I make you fail! You study? I might give you C!!!
sarcastic humour is excellent in such a dry course!

great examples, and wants student to learn, wants then to pass, writes too fast
spends a lot ot time on reviewing, wants to teach his students all he knows
Held his head at the board like he was having an aneurism. Hard class.
Very thorough notes, if you study them you'll do well
'You study? You still gonna fail!' But seriously - go to class & you'll get
his bark is worse than his bite
I'm gonna make you sweat. This should easy you guys! This guy is scary, I still get nightmares. Can't fault him for trying to instill you with a liking for the subject.
Easy class if you follow notes
Sure, I'll let you guys believe you'll do good on the final...i mean, miracles happen once in a while . The Math Naizi!!
Class notes up the ying yang! But study them. Marks are fair. He threatens you just to motivate. It worked for me.
He is the greatest teacher EVER!!! He explains everything so you can understand it. Super nice guy too, just gotta joke with him. Study everything, it WILL be there
Would get frustrated if you would ask him questions: did you not listen during class which made a lot of people afraid to ask for help. If you take his class, be prepared to write a lot of notes at a blinding speed!!!
Professor Bector has a poor command of the english language, and moves through the course too quickly for any student to propely absorb the material. Furthermore, and most importantly, Professor Bector fail to raise any student interest in class.
Differential Equations 1 & 2..As in all his math/stats courses, he provides excellent (and a helluva lot of) notes/examples. So much notes, you probably won't really need to read the text. Do his assignments and these courses will be a breeze.
I had bector a few years back and if you like a logical, teacher who centers on actually teaching the material there is no substitute. good on ya beckta!
goodness.. he'll make you feel like the dumbest in your class when you ask questions.. i mean he doesnt even answer them!! All he says is "it's in your notes" even if you go and see him outside of class.. he also doesnt care about the term end r
I really dislike this guy, infact I have nothing good to say about him. I don't find him very respectful to people who have learning dissabilities. He writes too fast/sloppy, he never faces the class when he talks, insulting, hard to understand accent, starts too early, and finishes too late. >.<
do not ever take this guy. he's so dry. he knows his stuff, but he doesn't translate it well. Follow the notes only and you'll be okay.
I've taken 4 math courses from him and you learn! Don't take his insults personally: he just loves to banter. He is well organized, gives excellent notes and knows how to use a chalk board. Always bring a spare writing tool b/c if one faults then you are doomed. There's no breaks in note taking!
I have been in previous classes with him and I look for his name when selecting a course. I find he gives many examples and is always willing to give reviews of previous material.
I like his class and I find it easy because I do the homework. He is a good teacher. His grammar can be off abit though. I would recommend his class to anyone.
I like his class and I find it easy because I do the homework. He is a good teacher. I would recommend his class to anyone
a good teacher
HIS NOTES ARE 'THE BIBLE'. HE'S A LITTLE INTIMIDATING AT FIRST BUT ONCE YOU GET TO KNOW HIM HE'S ACTUALLY PRETTY COOL. VERY DEDICATED TO HIS STUDENTS
wonderful professor! great notes!!!
a good prfs.do the homework get good marks
My favorite prof by far! He's the nicest guy...don't ask stupid questions, and do your homework. Study the proofs on the sample tests he hands out, and say the bedtime prayer he gives you. LOL! He had a great sense of humor. Word of advice: Learn to copy off of what he says and not the board.
Dont talk in class or you will become his worse enemy. Gives u the option of using your final exam grade for your final score. pretty easy. This guy is intense.
Dr. Bector explains everything extremely well. I could not see anybody getting lost in his class. My only complaint is that some students may find his explanations are too lengthy.
This guy sucks.
This guy is the world's greatest math prof in the history of analytical thought.I had him for first year calculus and he is tough, fast, and to the point, and he takes no guff from anyone. You better pay attention and you better do your homework. If you want to learn, this guy can teach. It's been years and I can still remember all my proofs. Thank
Your hand will get sore from all the examples you are going to be writing but he really knows what he is teaching. I don't think i even saw his face the entire year.
Mr. Bectors a great prof. Very helpful and wants to see all the students do well. His lecture notes are very clear. Do the h/w and attend the tutorials and you'll ace the course. He's also pretty open and easy to talk with.
Very example packed. Tests are identical (Same style questions) every year. Follow examples, you'll do well.
