of my class he made an A a 91 when its usually a 93.
Such a great professor! Not a super difficult math class, and he makes it so fun. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I don't recommend skipping because you'll be very lost. There are homework assignments due every Friday, but you have all week to do them and he goes over lots of questions in class. Really nice/funny guy who cares about his students.
It's pretty easy to tell based on all of these other reviews, but Bill is definitely one of the best professors at UT. The only people that didn't do well in the class are the people that didn't show up, because Bill will answer any questions you have on the homework during lecture time. Take advantage of this, he is so wonderful!
He was a great professor, very knowledgeable and fun. Helped me see math in a new light.
Wolesensky is the MAN. He clearly cares about his students. He offers extra credit sometimes, is available through email and office hours, and he makes an effort to learn everyone by name. There's weekly homework though, so make sure you attend class to at least keep up. Overall though, he's a great guy and I always recommend him.
Had him for Intro to Math, one of my favorite teachers! Homework due once a week, but super easy to get good grades on and helped my average in the class. He will email out surveys about twice the semester and will give you extra credit for taking them. Go to class if you can because he will discuss exam questions.
Best teacher ever. Honestly so nice and extremely helpful. This was one of the easiest classes i've ever taken at UT but was also totally enjoyable. 10/10 would recommend
Best teacher I have ever had. I go into his office hours every week for homework help and he's great. He genuinely cares about his students and we actually learn useful things. He's great at explaining things, and totally fine with tons of questions. He has taught us tricks to gambling and tells us stories about his dogs. 11/10 would take again.
Bill honestly cares about his students and tries so hard to help you succeed. Class was extremely easy if you just show up and lectures are enjoyable and easy to follow. As someone who hates math classes, I would take this again because of Bill. Amazing professor. I can't recommend him enough.
He is an amazing professor. He's the only one that I've had at UT so far that genuinely and fully cares about his students. He really makes it clear that he's more interested in making sure you understand the material rather than trying to just cram a bunch of different topics. His pace is great and yet you still cover so much material.
Bill is the best professor I had this semester and I would take his class over and over just for him. He truly cares about his students and never treats us like we're stupid. I already took calculus in high school so his class is super easy. The tests are similar to the problems we do for homework and worksheets. Tons of things are dropped. Easy A.
This professor is amazing! The class is really easy if you pay attention and actually work on each homework. By doing all the homework you study for the test. He is extremely nice and was willing to write me a recommendation letter on a different semester that I took his class on.
Calculus is a scary class to take, but this professor made me love it. He is supper helpful and kind. He makes sure everyone of his students understands the material before moving on. I really enjoyed his class and would 100% take it again.
Bill is the best professor at UT! He is like a dad and the sweetest man ever. He is a great teacher and always does what's best for his students. He makes calculus enjoyable and easy to learn. His TA Sam is not good but Bill makes it worth having a bad TA. He has pushed back due dates multiple times because he knew we were stressing over it.
If you are a bio major in need of a calculus credit, I highly recommend taking 408R with Bill. Everyone in my class adores him. He is incredibly caring and patient and willing to slow things down to help you understand. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. There are times when the course is difficult but it is worth it.
Bill genuinely cares about the subject he is teaching and puts a lot of effort into his class. If you took calculus in high school, this class will be a breeze.
Bill is the best. Such a great person and makes you want to go to class. Didn't take calc in highschool and was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Most kids that took AP calc are breezing through
Bill is the best math teacher I have ever had. He genuinely care about all of his students, and even makes an earnest effort to learn names. I took calculus in high school, so the class was easy, but his teaching style helped me to understand all of the math I had just memorized. If you are a natural science major, take this class.
Bill is the BEST professor I had this semester. He's a genuine guy with nice stories and a good sense of humor. He cares about each of his students and I suggest going to his office hours to get to know him. I already took AP calculus so almost everything was review. Grades fairly and generous with partial credit. Enjoyed this class so much
Bill is one of the few professors that gives partial credit on tests and is open to questions. However, unless you have previous calculus knowledge this class is challenging. The class is a flipped teaching style where you do previous course work before class to learn the material and come to class ready to ask questions.
I love Bill so much! His Hw is usually a lot of work but he tells you at least a week in advance and you also have the syllabus to remind you. He's a super chill teacher and always cracking jokes. Please go to his office hours and I promise you'll become besties with him and the class will become much more easier to get an A in.
Bill is by far my FAVORITE professor I've had! Not only is he an extremely sweet, dad-like man(yes he makes dad jokes and wears the dad outfit),but he TRULY cares about his students. He had like 200 students and he knew all our names. I've always been terrible at calculus, but Bill made it understandable and doable. Do your homework&you'll be fine!
Honestly, if you are a bio major looking for an easy calculus class Bill is your guy. Just take M408R with him, and you will be set. The textbook is free and is online. Discussions are mandatory, lecture not so much but who wouldn't want to be at his lecture. A lot of homework. Exams are easy if you know your stuff. He drops a couple of grades.
Bill is such an amazing professor! He explains everything so well and cares about his students. I completely failed calculus in high school but this class ended up being my highest grade my first semester. His tests are very easy and he drops so many low grades that its honestly super hard to not get an A.
Great professor who is incredibly understanding and loves to teach. His tests are generally only a couple of questions, so if you know the material you can finish quick. Math modules every other class, only about 4 questions. He made math interesting for the first time.
Best professor ever.
