Very clear and presents in a way that is very understandable. He is very approachable and makes a would be boring class pretty interesting. He really seems to care about whether we learn and that makes his class interesting. AND he is nice to look at!

He says to call him "Bob" which is like his approach- friendly and personable. The content is boring, but he makes it fun and interesting. He is the best professor I have had at UCSB despite the fact that he insists that he is not a "pro
Great teacher. He responds quickly to emails and you can call him if you have any questions. Midterm/Final are pretty fair. You know what to expect for the problem portion, but the multiple choice is sometimes tricky (worth 50 percent of midterm/final)
this guy's great. best professor i've had.
This guy is great. He is interested in the material, so he is a fascinating teacher. Lots of fun in class, and difficult but fair tests. He constantly messes up his examples and slides in class, but it is not a big deal because some nerd always corrects him and he fixes it.
easy to talk to
Anderson is a great guy, the type you hope your boss will be. lectures are about as good as accounting lectures can be. I felt lost on tests, no practice tests and the form on exams look nothing like lectures. Also, focus the HW a little, giving suggest problems 1-30 skipping 18 is not helpful.
He is a very easy going guy.
Best professor i've taken at UCSB. Down to earth. Rides a long board to class. Tests are 50/50 multi choice/workout problems. MC is harder than problems if you prepare. Very fair. Funny stories and makes Acctg interesting. I would even suggest taking his Hnrs section even if your not in hnrs.
Anderson is a great professor. He is very clear in presenting the material and VERY straight forward on the tests. His tests are 50% MC and 50% problems. He pretty much tells you what the problems are throughout lecture. MC is easy if u read the chapters enough times. Would definatly recommend!
Easy class if you do the work and read. Classes can be boring, but he's been through the system before and he tries to help students through it as best he can. Overall pretty good teacher.
He is a very straight forward guy and tells you what he expects. Class is kind of boring but that's the material. He can be very random and tell weird jokes and stories. He has a lot of outside experience about accounting. I liked his class and the midterm and final are easier than Harmon's.Quizes are not bad if you read the chapter before.Cool guy

A true proessor...probably one of the few that challenge me. Students don't realize that he actually goes beyond teaching and tries to prepare you for the real world. 10 years later i still remember when he told me " you will earn your grade"
Would not recommend!
I don't know whether summer does give an excuse, but Anderson is not being resposible for the class. There are tons of stuff to memorize. Anderson always skips all the slides, and I don't know which I need to study and which I don't. He said the final is not cummulative, but I can find stuff that are from the previous exam in the final.
I had himfor 136A and this class is much more difficult. He says he wants to prepare us for the CPA exam and I think he did that. He knows a LOT about audit and brings a lot of real-world into the class. Not an easy class, but I think it is worth it to learn for the CPA exam.
There was alot of material to know, and he gave very little guidance as to what we needed to study. He did not do a good job in 132.
terrible class. there was no guidance as to what the heck we were supposed to read and or memorize for the exams. it was hodge-podge with the slides being basically useless. take another acct elective
Great Class with an awesome Professor. All the idiots who are saying he didn't tell you what to memorize need to figure it out. He did a great job incorporating real world experience in with the material and really focused on preparing us for the CPA exam. Material was pretty boring but if you went to lecture it made a lot of sense.
This class was not hard. The final was a bit long with time constraint. But after all there was a generous curve. I think Bob did a great job in econ 132. I think we all need to appreciate the fact that he tried to make the class somewhat entertaining while still tailoring it to prepare us for the CPA exam. Great prof. with real world experience.
Cool Proff. Had better, but he's pretty cool for an econ teacher. The most boring ass class ever though
A horrible teacher and suprised that he is able to be a teacher in UCSB! Doesn't know how to teach, use Professor Harmon's slides as his teaching materials. Does not do his job well at all.
Somewhat of a has-been who really can't teach to save his life. Would rather reminisce about when he was a supposedly studly surfer. His graphs and handwriting are extremely sloppy and unclear, and his only study materials are HARMON'S slides. Are you kidding me? Take with Harmon if possible, you'll learn a lot more than with this "dude."
This class is cake if you go to class, study old tests, and do the work you're assigned to do. Bob always gave good examples and showed us step by step how to do each problem that would be on the tests, not to mention what would be on the tests. How much easier can it get? There's also nothing wrong with professors sharing notes, many do.
Class is a waste, half the time he talks about what he did at KPMG or what he does at RAFS. Tests are hard but should not be because not tha many concepts. questions are either straight memorization or very vague application CPA style questions. Says he does it to help prep for CPA but you wont walk out of class prepared for the auditing section.
Excellent professor. Easy to talk to and very helpful.
This class involves a lot of memorizing of rules and procedures. Overall an ok professor. I liked him better for 136A. This class is probably one of the more boring of the accounting classes.
Do all of the old tests, he recycles a lot of questions. He doesn't deviate from it very far, except during the first exam. First exam is hard but after that, it's okay. Do the honors section if you have time, you'll learn a lot of "real-world" advice from him. Do well in the homework, don't write it off, it may make a +/- difference.
Boring, boring, boring. Thinks he's really cool cause he rides a skateboard and tries to wear Billabong with his loafers. Nope, still not cool. Has a bit of an attitude and is kinda a dick towards students. He goes way to fast through the material, beware...
The best accounting teacher I have encountered thus far at UCSB. At 8 AM the class is actually pretty interesting, which is quite an accomplishment. He is straight-forward and very clear with his expactations. His tests are very fair. You'll learn alot, or at least I did. Reccomended.
