hes alright for a chem prof.
Amazing prof!
The best prof I've ever had.....makes himself totally available to his students
BEST CHEM PROF EVER. Never liked Chemistry untill Bob showed me the way.
Bob is the best prof I have seen so far here at Carleton. He makes himself totally available for help and explains even the little trivial things if you ask him to. He doesn't make you feel stupid when you ask a dumb question either. GO BOB!
Hes the best prof I have this year. I hate chem but he makes it fun. He more eloborate then most profs and always replys to emails the same day they are sent. A little cocky but in a healthy way I would say. Great guy!
CHEM never ever interested me until i took his class! He teaches with clarity and confidence and actually cares about the successes of his 500 + students. I just love him!! Hey, chem isn't too bad afterall...
Took the course 7 years ago. Inspired me to major in chemistry (i had been a bio-major)! He is a definite asset to the department.
He's the man. Respect him.
This guy makes getting irradiated with uranium sound cool... damn him...
A really great guy. He knows what he talking about, and he enjoys what he's doing. It's one of my favorite classes.Having the previous midterms posed, doesn't hurt either.
He's interesting and funny
Knowledgable and entertaining. An excellent teacher. Wish I had him when I took chem 1000
From his web page to MSN, he has made himself totally available. Pretty funny guy too.
Wow, Bob Burk is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He is great at clearly explaining hard concepts and keeping the class fun! I love this guy!
Entertaining class despite its size, when I approched him with a question, he was rude, I ended up dropping his class.
In the history of my many years of schooling Burk is my #1 professor. The tests are fair and can be done well with adequate study, but most important, he will give you the shirt off his back if it means helping you to understand his subject matter.
not many profs invite you to add them to your msn just to make sure they can answer your questions! way to go bob!
Hey, Bob, we love ya Man!
Bob Burk was the most dedicated interesting teacher I ever had the pleasure of being tought by! Thanks Bob.
You da MAN
Bob is the best PROF! he makes chemistry soo interesting and not boring! Very very helpful and loves to help the students! BOB is such an WONDERFUL AND CARING PROF! the best part is that he even goes on MSN to help students about chemistry! ^_^!
A very enthusiastic and helpful prof.
I definitely loved and made time to go to this class ... and I was registered as ITV! His ways of explaining things were interesting and [most of] his midterms were fair. He's made everything available to his students (web page, msn, etc.). You rock, Bob.
Not very approachable, its either his way or no way. Good teacher, I just don't like his attitude when talking to him.
His class was ****ing useless, I only went because I liked to watch him pretend to be a TV host. I learned everything out of the text book.
This guy is the reason I am now a Physics Major. Hates to answer questions, it seems. Basically I am unimpressed!
He is very fair in his tests. I didnt do the most work on his assignments so when it came time to write the tests my marks were weak. He was very helpful and even gave out his MSN address in case we had questions while studying at home.
Very good explanations with the amount of details that is just right. Very organized and goes to a great length to help students. Exams are not easy, but not too hard. Lab portion of the course (not controlled by Bob) is a different story.
Hey rocks
good stuff bob!
Oh snap....Bob is the shizznat....best prof ive had so far.....some how makes chemistry funny and interesting
great prof! makes chemistry interesting. goes out of his way to be helpful: excellent website, goes on msn, writes great reference letters!
Great class!
Bob is an amazing professor. He cares about how his students do, and tries to make it easy by giving us tons of resources. His experiments and sense of humour make the class fun and interesting. i actually enjoyed going to class.
You will never find a better professor in you university life! Unfortuneately, you will be disappointed in second year...wehne you find out that Bob is unique...and there are no good professors compared to him. SO get what you can form him now.....because you'll never have as great of a prof EVER.
Great proff. Talks on MSN frequently.
only class that was semi enjoyable in first year
A great professor, wonderful.
Awesome prof. Lots of fun to listen to. Fun demos.