Bill is the best and most caring professors I have had. He truly wants everyone to understand calculus and is always willing to explain concepts that people are struggling with. His tests never have any surprise questions, instead theyre usually questions similar to those that appeared in the homework a lot. He truly wants his students to do well.
Bill was one of the kindest professors and people I have ever met. His class is very easy if you pay attention and do the work like he instructs and assigns. He truly cares about his students doing well, and works to make sure students understand the concepts comfortably. Best Calc. professor at UT!
Great professor that is focused on his teaching. I would be cautious because he expects people to know about Cal before even taking it. Without my high school experience, I would've struggled severely. Curved grading near the end.
This class is probably one of the more easier calculus classes at UT, but you definitely have to work for your grade. I wish I had taken more advantage of his office hours because he is the sweetest professor ever and truly wants to help his students. His lectures can sometimes be tough to follow but he does explain things well if you ask for help.
Took him for M302 and loved it! I was iffy about this course because I'm horrible at math, but it was ridiculously easy. Bill does a great job of explaining things and the course load is pretty light. 10/10 recommend.
Bill, how he prefers to be addressed, is an amazing professor. He clearly cares about his students and is willing to help you no matter what. The class material was pretty light and tests were pretty easy.
The best professor at UT. 10/10. His main goal is to see you succeed in his class and will help you every step of the way. There is no reason why you can't make an A in his class. He puts in 100% to make sure you understand the material. A dad. A true man. The world doesn't deserve Bill. If you have the opportunity to take him, do it.
Nicest professor ever! Also does a good job explaining math to students who are not engineering majors.
Bill is honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. He cares about every student and makes an attempt to know everyones name. He answers every question respectfully and clearly. Also incredibly fun to just talk to. If you want to learn calculus or gardening, talk to Bill.
Bill is by far the best professor at UT and the best I have ever had. He makes a really difficult class much more enjoyable and easy to understand. If you can take him for any reason, you should. He is just an awesome professor and and an awesome guy. His exams are mixed of easy and very difficult, so although he is great, the class is still hard.
Material is difficult. All Calc is standardized so he really has no control over the material. Bill however, is by far the best professor because not only is he inspirational but an AMAZING teacher. Take him.
Bill is the perfect professor. Diff Eq. is a stressful class but he's got your back.
He is an actual angel. This review is a few semesters late, but I had to come back and let y'all know how great he is. Go to office hours because he's the sweetest thing and loves getting to know and help his students. If you don't need help, go anyway, he's such a joy.
Bill is the best professor I have ever had! Differential Equations is not an easy class, but Bill made it so much more fun and accessible than any other professor could have. You will NEED a study group for 427J, and Bill encourages it. Overall, great person and great professor! Get me a man that treats me like Bill treats his students.
Bill is an amazing person, and care about his students!!! Go to his office hours!!! I had class during his office hours, and I truly believe I would have done better if I went to his office hours. The textbook is a VERY tough read, so get as much help as you can. Most of his quizzes and tests were fair, except his final was incredibly hard.
Bill is honestly one of the best options possible to take for any math course. He is one of the kindest and actually cares if his students succeed. Of course, if you don't put in the work then that's on you, but he'll do everything in his power to help. Take advantage of office hours. Take him if you can.
The best professor I've ever had at UT. He made Number Theory very interesting. His lectures were great, and he thoroughly answered any questions that were had. He encourages questions and wants every student to succeed. I don't know what else you could want from a professor.
I love this guy. Take him. Period.
Great teacher, really helpful. Class is tough but very worth it. 12/10 recommend for anyone. It's math so of course its hard, but great teacher, great learning environment, could not speak more highly of Bill or his class.
Bill is one of the best teachers I've ever had in my scholastic career. He is extremely caring about his students and makes sure the concepts he's teaching are being understood clearly to all of his students. He loves when people ask him questions! I'm so lucky to have him for my first semester here, and I'm trying to take him again for spring!
Bill is one of the best professors I have had so far. He genuinely cares about his students and loves it when you ask questions. He is such a positive person and makes learning about calculus less painful. DEFINITELY take his class if you are able to.
Bill is the best professor at UT. He cares about every student he teaches. He is very understanding and compassionate for his students. He grades very fair, and always gives good feedback on your grades. The class material is very difficult but he will help you if you're stuck. Go to his office hours. But, they get crowded- so get there early.
Dr. Bill is the KINDEST, most FAIR professor. If you took Calculus in high school this class will not be hard, but he does challenge you to think about things conceptually and not just simply memorize formulas. Genuinely cares and wants to make sure every single student understands the material. Best professor for a first semester student!
Most caring teacher I've encountered. Lectures are definitely optional but I went just because he's a pleasant dude. He sometimes assigns a lot of homework but its pretty reasonable and straightforward. The graded worksheets in discussion can be tough on a time constraint but they are doable if you understand everything.
Though I completely dreaded the idea of taking calculus, Bill made the class manageable and enjoyable through his teaching. Make the effort and an A is obtainable. Extremely sad not to have him teaching me next semester!
Absolute best professor at UT! I had never taken calculus before this class and I passed with a high A because of his amazing teaching skills and clear lecturing. He was always easy to reach either threw email or office hours as well if any student ever had a question. Loved this class even though it was 5 days a week with discussion. Take Bill!
TAKING LAB DIFFERENTIAL & INTEGRAL CALCULUS FOR BIOLOGISTS RIGHT NOW! COOL GUY!