Bob is the best accounting teacher I've had so far at UCSB! He makes the class very interesting, and he's really funny guy. You can call him whenever you want and he actually answers his phone and is wiling to help you. I actually really wanted to go to class at 9:30am every time to hear him lecture. Also, he lets us out 20 mins early most days.
the first midterm was alright. second midterm was completely different from the exams from previous years. final was different as well. final was hard! make sure you do the lab early. i waited until the last minute and it wasn't very fun. I finished though.
professor is hard. material is easy enough, but lots of busy work. assigns stupid, unclear, misleading project. when you ask him for help he is very vague and just says "answer the question", then marks you down when you aren't wordy and superflous in your answer.

Excellent professor with a lot of experience in accounting. Obviously knows the topic very well & provides great and hilarious stories during lectures. Also helpful during office hours & always responds to your email/calls/questions immediately. One of the few professors who knows how to use a combo of PowerPoint slides & the board effectively.
Bob is good anyway
Effectively uses powerpoint, presents the material in a relevant manner, and always seems to be in a good mood. Unlike most Econ professors, Anderson does not have a ridiculous ego and is relatively proficient at teaching, not research.
Very good teacher. Keeps lectures to the point and uses the board and projector.
Anderson is a huge doosh. He made the first two midterms super hard and the second one was not at all what anyone expected contentwise. He thinks he's hot stuff but trust me, he's a ginormous loser. Only an easy final allowed me to pull out a B in the class. I'd take it with Loster if he teaches the class again...I heard he's not bad.
Hilarious guy. Knows the material and explains it in a fun and understandable way. Its not an easy class but you will learn a lot.
I took ECON 3A awhile ago and now I'm in 136A with him again. He is by far my favorite economics professor. He rewards students that work hard and go to lecture, and doesn't stress me out at all. I love to go to his class and actually learn something practical!
honestly the worst professor i've ever had. egotistical and extremely unhelpful. makes the tests way to hard for the time period he allows. just took the final today and 75% of the class was not finished at his "two hour" mark, so he gave everyone five more min. GREAT. pretty much half the class is failing
Bob is a friendly guy who makes every effort to ensure that his students are grasping the material. People **** about the class being hard because they think doing the online hw guarantees that they will do well. Accounting isn't super easy, but if you go to lecture, read, & actually do some practice problems besides the hw, you'll do fine.
Bob is a great instructor. Just practice prior exams and your are set for the final and midterms
He's a good teacher and funny too. All his slides are online so you dont have to take notes if you print them out. 2 midterms and final...he puts up practice midterms online. there are hw assignments online due before each class. Study, pay attention, and do practice problems and the A should be yours.
He is a good professor. He posts practice tests that are pretty much the same as his current tests. He does throw in some random questions that have nothing to do with the subject and the only way you will know the answer is if you have gone to all the lectures.
For those of you who are considering Acct major, if you think Bob is hard, then i think you should really think about if you want to change your major, because you have no chance at all to pass the CPA exam. The world out there isnt for your guys, go back to your kiddy garden.
this was an awesome class with an awesome teacher
class is hard!! anderson is super boring and he doesn't help much either. do yourself a favor and don't take this class!
he's just awesome.a great professor.get to know the guy..if you think his jokes are lame in the beginning, give him a chance and he'll grow on you. Extremely helpful with questions, go to office hrs if you need help. He's a bit awkward at times, but thats just bob.for midterms: memorize lecture notes/do practice tests.*WARNING:The final is hard.
Bob is the best! For those of you complaining about boredom, it's accounting, he makes it as interesting as its gonna get. Great guy great class, you do need to study. But he gives you old midterms to study off of and if you know them you're golden.
he is such an amazing teacher he makes accounting really easy to understand and really cares about his students. he puts all the old midterms online so if you just do all of them before the midterms you will definitely ace the class. i definitely recommend him!
great professor. Post all previous midterms which makes studying a breeze. Makes a seemingly boring class interesting often goes off on tangents though. Take 3A with bob
I was scared about this class but thanks to Bob it ended up being my favorite class! He makes lectures fun and the slides are really helpful. He explains concepts with real world examples so that everything makes sense. He also goes over concepts constantly to make sure everyone understands. He's also very funny and often tells funny stories. A++
Awesome professor. Old midterms, and power points are online. Most of the time he recycles his multiple choice and problems. Everything gone over in class if you read the book to go over material again, helps. Great professor take him if you get the chance!
Easy midterms- posts old midterms to practice with, use them! Hard final- does not post old finals. Wiley Plus homework is annoying but easy to get 100%. Watch out for the final, he makes it very difficult to prevent the curve from being too high in the class.
Does not ensure that he is on the same page as the rest of the class, leaves you lost hopeless and confused...worst class I've taken at UCSB by far, the textbook is useless (and $)and he attempts to cover too much material. His lectures are EXTREMELY incomprehensible and hard to take notes on, especially when trying to go back to study, DO NOT TAK
he is an absolutely funny guy. loved him.would have dated him if i was older.you can get a straight A by just practicing his previous test. classes can get boring but he keeps you well entertained.
He's a mess. Goes off on tangents for the whole class and teaches you nothing that you need to know. He's a nice class but not a great teacher. Too bad I have to take him again.
did not like this class with this professor
Full of himself
His class is not "very" hard, but you still have to put some effort in it.
Try to take 136A with ANYONE else
My favorite professor and econ class thus far. I've taken econ 1 and 2, didn't expect to like accounting. Now I'm seriously considering emphasizing in it. He has current professional experience in the field which is helpful and a nice change from the other professors. I'd highly recommend taking his class.
He talks about himself too much instead of lecturing!!! It's annoying!
