She goes out of her way to make you LEARN. Very personal teaching style.
i love her. she is so helpful and nice. shes a wonderful teacher and her tests are pretty easy. she teaches more than what is in the text book, for example she tells spanish jokes. she makes the class fun.
her class is lively and she makes an effort to help struggling students understand the material. she's patient and doesn't make you feel bad if you ask questions or if it takes you several tries to answer something. she tells funny jokes and gave us halloween candy! i would definitely recommend her. so taking her again next semester.
She's a great teacher. Really wants to help you learn the material, and she's really understanding of any problems you may have. If she sees that you're trying, she isn't going to be harsh with grading.
Great class... Prof. Urizar is a very nice lady and a great teacher. Really explains the material well, and helps you get a real feel for the language. Only thing is that sometimes she lets her politics into class, which is uncomfortable if you're not a lefty. But, as a Spanish prof, A+
Probably one of the best professors in all of Fordham.
Prof. Urizar is an amazing teacher!!!! i was so nervous about taking spanish b/c i had never taken it before.. the way she teaches is great, very helpful, and clear. i know more from one semester of spanish than my friends who have taken it for 4 years in highschool! i wish i could take her this semester! DEF RECOMMEND!!!!
She is a very nice person. She really tries to help her students understand the material. you need to buy both the textbook and the workbook for the class. However, she only speaks spanish in class. I thought that would be a problem, but i got a B+. Overall, you can pass the class, but u just got to pay attention and show up for class.
By far, one of the best Spanish professors I've had in the 12 years I've taken Spanish. She made me want to continue pursuing Spanish. Amazing professor. I give her an A+, you'd be foolish NOT to take her.
I loved Urizar! So good, I definitely reccomend her for any level of Spanish if you can take her. She's very easy and doesn't require a lot of work but you still learn so much, SO FUNNY and nice! Hope I get her next semester.
She was good. ONLY speaks spanish in class, if you ask a question in english she'll pretend not to understand. Grading is mediocre but she's nice and funny. I had her at 9:30 so it was a little hard to get energized for her class but all in all she's decent.
Two thumbs up.
Prof. Urízar is an asset to the failing Modern Languages dept. She pushes her students to do well, and rewards effort. She's also very funny. Her quizzes can vary in difficulty, but they are manageable. Submit your essays to her prior to the due date and you'll get a good grade. Recommended for all levels of Spanish.
sweetest lady ever. prior to this class, i always wanted to die taking spanish. she saved me. is so so nice and understanding. it was so easy for me to actually learn. now i do not have her this semester, and once again, i hate my life because of spanish.
Urizar is amazing!! she is one of the best spanish professors at fordham!! take this class!!! each week is a short story and then a short 1-2 page comp due after, but you can send it to her by email and shell correct it for you and then you fix the correstions and hand it in and get an A. BEST CLASS!!! She really cares about ehr students!
I love Professor Urizar. She is extremely sweet and funny during class. I hated and dreaded taking Spanish before her, but she genuinely cares about her students which makes YOU want to care too. The weekly compositions help you learn Spanish better and the mid-term and presentation were pretty easy. Take her and you won't regret it!
She is very nice/energetic like all span. profs. She's not the best at explaining things but she'll always keep going over it until you get it. No daily hw. short compositions every chapter. Makes her own tests. just see her during her office hours and you'll do fine- she really cares about students which is refreshing
She's very nice, but I wouldn't reccomend her. She takes her subject very seriously. Every week we read a story and had an essay on it. There was a midterm, final, and a presentation. Participation was highly emphasized in class. If you're like me, spanish is just a requirement and a nuisance so search for an eassier prof like Hoar or Arrocha
Wicked hard. Don't expect to do well on her tests, which is a majority of the grade. If language isn't as easy for you, you WILL regret taking her. She refuses to speak english unless absolutely necessary during class. I felt lost and stupid half the time. She's a picky grader. If you have her, I wish you the best.
Urizar is very funny and animated. Had her in the early morning but she still managed to keep me awake. Ive learned so much by having a teacher that only speaks in Spanish and will try and take another one of Urizar's classes next semester. I recommend her!
She is so annoying. Too energetic. Always picks on hispanic students. I dread going to class. But overall it's an easy course to get a B+/A-.
Professor Urizar was my absolute favorite professor! She makes spanish class so enjoyable with her adorable sense of humor. She genuinely cares about getting to know her students and is always available for help. She is also great at teaching and explaining concepts. I built next semester's schedule around her 1502 class because she's so great!
She is upbeat and cares about her students. Offers help to those who needs it. Answer questions in her class and she will know your name and be lenient about your grades. She gives great notes and gives you exactly what you need to do well on the test. By far my favorite professor, I will truly miss going to her class. I highly recommend to anyone!
