Dr.V is great! She has an accent, but it does not really interfere with learning the material. She is always willing to answer any questions you have on the material and is super helpful!
Her class is SO BORING. I dreaded going, her accent is thick so it can be hard to understand her at times. Her tests aren't terrible but the averages are about 75s. I self taught 95% of the material.
Dr.V has a very thick accent which makes it hard to understand sometimes, but she is very helpful especially if you go to her office hours. She really wants all of her students to succeed. All of the questions on tests are based only on information covered during lecture, so the book is not needed. You need to study in order to get a good grade!
I love Dr. V!! She really pushes you to do well in lab and even though her grading is tough she just wants you to use all of your knowledge and be as specific as possible. She will work with you as much as you need her to for as long as you need her to until you understand the material. She is the sweetest woman and I would recommend her to anyone!
Dr. V is an awesome teacher. She has a strong accent but you get used to it quickly. She make anatomy pretty cut and dry! Tests are not that hard in Lecture
Dr. V's lectures feel like they take an eternity and can be hard to pay attention to. However she tries really hard and will help you if you ask for it. Her exams are pretty easy, I consistently get B's on them with little preparation.
Most disorganized course I have ever experienced. I think she may have designed the classes an hour before they were held. Helpful if you ask, but keeping up with everything is an impossibility, at least for students with a linear mindset.
Dr. V is very knowledgeable, passionate, kind, and understanding! I loved taking her class even though I had to work very hard for my grade. She is a little disorganized, and sometimes hard to understand, but if you are willing to put in the time and are interested in the subject you will do well.
Dr. V was very helpful... when she wanted to be. There were days were she made us feel stupid but other days that she did everything she could to get us to understand better. She is very funny and tries to relate what you learn to real life experiences!
Anatomy lab is tedious because it meets twice a week, but Dr. V is passionate and interesting. She is always willing to help out and if you have a question, she will work with you until you understand it.
She is very hard to understand and moves at the speed of light. Says you'll cover in lab during lecture so take lab with her as well. Her tests are fairly easy but she is not compassionate towards her students. Took off ten points for bubbling my number wrong on a test. Will have clicker questions on almost every lecture.
Dr. V means well but her accent does get in the way of understanding things. She often confuses terms and writes incorrect things on her powerpoints. This class is very hard, I went to her office hours often. If you are not doing very will, she gets agitated when you ask her questions because she's annoyed that you don't know the concept.
If you have a lot of patience then go for it but i would stay away. She sucks as a lecturer and she's hard to understand. Expects the world from you and doesn't seem to understand anatomy isn't your life and you aren't an expert. Tests are easy though
Dr. V was one of my favorite professors. I was lucky enough to have her for both lab and lecture which gave me a chance to know her better. In lecture she is sometimes a little dry but she really has a great sense of humor and really cares about how her students do. She does expect a lot though so you must be ready to work.
I had Dr.V for lab and I really liked her. In this class you get out what you put into it, so if you work hard in lab and ask her questions she will teach you a lot, but if you don't engage in your own learning she won't be as helpful. This class is very difficult, but if you give it all your effort Dr.V will care a lot about helping you succeed
You have to go to her lab or she will find out and call you out on skipping. She can come off as intimidating and at times her accent is hard to understand but if you ask her any questions she works with you until she knows you understand it. She made a point to tell me how proud she was at my improving scores, she wants her students to succeed
I had Dr. V for lab and tests were very difficult, but clear from the lab manual and she didn't give trick questions. It's a lot of information to study but doable. She is very approachable and always answers questions.
Anatomy is a hard class but she is a pretty good teacher. She has a notebook to go along with her lectures that is helpful and has clicker questions throughout her lectures. Going to lecture helped a lot but you need to be prepared to put in a lot of time outside of class to be successful.