Really good guy. Study the practice midterms he puts up, he repeats questions straight out of his old ones. The aplia homework is easy, everyone gets almost 100%. Sign up for CLAS with tony cipriano, he is helpful. Class is interesting with all of Bob's jokes. I would take a class with him again.
he seems like a good guy when he's lecturing--funny, down to earth, nice--but when you meet him in person or when he emails you back, he seems like a complete ****. office hours dont really help since he looks at you like you're stupid.
Bob is a great guy and a really good teacher. He tends to relate the boring world of accounting to real world examples and makes it interesting. Make sure to take his auditing class.
Bob sucks at lecturing he goes off on tangents and you never know what will be on the test from his lectures. He has a million practice tests on the his website, though. Just use those to study with and you'll have no problems.
He's an awesome professor - good at relating things to the real world. He is engaging and funny. BUT!!!! DO NOT go to office hours. He was just really mean and not helpful at all!!!!!! He will just embarrass you, and you will feel stupid. In class: GREAT! - in person: NOT
Bob's lectures are somewhat interesting. Most of the material from the midterms and test are from the hw online. Just study the book and study the examples Bob gives you and you will do fine in this class.
I like Bob as a person but I hated him as a teacher. He was tangental, didn't provide students with notes that were that beneficial. I would study for his midterms and feel confident only to get Cs on all of my tests. I took the class Pass Fail so it worked out fine but his teaching style just wasn't for me.
he is a really bad teacher. the tests all seem easy, only to get a c. his lectures are absolutely useless
Even if you liked him in 3A and 136A, don't bother with his auditing class. You'll regret it, trust me. Get your accounting units elsewhere.
Great teacher that explains everything clearly. Not the easiest class but if you do the work and pay attention you're fine
He is funny and entertaining in class. The thing that helped me the best was doing the practice midterms. Know everything from past midterms he posts and you will do find on the actual one. The one time I went to office hours he was not that nice or helpful, but the TAs are more than willing to help. CLAS also helped a lot with this class.
Bob is a great teacher. He makes a typically "boring" subject interesting. If you read the book and review his lectures, plus do the practice tests, which are nearly identical to the test, you'll do fine. The grade curve that the econ department sets is a bit of a burn but I really loved his class and wish he taught 3B too.
Bob Anderson is the best!! Listen to him during lectures and do the practice exams and you will get a good grade. One of my favorite professors!
You can get your accounting units from many classes. But DON'T take Bob's Audit class. Even if you liked him in 3A and 136A... Just trust me on this one, it's a terrible class.
Good professor, friendly and interesting to listen too. Provides great examples and makes sure that the most important information you need to know is given to you. Do practice exams and you will be fine.
One of the best professors at UCSB. He really cares about his students and will do anything to make sure u understand the material, all u gotta do is ask! Practice on his previous exams and u will do fine. Textbook is pointless to read so dont bother. If u want an A in this class just show up to his lectures, take notes and practice!!!
Purposely didn't teach 50% of material tested just to get a nice distribution of grades. Students in UCSB don't understand what a good accounting professor is because they have never seen a good one. There isn't a good one in UCSB. This teadcher is a student's enemy. Very stubborn and will not help even if you are one inch of graduation.
Cllear warning. Do not take his auditing class. The competition is strong, and this teacher makes it cut-throat. He's always talking/lieing about his boring life/family. His grading is brutal, and he is convinced somehow it is fair. The teacher thinks he is something, yet doesn't even have a master's degree. STAY AWAY Take loster or don't take class
Very good teacher. Funny and entertaning. Online quizzes and assignments are doable you just need the book. Midterm and Final were fair, but you have to study. Very cool guy, makes things interesting.
Bob is one of my favourite professors at UCSB so far. He's incredibly interesting and makes accounting practical and entertaining. One great thing he does (that all other professors should do) is poll the class on whether they understood a new concept or if he should rephrase it. Past exams are VERY useful. Use them. Midterms/Final extremely fair.
I think I'm the only one who doesn't like him. I didn't even bother going to lectures.I didn't try because I'm not interested in Accounting but still got a B+ for the class because lecture slides, CLAS & past exams are really helpful.
Just like 3A, study the practice midterms and you will def get at least a B. Tip: Study his slides too; he'll put something random from there on the midterm. Also, the final had 40+ journal entries. Be sure to study those in depth. They go back to things covered in 3a so refresh the OLD material. This class wasn't too hard. Study and you'll do fine
Nice and fun professor. Study the past exams, but there will be some new multiple choice questions that are not so obvious. TAs are undergrads and often not that helpful. The class really is not that hard, but beware of the department curve. I hate that. I'm an English major but still managed an A-. I recommend reading the textbook.
I rather enjoyed the class. He makes the topic pretty interesting and is clear in his lectures. The old exams for the two midterms are extremely helpful, so make sure you study those. Final is pretty tough though.
Great Professor and an overall good guy. Appreciated his willingness to help students and is clear. Also a pretty funny guy. Made me more interested in pursuing an Accounting career.
I became very interested in accounting after this course. However, the curve for this econ class was especially ridiculous. It was even said that he had to make the 2nd midterm and final a lot more difficult because most of the class did reall ywell on the 1st midterm and he had to round people down. Cool professor though, long boards to lecture.
Worst accounting teacher I had ever have. His method of teaching is almost useless, his lectures are horrible, and the method of actually studying for either the midterm or final is impossible to actually dicern; studying past midterms and doing the reading will result a C. Bob will likley discourage you from ever taking a carrer in accounting.
A horrible teacher, AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. Trust me, if you really want to get a good grade while majoring in accounting, avoid him and find another teacher. Studied his past midterms, readings, lectures, and I still got a low D in the end. If you take him, be prepared, he will give you a real hard time, and he won't even look at your effort.
