Easy going and likes to have fun. Very easy to talk to.
Most fun professor I have had in college
Made this class GREAT! Tries hard to help students in and out of class. Lectures from personal experience. Brings "real world" to the classroom. I wish he taught more classes I need.

Best professor in the business school.
This guy is awesome, he is the coolest teacher I have ever had, also, the class seems easy but come test time, they can get pretty difficult.
Akin really tries to get to know his students. He never acts above his students. His lectures are easy to sit through, he'll make you laugh at least 3 times a class!!
Very excited and informed about what he is teaching. Makes an active effort to get to know all his students, includes everyone in class discussion to get the entire room involved and listening. Funny guy that brings his humor into the learning experiance.
He is a fun teacher, but he sure does a lot of name dropping. Needs to be a little more helpful in preparing for the first exam b/c of the poor averages of the exams. Overall, pretty good.
This is my second semester to have Bob. He is great. You will actually see him eating lunch with his students. It is pretty hard to get an A, but a B is no problem. Good if you want to LEARN about the business world - not just what the books tells you
Easy Class. Selling and Sales management class consited of 1 group presentation (200pts), 6 two page papers worth (600points), 3 tests (300pts). Lets you use a note card on each test. A monkey could get a B in his class.
Great teacher who will incorporate the real world into his class through guests speakers, skits, etc..overall the best prof in the business school hands down!
Awesome teacher. Tells you how to do stuff in real life. Yes, it is easy to get a B in the class IF YOU WORK! Highly recommended. Get to know him because he's a good guy too. -Junker
This professor is the most charismatic and energetic from TCU. Not only will be lecture on real life scenarios, but when it comes to question time he offers real world advice. And I have to disagree, not any monkey can get a B. Emu
The most entertaining and informational class I have taken in the Business school. It Should be required for all students to take at TCU, you will learn alot about business if you listen to him speak, and the the guest speakers are amazing.
Absolutely the best professor on TCU's campus. Up front with class at the start that he's not an academic weenie. Lectures are fun and entertaining. Brings in the best speakers i have ever had in college. Great class period. Sterling
Wont learn anything in this class except campus gossip because he has no teaching qulaifications but if your looking for an easy B, this is your class. And unless you are blond/in a sorority/a beer drinker - you will be ignored!
He's superficial and close-minded.
Akin is the essence of charisma. Quite theatrical, but relevant. He'd probably rather be outside golfing. Provides real-world expertise with poignant teaching style.
akin is very clear in class i understand at most pionts but get a bit cufused from time to time hes very clear and very cool
Test questions are often unrelated to material covered in class. He is a fun professor though and brings a lot of 'real world' experience to the classroom.
If you are a sorority girl and miss class a lot, do not worry, you will still get an "A". Seems as though class policy is not forced on the sorority girls. Has a plethora of awesome marketing information.
Lots of great marketing experience and information to add, but the class is disorganized. I have no idea how he determined grades. Easy B, hard to get an A. Great teacher and very nice and smart. Fun projects
He is a great prof b/c he will meet with you anytime that works for you. Test questions come from the study guide and the quizes. The project in this class takes alot of time so don't slack on it and ask him for help.
Terrible teacher. He tries to come across as a "humble" successful businessman but in all reality he is full of himself. Don't go to class because he only looks to see if the hot girls actually made it to his lame class. He tries to teach you but you will only learn that he sold a bug business
He is a great teacher. He is very helpful and his class is a lot of fun. His lectures apply to real life situations.
I know the person who typed the 1-17-05 rating. They have no right to say those things. If they would have tried in the class instead of relying on their group to do ALL of the work they could have gotten the grade they hoped to get. You cannot cruise through this class. You will learn a ton in here
Akin is awesome! You learn so much in this class. Tricky test but the project is great. Very real life. He knows a lot about what he talks about and he is not just a professor, he is also a friend that you can talk to and ask advice to anytime.
