He's one of the best management professors I've had. For this class, you need to set aside a lot of time to study the case studies, readings and calculations. If you study well, you'll do fine in his class. If you want an easy class, take another class
he is the real teacher ever since I studied, despite the overload material , he is the role model of teacher
Very good prof. to take for this course.
Be cautious from these ratings they seem very vague. Wait until you hear from others.
you purchase the text and you have to print out the reading materials as well. very vague at times, uses whole four hours. very fast paced. you'll learn soemthing. just have to focus rea and re-read everything. lots of readin and thinking involved
Instructor Berkley - This instructor is very good, you don't need to buy the MGMT book - you can print it for cheaper, he gives you the site. You do need to buy his booklet from Book Mart though and print his Power Point Slides. Just do the reading for the cases and study the slides.
Be prepared for tons of readings. Case analysis discussion are very interesting to listen too but the powerpoint lectures can put you asleep. Alot of the information he discusses will just stick to you, eventhough your half awake! Just read all required readings and you will get an easy "A".
Agree with others...very organize when teahing, test maybe tricky...lots of reading (Casessss...should take for any MGMT classeessss
PROFESSOR BERKLEY TAKES HIS CLASS VERY SERIOUSLY AND TEACHES REAL WELL. EXPECT TO B IN CLASS FROM BEGINNIN TO END...NEED TO STUDY BUT ALL IS WORTH BCUZ REALLY COOL PROF AND HELPFUL. 1 MID/FINAL
This professor teaches very well and takes every available minute to good use until the end of each classes. Case studies are very interesting. Text book is written very clearly and professionally by him. You'd learn a lot from the class. But exams are very hard.Must read text word by word. Not much of case questions on final.Be prepared to do math
Mr. Berkley is a phenomenal instructor. He manages to cover a lot of material in in his class, yet makes it fun and interesting. I still recall many of the valuable lessons learned based on the cases studied in his class. I would definitely recommend him for MGMT 308.
One of the best professors at Cal State LA. His lectures are interesting. Teaches material that you will use over and over again for all of your buiness classes. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to learn something in class. Best advice for passing with a high grade is ready everything and don't miss class.
Dr.Berkely is a very organized instructor. He's really interesting and gives very helpful examples. There is alot of reading, so if you're not a serious student, don't take him. Exams are hard, you NEED to read everything! You don't have to buy the book, he provides it throught the web. Very good teacher!
He overloads you with the reading and there is only one midterm and one final. Final and midterm extremely hard you dont know what to focus on, since there is so much reading to do. The cases are interesting, but just hated the fact the overload of reading he goes to the extreme.
he is a good professor and he is very nice..his teaching is good..very organized...however, his class wasn't that easy...but I got B anyways..be careful some questions in the test are kind of tricky...
Bst class I have taken at CSULA...Must take, do the readings+write ups....should have no problem with mid term or final. Only way you get a bad grade is to not read, and not participate....highly recommend!!!AAAAA+++++
good prof try to tell you as much info as he can cram into lecture -- only 2 exams both of which over 60% is t/f which is good and bad MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE READINGS AND PAY ATTENTION TO EXCEL DEMOSTRATIONS!! not too hard to pass
This teacher is full of himself. He wrote the class text book. Doesn't that tell you everything. He picks on you especially if he knows you haven't read the cases. He thinks everyone in the class is a professor and expects you to know everything before he teaches it to you. Too much reading. He forgets that we have other classes as well.
Pro: No need to buy expensive text books. You pay about $27 for a book. Boring subject, but he keeps it interesting and you stay the whole class period. The midterms were curved. Participate in class so you can pick up some points. Con: Too much reading, very little explanations for the Excel assignment. The tests covered a lot of material.

This was one of the best classes i have taken at CSULA. The professor is great because he understands and teaches the subject very well. You do not need to buy the textbook, he provides his own. Easy class if you keep up with the reading and make sure to attend all lectures and stay for the entire time.

Great Professor !
Very good instructor. A lot of reading to do, but this is college, of course you have to read to learn. Very helpful.
He's really professional. Teaching very clearly, but need lots of reading. All of them are very helpful for the exams, which are lots of questions.
Great professor. lots of reading, easy understand.