Bill teaches calculus like it's your first time exposed to the subject. He is very patient and ready to answer any questions you might have. There are group projects, homework, and the exams. The homework isn't too difficult, and he does some of the problems together in class.
Bill is a saint. Hes the most amazing person when it comes to explaining mathematical concepts, and when you dont understand something, hell do whatever it takes to help you. He is the least intimidating 6 8 man youll ever encounter, and is easily the highest quality professor at UT. He cares about his students, both as students and friends.
This is exactly how classrooms should be. This environment allows students to ask questions, raise concerns, practice and make mistakes without fearing the outcomes. He assigns a lot of homework, but it is all very low stakes and really helps drill the material. Bill was born to teach. He is such an incredible person.
Bill is seriously one of the nicest men I've ever met. If you're a Bio major and took a form of AP calc, the class is an easy A. Even if you haven't taken calc before, it just isn't very in depth and it so worth a 4 hour credit. I barely studied for the class and made A's on every test.
Many of the other professors at UT did not give a toss about whether or not we UNDERSTOOD something. And if we didn't, they would berate us and say, "You should know this by now". This is not Bill (he goes by Bill). His exams are significantly easier than any other professor that I've had because he checks for understanding, not just quest.
Bill, as he likes to be called, is so dope. There is a reason why he has a 5.0. I'm serious. He is such a great guy and goes to his office hours. Also, he cares about your success and he is the best calculus professor at UT. Fair class. 5 days a week but he makes calculus bearable and easy to understand. TA was chill. Work on hw early. Best prof.
Bill is easily one of the best professors at UT. He takes great pride in his teaching and makes it his own goal to have all of his students understand the material no matter the difficulty, and even remember students' names! The material covered can get tricky, and I advise to visit him during his office hours, he always wants to help his students!
I took 408R and he made it so interesting and worth your time. Lectures and expectations are clear. Tests are easy if you go to class, discussion, and do the homework that can be lengthy. 408R is an easy way to get calc credit if youre a bio major. Plus, Dr. Wolesensky is the sweetest and an amazing professor!
If you ever have a chance to take 408R with Bill, don't hesitate, take the class. Bill is the kindest, nicest, happiest, and smartest professor I have EVER met. he is so approachable, funny, and just so kind that I cant even explain. The class is easy, but the homeworks can be lengthy. But never fear! Bill ALWAYS goes above and beyond to help.
Bill is the highlight of my day everyday. It is sad that I do not have more time in his class. He re-motivates me in lecture not only in math but in everyday life and for my other classes as well. If you are lucky enough to get him as a professor, do NOT hesitate.
This is the best professor I have ever had. This man is amazing and truly cares about his students. The class is not difficult at all, even if you have never had calculus you will probably make an A. He truly deserves 5 stars and if you can you should take his class. You will not regret it.
All I have to say about this man is good things. Ive never been very good at math and Ive never understood it better than when taught by Bill. He is kind, patient and more caring than any professor Ive ever had. There is a heavy homework load, but Bill is always accessible and makes ample accommodations. Absolutely worth every minute I spent!
Professor Wolesensky is the only professor that I've ever had who truly cares about his students. He tried to get to know each student and he genuinely cared about our success and wellbeing. The class is difficult if you did not come in with calculus background but he makes it manageable! He loves math and he is so brilliant it blew me away!
Bill is the best prof I have ever had at UT so far. He is kind, caring, personable, and understanding-I wish all of UT profs were just as great as Bill. I took M408N and M308S with him and excelled in both of the classes with no prior calculus background. His class exemplifies that if you put in the work and stay focused, nothing is impossible!
Best professor ever. Bill really cares about his students and wants them to get more out of his class than just math knowledge. Go to office hours so he gets to know you and it makes it more fun, also it is just helpful for the projects. The homeworks are long but they are helpful. Tests are not bad if you have a grasp on the (cool) concepts.
Best professor at UT. I took 408R with him and that was the best decicion I made all year. If you have the chance to take his course you better do it. Hes such a nice professor and he genuinely cares for all his students. Best part of my semester hands down. Also his class is a really really easy A if that's all you care about.
Literally the best professor on campus by far! I hate math with a passion but he made it so much easier to understand and learn it the way it is supposed to be taught not just so u can get the right answer but to actually understand deeply what are you doing.
Hands down the best professor on campus by miles!! He cares so much about your character and easily will help if you ask! Plus he is 6'9 ft so that's also a plus lol
Best professor I've EVER had. Let me tell you -- I hate math. Detest it. So I was super scared to take this class because I've heard terrible things about UT calculus. But Bill helped me ENJOY math. Go to his office hours! It's like hanging out with a good friend. He is so nice, chill, funny, inspirational, and has a heart of gold. I <3 Bill!!!
Bill is hands down the best professor I have had for UT. Take him for business calc!! He really cares about his students and was very understanding the whole semester especially due to the hardships of corona. Bill made me appreciate calculus more and use it in real life. You will not regret taking his class.
Bill is an angel of a human. Consider yourself lucky if you are able to have him. Even in a big class, he will learn your name and just want to learn about you as a person. He has so much genuine love for his students, and loves to tell you how smart you are. Best confidence boost of my day. Lots of homework but you won't even care bc he's Bill
I wish every single math teacher I had was like Bill. The man is kind, understanding, a good teacher, and truly cares. He is probably one of the greatest professors to walk this Earth. Thank you Bill, not only made me enjoy math, but you made me enjoy life. And, I mean that sincerely :)
He is a very caring professor and knows how to teach calculus in a way that is easy to understand. I had him as a professor for two semesters and loved it. His work isn't intense if a problem is hard he is always available at office hours or right after class.