Dr. V is okay! She's really not as bad as somepeople make her out to be. Anatomy is hard but I never felt like her exams were impossible. You have to study for this course with any professor you take, and I think her exams are more straight forward so thats a big plus for her. People say her accent is bad, but I never had problems understanding her
Don't listen to other people, Dr. V is awesome! If she see's that you are trying she will be so helpful. Show up to lab prepared and ready to learn and you will be on her good side. Anatomy is so hard no matter who you take it with, but her lab exams were never impossible. Individual/ group quizzes were annoying but not worth much grade wise
Just pay attention. If you listen to everything she says and actually try to understand it during class, you'll do fine. But this class does require that you pay attention the ENTIRE time, or else you will get very lost. Read the lab manual before class if you have that. Tests are NOT bad if you actually follow along during class
Anatomy is a tough class no matter your professor, but she is a solid choice. My recommendation is to go see your exam after and take note of what you got wrong. The final is cumulative and many of the questions were the trickier ones from previous exams
Dr. V is so passionate about Anatomy and biology in general. She cares a lot about your learning, and if you ask her questions, she's eager to help you. Expect a quiz twice per unit, anything in the lab manual is fair game. Quizzes are 5 questions by yourself 5 with group. She's approachable and overall a great professor! (I had her for lab)
Dr. V really loves anatomy and I appreciated that aspect about her. One thing that was annoying was the fact that she expected you to come to class with everything already known from the lecture the day before. This is literally impossible, which sometimes made class difficult. Overall she's a really nice lady and is always willing to help.
Dr. V is tough, but she is an excellent teacher. She'll spend as much time as you need to help you understand, and makes herself available outside of class. You'll learn so much from her.
She is really easy to get along with. If you don't understand something, she will make it her priority to make sure that you understand.
Dr. V is incredibly intelligent and knows what she's talking about, but her lecture style is a little difficult to understand. She also has a pretty thick Indian accent (which isn't a bad thing- I have a heavy Spanish accent) which can make lectures difficult to follow along to.
Anatomy is a hard class to begin with. Dr. V really wants people to understand and she is very nice. If you think she is going to fast just so talk to her in office hours. I RECOMMEND TAKING HER! Her test are pretty straight forward if you pay attention and take notes.
Dr. V wasnt the best but i heard she was better than the other professor... her lecture book is kinda pointless.. all the info you need basically comes from your lab manual
She is a very difficult professor. She doesn't make an effort to adjust her methods for her students. She can be extremely unclear during lecture, and is not welcoming during office hours. She comes across as very judgmental. She makes class much more difficult than it should be and doesn't line powerpoints with the coursepack.
Took this class again and I have to say it was definitely easier than before. However, while she is approachable and eager to help, it can be boring especially if its a 4-hour summer class that starts at 8AM. Overall, good person.
If you have a learning disability AVOID, or do not tell her. She was really demeaning and disrespectful to me all semester, all 3 lab rotations agreed she singled me out despite my efforts to avoid her during class. Never had a professor treat me like this for giving them my ODS letter simply stating I get extra time and scratch paper on exams.
Although Anatomy is a lot of work, I loved Professor Velayudhan! She is so so sweet, approachable and caring. Her lecture tests are very reasonable. Be prepared to put in a lot of time and effort but if you do that you will be fine! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!:)
Professor Velayudhan is amazing! Anatomy is a hard class but if you go to lab she will help you with anything. She would answer my questions one on one and give me in depth and helpful explanations. She is very caring and wants every student to succeed. I have an A- now in the class and did well on the exams, she prepares you so well!
Love her so much. Tough grader but she cares about you actually learning the material. Very good professor, you just have to put in the effort for the class and be genuinely interested in it.
after reading some of these reviews, i dont see how some people like her teaching/class. a lot of times she seems very cold and unwelcoming to questions. its a class that you have to really try hard in, and if you get lost during lecture, you might almost be better off just leaving. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF ITS STILL ONLINE.
I finally understand anatomy better since taking Dr.V. Her lectures are straight to the point and she is completely willing to help you any way she can. She is great at her job and it's not hard to follow along in her class
First off, anatomy is a very hard class due to lots of memorization of the body overall and conceptually understanding how human body parts work. Understanding the overall and big picture is key to doing well in this class. Dr. Velayudhan is a great professor because she is very clear in her lectures and is very helpful during her office hours.
