Very cool professor & really easy
he was great. i liked him a lot.
He's sort of a wacko.
Terrific teacher and I kept coming back for more. I was not a philosophy major, but he was so great I took all his classes. He makes you think and is very accepting of divergent opinions. Sort of looks like Dustin Hoffman with glasses.
Easy A If you need to bring up your grade point average, this is the class to take.
Easy A... but he doesn't care about the class.
Castiglione is the man, what else can I say?
Interesting professor. Cares about his students alot and that makes a difference. He makes school alot fun to go to. Easy lectures and almost everybody gets an A. except the dumb ones.
the nicest, most helpful professor at ric, also has a great sense of humor. no one ever drops his courses, he is passionate yet realistic about philosophy.
Great person! He works hard to make sure we understand the material. Yes, it is pretty easy to get a good grade...
Best Ever, teaches material without talking about it.
this is the best teacher at RIC. He's so nice and its easy to get an A. He's funny because he needs to take a cigarette break every hour!
Professor Castiglione is awesome! He could care less about the class, and gives people an A just for showing up. He has interesting views and gives tells students the No Spin on life.
In a couple of posts here, people have said he doesn't care. Well, I don't think that's true. I think he does.... but he also knows what's important in life, and that Philosophy is mostly "bull****."
Very easy class, no work required. He's very good at teaching you life lessons, and he definitely cares about his students. I'd take another class with him.
great experience, a very refreshing experience compared to most of the arrogant professors at RIC. Everyone should take this guy for at least one class while at RIC, you will get an A, thats pretty much garunteed. He's also very funny, he teaches class like its a stand up routine, good stuff
Need a few GPA-boosters? TAKE HIS CLASSES! He is the easiest professor ever. His classes are interesting and entertaining and he's very easy-going. Very low-impact professor with an almost gauranteed A. Show up most of the time and do the little work that he gives you and you will get an easy A.
the best
you will get an A but won't learn very much
Won't learn a damn thing in this class. Will get an A if you show up every coupla weeks. Managed to pick the worst textbook on the subject ever, but as he said, it was relatively cheap. If you're a serious student you may wanna look elsewhere or end up wondering what you just spent your money on.
Great guy, great attitude, you learn but don't notice it
I tried to take him for every core requirement I could. Still makes me laugh every class. He knows core classes are B.S. as much as we do that's why he is an easy grader. Can't complain about the learning part, because it wouldn't help in the long run anyway. Great guy, easy grader.
EASY, EASY, EASY, A. Freat GPA boost
Guaranteed A, great for completing your 400 level requirement. GPA will go up. You will learn everything you need to know plus some.
histerically amusing... his opinion is that people when left to their own deviced do 1 of 4 things: 1: ****, 2: fight, 3: watch other people ****, 4: watch other people fight he teaches you some stuff but you won't realize you've learned anything - he is insanely easy and really amusing.
I love this guys, he's fricken hilarious and it's a nice break to take an easy class where a teacher is not trying to pile work on you and you are struggling to balance a full coarse load and work. Castiglione is refreshing, genuinely a nice guy who is willing to help out students. He wrote great reccomendations that helped me get into grad school

One of the best teachers that I've ever had. The best thing about him is that you don't even know that you're learning the stuff until you go to study for the test. Everything he teaches is done through jokes and it doesn't feel like heavy learning, whic
Best prof I've ever had
He's one of the few teachers at RIC that seem to actually be 'awake'. Despite that the class bores me. His techniques of shocking students to get their attention works well on freshmen, who have never heard cussing by a teacher in a classroom but gets a bit old if you've been in 'big people' school for a while. But it does get through to those that he really needs to reach, and so he is one of the best teachers in the place.
Yes he is ez, yes he is funny - take his classes you won't regret!
We were suppose to have 4 short essay tests, a midterm and a final objective test. However he got lazy and we ended up having 2 short essay tests, a midtern and final. Hes boring and is so lazy that it took months to hand the first two assignments back. If your looking for an easy class, this is for you. He counts attendance. 90-100 gets you an A.
I've seriously never had a class quite as amusing or informative, although I must say I didn't learn much about Asian Philosophy, but more real-life skills and applications. If you call him in advance, you don't have to attend class. He grades very easily. It is a cram-before-the-exam kind of class because he doesn't teach anything, though...
This guy's the man. If you are going to be a doctor or need rocket science dont take him. If you want to learn every day stuff and actually get use out of it hes the one to take. Plus its a REAL EASY A. I dont mind working for a good grade i get straight a's but I'll take an easy one any day. One class a semester with him is the way to go.He rocks
If you need a core 4 requirement, talk Freedom with Castiglione. He is funny and full of surprises. The first 2 exams were opinion essays and were easy! He takes attendance, but if you understand the material, he doesn't hold it against you if you leave halfway through the class! This is boring material, but he makes it tolerable.