By far the greatest professor at the university. His passion for teaching and math is so obvious and hes so inspirational. He does everything to make sure students genuinely understand the topic and will do anything to help every student pass.
I mean there is a reason he has the best rating at UT!!!! TRUST ME when I say that Bill is the GOAT, consider it a privilege if you have him. He actually cares about everyone in the class and will help you succeed. Dw if you are not good at maths/calc he makes the content extremely understandable. So yeah, take him for business calc!
Bill is by far my favorite professor at UT. It is obvious how much he cares about his students, as well as how passionate he is about his work. Lectures are engaging as he works to make the curriculum applicable and relatable (something in which I thought was impossible for a subject such as calculus).
Best professor ever. I regret not getting to know him. He cares so much about his students and wants everyone to do well. A lot of different assignments but it doesn't really matter because grading is so lenient (he drops a lot). If you took calc in high school you will be more than prepared. He also talks about his old beef jerky business a lot.
Absolute lad.
Bill is seriously the best professor I've had at UT. Math has never been my strong suit, but he makes it very easy to understand. His lectures are very relaxed and he's excellent at explaining the material. The homework assignments are extensive and a lot to keep up with, but his office hours are very helpful! Definitely take this class!
Bill was a really great professor, the class was manageable, however it does require a lot of outside learning. It also requires group projects which aren't bad if you get a good group as the assignments do need to be approached from every perspective. Discussion days were felt very pointless and the TA was not much help at all but was very bubbly.
I LOVE HIM! He truly cares about his students & gives good feedback. He teaches you not only math concepts but how to implement them into real life situations you'd use. Lectures were not mandatory but highly recommended. Discussion sections were mandatory though. You have to work for your grade just like any other class but it was not too much.
He doesn't like teaching the material but likes to see how students try to find an answer. All learning is done outside of class even though it is a 5 hour course. All assignments other than the tests can be done with a group. Homework assignment due every two weeks but it is very difficult and time consuming.
Dr. Bill is one of the most sincerest professors I've had at UT. He truly cares about the success of his students and will do his best to give you everything you need to be successful. Homeworks aren't hard and the group projects were okay.
GREAT! Office hours are definitely helpful if you don't understand the material. It's usually pretty crowded tho.
p cool guy
Bill is incredibly caring and a great prof. He breaks down more complex ideas and topics into simpler terms and shows you exactly why math shortcuts work. He wants you to do well and the workload is more than fair. There is a lot of homework, but you have more than enough time if you don't procrastinate. It's an easy A, but you have to try.
Hard topics for those who don't really know math, but awesome prof
he did his best to remember every student's name and was a very cool professor. 10/10
Gr8 guy
Gr8 guy*
Do well on ur mini projects. If you make it v nice and organized, hell give you extra pts!
Lots of work outside of class, but bill will help if you email/go to office hours.
What a guy 10/10
Bill is the BEST professor I have ever taken. He genuinely cares for his students and made the transition to online VERY fair. He will stay after class to help you and he responds to his emails/piazza very fast. There are homeworks and group projects that may take a long time, but he will help! Lots of opportunities for extra credit. TAKE HIM!!!
Mini projects take up lots of time, but was okay. Prof Wolesensky is always very helpful.
Bill is such a wholesome guy. Does his best to interact w all his students.
he's so knowledgeable and nice!
I took Bill last year and he was an amazing professor. He cares about his students deeply and is willing to help you as much as possible. In terms of his Calculus class: it is very lecture heavy, and you definitely have to put in some study time to learn the material. He makes his lectures fun, interactive and interesting- and he's the best.
Bill has been literally the best professor I have ever taken at UT. He cares for every student and knows how to teach his audience amazingly. Please take him and experience a true UT Professor.
I took this class online and while his lecture style rly wasnt the best for me, this was def an easy A- especially if youve taken calculus before. LOTS of homework .... so much homework... but hes rly understanding of that. Just stay on top of your work and hes rly easy on grading
Dr Bill is amazing. He truly cares about learning and understanding. He makes himself super available to students when they need help and always goes above and beyond to answer questions. He also never assumes you should know something and make ask questions a very comfortable thing! Im not the kind of person to leave a review, but Hes that good
He will 100% be the best professor you will have, especially in a subject like Math. He has a way of simplifying what would usually be complex and intimidating concepts to something anyone can do.
Dr. Bill is definitely one of the best professors at UT. He is very interested in the success of his students and has a clear passion for the material, which makes it easier to learn. Additionally, he is extremely supportive, encouraging, and patient. Whenever I needed help, he is always there. I would miss his classes next year.
I loved Dr. Bill. I took Business Calculus this past semester, and he was extremely helpful. He wants his students to do well. Homework is hefty but very helpful for tests. Not difficult to get an A+ if you do all your work.
Easy A if you have taken Calc before in HS, Gives a fair amount of HW IHW ( bimonthly), HW (biweekly), Group Projects (4-5), Quest (1-2x week). Drops LOTS of grades and gives out extra credit. Is immensely understanding, patient, and generous. Our class really loved him. Wonderful professor!
Greatest math teacher/professor I've ever had. Honestly the GOAT. For my class, he allowed people with a 93+ average not take the final exam. A lot of homework and worksheet assignments, which are annoying to do because you have to take a photo of your work and upload it all to your computer/canvas, but the hard work definitely pays off.
