I took his macro class in Winter 03, this guy is very antiestablishment, kiss his ass and agree with him and you will get the grade if you don't he won't listen to your or help you, I see him be rude to many students.
I took his class in summer of 03 this guy is a Real ****, and is very unhelpful, avoids spending time to help, or answer questions, gets upset if you don't agree with his antiwar policy, severely criticizes war on iraq, this was suppose to be econ.
Another, typical anti-war dolt who thinks Econ should be the place to discuss foreign policy. He's a waste of space and a waste of your money. Adminstration should mandate he teach the subject or don't teach at all.
his lessons are always interesting, he is very creative and friendly
Typical loony cook-burger. What should you expect from a macro guy. If your into communism, granola, and tevas, take this class. If your a normal tax paying person that doesn't take well to soapbox diatribes about off subject issues, then avoid this loon. Could I please just learn the material???
I thought he was an excellent teacher, always kept me interested. He also really wanted us to succeed and was great at explaining the reasoning behind concepts. Just because he is anti-war, and kind of a hippie doesn't make him a bad teacher.

very interesting...never noticed any strong political leanings, though. he never got off topic.
very nice guy, kept the class interesting. Fun
I took Sorem for Macro & Micro economics. Fascinating class discussions, fun "Survivor"-like competitions, and extra credit galore. He really cares about the students learning, and readily applies "real world" happenings to classroom instruction. One of my main regrets at Pierce is I only was able to take him for 2 classes.
I took micro and macro economics from Professor Sorem and its the easiest class that i've ever taken. He gives ample extra credit opportunities and really makes class fun and enjoyable (through games, discussions, etc). EASY CLASS!!
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Very good looking man. His hair is made of golden locks. If only he had a fancy tupe... Overall really good teacher. At least I don't think he's a communist :/

Blake was one of the best teachers I've had at Pierce. He constantly told us to stop by his office if we had questions, he is very funny, his notes are well organized, he does not require a book for the class, he gives many opportunities for extra credit, and he's fair. He gives 5 homework assignments for the quarter, each taking about 10-15 minute
Took his Macroeconomics course. Very simple. 5 homeworks, took about 15 min each. If you take notes you know the answers to the homeworks. If you get right answers on your homework they will be used on the test. So in reality if you take notes, you should be able to get a great grade. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Sorem.
one of the "shouldav-taken-classes in Pierce as business major"
Took macro with him. HW and tests are reasonable, as well as his notes. One would be wise to ask questions he deems smart, if not he gives the worst attitude in response.
He was a great teacher. Never got off topic, interesting and easy to understand. All you do is take notes and those are on exams. Recommended professor.
PROS: didn't make us use textbook (save $), obviously knows his subject and gives good lectures. Throws in hisotrical connections to material. CONS: Maybe I caught him at a rough spot in his life but he was a total jerk. Rude, arrogant, made people feel outright stupid for asking questions. He was constantly late and cancelling class.
Great Teacher. If you pay attention in class and take notes you will learn more then just the curriculum in the syllabus.
I had him for Macro and Micro. He is an awesome teacher! We took lots of notes, but they were very well organized and he goes at a good pace. He simplified everything making it very easy to understand. I got 4.0 in both his classes. befor his class I knew nothing about econ. Would highly recommend! I learned a lot. And he is funny!
Blake is a really great teacher. He knows what he's talking about and knows how to teach economics. Topics are explained in an intuitive nature, not just lectured about in addition to reading. Being in class is very important though, he covers much information and shares much during lectures.
He is a great teacher! Sarcastic at times but funny! His lectures are organized and clear. Study the homework that is what's on the tests. Class is easy as heck! 4.0 and no studying! Take this if you need an easy A!
His exams can be very difficult, but if you study and understand the material you will do fine. His lecture notes are very clear and organized. He does not like stupid questions; a little common sense goes a long way. Blake is always there in his office hours, and is willing to help you understand the material.
Good teacher~~Easy 4.0(given you attend his classes everyday).Textbook is not a must... Don't buy it for lesson.I suggest going to google book to preview for free would be enough.I love his stock market contest. That's fun!His exams sometimes have unique instruction, make sure you look at that!
