Stop now! Take Tom Reed at Melbourne. You'll thank me. Prof. Brown is not helpful. Her personality is lacking. Her tests and time limits are unfair. She does offer a bit of extra credit. Take Tom Reed!
Who ever wrote that other comment must not have been attending class. Even though Ms. Brown is not the easiest teacher, she is very helpful, unintimidating and fair. And definitely gives many extra credit opportunities.
very helpful...Made learning fun and was highly recommended. I wish she taught more classes.she made you think and if you followed the notes there is no room for error. I think the person who wrote the bad report ment it for the speech teacher Nancy Brown.
it was a pretty okay class a couple of points from an a couldnt even give it, good class, teachers attitude is not so good
Not real impressed with her teaching style. Does not seem like she likes it when you ask questions. Did not help out with the lab class. You pretty much sink or swim.
This teacher is a hard one to figure out! She knows what she's talking about, but do you?? Her lectures are directly from her notes, nothing different, cut and dry. Labs are basically you and your partners. I suggest getting in groups w/people who know their stuff, otherwise you'll be lost all semester.
I took her for Bio and Micro, she is a good professor. She lectures from her notes and tests are all from her notes as well. You'll do well if you pay attention and take notes along with her material. As far as labs, get with a smart group!
Her tests were hard, a lot of studying needed! She does give tons of extra credit however, which if all is done really helps the grade!
Horrible Professor! But she's all they got! Which is even worse. You're stuck with her!
Good teacher but not easy. Lots of extra resources;notes, study guides, Powerpoints. Extra credit for lab quizzes, helps with grade.
She was a great teacher. i loved her class.
She is a very nice teacher just pay attention and do well on the labs and you will be fine. Study your lecture materials and you should pass all the tests. Ms Brown is da bomb!!
Ms. Brown is extremely informative, answers questions without hesitation, and gives plenty of opportunity to earn extra credit. The tests are NOT hard, just prepare with the material. I didn't even purchase a textbook - it's not necessary with the hybrid course. Read the lab manual before the labs and you will have NO problems passing.
Take Reed in Melbourne...
If you are interested in actually learning this is the class for you. You will learn a lot in her class. GREAT TEACHER!!! If you study and do your best an A is within your grasp, I got one. Enjoy. I might even add a minor in Micro, it was so fun!!
She was a great teacher!!! I took the hybird class and it was very easy!!! U get to timed test online which are fairly easy as long as you study the lecture notes before you take it!! The labs were really fun as well. She does give plenty of extra credit!!
Ms. Brown is awesome! Her lectures were easy to understand. If you check on Blackboard she also provides class notes, study guides, and her powerpoints. The powerpoints also have self-check quizzes that are very similar to her test questions.
Took zoology online. Instructions for assignments usually weren't clear. Never responded to emails. Home dissections were fun, all the materials were sent for free. Most labs were fun and required taking pictures and going outside. Final exam is only available the week BEFORE finals! All tests, including final were open book/notes.
I liked this teacher a lot! I dreaded having to go to a Bio class first, but this teacher helped me to enjoy it (and easily became one of my fave classes). Plus she gives plenty of extra credit opportunities, so as long as you study the lecture notes, do all the labs, and attend/pay attention to the classes/labs... this class is an easy A or B!
I came into this class hating Biology. I def had to study a lot and I still got a C in the class. Her test are little tricky, they def require a lot of attention. But the labs are easy. You have to make sure to attend class or u will be behind. Nice teacher though.
I took her for biology, I have always hated the subject. But I am pretty sure I am going to get an A in the class. For me it was pretty easy, for others it was really hard. Labs are really easy but the tests are what you have to watch out for. She posts notes up online but they aren't clear. A lot of chances for extra credit and we went canoing!
Ms. Brown is an aweomse biology teacher. I dont like science but she made it easy to understand and shes really helpful, if none science major i'd def recommend her!
Excellent teacher. She posts all notes from class so you can print them without taking them. Labs were pretty fun as well. You get to go out in the canoes at the end of the semester.
