I had a hard time deciding who to pick because the reviews of the chem faculty were not inviting. As if learning chemistry were not intimidating enough. I got Bob as a teacher and it proved to work out. He is very funny,he breaks up the monotony of the class with stories,gives plenty of breaks,is very encouraging to study hard,and friendly.

Best instructor I've taken..PERIOD. His humor is dry, but still very funny. He actually wants you to get it and gives great examples. Best chem 4 teacher at elco. he'll take time out of his work schedule to come on campus and hold study sessions. thats how much he wants his students to succeed. but you defiantely have to read the book, and it really helps to do all the helpful problems through each chapter. but i definately recommend him

Altermatt is a wonderful teacher! He even hangs out with you on breaks. You have to read the book. 4 tests, 1 final, seems like we had a quiz once a week but thats a good thing. Tests are long and difficult, but if you study and know what you are doing, you should be okay. I highly recommend him, he's pretty cute too, and he's hilarious.

Bob has a teaching style that puts a lot of emphasis on repetition. Initially, a student may believe that Bob presents too much new info at once but this is only done so that you have more chances to work out the problems. He gives plenty of opportunity for the students to work out problems in class. I left his class well prepared for Chem 1A.

Awesome teacher. I took his course over summer, four days a week 5-10pm... I thought it would be absolute hell but he actually made it entertaining. He has a very logical teaching style that suits me very well. If you pay attention during class and do the problems he goes over you honestly won't have to study that much at all. Long live BOB!

I was not looking forward to taking chemistry at all this fall. However, i lucked out and got Bob as a teacher. This class is hard but he goes over the material repeatedly until you get it. Reading the book definitely helps. He is also funny and tells interesting stories.

This teacher will go out of his way to clear things up for you and though he's not obligated to any office hours, Bob holds 2 hour long study sessions which in my opinion have been very helpful. I took him over the summer and he was a great teacher. He gives great lectures. He went over things a little fast, but he makes up for that by giving us a lot of practice problems. His teaching style is to show you something over and over again instead of just showing it to you once. the bulk of your grade is test. he doesn't give out homework.

i love bob!! he's not easy, just thorough! All he does is do problems on the board and practice, practice, pracice. lectures as well, but understands how to teach CHEM. you can't just lecture and expect everyone to magically get it. He actually teaches u the material, holds review sessions for every test, u can even text him if u have a question. BOB the Best Professor in the whole wide world to ever teach chemistry. He can be a little fast at times, as he tends to "front-load" the material, but trust me, it works out just fine. Whenever students have problems understanding the material, his attitude is not “sink or swim.” Bob cares about his students and goes beyond what he is required. Bob would conduct extra review sessions on the weekend and drill us with examples and counter-examples until everyone understands the material. Bob is the best and I highly recommend him.

As stated before, he likes to front-load the information, but he has a way of explaining the material in a way that it will actually stick. Bob altermatt is one of the greates teacher i've ever met throughout my whole college life at elco. His passion for teaching and the care for students goes beyond and above. You NEED to work for your grade but he helps to achieve everything you need about chemistry and be prepared for 1B.3 Exams, Quiz every week, Final 2 part LONG!!!! as in 4-6 hr!

He really knows the subject well and has many interesting stories to share. I was expecting an easy class but was proven wrong. He teaches the class as though everyone is going into nursing or engineering. If you're looking for an easy chem class I advise you not to take him. If chemistry is important to your major then definitely take him.

Bob is just one of those professors that you will remember many years down the line He explains the material clearly and to the depth needed. He might go a bit fast at the start but everything falls in at the end. The quizzes prepare for the exams. The exams are long but if you do the dropbox stufff youre good. This guy is a genius. You'll see once you enroll in his class. His life stories are amazing. Regarding the class, he is a pretty tough teacher but will really make you understand chemistry. Also, if you're taking the night class, expect to finish your test about 12 or 1 am. No kidding! He also gives reviews on Sundays, in his non working hours!

Altermatt is an AMAZING teacher he has many life lesson stories! his 8 quizzes are worth 5 pts but they are very helpful and 3 Tests worth 100 pts. By FAR the best chemistry professor at El Co! I struggled so much to get a B in Chem 1A, and hardly retained anything. Took Bob with the same amount of effort and got an A. He is the best Chemistry prof. at El Camino College. He is very patient and is willing to help you after class to further clarify class notes, etc. Take advantage of his review sessions that he holds over the weekend and he will schedule 2 to accommodate everyone. Chem 1b is not an easy class , you have to put in the hours to get an A or a B.