Akin makes you WANT to go to class. His real world example make it easy to learn, however the test can be slightly tricky, SO don't blow them off! The Project was one of the best learning experiences! He is there for the students and always has a open door (literally)! Great Teacher and Friend!!

Personifies the TCU personality: loves partying, socializing, and being buddies with the fraternity and sorority people more than he enjoys teaching class. Class is easy anyways, just take notes, study them and the book, and you should be fine.
Class is fun, and crazy. He doesn't teach very much out of the book. Akin gets on tangets but there not boring. Quizzes and Tests are easy b/c you get a 5X7 Notecard and can write whatever you want on it. BUY THE STUDY GUIDE and BE READY FOR TESTS AND QUIZZES you'll make a descent grade.
akin's class was great! it was the one class i looked forward to going to. the final presentation was kind of intimidating but it turned out to be a good learning experience and he graded very fairly. would recommend to anyone who wants to learn and have a good laugh every class.
If your not a sorority girl or a frat guy you won't do well in his class. All he likes to do is talk about his drinking days at Tech and about how he is so rich. Sorry to all those who have to take him
Awesome teacher awesome class. Probably my favorite class @ TCU.
I never studied, got a horrible grade...but he was the coolest professor I have ever had. If you talk to him with some sass (in a respectful way), you will gain his favor. He and I still talk even after a year.
Akin is awesome! If you have him, he will become your favorite professor and an awesome friend.
He is sooooo awsome. I meen he is the best. and he golfs!!! wow. great teacher learned a ton. Akin 4 ever
Bob is a good guy. He wants to help students learn and lives by the believe that business is not taught in the class room. This class is new and he is still tweaking it which explains the lack of direction in his lectures. Take him as a professor if you can because you will enjoy it.
awesome guy, have had him twice now. you will learn a lot from his classes and enjoy going to class. definetly take one of his classes if you can!

Pretends to be student's best friend. Gives you little workload, easy projects, you learn a lot. However, he is totally two-faced. He gives an impossible final, which only effects those who are not athletes or are Chi-Os. Lectures go completely off topic. One of those I'm the boss, but I'm still like you guys. Name-dropper.
Okay, for all those that post that Akin is the coolest teacher and that you will learn soo much - its a lie! He is cool because you do crap in his class, he rambles on and on and yes - tests you on stuff he's never discussed in class. He loves to drop names and talk about how great we are. But do you learn anything - NO
the projects are fun, but the class overall is a waste. he cancels class almost every day, pretty lazy guy i think. i definitely did not get my moneys worth. the final was over material we never covered in class so even thought the class is easy, it's hard to get an A.
I loved his sales and selling class. I felt that of most of my classes his was the most informative. He made us use selling tactics in real world projects. Yes it is hard to make an "A" in the class if you don't make an effort. Yet, if you do the work to your best ability than you will get an "A". Best class and one I recommend. Loved this class.
Completely unhelpful. Never returns emails and class is kinda pointless. He has def favorites and if you dont loooovvvvveee drinking, talking about alcohol and being ****, inferring you got **** last night then he will not give you the time of day. My parents are paying TCU to talk about getting **** for at least 2 of the 3 hours in a given week
This was a really fun class. It doesnt really feel like a class room. Bob is very fun and wants the students to get excited about the material. He is a really nice fun guy and I enjoyed going to this class. I would defintaly take this class again
Great class!! I abostutley loved him, made the class interesting & excited to cmoe to class. You learn useful real life information based from his successful experiences. You have to put effort into his class but it is worth it Everything you learn in here you can use in the real world to help build relationships & sell. Personable & easy to talk to
Yeah take Aiken! He's so funny and going to his class in enjoyable!!
Akin is the best! The namedropping was kind of annoying at first, but he really grew on me. The guy is EXTREMELY sweet and helpful, and absolutely hilarious! Just show some interest and ask questions, and you'll do very well. He made a 9am class more than enjoyable!