She was a really nice teacher. I took her for my first semester at BCC and it definately taught me that you have to study. Her labs are usually very fun and you work in groups. Her tests can be a killer though if you don't study. I passed with an 88.
very easy. her tests were straight from the textbook. not too in depth though just main topics. has plenty of power points online that prepare you for the tests. labs-super easy. class was fun. she was nice and gave her lectures in an organised way. with lecture notes you can print out before the class so you even know what you missed.
Takes a week to answer emails. Not helpful in the lab either.
I'm taking the hybrid version of this class, and it is okay. Basically, the whole course is self-taught. There are no deadlines for the tests - you just have to complete them before finals. The tests are online - timed for an hour, but it's completely open-book, open-note, etc. Ms. Brown is very helpful in the labs.
You have to study for her test and you can't wait till the night before to do so. It was a low maintenence class. There were only labs and tests. She does offer some extra credit. Pre-lab quizzes are extra credit. The class is very boring, but she is very into what she is teaching. I didn't buy the textbook. She gives all notes online.
So far,so good for a Summer class. Summer:do experiments. Fall & Spring: I don't know. I think its better if you take this class for fall or spring. Summer is too short when you have to learn sooo much. Don't bom the tests! try to do all extra credit for a better grade-super recommended- You'll like Mrs. Brown :)

Her labs were fun to leran in class. She aloud people to work in groups, and her exam are a little difficult to understand but easy A in her class
Took for General Biology and Micro. Can work in group for labs.Test are a little hard need to study notes, and show up for labs especially for hybrid couse. All in all,Mrs Brown is da bomb.
Billie is an AWESOME teacher. I had her previously for my BIO 1 class, so I decided to try out her online zoology class. Her tests aren't too hard if you utilize the notes she provides, and her lab assignments aren't hard. She will reply to emails and answer any questions you may have. She really knows her stuff, and she wants you to know it too!!
Confusing class. Hybrid isn't so bad. If you're lab group is helpful or if you're a biology wiz you will do okay.
absolutely loved this class. thought it was going to be hard but is actually easy if you go to class and study. great teacher she will help you if you need it. i would retake if i could.
Took her for a hybrid class enjoyed every minute of it. Not my favorite topic but once I got out of the class I was really interested in biology . Really good teacher makes things very simple to understand. You should study for the test online you can your notes and you don't need your book if you take it hybrid best way to go. Great teacher.
very straight forward class, and she's really nice. just get your labs done and study for the tests and you'll be fine.
Dr. Brown is a nice lady, funny at times, but the material was taught, I feel, like she was teaching to her peers or to someone who already knew the subject. The book was not used at all. Her lecture notes, audio lectures and study guide were EXTREMELY helpful.
She is very nice lady. Her lectures are boring and she doesn't use the book at all. Her test would be easy if u study if not it's going to be hard. Her study guide basically tells you what to expect on her test. The practical isn't hard at all. Its a easy A.
This class is straightfoward. Print out the lecture notes and bring them to class. Her studyguides are a replica to her test. If you commit two hrs. the day before to study you will be fine. Lab final can be a little tough if you don't know what you're doing, so TAKE LABS SERIOUSLY. That way you'll know what you're doing
To be successful in this class print out the lecture notes. Study/review lecture notes two days prior to test. TAKE LAB SERIOUSLY, that way you know what you're doing come lab final. Do pre-lab quizzes online for extra credit. Make flash cards for final and study with a buddy in class. I guarantee you'll get an A like I did =)
I took the hybrid model class during the summer, so I took all the tests online. The tests were easy, and Professor Brown provided lecture notes and study guides that were almost identical to the tests. The lab aspect was interesting, and she was always willing to help if you needed it. The final was straight forward. Just follow the flow chart.
Good teacher, test are hard online, you only get 60 minutes for 50 questions so you have to know your stuff. Extra credit labs are easy, she drops your lowest test grade. Just go to class, do labs, listen to lectures, do extra credit, and study for tests and you will do fine.