I am now studying at Dalhousie. I miss this guy he was great and made the chem department that much better. Now I have better labs but lots of profs who really need and attitude ajustment. If they were like Bob the department would be awsome and full of life. He is a bench mark for greatness
Excellent prof..
funny, love the stories
Prof. Burk is great, precise and clear. His notes reflect the subject very well. he analyzed the course for excellence when you study and follow up with the course..extra hours he will take to help a student until you know what the course is about.excellent prof.RECOMMENDED
amazing teacher, very funny
He tells you exactly what to do to get an A+ and will bend over backwards to help his students. He doesn't tolerate laziness though.
I love Bob. He's the best prof first year and really makes chemistry enjoyable. He was so helpful on MSN and during office hours etc. Great professor hope there are more of him out there.
wow where do I start? EXCELLENT professor. Best prof I had this year. Wants us to do well and works very hard to make sure we get the most out of the course. Tells us the key to doing well in his class. LISTEN TO HIM trust me the A+ reflects it
I expected more of a challenge. Burk simplifies chemistry far too much to appeal to an advanced student such as I.
Perfect professor
perfeeeeeeeect teacher
His class was great. Website also helped me a lot. Take his course, his lectures are pretty cool, with lots of experiments during the lectures!
This prof is absolutely FANTASTIC- he really cares for his students, sometimes he takes similar quest from old exams/midterms. He is super funny, makes chemistry interesting and relates things from outside the textbook. Slides are great. He is very clear, audible and knows what he is talking about! Best professor i have had for a first year course!
Burk is a very overrated professor. The main reason he gets such good ratings is that he dumbs down the content for students. Seasoned chemists would cringe at his oversimplifications.
EXCELLENT
Best website! Really really helpful in and out of class. Makes himself totally available on MSN or in office or email or whatever.
Everything you could want in a prof.
celebrity bob = best prof ever

He's awesome.
2.45/10, hows that for a rating?
The dude is amazing. Super amiable, super helpful, concise, clear and intelligent as hell. It ain't an easy class, but it's not meant to be. He does however make it easier for his students any chance he can. He even gives you his MSN and tele number. If you put in the effort he'll make sure you get results. So don't mess around like I did. LEARN
Awesome class, one midterm and the final were alot harder that the previous years.
Great teacher. Definitely makes the class easier by giving you every chance to succeed!
He is more concerned with wanting to be the coolest prof than actually being able to teach chem. Although he is resourceful with tech, his lectures are empty. He likes to bash physics/biology alot, which is probally why he is limited in his ability to teach the physchem portion of the course. Asks you questions on exams not demonstrated in class.
AWESOME PROF!
best prof ever...... very knowledgable
BEST Prof in the universe. Tests are easy if you do the work, fair marking. Awesome because he's on TV/VOD.
Although his classes were entertaining and interesting, I don't think he was that great at explaining the material and making students understand it. Also, some of the exam questions seemed to be unfair. Overall, classes weren't too boring but need to learn the stuff on your own!
Very reasonable to deal with. Good marks achievable as long as you do your work!!
Best prof ever. He is so nice and helpful. I used to hate chemistry but after taking the course with him it became my favorite subject. He knows what he is doing very well. His tests are so fair. Just do the old exams and you can easily get A+.
INCREDIBLE!!!!
AMAZING! I hated chemistry before 1st year and I love it now. He is so helpful. I would never have thought a prof would have msn or facebook BUT he does! He comes on before tests and answers anything.Even if you just want to chat about chem hes there.Very funny.Old exam for past 10 years are provided and lectures and tutorial all given at beginning
He actually knows Chem and be able to explain it to anyone!
Amazing prof!! BEST science prof in my 3 years at Carleton. Made first year chem a breeze, and his lectures are always interesting. Labs were sometimes challenging, but it always ended up being more fun than not! Definitely pick Prof Burk for first year chemistry, and guaranteed you will pass! This man can explain anything!!!
