she's nice, but we have tests every friday, and someones we have pop quizzes. he have homework assigned every class day and then they are all due that following monday. does a lot of examples which is helpful and tells you about tutoring a lot just to make sure that you succeed.
Ms. B is a great teacher. She is really into helping her students and she really does care if we do bad/good. We have HW everyday and its due the followin monday, quizzes every friday, 2 "mid terms" and i belive a final. The quizzes and HW are all helpful b/c they pertain to the TESTS. Great help. She might seem mean @ 1st vbut shes really cool!
Bita is great. She's very helpful and willing to take feedback from her students. Though she teaches quite quickly, you are able to catch up especially with the weekly quizzes which are super helpful and it gives your grades a boost. Attendance is a part of your grade and if you miss a lot, she'll notice.
The class is very straightforward and not to mention, too easy. All you do is turn in hw, do the weekly quizzes and you'll land yourself with a passing grade. Bita grants alot of time to her students during office hours, so there's no need to be shy when asking for help, its served on a silve platter. The material is very obvious anyway

The class moves really slow but overall its a great high school refresher with the potentional to interest people in math again. I enjoyed the class because I didn't think it was possible to learn anything new about algebra - and in the end I did. This is a class where you can't just 'plug and chug' you gotta seriously think.
Bita is awesome. She can go through the material a bit too fast, but she catches herself most of the time and asks the class if everyone understands. She is very passionate and tries to make the concepts easy to understand. She doesn't like tardiness, especially on fridays (the quizzes). oh yeah do the homework! It is a big part of your grade.
Bita is one of those teachers that will work hard for everyone to understand. I don't know any teacher who would put in 2 office hours for a super review before the final. Awesome teacher. Wished she taught math 109
Bita is an extremely helpful teacher. I took MATH 70 for the second time with her and left with a clear understanding of the subject. She is friendly and genuinely cares about her students' success. Attendance is a must and weekly quizzes help boost your grade. Homework every class session but few problems are assigned. I would highly recommend her
i really do not like her at all. she does not help at all. she is confusing and her quizzes are hard. she goes too fast. i had the worst experience with her ever. i have to take precal again, and i'm good at math. she marks you off on homework so much. and wileyplus is terrible for homework. do not take her.
I have her for math109. The examples she covers are helpful. Regular hw and quizzes makes you keep up with the class. I don't like the online hw but it's the only way. She cares that you learn and show up and offers a ton of help during office hours.
She is the most dedicated, hard working math instructor I have ever had! I had taken math 109 before and it was a disaster but Bita made it all make sense and motivated me to do well.
Best math teacher at State. She's one of those teachers who would feel extremely sad if you failed her class. She really wants you to pass and it shows because she gives plenty of office hours and shows some individual attention. Only math teacher that i recommend!
I love Ms. B. She is super helpful and is very generous to your grade. You can talk to her anytime about problems you are having. Tests aren't too bad. Attendance is mandatory, she gives extra credit on days when not too many people show up. She is a wonderful teacher. TAKE HER
I hated math with such a passion before entering this class. I walked in VERY pessimistic. Bita is an amazing professor. She knows what shes doing and challenges her students to succeed and do better. Weekly quizzes/attendance is MANDATORY/ok HW load/clear/MUST take notes. I'm not walking out VERY comfortable with what she taught. TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!
***** I'm NOW walking out VERY comfortable with what she taught. TAKE HER!!!!!!!!! she will seriously dedicate her own time for the good of the students. you MUST pay attention in class in order to understand material.
Ms.B is the definition of a great teacher. She is very passionate and it shows through her teaching. Attendence is a must and quizzes every friday. 2 "midterms" and a final. she prepares you for both midterms and final.go to her office hours!! very helpful! overall, she is the best! good person at heart and one of those teachers you'll never forget
I hated math with a passion before I took this class. She is the BEST math teacher at state. She takes the class seriously which makes you take it seriously. You have to show up every class and NEVER be late! But it is worth it because when too many people don't show, you get extra credit! Take her class!! She is so smart will help you so much.