Took hybrid class. All tests are online. In class lab practical at the end. Didn't use the book once. Everything on the test is from the notes. Awesome teacher. Straight forward.
Extremely disappointed with her online zoology class. Never announced that she hand-graded tests, and does not reply to e-mails. I was stressed out all semester when I saw I was getting low grades on all tests. Make sure you make a friend her classes, that is how I survived this semester. Some material on the Lab Final was not in any of the labs.
Awsome teacher, knows her stuff.Study and you will get an A in her class. She is very helpful in class and labs.
The work was alright, not really hard but the tests were a bit difficult with trying to finish them on time. She took forever to reply to messages and pretty much didn't exist except to grade. The dissections were fun, but I was so disappointed that there really wasn't a teacher. I didn't learn anything.
Really cool and nice teacher.. She will drop your lowest test grade and offers extra credit!
Excellent teacher. You do not need a book for this class. The teacher provides you with study guides and all of the information you need for the tests are in her lectures & study guides. Lab manual is needed for class. Teacher is helpful and always willing to answer questions.
SHE IS A TEACHER WITH A HEART. SHE IS FAIR. IF I STUDIED HARDER I WOULD HAVE HAD A BETTER GRADE. I STILL PASSED THE CLASS THOUGH. THE TESTS ARE NOT THE EASIEST, YOU HAVE TO REALLY STUDY. EXTRA CREDIT ARE GIVEN MAKE SURE U DO THEM :) . GREAT TEACHER IN GENERAL. SHE KNOWS HER STUFF
Took me until the last test to really figure her out. At times she comes across very cold. I took this class as a hybrid. While in class she wasn't really around for help.Doesn't answer e-mails in a timely fashion. She does give extra credit, so do it. It saved me.
She is terrible to take. She doesn't respond to emails for almost a week and in labs she leaves the room. Her tests are ridiculously hard. I am an A student and had a very difficult time with this course. My advice - if you have her..switch now! I would not take again.
Ms. Brown is the best I really enjoy your class I would highly recommend she knows her stuff.
I took this as hybrid, so we met for lab 1x a week and I was on my own for the lecture. Yes, it was hard, and I had to study hard- it's Micro! P. Brown was always available to answer my questions (and they were many!) No, she doesn't stand around looking over your shoulder in Lab- she just lets you get on with it. We ARE all adults here- right?
I really enjoy her classes. I also took her as a hybrid for biology. She is pretty funny, too.
This class was much harder than I expected, the subject material is a bit more challenging but Ms. Brown is an awesome teacher who really knows what shes talking about and can give relatable examples to nearly everything that is covered in class. She does not update grades online but everything is returned in class very quickly.
My first C 79.84 wish she could have rounded up my grade. The test are really hard. Some of her study guides were good some weren't like chapter 3! I feel she doesn't get back to your email in a timely fashion. In class if you ask for help she is more than happy to help. Doesn't get bothered like some teachers do.
Took her hybrid class, 6 tests the entire semester (at home), 1 lab practical, plus the lab reports. TONS of extra credit! if you study the notes she provides you will do fine on her tests. She also drops the lowest test grade, and she is super helpful. It was an easy A, and I really enjoyed the class and the labs. I never used my textbook once!
Great teacher, if I took the class again it would be with her. Very understand and will work with you. Read the notes and you'll pass her class.
Billie Brown is a good teacher. Many of the time i would find myself not knowing majority of the answers on her tests but ending up with a B on them. you do not need to take notes because all notes are in canvas. The class is a little boring but it is not her fault. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY BUYING A TEXTBOOK YOU WILL NOT USE IT!
You are pretty much on your own in this class. She's a good teacher but not very helpful.
I don't understand the reviews that say she was unhelpful, or unclear. In my experience she was extremely knowledgable, organized, lenient, and a great teacher.
Patient, listens, funny!
I took this class as a hybrid and it was the best way to go. We just came in once a week and did a lab. All PowerPoint's were online. All exams were online as well and you can use your book. The Final is based on all the labs you do and she lets you come in and review the lab set up and take pictures before hand. Class periods are pretty quick too!