Fast, to the point, seems like a tough guy but if you go to his labs and do the h/w he will be more than willing to help you out. Totally pushes his students, will be your best buddy if you try! Lots of dry humour, which is just hilarious.
funny and kind of rude
Worst class/experience I've had in university, if you can, get another rpof.
He is not a very good univeristy prof., but he is a very good high school prof. especially for ESL students. He writes 95% of his saying on the board. Therefore, you won't miss anything.
It seems overwhelming, but he is fair. And while some might say its boring, I dont think anyone could make statistics explosively exciting. All in all, a good and fair professor.
Most amazing calculus prof ever. Even if you haven't taken calc in high school his notes are so clear and better than the text book. They only way to fail his tests is to not study, they are simple and he even gives out the previous tests from last year which are the same but with different numbers. For anyone who has to take calc take his class.

Great for taking a class "like a pill", with the intent on passing as quickly as possible so the material can be forgotten. Is informative. Personality like a black hole: sucks out all the joy from a class. Not recommended for people who love the material.
as long as you actually do the homework ( which i failed to do alot of it) you will get a good mark, the examples he uses in his class are identical to the ones on his tests. h/w questions are easier than the ones on the test.
Get comfortable because this guy always starts 5 minutes early and ends 10 minutes late. Be prepared to write the entire time, you probably will never even see his face, this guy stops for nothing. And don't ever speak in his class! Watch out, he says he'll get you on the test and he probably will. Advice for him, take an education class..
You will only hate him if you take his comments to heart. Once you understand what he's saying, you'll never get another teacher with so many examples. Sometimes he will make a comment and you'll stop and realize he was making a joke. He tries to get the class involved but if no one answers his questions he has some sort of retort.
He is insane. Keeps class interesting and always gives you a million examples but he always starts 5 minutes early and you write non stop. If you miss a class be prepared to copy out 10 pages of notes. Literally. But if he says it's on the test it is. And he rarely changes his proofs from the example tests to the actual test. just PAY attention!!
He is an Excellent prof he uses lots of examples always willing to help starts 5 minutes early and finishes 10 let their is nothing to say bad about him
I highly recommend taking his 6 credit Linear Algebra course. It is well explained with the most detailed notes I've ever seen. The tests are pretty easy only if you study (try to UNDERSTAND the proofs-don't memorize, there are too many!!).Prioritize on proofs, seriously, that is the most important thing(it's usually 50% of your mark on each test).
Cannot understand anything he says, although he writes everything he says on the board, trying to figure out what he is saying is another story. Very rude. Worst class I have ever had
"you shuuuld noe dis from high skooool" k buddy i didn't memorize my notes from grades 9-12 in highschool cut us some slack, he is a good teach with his examples but he could do better on reviews of previous knowledge
This guy knows his stuff. I understand that some people will not like this prof because he is somewhat old fashioned. I thought he was ok at first but as the course progressed I realized this guy is great. Best office hours of any prof, gives out samples of old tests for practice; what other prof does that? Do the homework guys.
"Keep eye on dat...Anything goes...Got to know your definitions...Math is not add/subtract...We still have 3 minutes, I'm still getting paid...They don't pay us overtime you know...It's just a test, not the end of the world - I saw that movie 2012, didn't like it."
I dropped this class before I could fail it. Horrible proffesor
Best professor I've had in two years of study! This man is a teaching genious, and tests fairly. You will have to put in a lot of work, but you will be rewarded with a good grade. Extremely detailed notes. Plus, he's hilarous! Finally, "It's like learning a new languge i mean! gotta keep eye on dat!"
He tutored me for one session and I learned more from him than the whole term of lectures. He is an amazing tutor. I would recommend him as a prof. too. Don't miss out on this one!
Regurgitates the material like a supercomputer. Is very helpful outside of class. You have to work VERY hard, but his tests are fair. Also allows you to weigh the final exam the highest. Seriously, WORK HARD.
Awesome professor! Always willing to clarify concepts in class or during office hours. His tests are very fair. There is a lot of homework in this class, but if you work hard, you will do just fine.
the best u'll ever have
Intro Calc! I wasn't sure if I'd be able to learn through his thick accent but it turned out to be quite easy, he relates to Andrew B-S's class frequently so you can study with friends across sections and he gives you tons of work to practice. Impressive intelligence. Ask him too calculate root of 2 and see for yourself.
