Great teacher. Offers extra credit and is a funny guy. Shows cool funny video clips and stuff. Take him and you will at least get a B.
He is a super good guy. Just stick w/ quizes and you will get good grade
Very Good teacher!!! I loved it. Very easy to understand him. He is great.
He was a nice guy. The class wasn't too bad but I didn't feel like I learned anything from him. It felt like I had to learn everything from the book which was really hard with the text book he assigned us. If you do the projects though then the class shouldn't be too hard.
Very fair and always willing to help the student
He knows most of what he teaches, but he gets crazy sometimes. Almost senile type crazy. One time he said, "Some people love Flash. I don't know why you would love an inanimate object." But he was dead serious, not joking. But it was a pretty easy class. I had a hard time not laughing at him all the time, tho.
He is a really good guy that knows his stuff. IF you are paying attention you will be fine. Sometimes people don't get when he is joking. Good teacher and a fun class. Don't fall behind and don't skip class or you are way behind.
good teacher
This guy is the biggest nerd at BYU-I! He is nice, loves this subject, and has good tests; but youlearn hardly anything in class. No attendance was taken and most of class time was left to the student to do HW or his test. All of my friends said their class was much easier with another instructor.
Took for webpage design, and Bro Robertson is very knowledgeable on the subject. Assignments can be vague at times... but overall good! He helps ya out with any questions or problems. Final is cake, just had to make a website. If you pay do the work and listen it will be an easy A...
I have taken a few classes from him and I am not impressed. He has knowledge in what he is talking about, but I don't think he knows how to teach it and help other people understand it. His work load is heavy. I honestly learned more on my own than from the class. But he is a really nice teacher and does care about the students.
Great teacher! Easy A for me. Some students had trouble, but the course in general is a little tough. As long as you stay up and follow what he does in class you'll be fine. Falling behind will wreck you! Lots of work, but a great teacher!
CIT 230 is a Web Design class. I thought it was an easy intro class, but I am familiar with HTML. Anytime I had a question Bro. Robertson was happy to help. In each assignments he told you specifically what he was looking for, and he graded lightly. We had to buy 2 textbooks which I rarely used since we covered a lot of the material in class.
He is funny and goes out of his way to teach his students. He is a good teacher and knows his stuff.
Blaine Robertson is an excellent professor. He teaches in a way that is easy to understand. He gives you every opportunity to get an A in his class. Just be sure to turn in all the assignments on time and you will do great. He only requires one $15 book ... which you can read in a weekend and check out from the library.
LOVE THIS MAN! He knows his stuff and has a way funny sense of humor. Will go out of his way to help his students if he thinks that he should. RECOMMEND :)
Brother Robertson is a great guy and loves to help. The class started off slow and easy at first as he made sure everyone understood the basics. The pace picked up somewhat halfway through the semester and things started coming together. Overall it was a good introductory web design class with no previous knowledge required.
ok class, we wasted a month in the beginning because he didnt evenknow how to communicate with the database. still held acountable for ll that info. hard and not clear. that and not really fair with the peer grading and how he looks at your site. for me at lest it was a complete waste, othershad it ok i guess
Extremely helpful with understanding the concepts, very clear and precise with his expectations. If you don't understand something, go to his lab hours on the off days. There may be a small wait but he will do his best to get to you or have the TA's help you. That being said, the TA's don't have all the answers. Definitely recommend him though!
great teacher!
Great teacher, funny. Just keep up with work!! learn the necessary!
He's a funny guy, he just has no idea how to teach php in an understandable way. This teaching methods confuse more then they do good. Most of the students did not have a working website at the end of the semester and those who did we at the tutoring lab 3 times a week. I would say avoid him, but you cant hes the only teacher who teaches 336. GL!
He is the worst by far for this class. Interesting guy, horrible teacher. You'll feel like you're fed out of a fire hose. Grading expectations make zero sense. You're responsible for assignments whether he's taught it or not. My grade went from A to C+ off of one assignment because I "didn't understand". BYUI, get a different teacher!
Great Teacher! He will seem kind of unclear at the beginning but if you attend all of the classes and do the readings it becomes clear. I knew nothing about anything but he was able to help and is more than happy to answer questions. I would definitely recommend him!
This class is insane difficult. If you had brother Barzee or some other teacher for your previous web class, buckle up; This man is out to get you. I feel I'm pretty good at this stuff, and the coding required to be known by the end of the semester left me with an F. I'll have to retake it...again.