Tries to be the "cool teacher." A name dropper and plays favorites. Loves to talk about partying and sports, so if you are in a fraternity, sorority or an athlete, you already are ahead in the class. He cancelled many classes and ends ones he does have almost always early. However, he has good advice, great speakers and easy tests.
I know the person who left the 12-17 comments. They were in my group. They brought the group down. Did nothing to help. This rating is not a fair representation of Akin. He tries to help, the project was good. It really helped me understand. He tries to use humor to break down a barrier between studnets and Profs. Will hammer you if you don't care.
Great teacher, but can be a jerk to students he doesn't like outside of class. He definitely favors the athletic and assertive types, but you'll love the class even if he doesn't really like you. He loves TCU, and that's fun.
Great guy, fun to be in class. However the class is pointless. You wont learn a thing. Still it is fun to be there
This class is like having someone read you the powerpoints that come with the book while Fox News is playing in the background. He sets you off on a project that he hasnt prepared you for, ignores email and then grades harshly.
Genuinely cares for students. Don't expect to take many notes; he teaches via stories &conversation. Read the texts he suggests; he doesn't test on them, but they will help when you apply his lessons out of class.Pay attn to his stories, there are reasons he tells them. I have never felt so respected by a prof. His class is the high point of my day
I mean the class is easy and you're likely to get a high B or A, but Akin picks his favorites and it's super annoying. He doesn't prepare you for the project and then drills you on the presentation. Class is pointless but he takes attendance. Quizzes are what will bring your grade down so read after each clss.
Akin is an enigma. He can be good and bad, depending on how you like to study. I didn't like his teaching style, he would tell stories to explain his points (which I enjoyed) but then, didn't give any set rubric to help with tests. Also, he gives no preparation or time to help with group projects. Be prepared to work on your own with your group.
Great Professor that cares a lot. He is really hilarious and makes class fun. Really easy going. If you don't get a lot out of class, the book offers a great online tool to help study for tests. He also lets you bring a 4x6 note card to each exam.
If you want a "B", take his class. If you want anything else...or just want to learn something, avoid him. He loves to name drop and tell stories, but never actually teaches anything of substance. Assigns projects with very subjective rubrics and no set grading system. Take another marketing class if you care you about getting anything out of it.
if you'd be happy with a C or worse, take this class.
Akin is a great guy and I feel I got a ton of good worldy and business information from the man. He has a good heart, but strays alot and gets off topic, it's a very fun class but it ended up much harder in the 2nd half than the first. I was expecting an A- or possibly an A and ended up with a B
Reads from powerpoints and strays off topic. Name drops a lot, going to class won't help. Attendance does not affect your grade but there is a sign in sheet each class period. Tests are all application, so memorizing definitions will not do you any good. Grading system is very vague and up to his judgement in the end. Made a B-
This teacher lacks integrity entirely. He misinforms students intentionally regarding opportunities for grades. Class time is like comedy hour - completely pointless because he rambles and tells jokes. Nothing on the exams are from lecture. Tests are completely different than what he will describe them as. Take this course with someone else
Akin was helpful when I sought him out. His doctorate is in Education (EdD), it is from TCU. Not an on-line program. Two of the 12-12- postings were from the same group, they did not take the class serious. The tests come from the lectures that come out of the book and power points. I made a B.
Haha obviously Akin wrote the post below. Why would a student take the time to correct their teacher's degree. Everything the guy two below said about his haughtiness, ego, and everything else is true. Told us we'd get extra credit or a curve and he never gave us any. Talks about himself all class and tries to look cool. Not a man of his word.
If you like being manipulated and lied to by a tenured professor and barely pass the class then take him. Avoid at all cost, or it will ruin your semester.
Akin is the most genuine professor at TCU. His class is a great opportunity to learn from a guy that has been there and done it. If you are closed minded and aren't mature enough to cope without structure and a good set of notes then you shouldn't take this class and are not ready to get out of college. Akin truly cares if you engage with him.
I thought Akin would be a good professor and I'm sad to say I was horribly wrong. He promised extra credit from the 1st test, when he forgot about that he promised to curve our grade, when he didn't do that he added another assignment after grades were due that actually lowered our grades. I am very disappointed there is a prof like him at TCU.