Into Calc 1101! Bob is the greatest. Writes a lot of notes.. wouldn't recommend missing any classes. Gives tons of textbook problems.
Amazing teacher and person! It takes a couple weeks to get used to his teaching but eventually you realize his notes are very well structured and cover everything you need to know. He has longer office hours than any other teacher i've had and is more than willing to help. This guy is also hilarious, definitely making classes interesting.
Fav prof I've had so far. You write notes the entire class, but they're really useful. Tests are similar to practice tests he hands out, so study those and you should do fine on the tests.
He is the man!
Had him for 6 credits of stats. Prepare to write a LOT of notes. He prepares you really well for the final: he shows his students so many examples and provides extremely detailed notes, as well as practice tests and exams.
Bector is a polarizing figure. You will love him or hate him. To love him, you need a thick skin, and an ability to laugh at what he says and not take it to heart. He "burns the chalk" so be at class on time and be ready to write like crazy. I've found that if you just listen to what he says and write that, you will get all the notes.
the best, best, best prof ever. good notes, great explanations, lots of examples. if you do your homework what he assign, you get A+
Great prof. Take calc with him and you'll find that his voice and awesome quotes are in the back of your mind all the time ("See you can do it one line! What do you do with this Numinator? Anyone have the answer? I'll give bonus mark!)
Best prof ever!!!! He will be direct and don't get offended to what he says. Do your homework and you will get an A+
great prof.
Lots of notes, but very clear on what is on tests and exams. His subtle humour makes class interesting.
If you can get past his odd sense of humour, he is very helpful if you have any questions, and willing to go over things with you repeatedly until you get it. Do every practice question & practice exam he gives out as his tests are very similar year after year. Also, put a spare if you can after his class as he goes on overtime almost every day.
Great one liners
A ton of notes and examples in his lectures so always come to class ready to write. It may seem like he is going very fast in class but as long as you get everything down and reread the notes after you will realize that they are very clear and make a lot of sense. He gives examples for everything that you need to know but still practice lots!!
Bector is by far my favourite prof by far at the U of W. His sense of humour makes class enjoyable. He does burn the chalk, but it's university, so get used to it. Homework assigned is for your own good, never for grades. Tests are easy if you pay attention in class and do your homework. "You've got to get your hands dirty!"
Prof. Bector seems harsh, but he is funny and very helpful if you ask the right questions (don't just ask him to do a question for you, ask something specific!). If you do the homework and get it all right, you're golden. Pay attention in class and don't be on your phone! He will call you out on it, and it's rude to do in general.
Bector is perhaps the best Math and Stats prof out there! Rumor has it that he might be retiring soon, so take a class with him! Show up, get the handouts (put your phone away) and pass what might have seemed to be a hard class!
The large amount of homework assigned, the need to attend class, and the long lectures are characteristics of any calculus class, I feel. If you don't have the time or energy to put effort into this subject, you won't do well. However, if you do, Prof Bector is weird and wonderful, passionate and incredibly helpful, and a good choice for intro calc
Bector's a pretty chill teacher if you can handle the class and him. His teaching is essentially 100% chalkboard, so get ready to take notes and do a lot of examples. He'll call out the class when you don't respond to his questions, but its nothing serious and you don't need to answer(unless you know it): its part of his humor.
He doesn't use Nexus and everything is written on the chalk board
I took several math courses with Professor Bector in the early 90's! I still remember him very clearly. Lots of note taking, lots of examples, lots of overtime lectures, very strict on lab attendance and he also knew every student's name because he studied out student card photos. Learned a lot, he is passionate about teaching and mathematics.
Be ready to take lots of notes because its all chalkboard writing. He will call you out if you're not writing the notes down or if you're on your phone. He always complains that the students don't do their homework and he always says "don't worry ill get you on the test" which is terrifying every time. Don't think id take another class with him.
Bector provides students with all the resources and examples needed in order to do well in the class, but it is up to the student to do the homework in order to get a good grade. (As is with most classes). Although his teaching style first comes off as quite intense, he truly wants his students to succeed.
really care about teaching and learning. he starts his lecture five minutes before the class by reviewing what he taught in the last one. very strict in the class, so please dont play your cellphone or talk to others, and remember to take notes all the time if you dont want to be called upon. easy tests if you have his handouts and notes.