Best teacher ever!! i didnt miss not one day of this class. hes a great speaker so i never get bored in class and he knows the material well. although he goes off on tangents sometimes, hes funny and wont test material that hasnt been taught. Loved this class
He is a really good teacher and will keep the lectures entertaining. This class got me really interested in accounting. The class is relatively easy except the curve got me and when I thought I would get an A, I actually got a B. But other than that, i enjoyed it
I really liked this class. Anderson was funny and did a good job clarifying the material in the book. Also, I had a really good TA who did an awesome job of explaining concepts. The class is difficult but only because you need to be super detail oriented as in some cases, one small error can completely throw off all of your answers.
Lectures are interesting but make sure you go to section to actually learn how to do the problems you get tested on. Anderson mostly just goes over concepts but he is a cool guy and I learned a lot from him.
The class was interesting for me and Bob is a great teacher. He loves relating accounting principles to his own company, which is helpful in understanding how things work. I received B+'s on both midterms and bombed the final. I ended up with a C+ in the class although I feel my knowledge of the class is not properly reflected by my grade.
Really clear and makes his lectures relevant and ties them into real-life events. Great professor
Has the worst OH of any prof here (not just the fact its at 7am) opposes helping you study material b/f covered in class, doesn't want to help you with homework, what are OH for then? Apparently only for people in accounting projects who are not enrolled in his class..
i dont know what to say i study every single past tests and still did horrible on the tests im pretty sure i know all the material just by reading the book and learning on my own however he put lots of questions on what he lectured in class and since its an 8am i rarely go so no matter how hard i study by myself his teaching is not helping at all
The material of this class is not difficult, what makes it difficult is the competitiveness. Anderson stresses the subjects that will be on the test therefore, there are no surprises. Overall, A great professor.
I really enjoyed going to Bobs class, aside from the fact that it's 8am. He tells great stories and is clear. Lecture isn't mandatory but Id recommend it because his slides online are pretty dry and it's smart to take notes on what he's saying about them. Intense memorization for this class, no real accounting. You learn about auditing but not fun
Wonderful guy with lots of experience in public accounting. Go to lecture and read the textbook before lecture. Accounting is cumulative so as long as you understand everything from the beginning you will be fine. Got an A in the class (with the curve) without much cram studying.
Professor Anderson is an amazing professor. Very clear and concise lectures. Tests are fair and cover all material from lecture so go to lecture! He is a very laidback and interesting guy!
i dont understand how can people give him low rating. he gives amazing lectures! i get up time for his 8 am class. his tests are easy if you GO TO his lectures and pay attention. i've learned so much from him and its only half way through the quarter. im sad that i wont be taking 3B with him. he made accounting easy to understand! will take again!
He's a cool guy but don't skip lecture and don't forget to read. The exams are ridiculously specific for fill in the blanks.
The lectures are really helpful and he explains everything really concise. He makes accounting fun but make sure not to skip his class because he could say random facts that would be on the midterm. Make sure to do his practice tests because some questions repeat and make sure you know the concepts of accounting.
Makes accounting SO clear. Could not have asked for a better professor for an intro class. Go to lecture, he makes everything so much easier. The only thing standing in your way is the Econ curve, but hey if you're taking this class - you've asked for it!
Full of himself, not helpful during office hours
One of the best... makes accounting fun.
Prof Anderson is full of himself. His classes are boring, this is my third class with him. He is not available outside of his office hours, don't even try. I've had incredible econ professors here at UCSB. Bob isn't one of them
Anderson is a very good lecturer. If you go to class and pay attention, you will learn a lot and probably like the guy. His tests are fair and based off WileyPlus. If you do the readings, a lot of practice problems for the chapters in ORION and practice the exercises in each chapter (Both of which are in WileyPlus), you will do great.
Go to class and really pay attention to everything he says outside of the slides and it will help you fully understand the material. He also says a bunch of things in class that will be on the test. Don't expect much when you ask for help in his office hours; biggest waste of time. Overall, go to class and read, he won't help you outside of it.
Anderson is a very nice and interesting guy. His lecture slides are a bit confusing and the most random pieces of information from the slides would show up on the tests so watch out! He always says stuff in class that helps the kids that showed up that day so go as much as you can. Not my favorite class but still a caring and helpful professor.
Loved Anderson! He is one of my favorite Accounting professors at SB. He is really nice and approachable. If you can take the honor section!
His homework policy is stringent. I tried to turn in typed homework at the end of class because I walked in late, he denied my homework, which, after he told me about the "first 5 minutes of class" policy on his syllabus, made total sense. However, he rudely and unprofessionally turned his back and walked out while I explained I was there at 8:05.
2 midterms, homework, 1 final. Anderson is straightforward and clearly states what will be on tests. Do the reading, homework, go to all lectures and sign up for CLAS. Do all of the practice tests and go to the review sessions!!! If you put in the work you'll be fine.
I really like Professor Anderson, I think he is honestly very inspirational. His lectures are not boring like some other professors. He also has 7 practice tests for midterms for you to study!!! DO THOSE. it really helps me throughout the quarter. I also really like my TA Haley, and Stevie!!! They are very helpful too!
This class is comprised of 2 midterms and a final. For midterms, I recommend doing EVERY single practice midterm he provides a couple days in advance to the actual midterm. They are incredibly helpful and provide a very good indication of what his actual test will be like. GO TO LECTURE, he mentions random stuff and tests on it. SIGN UP FOR CLAS!!!
Definitely the worse prof I have ever had in UCSB. very unclear grading criteria for homework, and he deducts point for turning it 3 minutes late, which can make sense if that's his rule and that is stated somewhere, but he NEVER mentioned that! u will never know why your points were deducted unless u ask him because he doesn't hand homework back.