If you are looking for a really easy class to take, take his freedom class. The material is really dull but if you do the readings in the packets he gives you then you're fine. If you like structure, don't take his class. We never got a syllabus and a lot of times it would take him an hour to go over one paragraph because he gets sidetracked....
Doesn't really stay on topic. Funny to listen to, and VERY helpful.
Guy is simply legendary, easy A- but be warned, you will learn absoulty nothing. Halerious too, great guy, take him for as a GPA booster!
These messages are all true you will not stop laughing. He is a riot he is extremely funny and above all else he is the man. BTW very easy A even if you get a low B on an exam your walking away with an A.
This guy is the MAN!! I took him last summer for Asian Philosophy (Core3). He is hilarious. He takes countless cigarette breaks throughout each class period. We BARELY stayed on topic. In fact, we spent more time on Hindu philosophy than Asian. We learned about the origins of Italian names and pretty much anything else that has NO relevance.SO GOOD
THE LIVING LEGEND AT RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE! AWSOME PROFESSOR! Hilarious lectures, take as many courses as you can with this guy to boost GPA or just for a good laugh. Truly cares about his students and relates his lecture to real life.
Real nice guy. Goes out of his way to help. Knows alot about the real world. Funny--keeps your attention. No big paper requirements, no presentations to give. Gives a break in the middle of class. Would definitely take him for Core 3. He will get you through the class and you may actually enjoy it. All professors should be like him.
very funny. Very helpful and understanding
AMAZINGLY FUNNY. Worth going to class just to laugh.
Greatest human being to ever walk the Earth.
AWSOME GUY! I knew nothing about asian philosophy and still am clueless, failed the objective exam with a 40-somethign and passed the final with a D-...ENDED UP WITH A B...TAKE THIS TEACHER! Be quick about registering for his classes as they fill up within the first day
This professor knows his classes are a joke among students. He admits it on the first day. You will get a A in the course guaranteed, but dont believe you earned it in any way and he will tell you that too.
I feel I can only have a very mixed review for this teacher. While most of the class understandably disliked his rambling and humorous stereotyping, I found him quite helpful to meet with after class, and he was also very knowledgeable about the subject he was teaching. If you're easily offended, I wouldn't recommend this course, otherwise, take it
Bob is an awesome professor, always willing to help you. I have taken 4 classes with him and always enjoyed his humor. He was always willing to work with you ecspecially if you have kids and need certain accomidations. Also if you need a gpa boost his class is always good for that, but if you want a good grade go to class and take notes.
the best!
Awesome teacher! Knows his class is a joke so just jokes and tells stories all of class. Took him for both Asian Phil and Gods. Easy A with LITTLE/NO EFFORT. Got a B in Asian, bc I only went to 3 CLASSES all semester. Easy easy 3 opinion papers that he gives A's and midterm test and final. Bombed mid/final and got A. Take him before you leave RIC!
Best professor ever!
Best professor at RIC. Will do anything to help you pass. He doesnt care if you attend class as long as you email him. He gives opinion essays and 2 multiple choice exams BUT gives you all the answers prior to the exam so there is no way you cant pass. I took him for GODS, ASIAN PHIL, ASTHETICS, and Im taking him again for FREEDOM I got As in all
Best Professor i have had at RIC. deff take him if you can. doesnt care if you come to class or not, doesnt care if you leave class early. doesnt care if you have no idea whats going on in his class casue he will tell you right our he doesnt no either. will excuse you from class if you email him. gives you all the answers to mult. choice texts befo
THE VERY BEST!!!
Castiglione's class is painful to go to. You're going to get an A guaranteed. His classroom schtick gets old after 15 minutes. He doesn't talk about the material. I really wouldn't recommend this guy unless you really need an A. His class is boring.
Absolutely ridiculous. Insulting..lectures about how we can?t pull any bull on him when his whole class is a joke! Teaches NOTHING and expects you to actually be interested. Starts every class with 20 minutes of how our grade is broken down..keep that for the first class. Do not take him unless you think education is a joke.
HELL!!! Easy A, but you will learn nothing, class is painful to go to....bring headphones, and expect a smoke break in the middle of class. Total Joke. DO NOT take him unless you think school..I mean college-- which YOU PAY FOR is a joke!!!
I don't understand why this person is teaching. All he does is babble on and on about nothing. The worst professor!
Had him for a class over the summer. Lots of babbling about nothing. Incredibly boring. Easy A, though. Class is kind of an insult to education. Only take him if you're looking for a class to blow off and still ace. I guess this is what you get from a short Italian white guy.