If you do all the work, you would do well in her class. The work was ok, but her voice is annoying. She's always saying "Keep it clean". -__-
She really does care about her students on a personal level; however, I dreaded going to her class. The lectures (especially grammar) were repetitive and boring. She was a hard grader on essays, but you got to edit them and re-hand them in with corrections. I've taken better Spanish classes in high school.
I <3 Blanca! Her class is by far my favorite class at Fordham! She legit makes learning fun and her crystal clear requirements and expectations are logical and reasonable. She lets you rewrite compositions and makes her minimum two-time-per-class participation effortless. Her tests are pretty standard. DEFINITELY TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!
<3!
Blanca is a great teacher- she greatly encourages class participation, but you don't need to say much to get full credit..do the work and study for the tests and you'll do fine!
Awesome teacher. helpful, clear and funny. Definitely recommend
I loved this class! I loved her readings! Shes an awesome professor. If you're a native speaker you will love this class.
One of the best teachers at Fordham! She is my personal favorite spanish teacher. She is fair, fun, and always willingly to help. Professor Urizar, however, does require that you put in effort, but she doesn't ask for much. TAKE HER!!
She's pretty nice, but her tests are hard. No one ever finished her tests early. She doesn't give enough time for them. There are like 6 compositions & really hard to get an A+ on them. But if you ever need help, she is totally willing to help. And she requires u to participate 3X in one class, but try at least 1x or 2x & u should be fine.
She is an okay teacher. She was definitely lively and tried to make her class as interesting as possible. However, she wrote all over the whiteboard and made it REALLY difficult to read what she wrote. I am a native speaker myself, so the class itself was not difficult at all. Not terrible, not spectacular either.
If you love to write, especially in Spanish, this is the class for you. Gave weekly writing assignments, half based on readings and other half on personal experiences. Very difficult to decipher her handwriting.Requires participation: will volunteer you to answer a question. Gives all readings electronically. Must read, will discuss them in class.
I got a B for this class bc she didnt like my presentation on homosexuality in Latin America. Boohoo. She will FORCE you to participate and will make you read pointless stories for class. I didn't learn anything, especially bc we did nothing but read and write meaningless papers. She couldnt even give legible feedback. Dont take her class.
LOVE BLANCA. She's so sweet and really funny. Take her for an easy A if you know Spanish even half decently. If you're not as good you'll struggle, but she's definitely a better grader than any other language professor. I love her I'd recommend.
I've had her for two semesters now and she's easily my favorite Spanish professor at Fordham. She's funny, helpful, and really wants her students to succeed. Give a somewhat honest attempt at the oral presentations - or at least make them funny - and you'll do well.
Awesome woman. Very funny and made the final semester of Spanish bearable. A must take.
Her classes are very engaging and she's very energetic. She is always willing to help with her assignments. She does not give tests but she does assign week compositions. They are not hard but you should put time into them, that is most of the grade. Overall, would suggest. Might I add she's quite funny too.
Urizar is a great professor as far as language classes go. She's great at keeping everyone engaged and she's pretty funny. Homework is limited to online activities, though she does assign a few single page writing assignments. Her tests are never too hard, but there are two oral exams and one final project. She's an easy yet effective prof.
Good teacher with a hard class. She is a very nice person, and really helps freshmen along. If you have to take spanish absolutely take her
She's very funny and always brings a lot of energy to class. Homework and test wise she's pretty straight-forward, but you need to come to class, do the homework, and study to get a decent grade. Class participation is very important, so skipping class isn't an option. My one and only complaint is that her handwriting is illegible at times.
Profesora Urizar is funny as anything and she makes Spanish enjoyable. Attendance is mandatory. HW is limited to online, but she does assign weekly compositions which will only help your grade. Tests are fair and they're not too tough. You can definitely pull out an A in the class if you do the work
She is amazing. She will encourage you, help you, and give you the platform to succeed. She's not easy. The tests are really hard and its not an easy grade if you struggle with spanish (like I did) but she wants you to learn. She did anything she could to help. I took her multiple times trying to get through the language core.
sweetest woman and so helpful. sincerely is there because she loves the language and culture and wants you to understand it. lectures are all in spanish (beware) but she is extremely energetic so she keeps your attention. the work is not impossible but you have to put in effort
Blanca is a really nice lady but not very clear. Since she speaks fully in spanish, sometimes it is hard to understand exactly what she's asking for. That being said, her handwriting is hard to read, and she doesn't write chronological notes, everything is kind of all over the board. Nice person, not the greatest to learn a language from.
Nice person not a great teacher. Speaks only in Spanish so it's difficult to understand homework and what will be on tests. Harshest grader I have had at Fordham.
