Professor Hestiyas teaches too fast, and doesn't explain concepts very thoroughly. It's tough to pass her class!
Mrs. Hestiyas was very helpful if you went to her. You can ask about any and every homework problem from the night before and she explains things in different ways than I had learned math before. I would take her again if I could!
Professor Hestiyas class was too fast paced and there was no way you could learn the lesson in that class period. In order for you to even understand the brief concepts of the lesson, you would have to study extensively at home. She gives way too much homework and her class is hard to pass. I would not take this class with this professor again.
I am a math phoebic and she was the perfect instructor for me. She was patient, thorough, and gave me plenty of opportunity to work with her after class. Being from another country gave her a different view when teaching. It was great. She was very encouraging and I would take another class with her in a heartbeat!
Professor was very good once I got a little more personable in the class. At first I was getting no sleep because of all the work I had, which made the class very difficult. Once time was free, the class became fun and interesting, and she showed us how to apply problems in our majors. Great teacher--currently trying to get a Math 126 with her.
She loves what she teaches and if you don't understand she will stop and help you till you do!
Very helpful intructor. My favorite instructor at tmcc yet! When I do not understand a concept, she is able to show me what I am doing wrong. I am able to ask her anything that needs clarifying and she will stop and show it. very easy to follow her lectures!
She is probably the best math teacher I've ever had. I struggle in math and she was always helpful and would stop and re-explain if I didn't understand. She really wants you to succeed!!
Very, very helpful. Her accent isn't a big deal. She saw that no one was reading the book prior to class, so she started making copies of the notes. See what I mean? Very helpful.
Extremely nice/ great teacher, wanting to help. Homework supper easy. Quizzes you get 3 attempts to get 6 questions correct. Self Study guides are extremely helpful for lost souls. Exams are only 18 questions. Such an easy "A" only if I took the first exam serious I would've gotten an A+. Will be taking her Math 126 class!
Blisin is an extremely wondeful teacher. I'm horrible at math and this is my second time taking precalc. She makes sure that you understand the concept and will go over it and over it again. She hands out a worksheet before each exam and goes through it with the class the day before the exam. If you're bad at math take Blisin! She's great.
She is very helpful and teach slowly in class. If you missed a class or test then she will allow you to participate on her different section. Her accent isn't a big deal when you are paying attention, yet sometimes she is boring, often i fell asleep.
Online math with her was difficult in the beginning but she wants her students to succeed. she is available during office hours if you need help and she does work with you if you ask for help. She has class notes available online which helps if the book doesn't explain it well.
I did this class online, I would recommend that if you take this class online that you familiarize yourself with MyMathLab thoroughly. Get an online study group together and she will help you get started. Mrs. H is very helpful IF you reach out to her, if you don't then you may not be successful in this class. Do well on the tests & you will pass.
She's a pretty cool teacher. Class isn't mandatory, but I recommend attending most of them, so that you don't have to try and learn the material on your own. Do the worksheets, not only because they are worth a lot to your grade, but because they help you be prepared on the test.
She is not bad, but not great. I did not deserve the grade I got, which was a blessing. She is a good teacher, but you have to put in the work or you will be nervous towards the end of the like I was.
Was unorganized, due dates became a little unclear. Class was math lab heavy and test are performed through math lab. Don't get behind in this class.
She explains concepts very quickly & sometimes not very thoroughly; however, she is kind w/ a comprehensive teaching style (in my opinion) & will explain again if you ask. She won't accept late HW or make-up assignments. Throughout the semester I've e-mailed her with questions several times and didn't get a response, but overall is a good teacher.
Claims to adhere to concept-oriented teaching methods, but has loads of mymathlab (non-concept oriented by her own admission) homework. Would have received an A if it were not for mymathlab, she takes off a test if your final is high (so she says), but in my case she did not do this and kept my low mathlab score and I received a B in the class.
Do not take this class online over summer. Blisin will not reply to any of your emails regarding the class. If you're already poor in math, like I am, do not take this class. You pretty much have to teach yourself.
Blisin is a great math teacher. She will go over a section thoroughly to make sure the whole class is getting. Also, the worksheets she has the class do before the tests are very helpful with passing.
This course is somewhat difficult to begin with; however if asked her to re-explain a theory, she would only repeat what she just said and ask if you understood then. She is a very nice women and has after office hours set up. Somewhat of a strict grader when it comes to simple things although she says otherwise.
