He does not speak clearly. He gets lost in his examples, then has to correct his answers because he usually makes mistakes. He repeats lectures and doesn't follow the syllabus. Avoid this professor if you can.

This guy sucks, alright, anyone who does not think so is a **** idiot. he cannot teach at all and he has this fece eating grin on his face all the time. he is lame and his tests are bum ramming fests and his lectures are absolutely pointless

Epitome of "absent-minded professor." Knows too much to give a straightforward lecture, alternate mumbling and booming is not inducive to learning, nor is the repeating of the same material for an entire week. Tests on his lectures, not the HW.

This professor enjoys to confuse his students, which can be seen most obviously by the way he laughs at confused questions. Dont worry, he does give an A to anyone that scores OVER a 90% on the final. Of course no one ever has...but you could be thefirst

This teacher is the absent minded professor. He knows his stuff,infact he is probably a genius, but he didn't seem to want to teach the class anything useful. He mumbled to the chalkboard and screwed up constantly presenting material

no doubt he's a smart guy, but try to avoid him. The midterms and final were pretty bad, but after taking the midterms and seeing the solutions, they don't seem that bad and you'll want to kick yourself in the shin for not knowing how to do them.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! worst professor i have had at Davis. MUMBLES, unclear, boring monotone voice, HARD TESTS, et al. I ended up with an A in the class (probably due to the curve), so don't worry, I'm not just posting this because I'm bitter. I would advise against taking him, though.

I should of taken everyone's advice and not taken this teacher. He just made me hate calculus because he doesn't explain the concepts but just prooves them then expects we know where to go from there. I'm basically stuck teaching myself the material. So I'd recommend getting another teacher.

Do not take Temple, he will ruin your life and your GPA, he cannot explain anything to save his life.. everything is so confusing. He makes x+2 seem like it is astrophysics! Please save yourself. God, take me now..!

Definitley the worst calculus teacher I have ever taken. He can't explain anything without having to make it ten times harder and explaining how it relates to black holes. He is one of those teachers who is too smart to get that what they are saying is making no sense to anybody else in the room.

He is a really really bad professor. He lecture is useless and pointless. But his test is extremely hard. He also say it is really helpful for do the homework on the book, but the test he gave us does not relate to the book!!!!Do not take his class because you will regret.

You can study this class because the things he taught in the lecture will not appear on the test. test are freaking hard. The TA are bad too because they do not explain the answer clearly. I was asking the TA a question but she answered"I don't know how to explain"! do not take his class if you can!

He is a good teacher, but his tests are very hard. It is hard for you to pass the test because the things you learn in class will never appear on the exam. Thanks God that he curve the class! I failed the last two midterm but I still get a C in his class.....

I'm going to keep this choppy. Hw not collected, grade solely based off exams. Lecture is useless. He mumbles & wastes time repeating things but it doesnt clarify anything, uses 11ed textbook, seems to be obsessed with KE & Jacobian, boring annoying voice. Be prepared to teach yourself calc. Refuses to listen to students. Just overall SUCKY & RUDE.

Lectures extremely unhelpful, absolutely ridiculous to try to prepare for his exams because they have nothing to do with what is written in the book. I can tell he has interest in the subject, but the class is so poorly structured you are bound to fail. I wish I had done some research before registering for his class.

Absolutely awful. I advise you avoid at ALL costs. Annoying voice. Mumbles so much that his sentences fade off. Gives little to no examples during lecture.Impossible to study for his tests as it's nothing out of homework. Obsessed with Reinmann, kepler, newton and anything not important to this class. Tests are basically proofs.

Mumbles a lot when lecturing, lectures about theory with minimal examples. Tests are all about obscure things he proved in the lecture, and the solutions to practice finals are often wrong. As for helpfulness, one of his answers to a questionI asked was literally "It's a miracle." Slow grader, final grades still not up 2 weeks after quarter end.

Don't take his class. Lots of proofs from lectures covered on the tests. better go to lectures frequently. homework is not helpful and is too easy to prepare for tests. Weekly quizzes.

Absolutely INSANE. He claims that physics is not needed to know the material, but on the midterms, you need an advanced physics course (upper division UC) or otherwise you will be unable to do 3 out of the 5 midterm problems. His lecture is VERY BORING as well. Not possible to pass as you cannot use formula sheet but need it on midterm.

He rambles and doesn't seem to have a coherent idea of what he is trying to teach. We got to material we should have covered in week 3 at week 8, and material we should have covered at week 8 at week 11. He told us a bunch of proofs we need to know but didn't have time to explain them. Tests are a grab bag unrelated to lectures.