I got a decent grade in her class. but ...The first day of class she tells everyone that most people don't pass this class because its "too hard".She also had an accent so it was hard to understand her when she spoke. Whenever someone would arrive late, she would give them a death stare.she's not good at teaching. don't take the class. avoid it!
I had not taken math in a long time and found Ms. Nosratieh to be the most helpful teacher I have ever had. It is important you attend class daily and the weekly quizzes will help you keep up. If you are serious about learning, take her.
She will come off as extremely tough for the 1st few weeks to scare everyone who isn't serious away. If you can stick to it she really cares about her subject and wants students to do well if they try. She also has a pretty decent sense of humor. Great teacher. I feel that I am doing well in calc because she prepared me in precalc
I request to all students specially Please Dont take her class. She is Difficult. She have her likes and dislikes in students. She don't treat student equally. She never appriciates your efforts if she dont like you as person.Which really hurts Please If you want to learn to pass your class DONT TAKE HER CLASS PLEASE
This class should only be taken if you definitely need it, and not for credit. With that said, she understands that most of her students are planning to take Calculus classes in the future, so she does her best to make sure students understand the material. She is willing to repeat a topic, and answer questions if needed.
had her at State during the summer. she rudely googles her eyes at students & hates reviewing her lectures when her students ask her to. attendance is mandatory and she HAtES answering questions b/c she sees it as a disruption. know how to manage your hw. quizzes every friday. i wouldn't recommend her. she will confuse you & not care.
Bita is a fantastic teacher. She genuinely wants each one of her students to learn well and pass the class. I am passing with a B, and she is even giving me recommendations for teachers next semester. Take her class if you can, you won't be disappointed.
i really enjoy this class, and has to say something since its a math class. bita, really does try to make sure that people learn the subject. i dont know what the other people are talking about when they say she doesn't care or not answer questions. she really bends over backwards for her students and does a great job. id recommend her to anyone!!
As an instructor, she was ok. I've had better math teachers than her. And she wasn't very nice and kind of pompous.
Bita is a exquisite teacher! She grades fair and compensates you for your hard work. Test every Friday, one midterm, and a final. I would recommend anyone to take her class. She is very helpful during office hours and wants you to succeed! I was terrible in math and tohught I would fail the class but with her help I got an -A. DONT MISS OUT TAKE HER!
I felt that Bita was very helpful and straight forward. Her classes were always fun and the homework was like a video game.
Don't take this teacher. She goes through the subject matter very fast. She is unclear and unfair. When she asked questions and students didn't know she belittled them. Calc II is a difficult class, and we all felt that we had no support or encouragement. At least 2/3 of the students dropped or failed the class.
Don't take this teacher if you're taking early start math online. She repeatedly made several errors correcting my work and her excuse was " I'm a fast grader," which she clearly isn't, had to wait one whole day for her to correct my corrections. If you take her you'll never finish all your modules in time. Best to find another teacher!
She's rude and teaches class like a high school teacher, kicking students out for being on their phones, or calls you out. I went into this class knowing the majority of the material, but when she taught it, it was clear she didn't know what she was doing. Find another teacher, if you already have her you're SOL.
Do not choose this teacher! Her lectures are extremely confusing and she doesn't know how to teach. The quizzes and tests are impossible and she doesn't give you any study guides or anything!
Bita is not that bad. There are times were her lectures can be confusing but she always offers the extra help if you need it.
She can go too fast sometimes. If you attend class regularly she offers chances for you to improve your grade. Be prepared for weekly quizzes and daily homework.
This class was okay. It's math, so it could be hard. Definitely wouldn't want to miss a class because you'll have a hard time catching up. Hw is online. Quiz almost every Friday. 2 midterms and a final. She likes to call on people, so be prepared.
Her quizzes are straight from the Webassign but the tests she makes her own questions and is definitely a lot harder. She doesn't curve and there is homework every night. Not very lenient on grades.
