REALLY nice & funny guy! This class is hard though! Show up! He doesn't take roll, but gives pop quizzes and you need the notes and lecture. The study sessions before the tests are EXTREMELY helpful. Someone should assassinate his student aides though
I slept through every single day of class and made a B easily, and that was studying very lightly the night before. He is so obsessed with humanism that I couldn't stand it and switched for HY 102. I wouldn't take him again.
I thought he was a lot of fun. He gives extra credit and his study sessions are WONDERFUL. I enjoyed his classes. He is fun.
Great guy! Really went that extra mile to help me when I needed it! Would advise everyone to take his class!
GREAT TEACHER! He is very willing to help everyone and even holds study sessions before tests. Make sure you go to class though because you'll need the notes.
The best history teacher I've ever had. Funny guy. Really helpful! Just make sure you go to class.
Wonderful, realistic, and understanding person.Knows that we have lives outside of school and works with you if you have a problem.
It's a very good class. Not hard, if you take notes and go to his study sessions before the test. Their is a little outside reading however.
Gives pop quizzes, notes are dictational so that makes it a lot easier. His tests are multiple choice, fill in the blank and then you chose 5 terms from a list and write who, what when, where and why they are important. SOmetimes his tests contains maps too. Funny guy ;D
I wish every prof. was like him! He tries to make this a total learning experience - and is always available and happy to help you outside class. Cheerful and energetic.
Very easy history teacher. I would recommend him. He used powerpoint in our very large class and taking notes was a must. Never opened the books that were required. Test were easy
Great sense of humor! Very interesting lectures and uses powerpoint so note taking is easier. Uses website and keeps it updated. Highly recommended!
Great teacher. makes class easy. tests are word for word from notes. gives study guides whre everything on it is actually on the test and nothing more...how great is that?!
Great Teacher! Everything is on Powerpoint and On-Line, but attendance is necessary to fill in the gaps. Tests are straight from the lectures.

Goffy little man. Easy to take notes. test straight from notes. easy class. nice guy recommend
He tries to be funny, which is sometimes funnier than his joke. Has annoying helpers that think they are the boss of the class. If you study your notes, you will pass. END OF SESSION!
He was good before hand when i took his 102 class, but his lectures have become dry and he has stepped away from the "fun" attitude (no simpson's episodes?) that said, his TA's are idiots and grade papers too strictly. He is the easiest of the bunch and don't worry about buying a book. Tues/Thurs avoid! he's not good then. only m/m/f is worth it.
I LOVE Dr. Faust he's awesome, he's the best teacher at this university. Wonderful tests, I've had an A in both classes he's super easy and I learned ALOT.
If you study the notes and read the text's you will make an A. Loved his inclusion of The Simpson's episodes into lectures
This class was easy. You must go to class and take notes but the test are not very hard. There are 4 tests all semster long and an essay. The essay was not difficult. I did mine the night before and got a 96. At first the class is kind of boring but it gets better. He tries to make it interesting and is willing to work with students.
Great teacher, he gives you review sheets for the test and takes the time to help with any questions. Will take him for 102 for sure. His assistants do grade tough on the essay portions of the test.
Dr. Faust was my favourite teacher this semester. He's really funny, and cool. His lectures are excellent, and you can tell he enjoys what he does, which makes it more interesting for us. He gives out study guides, and there are also review sessions. He's also very helpful if you are having problems. I most definitely reccomend Dr. Faust!
I absolutely did not want to take History, but it's required. Still, I'm so glad i ended up w/ this guy. He's a great teacher, doesn't just read slides, answers questions, is approachable, helpful, and entertaining. His class is actually easy to pay attention to becuase he explains everything in sequential and relative order w/ humor. Great class.
I am really glad that I have this class. Dr. Faust is so entertaining and funny. He makes History into a story instead of just a lot of dates to remember. Very nice and extremely understanding and helpful.
Dr. Faust is awesome. I wish I could take him for 102 but he's not teaching at a time I need. He's easy and you actually learn. You can get an A if you try. Definitely recommend him!
Dr. Faust is an excellent instructor. He discusses History in a manner which is very informative and interesting, as if it is a story. He encourages his students to do well and is more than willing to help as long as you try. Great class for an Intro. Will recommend to others as well as try to take more classes in the future! Cute too!
