he is not understanding at all. oftentimes will go against his own word. he also speaks into a mic at full volume and will go in circles during his 40 min tangents.
Treats his students like middle schools, contradicts himself all the time, lectures over zoom in an IN PERSON class, TA's do all of the actual teaching. Attendance is mandatory even if you have everything finished, will throw a fit if you leave class even 5 minutes early. If you have the option DO NOT take mat117 with Dhakal.
Treats his students like little kids, is disrespectful, and you have to show up to class for a fully online course. Everything is on ALEKS, but you are forced to go to class, even if you are ahead. The TAs do all of the teaching. Even on email, he is disrespectful. He gets pissed at you if you leave 5 minutes early. NEVER take MAT117 professor.
AVOID this professor, we were given assigned seats with over 30 students in one row, it was hard to learn, he does not teach. this is an in person class that we are mandatory to show up even tho the work is all online through aleks. he does ZOOM calls to teach before exams on a IN PERSON CLASS. avoid him.
He does not help at all. Everything is online and he does not explain things at all. He is not very nice and is not flexible. He does zoom meeting while we are in class and we have to join it for attendance. He likes to count you off for attendance as much as possible. He finds any excuse to count you absent.
I would avoid taking this professor. He doesn't teach at all, the entire class is taught online through Aleks. The only time he actually lectures is on Zoom and he rarely does that. The TAs are way more helpful than him. Attendance is 3% of grade, but he's strict about taking it. He offers quiz corrections for partial points back which is nice.
Worst teacher i've ever had.
AVOID. Worst teacher I have ever had. He doesn't teach anything at all but he makes us all show up and sit there to do the work online through ALEKS. The TAs are helpful and they are the ones who teach the class. He will do anything to count you absent and take off points. I had a doctor's note and he gave me a zero for the week.
Hard to understand, repeats himself, doesn't stop talking. Whole course is through Aleks where you teach the material to yourself. The TAs were more helpful then him. Its easy but can be annoying to complete. Exams are 12 questions, the final is 18.
This guy doesn't really teach much. The whole course is through ALEKS where you teach yourself the material. He is there to help you, but he is hard to understand and not great at explaining things. The TAs are far more helpful. This class is super easy but kind of a pain.
Others don't realize the class format (online) isn't up to the professor. He does a good job at doing reviews & helping with the TAs but the course is unfortunately strictly on ALEKS. No extra credit so your grades rely on the 3 exams and final; topic completion/attendance isn't heavily weighted. Really nice guy though who appreciates nice students
He was an alright teacher, this class is mostly self taught.
Worst teacher I've ever had. No compassion, no empathy. Don't take any class with this man.
There are many negative reviews on this professor, due to the layout of the MAT 117 class. MAT 210 is set up completely different and is designed to have in person math lectures. 117 was not the same and therefor reflects negatively on Dhakal, but it was just the way the course was designed. I took Dhakal for 117 and now I have him for 210.
People Misunderstand the class. MAT117 is a SELF-TAUGHT class. People do not understand that them failing at teaching themselves and learning is not the professor's fault. He has his own requirements of the class and is actually very nice if you go and talk to him about some problems. He has mandatory attendance. His TA's are always very helpful.
ngl ez class. put in the work and u will do well. his TA's are super nice and respectable. I had ethan as a TA in the class, helped me every class and I did very well on the final. homework gets annoying sometimes, don't leave it for last sec.
He is such a fantastic teacher! I have been in this class for a few weeks, but I already love his teaching style. He mostly uses Doc Cam and iPad and sometimes uses whiteboards. He posts the notes after the class. Notes are well organized, and the handwriting is excellent! I would take him to any classes he teaches!
I took him for MAT117 and am currently taking MAT210. I am a freshman, and professor Dhakal is the only professor I repeated so far at ASU. We just finished our first exam, and I excelled; it is all because of his encouragement and teaching style. He grades fairly and provides partial credits. He is a considerate and fair professor.
He taught nothing in class, leaving you to fight for yourself. Despite an A, it was all due to tutoring and help from a friend. The course relies on ALEKS, yet he wants you to attend his class.
you will end up teaching yourself a lot of the content, and the professor makes you feel bad for asking a question or gives you a lot of snark in the response which is so unnecessary and discouraging. also misled a student during a quiz and refused to take responsibility for it.
His quizzes are easy. He provides an extra credit. Professor Bishal is an amazing teacher.
Terrible, terrible, terrrible
I respect how hard it is to teach in a different language, but trying to understand what he says is difficult. He goes on long tangents that lead to nowhere, he somehow manages to overexplain everything while not explaining anything at all. Extremely condescending when you ask questions + talks down to multiple students. Dont take a class with him.
