I think he is the only one who teaches it, so good luck trying to understand him (he's Asian). His practice tests he provides (also get tests from previous semesters)are bread and butter for a good grade. Questions are exact and accumulate 75-80% of test. Like I said, real challenge is understanding him.
I couldn't understand a word he said. I read the book and did lots of research and managed a "B".
he's hard as hell but he's good

I think he is a great teacher. A lot of the concepts I didn't understand in the previous ISDS statistical course, I finally understood in his class. I think his practice exams and lecture were very thorough. I like that he gives you an example and then makes you work an example on your own in class. It really helps you learn the material.
This guy is great. He makes everything very, very clear. He presented stuff that I wasn't too sure about from previous ISDS and statistics classes in a way that made it very easy to remember. It is true that he is hard to understand at times but he will gladly repeat anything.
This class is pretty easy if you attend class, do your homework, and review the keywords/reading assignments he gives you. His accent was a little tough to understand at first, but after the first week, I didn't have any problems. He's willing to help students that ask for it and expects his students to put forth the effort to learn.
Couldn't understand him. The subject matter is worse than he is as a teacher.
Good teacher---hard tests.
Very structured in how he teaches. Can be hard to understand at times. If you go to class and do assignments, material is very easy.
Class is easy but his teaching style is aggravating. He repeats the same thing daily (I teach you concept not numbers) and doesn't explain things in the easiest of ways. He is picky when grading. Hard to understand at first but you get used to it. If you can grasp basic concepts, you shouldn't have to do the homework or study much with this class.
Class is pretty hard. Makes it harder than it has to be. Hard to understand, but you eventually get used to it. Sucks that he is the only one who teaches it, and it is required. If there is ever a different teacher that teaches it, take them!!
Dr. Lin is a pretty good professor, takes a little while to understand what he's saying, but once you do, you'll do fine. Make sure you do all the homework and take a look at his practice tests. If you do all that, you'll do good! tests aren't that bad, just know the material.
TEST TIPS: Study old tests. Know the multiple choice. Work the problems. Do homework, even if not that day. Do it! I did it for practice for the test. First time I took this, dropped late, retook, got a high B. This is what I did. Take good notes. Good luck!
His message is veru clear. Follow it and you will succeed! Do not argue with him, it does not take you anywhere, just wastes everyones time. Listen carefully and think what he means.
The class is fairly challenging but he gives you all of the tools to do well. If you attend classes, do the homework assignments, and study the old sample tests you will do fine.
The class is fairly challenging but he gives you all of the tools to do well. Attend classes, do the homework assignments, and study the old sample tests.
He is so hard to understand. He tells you "you don't understand you come to my office I show you" you go for honest help and he says "do homework or I can't help you" when you have done all the homework but one question which you don't understand how to do. HE TURNS YOU AWAY I can't stand him because, did homework and came for help and was turned a
hard to understand, but very easy, just do all the homework, and study the practice tests, wouldnt buy the book, never uses in class except for a few times, save some money, go over practice tests and attend class to understand the power points,is very is if you go to class and write down notes, and do the hw and practice tests.
His class is very easy if you go to class every time and pay attention. He is hard to understand and will not help you very much. He seems to get "annoyed" if you ask questions so just ask a friend. For the exams, do the homework and study the practice tests. Most of the material is pretty straight forward. There aren't many surprises on the exams
Students will always complain about Dr. Lin. Esp. when they miss classes. The only grades are the tests. As long as you sit through the class and work the examples in class it's pretty simple. No tricks or surprises (unless he explicitly explained how to work them out prior to the test). Don't be intimidated by his reputation. No help w/o h.w. done
i don't like him he never helps anybody. " no homework no credit"
I took ISDS 702 online and you have to figure out everything on your own. Not helpful what so ever! All he will do is send you the page in the text & copy/paste what he already had posted in moodle. Could have been a lot easier class if he would have posted examples or explained the problems. This course was basically buy the book and self teach
Make sure your read all the messages he posts. Don't argue with him, he will not respond well. The only grades that matter are the four testing grades. Don't fall behind in this class -- it's a challenging class and when coupled with Dr. Lin teaching style --very difficult. The good news is he responds to email lightning fast.