I really enjoyed his Macro class. He leans pretty far to the left in his politics, which tend to come out in his lectures, but his notes are precise and completely relevant to his exams. If you show up and take notes, you're almost guaratneed to do well in his class. Great economics teacher!
Just took Micro, and am very excited for Macro with him!Extremely easy. One small, simple homework every two weeks, tons of extra credit that you don't have to do anything for but show up to class, tests are predictable from the notes, textbook isn't needed. One downside for me, he is liberal and pushed it on us, not that anyone else minded but me.
Excellent professor, extremely helpful and clear. must attend class to receive extra credit. really enjoyed his Micro class Fall-2011. Exam questions come right from class notes, pay attention and you should get an A!!!
Very interesting class with great teacher! Comical, helpful, great knowledge, easy to understand, writes all notes on the board. Stock market contest(Extra Credit) is very engaging and fun. Easy 4.0 if you... take good notes, do homework, study, do extra credit, and you're not dumb.
Took him for Mico and LOVED IT! He gives you a lot of extra credit options and coming to class. Loved going to this class. The downside of it though is the test is very hard/he tries to trick you
Very easy teacher. I took Survey of Economics online. I only ever read the lectures, I never read the text and I passed with a 4.0!
Awesome teacher! The class is really fun and he teaches very well. Super easy class, very much recommend taking it!
Awesome instructor=Awesome class. He knows his stuff and it shows. His teaching style is very accommodating and he is always trying to help students understand. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Blake's lectures were excellent, and he was very clear on expectations. The homework assignments weren't very hard. The tests weren't bad as long as you reread your notes or read the book. He got annoyed when people would ask simple questions though. I suspect it is because he is surrounded by mostly intro level BBA students all day.
Highly recommended!!! I took his class online and He's very easy on homework.
Had Sorem for Micro & Macro and have to say that Macro with him was much easier than Micro. He goes through the process of graphs with Supply & Demand rather quickly, so you need to be paying attention or you'll fall behind. Macro was much easier and a lot of fun with him. He definitely knows his stuff and keeps the class fun and interesting.
I thoroughly enjoyed my Econ 110 class with Sorem. He's very knowledgeable about his subject, and goes into great detail about what he wants you to learn and take out of his lectures. He'll emphasize what he wants you to get out of his learning, and the parts you need to focus on.
Mr. Sorem is by far my favorite instructor at pierce. He is very helpful, and clear as to what his expectations are. You do have to work for your grade, but he gives you all the tools needed to be successful in his class. I would recommend his class to anyone who is a serious student and ready for a great educational experience.
It is pretty easy to get an A out of this class, as long as you finish the assignment and put effort on the test.
Awesome professor who made Economics lectures interesting. I was well-prepared for exams and all information tested on was covered during class lectures in detail.
great teacher, took this class to see I would like to go into business. hes a great guy long lectures and easy homework once a week i missed a few but he gives out alot of extra credit options
Amazing professor. Class was easy to follow. Took it online and he included lectures every week to go along with the reading. Usually his lectures helped so much I didn't have to read the book. Easy to get in contact with, super helpful, and responds quickly.
Easy class. A good and nice professor and very very easy class. Can find most of the answers via Internet and assignments are clear cut.
Blake's lectures and examples are so clear I was able to easily get an A in this class. There's always opportunity for extra credit; and he's passionate when lecturing the class. So much insight.
I enjoyed Sorem's teaching style and clear cut expectations. He actually reads your posts and provides you with specific feedback. I would take him in a heartbeat! Who knew I would love Econ. Thanks Prof!
Give grade with no rules. You will not understand were your lost the point. And he will gives low grade to who has controverisal to him. It's unfair. And you will not get time to make up your assignment if you missed homework, even you have any reaosn. Too much detailed things that you mighy missed. Be careful to choose.
This professor was awesome! He gives a lot of opportunity for extra credit, way more than any other professor I have had. It's really hard to fail this class. He drops the lowest of 4 exams which means if you like your grade, NO FINAL! Homework and discussions you get full points for just for turning it in on time. There are no surprises!