If you want to fail this class and be tormented all year by a tyrant, then take this class with him. If you are sane, you will avoid him at all cost, and hope he is removed asap. He doesn't help if you "seek" him out, isn't at all approachable, and is genuinely looking to hurt students with lies.
Lol, obviously that's Professor Akin commenting two posts below giving the only favorable comment on here. Akin finalized the grades and I got a B. Then after tons of kids were emailing him about him not keeping his word for an Extra Credit assignment, he went back and changed an assignment and lowered my grade to a C+ as well as 23 other students.
I'm a girl whose a 3.8 student, take her education very seriously, and was really excited to take this class. While I got an A- in Akin's class, I felt that I needed to warn others about this teacher. This guy lectures the whole class off topic (mostly bragging about himself and talking about beer) and then his tests are not related to lectures.
Akin literally went out of his way after submitting final grades to lower 1/2 of the class's grades submitted to the registrar. Is completely misleading all year and then destroys grades at the end. Lectures are so off topic and tests are NOTHING like he promises. Claimed he would provide us with resources for group project, again did not. Avoid.
Useless professor, never teaches in the classes he doesn't cancel (at least 1/3 of them)and gives rediculously hard tests with info never covered in class. Do not take!
Professor Akin is hands down my favorite professor at TCU and the mean comments are coming from people who didn't try, were required to take his class, or were looking for a blowoff class. If you actually care about marketing, take him. He may not be the easiest professor, but he genuinely cares about you and wants to be engaged and participate.
Worst professor i've ever had. He will manipulate you entirely all semester long. Lectures are completely unrelated to class and book, tests are completely different than he describes, and will claim to give extra credit out purposely knowing he won't. However, if your an athlete or sorority chick, your covered. Take him. If not avoid at all cost.
Professor Akin is awesome! Class is always enjoyable and you can tell he loves his job. He is one of my favorite professors at TCU. He is one of those professors that wants to get to know his students and is always available to help. In class he tells stories, talks about real life marketing experiences, and tries to make class fun. Take him!
Akin is one of the best business teachers. Class is always fun and you can tell that he loves teaching. Tests aren't that bad if you read the chapters. If you get the chance, take him!
I don't know why all these people put bad ratings for Akin. Also, he is not biased towards greek life or athletes. He is a great teacher! Class is great and the tests aren't too bad if you read the book and listen in class.
AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I was very excited about taking this class and although Akin is very hilarious, his class is TERRIBLE! He will promise extra credit and never add it and he will promise a curve on exams and NEVER CURVE! His exams are NEVER what he says they will be! DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!
It's sad how he doesn't lecture about things from the book, just himself. I know more about his life than I do about marketing management. I used to think he wants his students to succeed, but now I really don't think he does. Its sad he has tenure
I like Akin; he's funny and approachable. But as my teacher? Ever since The Great Cheating Scandal of 2014, he hasn't put in much effort. He tells personal stories and jokes during class instead of lecturing. If you're looking for a grown up frat daddy who will be your friend, take Akin. If you want a professor to teach you, look elsewhere.
Very good lectures and a simple group project. Very enjoyable class and teaches you a lot. 'very specific in project guidelines but will meet with you and tell you exactly what to do. Only complaint is that tests are tricky. He did give a ten point curve on three of them though.
Akin is hilarious. He believes that the best thing to teach is experience, not things out of the textbook. That being said, all of his tests come from the textbook, so you're basically teaching yourself. You get a notecard on all exams though, and he will give extra credit and curve the exams like crazy. It's a fun class, just read the book.
Akin is the man. All these negative posts below are a little dramatic. He is entertaining, which is a breath of fresh air. He doesn't lecture straight out of the book because a book of information is not going to make you successful. He tells stories because REAL successful people learn thru emulating OTHER successful people, which Akin IS.