Dr. V is amazing! I had her for lecture this semester (100% online) and would recommend taking her class for anatomy. She posts the lecture slides at the beginning of the week and then usually holds synchronous lecture for them. I would recommend writing down the slides or printing them out prior to lecture to be more prepared for class.
I loved having Dr. V for anatomy!! Having anatomy online really is not that bad, you just need to show up for lectures and stay on top of things! Dr. V. posts all the powerpoints before lecture and she is always willing to repeat/clarify things. Definitely utilize all of the practice quizzes and her office hours.
Dr. V is really caring and wants students to do well. I appreciated that she kept asking if there was anything she could improve on and how she did make changes when people spoke up. Anatomy is difficult but she helped lead me to an A.
Anatomy is a hard class, but Dr. V is more than willing to help. If you keep up with the material and try to go to office hours, she will make sure you understand the content to the best of her ability.
Anatomy is one of the hardest courses I've taken, but Dr. V is more than willing to help. If you keep up with the material and go to her office hours she does the best she can to make sure you succeed.
Dr. V is a good professor. She gives small quizzes during lecture for credit so you have to be paying attention. Theres a HW assignment and a quiz for each unit. I would suggest paying attention in class. Her exams are worded weirdly but shes a very nice person. Lectures go by quickly bc she skips over things.
I had Dr. V for anatomy lectureshe's definitely the better of two options this semester. If she continues posting her lecture slides, print a copy before class. Try to stay focused and take detailed notes because she tends to talk very quickly. Grade is based on homework assignments and quizzes for each unit, 4 unit tests, and cumulative final.
Take her! Shes the best lecturer out of the anatomy instructors. I know some of my friends who took Dr. Walker and told me that they wished they were able to take her instead. She truly cares about her students. Take her if you can.
Dr.V cares so much about her students and understands how difficult anatomy is. Sometimes she is hard to understand if she is going fast during lecture, but she makes it clear that if you dont understand something you can ask. She is very sweet and tries really hard to make these concepts make sense! You have to study!!!!!!
Dr. V is SO helpful in class! As long as you come into lab prepared for the week, you will do fine in her class. Don't be afraid to ask questions and do expect to learn how to teach yourself. Highly recommend taking Dr. V if you can! She's so sweet and truly does care about her students.
Dr. V is by far the best choice to take for the anatomy lecture portion of this course. She really engages with her students and is very approachable. If you think you can get by in this class with an average grade without studying, good luck. This course is challenging no matter who you take but take her if you can!
Dr.V honestly is a solid choice for anatomy. Lecture exams were the same as all other professors, so doesn't really matter who you get tbh. Anatomy is a difficult course, BUT not that bad, and this is coming from someone who did not study for hours upon hours and still got a good grade. Honestly, just give it your all and you will see results.
Dr. V is a really good choice for physiology lab, and is super accessible during class. Sometimes it is hard to understand her as she has an accent but she'll clarify things for you. She's really nice and wants you to do well, it's just a really hard class.
Dr. V is extremely knowledgable and a great professor. She can be difficult to understand sometimes because she has a thick accent, but it isn't bad. She'll answer any questions you have. I think she can be a little bit of a harsh grader on assignments but it's not bad. She's a good option so take her if you get the chance.
If you take her for BIO 270 lab, just know it DOES NOT matter who you take! They all use the same answer key and grade harshly. She can be sweet and very rude (her "tough love"). She knows it too. She is one of those instructors who want you to figure it out yourself. Just be aware of this!
I've had Dr. V for 290 lecture and now 270 lab. She's very knowledgeable and caring but is an extremely tough grader. With that said, Dr. V is open to communication, so if you ever have any questions about the labs or grading, don't hesitate to shoot her an email. 270 lab is just a pain in general but she makes it fun.
Physiology lab is definitely hard, but if I had to take it again I'd take her. Very caring and has a good demeaner especially cuz she understands that her students aren't perfect nor does she expect them to be
Dr. V is one of the better options for anatomy. Obviosuly it is a tough course and there isn't really anything she can do about that, but she tried to simplify things and was always accessible for help if you need it. She did have pop quizzes, but they were graded on participation and helped my grade go up a couple points.