Very stingy with helping and has a heavy tone of being condescending. I'd try not to take it personally. It's WAY better to pair up with classmates and form study groups. Your only grades are four tests. Be there everyday, study the homework he provides becuase it's nearly the same as on the test.
Inundate you with info on the main screen. You will have to read and learn highly complicated statistics by yourself, no lectures etc. If you dont understand from reading you can email for help but must show him your work. Tests are tough with a lot of conceptual questions, not just calculations. You really need to know "why" you are doing it.
This may as well be an independent studies class with an aggressive timeline. Professor is rigid and not helpful. He thinks that if you study enough and are dedicated, you will do well. NOT! The concepts are difficult, no matter how smart you are, and he does not explain anything. When you ask questions he refers you back to the book!
This was by far the worst online class I've taken in my MBA. The teacher is absolutely horrendous. There are 4 tests in the class and that is all. Nothing else counts towards your grade. His structure is just ridiculous. The amount of content he's posted there along with the same stuff just repeated over and over and over. Horrible!
I have been getting straight As in the MBA program and this class seriously tests your learning abilities because you do not have BS assignments to boost up your grade. I got an A in the course and figured out mistakes on the additional readings and the professor gave me extra credit on my test. If you understand the concept, you will do fine
This is one of the best online classes I have ever taken. Dr. Lin didn''t assign busywork, forum posts, or essays about how the math makes you feel. He simply gave three exams and a comprehensive final, all equally weighted, and all multiple choice. The material is simple. Learn it, and get an 'A'.
Went to him for help and he makes you feel like the biggest idiot ever. He is so condescending and if you ask for help he assumes you didn't do your work. For one of the chapters he wanted the problems to be done one way- but the book teaches a different way. he makes it practically impossible to make an A as an online student. TAKE IN CLASS
This class is very difficult and quite tedious. You are expected to learn advanced statistical concepts in a short period of time with little guidance and no help. You have 3 test composed of 50 questions in a 3hr time period and a comprehensive final. He doesn't post any examples or has any other assignments that can help your grade.
I've taken a lot of online courses, but this is the only one where you can't even see the other participants in the course. No interaction between students means no discussion and learning from each other. No interaction from the instructor. Take someone else if available.
Worse class ever
Basically, it was here is the book. Learn it. If you have problems, go study the book.
Condescending, arrogant and offers zero help. If you take this class you are truly on your own. If you haven't taken advanced math classes you will not pass.
The exams were so difficult that I was having panic attacks during the exams. The exams are 3 hrs long and you need every minute. Be sure to do the homework and have it available during tests. Some of the questions are variations of homework questions. For example, he might ask, "With respect to question 5, if blah blah was changed to blah blah"
The professor provides a study plan for you to follow, but you are expected to do it by yourself with no actual teaching involved. I read the book and had a question, so I emailed the instructor. He instructed me to read the book, and when I advised I had, he told me to read it again. I had to hire a tutor to pass the class.
Very disappointed with this class and this professor. I have a doctorate in another field and have A's in all of my other MBA classes, but I was happy to get a C in this class. When I emailed the professor with a specific question, he referred me back to the book--very unhelpful. If possible, take this class from a different instructor.
Dr. Lin gets a bad rep because a lot of students fail to follow simple instructions. Absolutely everything that he tests on is provided to you on his moodle page. You must read his notes on moodle, and do the practice questions and homework he gives you. They make the tests easy, but you must practice on your own.
The horror stories I heard about this class and Dr. Lin. None of it was true. I thought he was funny, intelligent and yes he expected you to work. I studied with a group of my classmates, this helps a lot. We all got As. I am about to take him again for my masters degree and I am not worried in the slightest.
I have not seen such an awful professor like him.
I took this professor for an online ISDS 705 course and I never once had any kind of contact with them whatsoever. Everything, and I mean, answers and all, were included to the "assignments" we were given but not expected to turn in. We took 3 tests, all of which were open book. I don't see how anyone could get below an A in this class.
