Excellent teacher,Talks a lot but entertaining.Sometimes the class drags on a bit .Grades on both effort and content. Fair, and a relaxed class
Nice grader. Unhelpful/unclear at times. Entertaining. Recommended anyway. She's quite a character.

She looks hot and has a great body. She rambles on sometimes, but she is the coolest.Easy grader.Gives you questions to prepare beforehand and gives you one of those questions in the exam.Easy B with a bit of effort an A is not out of reach
She's easy going and funny. Sometimes she goes off topic and starts talking about crazy things, but hey, that's cool with me.
Awsome teacher...one of the few I will probably remeber. Very funny and entertaing. Cool.
Nice Person. Doesn't make you show up to class. Goes off talking about sex all the time but thats ok.
Brilliant professor! Also generous. Makes the analytic method so intriguing & fun that the class gets pulled into deeper channels of thought.Demanding grader. Looks for signs of intellectual life.
I wouldn't go all the way as to say she is 'brilliant.' most of her tests are based on HER opinions, so u kinda have to understand her logic. not a very fun class, hard tests but fair grader + extra credit... u never know what to study!!!
You dont have to go to class but in a way you do b/c to figure out her thinking. If you understand her youll do great on the tests but if you think differently youll barely get by. Shes nice and helpful but the material is confusing. At the end you feel like running out of class b/c your so lost.
Tregenza is usually too nervous to get her point across. I found it hard to take notes in her class because she would ramble on about nothing. PHIL 200 is a GE course - so you know it's gonna be boring as hell.
when i took her she never came to class.Never I'm talking 2/3 days a week she didnt show. She even missed our final exam. So basically if she doesnt need to come then u dont either. Basically take something else or waste ur time in a class with a teacher who doesnt care enough to show up to teach u.
I took her philosophy class this semester and I think she did a fine job teaching it. She made the class interesting and fun. If you needed help on something you could always chat with her before and after class, office hours and email. Great professor.
According to her Marx is just misunderstud, & U.S. is a big bad imperialistic wolf. Can u say so-ci-a-list? Not my cup of tea. All her definitions seem to come from Marx & Engels' dictionary. Ha! Does this school pick only hard-core liberal socialists for their social studies dept.? Ticks me off!
Ridiculous lady with bizarre opinions. "You might get a little pleasure from eating chicken, but for the chickens, Ohhh the horror!" It's miserable to have to sit there and listen to her nonsense.
very interesting person, but awfull teacher cuz she jumps from one subject to another, this is a very interesting class but very hard to capture so many different views
I took her philosophy of feminism class. She's awesome. It was a hard class, but I learned a lot. It was fun and interesting.
Totally awesome teacher. She is very enthusiastic and really pushes for participation. Go to class, take notes, read the book, do the homework and the tests will be fine. They're usually similar to class problems and if not, then she adds points to everyone's test.
Cool professor. Class rocks. Uses up-to-date cutting edge case studies, mostly involve multinational corporations. Makes learning theories fun.
Very nice person but VERY unclear; she does not go over each theory separately and clearly. Instead, you're kinda lost as to what means what and who says what. Also, DO NOT expect to talk about business ethics (as you might think based on the course title)because you will not. The cases are summarized but the theories are not applied to them...
easy teacher. just know key concepts. She jumps around a lot but good over all
Overall great teacher. A little goofy, but nice person, laid back attitude and makes you think. If you study the material and know the theories you should do great on the tests. One of the best professors I've had at CSUN ... made class really interesting.
Not a great teacher. She's very nice, but kinda confusing. She was very giving to my class (grade wise) but said she wouldn't be that way again. She dropped our lowest grade, but like I said she wasn't going to do that again. A couple of tests and a group project, no homework. I got a B, but I think I could have done better in a different class
Good instructor overall... tries to get the class involved at all times. Very generous with grades. She tends to jump around, but that may be due to the material being presented... grade based on 1 mini group presentation and 3 tests... would definately recommend.
A little bit confusing because she goes back and forth with different theories and philosophers. Very easy grader, and as long as you know how to bs in the essay you'll be fine. I got an A.