I've always hated and sucked at history, and I still do. Dr. Faust is pretty funny, though. Takes roll almost every class period. Very rarely lets out early. Very little homework. Quiz every week. Many boring required readings. Very nice and willing to help. My grade was not all that great, but it may just be because I'm terrible at history.
Great prof. Very intellectual and interesting--for a Brad Pitt look-a-like. (wink, wink!)
As long as you put forth the effort, he is more than willing to work with you to do well in his class. Lot of reading; especially primary documents. Tests and quizzes are fair. Take him if you have the chance.
He was awesome. I love history and he made it that much more interesting. He is a kool guy and I recommend him to everyone. You'll really enjoy this class.
Very helpful and funny professor. Come to class and take notes and you will do well!
I think Bob has got to be my favorite teacher on south alabama campus. he's so wonderful and helpful I just love him!!
Here are the only negatives: A little bit of reading with the primary documents, you have to take some notes, and you have to write a few EXTREMELY short essays on his tests... Otherwise this class rocks!! Tests are MC, Map, a few fill in the blank w/ word bank..quizzes are short, focused on primary documents, and always MC..come2 most classes thou
I took Dr. Faust for both 101 and 102 and enjoyed his class both times. He makes history interesting and easy to learn. He does have weekly quizzes but those are easy, just read the primary documents. Best way to study for the test: take each term, try to write a few sentences about it, and memorize. Just do your readings, study and you'll be fine.
I had no interest in this class before i took it. I actually kinda liked it. Dr. Faust is a great teacher. Class attendence is not really vital, though he does give random quizzes occasionally. Go to the study sessions before the test and you'll pass.
HORRIBLE Power Points! Great guy, lectures are all verbal with the power points as outlines only. YOU WILL BE TEACHING YOUR SELF! Go to class listen to him and then go teach yourself at home.
Dr. Faust is an excellent teacher, very helpful and accomodating.
His test were harder than I thought they would be. Yes, you have to study if you want to make at least a C. If you want to do good onthe quizes if have to read the primary documents.
Easy tests, but kind of hard identity questions. I hate dates, which seems to be something Dr. Faust really loves to put on his tests. Know how the terms relate to modern day life.
Anyone that can call Dr. Faust horrible is out of their mind. I took him for 101 and 102 and if he ever taught anything else, I'd be the first to sign up. Go to class, take good notes, attend his review sessions, and you'll have an A..no problem. Great guy.
Had Dr. Faust for HY 101 and 102. The difficulty of the class really depends on which of his TA's grades your tests. In his 101 class, the tests were graded much harder than his 102 unless I just got smarter.
Honestly i didn't really try till the very end. He only had three test that made 75% of your grade. 15% were quizzes from primary document, there would be about 4 or 5 documents, and the documents ranged from a good size paragraph to about 3 or 4 pgs. He is very funny! Very nice guy, but u will need to study to do well in his class.
One of the funniest teachers alive!! Keeps your attention during class and is willing to explain things more than once. Study sessions are fun and helpful. Tests are not hard at all. Most of the test is multiple choice and fill in the blank, with five short answer essays. There are quizzes every week, but they are easy if you read the primary docs.
Amazing teacher that always keeps your attention... He has a great sense of humor... even showed us The Simpsons in class one day. His multiple choice questions are ridiculously easy... and his tests are just that and 5 short answers. You wouldn't think Colonial history was very interesting, but I really enjoyed this class...
not too bad.
He's funny and really into his job. He makes learning history fun!
knows his history and how to teach it
Excellent and fun teacher. Tests are not too bad, but don't underestimate them.
Fun teacher; He tries to make things interesting, but it's hard since it's history. He talks as if it's a story, which can make it hard to take notes. His multiple choice questions are extremely easy, and he gives a study guide before each test. He also gives multiple opportunities for extra credit, as well as study sessions before tests.
If you are a Christian, you might get offended in this class. He is very easy to listen to. The primary documents are a burden though.
