Easy to follow and funny in-class (even tells some really BAD norwegian jokes). Not much homework but tests are long. Cool stuff: open books so don't have to memorize formulas.
Best class in math ever...Great professor that can relate to students. Take this class instead of the elementary stats class by the horrible dr. Burkholder!! Exams are directly related to material in class and the review sessions helps a lot.
lots of material and work, but fair grading and he really cares about the students....
lots of material and stuff, but he made stats fun (I know its crazy).... take him and aviod the other guy teachning stats
AWSOME and practical. Really did get to learn how to make databases.. The algorithms were a bit boring, but the project and the hands-on lab work were OK. Great class, but lots of work...
He spends a lot of class time talking about himself instead of the material. He is nice and tries to help if you have a question, but is difficult to understand. Thankfully, the material is fairly easy and so is the class - just make sure that you take good notes. You can use your notes on tests.
best math teacher yet. extremely helpful outside of class and always makes time for questions. his grading is fair but his tests are pretty hard. by far though the best teacher ive had yet.
Great guy that is always in a good mood. Need more like him.
I've had him twice, for Mat-215 (applied stats) and Comp. sci. 380 (data warehousing). He's good and worth the tuition. Stats was a bit rough, but it is a tough subject to teach. He genuinely wants the student to learn, and is willing to help.
Cool guy!
True programming class. Tough but you can take notes and use them. Could be more flexible on assignments, but give all you need. Ok for programmers, hard for beginners.
Dr Berg is a great teacher. His test are direcly from the notes. Just attend class and take decent notes and anyone could pull an A or B. He is very personable and you can cut up with him. You get to have jokes in class which actually turned out to be very fun. I would definately recommend him for all comp. sci classes.
He's somewhat easy as long as you do his reviews and come to the review session before his test. however, his tests are somewhat difficult but if you go to the review, you should be ok.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. I hate lectures, and by the end of the semester I actually enjoyed it. He's very laid-back and causal, but also very serious about teaching. Also, he's one of the most experienced professors you'll have.
Never seen such much details in a course. Finally somthing that I can use in the real world. Tought love for slackers (3 Fs so far). The college should offer Cisco certif. and make this a hands-on class. good prof
You have to take this class, and you have to take it with him. Don't dread it though because he's a pretty cool guy and it's not hard to get an A as long as you do your work you'll be fine.. Later
cool guy that is not afraid to work with you. Fair and fund but not a push-over. If you want a real job, Dr. Berg has been threre and can help getting a big-5 job. just be prepared to work your a**-off!!
Good Class, Easy, Decently Nice Guy
Awesome professor! I missed a lot of classes and still made a good grade. He goes out of his way to help students. He even listed homeworks I was missing and let me make them up. He's awesome!
I had him for stats, and I hate math. However, he was very helpful and all of his tests were open note. I made a good grade in the class which usually does not happen for me in a math class.
Project was hell, but we did it and the system actually worked. he is good teaching and fair grading but can ask for too much. anyway i can model now and create databases so i guess - learnt something
Good course with with handson work. He will work with you and most do good. have lots of examples and i likd that it was real.
Dr. Berg knows his stuff. He talks a bit fast and is sometimes hard to understand. He gives lots of examples and knows what he is talking about and the case studies are sort of 'OK', but the project is humonguos and should be individual and not team projets. Nice guy though
really tough teacher....im sure he is a nice guy but he just doesnt add the sugar to my tea that i was looking for. i should have taken elementary stat
get over yourself, Dr. Berg is a dude that gives a crap. He expects a lot, but it is NOT elemtary stats (you get what ya signd up to). In applied stats you gotta apply it; do the paper and you'll be fine....
LP Rocks!, DW Stinks, Bergman is is the man!
Interesting Class with lots of things to take in.
If I could suggest taking one class with any teacher while at LR I would undoubtedly suggest that you take Applied Stats with Berg. Not only will you learn and retain valuable information that will come in handy for the rest of your life, I guarantee that you will be thoroughly entertained through the process and will have fun
cool LP assignments
Awesome professor! Favorite so far, this class was fun and I enjoyed going. Attendance is mandatory, but it was definitely worth -the only thing on tests was what he talked about in lecture and code exaples. Tests were fill blanks/code fixing and pretty easy as long as I studied! He's also really funny! Take this class!
great guy
good course, with info. should be more handson but good stuff and lots of material. most like berg but the homewrk is boring, class is ok though. i hope robotics pick up or that berg take over that course with some hot attacks and games, because that course stinks!
mid-term was good and hw is not too hard. interesting guy that seems to have worked lots of places. mix of discussions and math is about right, but a refresher on stats would be good before we do the assignments
Great prof with real experience. Dr. Berg was THE best prof at LR , I'm bot sure why I paid for the other courses. Dr. Berg should teach all econ and fin courses in the MBA program.
fun dude
On-line course, with weekly assignments. he is fair and gives weekly feedback. can be somewhat rough when you miss something, but also loves to write smiley faces and use "Excellent!!!!" in most emails. Boring class, but on-line with BB makes it tolerable.