I won't be saying anything different that someone has not already expressed. Truly one of the profs who has placed Carleton on the academic map. You will love chemistry after taking a class with him. His many awards and acolades indicate that he in fact is one of the best in the country !
Awesome guy with a great personality and great teaching style. Very patient with students, makes himself readily available. GO BOB!!
Great prof! this class is definetly worth coming to! If you have trouble, its really easy to ask him for help. He really enjoys chem and this definetly shows. He sounds a little like kermit the frog at times though.. however its pretty entertaining!
I see some ppl saying he simplifies the course too much but this is an INTRO to chem course. Read the book and do the assignments and u might think it's more challenging. Besides, probably 2/3 of students in the class are not majoring chem so it's important for the prof to balance the easiness. He's got like 10 years of teaching experience.
He's really good. The best chem teacher I've ever seen.
bob did an interim for phys chem this year. it was a new format from older 2101 and it will be better next yr, we were guinea pigs. less hard math, thats in 3100, but hard enough. he did his best, had a lot on his plate, but no ppt here (chalk only). best prof ever anywhere. he also accidently made class out of 110%, so we got higher marks!
Really cool prof.
First off, lol to whoever wrote the "kermit the frog" comment. It's a rare occurance, but I totally know what you mean. I'm glad someone else noticed haha. Anyway, fun prof. Lots of cool demos and opportunities for bonus percents (i.e. challenging application questions or singing a song with all the elements in front of everyone :D). Has MSN&facebk
He is the first Chem teacher that has made chemistry make sense to me.
entertaining
BEST PROF EVER.
I know its been said a hundred times - but he is such a really great guy. This class was easy for those who just kept up with the work. Perfect example of what a university prof/course should be like. Labs were decent and not a crazy amount of work.
Awesome prof!Makes the course really interesting, and even has msn etc so you can communicate with him (especially before midterms/exams). Labs aren't bad either
EXCELLENT powerpoint notes! They're really great if you're a "visual" person. Tests are fair, not hard not easy. He is also available on msn usually for an hour most nights so he is easily reachable. If you're confident in your chem skillz, the $150 textbook isn't necessary.
Best teacher ever!! he has awesome experiments and teaches from experiance.
Absolutely awesome professor, incredibly helpful.
Excellent professor. Interesting classes. Very organized. Gets midterms and exams marked in a few days even though there are around 500 students per class.
Really great teacher (even though I barely went to his class lol). Lecture slides were very brief, so you either had to stick your face in the text or attend his lectures to get by in the class. I found some of the labs pointless and boring though...I could really care less how much light went through a sample lol
Fabulous. Makes learning a wonderful experience.
Funny, easy going guy. The final was a little rough and the lab was really bad.
He is VERY entertaining
He's great at what he does, but makes some stupid decisions. If you have a heart problem, a panic disorder, are pregnant, or just care about your hearing, watch out for his hydrogen explosion -- he will set it off one day without telling you how incredibly loud it is. I was sitting in the front and my hearing was damaged for a while. Terrible.
Great teacher. If you want to do well, study, keep up with homework, and go to class because the material is not easy. The best way to earn an A is to review 4-5 of the previous years tests on his website. His tests are always the same format as the previous years. Labs are garbage, uninteresting, and a pain but he does not run that component...
Super nice professor & has entertaining experiments! Stay on top of the course material because it does pile quickly. If you attend class & do the assignments from the textbook THEN studying for the exams only off of his past tests/midterms will likely get you an A. But if you never attend lecture and study from the tests your screwed -TRUST ME!
Not bad.. awesome personality, loves what he does, explains everything well. A bit of a hard ass tho.
The best prof I was ever taught by. He cares about you doing well if you take the time to show up and he rewards students who do.
Best class I've ever had, he has experience in the field so he shares stories, and always reminds us how huge the world of chemistry is (huge by the way)
Bob is a great professor- he is very enthusiastic and you can tell he genuinely enjoys teaching Chemistry. He keeps things interesting by showing exciting experiments and his humour keeps the class from being dull.