There are only 3- 2 hour proctored tests that are open book open notes all multiple choice and pretty straight forward to find. I never reached out to the professor for anything but seems very hands off. Anyone with little effort should be able to get minimum b in that class if you need more assistance and learning not your best choice.
This class is graded on the cumulative score of 3 open-book proctored exams. Read the assigned chapters so you can easily find the terms/passage in the textbook. Frankly, the proctoring process was more nerve-wracking than the exams itself. What impressed me about Dr. Lin is how responsive and nice he was when I had a question.
Overall a good professor. Only corresponds through email for online students.
Class included 3 quizzes, that's it. If not familiar with IT, get ready to teach yourself. Uses ProctorU where you must schedule exams during 1 day. You are charged if rescheduling w/in 72 hours of exam. So much for flexibility. Horrible.
The class consists of reading materials that were posted on Moodle and taking three closed book tests. The proctored tests have 50 questions and are random trivia questions. I am not why this is a required course for business. There are no discussions or no activities to engage with the material or the instructor.
Three exams over hoards of material (chapters, online articles) with no direction. The ProctorU system is atrocious-- my proctor was extremely rude and they ended up messing up my desktop settings to where I am unsure of what they did. Only one day to take the exam... I thought we did the online MBA for flexibility? Haven't heard a peep from him.
POINTLESS for MBA. Prof does nothing to keep students engaged or interested. 3 tests- require ProctorU- a ridiculous requirement, proctor was rude & accused me of cheating twice although a 1 pg note sheet was allowed for test?... TONS of reading material for each exam, NO supplemental assignmts to help grade. Haven't heard from prof once. Avoid!!!
This class is crazy. Three proctored exams is all you get in the class, when other sections have Homework, quizzes, exams etc. I would stay away from this instructor if possible.
The class is nothing but reading chapter after chapter, paper after paper, article after article. The "professor" is 100% non existent. It's 3 tests, that's it, so there's zero room for error. You have to schedule the tests with ProctorU, which requires you to select a specific time on a specific date. Eliminates the flexibility of online classes.
I thought the class was decently structured. There was no busy work; your grade is based on 3 proctored exams. Each of the 3 modules contained 3-4 chapters in the textbook, and 6 or so articles/videos. He lets you use a note sheet on the exams as well. The class is basically 100% self-taught, but the expectations were clear, so I had no issues.
really a SELF TAUGHT course with only 3 proctored exams! i hated this course i dropped it do to the fact that my grade would consist of only 3 exams! by the way they are not easy! if you take this professor GOOD luck. take my advice, get the other professor, if not available wait to take the course next term!
The grading is only based on 3 - 2-hour exam nothing more than that. I want to suggest choose another professor rather than taking this professor.
This graduate level class was online. I had zero contact with the professor, but I never had any questions. 3 tests, all multiple choice and T/F. If you read all the chapters, articles, and notes you will make an A. You are allowed to have 2 pages of notes for test. I was able to get everything I needed with small margins and 7.5 font.
I have never taken a class where the instructor was totally absent. Absolutely no participation by the instructor. Simply three modules of reading with three tests. That's it. No lecture. No discussion. No feedback of any kind. No reinforcement of how this material might apply to anyone.
Teacher was a ghost. I never received an email or feedback from this teacher. I do not know anything about him or what he looks like. Luckily the material posted was fairly self-explanatory, but to not interact at least once with online students is disrespectful. You can have 2 pages of notes for tests. My suggestion: small font, wide margins.
the class is very straight forward, go to class, do the homework if you have questions Dr. Lin is there for you but, you must show your homework
This is a grad online course so I'm not sure why people expect SO much interaction from a professor. If that's the case, maybe do not take an online course. Syllabus is clearly stated. 3 Modules, articles, and videos to read/watch. Then 3 test per module. Simple. You can have 2 sheets (front/back) of scratch notes. Best course. I got an A on test 1
If you are self-motivated & organized, then you won't find an easier professor. It's a ton of reading and only 3 tests with a 2pg Word doc cheat sheet. Take notes as you read then reformat Word for 6pt font and no margins. I was able to condense 15pg docs to fit onto the cheat sheet. No weekly assignments or busy work. Don't procrastinate. Easy A.