Extremely helpful teacher. Came to class injured and still stayed after to help us with our questions. I thought she was very clear, and full of great anecdotes that link to the subject being taught. Engages the class, and has a good sense of humor. People say she's not clear, and that she jumps around. They need to take their ADHD Meds.Take her!
The worst prof i have taken so far. i thought this class would be interesting, but she has no idea of what she is talking about. she jumps form one thing to another. her lectures are extremely boring and i was only their for an hour.dont take her unless u like being completely lost in a class and bored. horible teacher, dont know y she is a teacher
She does not know how to teach. She was very hard to understand since half the things she said did not make sense. She epitomizes the pompus stereotype of Philosopher...uses many complicated words to say for example "I ate a cheese sandwich for lunch". She is not helpful at all.
She was OK. The class is just not that interesting. I felt that she could have done a better job of relating business ethics to real life situations students might be in rather than weird scenerios. But overall an alright class. She gives essay questions before the test so that's helpful to study. She likes when students participate in discussions.
Demanding reading. Had to dig through the political theory of Hobbes to Foucault. Worth it when it meant I could join & not just watch the exciting brainstorming discussions. Cool & kindhearted prof.
She is such a great teacher.....she is so funny and makes small jokes that only some catch...there is allot of reading but she is very flexible with the class and adjusts the class schedule to the classs....there is only a midterm, final and a presentation...super easy and she gives you the questions before hand....such a nice feminist teacher....
Class would be really boring if it werent for people who were willing to play devils advocate with her. She loves it when you participate, and will totally get off schedule with topics. Read the book before class, thats all that's talked about. 3 essay exams (she gives you the questions 1 week in advance) I presentation (if you do it u get an A)
The class is really confusing. If you try though she will pass you. Participation a plus.
She is such an awesome teacher. If you don't understand the class, you're probably not doing the reading. There is a lot to read, but her expectations and grades are fair. She is a great teacher!
Class is pretty dull. Lots of reading, so make sure you read before hand. Three essay questions and a presentation.
The textbook is incomprehensible, and so is this professor. She may be funny at times, but as far as being helpful for material that she puts on the exams, she basically let's the students figure it all out and gives no concrete help. I've never felt so hopeless about a class in my life, and I'm a 4.0 student. Just don't take this class.
She is exactly the type of teacher that universities have been overlooking. She is liberal and brilliant-minded. She is respectful and respectable; thoroughly understanding and kind toward student needs. She teaches philosophy the way it should be thought. You do the work, do the reading, and bring what you've learned to the table.
Its crucial to attend class and be involved or at least listening to the discussions and lectures. She shows a lot of documentaries which are really really good, but the tests are based on the reading and applying the philosophies. Reallly helpful and interesting to listen to.
DO NOT TAKE HER! AVOID HER IF POSSIBLE! First, she's very weird. Second, she doesn't even teach! Most importantly, she taught RADICAL EXTREME feminists' view. AND, she showed ridiculous movies portraying women as livestock and how men need to be eliminated in our society. AVOID HER!!!!!!!!!!
This class was torture. Imagine being in an environment where lectures are extruciatingly boring and useless, but can't leave because prof. grades attendance and purposefully keeps you until the last minute (or over) by handing out the roster or giving back exams at the very end of class. Fortunately class is very easy, receieved an A.
She is awesome!!! Knows a lot and is so much help!!
can someone tell us how she do the tests? is there any sample essay questions that we would read and have some idea about how she wants the eassay's to be done for a good grad? please any info would help.
Brilliant. She is a genius. A true kind hearted spirit. A soul full of knowledge and love. If only every teacher was like her.
AVOID HER!!!!! SHE IS SO WIERD!!!
Why can't every teacher be like her? She'll probably be the most sincere and provoking teacher you'll have in college experience. Have fun, open up your mind.
She was always late for our am class, but good teacher. 3 tests, she gives you handout of readings that are on the test. Very easy grader, did not study much and got a B.
Canceled class often. Disorganized. Did not have control of the Freshman students. I actually wanted to learn but her teaching skills did not become polished until the last month of the semester. She also ignores certain students and compares her classes such as saying her other class is better than this class.
