Absolutely awful. Very difficult to understand what he is saying, and he'll fly through problems and skip steps, which makes the material very hard to understand. Find a different prof if you can.
Hard to get used to accent, but it is clear Professor Wang has student's success in mind and is aware of class difficulty as exam averages are much higher than other calc 2 courses
What I only want to say is : DONT TAKE HIS CLASS
His accent takes a few lecture to get used to. He expects student to be fairly competent going in, so unless your algebra/ trig skills are top noche, his work will seem unclear. He care about whether or not the student learn the material, not just there because he has to be.
doesn't communicate well
Does not explain problems at all. Goes way too fast. Expects you to know a lot. The homework is nothing like what he lectures about.
His accent is tough at first, but you get used to it and it isn't a big deal eventually. He goes through the easy examples really slowly and then saves the hard examples for the end and has to rush through them. He assumes his students understand things and doesn't explain himself well. DO NOT take 222 with Wang
He will occasionally laugh at the class because he knows knows very few students are actually following his proof. That being said, the tests tend to be straight forward, just don't expect to be babied.
His accent is a bit tough to get over but he is actually a great teacher and explains things clearly. He expects you to know a lot and moves very quickly. Great teacher in my opinion.
He has an accent but is still easy to understand. I thought he did a great job teaching Math 320. The midterms were fairly easy and the final wasn't terrible either. I went to talk to him in office hours once and he was very helpful.
Wang is a very poor communicator, his explanations are very often difficult to follow and he doesn't try to elaborate when he realizes that students aren't understanding him. His tests are standard for UW math classes (tricky but not impossible). I do not recommend Wang, if you have him be prepared to spend a lot of time in your TA's office hours.
Obviously uncomfortable with English and cannot communicate. He cannot even use a microphone correctly. Thinks that doing math while spouting random facts is teaching and will jump around during a problem without any explanation. Find a different professor, even if it means waiting a semester.
Wang is very hard to understand. He goes completely off of memory in the first lecture he teaches of the day and makes many mistakes and then write directly from the book in the second. There is definitely a language barrier as he has trouble with many English words. He laughs when student Don't understand something which is rude
The professor understands the material very well, and thoroughly explains the concepts in the lectures. If you are not paying attention closely you may get lost, as the material is quite difficult and his accent can hinder how clearly it is presented. The notes written on the board are clear and easy to follow though.
Sometimes his accent can get in the way of what he is teaching; however, he is definitely an intelligent person who genuinely tries to help and inform his students. 8/10 would Bing again.
Bing has an accent, but it is understandable. He clearly makes an effort to be heard going as far as to hold the microphone right next to his mouth. Math 222 is not an easy course and people must be prepared to put in the work to be successful. Some topics may be confusing, but Bing is always willing to help if you care enough to ask the question.
I have always attended lecture, but honestly, it doesn't really matter if you go to lecture or not. There is a significant language barrier, he continues teaching despite mass confusion, and makes, albeit infrequent, mistakes. I learned everything from my TA, who was a wonderful teacher. I'd advise another professor.
I found that his lectures were confusing at first, but if a student actually reads the textbook before lectures the material is clear and straight forward. He explained steps that weren't explained in the book which was helpful. Definitely an underrated teacher.
Easily the WORST professor/teacher I have ever had. Poor examples, goes on tangents not relevant to the material, and does not provide clear, concise explanations. He has made my first semester a struggle, when it does not have to be. Avoid at all costs.
While accent can be difficult, he is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. If you can get past the accent, which is not difficult, he is an above average professor.
While it is true his lectures can be "proofy", and that is something to work on, is speed of presenting new material and the order that it is covered makes the course quite manageable. I also felt the exams were very fair compared to most exams from previous years.
While he is difficult to understand at times I felt that he really knew his information and had a passion for math. If you are confused go to his office hours and he is really quite helpful. If you put in the effort in his class it is quite easy and I would love to have him as a professor again.
Very knowledgeable and the communication barrier is easy to get over if you actually focus. Very kind and helpful.
I usually don't post these - however, Professor Wang seems to be taking a lot of criticism.. some undeserved. Professor adapted well as semester progressed. Quality of teaching is there, but success - in anything - requires practice. Attend Bing's lecture - and put in time on your own - and there will be no hindrance to succeeding in this class.