Miss Hestiyas is one of the best Math teachers I've had the pleasure of taking. I knew the first time I took her class that I'd take her again for my other math classes. She is very helpful, enthusiastic at teaching, knows her materials very well, and compassionate to students. I highly recommend Miss Hestiyas if you're taking Math classes!
Mandatory attendance even though you would have to teach yourself later on. She has a thick accent and answered questions simply by restating what she had previously said due to her lack of vocabulary to further explain. Most of period spent explaining last section due to mass confusion and no time to teach new material, leading to more confusion.
Blisin is absolutely no help whatsoever. When struggling with a problem, you have to ask students to get an answer because she will not help you. The book she used was not helpful either and the software for homework was flawed from the start. Exams are 60% of your grade... Most fail her class. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
worst math instructor took her online and she made it harder that it had to be. she treated study guides like tests and was no help even with computer errror
Assigns assignments faster than responds to emails. Software has problems. Took a math course online before and that one was very useful and helpful but would not recommend this online math course.
Don't take this class online unless you get a tutor. Math software was HORRIBLE. I'm a straight A student, great at math but this was by far the hardest online class I've taken. No visuals online to help with steps. Study guides are basically mini-tests. Did not respond to all emails. Do not recommend online course.
Worthless. Material is vague and offers little help. Teacher takes days, sometimes a week, to respond to questions in discussion board. Called a student and yelled at him on the phone for stating his frustration in the class and then hung up on him! Completely unprofessional. Seems to not understand English well based on her responses. AVOID HER!!
Takes forever to respond to emails or discussion boards which is pretty terrible for an online class. Office hours aren't very helpful if you work during the day. Be comfortable never really knowing where you stand in the class as the grade book is never accurate. Be prepared for technical issues mostly caused my professor.
She does not take the time to explain the material. Instead she ignores students emails and doesn't help her students. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE ONLINE; YOU WILL SUFFER.
Response time is long if at all. When she does respond, it is not helpful. She is disrespectful toward students. She is easily frustrated with students. She gives 10 tests before the final and 3 tests before the midterm that are classified as study guides, but are not available to view after submitted. Her assignments are not helpful for the final
It may take a week or two to get to where you can clearly understand what she is saying, but be of good cheer, she is there to help you out.
She grades hard, is not always the clearest when answering questions, and is not lenient. She has very high expectations for the class and does not accept late work. However, she has clear passion and love for what she teaches, which is really awesome.
This instructor is not clear when describing what the given topic is and that leads to struggles on the tests. Along with this, all that happens in class are excessively long lectures on simple topics.
You need to be in class all the time in order to understand what is going on. She means well and is nice, but she is hard to understand and expects you to understand it. If you aren't good at math, avoid her class.
Good class. I learned a lot. For a class that introduces calculus as well as applies it, it isn't impossible. But expect to work for it.
Not clear in lectures. You'll understand the material in mymathlab but when it comes to the test (the she makes) it's completely different and more difficult than what you just learned. She grades super tough. Though she is passionate about what she teaches and it's nice.
The online homework was fairly minimal, about 30-40 short problems a week in the beginning, but the work was not due the week it was assigned. All homework for a chapter is due the day before each test. So if you procrastinate like me, you can put off homework and do it all for one chapter a few days before the test. She helped me out when I needed
I took this teacher again for 126 after 096 but honestly I'm teaching myself this course. There is are you prepared quizzes and concepts and vocabulary quizzes due everyday before class plus the homework and lectures are boring where she just goes over her notes than does random problems from the book. She can also sometimes go very very slow.
I never got math until I had Blisin Hestiyas as a professor. She clearly explains the subject and feels very passionately about it, which is great. She explains math in a way that allows you to choose your own way to solve each problem instead of giving you a formulaic way to solve it. This was the only way that I could truly understand math.
I loved the way Mrs Hestiyas taught math so much in math 096 that I picked her again for math 126. She cares about whether not you understand the material, and she is very willing to help. I would recommend her class to anyone who has ever felt like they could never understand math. She teaches you multiple ways to do each problem so you get it.
There are only three tests, and they are the most important thing in order to pass the class with a decent grade. She doesn't require for you to use the book, but in order to understand what the class is about, you are going to need it.
Loved Prof Hestiyas! She took the time to refresh on material that some students did not understand. Always made it clear that she was available to help anyone that needed the help. All you nee to do is the homework which she gives you enough time to complete and she gives study guides before each test. Loved her so much I'm taking the Math 126
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR ONLINE!!!! She was all over the place and did not describe the organization of assignments and was terrible at keeping in touch with students.
