Great professor and is passionate with what he does. I honestly hate math and was in special ed math all throughout high school but he makes it easy to get a good grade and gives you straight forward exams and overall is a very nice guy. He does have an accent and if your not good with dealing with that than this isnt the class for you.
He is just a great Mathematician and very passionate professor. I did enjoyed his class a lot
he is absolutely great teacher. his best quality is he will help you anyway. HE is great
Without assumption, he's great and is very passionate about math. He will anything can to help you especially the grade in the class. He provides lots of extra credit, drops the lowest, and is very interactive. Always respond to emails. He doesn't teach 174 but take him in summer for all classes MTH 174/173. Take him of you'll regret.
He is the BEST! Highly recommend this Professor.
Highly recommend, very very very great mathematician, explains and demonstrate materials very well.
Best math professor. REGISTER BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!
I recommend Mr. Tibebu. He explained concepts well and did tons of review prior to tests. He posts his slides on BB (I had to remind him a couple of times.) He has a very strong accent that made him difficult to understand at first, but I got used to it within a couple of classes and then had no trouble.
Great professor who cares about his students! Will help anyone who asks and goes over many clear examples of the course work. Could not have taken a better Calculus professor. Attendance is 15% of your grade and homework is also part of your grade. As long as you pay attention and do the homework, you'll do a great job. And if not, just ask him!
I highly recommend Professor Tibebu. He explained the material very well and was helpful.
Biniyam is a cool prof. 1st you'll notice is his accent, you get use to it. He offers a lot of help for people looking for help. He gave 3 exams, 1 final, 4 HW assign, 1 quiz. He posts slides on blackboard and usually gives a review before the exam. if you can do the hw you should be ok, but seek help early because each ch depends on the prev. ch.
This guy's great. Nice guy all around and really wants the students to learn. Highly Recommended
Great professor, really cares about the students. Give you extra point and the handouts will be on the exam. He drops the lowest grade. Very helpful and student who fail in his class should blame themselves.
Do your grade a favor, stay away from this prof.
He is one of my best professors at Nova. Please if you want to learn and get a good grade take this professor, he will help you until you understand the materials. I still remember one of my colleagues in class, he keeps asking about easy things that usually it is clear for the whole class but the professor never hesitate to repeat explanation.. :)
He is one of the best math teachers I've ever taken here at NOVA. Very helpful and will take time to go over the subject. He does have a strong accent, but we still understand what he is teaching. Quizzes and Test are straight from the review papers he gives, just study and ask whenever you can. Even after class or email. he will answer back.
He is very helpful, he does not mind going over the material when you ask. It's important to do homework and also the review packets since most of the exam questions are very similar to the review questions. Overall very nice guy!
He is very helpful, he does not mind going over the material when asked. Do your homework and complete the review questions since the test questions are very similar to the ones on the review sheet. Overall very nice guy.
He is very helpful, he does not mind going over material if you ask him. Overall nice guy.
The best Math teacher i ever had in my life. If you wanna get A and learn something at the same time take him. thank me later. Best of luck
Good teacher. Has a foreign accent, but is understandable.
nice dude, awesome study guides.. take him
Do your grade a favor don't take him
He tells students to study off home work and what we went over the class. Doesn't give feedback for exams and expects u to know everything.
exams are very easy. Gives a lot of extra credit. Will answer every question, like this guy in my class kept asking algebra-related questions and he always explained as if he had the whole time in the world and as if he was teaching algebra. point is, he won't say that you should know this or that, blah blah...
He said he would give us 3 tests and one would be dropped, but when he found out some people could not improve from extra credit questions in all the tests and when he dropped the lowest one he gave us again three more quiz that I need no one of them coz i already had more than 100%. The best Professor I have ever had in my life. Am taking him 174.
Very nice lectures were clear and he understood and answered all the questions. he will help if you ask him too overall great professor. the tests are pretty easy if you pay attention to his lectures and write down notes.
he is one of the greatest teacher I had. Take class with him, you will learn a lot. He will do every thing to pass you in class. AMAZING.........
Bad for your grade. Avoid taking even if it means you escape a semester. Very hard accent.