Always willing to help but not very good at teaching. You really need to have prior php experience or you will have a hard time in this class.
Bro. Robertson is exactly what BYU-Idaho looks for in a teacher. He knows his material well, but doesn't teach you any of it. He puts all the materials out there and creates an environment for you to learn how to learn. has a great sense of humor and keeps class worthwhile and enjoyable. I learned more in his class than almost any class i've taken
This is the most frustrating class that I have ever taken. I was interested in the subject prior to class but I will now avoid web development classes. He doesn't teach you anything. I should have paid youtube the money for this class.
He doesn't teach you anything. I have heard him say several times to find the answer yourself even if that means going to google. His grading scale makes no sense. It is essentially a pass or fail for a 3 credit class. He did not even want to give us a schedule of due dates until me pestered him for the first 2 weeks of school.
I did well in this class, due to prior HTML/CSS experience. Many people struggled. If you pay attention to the small details, you'll do well. The class starts off slow, but speeds up quickly. Bro. Robertson REALLY knows his stuff, but has no idea how to present it well. If you have zero previous knowledge, this class will require some extra work.
I love this teacher. He is an expert in his field, and knows all the material extremely well. He prepares you to work in the real world. He expects you to go over course material on your own, and if you have, and you don't understand, he is right there, ready with answers to your questions. I had no prior PHP experience. Worked hard. Got an A.
Great class to take. Super easy to get a good grade if you do what your supposed to.
This is the most frustrating class I've ever taken. You spend half the class listening to students give presentations on topics they studied the night before, then the other half listening to students who know PHP ask really technical stuff. Robertson is a nice guy, but an awful PHP teacher. I learned more from 1 hour of Lynda than I did in a month
Nice guy, no good at teaching. Convinced that forcing you to guess what he wants you to do is teaching, and that if you learned it on your own that he was really the one that taught you. Beyond annoying, I still don't understand my grade in the class. Avoid him if you can.
Bro. Robertson is an awesome teacher. This class is basically all one big project where you build a website and he teaches in a way that helps you learn how to do it for yourself and not rely on the T.A. The class was really fun and he is very clear and accommodating. He has a fun personality as well and is easy to get along with.
Easily the worst class I've ever taken. Directions are really unclear, the grading scale used makes no sense, he doesn't use i-learn for turning in assignments like every other teacher at this school, and going to class really wasn't beneficial. I learned nothing from the professor. I had to search the internet for answers because he can't teach.
Class material is taught using student presentations. Should take CIT160 to help with this class otherwise it will be a headache trying to piece things together. Will need tutor or other classmates to help learn material. Will not accommodate for the final, no show, now grade, that's it.
Take CIT260 if you have zero experience with code, because you do not learn that in this class. Good teacher overall. He has clear tutorials and instructions on his website so he does not like to repeat himself, which students misinterpret as him being unhelpful, but he is willing to meet one on one. Need 80% on each objective to get A.
This class was incredibly frustrating. Most of your grade was from the final website and he did not teach us to do it well at all. The people who met all of the requirements had spent a ton of time in tutoring or had had previous experience, and even then they weren't always successful. My advice would be get tutoring as soon as possible.
Bro Robertson's CIT230 class is pretty easy and really beneficial with a few catches. The whole class is just you build a website from start to finish. $30 fee required. He doesn't use ilearn. Check your grades on his website. Got a c+ cause I didn't know where to check my gradesredo assignments (within a week it's allowed, 50% credit). Recommend!
Proceed with caution. Grading system is totally messed up. Can have a light sense of humor but the lectures can be rough in the way that he only prepares 10 minute lessons and let students ask questions the rest of the time. Lastly it is hard to keep track or on schedule in that class, the syllabus is 14 pages long!
I hate the way Bro. Roberston teaches. I came into the class with a firm understanding of the material and thank goodness or I would not have learned it from this class. His philosophy is "Be Reasonable, do it my way" and that mentality shows through in the way the course is set up and the way he teaches. Want to learn Web Design? Take Comm310.
This class is hard, not going to beat around the bush. But only if you don't do the reading or if you don't try. Because all of the workload comes out of the book. Overall I loved this class. I learned a ton, this teacher is AMAZING. he will do anything for you, and he is a very clear instructor. GET THIS PROFESSOR BEFORE HIS CLASS IS FULl!!