Professor Hestiyas is a great professor who is passionate about what she teaches . She cares that her students understand the material and is super helpful during office hours. The class is a bit unstructured and didn't stay to the syllabus very well. If you want to learn, this is a good professor. Attend class and do the work.
Be prepared to teach yourself
Overall pretty good. At times, a bit hard to follow, but she is always willing to help after class to answer questions. Don't plan on getting emails returned, so better to utilize office hours and in person questions. Tests are worth almost all of your grades, so you better do good, or you wont pass. Tons of homework. I'd take her again though.
Love her! She cares about her students and wants to see them succeed. Took her for both 126 and 127. Occasionally had to read the book to clarify but her notes are thorough and always posted online. A lot of homework but you have plenty of time to do them. Study guides are super helpful. Fair grader. Only con is she took her time grading exams.
Math 126 is a hard class, but Blisin makes it tolerable. Make sure to ask questions because if not, she wont take the time to thoroughly explain it. Definitely a class you have to pay attention to, and there is a good amount of outside homework. The study guides she makes you do are a pain in the butt, but really do help on the test.
As long as you know what you're doing, you'll be fine. She weights her test heavily!
Very nice, but horrible teacher. All over the place, tons of homework, study guides are a pain and very long. Takes forever to grade exams and get back to you, seems disorganized. Do not recommend this professor if you want to pass this math class.
Not a good teacher. Very confusing, not organized, jumps all over the place. If you are not sure what you're doing, you'll be left in the dust. I don't recommend.
I like having Hestiyas and my precalculus teacher. She gave clear expectations from the class. She teaches by the overall learning instead of focusing on a lot of small details. She will mainly cover the big picture of that specific section. Hestiyas does talk fast; according to some people, I thought she talked normally, Be aware to pay attention
I would recommend to not take any math class online class just because it was hard to pace yourself and it would've been nice to have an instructor to ask questions in class rather than wait overnight for his/her response. I'm sure she's a nice person. If you do take a math class online, note that your grade in My Math Lab is not your actual grade.
Lots of homework she makes you teach yourself don't take this class
When I took the teacher the class was difficult. teacher seemed distant and tests were hard. Take a different teacher at all costs. covers more material then necessary
I did not perform well in this class, but that is not a reflection of her. There is a lot of homework, which is done on MyMathLab , however her feedback and handwritten lectures posted on canvas were good resources for an online class. Be prepared to do homework and ask questions. There is no late work accepted, so do not procrastinate.
I like math but I couldn't finish this class. She's gives a lot of homework. I know people who did 50 hours a week w/tutoring & still failed tests/online homework. The tests have no multiple choice, unspecific language & are graded harshly. If say you miss a sign in the middle of a problem, but your final answer is right, you're docked points.
Heatiyas is fine if you enjoy a large amount of homework. In addition to My Math Lab, notes from the textbook have to be filled out and is made difficult since the notes barely line up with the textbook. You then spend the whole class going over the notes. She is also an extreme advocate of math without calculators and has "no calculator" parts.
She would assign reading assignments, one to two for the next class. You have to read the chapter and fill in the notes. Then you go to class, expected to know a brand new chapter, with very little lecture or help. Study guides are mandatory and graded. She was lenient with grades, will substitute lowest test score with final.
Blisin was caring towards her students and offers help outside of class if you ask her. The downside was tons of homework. We had reading assignments to do before class where you would have to read one or two chapters of your textbook and complete packets on each chapter, along with online homework, and study guides. She makes you work to pass.
This professor was great! The workload is heavy, but worthwhile. I was at average comprehension for most of the class, but from all of the repetitive chapter work I got a 97 on the final and in the class. She was very on top of making sure we actually understood the content instead of knowing how to answer problems.
Blisin does care about her students succeeding. But she does assign a ton of homework, reading assignments, class worksheets (which you never finish in class and become homework) and mymathlab. Study guides are also assigned homework before every test. She tends to rush through material and sometimes concepts are not explained well.
She is very flexible, she does not read out of the book for her lectures. She ONLY uses it to show examples, but does not read word for word. She goes slow and ALWAYS checks to make sure everyone is up to beat with the class. She does hand out worksheets but they do not need to be turned in. It is for your own benefit; if you want to study them
Very sweet, understanding. I respect her and her work. She works with students and genuinely cares about you. She also gives good feedback that you can learn from. :)
Math 126, in-person. Upfront that you'll need to put in about 6 hours a week outside of class. Put in about 8-12 hrs. I did reading assignments before class. If you study and do test review over-and-over, you will make a 100% on tests. Turn in everything and attend class, you'll make A+ easy. Allowed extra credit for people who did bad on 1st test.