He's pretty cool. I had him for 173 and now 174. He teaches pretty well. I wouldn't recommend to anyone if anyone isn't doing engineering or anything like that. He's okay. He doesn't sometimes teach pretty clear when it comes to taking notes in class. Sometimes he's very hard to understand. If you're doing engineer take him
He's becoming very hard. I barely can even understand what he is saying in class. Bad for your grade especially if you want to pass to graduate from NOVA. Ive been at NOVA for a while, and this class can be a dragger. So do me a favor take someone. Plus he was made that I didn't know the first time. He can be a perfectionist
I took professor for Applied Calculus and I would definitely take him again. Just come to class and do the work. He would give us study tests and the questions given on there would be the same format as the test he gives. I remember he dropped the lowest grade for test. Don't slack and keep up with the material and you'll be fine. Great Professor!
Great professor, would take again
He's a great guy! Im so thankful to have this professor. Without this professor, I would've failed math with another professor. He's clear-cut and he wants you to study. He's a watchdog because he cares for his students. Just come to class and do the work, you'll be fine. Study and don't be frustrated taking the exams.
I took his class while I had a very tight schedule, yet I found out that he clearly explains all the concepts and the tricky questions in the class itself, so when the exam comes you're already prepared for the worse. Very punctual, respected by his students and extremely helpful, answers his emails instantaneously (even on weekends).
He's the type of professor that will always teach you the hard part of mathematics including his homework. It makes his lectures a little difficult at first, but it makes you ready for any question that might come in the exams and mathematics in general.
If you want to acquire a strong foundation of 173 or 174 and earn an easy "A". Say no more. This professor tries his best to help out during his office hours and doesn't mind going over any question again if you can't get it. I wish he teaches differential or Linear Algebra, I would've definitely took him again.
the best professor i have seen in my life.
Words can't honestly describe how inspirational this Prof. is. He won't piggyback you to do well, but he'll definitely give you the opportunity to. He's Ethiopian; so he'll have a thin accent, but he'll make sure you'll thoroughly know the material before you complete the course. This Prof. is just amazing.
A lot people enjoy his class, but I felt it was too fast for me to keep up. On one test most people got in the range of 50%-60% so he made the test out of 75% instead of 100%. When asking questions he would respond "thats easy you shouldn't need to ask a question like that." Very intelligent, but too much so as to leave students behind.
I loved this class. Calculus is never easy, but Biniyam cares and wants you to pass. When we all do poorly on a test he gives us a little easy quiz afterwards to give us extra points. Always willing to pause and explain when you get lost.
If this is your first time taking calc you will struggle he moves way too fast, isn't that good at explaining main concepts and expects you to know everything , skips steps leaving you confused and his office hours are just as worse as his lectures confusing and rushed
I took professor for MTH 271 and I would definitely take him again. He would give us study guide for each Exam and detail explanations. He dropped the lowest grade for test. The most I like about this prof is that he know the material very well.
Good teacher. Accent can cause a bit of a language barrier, but this is made up for by the sheer enthusiasm he has for math. It is clear he loves to teach, loves math, and wants to share this love of math with you. Make sure you come to class, because missing a day can completely screw you over. Do your homework.
He is the best teacher at NOVA. He explains topics out of his head so you really get what math is about. You will never forget math after you take his class. THE BEST
Professor Tibebu is a good professor who cares about his students. If you show up to class, take notes, do the hw and ask questions you should be fine. If he notices your putting in the effort he will try his best to help you. Do the hw and review questions for sure, you'll be good for the exam. would take his course again for sure.
He is a very good teacher. I understood the course easily. His tests are from his notes. I would incredibly encourage students to take his class !!
He's a solid professor. Give good lectures and comes off as just a genuinely nice guy. He has a somewhat heavy accent, but he more than makes up for it by being animated and passionate. He seems pretty disorganized though.... material is not hard but he does not stick very closely to his syllabus. It was interesting though, would take again.
Drops the lowest test. Makes a really hard math easy. Really knows how to teach. If you try to pass he will pass you.
He is easy going and willing to help you better understand whatever is being thought.