Bob is extremely entertaining and his lectures were very informative! he does a very good job with meeting outside of class for any office hours. His tutorials are basically what you will need to know for mid terms/exams!
Outdated prof. Rambles through lectures quickly and rarely stops do give your mind a "breather." Slides are boring and unstimulating. Ive taken several chemistry courses (elementary and upper year courses)and this was one of the worst profs ive had.
I dont understand how this professor won an award for teaching, he simply stands infront of the class and reads as quickly as possible through his powerpoint slides, would not recommend taking this class to anyone
Really knows what he's talking about and how to teach it. Entertaining. Somewhat intimidating. His tests and exams are very hard though. He has high expectations.
best chem prof ...
best... prof... EVER IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!!!!!!! <3
Loved him! This course is hard but he makes the material a little more interesting.
Really know what he's talking about and likes teaching about it. Get overly excited about certain things which is funny.
Excellent prof. He provides very clear lectures that are align beautifully with the textbook (that he wrote). He is very reasonable as long as you put in an effort in his class. In my year he had a possible 8% bonus percent. If you can, get Bob Burk. This man is a Chemist who is passionate about his field and makes it interesting :)
Bob is amazing! He tries his best to make the class interesting and is hilarious. He loves chemistry and tries to get his students to do the same. Would definitely take another class with him. I'm still not sure whether I love him or Chemistry.
Sure Bob is a great, funny, and entertaining prof... but not very helpful. He tells you to email him if you have any questions, but once you do, he gives one word useless replies. He knows his stuff very well, but needs to realize that his students are there to learn.. theyre not quite at his level of knowledge yet...
Great lecturer and always available for help. Responds to emails right away. Do your Sapling (Homework for bonus marks!) go to lecture and tutorial and I don't see how you can't get an A
Bob is the best chem prof! He just doesn't go wrong! do ur sapling :) theres no how u won't get an A
He was fair. I found class unbearably boring and stopped going. He did a few interesting experiments in class but not as many as chem 1001. He brought Uranium to class...Sapling is all really need to do though. Exams were hard until I found all past ones...
Best prof! Enthusiastic, speaks clearly, available for help outside of class.
One of the best profs that I have had so far. Made me want to continue in chemistry! If you put in the work "you will do well"
I am majoring in computer science, yet Bob is the best prof I came across up till now. He is very good at what he does. he explains stuff well and he is passionate about Chemistry. I went into the class with no interest in Chemistry, now I really love it. my only note about him is that he can be tough on Exams. Do your work and you'll be fine.
Words can't describe how amazing this professor is.
Entertaining, but arrogant and heartless. Very hard to approach. His exams always are on material covered minimally in the lectures, and every exam is near impossible in terms of difficulty. Dream crusher to say the least, made me hate chemistry.
Bob is very passionate about chemistry, and makes it so his interest in subjects rub off on his students. He has the course down to an art, where he barely looks at the lecture slides and just talks. The course itself is not the easiest, and the textbook is summarized in the notes, so textbook isn't 100% necessary. The sapling homework is worth it.
Great Prof, makes things very clear, responds to email's very quickly, and easily available for a meeting by appointment. Ensures exams are marked quickly and gives lots of opportunity for Bonus Marks.
Amazing prof!!!!!!!! Test and exams are fair. Very helpful and gives many opportunities to improve your mark. Great class, highly recommended :D
Best. Prof . Ever .
not a good teacher. He just comes to the class and does his job. Has no passion for teaching. Thinks a lot of himself. sapling is a total waste of time, if you start doing it, there is nothing else you can do, there are long complex questions for each chapter. He does not know that science is not about solving questions, but is about seeking stuff
He was great but a lot of reading is needed to make sure you fully understand. He uses sapling which forces you to try problems and you can get extra credit for it!! Very funny and a lot of fun in his class
Bob Burk is amazing, passionate about his lectures, and genuinely cares about each student. He may appear tough at first, but he really gives you the tools you need to succeed. Doing Sapling, attending all lectures and tutorials, reading the textbook and trying extra credit opportunities sets you up for a high mark because it keeps you on track.
