Abrams is hilarious. He is a really great professor and I am so glad I had him this semester. Be careful in this class; he may try to trick you to make you think. In lab make sure you understand what you're doing each step of the way, and if you don't, go see him; he expects his students to have questions. He challenges you but helps you. :)

Professor Abrams is an acquired taste for sure. I couldn't stand him the majority of the time, but some people found him hilarious. His labs were tedious for the most part. A lot of waiting for solutions to filter or boil or react completely. Lab write-up standards are arbitrary and often unclear.

The 4 hour labs were very long and tedious. There are 2 formal lab reports that are graded very meticulously. On the other lab write ups, a lot critical thinking is needed and expected. Postlab question were sometimes unclear. Professor Abrams seemed to "talk down" to students when in large groups; one on one however, he was very personable.

He's okay. Lab assignments can be very vague, which isn't helpful to anyone-- in fact, it's really annoying and tedious. Otherwise, he seems like a good guy and explains stuff well in lecture. Lab grading, like the assignments, is also vague. You find out how it's graded after the fact.

His sense of humor is incredible, and yet he still manages to teach us everything we need to know. Once, when I asked why my lab grade wasn't posted yet, he said "I have a meeting with my TF's in 30 minutes, I'll be like 'Where is his lab, YO, Imma bust a cap in yo ass.'" And then he stroked his beard. Favorite professor ever.

Professor Abrams is a really funny professor, and he explains the concepts very clearly. The lab manual he wrote is also very comprehensive, and explains exactly how to do each problem. So Abrams expects a great deal more out of 111/112 kids. You have to remember that he doesn't grade anything, he just sets the guidelines for grading but the TFs do all the grading. People often make CH101 sound worse than it is. With Abrams, I looked forward to the lectures and understood the material well after them. I would read the textbook before the lecture just so I had an introduction, went to lecture, and then did the assigned homework problems on that topic. I thought that organization helped me learn and not cram.

He makes lots of jokes, but when you're on the verge of a mental breakdown because the material is so difficult, it's a little tone-deaf.