It's week 4 of WQ and I'm dying. Literally just goes over proofs in class and doesn't even attempt to make sure you understand it. Our midterm is next week and idk what to expect. I have honestly been self learning for this class. He usually uses old exams but since this is his first time teaching this class, I'm not sure what's even tested.

His class is only graded on the midterms and final and he doesnt tell us about whats going to be on the midterms. lectures are basically him just reiterating the book, might as well just skip lectures and read the book. quizzes are practically useless. class is Very theorem and proof heavy. skims over a lot of the material. overall just bad

Do not take his class unless you have already taken the class before or you are a math major. He overcomplicates the material, rarely does examples in class, and is completely disorganized in his lecturing.

It's almost impossible to hear his voice and week 5 into the quarter, you won't know half the people are in your class until midterm day. Maybe it's because it's his first time teaching this class, but he isn't clear about what will be on the midterm. Prepare to self teach if you get this professor!

HOO BOY buckle up kiddos Temple is consistently uninterested in addressing whether or not his students understand his material. Whenever questions are asked he seems irritated that we don't already know the math he is supposed to teach us. His lectures are fast paced, non-linear, hard to follow, and you would be better served reading the textbook.

Absolutely terrible. DO NOT TAKE! He does not know the material and his lectures are extremely confusing. He does not give practice tests or prepare you for what is on the tests. Discussions, HW, and lectures are all different. They aren't coordinated at all. Worst professor I have ever had. Waste of money. I am sorry if you have to take him.

Wow. Professor Temple is one of the worst professors I've ever had. The classes was solely graded on 2 midterms and the final, his exams and lectures are based upon proofs. He would always mumble during lectures and move way too fast for my brain to process what he was writing on the chalk board.

Proofs. All proofs. He is straight forward on what is on the exams, however he will test you on proofs. His lectures are boring and hard to follow. I basically learned everything from the book. If you enjoy math or a math major, then maybe you'll like this class. I definitely did not. The TA's were never on the same page as him, which was annoying

AVOID!!! Taking Temples MAT 21C class was a nightmare. He would get very annoyed when people asked questions. One time a student asked what a vector was and he replied You really dont know that? You should know this stuff already? He constantly would forget what he was doing during lecture, makes a lot of mistakes and was unorganized, went fast

Very smart guy, but not good at teaching. If you took Calc in high school, you'll get to really appreciate how much he makes relatively simple concepts sound like rocket science. He embarrasses students for asking questions and for some reason he really has something against community college. Hes funny sometimes, but thats about the only positive.

Grades distributed to be 50% from 2 midterms and 50% from a final. Medians for both midterms in the 50s, and curves the final median grade to a C+. Every lecture was on multiple or one huge proof, and hopefully you're lucky and study the right ones that are on the midterm/final. No practice tests or hints of what would be on the tests. Confusing.

Traumatizing. Graded by 2 MTs & a final, but you won't have any idea what's on them since they never appeared in lecture or the textbook. Never fully erased the chalkboard. Spoke in "proofs" Refused to answer questions. Assumed we knew upper div math. Averages were 50-60 (which he said was good for him). Def run if you ever see his name.

Class has no structure. He comes in with a vague idea of what he wants to teach and he goes all over the place when he starts teaching. Writing on board is all over the place and it's difficult to understand and follow. Has a lot of proofs that he explains once and himself didn't know what was going to be on the exam. Expects us to upper div math.

Temple expects students to know really difficult proofs. He can't explain anything to save his life, and his class is awfully managed. He says he's going to cover one thing in the syllabus, and ignores his plan in lecture. In discussions, TAs cover completely unrelated material. This is why professors should not have tenure.

WORST PROFESSOR IVE HAD AT DAVIS. Im a math major. Temple is not a good teacher. He may be good at his research, but he is deplorable at teaching. Look at all the other reviews. I cannot think of one thing I like about his class. No textbook, no homework, no feedback, no communication, no planning. Only take him if you are an effective self-teacher

He doesn't explain anything well and the entire grade was just based of the midterm and the final. Homework wasn't collected and quizzes don't affect grades. The tests ask for a lot of definitions and proofs and had way too many parts to finish in 1 hr. He doesn't communicate with his TAs properly so they don't know what is going on either.

His lectures don't really explain the material well, and you're better off looking at videos on Khan Academy. He only grades you on the midterms/final, with optional quizzes based off homework for rounding purposes. The TA's are left to handle non-lecture things, and they've struggled because of the lack of communication from the professor.

I don't know how this guy is still at Davis. He gives boring lectures mainly about proofs and his research. I havent taken his final yet but his midterm is HARD. It is ALL proofs. Barely any numbers and mostly writing. If you can, AVOID at all costs. He is simply a bad teacher. I emailed him multiple times and have never received a response.