Bector is a good professor - as long as you attend lectures and write his notes! Expect a lot of assigned homework from the textbook (not for marks) but are very beneficial. He is very strict - so, don't use your phone or sleep during class - he WILL pick on you for the answer. . And he doesn't use Nexus - he writes on a chalk board.
He writes faster than you can take notes and doesn't stop until the class ends. Notes will not be posted online and he rarely goes over what he writes. If you don't show up, you will miss important notes and do poorly. Get ready for your hand to hurt by the end of each class, and hope someone asks a question so he will pause for a few seconds.
Try to avoid this prof if you can. He doesn't use nexus and he only writes on the chalk board and in cursive. He writes everything down going 90 mph and doesn't stop once, so you'll be trying your best to catch up on what he's doing/saying. he doesn't give you time to think out the questions, so its hard to soak in any information he gives you.
Writes notes very quickly so be prepared for that and always come to lectures. Notes and examples are simple and very easy to understand and he would clarify if asked. Tests can be easy if you study the notes and do the questions on the textbook. Overall, a great and caring professor for statistics who wants his students to do well.
Gives tons of examples, which are easy to follow. The assignments and test questions are usually carbon copies of examples from class with the values and names changed, so if you take notes, it will be very easy to complete assignments and study. Be aware that tests and the exam make up 90% of your grade. Very helpful outside of class as well.
Gives a ton of examples. His tests and exams can be quite hard but if you are willing to put in lots of studying time and go ask him questions then you will be okay. He is also quite a sassy badass.
Bector is a great prof. He's is very intense and intimidating but once you he gets to know you, he'll joke around. He doesn't use nexus so all the notes are hand written on the board so you have to go. He goes over tons of examples and will always assign questions from the textbook for homework. If you work hard and do the questions you'll be fine.
Writes everything on the board and does it very quickly so you have no time to make your notes pretty and doesn't put his lectures on Nexus. Gives a lot of examples and assignments. Examples and lectures get really confusing, especially proofs, since he makes a lot of errors making example answers questionable. Only take him if you are a math major
Bector is one of my favourite prof. He can be scary at times, calling out people during class & such but he knows what he's doing. He does a ton of examples during class and doesn't post any of the notes on nexus so you have to attend his class to pass. His midterms are fairly easy because he gives out sample midterms from the previous yr.
My notebooks were filled because he writes excessive lecture notes (e.g. problems w/ solutions). Loved his class! Explains clearly when students have questions. Be prepared to study a lot (e.g. probability, statistical bell graphs, algebra, proofing). Write fast & quickly! Work on prof.'s recommended textbook problems. They will help you on exams!
Bector was a solid Professor. I had him 2 years ago, and his lectures provided me the foundations to grasp concepts in my major quickly. His lectures are amazing, and he teaches the concepts from the ground up. His exams aren't difficult, but you will be stressed for time. Practice his problems, and time yourself in the practice exams he provides.
I took both Stats and Calc with Bector. He is very predictable with his exam but they can be difficult. Doing the problems he assigns and the review test he gives out is necessary. Go to class, take notes and don't look at your phone .
He does NOT post his notes online or allow you to take pictures of the board. I struggled to write notes fast enough to keep up with him. I came out of every class not understanding my notes until I re-read them afterwards and cross-referenced with the textbook. Aside from that, the tests and exams are very similar to what you go over in class.
Bector is a great prof for a very straight forward first year Stats class. Doesn't post any lectures on Nexus so coming to class is crucial. Does tons of examples and assigns a bunch of practice problems from the text (Which I feel is not necessary). One thing is he writes incredibly fast so you must reread notes and do practice to get a good grade
Lectures are fast paced, writes extremely fast. Doesn't post notes online. Provides many examples in class and gives sample exams (textbook isn't necessary imo)Everything in notes is fair game, so learn definitions and concepts too. Favorite Bob quotes: "I'll get you on the final" "You got to get your hands dirty" "Then the calculator does the job"
Worst Professor I have ever had. Does not use nexus all notes are taken down in class. His notes go super fast and he does not talk loud or clearly so you don't understand what he is saying or what the notes mean. When you ask questions he mumbles around the answer then continues his lecture without seeing or asking you if you understand. AVOID!!!
Runs a tight ship. No talking. No nonsense but is very capable. I like him.