Bob is an amazing prof! His in class experiments, lots of extra credit opportunities, and humour made the lectures interesting. Though the textbook is rarely necessary if you use Sapling, it helps to have it for extra practice, and showing up for the tutorial is a grade saver. He also had notes for all lectures posted within the first month.
Lots of people fail miserably
Best prof I've had all year! Bob is amazing, explains everything perfectly, always available to help and answer questions. Responds to emails instantly. He expects you to work for your grades, the tests are tough, but they are fair... study (a lot) what he taught you and you will be fine .Would definitely take any course he teaches, he's that good!
Awesome professor, clear course syllabus and expectations, assignments are straightforward if you go to class and tutorials, clearly loves teaching & wants students to succeed, great lectures & you can tell he knows his stuff. Must go to class because lectures are hand written on the board. Just beware of typos in classin answer keys.
best prof ive had and ive completed several degrees at Carleton. most student friendly. thorough and can explain abstract ideas well. will take his time and address any question until you get it. wish all profs were like him.
Great prof for chemistry, thing make sense!
Bob is friendly, funny, helpful and great at teaching chemistry. Study hard, go to all the lectures and tutorials and ask questions, he's nice. Do your Sapling!! Its easy and gives you up to 5% bonus in the course! And the lectures fly by because he often does really cool experiments or has the whole lecture hall laughing. Awesome guy!!
classes are fun, funny, gives previous exams, does most of the exams' questions in tutorials, marks exams very fast, gives many ways to improve your grades, but tough in grading exams.
I like that he shows the tests from previous years. Gives a good idea on what to study. Not the hardest class but you have to pay attention. Literally everything he says in lecture is what you need to know; I barely looked at my textbook.
Bob Burk has a lot of passion for chemistry. You can tell by the way he talks about real life applications of chemicals that he's come across in his life. Great prof if you want to learn about chemistry instead of getting an easy A. If you take advantage of the resources he has available, you can learn a lot and pass with an A.
Entertaining lectures, plenty of office hours if needed. Great prof, he gives students everything they need to do well.
Pretty good prof. Really nothing bad to say. He gives us bonus marks for doing the assignments on Sapling Learning, and trust me, Sapling is EXTREMELY worth it. Not only did I learn how to solve problems through using Sapling, but it also boosted my mark. Bob has good office hours and is willing to take the extra time to help his students.
A professor who knows his stuff and has an open door policy when it comes to getting help. Sometimes he may go quickly or be a bit unclear about concepts in class, but again, he has an open door policy when it comes to asking for help so there's no excuse. Check out past midterms to get a feel for the format.
My favourite prof so far at Carleton, makes things very clear. Would definitely suggest attending all classes as it really benefits you
Best chemistry prof at Carlton. Uses the chalk board (no lecture slides) for CHEM2800 so be ready to write. Studying is easy if lectures are attended, he also posts online resources such as previous midterms and exams .
Fantastic Prof. Chemistry is a tough subject, but Bob is obviously passionate about it and makes sure things like Tutorials and online homework are great resources to prepare for tests and exams. Pay attention, don't miss a beat, and you'll do well!
He's an awesome prof, and clearly loves what he's doing. The material is taught really well, Burk makes chemistry interesting. He even does a few in class experiments!! Tests are extremely fair, and he provides midterms from previous years as practice too! Do sapling, it's an easy extra 5% on your final grade. Definitely recommend him to anyone!!
Great prof, entertaining lectures, very good at explaining the concepts
Definitely have to work for you A+ in this class. Mid terms are based on past tests he has given and the final exams are completely new questions. Do not even try to predict with old final exams. If you use the high school memorization method, you'll screw yourself over. Understand the concepts properly and you'll do well.