Professor Dhakal was very accommodating and helpful. I liked the constant and consistent emails and announcements! Those were really helpful, and they definitely made me feel like he cared about the course and his students' success.
Bishal is a chiller and I suck at calc but I didn't think he was the greatest teacher as it was hard to understand his teaching so much so that barley anyone paid attention to him in class.
I took Brief Calculus this semester with Professor Dhakal, and it's been an amazing experience. This is the most I've learned from a math class, and he pushes me out of my comfort zone so that I'll become even better. I 10/10 recommend taking this class with him.
Dr. Dhakal truly cares about his students. He actively provides updates and announcements about deadlines or test requirements throughout the course. Very quick to respond to emails. Do the exam reviews; they are very similar to the exams.
He is a great professor! Very fast at replying to emails. He is lenient in grading tests. A lot of extra credit opportunities as well! Final exam is similar to past exams and review packets, which he reviews before every test, and it's extremely helpful! 10/10 would take his class again.
I have been a 4.0 GPA student throughout all of high school and college. This is the only class I have not received a decent grade in since sixth grade. Dhakal overcomplicates his explanations and makes everything much more difficult than necessary. His thick accent and inability to answer simple questions caused me to withdraw.
It is an easy class if you are good at math, if not don't do it. He goes back and forth for what he says will be okay for the class. You will teach your self everything. I had a problem turning in an assignment, that the asu help desk couldn't even solve. He said well that sucks for you, good luck on the next one. Do not take this class.
Professor Dhakal is an approachable professor. He posts announcements almost every day, interacts with students on InScribe, and is available every week for office hours to help students and answer any questions. The course was mostly self-paced, but it was satisfying taking an online class with him.
I took Brief Calculus this Spring and excelled in the course. Bishal does an excellent job of explaining each lesson. He made it easy for me to learn. I liked that the 2 lowest quiz grades were dropped at the end of the semester and replaced my exam 1 grade with a better final exam grade. He was accommodating and friendly.
I took an online class with Professor Dhakal this spring. He was fair and responded to any questions I had extremely fast. Also, he was consistent, timely, engaging, and helpful throughout the course. I enjoyed learning under this Professor a lot.
Bishal is a great professor. I loved his engagement and enthusiasm in helping the students learn and understand the material. He was also very accessible and made sure students felt prepared and confident for exams. I appreciate that he reviewed the WebAssign homework in class and did reviews for exams. 10/10.
He is a great and considerate professor. He will work with you if you are confused or struggling in some way - don't be afraid to reach out.
I find Professor Dhakal easy to follow. Weekly quizzes (in Canvas, paper, take home) are relatively easy and are directly based on what you learn in class. He drops two low-graded quizzes and rounds up the final grade. His quiz attendance is a 1% extra grade. He knows his stuff and is such a great guy. I would definitely recommend his class.
The grade for this class is HEAVILY based on exam scores. There are 4 exams and 1 final that will affect your grade significantly. I had to learn everything through YouTube and friends because he does not teach this course effectively. In my experience, he is a rude person who did not seem willing to help. Do not take if you struggle with calc.
Bishal is overall a nice guy. The work wasn't hard, and I could see the value in the coursework. He does have his moments where he might expect you to know more than you actually do or go a bit fast sometimes, but overall, I'd recommend him to any students considering.
I'm not good at math, but Prof Dhakal made it easy to understand. The class runs on ALEKS, and it could be challenging IF you don't do what he says. He will try to help you as much as possible as long as you put in the effort. But, for the most part, this class was very manageable. I would recommend him! The negative post below is not true at all.
Dr. Dhakal cares about your success in his class. If you ever need help, he is always willing to help you. The online site WebAssign we used in his class helped the class be less hard and stressful. I am not a math person; I still thought the class was all right. If you are not taking the notes from slides, no problem; he will publish it anyway.
It is all through ALEKS while attendance is mandatory. Topics barely take an entire class and threatens to take points if you are not on Aleks, even if you have completed the topic goal.
I highly recommend this Professor. His lectures are great. He is accessible and very helpful.
Great teacher. Very helpful, respected, and cheerful. I am not good at math. He is helping me as much as he can in such a big class to complete the weekly topics and understand the math concepts.
If you are okay with a professor with a lack of empathy and organization, I recommend him. If you are able to self teach yourself, then I also recommend him.