Dr. Bill is hands down the best math teacher I have ever had. If you struggle in math classes, take Dr. Bill. He explains calculus concepts in a way that makes sense, and is willing to work with you to improve your grade. As long as you try your hardest in his class, it will reflect on your grade.
Best professor I've had at UT. Understanding, caring, passionate, and knowledgeable. Great guy and really wants to see you succeed.
Easily the most accommodating and respectable professor I've had at UT. Truly cares about his students and will 100% work with you if you need any extensions or help. The class itself is heavy as there are worksheets & learning modules every tues/thurs, 6 homeworks, and 3 midterms but overall basically impossible to not get an A. Take him for sure!
Bill is by far the nicest and most caring professor I have had during my time at UT. He truly cares for each student and truly ensures that we understand the material. He never makes us feel dumb when asking questions. He is very understanding and has extended several deadlines due to COVID and the winter storm. I love this man
He is the best. He is the definition of gentlemen.
Dr. Wolesensky was awesome, easy professor overall! He allowed us to take individual exams at most 25 hours, which was great. He even wanted you to understand basic ideas of analysis. However, I wish there was bit less groupwork since we lose bit of learning, doesn't work well on zoom. He could also respond to emails better, faster. TA grades hard.
He's good take the the class
Luv this man
Amazing professor!! So kind and receptive to his students needs.
Very helpful during office hours! Grades fairly and is a great person and professor.
Prof BIll is awesome. Super caring and loves what he teaches, always willing to help students if they need it. There was a LOT of work, something due pretty much every day, but Prof Bill is very understanding and knows that we have a lot of other work in other classes as well. Not the easiest class but helpful.
Dr. Bill truly cares about the success of his students. His grading is clearly set and fair. He is literally one of the nicest most genuine people I have met. His lectures are more real-world based and he loves telling stories. 3 midterm tests worth 15% each with the possibility of opting out of final if you have a 93%. 100% would take class again.
Professor Wolesensky made his class feel welcoming and addressed every single student with great care and respect. His lectures were very detailed and it was obvious that he delivered them with a lot of passion, which made his class that much more enjoyable.
Bill is super caring and although the class can get tough at times, he is extremely fair and approachable. I can tell he wants the best for his students. Although the class is meant to be "entry-level", I would definitely recommend having some background in calculus. If not, you'll just have to work harder.
Dr. Bill is an incredible professor. In STEM, it can be hard to find professors who actually care about their students, but Bill does. He always has a smile on his face when he's teaching, and he's so kind when speaking to students in class. Plenty of EC opportunities, gives lots of feedback, and always extends due dates. MUST take.
Really cares for his students and really wants them to learn. Definitely take him if you have not taken calculus before.
Bill is amazing. He is going to remind you again and again how much he cares, but he means that sincerely. Teaches calc in a way that you'll be able to keep up if you've never taken a single calc course. Very willing to be available for office hours and extra help. Take him if you can!
Bill really made me love calculus despite my history of hating math. He taught in a concise manner that made sense, was available for OH, and genuinely cares about his students. Tests were easy as long as you did the homework, mini projects with other group members were simple as long as you have a good group. HW is tedious, do it early.
Best freaking math professor at UT, especially for freshman business calc. Cannot explain how genuine Dr. Bill is and he truly wants to see his students succeed. I do not find math fun but he made class fun and engaging. He teaches more conceptually then caring about all the formulas, which I personally liked more. Such a nice grader. TAKE HIM.
Dr.Bill was an amazing professor, would highly recommend anyone to take him. He is very flexible as long as you communicate with him. Super sweet guy
Bill's class is truly amazing! As long as you listen through lectures, ask questions, and attend your discussion it is very doable. He goes into the semester treating everyone as if they have no prior knowledge of calculus and does his best to go into depth.
I took his M408Q class spring 2022 semester and he was amazing! The most understanding and caring professor. Wants his students to learn and succeed in his class. The HW was a but lengthy but doable and the test were not bad. 3 tests and if you had a 93 or higher you did not have to take the final! There needs to be more professors like Dr. Bill!
Lectures were attendance mandatory but were always very engaging and slow-paced for comprehension. Homework was assigned via Quest but were always manageable. Not too assignment heavy, maybe at most twice or three times a week. Exams are in-person and easy as long as you understand the content. Was always trying to motivate and inspire students
Changed my entire attitude toward math because of this man. He will make you feel like you belong in any classroom, even if you come in completely rusty or lost on the subject material. Thanks to his teaching methods, I've learned HOW TO learn and feel confident that I'll find success at UT. Already registered to take him again next semester.
Bill is a wonderful person, but if you haven't taken calculus already, this class can be difficult. He extended every homework assignment for us and would work with you during office hours or before/after class to answer any questions. Some of the assignments were very difficult, but there was group work and many assignments were dropped at the end
Dr. Bill changed my entire outlook on math. I've struggled immensely with math since elementary school, but he breaks it down so wonderfully and really stresses the importance of understanding what you're doing. Exams are incredibly straightforward. HW can get long and time-consuming, but he's super communicative and will help you if you're stuck.
GO TO LECTURE and you will do amazing. Ask him questions on Ed Discussion, he will be happy to explain. He's seriously the best professor I've had here. He's so nice and really does care about his students. Final is optional. If you take the final he drops several assignments and replaces your lowest test score. Highly recommend Dr. Bill!