Professor Urizar is a very tough grader, but only because she wants her students to learn from their mistakes and really learn the language. Take if you don't mind a lower grade but want to actually speak Spanish. Class is fun and interesting, and surprisingly easy to understand, even though it's in Spanish.
I would not take any other Spanish class with any other professor. She takes a genuine interest in all of her students and wants everyone to succeed. Put in the effort, show you care, and you will do well. First time I took her I got a B. The second time I got a B+.
One of the best Spanish professors I've ever had. I recommended everyone to take her and I would recommend you to do the same. The only thing is that she really wants you to participate in class. If you don't she might take a few points off your grade. The participation is really easy, it could be reading from the book or saying the date.
She is the best! She genuinely cares about each student and ensures that the class holds students' attention. Participation matters, but she'll be thrilled if it's just reading from the book or responding to a simple question. I'm taking her again next semester and can't wait!
Prof Urizar is wonderful! She really tries to keep classes fast-paced and entertaining. She has you write a draft of each composition and she grades the revised copy. I think she's wonderful and I had a great semester in this class. She doesn't care about the written homework in the syllabus, she stresses participation!
I absolutely love this woman. Core Spanish classes can be a drag but she does her best to make it as accessible as possible. She speaks all in Spanish but is really animated so you get what she's saying. She really looked out for all of us and made the class the best it could be!
Blanca is absolutely the best. Definitely cares about your learning and wants you to be able to use your knowledge of Spanish in everyday life. Work load isnt too heavy and tests are average in difficulty. If you need help, just ask her.
Professor Urizar is hilarious, and her classes are entertaining. Her class consists of a few compositions, 2 group presentations, a midterm, and a final. She loves participation, so be sure to participate! Also, if you need help, go to her office hours, and you'll be fine.
I love Professor Urízar! She is so funny, which allows her to engage with her students. She prepares her students for upper level language courses. She cares about the success of her students and is very compassionate!
loved this professor. She is funny but also really cares about her students learning Spanish. There are a few projects, weekly compositions that you can rewrite for a final grade and a few chapter tests along with a midterm and final. She won't let you skate by and isn't necessarily an easy grader, but if you work hard and participate you'll be ok
LOVE. Kind, caring, funny, smart, passionate. everything I would want in a Spanish professor. Goes at a great pace and is always willing to help students who are struggling. Ask questions if you have them! Handwriting on the board is a bit unclear but not a deal breaker. TAKE HER
Professor Urizar is hilarious! The beginning of the class can be hard to follow, as well as her messy handwriting, but if you ask questions she'll gladly answer them. The online assignments are important as well. The class can be challenging, but if you put in the work you'll get a good grade.
Professor Urizar is engaging in her lectures and wants everyone to participate. Makes Spanish easy to learn and the class is relatively easy in terms of assignments and tests.
During the switch to online, Blanca was by far my best professor. She actively met during class time and was eager to teach students. Gives amazing feedback and is VERY repetitive with material to the point where its engraved in your brain. Show up to class and take notes and you will be set. Easy A if you participate and do the work.
DEF BEST IN THE DEPARTMNT! really cares about her students/wants them to have a good time while improving their Spanish! the last class I needed to graduate but I ended up sad to see it end. The course work is discussion based which was helpful for the comps & tests, vry lil tarea. Pay attention/try your best and you will be totally fine! TRUST ME!
Blanca is amazing for 1002/1501 but for 1502 she is a SUPER HARSH grader because it is an intermediate level course. However, she still makes sure students understand the material. Participation is extremely important. Show up to class and participate however 1502 exams are a bit tricky and she takes off lots of points for tiny mistakes.
Professor Urizar is a real gem. She is super engaging, funny and does a great job of keeping class interesting and incorporating important topics from Latin American history and current events. She is a bit of a tough grader on the weekly written compositions but otherwise the readings are very manageable with a midterm exam and final presentation.
So funny and nice, taking her next semester. Easy to prepare for tests, make sure you participate in class and do the HW (it's easy). Only buy the online textbook, never used the physical one. Definitely easy if you study, and a very kind/understanding and cool teacher overall. Super engaging!
Decent teacher, very kind and very funny but moves too fast for an intermediate course. Does not give good explanations and the toughest grader I ever had at Fordham. DO NOT take unless fluent. The homework load is also ridiculous and does not take into account students are taking 5+ classes.
blanca urizar is a literal gem. her lessons are SO interesting and fun. even as an introvert, it was so easy to participate bc she creates such a nice environment. her lessons are super clear and exams are based on practice you do in class (they are not tough) i was scared of intermediate spanish but she makes it so simple and easy! defo take her
All I can say is take her! She made me look forward to this class and I was never bored. super understanding, clear teaching, and little hw each week. Weekly practice only.