Professor Dhakal is a helpful and available but not easy professor. He doesn't want you to fail. He expects you to work hard as you should in a math class, and he will test your knowledge rigorously. He is smart and knows math. He gives good feedback, and he is fair.
He was a horrible professor who was no help. He constantly got material wrong in class and was no help outside of it. Get ready to spend your whole semester in the tutoring center because you won't learn here. Do not take him for your own sake.
I don't recommend taking his online class; he's very strict. You're not allowed to use calculators, and if there's any noise or sudden movements, you are automatically assumed to be cheating. This guy is weird; don't take his class.
This professor is this worst no sympathy will fail you no matter what seen mostly everyone says the same thing I am willing to make a group chat about this class to get a grade appeal please feel free to reach out to me
Please do not take this professor; his requirements are strict. I am currently in the process of a grade appeal because I didn't show my hands during the test. I made sure to complete the 360 video check and emailed him prior to the test, but I received no response. Honestly, this guy is not a professor.
Do not take this class. This teacher is very strict on test requirements and the videos that he offers won't help you at all and don't even come from him. He is also aggressive
just dont stay away
like everyone is saying, ignore this guy if you can
This was one of the worst classes of my life. I cried everyday.
I almost considered switching my major because of this guy
just don't take this professor
I am taking MAT 265 online. Without a doubt, Prof. Dhakal is the best professor. For such an online class, he has posted all the instructional videos and always posts clear announcements - what's more needed! The test expectations are strict but already outlined in the syllabus. I followed them, and I never got in trouble. I am aiming for A+.
Lmao the person underneath me is definitely Bishal
Professor Dhaka is not a very effective lecturer. He has a thick accent, making it difficult to understand him most of the time. When I raised my hand to ask him a question, he often didn't provide a clear answer and would simply say, "Look at the module notes." The modules aren't even his, so I'm not sure he knows what he's talking about.
Do not take this class if you cannot teach yourself the lessons. He explains everything as if we already know how to do it and does not answer any questions correctly. Avoid this professor if you can.
Don't take him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have to teach yourself everything. When you ask him a question, it doesn't get answered. I have never failed any class in college (im a junior) till this class and have taken stats.
Math117 was pretty good with this teacher. I didn't have any trouble and I liked this class.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Save your sanity. You teach everything to yourself, everything is on Aleks (online) and the only people who help you are your TA's. You can ask him a question but he will not answer it fully.
This is the worst professor I've ever had in my life I never wore a seatbelt to class so I wouldn't make it to his lectures one day
I am not a math person. The course I took with him is in ALEKS. It was mostly self-paced, but his clear guidance helped me succeed. I liked Professor Bishal. He is very considerate. This is the only math class I need to take for my major; otherwise, I wish I could take more courses with him. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Don't listen to the person below me
Class is very test heavy. Quizzes and exams are way more difficult than homework questions. Be prepared to learn the entire class on your own. Spent so much time studying just for the tests to be completely different questions then examples in class.
I got an A+ in MAT210. Yeee!! I did it. I am proud of myself. Bishal is a great professor. His organized materials, clear feedback, and constant motivation are factors in my success, too. Thank you!! I wish I could take more Math courses with him (He is not teaching MAT211 next semester, sad!) - highly recommended professor at ASU.
Beware of the 5.0 reviews—they seem suspiciously written by the professor himself. Unfortunately, he's one of the worst teachers I've ever had. His teaching style is ineffective, and his thick accent makes understanding lectures very difficult. I wouldn't recommend this class.
How awful do you have to write fake reviews to improve your image. He is mean, frequently gets mad at his students, and creates a very uncomfortable learning environment. His thick accent makes it hard to follow lectures, and his teaching style is ineffective. I wouldn't take his class. I've reported him to the Dean for anger issues.
Professor Dhakal fails to provide meaningful interaction and actual teaching, relying heavily on his TA's to manage the course who take on roles of unnecessary authority rather than genuine support, caring more about students on their phone and whether or not they're in an assigned seat than if they're struggling in the class. -100/10 DON'T TAKE
He was pretty rude. He didn't help at all, and the entire course was online. You can just take the course online. Attendance is mandatory under all circumstances he does not care even if you have a doctor's note. I broke a bone, and to go to the hospital, but he did not care. Just dont.
Relied heavily on TA's... These TA's seemed to care more about intimidating students to get off their phones, and did not explain well at all. Attendance taken seemed almost petty, since this class genuinely did not need to be done in person what so ever. Please find a different teacher.