The bad part, he wants that 70% student will get B, 25% student will get C, and 5% will get A. final question 1 part will be so hard It is kind of impossible to get an A.

Professor Bob is amazing. He is one of the best professors I ever had. He really really cares about his students. He even holds review sessions even though he doesn't have to. The bad reviews are obviously from the same person because they either wrote the review on the same day or repeated what they wrote. They probably failed and were unhappy.

Taken summer 2022, very good professor. Since teaching a 5 unit course in a summer session he is very generous and will shape the class for the benefit of students. Bob is the G.O.A.T The only thing I have to say is that you have to prepare yourself for long tests so you have to have mental stamina but he prepares you alot, the people who say they stay past midnight dont study. If you can take him do it. And yes the lectures really do go from 6-10:30pm but he gives us breaks which is nice. Overall best proff.

Took this class this summer and I have 0 regrets. Taking a chemistry class in 8 weeks may seem crazy, but Bob was very considerate & made the material easy to understand. He's a hidden gem professor! Grades generously, even if you got the problem wrong. Don't take advantage of his kindness in grading and actually study for his class. He really wants us all to succeed so don't be a TikTok br@inde@d l0ser and cheat his class, he doesn't deserve that for the amount of help and understanding he gives his students.

Bob is a very helpful professor who cares about what he does and about his students. If you pay attention in class, go to review sessions, and study on your own time, the class is possible to do well in. The lectures are very long and sometimes hard to follow but he always answers questions and will work with you on anything you need help with.

Bob was a really cool Professor. He comes off as intimidating, but he's truly nice and cares for all his students. He gives life and career advice. His lectures are long, and he may be disorganized at times, but he caters to the students and what their needs are. He's also pretty lenient with grading which has helped me and my friends at times.

Class is mandatory, you will stay the ENTIRE scheduled time. Lets you stay as long as you need to finish exams plus brings us snacks during finals. He didn't have time to get snacks once so he made a list of what we wanted and went to 7/11 to buy it with his own money. Leaves during the exams and trusts the students to be honest and not cheat.

If you take this class, just know that Bob wants you to succeed. He repeats concepts several times to the point where it gets annoying, but it really does reinforce the material. Working problems on the board was extremely helpful, and it's fun to work with other students. Exams often went past midnight with no time limit in class.

Bob is an amazing chemistry professor for gen chem, he wants each of his students to succeed in his class and beyond. As long as you put in the work in class, you will succeed. Go up to the boards and ask questions because he will work with you 1-on-1. He hosts weekend review sessions before quizzes and tests and he answers any questions you have.

Took the summer section after 1A with Bob. The class itself has content that's more challenging, but Bob does a great job at providing examples for each scenario. There were times where I felt lost, but he stopped and went back to re-lecture. He will postpone exams or quizzes is the class isn't ready so we can do good. Very involved with students.

Professor Altermatt is a supportive and caring chemistry teacher. He wants his students to do well and is always willing to help if you ask questions. His study sessions are super helpful, and his exams are fair and based on what he teaches in class. If you go to his reviews and put in the effort, you'll be prepared and confident before exams.

Bob always had amazing lectures and makes them entertaining and worthwhile. He goes above and beyond for all of his students and had a wealth of knowledge he shared with the class. The best chemistry teacher at El Camino!

After numerous friends recommending me to take him, I decided to take his 1B class after not doing so great in my gen chem classes and I don't regret it at all. Bob genuinely wants you to succeed and offers numerous opportunites to ask questions and get extra help if needed. You can tell he's truly passionate about teaching and cares about us.

After taking Bob for both Chemistry 1A and 1B, it is blatantly obvious that he has both a passion for chemistry and a passion to teach it to others. He does a lot of group board work and is always monitoring the room to make sure everyone understands what they're doing. So long as you do the work, Bob gives you the materials needed to succeed.

Bob is one of my favorite Professors at El Camino. He was very clear with his grading, and went over all the questions if you were still confused during his Office Hours. He was really easy to get in touch with outside of class and always wanted his students to do well. If you put in the time and dedication that this class needs, you will do great.

Bob really wants to make sure that his students learn and understand the material he's teaching. He gives good feedback, he isn't a harsh grader, and his classes have very high pass rates. Drawbacks are his classes tend to be around 4-5 hours long, and occasionally he will go on random political tangents during lectures. Overall a great professor.

Bob is the best professor I've ever taken at ELCO. I wish I took him for Chem 1A as well. He genuinely cares about his students. He made me love chemistry again and has given me amazing advice. He held review sessions, gave us practice problems, and made learning chemistry enjoyable. I'd recommend him 100%!