Dr. Akin was in the process of getting his second doctorate this semester and that was clearly his first priority. There was little to no effort put into the class. He was constantly tired and cranky because he was so invested in his dissertation. Maybe once he is done he will put some effort back in, but this semester was very disappointing.
Akin give you the opportunity to prepare yourself for the real world. He brings in outside professionals that give you insight in the business world. If you go to class, you're fine. If you have a problem in the class, go in and talk to him, as he is very understanding and will help you if you need it. Bad ass speakers in this class too.
Akin is a great man, he has a lot of interesting stories. However, these stories are not related to the course material necessarily. He gives lectures on the material but it doesn't help for the tests. Tests are pretty difficult. Pop quizzes. Allows notecards for both quizzes and tests
Terrible Professor and he admits as much to his students. Most of the information he gives in class is wrong and/or outdated. Not only did I not learn anything, but my grade took a hit because Akin makes his tests unnecessarily difficult/confusing while also not covering any of the material in class. Total hypocrite. Do not take.
Take everything he says about the real world with a grain of salt, he said CEOs would rather hire TCU grads over Harvard grads during multiple times throughout the course. Studying was pointless because everything on the test he has never talked about. Convinced he doesn't grade the exams because I received the same grade for all 4 exams.
Bob Akin is one of the best men I have ever met. He is genuine, kind, and an amazing professor. His tests are hard. I am not going to lie and perhaps I would advise you not to take this class if you are looking for an A. The point is though, he teaches you SO much more than what you need to get an A. He is teaching you about life after graduation.
Dr. Akin is a nice guy but talks a lot about personal stories in class and does not teach the material much but attendance is mandatory. I had to read the text book to teach myself. Tests weren't too though.
Dr. Akin is a cool person. He has so much experience and has a lot of knowledge to share. He doesn't teach to the textbook but that's where all the tests come from. There was very little direction on a huge group project. There were multiple times he gave us tests with material on them we did not cover in class. The class was frustrating.
If you plan on being a marketing student, TAKE HIM!!! I learned more life skills and made more real-world connections in this class, than my full two other years at TCU. Students often even receive internships after his class because he brings in guest speakers all the time. The tests are based on the textbook, but that's what quizlet is for.
Akin has been the most capitvating professor i've had at TCU yet. His lectures are very interesting as he uses real world examples to relate the material to actual usage in business. He is a very understanding professor and wants his students to do well. The pop quizzes can be tough, however he lets you use a note card for all tests and quizzes.
Professor Akin is the best professor I have ever had at TCU. He teaches you about the outside world and has a lot of actual business experience, unlike other professors that have never actually worked in the business world. He brings in guest speakers often that allow you to network with business professionals. I cannot say enough good things!
If you're a marketing major, I would seriously take him. Yes, he goes off track during lectures, but it's one of my favorite things about his class. He talks about his own experiences and what is going on in the business world. There are 4 tests and a group project. You have to read the book if you want to do well on tests, but it is manageable.
Dr. Akin is one of the best professors at TCU, hands down! His class is all lectures which gives business world experience while teaching and is very engaging. He does go off topic but you will get good laughs out of his stories. There are 4 exams with a final - all online and group project that is fun and not meant to be serious! Take him!!
I would not recommend Professor Akin for Marketing Management. While some students loved him, he was very disorganized and for me it was hard to succeed in class because of it. The syllabus and dates in the class were constantly changing; I never knew when tests were coming up or projects were due.
Attendance is optional, you can legit get an A without showing up to a single class. Very engaging lectures. Only graded by 4 exams, a final, and a group project. Very nice dude.
Akin has great stories and makes class lively and interesting. HOWEVER, he is one of the only marketing professors to have proctored tests. They are based on the textbook, which he does not teach too. For the group project - meet with him multiple times and he'll love you. Expect to do bad on the tests and make up for it on the project.
Akin is not a good teacher. I had an A before his group project that he grades very hard on and is worth 30% of your grade. I had to self-teach this entire course to myself and nobody shows up to class. He also doesn't respond to emails and leaves no feedback at all on the tradeshow which is very frustrating.