I am a straight A student, and I had to drop this class. All he does is lecture off power point, and not very well. He never references the textbook, and the primary documents are too long, and not easy to read. Take R. WIlliamson shes good.
this guy's pretty funny. attendance isn't mandatory for western civ I, but you really should go. don't worry about buying the textbook, though; a friend and i shared one copy, and we cracked it maybe a half-dozen times. he lectures off powerpoint, so you know the main points he wants to make. read the primary docs, go to class and you'll do fine.
Great professor. He makes a difficult class like history easy and interesting. Make sure that you attend the study sessions before the tests!!! Highly recommended.
great lecture. easy to understand.
I took this class online! It was a lot of reading, but the discussion section helped with the test! This is the man to take for history!!!!
Dr. Faust is very one-sided when grading essays. However, If you visit the Doc in his office he is very willing to help you if you need some review. Also he offers extra credit which will give you a boost of half a letter grade!Long live Freier Faust!!!
He is a great teacher, very fun and tests are pretty easy, just go to class, he tells everything like a story so just sit back and enjoy. GO TO STUDY SESSIONS! they really help
Dr. Faust gives hard test but doesnt teach well enough to give them. You have to teach yourself, you might get a C.
Great teacher easy to follow, makes class interesting! Super nice very willing to help just take notes and you will make an A no prob!!
Hard for his american History class! Gives a study guide but you still never really know what is going to be on the test!! very boring lectures really hard to pay attention to! Really hard test!!!!!
Dr. Faust is really good, I recommend him fo sho!
Dr. Faust is a wonderful teacher, and is more than willing to help out. He does THREE study sessions before every test, and if you go to them you'll pass. Those who say he doesn't help or that he's hard didn't go to the study sessions
Dr. Faust is THE BEST! He loves his work and it shows. While the information the class offers is vital, Dr. Faust's sense of humor makes it fun as well. He goes above and beyond the call of duty to help his students learn the material and pass the tests. And his Power Point presentations and extra credit questions are hilarious! He is one of a kind
He is the best of the best. Very helpful when it comes to just about anything, even things that dont deal with his class...you couldnt ask for a better professor. I am taking him for HY136 as well. Love his extra credit questions they make you laugh and he has a great sense of humor makes the class fun. take notes and you will pass.
This professor is hilarious. He makes learning history fun. I took his online class this Summer and I enjoyed it a great deal.
Dr. Faust seems to love his job and the subject he teaches. He purveys the information very well and makes it interesting. He also has a good sense of humor and is very willing to help!
He is the best professor I had at south. He is so nice and more than willing to help out and his teaching style makes history fun and easy but you learn a lot too. Must Take Him!!
Dr. Faust is a great teacher -- he's very clear, very informative and funny as hell. If you stay awake, pay attention, take notes and do the readings (take heed -- lots of reading), you'll pass his class without a problem. Dr. Faust is a must if you take HY 135.
Dr. Faust teaches history from a thematic perspective. It's not just dates and names...it's about why history unfolded the way it did, who/what was in conrol? If that sounds more interesting to you, and you're not scared to do your part...several readings a week, then this will be a great class. His tests will prove you were paying attention.
He's flipping amazing! He has a great sense of humor. I can always have a nice chuckle during his tests. I would definitely take his class again!
Every hard on test, gives study sessions and study guides. study your butt off for his 3 test and he gives you a hard 4 page essay. If you dont got to class you will fail! Take lots of notes very talkive, barley uses the book.
Great professor for HY101! Tests are fairly easy if you make the effort to keep up with the assigned readings. Dr.Faust is funny and it lightens the mood if the subject matter is dry.
I came out with a C in western civ. I missed a TON of quizzes, but I studied hard for test and made good on them. He is a great teacher, GO TO CLASS and you'll be fine! I recommend him! Just dont miss 80% of the quizzes, they count all together the same as a exam!
Great professor. Likes to make jokes and certainly makes class a pleasure to go to. He gives quizzes once a week or so and a few major exams, but they are easy, even if you don't know much about history. He gives a few extra credit opportunities Highly recommended.
I loved Dr. Faust! He has a great sense of humor and makes history (something I'm not interested in), quite interesting. Make sure you read the primary documents online! Quizzes are given about once a week, usually on Fridays. Don't miss them because they can't be made up!