The material offered is super easy if you just read and watch the videos that she offers. I think her teaching is confusing so I don't bother to listen to her lectures. It's an easy class if you take notes while doing the hw and keep on top of the reading assignments she assigns. She takes attendance so show up. Good luck and stay on top!
She lecture's very heavy. Her teaching is unorganized. If you miss any assignment or do bad on a test you will fail the semester. I had to be tutored to pass the class. She did teach and help others during class time through zoom but it could be very hard. There was lots of notes but they can be helpful.
To everyone who complained about this teacher you need to revaluate she is incredible I was worst for wears with homework and school, her lectures and videos saved my school life in the end, she is so supportive and truly can not recommend enough.
Worst professor Ive ever had, I have never been this disrespected in my life. Ive had toddlers with better respect then her. I have a learning disability so math is already hard but she treated my like I was an idiot. you have to write down the entire question for the notebook checks and if you dont you get a zero.
Towards the end it felt more like a high school class. Her power trip with attendance was insane. If you ever had your camera turned off or didnt have your mic on she would personally call you out. Her reading assignments were graded harshly and she had binder checks. The amount of time i spent on this class was insane. Dont take this class
She is very rude and grades very late.
I wouldn't have survived learning through zoom without this professor. She is well organized when it comes to the materials, and on top of that, she makes her practice videos if any of us are struggling with specific problems. She goes above and beyond to help the students out, and you can tell that she genuinely cares about the student's success.
Absolutely would not recommend stay away . Heavy assignments even when you are doing a 16 week semester. The work load is extremely unmanageable and feel like shes rushing the materials . Uses cenage for online and theres no help with understanding the math questions. Very upset I had to drop I am a 4.0 student
She is rushing thorough the material and not giving good lecture videos to even help you with the assignments.
I signed up for this class after passing the introduction math class with an A. I I knew on day one that this course was different. The program through Cengage is absolutely not user friendly. When I reached out for help, I got a generic reply to see the announcements. Professor was unhelpful and did not offer the assistance I requested. 0/10.
Post step by step videos of the harder homework questions. Exams almost mirrors the study guides so you know what to study for. Overall, pretty good instructor.
Pretty easy online class. Tests, quizzes, and homework were identical. Does provide videos on "hard" homework problems. But honestly, just practice the problems and reach out with any questions and the class is a breeze. She is willing to help, all you have to do is ask.
Watch the videos because it will show you step by step on how to gets answers to most homework questions.
I took the math 126/26 course with her online and she makes it very easy to learn math, is also very helpful if you are struggling, and wants you to pass her class. There is a lot of homework and assignments but if you watch her lectures and follow the extra help videos she provides you'll be fine.
I understand that students may have concerns about their professors from time to time. However, it is important to express these concerns in a respectful and constructive manner. She was not helpful to provide specific examples of how the students could improve their work.
I can't believe she has such a low ranking here. She is great, and I loved her class (took online). She told me in the first week of class when I had a zoom meeting with her, "If you do the work, you will get an A" and this was true. The tests could have been much worse, and every question on them were ones we had done already in the HW/quizzes.
Blisin is a great professor and I really enjoyed her class. She has a lot of homework but it's not super hard.
She has videos of the lectures, and she offers example problems for all the homework. There is not any reason you will come up on a problem and not know how to do it. She gives such accurate study guides for the exams so if you study the study guide, you will get a good grade. I highly recommend taking her class, she is the absolute best teacher!
Although I received an A it was EXTREMELY difficult and tbh I wanted to die.I took this class online and her video lectures were NO help so I had to teach myself everything.I also emailed her towards the end of the class and she did not have the decency to read my full email.Instead, she responded with an automatic reply that was irrelevant.
The amount of assignments that are given are so overwhelming that you barely retain anything if you don't have a background with math personally. Exams are 50% of the grade with incredibly ambiguous and easy-to-miss-on-technicality questions, READ THEM CAREFULLY. You will easily spend 30-40 hours a week on assignments. nearly impossible to pass.
YOU WILL FAIL THIS CLASS. I feel like i had to constantly learn and cram new information with the billion pages of hw she'd give, only to take the exam and have not a single question look familiar. This teacher makes it impossible to pass this course.
Professor Hestiyas gives all the tools necessary to pass the course and then some. She is absolutely wonderful