TAKE HER CLASS!
Honestly, the professor is brilliant at what she does. However, she can't teach to save her life. She knows what she is talking about but does not get it across well. Does not explain what is expected of you and waste time by talking about her Lexus or dogs. Avoid if possible, find someone who not only knows the material but can also teach it. Avoi
She is incomprehensible. She is passionate about the material, but is unable to translate that passion to the class. Taking her class was my worst experience in higher education. Would not take her again.
I don't understand the negative comments on tregenza. I thought she was a fun professor. Eccentric, but more interesting than other professors. She made us think about the material.
I don't understand the negative comments on tregenza. I thought she was a fun professor. Eccentric maybe, but in the context of our culture. She champions causes that are offensive to students who exist within a mainstream liberal paradigm. She made us think about the material. Plus, she's hot. It seems that rating system is broken.
Truthfully, I had no interest in business ethics before this course. It was because of this professors sophisticated and eloquent style of direction and explanation that I immediately took interest in the course. Students: listen to her words and take comprehensive notes. This woman is genius...not to mention she's sexy. (cake-icing)
Class was a Joke. She gives you the test questions a week before the exams. Only 2 of them. 1 group presentation (25 people per group). Every group gets an A as long as you present. Hard grader on Exams. Easy B for sure.
This is an interesting class, so I thought, but the group project was dumb and didn't learn anything from the presentations, nor are the lectures. She's not clear on expectations for the presentations. The tests are not easy, and if you don't understand anything, she doesn't help. Grades don't reflect the effort put into the class. TA Grades tests.
Teacher was unhelpfull, and left the book to do all the teaching.Tests were chalenging but the grading was fair. Teacher waisted hours of class time, which could have been used to clarify the theories. Would not recommend.
Horrible. She never answers emails and takes forever to grade papers. Finals are coming up in 2 days and she has only graded 1 quiz. I have no idea how I'm doing in her class. And she never gives clear instructions about what she expects out of her students or what we need to study. She is also very weird. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
Didn't understand the subject or her teaching method until half way done with the semester. Even then her lectures are not very helpful, you're pretty much on your own with the textbook and the internet.
It doesn't surprise me that most of the negative comments came from business students i.e pseudo intellectuals. She is an amazing professor, and if you have an actual interest in philosophy and are not just taking her to fulfill 305 you may also agree. 2 thumbs way up!
She is an easy instructor, and her lectures are very helpful. But sometimes she is a bit unorganized. She has an assistant to help her grading the essays. Those are very easy to get an A also. Just understand the cases and the basic theories, business philosophy is just like a piece of cake.
Excellent professor! She is a bit unorganized, and often we don't get to finish going over the week's assignments! However, visit her office hours and she will clarify it. She is an easy grader, the only way you will fail this class is if you ditch class, fail to do the readings, and not try at all. She is a wonderful and brilliant person!
Make sure you read and understand all the assigned reading before the test. The reading materials are hard to understand but ask her and she will be more than happy to help you. 3 tests come straight up from the book, you'll be fine as long as your reading and writing skill are not so poor. Highly recommend her. Thank you Prof Tregenza.
3 tests, gives you questions a week before the test to prepare. It is all essays, but she doesn't care a lot about format, more about your ideas. You can pick up the main points she wants you to focus on by going to lectures but readings are necessary. One group project and she gives almost everyone an A. I got an A in the class
3 Exams, 1 Group Project. Questions in advance. If you dont keep up with reading the lectures wont make sense and seem useless. If you do read, the discussions and documentaries help tie everything in and give you a better understanding of the subject matter. She is very down to earth, understanding and offers one on one help if you dont understand
I came in not really knowing about business ethics. The class was a great learning experience and I have a full grasp on the concepts and am a much more informed person. She was helpful in office hours and the tests are essays. She gives all the questions a week prior and posts notes online. Great Class, I am now a more well rounded person.