He was very nice, if you study you will get an easy A
This class is essentially MTH 173 and 174, but with multiple independent variables and a few extra topics. I recommend skimming the section before it is covered in class, so the lecture is not as dense.I found that I retained a lot more by doing this. There shouldn't be any surprises on the tests; most questions are very similar to the HW/lecture.
Dude is a great teacher. Just do the HW on time and the tests should be a breeze. Show him a basic understanding of the class and you will pass. He really cares for each of his students.
I was taking MTH174(16 weeks) and MTH277(5 weeks), and I can tell that he is a very good professor. However, to get an A, you got to participate and do homework, lots of homework, but this homework will help you on the exams. Overall, a nice choice!
He really cares about his students. Take him if you can!! He gives lots of examples for each topic to make sure you understand. The homework is great, he give text book or online options and extra credit if you do both!! I have a hard time in math and he makes it seem so easy. He does have an accent so be aware of that. Will take him again!
I would definitely take him again. He knows his stuff well. Amazing professor.
this professor really cares about his students, he is always ready to explain again . great guy
The exams for this class aren't particularly hard but if you're not naturally good at math practice a lot the homework exercises, that's what I should've done! I was extra thankful that he drops 1 out of the 3. He's a very caring professor and tries hard to make the material understandable. Some commented on his accent but it's not bad at all.
Tests are way harder then what he goes over in class. If you want to really learn you will have to do a lot of work on your own. He will mark the question wrong on the exam for really minor mistake. You wont know what you have in class till the last day of class. If you are going to take him good luck
Good luck if you are taking him. You wont understand what he is teaching in class. the test is a lot harder then what he goes over in class. he will take of a lot of points for very minor mistakes, type of mistakes you make while rushing throw the test. You could get an a if he likes you though. There is no other way you are getting an A.
Not a good professor. Wouldn't recommend him to anyone. There is no way you are gonna get an A in his class. No extra credit. Good luck if you are going to take him.
Go to to every class. It will be exactly the time schedule that he will teach. You have to do all the homework. Reasonable, smart, kind and fair.
He is very caring, considerate and you can see that he loves maths. I've always struggled with maths, no matter how much I practice. This teacher was able to push me towards my goal and I got a B. Some people found his exams super easy, others struggled a bit more. Also, if you attend class and put in noticeable effort, your grade might go up.
I am glad I took his class. Even with a a slight accent, he explains everything thoroughly and makes sure everyone understands. He goes over things until a student understands. He can be humorous and my class seems comfortable with his teaching. The homework is very helpful and the short exams can be easy as long as you understand the concepts.
His lectures help A LOT, he make sure every student understands whats going on. He drops the lowest exam. took his 3 hours class and it honestly went by fast. Best math professor.
love love love professor tibebu. Aside from his slight accent he is the best math professor there is. he makes sure everyone is on the same page and will go in depth for you to understand what he's teaching. i personally don't like math but on one of the exams i got 78/80!!.
Solid choice. The only problem is that he takes forever to grade.
Not gonna lie. Math is not my strongest suit. I sat in the front and paid attention and participated, but that didn't help me understand. BUT he knew I was trying. All this being said he is extremely knowledgeable, and will try to help you when you're not sure. He does have kind of a thick accent but I was able to understand pretty well.
He skipped so many steps when doing examples and is an EXTREMELY harsh grader. I was fooled by all his great reviews but he is a HORRIBLE teacher. DO NOT take, especially if it is a summer class
If you want to take him get ready to read a lot. His exam is really hard you have too study hard I spent a lot of time for this class still get B. his grading is criteria is really bad. he wont give you partial credit whatever you try wrong.
One of the best professors of NOVA. He is kind and cares about his students. He is very competent. You can ask any relevant question, and he will be able to answer or explain. It's easy to succeed in this course. There is only true or false, just follow the rules and read the problems carefully. Just a few hws and 4 exams including a final.
He is nice professor. He is always willing to help to the students. I took mth 173 and I got A .
This professor really helps you to pass the course with A grade. If you are struggling with B and C grade , take an opportunity to get extra credits and get 100 on the final exam, you will get a good grade. 3 exams, lowest one was dropped. I got C on all three exams but got 2 extra credits and did 100 percent on the final and I got A.