DO NOT take this teacher! I took her last semester and failed, and now I am taking the same class over and I have an A. Her lectures made no sense at all and the homework was impossible!
I thoroughly enjoyed her teaching my calculus class! The subject material was very difficult, but her lectures were clear and examples were easy to follow. Do your homework every week, study for the quizzes every week, and 2 major exams. Also, if you don't understand something, go to her office hours! Very helpful and friendly.
Hard class, but very helpful. Has extra credit sometimes. Has a sign in sheet, but you're allowed to miss up to 2 times per grading period...although that's not a good idea considering it's calculus. She'll go over good examples in class and anything in office hours. She wants you to pass as much as you do, just put in the extra bit of work!
She's nice but hard. Acts like every bit of help she gives is a gift and says you shouldn't expect more. There are office hours. Book only used for examples in class. Online homework that would mark correct answers wrong because it was in a different format (like fraction vs decimal), so many points lost. Online quizzes weekly & 3 in-class tests.
most obscured. she definitely knows her math but she is a HORRIBLE teacher...she's quite famous at our campus for being notoriously hard to pass, partially due to her moving way, way too fast. Be prepared to teach yourself from page 1. Additionally, unless you have a death certificate or something she will not let you withdraw from her classes.
Bita cares about her students and is absolutely amazing. You gotta work for that A. Go to her office hours; she's extremely helpful and understanding.
In all my 19 years of life on this Milky Way galaxy, Bita has been the worst teacher I've ever had. During class, if you blink, she would have gone through 4 chapters of material. She expects that you already have a know ALL of the material. There's barely any explanation. The hW on WebAssign is so loosely explained during lectures.DONT TAKE IT!!!!
I expected Nosratieh to be an extremely horrible teacher based on the reviews I read online, but she really isn't bad. She gives a warning the first day of class about how the class is a fast paced class, which IT IS. GET OVER IT, IT'S COLLEGE. You SHOULD have some Calculus knowledge beforehand though. It will make the class so much easier.
4 Exams, lowest one is dropped. WebAssign is used for homework. Tip: Don't buy a textbook since you have to buy WebAssign for the homework. When you buy it, you get the textbook along with it. Cumulative final. Expect to self-teach and learn a lot. Homework really helps. Always do the review problems before exams.
She really cares about the students in her class being prepared for calculus. I am doing well so far in calculus and she is a big reason for that. A lot of people that start this class don't make it to the end and a lot end up taking a W. Take every exam seriously. Her tests are not that hard but will test your knowledge of the subject.
AWFUL teacher. She does not show you step by step how to do the problems. She believes that students learn only by figuring out how to do it. I heard she is better office hours and she is a nice person, but horrible math teacher. She makes about 4 mistakes in her math lectures during class. Coming from an AP calc student who passed w/ a 5 in H.S.
-Tough class -Step-by-step examples during lecture -Online homework -Sometimes offers extra credit -Sign-in sheet for attendance -Provides study guides with suggested problems -2 exams and 1 cumulative final
I've had this teacher for only 3 weeks so far and boy is she something. First of all, she goes through the lectures waaaay to fast even for college standards. Secondly, she expects everyone to already know a lot of things and she seems to think that because she knows it, our previous teacher taught it to us. I regret taking this class. Wish me luck
Do not take this class. I.m not the best at math but i am definitely not the worst. she made me feel so dumb and expects you to know a lot before you enter the class. she did warn in the beginning that it is a hard class but her teaching is so fast and makes mistakes when doing example problems. worst teacher
Very nice teacher, go to class, pay attention, ask questions, and do the homework and you should be able to pass this class no problem. If you have questions, go ask her and she will help you.
She isn't loud so make sure you sit in front of the class. She is hard to understand so take as your own risk
Basically she expects you to show up in classes and do the homework. But definitely worth taking! She gives good lectures and welcomes questions. I'm taking her class for Calculus 2 next sem.