I really enjoyed this online class. The work load was very reasonable and the material was very interesting. The reading is not overwhelming and pretty low in pages but can be time consuming if you really want to comprehend the material. The professor chose a good selection of reading and gave great feedback on papers. She was always helpful
3 exams 1 group project. Keep up with readings for essay style exams. Gives you 2 essay ?'s & 4 short answer ?'s before exam but only picks 1 essay and 2 short ?'s. Lectures are pointless goes off track and discusses more history stuff than what's on the essays. Essays are based on group project cases so attend those and take notes.
3 tests, 1 group project. Book is mandatory, but difficult to read. Very good professor that gives constructive critiques on exam's and explains them in depth. She sometimes gets off subject and seemingly talks forever. Difficult to stay attentive in the once a week course. Shows very interesting clips near end of class. Grades fair on exams.
The way she talks often confuses us a lot. Talks about one thing and suddenly goes off topic and comes back to what she was saying. Lots of reading required to understand the material and is hard to read through. She is very nice as a person but I would not recommend as a professor especially for learning something that is already confusing.
An Educator & Professor. I found myself engrossed in her lectures. She is well-versed and well-spoken. Her lectures resonated beyond the class for me, as it is more than memorization and test taking. That is what education is about to think beyond a grade-to take even a small bit with you in life from a class. That is what this Professor offers.
3 tests, 1 case study presentation (groups of 12+ people). Her lectures are pointless but takes attendance. I never read the books. She posts her notes on Moodle so you can use those for the tests. She gives a study guide for every test and if you study that well, then you'll be able to get an A. TA's grade the tests. She never responds to emails!
She's has a unique personality that may not be enjoyed by everyone. Overall if you pay attention to her lectures you should be able to not only pass the class but get a B-. Most of the readings can be found online and she does allow online textbooks. I recommend taking her class, always available if you have questions. Overall a great professor.
Great Professor. Is truly passionate about the subject. Took this class just to satisfy an upper division GE and it was worth it. Got out of the class with an easy A. She is more than willing to help when needed. Encourages class discussions. Take her. Study guide for the 3 essay exams and one may be dropped.
Definitely not an easy A. 3 exams, 1 group project and a lot of reading. Study guide is extremely helpful and the professor is always available if you have questions.
She gets distracted easily in her lectures. Half the class is taken up by group projects on case studies from the textbook that will be used on the test. The class overall is not that hard, but it's not very stimulating.
Professor Tregenza is an ok person. She sometimes talks about random things and there are times where you won't understand her. I know that you have to think and all in Philosophy, but sometimes she just makes it harder than it should be. Make sure you know what the readings are saying, those are the test questions that she will ask for.
I found this professor to be absolutely hilarious! After you understand her personality you'll find her to be quite funny. She's VERY intelligent and is well rounded. She curved the tests for our class so that was very thoughtful of her. Participation does matter, she gives some extra points if you have something smart to say during the lectures.
Overall, I enjoyed this class. She really does try to explain everything, but gets distracted easily. There is a TON of reading, but she makes lecture notes to help out and doesn't get insulted if you haven't read. Despite this, reading is essential. I feel like I could have learned a lot more in the class, but it was too disorganized to do to so.
She is such a nice teacher. Having said that, she gives you 3 though exams and a group project. She respond to the emails very late and it takes her for ever to grade the exams. be prepared to write 2 hard essay questions and 14 very hard multiple choice questions only in 90 mints.
Great Teacher, grades on curve, you will have 1 group project ( a powerpoint on a reading), 1 midterm, and 1 final. She goes off topic on lectures quite often. The exams have an essay portion and multiple choice. Both portions are curved. Easy class to pass, not hard to get a B. Just have to do some of the readings.
She is very knowledgeable in her field, however, she ALWAYS goes off topic and her lectures are highly boring. She decided to try out multiple choice exams this semester which were difficult. Also, instead of writing papers, she decided to turn them into 2 group presentations. I would not suggest her if you are taking this class as an elective.
The course was not enjoyable. The professor is a poor lecturer and tests on criteria she does not teach. If you can avoid taking the class; do so. It isn't hard but you will have to teach yourself everything.