He's an alright professor, not bad, but not the best at the same time. Homework is 20% of the grade, it helps a lot with your final grade. 90% of the questions on the test are from notes, so focus only on studying the notes. He does have a somewhat thick accent and difficult handwriting, but you can understand him if you pay attention in class.
He is not a good professor. He knows about the subject but he doesn't know how to teach. VERY tough grader. VERY thick accent. VERY hard to understand what he says. Please do yourself a favor and do not take his class.
He is the worst professor I've ever taken. I should have dropped this class but i tried to pass this class. Finally it ended up C. First of all, he has really strong accent and terrible handwriting. Second of all, he is a way tough grader. His exams are crazy and not related at all to study guide. He never posts exams grade during the whole semest
I am a Computer Science major and I had to take MTH 264 and this guy messed me up! I tried my absolute best to get an A on the first exam, but no matter how I studied I ended up getting a very bad result. I would not recommend this teacher if you want your GPA to get into prestigious schools.
If you take an online class at NOVA it's on you to study and teach yourself especially in math. I took his 8 week calc 2 class and got an A. I feel like he graded the exams fairly, you have to put in the time to really learn the material. He took a while to grade the exams, but he posted hints for questions that would be on the exams. Work hard.
I have said incomplete but I can smell my A from a mile away. Professor Tibebu is hands down one of the best math instructors, if not the best, at NOVA. He will make you work, but he will always be there for you. Exam, lecture, and homework are nicely tied together. I would personally hunt anyone down if he/she doesn't go for this professor.
The only material available is the textbook (James Stewart Calculus) and the only homework is the web assign problems. There are SO many problems, but use resources wisely and put in the time it is very easy. Although it takes forever. First test was paper, last two were on webassign. Takes long time to grade, but very easy A! Highly reccomend.
I have had bad bad good calc professors, took his interactive classroom course and it was a blessing. Trust me take his online course and you will be in good hands.
I had him for Cal II, III, and Diff Eq. A great instructor who gives fantastic classes. His lectures are amazing and he WILL help until you get it. His grading systems are fair for everyone. If you have any questions, ask him. He will listen to your concerns. Work hard and you will be successful. I highly recommend professor Tibebu, the best guy!
He is one of my favorite professors at NOVA. He is super nice and cares about his students. Homework was assigned on WebAssign. There were three exams and a final exam. He gave a sample of each exam for us to practice before we took it. I learned a lot from this class. Study, do your homework, and you will pass the course with a good grade.
Professor Tibebu is good at teaching calculus. He knows how to teach. The class is very difficult, but he does his best to show every step to every problem that he solves. He assigns many assignments. In comparison with other calc professors, he is one of the best.
LOTS of WebAssign homework, lectures are the primary focus. His accent/handwriting may be hard to understand, know material BEFORE lectures. Gives partial credit for work done on tests. Hardest material was at the end with the least time to practice. Very knowledgeable prof but some concepts were not explained very well; USE YOUR TEXTBOOK.
He went through topics pretty quickly and it was hard to read his handwritings. But he is very nice and his explanations were clear. Tests were manageable but you have to really study for it. Overall a great professor would take him again.
slept through most of the lectures because they're incredibly boring and his handwriting is most of the time illegible, as well as the fast pacing and no incentive to participate in class. the webassign homework due dates are not spread evenly, and you can pass by just learning from hw. class wasnt TOO terrible, but i wouldnt take it ever again.
Lectures are too fast-paced, and hard to understand. He expects participation but doesn't respond to any emails if you need help or have a question. The exams are what your grades depend on, which are very long, and you won't have much time to complete them. It's a struggle to get by, and the only thing that helped me was completing HW. Do not take
Calc 2 is already a difficult class to take so the last thing u want is someone that will make it harder. Professor Tibebu lecture are complicated and hard to understand, he is a unorganized when it comes to teaching and overloads you with homework, this class will truly stress you out. And his exams are hard, just save your time and dont take it.
This class was the hardest class I Have ever taken. His class was extremely difficult and unnecessarily hard. If you dont wanna be stressed do not take this class. Also you have to pay almost 200 dollars for a webassign. Taking this class would be the biggest mistake youve ever made in your life. You have been warned.