The way he grades is confusing and he has a "do it my way" style. He also plans short, lectures (which occasionally means getting out of class early) and spends most of his time answering student questions. Most of the workload is light, but with spikes of really intense work. In his class Google will be your best friend.
The best day of class is Friday, because we usually start class by watching a funny YouTube video (he likes to call it "Fun Friday!"). If you take this class then be sure that you look and the grading matrix and use it like a checklist. He has a very odd sense of humor, but i found him hilarious.
He teaches as if he's a resource that you use rather than a mouth piece you just listen to. Because of that, a lot of people get frustrated with him. He aims to prepare people for real life, when no one will baby you through a project. That said, if you do your work, read your books, bring questions to class, it's a skill you'll be proud of.
I enjoyed Robertson as an instructor. He starts class by answering any questions we may have. He knows his stuff too. There was not one time when he wasn't able to see what I did wrong and help me learn how to fix it.
Really good teacher. He is doing all he can to make this class simple and clear so students can pass. He is always available during his office hours and helps out a ton. He changed the assignments some weeks when he noticed some students were getting behind so we could all be caught up. Also be forewarned this is a programming class not design!
Brother Robertson provides great resources on current development tools and tips. I really enjoyed this class and I feel it was all very applicable to how I want to make money later on. I did however spend more time outside of class studying than any other class but it has all been worth it for the skills I have learned.
Great professor; I've taken programming courses at other places and Bro. Robertson is definitely prime. The careers associated with the skills presented in this class are constantly changing and require a huge built-in desire to learn on your own and keep up. So, if you treat his class as the same, you will be fine. Thanks Bro. Robertson, THE BEST
Brother Robertson is a great guy. He is patient, however, he does not teach. He gives you assignments and does not teach anything. I was lost the entire semester.
He is one of the best professors I ever had. I took the online class, and he makes a video for our class every week. He is always the first one to answer questions on the discussion board. Super fast reply on emails, and a lot of comments on the homework, so you know what you did right and wrong.
Bro Robertson is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He cares about his student's learning and sets expectations really clearly. Seriously, all you need to do is read the rubric beforehand and make sure you do everything on that list. He is always extremely responsive to questions for help. He also provides really good TAs for extra help
Bro. Robertson was great for introducing us to the topic of web development. He was more than helpful when asked for guidance or clarification inside or outside of class. The group work was more there to help make sure no one got left behind, was more of a buddy system and not a painful group assignment.
Brother Robertson only uses class time to answer questions. He would rather you try and teach yourself and only approach him when you have issues. I prefer teachers who teach during class time. He only answers questions and has work days.
Web Front End Dev. taught me so much. Bro. Robertson does an excellent job keeping the materials current so you're not learning about old technology or anything. His course outline is clear and easy to follow. The class can be tough towards the end, but that's just the course. He does an excellent job keeping you involved & engaged in class. 8/10
He doesn't teach us at all and expects us to have gone through the whole weeks work the very first day. He also tends to talk down to us when we do try to give input or ask questions. Because of that no one asks questions anymore. Then he gets more frustrated at us because all he wants us to do is ask questions.
He is the best teacher I've ever had. He made me love php! The class wasn't easy. However, Brother Robertson helped me to believe in myself. Now I have a desire to continue learning this language. He creates a great atmosphere in the class where everyone is willing to help each other.
Consistently works to ensure students learn as much as possible through class. If you have extenuating circumstances he works with you. If you take his course you can't not learn. I took 230 then, because he was such a great teacher, turned around and took 336 as well.
I think Brother Robertson did a good job teaching this class. He is pretty fair and has really clear grading criteria for all the homework. The class is time consuming because it's HTML coding but it's not super hard and going to class helps. Get a good team for this class! They can make all the difference.
I have had a few CIT courses at BYUI and Blaine Robertson is hands down my favorite. He is knowledgeable, kind, caring, present on the discussion boards, willing to answer questions, clear on instructions, willing to help and meet, wants everyone to be successful, encouraging . . . I could go on. Yes, to Robertson!
Bro Robertson is a great prof. He knows his stuff and is always open to answer questions in and out of class. His assignments can be a bit tough, but you have a team that can help you if you need it. Attendance isn't mandatory, but advised. He gives help during class. No textbook. Online materials.