Knows his material and may come across to others initially as a 'know it all', but he has a point. Just read..and then think!! On-line assignments are easy but took some time to complete
keeps it real
he is somewhat boring but otherwise a nice person. Often funny but not always. Easy grader
Good guy with tough material. He is helpful and always happy and well prepared. An easy 'A' if you take good notes. probably one of the better profs at LRU
good guy
WOW. Dr. Bergmeister is the greatest. He really helps you when you need it. Berg was my teacher my freshmen year but now he is a good friend of mine who I can count on anytime with job hunt, reference and resumes. Take Berg if you get a chance but DON'T forget to do the work and take the online quizes.
IceBerg is one of the best Professor's I've ever had for a course. He is extremely knowledgable of IT, and knows how to run a classroom. He is clear in his presentation and explanation of course matrials and cracks up in class. He is funny, but somehow cares beside his Viking look of sterness...
FUN GUY WITH GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR. HE IS REALLY INTO RESEARCH, SO U WANNA GO YO GRADSCHOOL BERGMAN IS YOUR MAN
CAPM and PMI course with SAp, do I need to say anymore? Good for certification, and job hunt, but overall too much content
Dr. Berg is a professor who has a very good sense of humor and interacts well with graudate students. He treats you like an adult and is prepared for class with examples, assignments and gives timely feedback. I like the fact that he is also available outside class and is willing to work with students who need more attention or some hints on LP.
Cool guy who knows what he's talking about..
The Doctor is on-time and on-schedule. Clearly organized and on-line assignments are many and handson. Some lectures are boring, but he makes up with lab assignments on BI and SAP.
Dr. Berg is an amazing Professor. For some reason, I went into this class thinking I was going to fail, but Dr. Berg made the class easy to understand and worthwhile. He likes to talk, but his stories are usually related to the lesson of the day.
Mostly hands on work, homework and assignments. But Dr berg is reasonable and easy to get along with.
Dr. Berg's stats course is the most beneficial class I have taken. An extremely well educated man and shares his knowledge with daily examples as applied to stats. Incorporates current events and has opened my eyes to the power of empirical evidence. Does not hold hands nor tolerate fools. If you desire an A, its yours. sluff-off, and forget it.
Dr. Berg's applied statistics class is THE clas that gets you prepared for grad school. He wrote awesome recommendations letters, and seem to love research. He is not easy, but really prepares you for med school, science and research. THE best prof at LRU.
Weekly quizzes are a buss-killer.
Ok class by decent professor enuff said....
I'm happy that Lenoir-Rhyne University has a PhD-level professor in the computer science/IT department who has been incredibly successful in the private sector. This professor is essentially a case-study of someone who has succeeded in this field. Dr. Berg keeps every lecture interesting with what's going on in the real world in terms of IT.
ERP course with 25+ hands on exercises, lots of labs and homework. Decent prof with good attitude.
Hard dude.. good project, but too much for a single semester.
If you want to actually learn anything in this class, the textbooks will be your best friend. Lectures were extremely difficult to understand, deadlines and expectations for assignments were unclear, and his syllabus was riddled with spelling and grammar errors. Highest score earned on any assignment by any team was a B. Avoid if you can.
Doc Bergs database class was hard, but very practical. We had to build a real database with reports and a transaction system. Only one student got an A (that I know about), but lots of Bs. Most lab sessions were coding, design and data movement, and it was difficult for many who had little or no coding background. This class is for JR/SR only.
I am appalled that Berg is still teaching computer science courses. His lectures consist mainly of off-topic rambling, and the things he's making us do are things he struggles to do himself. Marked points off an assignment even though I got the right answer, and the class average on the midterm exam was a D. If you ever have to take him, leave.
Berg seems difficult because he keeps you on your toes, and he does so in an unusual way. The way he grades things and the way he says he grades things (which aren't the same) will have you constantly worrying that youll fail the class, but your grade will turn out much better than you think it will. 70% of this class is mind over matter, so relax.
Berg is a wonderful professor, and he provides tons of valuable life lessons for you. Berg is a part time professor at LR, while also working for PWC. When he lectures, he likes to apply everything to the real world. Overall, he is a great professor and does know a lot and if you apply yourself, you're do well in his classes. No need to worry.
I dont see the point of having a group project in this class, and I do wish he werent anti-technology (it's a computing class, why aren't we allowed to use a computer?) But other than that, I don't have any major complaints. If you're more than about 10-15 min late, don't bother showing up at all; hell tell you at the end that you cant sign in.