Professor Tibebu knows his stuff, without a doubt. He shows shortcuts and tips all throughout the semester. The exams are very fair and he includes study guides. The notes from class come in handy during test days too. Great professor all around, one of the most knowledgeable professors I have ever had.
Prof. Tibebu's MTH 264 is clearly structured, and the man clearly knows what he's doing. The course content is decently difficult and attendance is a must, but I've never had a more straightforward math course. You *must* study for the tests, but everything from the test is taken straight from our class. Flexible clear grading, def recommend!
Professor tibebu is very straightforward and can be intimidating at first, but once you talk to him hes a very nice guy and genuinely wants to see his students succeed, his lectures are where the learning happens along with the HW, his tests can be easy if pay attention in class and you study using your notes, the HW and the textbook! Great prof!
I don't know what happened this semester, but Tibebu didn't lecture or even offer office hours. Instead, he posted a list of Youtube channels at the beginning of the semester. Tests were moderately difficult, but he didn't give any feedback at all on tests. No extra credit either, though he did curve my final grade up a letter.
He is a great person. Very nice and able to work with you. Make sure you attend class and participate because it will really help you. Also the Homework will be a lot and it's on Aleks so get a head start. My advice is to only take him if you took AP in high school or have very strong math background but overall he is a very nice professor!
He is harsh, but to him, he just wants to challenge his students. Homework was 20 percent, attendance was 5 percent, 3 unit tests were 50 and the final is 25 percent. I had him for precalculus w/ trig and I would not recommend it because it is a five-credit class and you do not want to risk your GPA that much by taking it with him.
NO NO NO. Stop right here! He would probably good if you take him in-person. But for ONLINE class, NO! He really didn't reply to emails. Never ever answer one question in online discussion board. It took him forever to grade the exams. You basically finding YouTube Videos and teaching yourself!
Professor Tibebu is exceptionally skilled at mathematics and spends a lot of time covering reasoning behind formulas on each topic, noting proofs for most. The test questions are always similar to the class problems, often exactly the same. Does not provide much feedback on tests, self-studying is helpful. Drops 1 of 3 exams & gives extra credit
Professor Tibebu is a really passionate professor. You can tell that he has a deep passion for mathematics when you attend his lectures. His lectures are good and well organized. His test guides are straightforward and if you attend all of his lectures, you will do well on his exams. Professor Tibebu also provides a lot of extra credits.
Professor Biniyam Tibebu was a really good professor I took him in the fall of 2021. Although his class was difficult but if he sees you trying your best and asking him questions he will give you a grade boost but you have to work hard for it. He will also give you hints during exam days and there is alot of homework
Email reposes were inconsistent. Provide zero feedback on grades assignments. Took months to grade test/quizzes. Didn't even fill out the welcome to the course module or give a date and time to have office hours. He just wrote his email in an announcement and then almost never responded to emails. Idk how his rating is so high
I took an online class. MTH 265 is hard regardless of prof. He is very understanding of late/missed assignments. But, he didnt list office hours and other important info in the introduction module and sent messages/emails infrequently. He could have done more to prepare us for the tests other than 'hw and quizzes are a good review for the test'
Best math teacher I've ever had at NOVA. His handwriting can be bad, but don't hesitate to tell him so he can make it clearer for you. Is very nice and caring. Hands out lots of extra credits. Encourages students and tries his best to answer their questions. My whole class loves him. Take him he is a god.
Probably one of the best math prof. at NOVA. His grading is tough, but he more than makes up for it with plenty of extra credits, especially when he sees that you're trying hard to learn. Very passionate and kind. He made me feel extremely comfortable and I was able to learn thanks to that environment. This is why his classes are always full.
Horrible professor do not let the reviews deceive you. He give everyone online anxiety. You will be begging for a curve in the end. He is not an easy grader, nor is he helpful. He will sometimes answer emails, but you could be waiting awhile. He barely gives partial credit for exams. You should expect getting 40% or 11% on exams.
Mr. Tibebu has very informative lectures, and although at times he can move kind of fast, if you ask him questions he will explain his work. There is not a ton of homework, but calculus 2 is a hard class with challenging concepts, so expect to work hard for an A. He is an excellent teacher who helps bring out the most in his students.