Bad way to run the class. Doesn't teach. Doesn't have waterfall effect on final exam
I spent hours at the tutor every week to try and learn the content since Dhakal was so bad at teaching it. The class is very exam heavy and he refuses to curve any grades. Study guides are very different than the exams. His homework problems were way easier then quiz problems making it very hard to get a good grade on quizzes.
Personally had no issues with Prof. Dhakal, but he does have a very thick accent and is not great at explaining or teaching anything. I would try and find a better professor, especially if you struggle with math.
Just dont take his class
I took this class with him last Fall. I was regular in class. I took all the quizzes and the exams. I had no issues with his lectures and class. It was smooth and well organized. In my opinion - he is an amazing teacher.
Amazing Professor! Really cares about his students.
Even though I got a C in the class I wouldn't take it with any other professor. I am NOT good at math but still managed to pass. All test questions are pulled from the homework and the practice tests and it made life so much easier. Do the practice tests really well and you'll be fine.
Bishal gives you a lot of credit back on quizzes if you go to the office hours and show that you are working. He is such a nice guy and always willing to help. He does have an accent and is sometimes hard to understand but you get used to it. I enjoyed his class. TAKE HIM!
Worst class I've ever had. Tests are harder than homework and take up 75% of your grade.
I would not recommend taking him as an online professor. He was not very accessible and he never reached out or offered assistance to students. He was very harsh on the online proctored tests and the tests were often much harder than the HW material. The final is worth 40% of your grade and the other 3 tests are worth an additional 45%.
He runs this class terribly. He screams into the mic while doing math problems that no one else is following. The math program here seriously needs to be updated it is all online but yet you have to show up to every class and the fail rate for MAT 117 is RIDICULOUS!!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! DO NOT LISTEN TO THE GOOD REVIEWS HE PROBABLY WROTE THEM HIMSELF TO MAKE HIM LOOK GOOD
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE MATH WITH HIM. MY GPA IS NOW RUINED SO PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID.
Lmao I'm glad people are realizing how bad he is
Leave it to ASU who hires a professor who can't do their job
I took his class online. Grades his tests entirely on the answers so he does not account for partial credit. But if you don't upload your work, you get a zero on the test. Mind you, his tests are very strictly proctored through Honorlock. I understand Calc 2 is a weeder course, but it makes no sense to run a math class this way.
*in-person* this prof gives tons of resources and is very accessible via E-mail and office hours. Uploads notes from lecture. Exams are worth 75% of grade including final. Does weekly quizzes but they are take home and collaborative. Lots of announcements on canvas. *Calc 2 is hard* but if you go to his OH its worth! U might get some credit back.
The online course for MAT266 has very old lectures that do not properly prepare you for the problems you are expected to do. The 4 tests you take are work 75% of the entire grade and are pretty brutal. If you take this class prepare to dedicate all your time to it if you want to pass.
Probably one of the worst professors I've had so far math is already a hard subject, and he really doesn't make it any easier. His lectures are kind of all over the place and doesn't clearly state what's going on in more difficult math like 210 . Honestly, if I took the class again, I would just show up for attendance and leave and study on my own.
i'm not going to get into the details but this guy basically ruined my life. do not take him or you will regret it.
Probably the worst professor at ASU. Do not take him.
I am so grateful that this course is almost over. This has been the worst class I have ever taken– not because of the material, but the professor. He doesn't care about his students at all. Finding time to meet with him was difficult, and he was also challenging to work with. The course itself is bearable, but find a different professor for it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. The teacher does not care at all about you. You will study for HOURS on end to end up failing her tests. The only "good" thing about her course is that if you complete homework assignments 24 hours before they're due, you get a little bit of extra credit. Safe yourself the crash outs and don't take it!
me and all my homies hate bishal
DONT TAKE.
I always purposely Misspell his name through the email because he gets pissed lmfao
If you choose to take a class with this professor, expect to either fail or withdraw from it.
Probably the worst teacher at ASU hands down. Lectures were extremely boring, and the professor would go on long rambles about nothing, and very difficult to understand. The take-home quizzes were terrible. Do not take him at all. And he writes his own reviews.
I hope he goes to hell
The ratings do not do him justice. I cannot physically write a review to explain how bad of a professor he is. He is worse than everything you could possible conceive about a bad professor. Lectures are pointless, you are better off teaching yourself. Little to no partial credit, questions are incomprehensible, makes tons of mistakes in lectures.
imo the ratings are pretty severe. He isn't an incredibly great teacher, and in my experience, you'd be better off learning independently. However, he means well and provides decent office hours. The online quizzes are easy and the amount of homework is very manageable.