1 midterm, 1 final, 1 take home final (excel formula questions). no attendance. no writing hmwk, but some reading only. class paticipation from reading. easy to understand. cheap textbook. need to study to pass the class. but he gives lectures til the last minute of the class always. overall, great professor.
lectures the whole 4 hours of class. must study to pass tests. lectures are boring. 1 midterm 1 final. read and you can pass with a b
Lots of reading and you have to attend class and stay the entire time since his exams are based on case study discussions. Text book is really cheap and you do use it.
Great prof...But very hard take home exam and final!
No hw, 1 midterm 1 exam (MC, T/F, short answers) Not hard, participation can influence your grade a bit. Lecture until at least 9:30.
this is like a computer class, you use a software to build models for hws, midterm/final. Not hard as long as you do the work and ask for help if you don't understand.
Lectures entire time. Has his own texts; $16.50 "Cases" book is all you need. Attendance recommended because discusses cases in class, other than that lectures get kind of boring. Be prepared for cases because he picks on you. Takes photo of you to remember your name! Has an annoying lisp. Needs some effort; make sure to read and practice problems
Forgot to add that the tests are curved, and so is the class! Which is a good thing, and makes up for exams that are not necessarily easy. 1 midterm worth 40% of grade, and 1 final worth 60% along with a take home final. Closed book, no notes. Must read to keep up and pass. Practice the homework problems for Chapters 4 and on!
INTERESTING CLASS..BUT TOO MUCH INFORMATION AND WORK TO BE DONE. THIS CLASS IS LIKE TAKING TWO CLASSES
He's got a lisp and is very systamatic. Never lets you out early, uses every last minute of class even if the material could be covered in much less time. Overall the midterm is not too bad but the final is pretty challenging. Personally I in the beginning i liked the class but towards the end i couldn't stand it. Insanely boring.
Be prepared to stay until 10pm on the dot. Read all cases before class and come to class for lecture. Only 2 tests and no homework. Tests are pretty easy if you follow along. All True/False and multiple choice. He is pretty boring, but the material is very easy to learn. His books are very cheap and one is online for free.
WILL KEEP YOU UNTIL 10PM ALWAYS! A lot of information to absorb, extremely interesting class especially the case studies, but the statistical computations were dry and boring to me. I would have done way better if it wasn't for that. The great thing is if you attend class, listen, take notes, and read you'll pass. Especially since grade is curved
Very borring lectures, hard to stay awake. Grades on a curve (big one at that)He is helpful, but case studies are a bit dry.
very nice guy, and very passionate about teaching but i would not recommend taking him. He keeps you the entire 4 hours and won let you out until 10pm on the dot. 1 mid term and 1 final, test cover ALOT of material! and im talking like 10 to 12 chapters each.and the final includes a time consuming math problem.all test tricky true false problems
This teacher is very nice and calm. He likes to teach. He is not difficult. You'll stay the entire class. Sometimes the case studies will be boring. If you read the book, his quizzes and tests will be a piece of cake. There are quizzes every week (M/C questions). Grades on a curve (massive help). 1 mid and final (T/F and M/C questions).
Case studies are done the first half of class then a 30 min break followed by lecture. Keeps you their till 10:00pm. Not an easy class but the professor is very knowledgeable in this course. You really need to study on the mid term (40%) and final (60%) to get a decent grade.
Keeps you till 10:00pm. There is midterm and final. You need to study everything, he will cover it all on the exams. He curves the midterm and final grade. The lecture is very boring.
Very knowledgeable professor! Extremely information filled class. NOT an easy A but not impossible either. Don't expect to be excused early. Recommend attending class, taking detailed notes, and reviewing for exams. Virtually no homework other than some chapter problems (on exams). No textbook req. just case studies booklet.
Warning! If you want an easy grade and to leave class early this is not the professor for you. On the other hand, if you want to acquire valuable problem solving skills I highly recommend this professor. This is the most valuable class I have taken and the best professor. Take notes and do not miss class because everything is covered on the exams.
Extremely hard, but not hard to pass. Everything on the powerpoint and reading is on the midterm and final. MUST STUDY EACH CHAPTER IN DETAIL TO GET AN A OR B.
looking for an easy A this is don't take. Want to learn operational management take this class. lots of reading material & case studies. not an easy A. he grades on a class curve. grades up for class participation & dings you for not 1 midterm 1 final Lectures are clear, very knowledgeable teacher reading material on moodleCases booklet $20
Very organized professor. What is on the syllabus is exactly what will happen. Long lecturers. Don't miss. Tough tests.