The language barrier is there, but he is still understandable. If one reads the textbook and shows that he/she wants to learn the material, Bing will do his best to help you. Math222 is a very tough class alone, and Bing made it very understandable for me.
Bing is incredibly smart, but not a good professor. He knows this, and is constantly working to make himself a better teacher. Unfortunately, that's not the same as being a good professor. If you have the choice between Bing and another prof, take the other.
Although his lecture is hard to understand in some parts, he is not a bad teacher. He will try to help you if you ask for his help but if you don't then he won't know and continue on. He might skip some step assuming you know but if you tell him you don't know, he can show it step by step.
It is better to preview the material he is going to cover in class. In this way, you could be well prepared to the class and focus much on the material you do not understand and skip the points you already know. He explained some point really well, like the rational substitution which I do not understand after reading that part in the textbook.
Bing gets a lot of criticism, but he is not an awful teacher by any means. I believe that this was his first semester at the university, and he has improved over the course of it. Lectures are occasionally confusing, but that is the nature of the material. He is certainly a brilliant man. Currently, his teaching isn't excellent, but it'll improve.
Math 222 is a very challenging course, and Bing is happy to share his knowledge. A lot of instruction will use proofs to explain the reasoning behind concepts, which is initially challenging, but pays off in the end. Don't be afraid to utilize office hours or even sit in the front!
It's tough to grade Bing. I had a really terrible TA to go along with an awful book for Math 222, so I can't blame everything on him. You do get used to his accent, but sometimes he did make things much more complicated than they should be.
really good professor. His lecture is really useful for exams
The course material in this class can be difficult to wrap your head around (more examples may help). It confuses me when i will learn the proofs and such in lecture, but my TA does problems in a completely different way. To do well it seems necessary to go to office hours/do something on your own. I like how Bing cares about his students.
Wang has a tough accent for sure. He tends to do the proofs a lot and then get confused in his only explanations. It doesn't mean that he doesn't understand the material well it's just difficult to him to explain it. He uses half the lecture to review and half the lecture to cover new stuff. If you don't want to teach yourself, don't take his class
The course is difficult, but the exams are super fair if you study the hw and go in for help. Overall a pretty good teacher.
Professor Wang is beyond intelligent and definitely knows what he is doing. Yes, there is a small language barrier but anyone can get used to it. Math 222 is already a difficult course and it takes effort to succeed. Prof. Wang has the student's interests in mind always. His tests are completely fair if you study and use your resources.
People are too hard on him and he is super helpful in office hours!!!!
This class is a tough class. The work load is a lot but in the end, studying hard and doing every homework assignment will help. Sit in the first few rows of the lecture to clearly understand him, his accent is hard to understand at first but you will catch on. It is very important to have a good TA, switch into a new discussion if you don't.
It is clear that he tries very hard to be a good teacher and make his points understandable but, but the straight fact is that he is not. I'm sure in a few years of teaching he will be much better but a this point, ignoring the accent, his lectures are VERY difficult to follow. He seems to make things more complicated than necessary quite often.
Hard to understand, too high expectations of students coming into the class
Although at first it was hard to understand the professor, I found that I quickly adjusted to his accent and after I worked through it I found that I didn't have too much trouble following the material. Sometimes the proofs were a little hard to follow, but that is because of the difficulty of the class. The professor explained them quite well.
The professor did a good job explaining things, althought the materials are hard to understand. Accent is not a big issue. Spending time going over textbook and notes definitely helps you get what you need. A good TA is extremely important for this course since homework problems are harder than the examples provided in class. Exams are fair.
To be honest, he is a good professor. Math 222 is not a easy class. People will judge professor if they fail to follow this class. It's not professor's fault but because of their lack of efforts.
He is a good professor and the curve is fair. Math 222 is not easy, even harder than Math 234. People will make judgement on professor if they cannot follow the class. To
Bing Wang is a boss.
Bing Wang sent out an email early this week saying that math 222 is a hard course and it is not his problem if we cant follow. I learned absolutely nothing by going to lecture, but my TA is super helpful so I have a decent grade in that class. AVOID him if u can! Math 222 is a hard class that's why we need to have a good professor.