Wolesensky is easily my favorite professor at UT and is the best I've had so far at explaining confusing concepts. I had to drop my calc with Mills last semester so having a good prof this time around made all the difference. This class is straightforward and tests are very similar to lectures/homework, just need to stay on top of quest modules.
If given the option, TAKE HIS COURSE. The class uses Quest for around 90% of the assignments, so make sure to keep up with homework, and learning modules. Attendance is not mandatory, but I would highly recommend going to them since Professor Bill fills in the gaps from the learning module and just explains concepts really well.
Bill was one of the best professors I've had. He explains things very thoroughly and makes sure that everyone understands. Attendance isn't mandatory but GO ANYWAY. You will be behind. He makes lectures fun, and he has good life advice along with it. He truly wants you to succeed and will get to know you as a person. 100000% recommend him
Dr. Bill is such an amazing person. Respectful and inspiring, he really cares for each one of his students, and also gives great life advice. He is also so nice and approachable. Go to every lecture and take good notes, because he will make you really understand calculus. Do the home works well because they are good test prep. Take Dr. Bill!!
3 midterms & final, but final was easy and even replaced our 2 lowest midterms which imo is very generous. Quest HWs and LMs every week that can be challenging but Bill is very helpful in OHs. Lecture attendance isn't mandatory but I'd still try to go to them since he explains concepts and potential exam questions really well in class. Loved him.
You will never find anyone else like him in UT. He is an amazing character and an even more amazing professor. Most of your learning is done through the homeworks given and he provides A LOT of resources for you to use in order to be successful. He is the most caring professor on campus; HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Dr. Wolesensky is definitely one of the best professors at UT Austin, and without a doubt the best Math professor, so I would highly encourage you to take his class if you have the opportunity. Do not skip class, it will only hurt you. Put the effort into the class, it will be tough at times but you will certainly enjoy the reward in the end.
dr Bill will teach us that visually really well and I enjoyed his lecture style. His exams were group based with an individual component. It is not necessary to read the textbook but if you read along with the textbook then the course is extremely good because he follows along with each individual theorem. Take him. You'll learn a lot.
This class is more of studying on your own. There are biweekly homeworks that stress you out because he only grades 4 of them but there are at least 15 questions that take hours to do. People give him great ratings but all his lectures do not help on the homework. Also, get ready to code with Matlab and read the textbook
Although math has always been a difficult subject for me, I enjoyed having Bill as my professor! He truly cares about your success and stands out as the most compassionate instructor I've had. Don't slack off you'll definitely want to read the textbooks, practice the problems, and go to office hours. You'll make an A if you put in the work.
very easy, great professor. You do not need to know calculus for this class
Dr. Bill is an amazing professor for calculus. He not only is very knowledgeable, but he is very supportive and accommodating. He teaches his classes step-by-step which is super helpful when I had no prior knowledge of calculus. I definitely recommend attending his office hours because he is super nice. He also grades very kindly!
Professor Bill was an amazing teacher who truly cared about his students. He is super kind and a very generous grader too. His tests were easy and graded for partial credit. The homework assignments are a bit long, so it's best to work with a few people. Overall, I loved taking this class and learning from Professor Bill!
Dr.Bill teaches calculus in a different way than you may have learned previously, but he does it well with so much passion. You can clearly tell he wants all of his students to succeed. The homework is sometimes challenging, but he gives you the support you need, and the tests are always fair.
Not mandatory attendance. Lectures cover a lot of questions from the individual homework. Discussions are based off the graded worksheets. Learn from the weekly 2-3 questlinks (textbook and video style with 2-7 graded questions). Textbook is easy to read and where the homework questions are from. Professor wants you to succeed so put in the work.
Bill was an amazing professor for my first semester at UT; when one could not possibly be more stressed, his class was a welcome reminder that the faculty care about our success and are real people with whom we can develop connections. If you attend lectures, pay attention, and complete the worksheets and homework, you will get an A.
BEST PROFESSOR I've had so far. He cares so much about his students, and recommend 1000%. I couldn't express how good of a professor he is! Of course, this class is not "easy" by any means, you have to put in the work outside of class but an A is definitely manageable. He is so lenient, and grade distributions are fair.
He makes his curriculum much harder then the other professors for M408Q. Would not recommend. Assigns inane amounts of work compared to other professors and makes tests harder. Nice guy but his course is too overwhelming for what it should be.
So grateful I had him in my first year. Learned lots of valuable lessons, not just calc. Dr. Bill is super understanding and kind, and truly cares about his students' success. His assignments are very fair and his exams are very reflective of content learned in discussion/homework. My only regret is not getting to know him on a more personal level.
Very sweet man and grades exams relatively easily, but I feel like we never actually talk about calculus. Would 100% recommend taking the him if you have some prior knowledge of calculus, but if you are brand new to calc and relying on explanation I wouldn't. Assigns time consuming and challenging hw that doesn't really help for test.
Dr. Wolesensky is a sweet guy and I enjoyed his lectures. But, he is not lenient at all over anything, and if u ask for an extension FOR ANY REASON(even 4 serious reasons)he will say no. Here's what got me though: IF YOU WANT THINGS DROPPED YOU MUST TAKE THE FINAL (final is optional but not really). He's so sweet but super traditional academically.
An A is very attainable if you participate. He is a very reasonable guy. 3 exams and final (1 dropped). Not exam heavy: discussions and HW are worth a good amount of grade. His lectures are sometimes unhelpful, because he goes very into detail and won't cover much. He drops 1 HW and 4 WS if you do the final. Extra credit. Lots of group work.