He is a really thorough teacher who provides a lot of examples that are helpful. Wants you to do well. Doesnt use Nexus. intimidating (at first), strict, goes VERY fast. Explanations can be confusing; reread notes! You dont have to do all the hw he assigns but at least do the online q's and the practice tests. Dont want to be coldcalled? Dont talk.
Gives very detailed notes to copy. Gives lots of practice problems and variety of examples to feel prepared for anything the test throws at you. Expects students to come to class to receive handouts and old tests to study. Slightly rude and is uptight about phone usage or napping during class, singling you out embarrassingly! But teaches amazingly!
Lecture heaaaavy. Slightly comical. Will answer any questions. Does not post lectures, I found helpful for "not a Math person". Attend classes, take notes (no pictures), and practice the exercises. Spring term not recommended for those who can't swim in the homework you will be drowning in.
So much to copy in class but its because hes regularly referring to and rewriting PREVIOUS definitions so its obvious how material from before has BUILT up to newer concepts. Brilliant and wish more profs enforced this style. 5 for difficulty because he is rude and hates the internet - dont even ask for missed notes lol. Tests were very fair.
I really liked Professor Bector, There is a lot of notes, so you don't really have time to process the information until you re read your notes. There are 2 midterms and a final. I found the midterms to be fair but the final took me by surprise and not in a good way. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't go to class you miss the notes.
I love professor bector! His lectures are built on material as the term goes on, no online notes so be prepared to to write. He answers questions in class and makes sure you get it before moving on. He is extremely fair with his tests considering he reminds you again and again to practice the material.
Lectures are amazing, tests/exams are 100% fair as he gives you tests/exams that were used last term so predicting questions will be easy. Uses nexus for test/exam solutions and practice problems to try out. Notes are very helpful and easy to follow, as long as you don't skip class as he doesn't provide notes to those who miss class. Overall amazin
takes his time in class and writes notes using chalk, no slides. If you miss one class you can easily fall behind especially if you don't have access to a good note taker. He gives out a lot of practice problems and midterms, and assigns textbook Q's. do them in combination with some youtube vids and ur set. really nice and accommodating.
Horrible at explaining. Moves at the speed of light and expects you to understand his horrible explanations. He gets offended when you ask questions and doesn't answer them instead telling you that you should "already know this" and "do it in your own".
U of W should be ashamed to have a professor like this. He explains ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. He goes through the lecture reading his slides word for word then does calculations faster than your brain will understand with little explanation. He also is not respectful if you ask him any questions at all. I would never recommend taking his class.
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, I believe his method of teaching suffered greatly. He is a good professor in a lot of aspects but if you are struggling with online learning, he will not make it easier. I'm positive his class would be worthwhile in person however it is a tragedy online.
I took his Calc1101 a year ago. It was easy as long as you come to class. Don't be afraid to ask for help. He's very nice. He wants you to succeed in his class, and if he sees that you're not, he tries his best to help you. His lectures goes by very fast, so make sure to reread over your notes outside of class. Overall, Prof Bector is a good Prof.
The online lectures are almost entirely a waste of time. Would have an easier time teaching yourself from the text, which most of his lecture was just rewriting the textbook anyway just with more typos. Didnt have a single graded assignment or any feedback other than the midterm. Cant believe I paid for this.
Do you really want to learn calculus? This is the guy you want. Prof. Bector knows what he is doing and delivers amazing lectures. He knows what concepts are conceptually interesting. He sets a very high standard for his students and wants them to succeed. You may not like him first, but that will change. No assignment but a lot of practice problem
Prof. Bector knows what he is doing and delivers amazing lectures. He does lots of examples and let you see how he thinks and solves a problem. He sets a very high standard for his students and wants them to succeed. He doesn't try to be relatable to students, but he truly cares about them. There is no assignment but a lot of practice problems.
He's kind of funny, but his lectures are hard. It looks like he doesn't like computers as he never uses presentations, notes or textbook material, he just writes everything on the board and you just try to keep up trying to copy everything what he writes. I had to read everything from the textbook on my own to understand at least something.
Go to class, copy down everything he writes on either chalkboard or zoom. That plus the additional homework problem packages and previous sample exams, will be more than sufficient to prepare you for his exams at a high level. This is easier than stats 1301 cause of probability. Complaints on not being able to understand him are a stretch.
Amazing human being.