Judge for yourself. First MBA class, I started class w/out any knowledge of tech & IS - got an A. Great class for someone w/ a busy schedule as there are only 3 proctored tests (allowed 1 two-sided 11.5x8 note sheet, used 6.5 font) no other assignments. Much material (chapters, articles, videos) if you read & take notes you will get a B or higher.
Basically, the class wasn't hard, but there are no short cuts. In order to get a good grade, you MUST complete all the reading and create your study guides as you read. Youre allowed one sheet of typed notes front and back for each of your 3 exams. There is a ton of reading so be prepared to spend a lot of time going through the material.
Lots of reading, but the tests are really straightforward. Not much interaction with Dr. Lin, but it isn't necessary. When he opens the module, he opens all activities, so you have a couple of weeks to study before the test. No unnecessary busy work!
You are graded on 3 exams with 50 questions each. The questions are pretty specific but you are allowed 2 pages of notes to help. Just use MS word and squeeze the margins at 8 font and you'll have nearly everything you need. If you don't like busywork then he's great, but don't expect much communication. One assignment per day and you're good.
He's not going to communicate that often accept to advise you to schedule your exams. There are 3 tests and no assignments to turn in, so you have to do well on the exams to pass. You're allowed to use 2 pages of typed notes on tests and don't underestimate the reading assignments/videos sometimes half the test pertain to those subjects. Good luck
I would take Lin's class again for sure. Very reasonable professor and gives students a chance to do well, without loading them down with tons of work.
3 exams with 1 pages of notes allowed. Material is outdated and the textbook needs a serious upgrade. Seriously if you are a good reader and note taker you could do this class in 3 days and get a good grade. Tests window is only 1 day so everyone takes it on that day. Take notes from all the "activities", use small print and you can get a easy A.
Does not answer emails and when he does it is just copy and pasted. Most of the time the response does not even pertain to your question. The tests are timed are so drug out that if you do not answer within 30 secs on each question you wont finish. I highly do NOT recommend this teacher.
I never saw him. I never heard his voice. There were no calls and no lectures. The syllabus, the message forums, and the textbook are the only things to guide you. I did fine in the class, but I felt like I wanted to learn from someone, rather than do a self assessment. There were only three graded assignments (all exams) for the entire course.
Out of the 6 courses I've taken at LSUS this by far was the worst I've taken. Only has 3 big, 3 hour tests. He neatly outlines what will be on the tests however the problem is 75% of the test only covered one problem with just tons of variations. 90% of the material you study for won't be on the test. Should have listened to these bad reviews!!!!!
This is my first withdrawal from the course, and I regret for taking this class. Crib sheet allowed, but was of no use as it was all maths questions than theoretical. Operations management class, but nothing with management. I studied hard but it was all in vain. Stay away from this class...
I know a lot of people do not like the fact the class only has 3 graded assignments which are proctored exams. However, I enjoyed not having the extra assignments. Exams are important no matter how a class is structured. The test were heavy with mathematical problems but that followed the HW practice problems he posted.
Only 3 tests which each covered a ton of material and no useful study guides. He does allow one cheat sheet, but it wasnt all that useful because of the amount of information. No lectures - no messages except when started class. Worst class Ive taken in the MBA program and I only have 2 left.
3 exams 50 questions (multiple choice & true/false) can have 1 cheat sheet front and back (I recommend size 6 to get everything on it). Each module has 10+ reading assignments (chapter in book, article, video), take good notes and it will be an easy A. Professor is a joke and clearly phoned it in, LSUS should be embarrassed he "works there"
Theres 3 tests and each test is made up from 12-14 activities you have to read or watch on your own time. I hate that there arent any other grades or points you can earn besides the 3 tests.
AVOID!! Self-taught class. Grade based on only 3 Exams & final with no review. No homework or assignments. Allows cheat sheet, but won't help. Never knew I could fail with notes. If you email him for help he'll copy and paste notes from Moodle. Does not help or seem to care. I was forced to withdraw to avoid failing. Take literally anyone else!