He grades harshly, but is excellent at explaining the topic to students. He gives plenty of extra credits and drops lowest grade. You rarely meet Cal 2 professors that do this much to boost your grade. Is very friendly and you should approach him at the end of class to ask things you don't understand. There isn't a lot of homework either.
I took three classes with Tibebu, I can say he is the best math professor at the college. Tibebu had a clear grading scale for all his classes. His lectures heavily follow the textbook, however he does a great job of explaining the topics, making them easy to understand. He posts study guides for exams and gives extra credit. Highly recommend!
Look if you are one that can read and understand a mathematics book easily, then he's your kind of professor. However, if you are normal and require original notes/videos then STAY AWAY (he gives none). Responses to emails are about a 50/50, he will either respond within a week if you are lucky at around 2-3am, or just completely ignore your email.
I don't know why he has a high rating. He's abysmal for online math courses. We completed entire units in a week's time. There was no class to go to. Just a book to read and Cengage/WebAssign assignments. Terrible with emails, responds rarely/needs too many nudges. I wish I had read these ratings more thoroughly. He may be why I don't graduate.
Don't let the good reviews deceive you. This professor regularly went weeks without answering emails, and was in a timezone 8 hours behind local time. Do NOT take Tibebu online. Extremely disorganized, incoherent, and difficult. Exams are like the homework, but you literally get ZERO feedback and are lucky if you get grades back before the final.
I cannot praise a professor enough. He truly helped me become a better student in my college career. His lectures were very helpful and I learned to enjoy math. I took him for calc 1-3 and I regret none of it. The exams are based on problems done in class and hw is due before the exam. Best professor ever.
This is a 5-credit course that will require effort and dedication. The professor is caring and willing to help. It's essential to study diligently, take notes, and attend classes regularly. The tests are substantial, but the questions have been covered in class before. He gives extra credit and drops the lowest exam grade.
Based on my own experiences, Mr. Tibebu is very knowledgeable when it comes to mathematics and genuinely cares about his students improving. Although his handwriting can be messy and he can be slow to respond to emails, he brings the most out of you and rewards hard work. His classes are tough, but he's the best math professor you'll find at NOVA.
I've taken him for 264, 265 and 267 and would have loved to take more classes. His in person classes are much better than online and he gives out extra credit for first one to solve a problem occasionally. He does grade a bit harder than normal, but I think he makes up for it in his lectures and overall extra credits. He wants you to pass.
This professor is so caring. Gave extra credit and homework extensions. However, majority of the students in the class simply could not understand the lecture(including me), which meant I had to both teach and study myself. Try his class and see if you like how he teaches, but if you don't drop out immediately, since this class moves very quickly.
Teacher was very nice but has bad handwriting. The class goes by so fast that we even finish one unit a day. There's a lot of homework on Aleks that can be time consuming. Aleks is worth $75 for the semester. He gives out extra credit for test that we have did bad on. There are 3 exams for this class with the final.
Overall not too bad but the course is lacking that rigor component. If you just want the easy A take him, otherwise if you want to really learn calculus there are better options. Zoom it easy.
The pacing is quick given that it is a 6-week course, there is a $114 fee for the textbook, and there is usually a quiz at the end of lectures. However, Professor Tibebu has been one of my favorite professors. He works through each problem with you and even gives bonus points for people that answer first and bonus questions on exams.
Overall the class was fine, the only thing was that Professor Tibebu takes a hot second to sanswer emails and even if he answers he will only address part of the email (so if you are asking multiple questions good luck).
Professor Tibebu provides rigorous lectures for each learning objective. Completes many example problems and provides study guides which reinforce his lectures. He's receptive and patient to questions and clearly wants you to succeed. Exams are in class on paper with a fair amount of partial credit. Study topics ahead to keep up with the lectures.
Professor Tibebu's math classes are no walk in the park, but with effort and the right resources like unstuck study, you can excel. His lectures are dense but insightful, and he genuinely cares about student success.
I've taken Prof Tibebu multiple times now and he's been amazing. Tests are very accurate to class work. Classwork is very simple and he explains material well. He is not hesitant to answer questions and gives lenient deadlines on HW. Taking him again next semester 👍
This class was challenging, but Professor Tibebu's teaching made a big difference. While the exams carry a lot of weight, he provides plenty of examples similar to the exam material, so you're well prepared. I've had him for both MTH 264 and MTH 167, and both classes have been a great experience.