Her teaching style in Math 227 is absolute horrendous. When she does her lectures, she gives us easy examples in order to give us a sense of the problems but when we do the homework, the homework severely takes the difficulty up a notch. We are using mymathlab to the online homework and the worst part is that she doesn't enable "help me solve this"
Dont take her. Her lectures are pointless. She gives the easy examples in class, and the homework is nothing like her notes. The exams are extremely difficult. She's simply not a good teacher. Her accent is difficult to understand.
The homework is harder than class examples, but it helped me do well on the exams. so far. You better know your calculus before you take this course.
nice teacher
By far, one of the worst instructors I have come across. Totally unprofessional! She walks out of lectures if she is dissatisfied with students' understanding of her teaching, yells at students for asking questions, throws tantrums, and is completely unapproachable. She also Expected us to bring the book to class everyday.
She cares about her students but is a very tough grader and gives very tough exams. You will learn a lot in her class, but it may come at the cost of your gpa
ABSOLUTELY THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. She made the whole class feel like we were stupid for not understanding the material. Literally she said, "Class, do you not understand this problem on the board? If not, too bad you should have read this last night" AND SHE ERASED IT. I had to do Credit/No credit because I dropped out. Such a waste.
She is a very good teacher. She cares a lot about her students. But her exams are extremely hard and the grading of exams is also harsh. Limited partial credit and lots of stupid rules for grading the exam. I got the worst grade in this class ever in a math class.
She is a very nice teacher. The first couple of days she may seem very harsh and scary, but she is actually really nice. The homework is defiantly harder then in class but it is easier than the test. I had taken calculus before in high school so I had no problem. My friend had never taken calculus and didn't have much of a problem passing.
A real teacher . she wants you to really LEARN the subject . She is at perfect speed, She is serious and super smart . DO NOT just read comments here and make judgement . She is the very first teacher I saw in America that REALLY teaches the class . SHE CARES ABOUT her students and if you really do study you will get your results back !
To be honest, I learned everything from youtube, nothing from her. Hard exams comparing to what she explain in class, and she is really harsh grader. Don't take her class, you'll defintally regret it. I actually thought that Bita wouldn't be a horrible teacher after reading the comments here, but the comments let me down.
I have had the teacher teach me all three years of calculus. Calculus is a hard subject to study and if you are looking for a teacher that want to see you succeed then you need to take her. She cares about you learning and cares more then just your grade, if you put the effort you will be successful. If you just want an easy A go somewhere else.
I took Calculus with Bita over the summer. She is really intimidating at first, but really approachable during office hours. She seems really picky about showing work and how to do problems, but it pays off in the end. It was really helpful to meet with a tutor, and it's necessary to practice by yourself. All the hard work pays off.
She is nice teacher. I agree she is tough grader but she cares her students a lot. I like her class.
(very) strict class rules. Extra credit for those who show up. HW tends to scale well with in-class examples. Will explain the material in various ways for student learning. Has good range of office hours and is open to meet outside of them. She can be intimidating at first. Makes u wrk 4 grade. Hands down, one of the best math profs. at SFSU.
Average teacher with old-school teaching style. But her strict rules and the negative class vibe wore me down. It's a shame because i really liked calc i and ii.
Strict class rules about attendance, phones, etc. Exams were harder than homework problems. Her lectures were not effective at teaching me the material. I learned more from watching videos and asking my friend for help than from her.
Attendance in lectures is mandatory but office hours is better for explaining the material. To pass her class u need to go to BOTH which takes like 7 hours each week plus computer homework AND handwritten homework. i regret not taking a different prof with LECTURES that teach the material so i didn't have to go to office hours also just to pass.
you have to do the hw, the problems she gives are related to her lectures. she is very strict with tardies and exams and quizzes, if you miss you, you dont have the chance to make them up. attendance is required for those who didn't miss a single day get extra credit 2% of your whole grade. there's no late hw. her lectures are good though.