You have to study for Prof V. She is so nice and she really cares about students but the tests are very hard. You have to be very meticulous about studying and go over everything from every unit. Be prepared to sacrifice free time and if you have fomo well figure it out I guess, esp if you wanna get in the Nursing program.
Anatomy in general is a hard class, be prepared to study a lot. Her accent was on the stronger side which made it more difficult to learn simply because lots of terminologies are new. The tests usually consisted of true or false, 3-4 answer multiple choice. She does not round so if you get a 69.99% rough for you, I honestly learned more in lab.
Dr. V was alright. She has an accent, which at times can be hard to understand. Her homework assignments were graded way too hard b/c a lot of times it was hard to understand what was being asked. Tests were much more conceptual compared to what she was teaching off the PPT. Definitely study out of the lab manual more, info is MUCH more important.
Dr. V is passionate and wants to help. When I went in for office hours to ask questions she was kind of rude and made me feel dumb, but that's just her. The class is not bad and it's easy to follow. I was intimidated but studied a few hours for the final and got an A, but I'm also interested in it. Go to PASS sessions and study and you'll be fine.
Dr. V is great, but as with any anatomy course this class requires a lot of work and outside studying to do well. She is very welcoming in her office hours if you need any help or have questions. Would recommend taking her!
Very good professor for anatomy. Didn't talk too fast and was easy to understand accent after a few classes. Accesible outside of class and did review sessions to help. Studied a lot from lab manual, not the binder at all.
She's very nice if you make yourself known in the class, sometimes she's a bit judgey but whatever she's not mean. Bio L itself kinda sucks because of practicals but she gives a practice exam that is IDENTICAL to the actual exam, so if you're confused definitely ask her for help and you should be fine. She's a tough grader on lab assignments though
The material is A LOT and very deep. The low ratings are probably people not doing their job as students. But, professor V DOES her job as a professor. I have spent countless hours studying reflecting my grade. This is a class that is very challenging but not impossible if you put the work in. She is the best to take for this course. I love her!
Do not take this professor. I thought she was nice at first, but then had a conversation with her in person, and is one of the rudest professors ever. Talks down to you like she is way above you and clearly does not care about the students' well being. Try to take anyone else.
This is a hard class! Dr. V does a great job of giving lectures quickly enough so that we get through the lengthy material. There are 4 exams and a final. My semester, Dr. V had better student averages than the other Anatomy professor at that time. I definitely recommend. She cares about her students' success!!
Bio 290 is a very hard course but Dr. V was absolutely amazing. I had her for lab and lecture and she was one of the best professors I've had a JMU. You definitely have to put in a lot of work for this class and if you do, your grade will reflect that. Shes accessible outside of class and absolutely amazing
DO NOT TAKE. Omg I wish I didn't take this course. Exams were unbelievably hard, and she doesn't explain concepts. She was rude outside of class, everything is group-work, and she does not curve the exams even when everyone fails! Please take a different elective. The only saving grace is if your capstone group is good because you can share notes.
Good anatomy professor, there isn't many grade so have to do good on exams. She has a lot of lecture slides that aren't needed but overall she is very nice and just wants you to do good
Dr. V is by far one of my favorite professors at JMU. She cares deeply about her students and is so passionate about what she does. Very accessible outside of class. Take her if you can.
Dr. V is one of the best professors that JMU has. I absolutely love her and she is so helpful and really good at explaining things in lab. 10/10
So I do a lot of work for this class, both inside and outside of school. I tutor, I run study groups, and I spend hours reviewing the material myself. No amount of work has prepared me for her exams properly. Her slides are poorly formatted, and the lectures are sporadic and messy, simply not allowing me to excel in this course. Do not recommend it
I loved Dr. V. She is very sweet and entertaining in lecture. I would go to class because her slide shows are a little vague. Her tests are all multiple choice and aren't too bad if you know how to study. This is a class where you need to use all of your resources to do well, but there are many different ways to get help.
Very challenging course no matter who you take. So much studying and effort. GO TO CLASS AND LISTEN!!! I would go to class but not listen and it affected my grade, until I actually started listening and taking good notes and it helped so much more. 3 exams and 1 final. Cage was my anatomy lab professor and I 100000%%% recommend him, trust me.