Dr. Faust is hilarious. He is witty and makes class so very enjoyable, even though History is not something Im interested in. He is great! I would rec. him to anyone!
Dr. Faust is a great professor! Reading of textbook and primary documents is important and there are plenty of quizzes and extra credit opportunities to boost one's grade. No essay assignments. I learned a lot in his class! :D
Makes small stuff not on the test a big deal in lecture. Go to the study sessions and he's more precise in his teaching.
I found Dr. Faust extremely easy. I went to class nearly every day missing a total of 2 classes. I am an engineering major, so science and math are my gig. He made history pretty interesting. He cared little about dates and details but, more about concepts. If you cant critically think his tests will be very very hard. If you can you will enjoy.
Makes history interesting. Funny and nice, willing to help anyone. Wants you to understand the big picture more than anything. Quizes everyweek but are really easy. Tests are difficult so read the chapters. Did not like that SI's grade tests.
Don't buy the book, its online for free on his site. Pay attention to what he says in class, and writes online. Don't pay much attention to the book.
not a bad teacher just hard to listen to and test are crazy hard
Really good teacher but he is tough as far as tests and what he requires of each student. He is very helpful during office hours though.
TAKE THIS CLASS. That's all you really need to know. He makes an awful subject very interesting.
Great guy who is crazy funny.Loves to help you if needed.
He's very nice, funny and informative but his class is not "easy". You have to work and EARN your "A". That's COLLEGE. Attendance is not mandatory but go to class anyway. There are lots of info he does not put on his ppt. His exams are rough but if you read the chapters, attend class and study, you'll do great! He provides A LOT of extra credit.
Interesting teacher during lecture. Gives an online quiz every week. Exams are brutal and study guides are just lists of everything in the book. Exams are essay short answer and mc.Doesn't take attendance but gives an inclass quiz almost every week. Way to hard for a 100 level class. But does offer extra credit.
Online weekly quizzes were killer for a class in which attendance isn't mandatory, as well as pop quizzes. Easy class, just a LOT of work for a 100 class.
First off, to everyone who has said the exams are "super rough," the study guides he provides are nearly verbatim to the exam itself. Dr Faust is a super funny, understanding and interesting professor. The work load consists of a weekly online quiz and pop quiz (in class), several of which are freebies. I strongly encourage his class!
Funny guy when it comes to teaches but he wanders off subject a lot which makes the lecture hard to follow. Weekly online quizzes which are killer. Doesn't take attendance but gives in class quizzes often. Exams are tough If you're a huge history buff then this is for you, if you just need this class look into someone else.
He's a great history teacher and he gives tons of extra credit. He does in class and online quizzes so you have to make sure you're reading, but other than that I would definitely recommend him.
Really cool dude, online quizzes are not that tough, all the answers are in chronological order in each chapter, Did not take notes during lectures, just waited until he handed out study guides the week before, prepare as soon as you get them and youll do fine :)
He is HILARIOUS. It's really not hard if you do what you're supposed to. Tests aren't difficult at all. Gives tons of bonus opportunities. Online quizzes weekly that are easy if you do your reading. Attendance isn't mandatory. And he's super helpful when you need him. Totally recommend taking him.
Loves history and teaching. Alot of online and in class quizzes. Attendance isn't mandatory but you never know whether you are going to miss a quiz or not. Not super clear on what's on the test but this class is almost impossible to not pass.
Faust is so nice...become friends with TA! it helps...test are hard format wise but he gives bonus DO ALL THE BONUS!!!!! came out with 99% for 102...and a 95% for 101 he is the best... and i dont care for history!!
Attendance is now mandatory for this class. He takes it through the clickers. The in class quizzes are pretty easy, but the online quizzes are very hard. Do not assume you can just find the answers as you go. I was not a fan of his teaching style as he pushed his religious beliefs in class through lecture. I came out with a C though
Professor Faust conducted debate lectures. Instead of saying this is how it happened, he used historical documents and helps the class decide how we think it happened(You should learn a ton). His exam format is challenging. I suggest you do ALL homework; attend ALL classes and study sessions; and do ALL BONUS WORK. If you have questions, ask him!