I've never written a review like this before, but I feel obligated to warn others. Taking a course with this professor was not just difficult, it was demoralizing. The lectures were unclear, disorganized, and often irrelevant to the material tested. This class damaged my GPA, my confidence, and my mental health. Avoid at all possible seriously.
His lectures are not worth attending all he does is go over 4-5 questions for one topic and that's it no explanation they are from the resources that are already on the asu math website barely any effort in class his grading on quizzes and test don't make sense you'll have to fight for your marks watch organic chem tutor you're better off
Do not take any classes with this professor. Seriously the worst college class experience of my life. This professor has given me more mental breakdowns in the last month than I've had my whole life. If there's anything I can say to anyone, do not take this class you will regret it.
This professor does not care about his students. He gives students zeros on every exam, claiming they didn't follow his online testing criteria. Even if this is the only professor whose class is open (for a reason, too), just wait until next semester to take it. Not worth it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He literally ruined my life. 0/10 would recommend.
This professor will ruin more than just your GPA. He took so much from me: my confidence, sanity, and happiness. Seriously. This has been the worst college experience. I am trying to warn you. Even if his class is the only one open (like mine was), wait to take it. If you decide against this, good luck soldier.
worst professor at asu don't take him
This professor made me lose my sanity. I cried every single day. Listen to the rest of the reviews and save yourself from him.
Worst professor at ASU. The only reason I got a B was because I taught myself everything. He doesn't teach or care about his students. Take someone else's course.
I am surprised he is still employed as a teacher. ASU needs to reevaluate their choices and fire him.
AWFUL PROFESSOR. Take anyone else. He will ruin you.
I can't even put into words how awful he was. I also can't believe he is still teaching. Dude should've chosen a different profession from the start.
Worst professor ever. If you are choosing your schedule, pick a different professor.
AWFULLLLLL professor. Don't take him.
I liked Bishal's teaching style. I am not good at math. However, he provided enough materials for me to pass the class. I thank him for this!
The review below me is a phony
Such a bad professor! All of the good reviews have been written by him. Don't be like me and read all the negative ones and think "eh I think I can handle him" no. you cannot. I thought the same thing and he ruined my academic career.
don't take his class
Don't take this professor. He is extremely strict and not understanding at all. It's almost like he wants to piss you off and acts this way with huge purpose. This was my last resort class so I had to have him, but I do NOT recommend.
Class was hard, but if you follow his guidelines you will pass.
This professor does not care about his students AT ALL. He wants to do the least work possible (doesn't teach his own class, doesn't grade his own papers, is unhelpful during office hours, etc.) while we work super hard in his class as students.
Take a different professor he is so bad
Unfortunately I did not like this class or professor. I would take it with someone else next time.
Plz dont take him; he genuinely terrible
He's accessible, but there's no point in talking to him because he doesn't care to help you with any questions you may have. He shows videos of a different professor teaching her class. He literally doesn't teach the online class. I had to teach myself the materials. Do not take his class.
He doesn't care about his students. Take this with a different professor.
BAD BAD BAD NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!
If you are taking this professor and don't have a religion, get one and start praying.
This man makes me wanna stay at my restaurant job. I've never taken a class harder than his gotten no help and felt as though life had no meaning until I took his class. I normally dont rate my professors but I wanted to save others from what I went thru. He added a year onto my ASU stay.
This professor is not an accesible type of guy, he quit literally kicked me out of class before an exam STARTED because i asked a question regarding an assignment i had to turn in to do the exam. Like hello?? i needed help :(((
no. run away.
Everyone is trying to scare you here. He is not that bad and even though he let's you know about quizzes day of class they still aren't hard if you pay attention. Also the material is not that hard, go to class. Everything builds off each other.
Not a bad prof at all. All exams come with practice exams that are pretty much identical to the one you'll take in class, perfect those and you'll be good. Attendance quizzes posted generally towards the end of class, sometimes earlier. Most classes will either have a quiz or a group work in the last 15-20 min. Take them seriously, they add up.
Because the class is on ALEKS, the professor does not really teach as everything is at your own pace. I was better off asking the IAs for help, as I had one who really helped me. Attendance is 5% of your grade, so you kind of have to show up, but in reality, there is no point in going to class, as you can do what you do in class in your dorm room.
Class isn't as bad as everyone says it is honestly. Completely online and it's lowkey a lot of busy work but the stuff you are learning is super easy. The practice tests are the exact same as the exams and the practice finals are the exact same as the final. Also gives partial credit where possible and will bump you up a grade too. Great prof
He is the best, attendance is not mandatory and a lot of extra credit and bounuces the tests are heavt but easy