Fantastic professor that cares about his students and explains difficult concepts in detail stopping for any questions that come up. Exam questions are similar to classwork and homework which is online, do it early because there were usually 17 questions per section. I don't think I passed unfortunately, but the professor did everything he could.
Given the ratings here, he's probably good in person. I took him online and he is unreachable. Does not respond to emails EVER, grades arbitrarily (though usually on the more lenient side), does not provide accurate office hours, and does not provide feedback on missed questions. He even tested on material that was not assigned.
He was a decent professor and sometimes gives test questions. Theres also a lot of extra credit opportunity on tests which will help a lot because this class is test heavy.
HE WANTS YOU TO PASS! If you attend every lecture and do the homework, you will do well on the exams. When I had him, he dropped our lowest exam score. Do not expect him to respond to any emails though. He is unreachable unless it's in person, but just have faith he'll do what you need bc he will.
He cares for his students but the course is difficult. To pass, there's a good amount of self-teaching you have to do so if that's not you I would not take this class. He isn't very accessible outside of class and isn't tech savvy so chances are you won't know your final grade til the end of the semester. His tests are based on in class questions.
Only take this if you are going to take all assignments on time (can't reach professor through email or canvas Alot of homework and alot of studying You won't know whats on the tests, you will be told there will be about 5 sections per test but that amounts to over 100 unique questions to study 10 gets used in test) IHadAnAButItWasGoneInTheLastWeek
Professor Tibebu is very experienced and has a strong grasp of every topic he teaches. He is remarkably able to break down complex ideas into clear, simple notes—with good examples too. Homework and exams are a bit lengthy and may get complicated, but he provides plenty of practice to prepare and clearly outlines his expectations.
I took MTH 267 through NOVA Online. Late work isn't accepted, and no practice exams are given. You must be self-motivated. NOVA also uses AI to detect academic dishonesty in Discord, even masked IP addresses can be traced. Two students got caught sharing quiz answers.
This professor was okay and the lectures were so-so. Unfortunately, I could not understand much of what he was saying and only looked at the whiteboard. Could not do any assignments much due to how confused I was about the content of the math. Ended up blanking out on all of the exams. Would definitely suggest a different professor.
The lectures are easy to follow and understand. His explanations of course chapters are great and makes the more complicated chapters of calculus 2 very easy to understand. I definitely recommend the professor to anyone trying to take calculus 2.
Great professor. I took him for Differential Equations. His tests were almost exactly based on what we did in class, and very straightforward. The only thing I could "complain" about him is that he isn't the most tech-savvy. Either that, or he sometimes forgets to post certain things, like lecture recordings, on Canvas unless a student asks.
He was the best math teacher ive had, ive never gotten above a C in a math class before him. he has a thick accent but is very understanding and will write things down. theres 1-2 homeworks everyweek but its online and if you do it is a 100%. He drops the lowest exam grade you take out of the three. easiest math class ever, best teacher ever!1
He gets his own questions wrong in class, to which the students have to corect him. I dont think I would take his class again because he has a German mixed with Ethiopian (??) accent, which I cannot understand half the time, he adds extra letters to words a lot. All that said, this class wasnt bad, its exam/hw heavy but some exams are open note.
Dr. Tibebu is an excellent professor. The class has 3 exams (2 open note), a final, and weekly homework graded on completion. He provides helpful notes, sometimes mirrored in tests, making it nearly impossible to fail. He has a slight accent but is understandable. Email replies can be slow. He truly wants you to succeed. I'd 100% take him again!
I've taken almost three math courses with Professor Tibebu, and each class has been a great experience. He explains concepts clearly and makes sure students really understand before moving on. His teaching style is patient and organized, and he helps you focus on what matters most.
I have taken him for calc 2+3, diff eq, and have linear with him next semester. He gives amazing lectures and cares about the students. The lectures and in-class examples prepare you very well for the exams. Attendance is important, but he is very understanding if something comes up or if you run into any issues (just email him). I highly recommend