When I tell you I failed every exam, I failed every exam. I passed all the quizzes, did all the extra credit, attended seminars, and went to class. Still came out of there with a B. Do everything he says you'll pass. Tests are awful and lectures aren't the best. There's no reason you shouldn't pass.
He is awesome!
I have had him for three classes now and the only thing that is depressing is that he doesnt have anymore classes that are at a high enough level for me to take. He is a blast to have as a professor!
Weekly (easy) quizzes, gives TONS of bonus, tests are HARD. Know the study guide like the bible. Attendance grade (clickers) and pop quizzes. So, come but you don't have to take notes. Quizzes are usually on material covered that week. It's ok to not read primary documents. He will work with you to get the grade you want.
Tests are super hard! Be ready to answer 5-6 essay questions for every test. Attendance is mandatory and he checks it by i-clicker in the beginning of class so you can't be late. Do all(4) extra credits and online quizzes and you guys should be fine!
This class is the absolutely worst. His online quizzes give you a boost, he seems to leave the option "show feedback" open and you can get all the answers. You get 100 points if you don't miss more than 5 classes. I failed 2 tests and still passed with a C because of extra credit and attendance points. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do the extra credit! I
Dr. Faust was an awesome history teacher. He does clicker questions for attendance so be there on time. He gives you a study guide for every exam a week or 2 prior to exam and gives about 30 points of extra credit all semester. He uses power points for lectures but need to pay attention.
Sweetest professor I have had in college. I had alot of medical issues and he was more than happy to be accommodating. His syllabus seems tough, but he doesn't stick hard core to it if you have good reason. Would suggest him to anyone!
Very helpful. Open to outside of class help. Great lectures. Hard test! All fill in the blank and essay. Gives plenty of chances for extra credit. Attendance Matters!!!!
Dr. Faust is one of the best professors i have taken at USA! He is so helpful and will work with on anything. He always gives opportunities for extra credit and Gives various grade boosting online and in class quizzes. Very funny guy and gives great lectures. If you are willing to study and show up to class hes an easy A.
Dr. Faust is very nice & he's a pretty cool professor. But I will need to warn y'all that his class in general can be ridiculously hard if you don't attend his class everyday or if you don't pay attention much. He gives out quizzes randomly almost every week & his test is super hard that you have to actually read the chapters to understand.
Delightful class. I thoroughly enjoyed his teaching style. He is lecture heavy but makes it interesting and has a great sense of humor. he offers lots of extra credit; tests are what you expect from the reading assigned, and the lecture notes. I did minimal brush up studying about 2 hours before the test and passed.
I absolutely LOVED this class. His lectures are really interesting and kept me entertained all semester. You can't really afford to miss class, he takes attendance and the lectures are super important. He assigns a lot of reading both online and in the textbook that will be on the test. If you go to class and do the homework you will be fine.
If you take this class to actually learn something whether you are a history major or not, Dr. Faust does an awesome job of explaining the emergence of western civilization. He has an open mind and is willing to help as long as you are not wasting everyone's time. Easy A if you pay attention and are there to learn.
Dr. Faust was a great professor. His love for history really shined through in his lectures, which made them more engaging. His lectures were information heavy though, because there is so much material to cover. You really have to attend class and take notes to pass. You will have to put in time and effort for this class.
Is this guy serious? It's a 100 history class. All exams are fill in the blank. You'll spend hours and hours on this class. Way too in-depth, unnecessarily hard for people that HAVE to take the course. I'm positive a history major couldn't pass his exams . Reading never stops. DO NOT take this guy.
This class was my one and only C I received last semester. Funny likable guy, but hard as hell. Do all the extra credit. That is the only reason I passed.
A lot of people find his class hard but if you go to class take notes and do the study guides very manageable
Probably the professor that best handled teaching in the midst of a pandemic. Readiness quizzes are open response but easy if you do readings and attend/listen to the lectures.
I loved taking Dr. Faust's class. Lectures are entertaining, funny, and made me approach history differently. He's very nice and when I went to his office hours he was very helpful. Very lenient about still giving attendance credit even though I came to class late all the time. Difficult tests but they helped me develop study skills as a freshman.