I think he tried he is just very difficult to understand and I wish I would have gotten a professor that made more sense to my style.
Bing tried his best; however at times the class material was vague and lectures were hard to follow. His accent wasn't too much of a problem. The exams were fair but extremely difficult. The TA you get can really determine how you like the class. I had a terrible TA that would laugh if you didnt know something. Overall look for another prof.
basically, he makes everything so confusing. i knew partial fractions before i took the class and i can easily say that his explanation was just so horrible that i felt really bad for the people that were learning partial fractions. you have no idea what he is trying to talk about. but i could tell he was improving towards end.
No clarity in explanations, no idea how a microphone works, jumped from topic to topic in no sensible order, exams were fairly ridiculous... I strongly recommend any other professor
Professor Wang is really a kind and helpful guy. This is not an easy class so hard work is required to pass it. However, if you are willing to do a good job, he will definitely do anything he can to help you. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This is the second time I’ve taken this class. Lectures were very confusing. I was lucky I knew most things already from before. I found his accent to be understandable, lecture room was awful. No way to check your grade at all. This class will depend a lot on the luck of the draw with your TA. I would take the class with a different professor.
He isn't a good professor. I know he tries, but he spends the entire lecture doing proofs that we are never going to use. He reads right out of the poorly written textbook. For your grades sake find a different professor.
AVOID BING WANG AT ALL COSTS! He is the worst professor I have ever heard of. He teaches topic in in the most confusing way possible. This course was all review for me and even I had trouble trying to follow what he was trying to teach. I feel bad for the people that were learning it for the first time. His exams are also really difficult.
very easy! recommend
Goes through material in a confusing way and explains things in theory. I found the test to not be too bad though.
He is a great teacher. Very laid back and expects alot from his students. His lectures are clear and concise.
Bing has a accent, but is extremely funny, and can be understood. He wants to help you understand.
Lectures were so confusing, disorganized, and full of proofs and unhelpful examples that I stopped going. His accent was strong but understandable. Tests weren't too difficult, but grading was unforgiving. My TA was terrible, and I only did well by reading the textbook and working with friends. I would highly recommend avoiding Bing at all costs.
I found Bing to be a pretty solid professor. There's definitely a language barrier, but it isn't much of a problem. IMO anyone who says that his accent is a HUGE problem is just looking to justify their grade. His lectures were good. Bing knows his stuff. The textbook sucks. It's the literal embodiment of hell. But all 234 classes use the same one.
Very difficult to understand. Teaching style needs reworking and needs to speak clearer
Prof. Wang's lecture is not really clear and really confusing, and you have to teach yourself a lot. He doesn't like to write out the concepts and draw pictures on the board which makes note taking really hard. Doesn't have practice problems nor review sections. His midterms were ok but the final is definitely the worst thing ever.
Bing Wang teaches difficult concepts in very poor ways. He spends way to much time doing proofs, which are not even part of the curriculum, and failed to lecture on some concepts that ended up being on the final. Overall one of the worst math professors I've ever had, switch if possible.
I retook this course and had a different professor the first time. I received a worse grade with Bing the second time around. He made simple topics more complicated, and tougher ones impossible, and when it came to tests they were terribly worded and confusing. Stay away.
Bing Wang definitely knows his stuff, he just doesn't know how to teach. Homework rarely ever relates to lecture. Lecture itself is pretty difficult to follow because it's all useless proofs. If you get a good TA, you might have a chance, otherwise you better teach yourself. But watch out for that final, he gives you stuff you've never seen before.
Bing is very intelligent, however he is not the world's greatest professor. If you put in the work, you will do fine, however, if you are only somewhat familiar with the material, his tests will consume you. He will give hints, but you have to know what you are doing. So if you just want a good grade with the least amount of work, he is not for u
"Bing Wang" is the name that my enemy screeches out in my nightmares. Horrible lecturer and a harsh grader. For some reason his mind is set on making the class curved and not giving a deserving grade. His final was nothing more than a bad joke, as most of the material was stuff nobody had seen before. I would rather be taught by a stick than Bing.