This economics class was a solid choice, for the most part. His online readings were very clear and had good insights into economics. However, He makes you do at least one exam in-person at the testing center. His two online exams were all multiple choice except for a few calculations. His in-person exam was all short answer and was quite harder.
One of the easiest and best classes I've ever taken. Homework was a breeze but exams require a little more work. Textbook is FREE online! Lots of extra credit, he raised my 93% to a 4.0 amazing.
I've spoken with a few other students and we have all had similar problems this past quarter. The practices for exams are nothing like the actual exams, and the questions on homework can be extremely confusing. Doesn't really post much in the class or answer messages in a timely manner. No notes allowed, even though you must memorize a lot.
Best teacher I've had at Pierce in my two years here so far. I highly recommend taking his class if you get an opportunity. Very clear grading with very manageable work loads. He always sets dates and lets you know what is due when and how to do it. Gives answers on all homework. Lots of extra credit opportunities. I ended the class with over 100%!
Say goodbye to your GPA after this class, did all the extra credit and assignments early. Yet the quizzes didn't match up to the exams so I bombed them.
Great lectures, homework assigned helps with studying for tests. Practice quizzes were similar to tests. He responds to emails within the same day.
Not a whole lot of formal teaching (there were some lecture notes, but not every week), but the textbook he uses is very informational and easy to understand so "teaching myself" wasn't that much of a problem. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Would take again; would recommend to those who don't mind sort of teaching themselves.
This class was really easy. Everything that was on the exam was somewhere in his lecture notes that he has for you on canvas. If you read those, and do the assignments, then you should be fine.
Professor Sorem's written lectures and videos are extremely clear. He makes economics easy and interesting my applying concepts to real-world scenarios. Exams are easy and he drops your lowest exam grade.
I have taken his online and in-class classes, and I would take him for all my classes if given the chance.
The best online professor I have had, he actually will reach out to you multiple times throughout the quarter and makes sure you know you can ask him questions. He gives weekly homework usually the questions come from his lecture notes and then some from the textbook, tests are usually from the homework and notes as well.
Professor Sorem is a fantastic professor and a good person. He cares that you learn the material. Politically, we don't agree (I'm conservative). He didn't hold my opinions against me and maintained a positive learning environment at all times.
Very outlined. A discussion, lecture, and then homework. Every two weeks or so there is an exam and a quiz, the quiz is retakable as many times as needed, is to help prepare for the exam. He makes economics easy, anyone can take this class.
Honestly the class was very difficult for me personally but I could tell everyone else understood him well. He give helpful notes and makes exams fair game. I believe i struggled mainly for personal reasons and he helped a ton by having written up lectures. Great prof just not for me personally.
Loved his class! If you follow along with the lectures you'll be fine. He is accessible for questions and always gets back to you quick. There are discussions, homework, and readings every week but not too bad. Readings are about 2-3 pages long and that's where he gets the majority of the questions for his HW and tests.
Great professor, had some homework questions and a discussion post every week. 4 exams, 1 every few weeks or so. Throws out the lowest score of the 4 as well.
Professor Sorem was one of my favorite teachers at Pierce. I had him for micro and macro and received an A in both. The assignments were very easy and didn't take much time at all. There are 4 exams but he drops your lowest score, (they can be hard sometimes). I definitely recommend for people to take his classes. He gives so much extra credit!
lectures are very straightforward
Easy online class. Only a discussion post (and reply )and short assignment each week. The quizzes and exams are all based on his lectures so if its not in the lecture then it most likely wont be on the exam. He drops your lowest exam out of the 4 so the final isnt mandatory. There are also a few opportunities for extra credit.
Professor Sorem is now one of my favorite professors. You can tell he takes his time to make sure his students understand the concepts. Micro is one of those classes you will get lost in if you dont pay attention and even harder if its online. I believe that I got the same amount of info as his in person classes. Take him you wont regret it.
I had Professor Sorem for both micro and macroeconomics. Both classes are pretty easy, just stay make sure you don't fall behind. He is a great professor and he responds to Canvas messages very quickly.