Bob was amazing. He made me fall in love with chemistry. As long as you take good notes in class, use the textbook to practice problems and do sapling you'll do great.
bob burk is literally the worst human
FANTASTIC professor! Lectures are very enjoyable and very clear. Tells fun stories. The tests are tough but fair.
Incredible professor - was bad at chemistry and excelled in it because of interactive tutorials and lectures. Willing to meet you and discuss anything you need, he is very negotiable if you prove your understanding of the topic. He gives up to 8% worth of bonus for both 1001 and 1002. Defs recommend
A rare prof who actually cares about students success, put in the work and you'll see good results.
Bob made chemistry really enjoyable, and always made sure everyone understood the topic before moving on. He would bring in demonstrations very often and always related what we were learning back to real life examples. Really awesome guy, and really cares about his students. He has a lot of opportunities for bonus marks too, which is great.
Bob is great but you won't get that grade because of that. He knows his stuff and he's good at explaining it but it's up to you to make sure you understand it. It's a big class so you might feel he moves quick so he's got a lot of office hours through the week if you think you need the help.
Absolute amazing professor. Get to know him and he has your back. Loved his class, going out of my way to take all the ones possible with him.
One of the best profs for first year at Carleton. He actually makes chemistry fun to learn. Love his experiments in class!
I love Burke, make sure to take his online classes... responds to emails quickly
Bob gives out a lots of work... Understanding concepts is chemistry is hard as it is, and sometimes he doesn't tech you stuff you have to know. He'll spend 15 minutes on a story to illustrate something, rather than teaching you how to do the problems he expects you to do. Lots of homework time outside class, find someone to work through these with!
very tough course had to drop because it requires so much time to do well in. if you are going to take this class have a background and chem and dont take more then 3 courses
Great prof. He really respects students that want to do well. Went to see him at his office hours a few times and he was so nice and really guided me on the right path. Failed my first midterm and wanted to do better so i regularly saw him and ended up getting an 80 on my second. Hard work pays off in his class.
He really knows his stuff well, and gives students lots of chances to get bonus marks. His exams are fair but there is so much to cover in the course, which makes the course hard.
Exams do not have any multiple choice aspects If you aren't confident in previous chemistry experience, get prepared to work twice as hard to get where he expects you to be Available fairly often for office hours Moves very fast, expects assignments to be done in minimal time
You 100% need to put in the work. He gives many chances for bonus marks .(A total of 7%) It's very fast paced but do-able. online assignments can be harsh sometimes but if you talk to him about it, he'll change it.
Great professor to have in first year. He puts a lot of emphasis on the learning process and what you have to do to succeed. He makes you feel guilty when I wasn't on top of things, but as a first year student that's a good thing because it pushes you to get into good habits. His tests are challenging, but fair. Put in the work and you'll do well.
Bob's really fun and encourages participation from the class with demonstrations and explosions. Gives you a lot of chances to earn marks, but you've got to work for them and remember them since there's two assignment's each week.
Great prof! Explains things fairly thoroughly and is explicit about what you will need to know and what you won't. Gives many opportunities for bonus marks. Posts previous midterms/exams for practice and to give you an idea of his style. You definitely need to put in the work and ensure you do all online practice.
I LOVE Bob. He talks a little slow in real life but if you watch lectures on VOD you can put him at 1.5X speed. He gives you ALL the resources you need to ace his courses - from previous exams to tutorials to hallway sessions. Tutorials have almost all info/knowledge you'd need, I binged watched them before my exam and did great.
Fair grader. He means what he says. He WILL NOT, under ANY circumstances, round your grade. If you get a 49.9% in the course, he WILL fail you. No exceptions.
Really good prof, super funny and pretty nice. Watching (VOD) or going to class is a MUST but he'll re-explain stuff to you if you see him in his office. Bob's VERY big on textbook readings, lots of midterm and assignment questions come from the textbook
Bob is a great professor who can explain first-year Chemistry clearly with some solid real examples. His class is hard and requires a lot of work to do well in.