Bob Anderson was a great professor. He shows a lot of interest when teaching and he tells the best and funniest stories. The class is not hard at all if you show up and take it seriously. Do NOT skip class. I understand that its hard to wake up for an 8am but he reveals random test questions and you can only get it right if you were in class.
Bob is one of the best professors I've ever had. I was unable to attend a week of class, and friends would joke, "You missed accounting?! WOW, you must be SO bummed," but I legitimately enjoyed his lectures, and I looked forward this class. Many thanks to Bob for allowing me to respond with a straight face that yes, I actually enjoy accounting.
Bob was genuinely entertaining- I loved the stories he told in lecture. The class wasn't a breeze, but it was rewarding
Bob is the man. He teaches you what he thinks is the most important material, so make sure you go to class so you know what will be on the test. He also goes on tangents frequently, but pay attention because they usually have some relevance to the course/tests.
He's a funny guy so the lectures won't bore you to death. However, the information presented is disorganized and the textbook (which sucks to read) doesn't complement the lectures at all. He doesn't prepare you for assignments and doesn't hand your work back so good luck figuring out why your grade is what it is. Thumbs down.
Econ 3A is by far the most interesting class in the Econ department that I have taken. Bob makes this class a lot more interesting and easy to learn because of the dense materials. He goes on a lot of tangents, but those random tangents somehow tie back to lecture?!?
This class is hard- bob is a good professor but the class is very competitive and fast paced with a lot of independent extra work expected of you. That being said he is a fair guy and his form of extra credit is that he tests on random things he says in class that are irrelevant to the material e.g. his sons Halloween costume...
Bob is the man. He is clear about what he'll test you on, and is very knowledgeable/experienced in the real world. Some people say he comes off strong/harsh, but that is because he truly cares about students and their learning. The pre-major curve sucks, but Bob sets it through the difficulty of exams so you should receive what your raw score is.
Bob is the man. Clear lectures and very helpful, sure the curve sucks but as long as you study and do all of the practice that is given to you, you can do well in this class. I thought this class was really interesting which i think made it easier for me. Get a good TA and study every week not just before the midterms and final.
Bob is a good professor and the class is pretty straightforward, the only bad thing really is the curve. As long as you study the past exams and do plenty of practice problems you should be fine on the actual problems on the exams. However, you have to go to lectures because he throws in random facts that he will put on the exam to set the curve.
Bob rocks. By far the best professor I've encountered thus far at UCSB. Yes the tests are hard and the curve sucks, but that's set by the Econ department, and Bob cares a lot about teaching you the material. Get into the Honors section if you can - it's a very eye-opening experience into the accounting world.
Bob is really mean. Do not request for re-grade because he would make all efforts to lower your grade. That's not fair.
Tests are MC, fill-in-the-blank and handwritten. Exams are tough but occasionally he'll throw in questions unrelated to Accounting that you'll know the answer to if you attend lecture. Tough class but great professor.
Bob is the goat, best teacher ive had at UCSB. He is kind of strict in certain things, but if you cant handle that then your are soft. straight up
Bob is one of the best accounting professors in the department. His lecture is engaging and thoughtful. Yes, he's tough and strict but that's his way of preparing you for the real world! Awesome class overall.
Course content doesn't always coincide with the text and discrepancies are common between material and slides. This can cause initial confusion with respect to knowing where to find correct answers. Always follow slides. He lacks proficient ability to provide clear instructions with respect to assignments and students are often confused.
Guest lecturer who refers to himself as a professor. Lots of homework and tests that seem to try and trip people up instead of teach them something. He says he runs training program and thats hard to believe based on his lack of teaching skills.
Typical UC bureaucrat who gets a paycheck while not teaching students anything they couldn't learn on their own. Bob creates more work than necessary for the subject matter due to lack of clarity and the amount prep time it takes to study and pass his exams. My suggestion is to avoid him (if possible).
Really nice prof who is great at giving lectures. Class is fair - not terribly difficult but requires you to put in some work.
Great Professor that lectures well and explains what is needed for tests really well. The class is fair you just got to do better than other people in the class. Great teacher though. Highly recommend if taking Econ 3A
Just memorize everything and do the practice exams. The class really isnt that hard. The hmwk and simulation can be found on google. If youre actually invested in the class I think A/A- is very doable. I just think the teacher isnt my cup of tea.
Amazing lectures and definitely worth taking!
Bob is such a good prof. He's funny, blunt, and levels with students base level knowledge to help students understand concepts. If you pay attention to his lectures and supplement with the reading you can naturally learn and ace the exams. Im a first gen student and knew absolutely nothing going in but gained such an interest in accting bc of him.
Bob is blunt, which some people take as being rude. He is hilarious and asks a lot of rhetorical questions that lead into funny stories about his experience in public accounting and his own business. Do the practice midterms, he reuses questions on his exams. Literally just memorize the slides and this class is a breeze.
He REALLY deviates from the topics a lot, telling a lot of side stories. He doesnt show up during his office hour. He makes every attempt to lower your grade if you ask for regrade. The worst thing is that hes inevitable, as only he teaches 3A.
Great professor. PLSSSSS attend class, it is easy points bc he will ask random questions that only people who attend the class will know.
Econ 3a is supposed to be hard, and accounting as a subject might not be for everyone. But Bob's lectures were so engaging and you can tell he's so passionate about it that you can help but let it influence you. He's such a hilarious guy.
He is an amazing professor. Harsh but fair. His lecture is clear and well-articulated. But the class by no means is easy, he'll make you work for your grade. Very quiz heavy rather than exam (class taken online during COVID 19 )
Bob Anderson exceeded my standards of how bad a professor can be. He waste time with useless anecdotes during class, refuses to change grading error for quizzes that weigh 60%, neglects the different circumstances his students may be going through, and makes tests ridiculously different from the usual quizzes making it near impossible to finish.