He is so mono toned. cover's way TOO much information. you will NOT leave a minute early. his grading is 40% midterm, 60% final. FINAL IS BASED ON EVERYTHING. his tests are two scantrons, one for multiple choice, one for True and False questions, AND there are hand written short answers. YES all this ON EACH test! i advise to look for another prof
Work hard, you will get a good grade. He is very knowledgeable, you can learn a lot from him.
His Lectures are long and he expects you to learn everything. 30 true/false, 30 multiple choice with forcasting and other calculations you have to learn, basic calculus computation and statistical analysis. Be ready to put a lot of time and effort in this class.
His class is not hard, just need to spend time to study and review, and take good notes. He teaches very well.
Will NEVER let you out early. Expect to be there till 10pm. Lectures are long and boring. The book (which he wrote) is also long and boring. Tests are tough and have MC, T/F, short answers, and calculations, BUT he grades on a curve. Insanely boring class. Wish I had taken with a diff professor.
You will be in class for the entire assigned time. Lectures are detailed and interactive. Writes EVERYTHING on the board. Very clear and methodical. I really enjoyed the class - learned a lot and it was interesting.
Read the cases and study the PowerPoints and you'll be fine
Terrible. He went to Law School and makes everyone read cases. The Homework is hard and so are his exams. Don't take him!
Honestly if you are looking to be bored out of your mind take him. He just lectures with his monotone voice for the entire class time. I had him for 2 hours and 45 minutes not one time did he not lecture. I think he could have did a better job making the class way more interactive. You need to go to the class for notes they are the test
Berkley is super smart! He's nice & willing to help. He goes back to re-explain the subject. Someone previously said he writes everything on the board, but when I took his class, he lectured with PowerPoints, which where available before hand on Moodle & tells the class exactly whats on the test. The subject is a bit difficult but manageable.
Definitely need to read ALOT and analyze each case study. A very hard grader, the only thing that saves everyone is that he curves, or else everyone would fail the class. Lectures are long and he writes the book. There is math involved in MGMT3060 so be ready for that. He looks for very precise answers so there is no getting away.
Great Professor if you want to learn. Extremely meticulous and detailed. Course content was HBR cases and Prof. Berkley has done a great job. Real-life scenarios, explained pragmatically and to the point. Would definitely recommend him for this class
Test are hard but he will post all his slides on moodle
Good prof knows his subject. Lots to learn so can be difficult for those with busy schedules. Two midterms and a final straight from his power points and cases. Pay attention and take good notes he goes over the tested material in class. Grades on a curve , which helps.
I took Professor Berkley last Fall and he is great if you want to learn something take him. The book is about case studies which are a little outdated but can still be applied today. Test are fairly easy if you study of course, text is cheap, no much HW. great class
Don't get me wrong the professor is good just that what made me get a bad grade was the HW. It's worth a lot of your grade and yet the HW has nothing to do with what is discussed in-class and the reading assignments. He only takes the last 30 minutes of the 4 hour HW to go over a sample of the HW which he explains fast and that's it. Got F's on HW.
There are 4 assignments and quizzes from the powerpoint every class. He doesn't post powerpoint slides before class. SO there is no way to study for his quiz. Everybody fails his quizes. He never lets us out early, always goes until 8:45pm. The powerpoint slides have too many in them. THE TEST COVERS ALL OF THE READING ON MOODLE. DO NOT TAKE
There are too many quizzes. The quizzes ruin your grade and he doesn't post the slides before. He does not explain the homework at all. The homework is 4 assignments and is worth like 20% of the grade. He needs to spend more time in class explaining how to do the hw. He goes over each slide so slowly. Everything about this class is boring
The class never gets out early. There is always a reading quiz at the end of every class. He doesn't explain how to do the homework at all. He expects you to know excel beforehand. The midterm is extremely hard since there is no study guide. He expects you to know like 11 case studies for the midterm. There is a huge curve so tha helps everybody.
The quizzes every week, they ruin your grade and he doesn't post the slides beforehand. He does not explain the homework at all. The homework is 4 assignments and is worth like 20% of the grade. He goes over each slide so slowly. Everything about this class is boring. I wouldn't recommend him for any class. The homework is all group work.