Greeat prof
We had do create logical . Conceptual and physical data models inErwin. We also had to create SQL server databases and load data, as well as building a GUI. Lots of project work. Those who had great teammates and got along did well. Those who were slackers, or had poor crappy teammates, struggled. Dr. Berg said that that was like real projects.
I hate stats, but Dr berg makes it easy. There are lots of examples and we can bring our notebooks to the tests. So not much to memorize. He also gives out lots of handouts and we doin class homework on most of the assignments. The IceBerg also seems to care. He said his goal was to give everyone an A!!! So far so good.. 100s on all work
Analysis of Algos was really an AI course in R-Studio. Some, that didnt have taken a stats course struggled, but most did well. Dr. Iceberg recorded every session online, so we could always see the material again. The dude also gave the code from each session so it was easy to get started. due to CV19 we did only a little in python. good class.
evening MBA course in analytics with Dr. Berg was one of the best courses at LRU. The material we covered had weekly team assignments, but with powerpoints, starting RCode and Youtube videos of the session by the prof, it was much easier than I feared. This is a course that all MBAs should take. 90 min sessions and 90 min teamwork per night
If you want to really learn, take Dr. B. Ive never understood math, but he really explains things well and is a great teacher. Very picky though.
Not empathetic at all. Not even during COVID-19 where not everyone has a camera to be able to stick to his mandatory camera on rule. He would kick us if we didnt have a camera on or if we used our cellphones for the zoom call. Absolutely horrid of a professor in the classroom but not a tough tough grader. Still wouldnt recommend.
He had weekly assignments in machine learning and AI, with a bunch of coding homework in teams. Great intro algo class with real programming in R. He also had recorded every session and gave good ppts, and shared all code from classes. Good prof for CS majors. His jokes are a bit off and not always as funny as he thinks :-)
I did not have a lot of interest in analytics but had to take the course as a CS major, so this seemed like a good option. He takes the time to help you become a better analyst and R programmer, you do not get that kind of help in other classes. Not an easy class, but I probably will go to grad school for analytics, due to this class.
Great dude
By far the best professor I have had at LR in all my 4 years. He is very understanding and knowledgeable. No book needed just read the case studies and youll pass. Your grade is determined by 2 exams and hands-on work. The first exam was fairly easy as well. Attendance is mandatory but helped me understand the IT material (I am accounting major).
I had him in 3 courses and he was nice and caring. Lots of work, but an easy A so far.
Dr. Berg did not adequately prepare us for the final project he assigned in this course. Unwilling to admit to his mistake and correct it, we had to report him to the Dean and his boss. It worked, but we shouldn't have had to do that in the first place. How is this man still a teacher?
Prof Berg likes to cover the classes with handson project plans, milestone plans and a couple of dozens assignments. The project folder is the most important, it is the final exam. You will like the scoring sheets that told us what to do. Easy A, and a nice guy. Slackers got hammered if work wasnt turned in on time, but most friends got As & Bs..
Another class with prof Berg, a funny guy who talks a lot about research and projects. but dont worry it all makes sense in the end. bunches of jokes about stats and everything else. seems somwhat rough but is a pussycat underneath :-) most sessions are also recorded on YT so easy to follow.
lots of ppts and movies that he has made, makes it easy. Nice prof.
This class have lots of homework and problem solving. need applied stats to pass regression hw. the professor is well prepped and all material is on ppt and on YTube.
Decent hybrid class. Just wanted the online portion from the financial institute to be more practical. Should be a good prep class for an actuarial exam test. The prof should follow the textbook better, but he was clear and there were tons of examples and a couple of OK study guides. Easy A.
Simply Bright. Strong, short and to the point No baloney!
Super casual professor, he is very enthusiastic about computer science and analytics, intelligent, and obviously enjoys teaching. I would absolutely take any of his classes over. He still shouts hi to me in the halls which other professors rarely do.
I cannot say enough helpful things about Dr. Berg. He not only makes Computer Science/SAP easier to understand, he mysteriously manages to make it, unlike other professors, enjoyable as well. I truly look forward to seeing him in class, which speaks volumes about his capacity to combine teaching with a caring environment. See you next semester.
a bunch of hw, but all interesting. course is well organized and YTube movies helps a lot.
Berg was a great professor who obviously spent a lot of time on developing this course. He was very practical and the team assignments were highly relevant to our MBA studies. The fact that this evening course was also streaming on zoom, made it easy to watch the lectures at home and for a hotel room. I highly recommend this course.
Dr. Berg is such a nice guy, who seems so serious with a bad sense of humor. He is extremely well organized, a Harvard graduate and simply brilliant. I never thought I would have a professor like him at LRU. I cannot believe that I am making an A in analytics. He seems so stern and angry, but he is is simply the most friendly professor at LRU.