The material itself isn't hard, but the way it is taught doesn't make a lot of sense. He doesn't connect concepts from previous classes or chapters well to the present lecture. The textbook isn't very helpful either; I got most of my information from online videos and worksheets. The midterms were fair, but be prepared for a very difficult final.
This semester his midterms are so easy, but the final is so challenging. The average of final is 48 percent!!!!!!!!! But he is a fine grader. I got a low AB in the final, but I still get A in the end. Thanks, Bing! If you want to take his math class, make sure you are capable of dealing with his accent and both easy and difficult questions.
This course should be very easy. The concepts are fairly simple and straight forward and not at all more difficult than previous calculus classes. With this said, Bing Wang makes this class difficult with very poor teaching and a final that was absolutely ridiculous. Highly recommend avoiding him and getting a different professor.
This guy. I really dislike the way he did his class. It was much much harder to get an A in his class versus the other 234 professors. He was understandable if you tried, but he read straight from the horrible book and spent the majority of the class doing proofs that were impossible to follow. I hated this class and every second, and I love math.
Bing Wang is very difficult to understand. Not an overly difficult class overall but was made much harder because the class basically had to decipher everything he did. He also made the final extremely difficult (average was around 45%) because he felt the two midterms had been to easy.
W. Bing's poor english make the hard course even harder. He is not responding to email, change his schedule without notice students, and he goes over homework section after it is due. All you could hope is you have a good TA to keep you up. The test is really hard. If you can avoid this teacher, avoid it by all means.
Bing is by far the worst teacherprofessor I have ever had. He gives confusing, boring, and useless lectures. The tests are ridiculously hard and there is no help. There are no review sheets, practice exams, or review sessions. The first midterm was put on a curve so the average score was just below a C, so over half the class had a D or F.
Bing gets a bad rep because his tests are incredibly hard, but that is mostly because he generally teaches super hard subjects. In all honesty he explains concepts well and at a good pace. Moreover, he uses examples to help you understand better.
What he talked in lecture rarely relates to tons of homework .
Taught the material straight out of book, very hard to understand, not helpful towards topics, does not supply practice exams made by himself.
The lectures were tedious and difficult to follow (most others agreed). I attended every lecture and sat in the front, and I had to learn 95% through other resources. Frankly, Khan Academy was the only reason I managed to learn enough to get a B. I only wish I had stopped relying on his lectures sooner, so I could have actually learned more.
I don't know why some people don't like this professor. But actually, he is the best math teacher I have ever met so far. Despite a little accent, he clarify the materials very well, and I can understand the content every lecture. BTW, his two midterms are soooo easy but the final is hard(it's OK since everyone thought it hard) :)
Wang is bad, but not as bad as the other reviews suggest. He chooses the most difficult and obscure questions to put on tests and I think he actually likes making students do poorly. He makes sure the curve is no better than a BC which is brutal and unfair for a class like 340. To do well, you must master every textbook problem.
Pigeon Hole theorem doesnt make any sense. probably the worst lecturer and class i have ever had
He is extremely difficult to understand and does not communicate well. He tests on material that is not taught and tells you the exams are easy. Homework sometimes covers material that has not been taught yet. He is the worst professor I have ever had. Do not take him unless you have to.
First off he curved the class to a 2.3, which is terrible. I had some trouble understanding him, and he assumes a lot of knowledge that I didn't have.
Bing Wang is ridiculous. Sets the average to be a BC and makes the test very hard. Does not even allow a note card in the exam and makes the final cumulative. Do not take in any case
Bing Wang is difficult to understand, though the accent isn't as terrible as his teaching. His few examples that actually help you learn the material do little to help with his exams. Not a well structured course and not the professor to take it with.
His English isn't that great and he has an accent so it is hard to follow his explanations in class. His actual work on the board is clear at least. Tests were very difficult.
Bing has already improved a lot, since I have taken his class before. Notes are clear and the accent is fine to me. Exams are mostly based on homework and materials he mentioned in class. I would definitely recommend him.
Bing Wang is a pretty average math professor. His accent was easy to understand. He spends the entire class writing on the board and there is very little room for participation. He will answer questions, however, and this teaching style is common for math classes. He receives more criticism than he deserves but certainly isn't a great professor.
Nice guy but hard professor. Makes class and subject hard. Tests have so much on them that he never teaches.