I loved this Spanish class! As being a student that has a lot of anxiety about taking foreign language courses I highly recommend taking Blanca! She came off as very strict in the beginning but as long as you participate and engage in her class she begin to really enjoy your company in the class setting! Take her!!
Professor Urizar is the best. She cares for her students and actually teaches every single thing she tests you on. The tests are harder than expected compared to the class, but the homework will prepare you. If you want to actually learn Spanish and have a generous, caring teacher definitely take her.
Professor Urizar is amazing. She's incredibly passionate about teaching and sharing Latin culture with her classes. She is very focused on participation so make sure you answer and ask 2 to 3 questions per class. She's really fair with grading, just show some effort. We had 2 tests and the final. Study about 2 hours outside class per week.
Is very unclear with assignments we have due, very pretentious. Told students that if they got below a 75 on any assignment that they must get a tutor because everything we were learning was easy. Is a very tough grader on simple assignments. I've done well in Spanish before but since coming into her class she's given only B's/C's to students.
She is the most caring professor I have had so far. Usually I dread Spanish class but she makes it engaging. She is a tough grader so you have to do the work, but she is awesome.
She was literally so sweet and cares about her students so much. Best Professor I have had at Fordham so far. She makes it really easy to ask questions and participate because all she is looking for is effort and does not care if you mess up. She changed some of our quizzes if she could tell people were struggling and needed more time to study.
Very strict but cares for you like a mother.
My favorite professor I have had at Fordham. She cares for you like a mother. She cares that you learn, she is passionate about teaching Spanish, and she cares about helping you if you are struggling.
She is very engaging and gave me a lot of feedback on what I can do better. She is somewhat of a harsh grader but nothing crazy. Readings are also interesting, and I learned how to read, write, and speak Spanish better.
Prof.Blanca is the best Spanish professor! She can be tough at times when it comes to grading, but honestly that's how I improved. Please go to her office hours because it will really save you if you're struggling. Be prepared to do a lot of work but in the end, it is very rewarding! Overall, I would take Professor Blanca again!
Professor Urizar will give detailed feedback on each assignment to help you become a better writer. She responds to her emails quickly (in my experience) and requires participation in all her lectures.
As someone who hasn't taken a ton of Spanish, Prof Urizar taught me so much. She cares for her students like a mother. The homework helps a ton, but her quizzes are very hard. I would take her but have thick skin because she is sometimes strict.
Very good professor. Her lectures aren't boring and I learned something new about Spanish speaking countries. She used lingrolearning as textbook. I withdrew from the class as I transferred to Gabelli. If you take notes and work on vocabulary each week, I think you'll be fine.
I found her corrections on my papers very helpful as someone without a Spanish-speaking background. Her lectures were very entertaining and informative as she has a lot of knowledge on Latin America and Spain. Participation is important but not very stressful. I highly recommend her to those interested in Hispanic history and culture.
Professor Urizar is a great spanish teacher but very difficult. If you are passionate about learning spanish, I would definitely take her class. If you are just trying to fulfill the languege core, try to take an easier course.
PSA- I am not the best student. lol I had three 8:30 am classes a week, but it was not bad knowing I was heading to Professor Urizars' class. She is so energetic and explains everything thoroughly. We had fun, food-based projects. She paid close attention to slower students and gave them fist bumps when they got things right. So sweet. Take her!
The best teacher I have ever had in my life. I took her for the beginner and intermediate class, and I wish I could take her for my next two Spanish semesters. Great energy, genuinely cares about students. She gives quizzes frequently but provides clear instructions on what to study. 1000/10. As long as you try+get help if needed, you will do well!
I really enjoyed having her as a professor. She's challenging in a way that pushes students to grow. Attendance and participation matter a lot, so if you don't plan on showing up consistently, this may not be the course for you. But if you put in the effort, study, and engage in class, you'll do well.
She is a sweetheart and is very devoted to teaching, however I would not recommend this class if you are trying to just get by as she is a difficult grader sometimes. She is very nit-picky however you will GENUINELY learn spanish if you are trying in this class!!! Participation matters a lot!
Professor Urizar is a great professor, but she WILL give the most unpredictable quizzes. Don't take her 1001/1002 class (5 credits) if you don't plan on actually learning spanish, because you will actually learn something in that class. So many quizzes, and attendance actually matters to the point of her taking down when you use the restroom.
Prof. Urizar is great! She understands that language courses are difficult and will work with you to make sure you don't drown. The course is also conversation intensive and requires everyone to participate, every day. Don't worry though, it helps a lot with retention and memorization. Take this course!