Bob Anderson does not like to put in the work to make sure exams are graded fairly by using the excuse of the "real world" and computer "impartiality." He can not respond to emails without being condescending either.
He pretends not to be mean but he is an extremely mean person! He gives midterm in a time range which is impossible to complete, never answer your question clearly and tells you to look it up in the syllubus. He expect you to be a professional experienced accountant like he think himself is and deal with real life problem. Worst professor ever!
Near end of the class and wouldn't recommend, or if you need 3A make sure rest of schedule is easy. As an example the average on midterm was less than 50 percent and no curve. Finals in 2 days, and haven't been told the time or platform it'll be on. Says he want to prepare you for real world, but you need good grades to get a job in the real world.
Did not manage the transition to online class well at all. Lectures are double headers, one is recorded and goes over the textbook and the other one is an hour of him being completely off topic from the material. Class average was a 50% on the midterm, he wouldn't curve and its Monday of finals week and he only just now told us the date/time
I took this class because it was a major requirement but after taking this class, I don't even think imma make it in. Quizzes were doable but were nothing compared to the exam. I'm paying money to learn the material, not how the real world works. This class will make or break you.
He is absolutely not caring for students, and he expects us to be professional accountants like he does. Exam 1 was an impossible exam to complete due to limited time. I can't believe that there is no curve for a class with an average of 45.3%. If any class has this average, professors should reflect on the class's teaching structure.
Exam 2 was told two days before, and he never answers your questions clearly. Also, he focuses on a lot of outside material rather than explains the actual lecture material. He talks too much about his anecdote, and it's a waste of time to listen. BE PREPARED TO USE EXCEL!!!!!!
Bob can be strict and mean at times, but he isn't a horrible guy. The homework and quizzes aren't too bad. The first exam was difficult and given in an unreasonable amount of time, but he was more reasonable on the final. He gives out a lot of tips during lecture on how to be efficient during the exams so I would attend those.
This guy is a decent professor but at the end of the day hes not coming through for the student when you most need him. He lacks integrity and compassion and for those reasons Im out.
If you're looking for an easy class this isn't it. The material itself isn't too difficult, but you need to have mastered the material to do well on quizzes and finals. He's very strict which is good in a way since he offers valuable real-world advice, but there is no sympathy or slacking allowed in this class. Don't fall behind!
I took his class as a junior already in the econ department just to learn about accounting and I really enjoyed it. Bob explains the material well and interacts well with his students during zoom. He keeps it real and is hard but is fair and helpful. I could see as a freshman this class it would be hard but once you take other classes its not bad
I ended up really liking Bob. knew nothing about audit going in, but put in a decent/usual amount of work and got an A. He actually made me more interested in audit and I enjoyed his personal stories. The only thing I did poorly on was the simulation assignment, I didn't really feel like there was clear instruction on how to do it. maybe the point
Bob's online class is great! DO take the online course. The homework and quizzes are easy and worth 70% of your total grade. The content of this course is not hard. Excel is extremely important in this course and manage your time well when taking the exams. The above two are crucial to your success in this course!
He's somehow tough but in a caring way, kinda like my dad. Very practical teaching and I am glad to have taken his class.
This class has a heavy workload: normally 2-3quizzes a week plus some homework, in midterm week you have a midterm and three quizzes and some homework.... Also there is few interactions with the class and Professor, all of the lectures are pre recorded and there is no necessary zoom meetings.
There's double lectures to watch every week (one zoom and one for the textbook chapter) along with homework or a quiz due every day of the week. Median for the midterm was around 50% with no curve. Always makes the excuse that he's "preparing us for the real world" and is extremely full of himself (won't stop bragging)
Took this course during Winter 2021. Bob is awesome in getting students ready for real-life accountings. He talks about what he will put on the exam during after lecture time so make sure u stay behind. Exams are never unexpected. HW is manageable. One easy midterm and one easier final. He helps students to plan their careers as well. Great Prof.
Bob is probably my favorite professor at UCSB so far. I changed my major from Econ to Econ and Acc, and once I took 3A with Bob, I knew I made the right decision. He is very knowledgeable about real estate, the stock market, and ofc accounting. While he does go off track during lectures, his stories have good life lessons. ASK QUESTIONS in class!!
He is an engaging professor but the tests were ridiculously hard midterm and final. Most of the class failed with a 55% average on midterm. His tests very a very upscale hard version of his homework. He is nice, but the amount of material was good, but tests were unprepared. Do not recommend unless you need the class.
Great choice if you are trying to get into the world of accounting. His lectures are insightful and useful for exams, which are all online. Does spend a lot of time on tangents if he gets into one so self-studying is key.
WORST EVER
Reading textbook is much more useful than attending lectures. Class time was always wasted by him, talking about his own personal experiences but not the course materials. The exams are hard. The average for midterm was 67%, and average for final was 58%. There is no curve, so I expect the class average is C+ or C.
Bob is definitely one of the best professors at UCSB. His public accounting experiences are really helpful to you. The live lectures are more like discussions and Q&A parts. It is not mandatory but if you want high scores, you should go. He is a professor who deserves a lot of respect and I would definitely take his courses in the future.
The only thing you have to worry about the midterm and final. Prepare for a lot of self studying and watching his lectures, cause Bob decides to talk about accounting stuff not related to the course material. Also no curve so he's cut throat, the average for the final was 146/250 not very good considering average must be C.
Bob is very knowledgeable but prepare to study a lot. There was a lot of work to do each week that you had to do or else you would fall behind. In person lectures weren't mandatory, but Bob talks about a lot of interesting and helpful topics during them, like building wealth. Only take if you are actually interested in accounting and economics.