She is one of the most laid back teachers. I would highly recommend taking her hybrid class. Lab once a week and we're there for only an hour. Plus she explains the entire lab before hand. Her tests are hard, but she provides notes, lectures, PP with all the information. Never even got the book. Definitely taking her again for Micro.
Not qualified to teach upper level. Her 3020 class is identical to her intro class. Labs also identical BUT she removed 2 intro labs from that class and moved them to the upper level class -in order to make them different? Her notes are illegible, syllabus is from before 2002 & her incorrect notes are perpetually"in progress"- yet never fixed.
She's a great teacher! Her Biology of Microorganisms class was pretty easy to follow. She provided notes online of everything you needed to know for the tests and was always available during office hours for extra assistance. She provides extra credit throughout the semester and as long as you take the time to study getting an A is not difficult.
Hard to communicate with, and does not reply in a timely matter. Not very clear on assignments and not very organized (took online).
She was very easy to work with and approachable. She walks you thru figuring out the answer, not just provide you with it. Plan on studying alot if you want a good grade. Students run labs after instruction, but she is present for guidance. Worked my rear off for an A. Highly recommend - but she makes you work for it!
My favorite professor at E.F.S.C!!!
Her tests and other materials are full of misspellings and vagueness. I'm fairly sure I lost points on exams for spelling the nomenclatures correctly, because she consistently uses'ea' in place of 'ae.' Of course, I don't know what her 'correct' answers were--she doesn't post answer keys or show correct answers on the online tests.
I took her Microbiology hybrid course this summer and really enjoyed it. Her syllabus was straight forward and clear, she followed it to the letter. The lecture portion was fully online (pre-recorded). All tests were online, minus the lab final. Labs were really engaging she is always available for questions and provides clear instructions prior.
Best Class ever, taken with the best teacher! I honestly thoroughly enjoyed the course as it is truly interesting and the labs are so fun. Definitely stay on track with the tests and listen to audio lectures. Ms. Brown is an awesome teacher and really deserves to be praised. Would definitely recommend!
Print out the notes from Canvas, Easier than taking notes in class and perfect for studying for the test. Labs are fun and not as hard as you'd think. Super nice and understanding, offers extra credit quizzes about the upcoming lab on Canvas. Doesn't update grades on Canvas but all you have to do is ask her in class.
Professor Brown is enthusiastic while teaching, which to me is a plus! The labs were amazing and lectures were interesting but my only problem was with the tests, they were kind of tricky even though I would spend hours studying. But then maybe I am not a very good test taker, which is why I got a B instead of an A. I got a lot out of it though!
I took this hybrid class during summer. Test are online and are hard. I did well on them but required much studying. The labs are so much fun. One thing I do not like is that she doesn't put the lab grades on canvas so your canvas grade is never accurate. She puts the average lab grade at the end of the semester. She is a tough grader.
Really informative!
Her Microbiology class has 6 tests (no cumulative final) and 17 pre-lab quizzes for extra credit. The lab portion doesn't have a lab practical, but you do have to find what 2 bacteria she has given you in a test tube culture(open resource). Printing lecture notes will help you in lecture and studying for tests. Lots of studying for a good grade
Book wasn't used at all i'm glad I didn't waste money on it. You're pretty much on your own and your grade on canvas isn't correct. She gives you the notes for the test but isn't completely clear. 1-3 labs everytime and can be confusing
One of the best professors i've ever had. Genuinely cares about what she is teaching. Show up and put in the work and you will pass. Even though the tests are exceptionally hard, she offers extra credit that can change your grade by two letters. She dropped our lowest test grade. The lab practical was very easy and she explained all labs.
I took this as a hybrid course. It had several online exams that were timed and are a large portion of your grade. STUDY for those exams, we never used a textbook in the class but I've heard some material is from the textbook. The exams also have lots of misspellings and grammar issues. She sits in her office after explaining the lab.