Dr.V is a great professor, anatomy is still a very heavy class so be prepared to feel overwhelmed all semester. Dr.V provides all the materials necessary to be successful through slides, in-class notes, and the lab manual.
I took this professor, because she had so many good reviews, but I wish I could go back and choose someone else. I never rate professors, but I really didn't like her class. Besides being boring, her lectures were disorganized, overly long, and poorly formatted. Her accent also made it hard to understand parts of her lectures. Take someone else!
I thought Dr. V was a great professor. Anatomy is challenging and consists of a lot of material, but she organizes and explains it well. She does go through material very fast, which can be difficult, but preparing and taking notes before lectures are helpful. There are a lot of in class quizzes, lecture quizzes, and exams to help with your grade.
Dr. V was great! Lecture slides were organized by unit but don't contain all the content, so you really have to pay attention and take notes on what she says. Very test heavy but also had in class quizzes graded by participation and had study quizzes that you could take as many times as you need. Overall a very hard class but she explains it well.
Anatomy is a very hard class and Dr. V tries her best to make it manageable. Her lectures are very performative and easy to follow and she stays on topic. Your grade is 4 exams, the final, unit quizzes, and pop quizzes every few classes. If you go to class, pay attention, and figure out how to study, it will be ok. Also a very sweet and fun lady.
Anatomy is hard no matter what professor you take, but Dr. V took her time going over slides and had no problem going back if you had a question
Anatomy is a hard class and it will probably take over your life for the semester. With that being said, Professor V answered all my questions and even told me that I could do better after my first exam. I got an A in the class, which was extremely hard to do but if you put in the work and study really hard then I believe in you. GO TO PASS!
Dr. V genuinely cares that her students are successful and is a very good professor. She knows what she is talking about and offers tips to help us learn concepts. This is a difficult class and requires hours upon hours of studying regardless of the professor.
Dr V is nice, but her slides have minimal information on them and she will speed through explanations, so you have to mostly learn on your own. She doesn't curve anything or drop anything, the final replaces your lowest grade which is cumulative. She has no assignments and a few quizzes so your grade is basically your test scores. Take Killkenny.
Professor V is a sweet lady and can explain anatomy very well but does rush through her lectures and does not have the greatest pacing she will take her time and explain things very well in the beginning of lecture and then speed up her pace and skim through the just as important material.
I had Dr. V for lecture and lab. Se was very invested in her students doing well, but I would highly recommend doing a lot of outside studying, honestly I learned the most by going to PASS and spending ample time outside of class studying. A good grade in this class is attainable if you put the work in.
She is a nice professor and knows what she is talking about. She goes over the lecture material very quickly, so be sure to pay attention. The material is an overload, and it's tricky to know exactly what was covered on the exams. They were tough exams as well. I would not take this course with other intense courses.
Dr. V isn't a bad choice for an anatomy professor. The content is very difficult no matter the professor, but if you show up to class and genuinely pay attention then she makes the content manageable.
Dr. V is a very good choice for an anatomy professor! She explains things well and I find that her exams were easier than the other section of anatomy because her questions are less specific. Anatomy is a hard class in general, so you have to put in the work outside of class to do well. But, Dr. V was very nice!
These 290 exams are no joke. Need to come to class to get the content, although its not graded. Not a lot goes into the gradebook and those quizzes dont mean much overall. She has some humor but it's a pretty dry class if you don't preview the slides and know what she is talking about.
Dr. is a good option for anatomy lab. She was always there to help if you had questions (so come to each class with plenty) and helped in identification on the cadavers. She's great and a very good resource in learning anatomy!
Dr. V is a great teacher, she is passionate about what she teaches and makes the material interesting to learn. She breaks down hard concepts for students to understand. Only downside is she has an accent that makes it hard to understand sometimes. Would recommend to take her class.
Anatomy is hard within itself, but Dr. V knows how to simplify it. I had very meaningful conversations with her, and she just wants us to succeed. Her practicals were very difficult, but if you used the resources she gave you, you will do fine. TALK TO HER! She's so kind!