Bita is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. If you're one of those students who hated your parents or bosses telling you what to do, you won't like her. She has strict rules that ensure her classroom is a learning environment. At the end of the day, you will learn something and have a good time doing it with Bita.
Best Calc 3 teacher by far. She cares about her students and will spend time to answer just about any question you have. I didn't use the book, but others did. She may come off as authoritative initially but that changes. Mild sense of humor with some sarcasm. Fair bit of HW. Quizzes are just like practice quizzes. Great human being overall.
She is AMAZING. She is the best math teacher in SFSU. She spent lots of time to care her students. I agree that she is strict. She has lots of rules but it would be good for you because she made good environment to study in classroom.
I have taken PreCalc and Calc before in high school. I though since PreCalc was easier for me I would take it again. This woman is the most unorthodox teacher I have ever dealt with. She docked me completely quizzes, tests, and HW because I either got one little value wrong or I did it a different way but still got the correct answer. Unbelievable
The grad student in the tutoring center did a way better job than she did at explaining what things ARE, not just how to compute them. He also did a better job of linking together the difficult concepts of Calc III. I definitely learned more from him than from her. And yes, the other reviewers are right, she has a lot of strict rules.
As reviews say, tough grader and lots of rules. teaches how to do the calculations but not how to interpret it or what it means. tutor in the math tutoring was better at explaining what the calculations mean and how all theorems fit together and he's only a student!
I love Bita so much as a teacher. She challenges you to do the thinking process and make math so much fun. But you need to have strong integration and derivatives skills and also doing calculations well without calculator in order to enjoy her class. Fyi, her office hours are bomb. So sad that I couldnt take her classes anymore :(
i love her, i wish she teaches all my engineering classes too
Marks off homework doesnt follow the book tests are harder than her counterparts. She said if you want an A you picked the wrong teacher points off your test for being late to class and we had guest speakers teach us the first half of the semester.
Bita is an amazing professor! At first she might come off as intimidating but once you get to know her, you realize she cares a lot about her students and will do her best to help you understand the material. Downside is that there are 4 exams including the final and it is very easy to fail if you don't do all the practice handouts. You will learn
took this professor during fall semester. this professor likes to play favorites among students. and there were multiple instances where I asked a question and she would just roll her eyes and explain like its a chore for her.
I took Bita during Spring 2020 and she was amazing! Her lectures were clear and when we transitioned to Zoom she recorded supplementary lectures. Overall all she cares about is that you learn and are prepared for your next class. If you are looking for someone to care if you learn, take her! I wish she taught engineering classes!
I know some reviews say that she's really tough - she is, don't get me wrong on that. But she really does care about her students and she is open to questions and will answer them. She is quite literally, one of the best teachers I've ever had. I wish that she taught some engineering classes too!
I know there will be people here who will say "she's caring", "she's intimidating at first"& come up with an excuse for her blunt rudeness. I should have listened to the bad over good reviews, I didn't listen & regret even stepping foot into her classroom. I've personally seen her call out students in front of everyone and embarrass them.
Her grading methods and the way she talks to students are degrading. Her teaching methods left more than half of my classmates and I too scared to ask her questions, as she will belittle any question that makes her repeat herself twice. She plays favorites and will only pay attention to those students in small group sessions. Do not take her.
Currently taking Bita and she's the worst professor I've ever had. Her lectures are not clear at all. She teaches about what she knows, rather than beginners. She goes SO fast, you're spending most of your time trying to catch up rather than understanding. Her quizzes are 1-3 minutes long, makes you feel dumb, & has favorites. DON'T TAKE
This professor is very hard. Her quizzes are basically what mistakes she made on her pre-recorded lectures on topics NEW TO US. Makes us open our videos even though were basically just doing worksheets in class. Take this class only if you have taken this course, or can handle flipped classroom teaching. Good luck.
She gives heavy lecture, heavy exams (no calculators/cheat sheet) and 1-3 minutes quiz in every video lecture.
She cares about teaching, and it's very evident. Not the easiest class, but would definitely take again!!