Professor Brown is very knowledgeable in the micro and bio field. I took her hybrid microbiology class and loved it. Not much HW, 5 exams based on written and recorded lectures so make sure to read and listen to the audios. 1 weekly quiz for extra credit. Tough on HW grades though. Oh, don't bother buying/renting the book!
I liked her , but you have to study to get your grade! This class you put in work!
Great teacher ! Put in work you will pass!
Her lectures are heavy and her tests are not quite in line with her lectures. She isn't very good with replying to her email and not really accessible outside of class. I struggled with the microscope and she would not help me. If you have SAIL accommodations be prepared to fall behind because she is late bringing her tests to the testing lab.
This class was difficult . You have to study constantly , but she is a very nice lady she gives you extra credit and cares about her students. The final you discover the unknown bacteria! I think she was great but study study!!!
Professor Brown is a great professor, but if you struggle with tests you will find it difficult to pass her class. She offers plenty of extra credit, but not a lot of overall points to be earned during the semester so a few poor tests will make it hard to get an "A". Need high grades to apply for programs, and hard to get those grades in her class.
I loved her class it was a challenge. If you study and put time into the class and pay attention you will pass . My whole class seemed to be failing I never failed any tests. I studied for hours on her tests. The final was discovering unknown bacteria. If you know your labs you will do fine. Study study!
She is not a bad professor. I actually learned in her classes. This class will teach you how to study and work hard just like the health care programs at any university or college. If you want to learn take her. Take her later classes though because AM is hard to stay awake because lecture heavy but all health care classes are...
I got an 89 then did the extra credit an got an A i would suggest taking her biology class before this class and really listen and pay attention. I barely studied and passed. I dont know what everyone is talking about
The professor is very informative with her lectures, and she provides A LOT of information while also giving students access to that info on canvas. However, she doesn't really use canvas for anything besides putting the EC quizzes on there. So your grade is NEVER correct on canvas. She does drop the lowest test grade and gives several EC quizzes.
Her tests are fill in the blank which are challenging at time , but as long as you have notes and study you can get good grades. The dissection are easy online , just use YouTube to help if stuck. Dissection are only worth one point which kinda sucks because they dont help that much
I took professor Browns class online and it was a mess. She took points off because she would not open the word document properly and all of her tests are fill in the blank. Avoid this class at all costs!!!
WE NEVER USED THE TEXTBOOK; RIP my money. Professor Brown was a nice teacher with tests, although many, that had question taken directly from the notes. She was very knowledgeable and clear with lab instructions. The lab manual was adjusted slightly in class so pay attention. The final was identifying 2 bacteria from an unlabeled tube.
Professor Brown's microbiology class was an overall great experience. I was nervous going in as I am not a great test taker, however, all six tests are open-note and the lowest of the six grades is dropped. There is plenty of opportunity for extra credit and the labs are straight forward.
Not the most online person. Labs were fairly straightforward, it was just a little difficult to follow at times but if you take your time you will be able to understand. I would recommend her but always be on your toes as it is pretty fast paced, especially her hybrid class. Use her study guide and notes for the tests!
Syllabus and tests were dated for several years ago, constant typos albeit functional. Course grading and proctored expectations unclear initially. Many labs/dissections for which student is financially responsible. Fun/doable class but not a wash like many online courses. Information for tests always comes from textbook. Little busywork.
This class is challenging, but well worth the effort. Billie Brown is a great professor who cares about her students' success. Make sure to attend lectures, study hard, and utilize resources like unstuckstudy for extra study prep. With dedication, you'll be able to ace this class.
Professor brown was great, there is a textbook that you can study to really get the material but her tests are based off her lectures/notes. If you study before the tests you'll do good, they are multiple choice and one drop test. Pre lab quizzes are a ton of extra credit. And the lab final was using skills learned to identify two unknown bacteria.
I took Ms.Brown this summer, I really enjoyed her class. Although it was hybrid one day a week. The labs we have done were so cool and very fun. Her test were online, open book, open notes. I would recommend just using the notes since all the answers are straight from the notes. The test were also super super easy and not hard.