Professor Anderson was great. Even though sometimes he goes on tangents, he really knows what he is talking about. He was also very accommodating when I had a migraine before the final. He is great!
He spends half the class ranting about whatever he feels like that day. You'll most likely find yourself self-studying for a lot of this class and the homework is pretty annoying as well. If you prefer econ and aren't really interested in accounting, you're better off taking some other class.
Bob Anderson: hard workers love him, slackers hate him. Don't let yourself be guided by the hate he gets. He has a direct personality, and as such he will always be straightforward with you. He may sound rude but he cares for his students. If you reach out to him he will listen to you. Best prof. I've had at UCSB.
Don't take this if you are not an ECON or Accounting Major. For a GE is is a very tough class that requires alot of outside learning. Lectures do not prepare you for the midterm or final. Be prepared to grind for a decent grade in this class. Alot gets covered and you become well versed in the basics of accounting if you put the work in.
This professor took the time to help me individually. He had great lectures and i learned a ton. Lots of textbook reading.
Bob is definitely one of the best professors here. He provided a lot of real-life accounting skills and stories for students. It's a tough course and takes you a lot of time to prepare for the exams. The first exam is on excel and the second is in person. You will learn a lot from this professor and do previews before you go to his classes.
Tough, very hard exams and his exams are heavily weighted. If you have another choice, do not take his class. Even B is a very good grade for this course.
The exams(75%) and quizzes (20%) take up a total of 95% of the grade. I basically learned all the knowledge of this course by myself. You'll find it hard to get the point of his lessons. The midterm is easy but the final is a disaster. Half of the MCQ are about extracurricular knowledge. If 3A is a required course for u, GOOD LUCK.
Course is a joke, more like intro to Anderson 101. He only talked about his personal life and accounting experience during lectures. This course is very hard so don't rely on him. UNDERSTAND the textbook, do WP practice problems, and you will be ok for quizzes. Midterm was a piece of cake and final is about smallest things he discussed in lectures.
tell people to attend useless lectures by saying "there will be questions on the final that I only talk about in class and not in the recording". He's just repeating the same stuff+ his personal life and waste 3 hrs of ur time every week. Also, be ready to have things due for basically EVERY SINGLE WEEKDAY even though u don't have lecture/sessions
He is extremely clear with what you need to do and learn to excel in the class. Extremely fair grader. He orients lectures around applications of concepts and expects students to put in work outside of class. Exceptional practical advice and insight into the field of accounting and connects students to job resources. You will succeed if you work.
Overall this class was not the hardest but final is in a week and not even the TA's know what the format of the final is. Same goes for midterm, went in blind because no one knew what it was going to be like. Don't take him if u can !!
Bob is a fantastic motivational speaker, but a horrific professor. The lectures are hour long tangents loosely based off a question about the homework. Has a big ego and loves to brag about himself. You have to purchase Wiley Plus, which can cost upwards of $100. Prof relies entirely on it; you could pass the course over WP without his material.
This class is a flipped classroom style, which rarely works and definitely does not work here; the lecture time is used for questions and students are required to watch the videos containing all of the knowledge on their own time. Class time is wasted with Anderson talking about his own experiences rather than material.
He's an excellent professor for those willing to put in the effort. Aspiring to enter finance, I value his rare investing insights. Be enthusiastic about your learning and you'll succeed. His exams fully align with the course material, a unique quality among econ professors I've encountered. Went during office hours and he's also super friendly.
GO TO LECTURE! His class is definitely tough, and his midterms are extremely difficult. The final was 37.5% of our total grade, and the average score was a 54%. Its hard to get an A (or even a B) in this class, so I would recommend P/NP if youre able to. And I cant stress this enough, GO TO LECTURE
He's a seasoned miner with ink stains on his fingers from the amount of manual journal entries he has done. He's Jung's archetype of a hard worker. It's rare to see nowadays amongst all these free-loaders.
Bob is an AMAZING & SWEET person. His analogies helped me to understand the topics better, and his insights into the workforce were GREAT. I loved how he gave recorded lectures! The 3A content is not hard but VERY time-consuming. YOU HAVE TO PUT IN THE WORK (2 WEEKLY online quizzes). GO TO LECTURE & SECTION! 75% of your grade are exams w/ NO curve!
Bob overall was an amazing professor! The coursework is not extremely difficult, but takes time to go through. Go to lecture, watch the online lectures, and make an effort to understand the content and you will be fine. The midterm/final take up a majority of your grade, but both are based on straightforward content covered in lectures/reading.
Bob structures his classes in a very inefficient way. So inefficient that it would not be worth it to attend lectures, except for the fact that he mentions random facts in lectures that he puts on the midterm and final. With that being said he is fairly knowledgable at accounting, just not at teaching. Good luck if you need to take 3A for a grade.
This was a horrible experience. His ego has no match. He is not understanding at all and will do all he can to fail you.
Very great professor, makes accounting seem elementary and easy to understand.
While lectures aren't required, they're heavily encouraged. I personally loved Professor Anderson, even though he can come off as a bit mean. He's a great teacher and wants his students to succeed. Just remember to stay on top of Wiley and actually read and watch the online lectures.
Singlehandedly turned me off accounting. Way too difficult for an introductory level course. In my opinion much more difficult than ECON 10A for pre-majors because of how ill-prepared you are for exams. Might as well give you a coloring book in place of study guide for the final.
This class put me in therapy (wish I was joking). The professor's teaching is good once you get to know the way he teaches and explains, but I wouldn't rely on it you should do outside studying. I found that because GAAP accounting rules are solid it is easy to find good videos explaining what is going on in class if you are lost. USE WILEY!!!