3 quizzes. That's it. You get to have a cheat sheet. The textbook was incredibly easy to read. Probably the easiest class I have ever had. Read, write notes, straightforward exam. I never needed to reach out to the professor. it's a basic information system class. if you have previous knowledge, it will be a good class.
Class is very easy if u use the cheat sheet effectively. There are only 3 tests, so make them all count. This is how u do it: As u read the chapters, copy & paste important info to a Word Doc. Highlight & Bold print key words to help locate what u need during the exam. Scale down to 6 pt font. Print to front and back of 1 pg and u have all u need.
Absent professor but easy A
Professor may or may not exist. Sent only one non-template email the entire term. Truly phoning it in. That said, the entire class is at your own pace, which is nice. Expectations are also very clear and test is based directly on assigned materials with no surprises. Doing all assignments and making thorough "cheat sheet" makes the tests very fair.
MBA746, TONS of material to learn, syllabus outdated and not what test is actually on, tons of math/statistic, lots of busy work and all info posted is rude and condescending. Avoid at all costs.
MBA746 should, at the very least, have a disclaimer that explains this is a self-taught course and an updated syllabus. The grade is based on 3 Exams with no opportunity to review, no gradable homework/assignments, and zero engagement for learning through discussions. This course is a disservice to the students who are paying for an education.
I would not recommend taking this class. Your only grades for the whole semester are 6 exams that have 50 questions. After completing the exam, you can not go back and review it. So, you never know what you're getting wrong. This professor provides no homework or class work to prepare other than PowerPoint and key terms.
This class only has 3 grades, and they are all tests. So, if you don't do good on 1, it drastically affects your overall grade. The tests have a lot of tricky True/False questions, so be prepared. This class requires a lot of reading, and a lot of the material is not even covered on the test.
50-question exam during weeks 3, 5, 7 (multiple choice & true/false). One page cheat sheet (front and back) can be used on the exam. Your grade is based solely on the three exams which come from the provided textbook, articles, and videos. Prepare for lots reading and taking good notes. No group work. Self-taught course.
The professor was unnecessary in this course. You have to read a chapter then take a test. Notes are provided but they don't cover everything on the exams. You just have to do your best to try to either memorize two whole chapters for the test or guess what to focus on to prepare for the tests.
Worst professor ever! Graded on only 3 100-point exams. The material is YouTube videos, long articles, and documentaries. No personalization at all. You have to learn the material yourself, the tests are tricky and "trip you up." Squeezed by with a B by acing the final exam, but if you can take it without him I would strongly suggest.
All information needed for exams was provided + you can have a crib sheet for exams. The reading materials, while outdated like most LSUS MBA materials, were informative and the concepts built on each other. If you make an effort to understand the concepts and use the crib sheet to jog your memory during exams, you'll ace the class.
The whole class is a few readings, youtube, and coursera videos. It feels like the professor put in minimal effort to put the class together. If I didn't need the class for my degree I would've asked for a refund immediately. Only 3 exams, tricky questions, have to teach yourself.
I took Lin Binshan's online class, and your entire grade is based on three exams. He provides 16 ungraded “assignments” with little input, which don't fully prepare you. Exams focus mainly on two topics, with repeated questions showing a lack of effort and some missing correct answers. I recommend avoiding this professor—there are better options.
only has 3 grades for entire class- very overwhelming methodology for class
Spent about 2 hours in its entirety on this class. Familiarize yourself with the crib sheets so you dont spend too much time looking for content during the test. Minimal work required to get a B. Never did any of the assignments in class.
Only three test grades given the entire class and an extreme amount of information. You can make and use a crib sheet so that is a plus.
If you get overstimulated easy, avoid at all costs. Whole class is on one Monstrous wallof text in moodl. Half broken up thanks to Moodl headers, but random links, old bullets, rules, and "resources" all slammed right into the block of text. Test heavy with multiple repeat questions. word "required" all over but 3 exams are the only grades. First B
So much info, don't expect to retain anything. Make crib sheet margins/font small, put EVERYTHING on it.3 tests, 50questions multiple choice/true/false, no other grades. One week there was 29 pages of text, 17 pages of notes, & 2 articles. The professor is not involved, self-taught course. Info was not very useful for real life imo. Necessary Evil?