Dr. Akin is literally the best professor I have ever had. He truly cares about who you are as a person. He cares more about how real life works than what a textbook says. I don't understand how he doesn't have 5 stars. I wish I could take him again!!!!!
Akin is a great guy. So funny and very nice. Although, his teaching isn't much of teaching. If you want an enjoyable class take him but you won't learn anything inside the classroom. you will have to teach yourself through the book. I am a straight A student and was shocked by my first test grade because I don't feel as though he prepared us
He seems like a cool guy, but isn't a good professor. I haven't learned anything from him, and I teach myself everything. Final project is worth a large portion of the final grade, and isn't during his class time.
Professor Akin is a great guy. He has 4 exams and 1 cumulative final. There is also a marketing plan presentation at the end of the semester and quizzes about once a week. Very willing to help with your presentation.
Akin is good if you learn best from textbooks. You don't have to go to class - he doesn't teach in class besides going on tangents and skimming through the textbook-provided PowerPoint. 4 tests, many quizzes, and a final project. He offers no guidance on the final project
His lecture is chill and fun, there are 4 exams but it won't be an easy A. You have to understand the concept in the text book to analyze the situation in the exams. The group project is VERY IMPORTANT because there will be a judge (not professor Akin) who will grade your project. So be prepared for that!
Great guy. Terrible professor. Lecture is filled with ramblings about nothing the exams are over. Get ready to teach yourself. Class has no structure, and exams are administered on Fridays, outside of class time. Final project is thrown on to you with no guidance, even though its 30% of your grade. The guy does not care. Talks a storm though.
In this class there is no homework, just online quizzes, 4 online exams, and a final group presentation. The quizzes are on quizlet and on exam day you can take them any time from 6am-11:59 pm. Exams are lockdown browser but not hard to find help. His lectures don't help with the quizzes or exams he usually just tells stories during class.
While most people do not attend class, I thought his lectures were super interesting. I think for a class like marketing real life situations and experiences are the best things you can learn from. He does not teach the textbook so you have to do the readings and apply the concepts in order to do well on the tests. The tests were words part.
Class is made up of 4 tests + final + group project. The tests (lockdown with camera) are based on the textbook and lectures - the test is so difficult because he talks about nonsense during class. The project was fun but there should've been fewer tests and more emphasis on the project. Super cool guy but I think there are better professors.
Akin is by far the worst professor I have ever taken. His lectures are just rambling with countless incorrect facts. He is hard to contact /meet outside of class. There are 4 tests and a group project, but there is little guidance and time given for the project. The project is also graded by random people and Akin isn't even in the room for it.
Professor Akin is funny and laid back for this class. We had it in the big auditorium, so he never really knew if you were present or not. He has lots of slides that go directly to the test, so those are the key to doing well in his class. Huge group project of a marketing tradeshow at the end of the semester that work on often. Fun opportunity.
If you can help it, don't take Akin. He does not write his own tests, so they are over things not covered in class. There is a big group project but it is very gray and has little structure.
he does not write his own test which make the tests very difficult even when lots of preparation goes into them. The group project has very little structure and his outline is very different to what he actually wants, but he will only say that if your group meets with him outside of class.
He is an amazing person, not an amazing professor. Tests are really hard because they're not based on book or the lecture, just random info. Most of the answers are on Quizlet. Get to know him because he will get you a job or internship if he likes you. Final project worth 30% of grade and no guidance given was awful
Akin is an awesome guy. He is so knowledgeable and gives great advise. Definitely get to know him after class or in office hours. There are 5 exams (including final), a group project, and quizzes, but they are all manageable. Go to class!!!!
I took professor Akin's class last semester and can confidently say two things. 1) I learned nothing. 2) He's a rude and demeaning person. He claims attendance is mandatory, which it isn't. He isn't open to any ideas other than his own, and puts down any point that doesn't align with his own opinions. If you don't have to, don't take his course.