Hilarious, friendly, knowledge, and a fair grader. What more could you want? Course covers a lot of material, so don't fall behind!
Very good lecturer, explains concepts with absolute clearity. He has a very good course layout where homework, lectures, and labs are integrated together. The course elements seemed to fit together well.
Bob is the best
Bob is an amazing prof he is really funny and answers all your questions in a nice manner He does give a lot of homework but the marks you get from it will be good He gives you opportunity to get bonus marks in the course Overall he is an amazing prof.
He really know's what he is doing, his lectures are very interesting he gives opportunities to get extra marks, Although he assignments can be very long they really help to understand the course material, He is also accessible outside class easy to approach and very nice You would honestly enjoy this course
Bob is the greatest man to have ever walked on this planet, let me tell you. His teaching is very straightforward and as long as you come to class, do lots of practice and do your homework, you'll do well. He's such a nice guy and will answer any questions you have after class or in his office. Also super approachable (and hilarious).
He is a great teacher. The tutorials are the pretty importnant and the most helpful for exams and tests. His tests and exams are conceptual so if you don't understand and just meorize you will do poorly. Also, he gives you past exams and midterms which I studied for the final exam last semester and I got an A on the exam and an A+ in the course.
Really wants his students to succeed and will help with any questions you have. His lectures are great and he explains concepts very thoroughly and easy to understand. I failed this class first time around in summer with a different prof but ended up with a decent grade with Bob. Helps that he wrote the textbook too - he really knows his stuff.
Able to succeed well in the class if you stick to doing the previous midterms and exams he posts. Good to go to class but rarely used my notes for midterms. Lab portion sucks !
If you are willing to put the work, time and effort in, a good mark isn't hard to get. Bob puts past exams and midterms for both courses on CuLearn and they're great to use as study tools, however you can't only study off of them. Overall he's a pretty fair prof and you know what to expect from him, labs aren't too hard and help your mark out alot.
He's by far my favorite! Really made my 1st year of university experience worth while and he made me even more interested in Chemistry. His exams are fair, assignments are long but they force you to read the textbook so you get more practice from it. He gives students a lot of opportunities to do very well. Keep practicing and always ask questions!
Lots of content in course over exams and homework. Labs are easy if you follow marking scheme and read TA comments. Exams are very difficult. get grades where you can with labs and homework
Bob Burk's lectures are very short, doesn't explain the main concepts and HOW he does his work. He just says"you do this then this blah blah".For a decent grade you must read the whole textbook. I studied a month before the exam,it was nothing that we were told to study for. The new online system is terrible, I would not recommend taking this class
Very good at explaining lectures and makes things very interesting. Midterms & finals can be quite difficult.
The lectures were online while tutorials & labs were on campus. uses online HW system based on the txtbk (that he wrote) but the assignments don't reflect the exams. Excessive amount of weekly assignments, lectures are not helpful/detailed, mono-toned, and 80% of the textbook focuses on introducing a topic and what it ISN'T rather than teaching it.
He was not helpful at all!
Bob's class was one of the few first year classes I thoroughly enjoyed. I found myself laughing through lectures and tutorials, as he used humor to keep us engaged, even in an online setting. Homework assignments can be a little challenging, give yourself plenty of time to complete them. If you don't read the book, you won't do well on exams!
I enjoyed Chem 2103. Attend tutorial to be able to understand some concepts harder. Do the textbook practice questions also.
Burk does live experiments in class that are really cool. The homework can be a lot of work to keep up with, but overall Burk is a funny and engaging lecturer. His midterms and finals are fair.
The weekly homework assignments are very lengthy and time consuming. It would be very difficult to understand the course without the textbook because Bobs explanations during lectures aren't super helpful when it comes to problem solving. He goes in depth into concepts that you might never need to remember, and is vague about others. Tough grading.
