Just when you think you know a lot about one of the concepts, he surprises you with a bunch of really interesting/cool information! He's so passionate about bio!! :)

If youre thinking about taking an honors class, take his biology class. He is very intelligent, pumped about teaching, a little fidgety but very interesting. Surface Area is the most important lesson he ever taught me, it still answers questions to this day that have nthing to do with biology.

Blake is so awesome - he's passionate about the subject and wants to make sure the students are learning rather than copying words onto paper. Show him that you care and want to learn and he's willing to do what it takes to make you understand. I like that he's not too easy, because it forces you to apply yourself. Really cool guy!

Mr.Barron is a great teacher;He is knowledgeable about the subj and he teaches bcuz he wants to see others succeed as he did.Take good notes and study for the tests.The study sessions help a lot.Human sexuality is interesting in itself but he makes things connect together and biologically make sense.He will wake you up @ an 8am class!Take his class

If you are ready to work your ass off then you will do OKAY in this class. The class was all over the place. It was often difficult to know what we were talking about. But if you take the time to meet with Blake, he is more than willing to help, so that makes it nice.

he's like super man, has a 5 year old, gives like 5 classes at sbcc, grades tons of papers and still manages to have office hours. best advice answer all the review questions for the exams, and put time into studying for the lab quizzes he'll ask the randomest things, not the hardest (which is what makes it fruistratingly hard anyway)overall great!

I took the summer online course with this guy. He REALLY cares about what he's teaching. Great class. He offers many different resources and has great mini-lectures. However, this class is meant for majors. There is a non-major class if you're not so serious about the subject.

blake is a devoted biologist. he knows his stuff and you better believe you will too when you're done with this class. the 5 units with lab are packed with interesting things. this is a very hard class for someone who is not a bio major (like me) but is a lot of fun and a good kind of challenging. not like you have a choice weather to take him.

I took his 102lab and I was fascinated by the number of animals his TA brought to class every lab!!!I thought he was a mean guy but after I got to know him, I understand how great hw is. In lab, if you do what you have to do (fill out lab manual and study for quiz+exam), you can get A+!Quiz is mainly from the typed info of lab handout!!GOOD LUCK!

Blake Barron is by far the best teacher I have ever had. Blake will make animal bio crystal clear. His website is truly amazing; it has everything you will ever need. The material is tough, but Blake gives great study guides/review sessions. He is truly one of the most helpful, knowledgeable, & caring profs. The labs are also amazing!

This class changed my life! I always hated biology but I have a new passion for it thanks to this class. Blake is amazing. I got thrown into Bio 102 my first semester as a freshman. The class was challenging, but Blake provided the tools to succeed in his class (lecture notes, tutor sessions, and an open door). The effort that you put into the class determines your grade. He's a great professor teaching a very interesting subject... Good Luck!

Wow, best teacher I have ever had! His class has a lot of extremely hard material, but if you strap your self in for the ride and try your best he wont let you fail. This was a great class and the field trips were fun. He explains everything very clearly and the study guides are long but very helpful. If you love animals and spend a lot of time watching animals planet this class will be a breeze. The papers are easy but just don't wait until last minute to finish.

This class :hard:. There are weekly quizzes, labs to complete, tests, research papers, written assignments. It's a lot of work. BUT. Blake is an awesome teacher. I LOVED Blake. He loves teaching and is very clear about everything. He truly wants you to succeed and tries to get you there. His classes are not easy (I have taken two, 107 and 137) but they are completely do-able if you keep up with the reading and homework. He is why I chose to go into nursing.

Had him for animal bio. Tough course, very demanding and loads of information that you are expected to understand. His notes however are very clear and he explains answers to questions extremely clearly. Truly cares about his students and takes the time to know everyones name. Highly recommended

Very demanding class. Certainly do not take it if you aren't prepared to hit the books for the tests, practicums, and paper. Blake is a great professor. Very enthusiastic and interesting material, he makes class fun! This class is a lot of work which makes it hard, but in terms of the difficulty in material it's pretty easy to understand as long as you do the work. Seriously, TAKE THIS CLASS! Biology of human sexuality was so much fun. I'm an international student just studying for fun, and BMS 136 was the best. A lot of hard work, but getting C is easy. Blake is the best professor I will probably ever have. Blake's class is designed to weed out those who THINK they want to be a scientist, M.D., and other high-level science based professionals. The material in this class was very easy, but Blake has you EXTREMELY busy the entire semester, making time management the hardest part of the class.

There is so much information in the class and he expects you to know every detail like the back of your hand. I would not recommend taking this course with another heavy course (i.e. chem) as this class tends to get very busy. He outlined what was expected of you, and even though it was a lot of work it was manageable with a heavy schedule. Blake Barron. Is a biology god. His lectures are amazing. I know the class seems VERYYY intimidating, however anybody can succeed in this course! You will get a high score as long as you stay on top of your taxonomy, attend PAL sessions (active participation is key), take amazing lecture notes (as detailed as possible), and form a study group ASAP!