Blake is AWESOME. I took him for ECON201 and ECON202 during the beginning of covid. He was the most understanding and wonderful professors I have ever had. He really cares about his students. He has 4 tests, and the lowest score is dropped. No textbook, so you just have to study the lectures. I would take his class again and again.
Took Sorem for econ 1 &2, assignments are due once a week with a discussion post and reply. Super easy grader, gives lots of extra credit opportunities. 4 exams, the last one is optional, so do well on the first 3 exams. Gives a quiz before the exams with unlimited tries. Exams are fairly easy, as long as you read the lecture. No textbook needed.
Weekly homework and graded discussion posts. Three major exams and optional final if your grade is high enough at the end of the term. No book required for this course. Take advantage of the many extra credit options. Good note-taking helps for exams. This class was engaging and easy to manage with a full credit load.
I would 100% recommend taking this class! First off, he is such a sweet professor to start off with - gives out extra credit points just cause, as well gives many extra credit opportunities. Tests are easy if you read lecture. Just stay on top of homework assignments and discussion and its an easy A. Also an easy grader.
Awesome class, awesome professor, gave lots of opportunities for extra credit, not a lot of homework, one discussion board and one homework assignment (with 8 questions) per week. lectures were easy to understand and super helpful. Tests are super easy too if you read the lectures. Hes also just a really nice guy. Highly recommended.
Professor Sorem posts his lectures as word documents. They are well put together and convenient. He drops the lowest score of the four exams. There are lots of extra credit options and he is fast to grade assignments. His tests are open-note and you can use class materials, just no googling. Would definitely recommend him as an economics teacher.
I had Sorem for both ECON 201/202 and he is one of my favorite professors. Lectures are great, homework is directly related to the lectures and the exams aren't bad at all if you pay attention. I would defiantly recommend Blake.
I loved taking this class. Professor Sorem is very informative, each class is packed with great information. He offers a lot of extra credit, and is very understanding of his students lives
This teacher is a very good teacher. I liked the way everything was organized about his class. The set up was the same for every week. One thing I would highly recommend is to study the notes for the test because the test was based off the lecture. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities that helped. Overall, an amazing teacher.
Much homework. but it is basically for extra credit and helps you to understand how the economy is working. even if you fail the test you can cover it with extra credit. Stoke simulation is quite annoying sometimes. But if you looking for Professor who is not wasting your College tuition. then THIS IS YOU GUY!!!
Professor Blake is an amazing teacher. Assignments include a good amount of reading, but assignments are very minimal. Be sure to study for the Exams because they impact your grade! Offers much extra credit opportunities & you are able to throw out your lowest grade of 1 of 4 Exams. Course structure is similar for each week. An awesome teacher!
Such an amazing professor! Workload wasn't too hard. Usually, we had a lecture, homework assignment, and a quiz to do. He really engages with the class and makes it enjoyable! Studying for exams are a must! He allows you to throw out an exam out of the 4 total. I recommend doing good on your first 3 that way you don't have to take the 4th one.
Professor Sorem was by far one of the best professors I have taken so far, The lectures were simple and easy to understand. The online class was so well structured almost like I was in person. And there's only 4 exams, one of which can be thrown out from your final grade. Extra credit is so plentiful too. I wish many more were like him.
Professor Sorem offers legit so much extra credit. Each week, there is a homework which takes about 30 min. It's just based off the notes he gives though and there is also a discussion, which takes like 5 minutes. He has a few quizzes, but you have unlimited tries. There are four exams which really affect your grade, and he drops the lowest score.
Super easy if you pay attention and follow the lectures. He gives all the formulas and info for the tests during class and then posts online if you miss. He was super helpful. Would take again, easy grade of an A for those wondering.
Take his class a million times. No textbook, lectures are short documents, class is pretty exam heavy, he throws out lowest grade of one discussion, homework, and exam. 4 exams, weekly light discussion, and about 8 homeworks. Material is very interesting. Grades homework based on intent. Again, take his class a million times.
Professor Sorem is the best. Discussions are fun and light. Homework is easy and straight forward as long as you read the lectures. He tosses out the lowest exam grade for you, and he's a pretty interesting guy. Course material is very interesting and he keeps you engaged with fun contests. Would definitely take this class again.