Dr. Bill is hands down the greatest professor of all time. His tests are not to be joked around with they are pretty hard, with exam 2 being the hardest, but he gives partial credit to make up for difficult tests. He is very knowledgeable and without a doubt cares about his students and their learning more than any other professor at UT.
Dr Bill is an incredible professor, he cares very deeply about students and wants to see us succeed. He's very passionate about calculus and has a focus on understanding the material and making connections, referring to calculus concepts often as a "forest" not as "trees". This class is challenging; huge homeworks, mini-projects, but DrBill helps.
GO TO OFFICE HOURS!! Office hours *will* save your grade if you aren't good at math, and he will be very lenient about things so long as you're very respectful. Class is hard but manageable. Assignment heavy. HW are long. Tests are short but hard. Genuinely of of the nicest people I know, he will take an interest in your life outside of class.
Dr. Bill is a passionate professor who wants students to succeed. The class is challenging but manageable with engagement. Homework is time-consuming but helpful. Unstuck ai is a great study tool alongside the free textbook.
TAKE BILL IF YOU CAN! He is an awesome professor who truly cares about his students and learning. If you attend class and discussions, this class should not be challenging.
Dr. Bill is the GOAT. I had a rough math background, but I still got an A because Bill explains well & welcomes questions, even if he goes on tangents sometimes. Individual HW prepares for exams even if bit long. Even if you do badly or miss work, he drops lowest assignment scores & one exam if you do better on the final. Also very understanding!
Bill is a great guy, and wants everyone to succeed. Lots of assignments and group projects, but an enjoyable experience overall. Attend his lectures!
Prof. wolesensky is truly the best professor I have had all four years here at UT austin. He is genuinely so kind and caring and wants all of his students to succeed. Do not be afraid to ask for help or literally anything at all because he is more than happy to help you and wants you to get an A. Highly recommend!!!!
Dr. Bill was amazing!! Definitely take him if you can, he is the OG and is the one who made M408Q, along with the textbook author. His lectures are highly detailed, he took things slowly and fully explained things, including deriving formulas. Tests are not difficult and easier than homework. Great and chill guy all around.
DR BILL IS AWESOME. he seriously cares and believes in the success of all of his students. be ready for lots of homework though. he is so wise and knowledgeable, there is no reason to fail this course.
Goated Professor. I could not ask for a better teacher when it comes to calculus. I suck at calc and Bill still pulled me up to an A. He also makes learning actually enjoyable. His lectures are super engaging and tests are never the grade you get. You can go up to him during office hours and he would just give you 5 extra points. Freshmen are lucky
Professor Wolesensky is the best professor I've ever had. He made calculus genuinely enjoyable, and I looked forward to attending his class. He cares deeply about both students' learning and their grades, offering relatively easy tests and providing ample support.
Wolenensky was the professor that you could tell he cared about his students. He was great at explaining things deeply and effectively. His tests were not too bad. The only complaint I have is that the homework were sometimes extremely long, but they did help prepare you for the tests. As long as you go to class and do HW this class should be easy.
Nice guy but he tests you on stuff that aren't even in the textbook and ONLY covers in class once or twice. His grading on the quiz is also very misleading in comparison to the test so the first exam threw me off with his significantly harsher grading. Overall not bad, but wouldn't take again bc he js doing TOO much for a linear algebra class
Truly cares about every single one of his students. Lectures and discussion sections are soooo helpful, and going to office hours is highly encouraged even if you aren't struggling because Dr. Bill is just awesome. Amazing and kind professor who is truly passionate about calculus. Calculus is a forest.
Best professor I have had. GOAT
TAKE PROFESSOR WOLESENSKY! He's an amazing professor and an even better human. He is extremely non-judgmental and always compliments his students. The HWs can take time but they're perfect prep for tests, which aren't hard. Quizzes are easy too. He answers any HW and concept doubts in office hours. You won't get a better linear algebra professor.
I LOVE BILL!! This professor was such a breath of fresh air. You can tell he loves what he does. He is such a caring man and will take the time to get to know you and teach the material until you understand it. And I feel like that is very lacking in some professors at UT. I will always be so grateful for having Bill during my Freshman year.
Bill is the best professor I've had by far. He is so positive and caring. Math is my least fav subject and I looked forward to his class every day. Work is very manageable... ask questions and actually do the hw! It's test heavy but he gives practice tests that are very similar to tests, so it's really fair! Would take him 100x over :)
He is a nice person but his class is terrible. Grades based basically only on exams which are multiple choice only, no curve & no extra credit at all. concepts are not hard but some questions are way too hard. would not take again
Dr. Wolesensky wants you to succeed and will challenge you in the course. He truly cares about his students' long-term success. Many students wish for a positive outcome but aren't willing to work hard and develop relationships in class with their peers and professor. It will pay off if you keep attending class, smiling, and asking questions.
Dr. Bill is a great lecturer and a kind professor! He really cares about all his students and explains concepts with a lot of clarity. The only thing is that HWs are EXTREMELY long, but he makes up for it with his generous grading distribution. Highly recommend taking this class.
This guy is the best. I learned so much about linear algebra, and so much more about life (seriously) and learning. He opens himself up and gives you the greatest lessons on believing you can learn anything. Onto the real-real. I went to class, but LIVED off that textbook. Textbook's basic concepts + Bill's examples = math magic.