I loved Brother Robertson. He is awesome and really knows this stuff. He can also be pretty funny. The class is hard because it is a 300 level class but Brother Robertson gives you a lot of help and resources to help you get the homework done. I would definitely recommend taking Brother Robertson, one of the best. Your groups are important btw
Get a tutor, save our grade. But for real, bro. robertson is nice and all and super willing to help! But since this class is set up in a way that you teach yourself, if you struggle with programming GET A TUTOR! I did and it saved my grade.
This class was extremely hard, and it just made me angry! Every single assignment was a better way to do the previous assignment and thus made it feel like you wasted hours doing the last assignment. He's a great guy I'm sure, but I hated his class because it caused so much stress and anxiety.
He doesn't give lectures, just lets you figure it out. Get ready to spend a lot of time trying to solve homework problems for several hours at a time. The reason we're in class is to learn from him. Basically class is just a work day and presentations from other students.
He only uses class time to answer questions and doesn't teach you anything, even when you have issues he doesn't give you answers just tells you to figure it out. When you do have a question he doesn't really answer it, oh and you have to ask the "right" questions as well. He will also call you out and tell you you're wrong in front of the class...
Brother Robertson is one of the best teachers on campus! He's not going to just give you the answer, but he will enable you to discover the answer on your own. His classes are hard work, but you end up learning so much more that it makes everything worth it.
He talks for the whole class but doesn't focus on what he talks about. He has something that he wants to talk about but it doesn't match what you need to do for an assignment. He had our whole class redo an assignment because he told us we weren't understanding.
He doesnt teach you anything period. He asks if you've done the reading and if you have he still won't help you so what's the point of having a teacher? His grading is also messed up, he takes all the course objectives and mixes them up in every lesson thus having you learn hard end of year code at the beginning. If you value learning DONT TAKE HIM
Honestly take one of the adjunct professors instead of him. He will not teach you what you need to learn to pass the class. He asks do you have any questions, no one asks a question, he then gets offended and says in summation learn on your own. What he does teach makes no sense then for ?'s about his teaching he doesn't answerandshamesyouforasking
If you are looking for a class that is the closest experience to hell as you can get then this class is right up your alley. If you don't want a professor to teach you then take this class. If you like being shamed in front of the whole class then this class is perfect. If you appreciate learning all the wrong things about web then take this class.
Brother Robertson is my favorite professor of all time! I wish he taught more classes, I would take from him again in a heartbeat! He has been an excellent instructor, spent a lot of time in instruction, responded quickly to any questions, brought the spirit into the course and encouraged us to work in teams! Do the work and you will succeed!
Please Im begging you, do not take any class in your existence under this Professor. Youll thank me later.
He is a nice and a good teacher. He was helpful however he's very traditional with grades. He has no leniency when it comes to late work. He made a mistake with something and got very annoyed that we tried correcting him. For the final, we had a very big website to do and we also had a test. For a web design class a project should have been enough.
Do not take any class from this professor if you want a fair grading scale. He literally gave me a zero on an assignment for a typo. Also, if you do something wrong, be prepared to be publicly humiliated in class.
Brother Robertson is a good teacher. He has the tendency to either under-explain certain topics and over-explain others. Fortunately, his TA is great and is willing to answer any questions you might have. When Brother Robertson explained a topic I wasn't familiar with, I asked the TA for clarification and I better understood it from then on.
You need to take preparation quizzes before class but they are open books so not super hard. His class might be boring but it is not too bad. You take weekly quizzes in class. He gives chances for extra credits. There are NO finals! It's just 2 big projects in the last 2 weeks and they are similar to previous assignments you've done before.
Blaine Robertson is completely unhelpful in teaching his students. His assignments do not facilitate learning, they facilitate brainlessly following directions, and his classes are filled with unrelated personal life stories.
The least helpful teacher I've ever had at BYUI
Great teacher, but heavy assignments
I would rather drag my bare bottom on the hot pavement then take this class from him again. It was complete torture. He didn't teach and for some reason thought we'd just know to build a database.
My prayers at night include never having to deal with this man ever again.
Brother Robertson is my sleep paralysis demon. Never take this class from him. It was such a horrible experience I'll be dealing with the trauma for the rest of my life.
Every teacher uses the same grading system except for him. So on top of the basically six horrendously difficult projects you have due at the end of the two weeks, you have to figure out what grade you actually have by deciphering his wacky grading system. And you'll always be nervous you didn't calculate it correctly.