Class is a joke. He spends half the class talking about his grading methods, and the other half ranting about nothing. Easy A, but if you want to learn anything from a college course do not take him. Waste of time and money.Glad I didn't need this class for my major
He lectures very minimally about the philosophy related to the course at hand. However, if you listen closely you'll realize that he's teaching a lot of philosophy. People think he's stupid but he's one of the smartest professors I've had. I've never known anyone to get less than an A in any of his courses.
Easy professor. Insultingly easy. Seems to think RIC students can't handle real academic work. Lectures are mostly about his sex life and RI stereotypes and how to take multiple-choice tests. Too bad, because the material is actually kind of interesting. Also. Scantron tests in a philosophy course?!
Sat on my phone and played angry birds during the entire class and still managed to get an A. After taking this class I still barley know anything about logic. Easiest A I've ever gotten in college, if you take him, just make sure you at least show up to class, attendance is a good chunk of your grade
*Take his course if you think that college gen ed requirements are a joke. We've already had plenty of general education (it's called highschool). Instead of being constricted to certain topics that we must waste our time on, we should be free to pursue knowledge in our own way. Castiglione helps ease our pain by passing anyone with a pulse.
He is the best teacher at RIC. He is funny and engaging. He is very helpful too. It's easy to get an A if you show up to class. I recommend him to all my friends. His classes fill up super fast because he is popular.
He def. lived up to the hype. Attendance is a big part of your grade so just show up, it's really all you need to do. I did not pay attention to one lecture for the second half of the course, not one. Did not look at the 36 pg study guide for the final, and got a 66. End result of it all? 'A' in Castig's. Learned a lot about triangles though..
This man is a G he is real and keep 100% at all times. Had a great time in his class i manage to finish my 2k12 my player mode in his class because he does not care if u pay attention or use a computer as long as your in class. Just show up and ur guarantee a C+ do a lil more n u get an A. Best class i ever taken at RIC. He is the Man
Took his class in the summer, very easy, you can play on your phone while in class. Easy A. Took class in the summer, his attendance policies is not something i could keep up during the fall semester. If you miss classes he will deduct points, not fair for those who have a full time job.
I have taken two philosophy classes with Professor Castiglione and am taking a third soon. He is an easier professor, but he is also very knowledgable, honest and helpful. Read his notes carefully and you will do well. Be respectful and he will be nice back.
Kind of all over the place with this lectures, try to tie what the text talks about with real life, not always getting the desired result. Very funny and super smart. A must have if you wanna have fun while you learn.
This prof. is tough in that you want to take his class because it is impossible not to get an A, but the class itself and going to it is so annoying and pointless you wanna claw your eyes out. Each class he would ramble about random topics. Gives extra credit, attendance points, lets you leave halfway thru class. He is definitely...different.
I could bang my head on the desk and get a 100
Bob Castiglione truly is the greatest teacher at Rhode Island College. This is by far the greatest way to conduct a course. Go to class for points, 3 scan-tron exams, with an additional 2 extra credit scan-trons to boost your initial exam grade. 1 in class Essay almost everyone got a 100% on. 90% or > = a straight A. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Aesthetics was a great course with Professor Castiglione. The class analyzed pieces of art and more importantly defined "What is art". Highly recommended to everyone, no prior experience needed. Professor Castiglione gives real life advice. He treats everyone with respect.
Professor Castiglione's Freedom & Responsibility course was one of the best courses I ever took in my life at Rhode Island College. The hardest part was showing up at 8:00AM. In this class I learned not to worry about things I can't control but worry about things I can control. We studied great philosophers like Epictetus. Helped my life A LOT!
Easiest Class ever taken. This professor is the best
Very funny, easy class, if you do the worK you will get a good grade.
This Professor is awesome! Easy, easy, easy. Would take him again in a heartbeat. He's one of the few that actually get to know you by name. Easy A.
This professor sets you up for success. Full in the bleak essays, multiple choice exams, gives you all the notes you need. Probably don't even have to open a text to pass. Just read his notes (which are pretty good). I've taken him for 3 classes because of it.
He wants everybody to pass. 2 essay exams, 2 MC exams. He hands you his notes and literally goes line by line to tell you what to expect on the exams. Attendance counts! Every class is worth .5 points. 14 points by the end of the semester. He goes off on random tangents a lot but typically they're hysterical and "colorful" ;-)
He talks way too much and gets off topic easily. The guy will get off topic so easily. He's literally so boring, do not take him for an 8 am you will just fall asleep. he has a few exams and he will literally give you notes and goes over them but sucks at doing that. i will never take him again.
How he grades is clearly outlined at the beginning of class. Attendance is taken and you are given points for being there. The material is very clear and you are given a study guide for tests. He also offers extra credit to boast grade
I studied with Dr. Castiglione back in 1983. If there is one professor I can remember and say "this person changed my life when I was a young undergraduate" it was Dr. C. Great guy who made me think about things differently, plus he made learning fun. I miss those days a lot.