If you have Temple the best advice I can give you is write down everything he does in his lecture notes. It's the only thing you'll be tested on, don't bother with the textbook or AATC tutors, they can't help. I asked if we could have a practice midterm and he said, "no I've never taught this class before so I don't want to make 2 exams." Uncaring.

Homework is more of a suggestion since it isn't collected and is therefore worth 0% of your grade. Grade is determined by 2 midterms and a final exam. The exams pretty much cover what is in his lectures and lectures are very proof heavy. He often gets off topic talking about physics problems that are loosely related to lecture material.

This class, like many of the other reviews show, is a complete mess. There is no communication between temple and his TA's which led to one of the 3 graded assignments to be graded wrong. The only assignments worth grades are the 2 midterms and the final. He rambles a lot and goes off topic in lectures. I only learned from the book. STAY AWAY!

Do not take this class! Our Final exam was too long and he sent out an email before the exam saying he knows it is too long and doesn't expect us to finish it in time. Also the exams are very proof heavy. He flips a coin just 10 mins before each exam to decide if he should proctor it. Skip this class if you can.

I don't why there is no option for choosing 185A as his class. I took 185A this quarter, which is complex analysis. He was a funny guy that alway talked about off topic material. He wrote down ever follow his previous notes during the class meetings, which is very useless unless you really understand it. Two midterms and 1 final paper. Aviod him.

Please skip this class if possible. There is absolutely no communication or organization throughout the quarter. The poor TAs were always struggling to catch up with the professor and I never knew what was going on. The lectures and exams are extremely intense. He's very passionate but not the best professor for an intro class.

Stay away from this class!!! He expects you to be a genius and teaches the class like we're PhD students. Like bro, how do you expect me to prove all of calculus in a one hour test?!?!?

Terrible instructor. All he talks about are proofs. Majority of the exam questions are about proofs. The text book is 100x better at explaining. And it is very hard to understand him in class, he talks very softly.

he teaches like he's talking to himself and his students just happen to be listening to him. he is clearly a very smart person but he lacks any ability to convey his knowledge to his students. he also makes a lot of errors teaching that make studying super confusing later on. study the practice exams and do the homework if you get stuck with him

You are only graded on exams for a letter grade (he curves the median to a C+) and these exams come straight from previous proof based exams (like carbon copy). The biggest problem is that his answer keys show no work and thus finding out how to work out and solve a problem is basically impossible. Lots of physics and irrelevant stuff. AVOID.

Dont choose him unless you are good at math, physics and self-study. Although I got A+, compared with other high division math class, 21d takes me much more time to learn. I never went to his lecture and did all old exams many times to learn and remember those proving methods. Many exam questions are physics provement not mentioned in textbook.

Avoid him at all costs. The only things in the gradebook were exams, and they were all proof based :(

Avoid. Not enough overlap between the material presented in lectures/assigned for "homework"/required for exams. You can tell that this material is not that difficult but the it is presented in a way that is difficult to understand. The exams *could* be easy, but the prof does not go over relevant examples in class. Absolutely hated this class.

Only grade by 2 mts and 1 final. Even the exam is not very hard, u need a lot of time to study by yourself rather than participate lecture.

Class is very physics based and only graded off of 2 MTs and a final. Would not recommend unless you either heavily enjoy calculus or physics.

I don't dislike Temple as a person, just as a teacher. As everyone else has said, his lectures are completely physics and proof-based. That in it itself isn't usually too bad, except that the lectures are useless. I learned more from the one discussion a week than from any lecture. Prewritten notes every lecture that is hard to follow.

RUN!!!!!! 100% exam & useless lecture I didn't learn anything from his lectures, I could only learn from the TA during the discussion. According to the data on canvas almost 25% of people fail this class. JUST AVOID TEMPLE ! ! !

Nice guy, but please avoid. Lectures are extremely mundane and focus way too much on proofs and physics concepts, which are what is tested on the exams. Grading is 25% each of the 2 midterms and 50% the final. Exams are simply just regurgitating proofs that you have to memorize. Average for final was a 56%. Thankfully has a small curve at the end.

Worse class I have ever taken in my life. He seems like a really sweet guy, but I just hated this class and how it was taught.

Only things graded are tests, terrible lectures, does not know how to use projectors, does not speak clearly, bad handwriting, and is bad at explaining. The only reason the class is possible to get a good grade in is because he posts all his previous midterms.

This review is entirely about his lecture style. He is so quiet and unengaging that only the front 3 rows can make out what he is saying.