She is perhaps one of the easier professors because half of the grade is on group projects that go over the concepts in class. There are two tests which account for other half the grade. Class time is mostly dedicated to lectures and discussions. Minimal txtbook use. Extremely lenient on project grade. Tests could be challenging though. Recommended
She's a great professor and a great person. She curves a lot and is very lenient on the group project, the group project consists of a presentation and a panel. Read the book because most of the test questions (all multiple choice) are from the book. The questions are bit difficult but she gives partial credit on them even if they're wrong .
Grading criteria was really unclear. We had 1 group powerpoint, 1 midterm, 1 final, and 7 forum posts of reflections based on documentaries, but I have no idea how much each assignment was worth or what she wanted for the forum posts. We got feedback on our group presentation months after we turned it in. She provides study guides for tests.
Do not take. During lectures shes not very clear as far as what she is trying to teach. She goes off topic a lot. Half of what I learned was based on my own studying from the book. Reading the book and doing the activities on your own will help. Just a midterm and final along with weekly assignments in class, in groups.
Personally I wouldn't take this professor again she is very unorganized and would always go off topic. She also didn't like if we asked too many questions. I didn't learn much in the class, mainly by reading the book.
Grading criteria for assignments was unclear making it impossible to know how to do work. Some assignments would be due in a day & yet, the problems for those assignments would not be posted. Complete assignments, & dont expect them to be graded for 7-8 weeks. And if you try to email her, dont expect a response. Do yourself a favor & steer clear!
Professor Tregenza seems like a nice person through email but her class is horribly structured. She was gone for like the first 3 weeks. She has also only graded 3 assignments the entire semester. Her ppts are not the best either. You will never know what your grade is. I am legit fearing for my grade. Hopefully that extra credit comes through!
I am so thankful with her. She kindly gave me extra time for my final due to an emergency. Stay on top of the reading assignments & study guides. She curves, a lot! Midterm, case group project, and final. Multiple choice&True/False questions plus a short essay for both midterm&final. Both worth 200pts. READ&REREAD if possible! ?'s can be tricky.
I was warned not to take this class... I really should have listened to them. I probably should have listened to them (there goes my GPA). Here lectures are really boring and her powerpoints didn't make sense. Also she didn't give any new information so I was better off not going to class. I basically taught myself.
She really works hard to make sure that every student understands all of the material in class. Participation matters in her class she will give you a higher grade if you participate a lot.
She's a nice lady but her class has little to no structure. I feel like I show up to class and don't learn anything. When she gets to the lesson it is hard to follow and her PowerPoints are no help. The reading is very difficult and most of the time no one in my class knows what's going on. I have learned everything myself in this class.
Her class structure isn't clear. There was a group project on a movie but the grading criteria wasn't clear. She rants about other things for the majority of class and then starts on her lecture. Her powerpoints aren't helpful. She gives you the questions for both midterms so if you try and do the readings the answers are available to you.
So I did the readings didnt even really take class notes. notes I did take made little sense and I must say doing the readings will let you do more than fine If you ask for help she will help especially with proofs. For the presentation just make the most sense you can of the PowerPoints and do the best you can You can do more than fine that way
Summer online. 7 discussion boards with one reply to a student, one midterm, one final. The midterm/final is multiple choice with an essay. I felt very frustrated at first since she did not provide any grading rubrics and we were expected to know what work deserved an A, B, etc. But, if you effectively incorporate the book with the posts A. Take.
2 words No Structure, the lecture slides aren't to the point and the mid term and final are different to the lecture slide would a avoid this class even though the subject seems easy
Prof. Tregenza is a little odd, but still a lovely/kind person. Shes very mindful of students feelings and opinions. Her grading criteria is often unclear and the course as a whole is disorganized, but if you take the initiative to ask questions shell give thorough answers. Shes also understanding As long as you do the reading, its an easy A.
I let the 3 point rating fool me into thinking "maybe average is ok" but let me save you from the same fate I had. She's a very nice lady but her lectures are confusing and go off topic constantly. Readings are complex but there is no guidence so it's hard to understand. Because the readings are difficult the exams are hard. DO NOT TAKE HER!