The best math teacher I have ever had. Has such a big heart. So caring. He would make me tear up because he was so sweet and pure. I learned so much and he was so eager to help. He was so down to earth and I will definitely stay in contact with him. He truly cared about his students and their success. Extremely selfless and thoughtful.
He prefers to move slow and ensure deep understanding of topics. Made me feel encouraged to learn and ask questions which is a first for me at UT. He did assign a lot of homework but often times would drop off sections as he wouldn't get to lecture that content in class. He empowered me as a student and I put effort into his class.
he overwhelm my baby
Prof. Wolesensky is very good at going slow and making sure you understand the fundamental concepts of the material. However, sometimes it seemed almost too slow/repetitive. He has a tendency to give the same tangential speech every lecture about how you should approach learning. The homeworks are unbearably long, usually 50-80 drill questions.
Really caring prof. Dr. Bill moves through the material at a good pace, and I've never felt overworked or stressed about this class. He's very clear on what you need to know, and focuses on understanding rather than brute computation. Lot of HW (30ish questions / week), so find a study-buddy to check with. Overall, take him: he's great.
peak professor, highkey goat. very caring and passionate about student success, empowerment, and understanding. 3 exams each with 2 parts, indiv. (60%) and group (40%). very clear and concise explanations of concepts, and easy to approach. very kind and respectful professor. literally best professor ive taken, genuinely kindhearted.
The best teacher i have ever had. Truly one of the most caring humans i have met, he goes above and beyond for any student that asks.
Bill is an awesome calculus professor. The class itself isn't hard at all, but if you've taken calculus before in HS you will be bored. He teaches it different and often gets sidetracked which can be a little frustrating but the material itself is very easy. His midterms are only 4 questions but he releases a one pager of whats guaranteed to be on
He makes sure all his students understand the content deeply and goes very slowly in lectures. However, he has extremely long homework of up to 90 questions every 2 weeks. He's a nice guy and a great professor, especially if you ask questions. Generous grading policy as well.
Bill is kind, but his teaching is chaotic. Lectures constantly derail into random tangents, turning simple math into confusion. Homework is endless and rarely helpful. I had a strong math background yet felt lost. I was in the trenches every week, fighting for my life and self-teaching entire units just to survive.
This class was one of the most exhausting experiences I've had. I left lectures more confused than when I walked in. Please notice that none of his positive reviews praise his teaching — they praise his personality. He's kind, but the class itself is disorganized, overwhelming, and hard to learn from. If you're looking for clarity, it's not here.
Do not like how he teaches AT ALL. Overcomplicates simple concepts and he be doing too much. He is very kind and has generous grading policies. Other than that I had to teach myself the concepts, textbook did not help either, HWs were very long and tbh not very helpful. If u learn better with a straight forward teaching style I wouldn't recommend.
Bill is kind but goes off track sometimes. Lectures are very eye-opening/profound. He teaches calc in a way where you understand how it connects to other concepts thru the semester. But around the end of sem he stopped lecturing the way we were used to and grades started dropping. The textbook recommended didn't help much, tutoring lowk mandatory..
WantEasyA?-dont take him. Although hard, this has been my favorite class so far and I truly believe this class taught me how to (actually)learn. Bill truly cares about his students,is always open to questions, and inspires us to learn to think critically by truly understanding concepts instead of just memorizing. AmazingProfessor+WorthTheCourseRigor
If you have the option to take him, you should. He grades easily and is kind. He cares about a deeper understanding of calc, but at the end of the day, it's up to you how you want to solve his problems. Exams are moderately easy. Bill is amazing!
I love bill-he takes the time to learn every student's name, and is SO inspirational and genuinely a great teacher. However, if u haven't taken calc u have to go to every class to learn since he doesn't record lectures and there is quite a lot of assignments but nothing crazy. Overall he knows his stuff and is understanding - EASY EXAMS
I had never taken cal before & his was class was doable for me. Lectures aren't too helpful so I did find myself teaching myself at times, nothing too complicated. The mini projects/hwk/worksheets are all okay. He's very understanding & is willing to help you. I did okay in the exams, ended up taking the final & even that was a breeze, love bill!
He's a good professor, he cares, and very nice. He emphasizes deep understanding. Lectures are somewhat helpful, but he did go on tangents often, so I did most of my learning outside of class. There's lots of quest HW/LM, but we got drops and I feel like the textbook is optional to buy. Also keep in mind he doesn't really do curves/extra credit.
Bill's class was actually very great. His tests are not bad at all and this coming from someone who never took calc. Only thing is that the review exams he gives before the exams are a tad bit misleading, so study everything thoroughly.
I've never felt so less than in a class. I don't understand why I'm expected to self-teach calculus? When students raised concerns about not learning in class, he stated we'd be lucky to learn 10% of the material during lectures. He tries to be inspirational, which isn't helpful when everyone's burnt out and tired of pushing for an A.
Wwhile I enjoy his lectures, sometimes he lashes out on the class and lectures about not missing class or using AI and feels hostile, but he means well. The exams can be tricky but in argument, it's linear algebra. He does ramble a lot and gives life lessons, and he tries to teach so we understand fundamentally but it can be confusing at times
Profs explanation of key concepts was usually confusing. It was often more straightforward to read the textbook rather than attend lecture, but in-class quizzes make this a dangerous game. HWs were VERY long (~ 70 questions) and consistent with the textbook, but quizzes and exams were more about knowing the smaller details rather than computations.