I LOVE BOB! One of my favorite professors. He made this class very understandable and if you go to lectures and try you will be fine. The final is pretty difficult but I prepared really well for it so I did good.
Paid tuition to hear him yap 9.30 in the morning. Tests questions (MCQ specifically) have no ways to prepare. If he can lecture more instead of sharing his insights/thoughts in class it would be better. I do like his recording lectures as it prepares students for other accounting courses down the road. He goes off tangent when answering questions.
Very time consuming class, but if you put the work in, you will succeed! Watch ALL lecture videos and go to in person lectures. A lot of test questions are stuff he says in both of these. The TA's were very helpful whenever I was confused on a topic. This is a class you can't cram for, so don't wait till the last minute to start studying.
An intro accounting is not an easy class to teach, but Bob helped me learn so much! I walked in with no accounting knowledge and now feel knowledgeable in the fundamental accounting topics! Sharing his experiences helped me understand what working in accounting is like, and I'm grateful for that. Put in the work, and you will appreciate the class!
He's a decent professor but those quizzes and midterm so far seem unnecessarily difficult and confusing.
I just want to say that this bald man ruined my happiness for an entire quarter. Now my friend, the bear, is also taking the class and he is also failing. Why bob why! Please stop.
This course is fast-paced, with weekly chapter readings, two timed quizzes, and homework totaling four assignments weekly. While the professor is knowledgeable, they lack compassion and appear egotistical, making them unapproachable. As a minority student, I felt targeted, especially when they assumed my background and spoke mockingly in Spanish.
Recommend this class to everyone in the economics department! Yes you have to put a lot of time in if you want a high grade but so worth it. Bob makes the lectures as engaging as accounting can be and is really focused on the significance of learning the accounting language. Utilize your TAs to help learn the material.
I hate this man, nothing he mentioned in class is related to the exam, and his exam is extremely hard and you have no idea how to prepare it. Especially the MCQ questions.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE! Bob's class tanked my GPA and I put an insane amount of time into studying for the final. He rambles about random (boring) things during lecture and his final is excruciatingly hard. Literally hate this man.
Bob is the best professor I've had at UCSB so far. He genuinely cares for his students and often goes on tangents about important things for college students to know that are not often taught (investing advice, etc.). He wants his students to do well professionally and has structured his course in that way. Tests can be difficult, study hard.
GO TO CLASS!!! yes he rambles sometimes but something that may seem unimportant can appear on a test. For the final, I honestly did not study too much (like 5-6ish hours the night before) and aced it, so my biggest recommendation if you want to do well is to simply to GO TO LECTURE. I also recommend scimming over the textbook.
He gives old tests with mcqs that have NOTHING to do with the final so you basically go into the midterm and final blind (aside from final frqs) I attended every lecture and it didn't do much help he just rambles instead of answering questions directly, making it more confusing. Make sure to do good on hw and quizzes and go to section
GO TO CLASS!! He puts niche things mentioned in class on the midterm and final. The midterm, project, and final are literally your entire grade. Practice tests from previous years are super helpful for the midterm but not as useful for the final. Section is SO helpful, the TAs give you practice problems that actually prepare you for the exams.
Bob is very entertaining and class was very fun but it lowkey didnt have much to do about accounting more than half of the time. You talk about elephants, fruit a lot. Personally love Bob, i only learned by going to sections tbh. Your whole grade is basically based off of the final exam. he skateboards into class so hes kinda chill
Easily one of the worst professors I've ever had.
Go to class!!! Really tough class, but so much of the material comes from lectures rather than the textbook. Really passionate and interesting professor, but a really tough class
he was so rude in class and did not really care about the students at all
Chilling the whole quarter, got an 80 on the midterm. Final though was crazy hard, got cooked bad will be switching majors next year. Econ dep just likes to play with your booty. Go to lecture he puts random facts about himself on the tests. Study all you want you cooked either way fam.
Honestly, I don't understand the hate that Bob gets. People say he doesn't teach... but he does. Yes you have to read the textbooks and do extra practice problems... it's an important class for the premajor. Super easy to get 100% on excel project. Just read the textbooks and practice problems over and over again and you'll be fine
He's very honest about what he expects from students. Tells you for the most part what will be on the test and includes free questions that you get if you go to lecture. Lecture was very interesting and I rarely felt bored. This class requires a lot of effort but if you put in the work you can get a good grade.
You will learn a lot. Just watch the pre lecture videos ON TIME and show up to class. Yes he goes on tangents about random things but if you sit in the front and pay attention you will remember it more and he may or may not add random knowledge to the tests. Going to class is not mandatory but I would recommend it.
Overall, this class gave me a good foundation for accounting basics. But I feel like his lecture style will not be everyone's cup of tea. He goes on lots of tangents to answer the most basic questions. Although lecture attendance isn't mandatory, you should go, as he mentions things in lectures that he doesn't in his prerecorded lectures.
Didn't love him, but he teaches you accounting. Go to class as to not miss the trivia he puts on the tests. Class was difficult, but with proper studying and practice, you can definitely get an A. It's clear what to expect on exams, even if he throws in random curveballs.
Paid tuition to have 3 hours per week listening to him talk random nonsense. Midterm and Final take up 70% of the grade and quizzes take 25%. No test resources, the only paper you find on Canvas is from 20 years ago, which doesn't help at all, since MCQs in the test are basically testing about his ramblings on the lecture. Ruined my whole quarter.
Bob is passionate about accounting but there is a lot you need to do outside of class to truly understand the material. Definitely attend lecture to get free answers to questions on the tests.
I couldn't attend lecture this quarter due to sports practice in the morning, so I relied solely on textbook and recorded lectures. Besides like the one point on each test where he drops a question about something he said in lecture the tests are all things you should know if you put the time in to study.