Just like most of the reviews mentioned, Blake is an amazing professor! The class is not easy and requires a ton of dedication and diligent work, but it is so worth it. The amount of information that I learned and retained is insane! I strongly suggest attending the PAL sessions as discussing the content with a tutor is a great study tool.

Make sure to take the weekly quizzes and study (shouldn't be too hard because everything he teaches is super interesting). He's very understanding and cares about his students. Highly recommend!

Some of the homework assignments are long and tedious but worth it and you will learn effectively. Be prepared to memorize a lot of information, but the tests are simple if you understand the material. Some of the free-response questions are really fun to answer, and his personality is unmatched. Everyone loves blake, and he wants to see you learn!

Blake is an amazing person and loves teaching. Use him and the PAL tutors as support as much as you can. 3 best pieces of advice: 1. Fill out his study guides during the lecture, do not take notes. 2. Going to PAL sessions gives extra credit. 3. Do not underestimate the amount of material he is giving, it is a lot.

Blake is by far the most well educated professor I have been taught by. Out of the 3 bio classes his is the most engaging and rewarding. Holds you accountable with demanding but realistic expectations. Class goes through a ton of material so be mindful of that. Accessible outside of class,willing to work out any issues with you. LOVE this man. He is great, understanding, hilarious, and really caring towards his students. There is a lot of material to learn, but he covers all of it pretty thoroughly and will answer any questions you have. Lots of extra credit given out. Gives you study guides to literally let you know what questions are on the tests.

Blake is an amazing professor. Genuinely one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. If you put in the work YOU WILL GET AN A. I encourage everyone to take a class from Blake while he's still teaching. Aside from being a great professor, he is so helpful for bio students/pre-med students. 100/10 for blake.

Amazing teacher I was really scared to take this class at first. You will do great he is amazing and cares for his students. Although it is a lot of work he is very flexible and it is doable. There is a 10 page paper he gives plenty of time to get it done! There is 4 exams (1,2,3 and final) and 2 practicums which are taken in lab.

Blake is the best prof at SBCC. He does such a good job teaching this course and you can tell he loves his job. Lab is super fun and the homework that comes along with it is very doable. SimUText was kinda pointless tbh but not hard, just a time commitment. I love Blake so much he is the reason that I am a bio major and going to UCSB.

Blake is the absolute best! He's so easy to talk to and genuinely cares about his students. He's fun and easygoing.I want to take his other classes in the future for sure. He's one of those people that make you feel like you are on the right track and he will help you with pretty much anything. Best professor ever!

Blake is the best professor at SBCC and definitely the best prof I've ever had. He truly cares about his students and is extremely passionate and knowledgable in animal biology. It's a tough class, but the material is genuinely interesting and Blake makes it so enjoyable. His tests are for sure difficult but as long as you study, you'll succeed!

Lots of material, but if you don't do well on one of the exams, you're able to compensate for it with the essay and other assignments. Blake was one of the best professors Ive had. He is understanding and works with his students. Exams are tough and the class is taxonomy heavy but the information is very interesting. I learned a lot from this class. His lectures are fantastic. Labs were lecture heavy and not very research based, yet you still learn a lot from them.

Even though I am not a big fan of biology, there is no denying that Blake is one of the best professors I've every had. He cares very much for his students wether it be about school or life he is always there to listen. I took Blake's class in the Fall of 2023 and LOVED his class. Not only is the material interesting and engaging, Blake is an enthusiastic professor who could make anyone like biology. There is a lot of studying time that needs to be put in, but the PAL tutors are super helpful at giving studying tips and going over topics again.

His class is a lot of work and you definitely have to show up to all the labs and lectures if you want to do well but it's worth the work. I was dreading taking animal bio because I knew it was going to be taxonomy heavy but this class was super easy. Blake does an amazing job at teaching (+ academic counseling). Almost made me want to switch majors to marine biology fr lol Just keep on top of things (assignments, taxonomy, simbio, research paper, etc.) and go to the pal sessions!

My favorite professor at sbcc! Makes the class so easy to understand and always gives out help when memorizing taxonomy, etc. The class is so fun with super memorable labs and field trips. He also supports each student, no matter what career they want to go into. ATTEND PAL SESSIONS! They help so much for quizzes/exams/practicums.

Blake is super supportive and smart. He tells you exactly what you need to do to do well. Animal bio is taxonomy heavy so be ready to memorize A LOT. Invest in a whiteboard. Lab practicals are hard but exams sometimes have extra credit. Start studying early for everything it's A LOT of material. The tutor's are great help

He's very accessible and responds within the day and is very willing to help with any problems. Besides exams, there was one research essay and a video presentation and also online discussions pretty often. There's a lot of workload since it was a summer class but the material is spread out well and ended up feeling manageable and understandable.

I love Blake!!!! This class has a lot of material but Blake is one of the kindest professors I have ever had. Make mnemonics to memorize your taxonomy for the lab practicums early in the year so you don't have to cram all of the taxonomy at the end of the year.