Just save your money and dont buy the textbook. Study off his power points and youll be good for the test. The prof will either boost or reduce your grade by 1/3 based on your class participation so raise your hand at least once each class. His quizzes are graded harshly. He grades hardsly on homework too. I got 50% on all of homework and quiz.
Dont buy the textbook. Just use his PowerPoints. Participation matters a lot. There is no extra credit. He curves the midterm and final. Then he curved his own class. His grade pretty much saved everybody from failing. He lectures all class so dont expect to leave early ever. He gives a week to do each homework assignment which is all on excel.
Make sure to review the case before class because of the pop quizzes. Participate in class so you get that extra boost in grade. Make sure to pay attention in the lectures for his short answer quizzes. He doesnt give a study guide for either the midterm or final. His exams are so thorough with 70 T/F and 50 multi-choice, 10 short answerquestions
His test are ridiculous. The exam is over 200 questions total in one sitting. Midterm and final allows have questions from homework, case study and extra readings on Moodle. His test have 60 T/F Questions, 50 Multi choice and 10 short answers which takes the whole period to finish. Recommend doing the short answer questions first, less stressful
The tests that he gives are extremely difficult, but don't get discouraged since his curves are so extreme to the point where getting a 50% is a B. His lectures are extremely long and his homework takes time as well. Make sure you come to the class before the homework is due so that you understand how to do it. Expects you to read his book everyday
You dont need to buy his book. Just pay attention during his lecture for the quiz. To study for the midterm, make sure to read all of the small articles that he posts on moodle and just study the powerpoint slides. You dont need to use the book. Everything is in the powerpoint
Case studies are somewhat interesting if your interested in business/management but its a lot of reading. Expect a quiz each week after the lecture. The test are very hard but he grades on a curve. Must study from all the powerpoints and revert back to the understanding of the case studies to do well on the short answer questions for the test.
Just reads off the Power Points and hardly even teaches other than giving his examples. Does not engage students and honestly sometimes would put me to sleep. Don't take him, I am warning you.
Professor Berkley has an amazing personality, he is informative when it comes to the case studies. On exams you'll need to study the slides, and know what went on each. Midterm was 100 questions with T/F, multiple choice and free response. The final was 200 cumulative multiple choice and T/F. Get the book if you want to fully understand the cases.
HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND. PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COST. Take another professor if you can. Its too much. He is the hardest professor I have ever taken. You need to be very specific in your test answers to do well. So you do need to read and study for the exam. The exam multiple choice is way too long and specific. There is too much to study.
THIS PROFESSOR IS RIDICULOUS WHO GIVES OUT A final was 200 cumulative multiple choice and T/F. AVOID HIM
Cal State LA Business school has been a joke for my 3 years here, and I can tell why given this is your department chair. Lectures are boring and just reads off powerpoint, just go to class for quiz at beginning of class and then go home. Youll learn more reading it yourself at home. 200MC test with grades being curved down to the highest grade.
This class will be challenging! Random quizzes are always to be expected and must have a detailed answer in written quizzes that are done in a short amount of time. Your grade will consist of a few random reading quizzes, one cumulative midterm, a cumulative final exam, and a written report. Do not miss a class
Professor Blair wasn't the most helpful. He would lecture for almost 3 hours, and was always very monotone. He curves the grade at the end of the class, so you will never really know where you stand with your grades. Felt like I only learned because I read the cases.
Professor Blair Berkeley was by far one of the best professors I had at CSULA, Most people are not there as an Operations Management major and often find this course dull. If you have an open mind and ask many questions in class, there will always be a satisfying and fulfilling experience in class.
Only professor teaching this course. Takes the entire class time lecturing. 200 T/F, multiple choice, which includes 7-10 short responses. You can study the ppts on canvas but it's like 50+ slides to read for each case. Not a good experience in terms of lectures for me but try your best. Curves exams to whoever got the highest score. Nice guy tho.
Challenging class with a tough grader, but worth the while. You must have the correct answer notionally in order to achieve full points for the questions. Lectures are relevant and provides insightful discussion amongst the class. This Professor is the one you will want to take if you want to challenge yourself. He is old school and on point.