She doesn't give any homework. She's really nice but her lectures go off topic and never provides a rubric. Her tests are all essay based. I only passed this class because of a class group chat, asking questions, and attending the Zoom meetings. You have to want to get an A in this class and work for it. I don't recommend if you want an "easy A".
This professor is so odd. Didn't learn much just wanted to get a good grade. There's two group projects and she isn't really clear on what she wants but as long as you make it interesting and impress her you'll do fine. The assignments and final are passable but you kind of have to teach yourself since she is so confusing and doesn't lecture good.
I took the asynchronous version. It was hard to learn cause she doesn't have lectures. She grades the homework really slow too. But she seems nice and accessible outside of class. If English isn't your first language, you might have a hard time.
Great class. took a while to get used to online format, but if you put in the work you can learn a lot. leaves a lot of feedback on discussion posts and exams. always willing to help. would recommend.
To pass her class, get ready to read. You need to be able to understand the concepts in the majority of the assigned readings to do well on her tests. Graded on two midterms, a final, and discussion posts. Im lucky that I found the readings interesting, because if I hadnt, the tests would have been super difficult to do well on without reading.
One of the best profs I've ever had. She loves answering your questions (ask anything, there's no judgement here) and loves to chat with students after class! Interesting subject matter and the homework/exam are challenging enough to really have you think and understand what you're learning. If u want an easy A, dont take. otherwise, take!!!!!
Professor Birgit Tregenza is amazing Professor. She has a good heart so she knows how to encourage you to keep up your hard work. This class has a lot of assigned readings, but if you work hard, you will be fine.
I took PHIL200 asynchronously and let me tell you... not the best idea. The reading and her lecture slides were highly confusing. She is a lovely woman and allows you to turn in something late once throughout the semester. She would also delay due dates a couple of times which was a help. Nice lady, but confusing class.
If you can't keep up with lots of reading, SKIP HER. We had to ask her to give us specific chapters instead of just saying "read Plato's Republic by next week." Grade is based on the midterm, group project, and final, and she's the type who expects good, engaging analysis but won't give clear criteria. Great class discussions & lovely prof though!
Do not take this class!!! My entire class has failed almost every quiz and exam which is a huge part of your grade, and she also graded my forum responses extremely harshly. She has such a bad curve and ruined my gpa because she does not want her students to pass, I emailed her so many times asking for help but received none. nice but not worth it
Terrible Professor. Majority of the class failed, she grades harsh with the discussion, earlier in the semester she said this was the worst 1 of her classes had performed. Stay away from her. This is probably the most difficult class I have ever taken. This is also my first time ever writing on rate my professor; so this says something about Birgit.
Jesus Christ this was a hard class. don't take online whatever you do, her powerpoint were super vague and didn't give you what you needed. It was semi straight forward for the tests, but it was just a hard class in general. Avoid if you can, but if you try you won't fail.
Her test/quizzes were so unbelievably frustrating. It was hard to score anything above 70%. Lots of reading. Requires us to watch films that go along with the discussions which are time consuming. Her tests also have scheduled times despite the class being 100% asynchronous which interfered with many students' schedules. But nice person.
I took this class online and I barely learned anything. Basically she assigns readings and makes you watch a documentary for every unit. The quizzes are extremely difficult and she is a tough grader when it comes to discussions. She does curve grades on quizzes but usually the class average on a quiz is around 50%. She also takes a while to grade.
Worst professor I have taken! Insanely difficult quizzes and exams, average is around 50-60%! You will stress all semester having a bad grade, then does massive curve at the end of semester. Nice professor, but the concepts and knowledge she expects is honestly ridiculous. Amount of work is fair, but she expects you to have a PhD in Philosophy!
Her last semester. You guys are so lucky you don't have to take her class. It was the worst class I've ever taken at CSUN in my entire life.
Unfair grader. Favoritism plays a big role in this class.
Birgit's class is challenging, but engaging if you put in the work. Readings and quizzes are tough, but unstuck AI and ChatGPT were lifesavers for study prep. Be ready to commit time and effort.