Blair is definitely old school. He is very knowledgeable but does not do a good job accepting when he is wrong and should admit his fault. I strongly recommend coming to class to better understand the material. He is not a good grader and will mark you wrong if you don't give enough explanation to your answers and if he can't read you answer.
+ test materials are heavily based off of case studies that you have to essentially memorize to be able to answer any exam questions. there are TOO MANY (14) cases to memorize. + lecture heavy. he delivers all the information he needs to but he needs to do it in a more engaging manner to get students more enthusiastic to learn.
This professor has an outdated teaching style. His class is heavy on two tests one midterm and final. The grade is curved. He is hard. I DO NOT RECOMMEND.
This class is hard but was by far one of the most insightful if you are pursuing a career in Operations and Supply Chain. The class is curved so some will fail but it is not nearly as difficult as others let on. Show up to every lecture and take all the notes you can and you will be fine. He answers most of the exam questions in his lectures.
Whatever you do avoid this professor. Never rated a professor until now because he still haunts me to this day. (Spring '23) he takes a picture of you to remember you, which is weird. Even if you do the group presentations, weekly case questions or any other work it will not count towards your grade. His curve on the midterm and final are insane.
Lectures for the ENTIRE 4 hours, asks students questions and then when someone answers he basically says it's wrong. Grade depends on midterm and final only. Gotta memorize all 16 case studies for the final. Class is boring and very dull. Wouldn't recommend his class. Very old school style of teaching.
Avoid this prof if you can. He thrives on intimidating his students and assigns a lot of busy work. I would give a 0/5 if I could. Would not take again.
Bruh this class hard af tbh
Professor Berkley grading system is scary lowkey. I got 90/183 on midterm and Final exam I bombed the exam with 51/229. His curves are insane. Its only graded by those two exam for your entire class. No assignment, no extra credit, no nothing. Do good on the midterm. Get over the median and shall be guaranteed a pass at least with a C.
This professor is not for the ones that are used to sometimes showing up or pay little attention to course material or constantly zone out. This involves tough material that will require your full attention, curves are a double-sided sword, your competition is your peers. But try your best.
There is no homework however your whole grade determines on 2 tests which are packets and extremely difficult with unclear instructions.
only 2 tests which are hard. no homework or extra credit. Failed the class and he makes ask for a picture of you.
The teacher isnt bad, but the class is fast-paced and not very user-friendly. There are quizzes at the end of class so little time to absorb the material. When students ask questions, the teacher just repeats himself. The assignments are time-consuming, and exams are exhaustive, covering everything in detail, including case studies and definitions.
Good luck with this professor, he expects the answers to spot on, it does not matter if you are notionally correct, he will mark it wrong. He basically talks for the entire class and gives a quiz at the end of class based on the lecture he gave. His curve can be good or bad for you depending on how good other people do. Just avoid him if you can.
Don't take this class if you are lazy, you have to read 20 case studies and memorize a lot for the quizzes, midterm, and final. He's a nice guy as long as you put the effort you will be fine. The curve is your biggest friend do better than the average and you will pass easily. Lectures for the entire 2 hours and 45 minutes so take notes.
If you have the option to avoid this class I strongly advise you to please do. Extremely stubborn if you state your claim that he made a mistake. He looks for very specific answers so even if you're correct, he'd still give you a low grade if it's not what he wanted. Expects you to memorize every case. He is a good guy but awful professor.
I would highly recommend avoiding this professor. He is not clear with his explanations and his expectations for the course. Like all others state he only cares about his opinion. I'm surprised department heads have not started an investigation on this professor performance. He lectures the entire time and feels like your listening to a recording.
Please do not take his class even if there are no other professors available! Absolutely horrible teacher, provides no feedback, lecture and reading heavy. Entire grade only based off of one 15 point assignment, the midterm, and the final. Expects you to memorize everything he says, powerpoints, and case studies. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
No textbook/no homework. You will need to take only a few quizzes and three exams, including the final exam. The exams are on paper and consist of 16 pages with approximately 25 questions (mostly quantitative). No multiple-choice questions. Since there is no textbook, you must attend class to understand the material. Class bad, but professor nice.
In MGMT 4500, Professor Blakely insists that students engage directly with each case rather than relying on tools like ChatGPT. That rigor is what equips you for the real-world case analysis and decision-making you'll face in your career
