Very interesting and fun teacher
very good teacher. funny, interesting, helpful
Great teaching approaches! Loved the regressions!
Decent Lecturer: however, thinks he's a Southern Baptist Preacher. Church is all well and good, but I don't feel like a sermon in econ class every day, especially in Memorial Hall which seats 200 easily.:)
sometimes hard to understand the accent. overall a great professor
Gileete is the ****!!!!
Great Teacher has everything figured out.
Cares only about his ratings. Completely worthless when he isn't being rated.
He was very helpful. He genuinely likes Econ. Go by his office hours and he will help you out with what you don't understand. Probably better to take him in the smaller sections of the class.

Awfull exam reviews....not quite concerned with students understanding material...
I wish he had better reviews and explined things a bit more...I would have enjoyed it more if he didn't assume that everyone already knew...and if you didn't he would occasionaly make fun of you....
Good teaching methods with instruction clearly reflected on the exams. Going to class, however, is like being in a fire and brimstone church, with lectures riddled with Christian metaphor and sounding like a sermon. Scary but informative.
awesome. one of the best econ teachers I have ever had.
He's an ass.He expects everyone to know all. he is vague and gives usless information. Exams are a #(*%&!!! Do not recommend him, there are other better teaches in the ECO department.
His drawl is a of distracting fusion of Ted Kennedy and Foghorn Leghorn.
even though the material may be hard, he attempts to clarify it--offering help if needed; work load is quite heavy, however
Teaches the easy material in a confusing manner. His tests seem set on trickery. Do not recommend taking him (especially if you ride the bus and come to class a couple minutes late, you will miss his quizzes).
Dr. Gillette was the best overall professor I've had here at UK. He actually tries to teach and besides that his in class animations are hilarious. Definitely take him.
He is the worst teacher and always talks about baseball and other useless information. the tests are SOO hard and he acts like he is a preacher and is tryin to preach to everyone. its hilarious and everyone looks around asking what the crap hes sayin cause no one can understand. dont take it!!
I thought he was a great professor. Very entertaining and helpful. He is genually concerned with making sure everyone learns and understands the material. Just an all around nice guy. The exams are not impossible but the final is difficult. I would definitely recommend him.

Great teacher. Complex subjects made simpler with his use of everyday analogies that are HILARIOUS! Take him in a smaller class so he can get to know you. Speak up, he likes that. Nice guy. Do the work and you'll definitely get at least a B. Best teacher I've had at UK.
Great teacher but you must put time into his class. Will not be easy on you.
awsome, Hilarious, good teacher, great stories. FAIR!!! He expects some effort out of his students, but it's worth it for a great teacher. One of my favorites.
Same as previous, but in this class you do an interesting project, and he does a great job of handling it. BTW: always take the guy in a small class if a large is offered in anything he teaches.
Gillette's crazy wild, little hard to understand (verbally), and has a great class.
neo-conservative viewpoints constantly find their way into the instruction, he is subtly but very passionately a proponent for radical free trade and thinks money is the only way to help other nations, truly evil
the most bias, narrow minded teacher i have ever had to endure...avoid at all costs
Class was pretty straightforward, can't figure why people think its extremely hard. He does provide all the practice tests you would ever want to take. As for having quizes at the start of class, if you know that's the way he administers it, get there early. He is a bit animated, and his tests can be tricky, but if you take a couple practice tests and take good notes, a B is easily attainable. He knows the stuff very well, very clear, a great teacher. More challenging than the standard easy A class.
Bob is great.funny man too.although i wish i had him in a smaller class.material is not to hard the way he teaches it gives lots of practice test and CPA's which are great.I recomend taking bob
Bob Gillete is one of the worst Economics teachers at UK. His lectures are very unclear, he makes no sense when speaking, as he sounds like Foghorn Leghorn. He is a hard line Christian Conservative, and is very biased, brings religion into Economics as well. He thinks no one in the class with less than an A is smart. Avoid Gillete.
Take his small class if you can.
Bob is the best teacher I have had at UK. The only people who hate him are those students who either never come to class or are just plain lazy. He is a great speaker and keeps you interested in the subject. His class is challanging but if you are mature and ready for it you will have fun!!!!!
DO NOT listen to any of the bad reviews for Mr. Gillette...he's the BEST most interesting teachers at UK. The class gets a bit difficult towards the end, just make sure you go every day it will definatly pay off!!!
To sum it up he is makes a lot of politically incorrect statements, and he isn't very approachable. You can't understand him, and he doesn't try hard to help you. I loved econ before this class. Unfortunately most people ahve to take him, so do your CPAs and try to be one of his favorites (basically suck ass like Meg and the fly did this past fall)
The most passionate teacher I have ever had. His lectures are very helpful so go to class. Definitely take him unless your very lazy.
Great professor, never a dull moment, but the class itself is difficult but he made economics fun, don't know too many that can do that.
okay teacher...really smart, but the material is tough, unless you study 8 hours a day for one class already...study and do well, tests are killer, though....kinda goofy sometimes
He can't help it that ECO is boring, and makes a really good effort. It still doesn't change the fact that the class is very difficult, his exams are very tough, and the material is painful. Sounds just like a southern preacher.
I HATE Econ, it's hard, but this class was better than 201 with Hoyt I thought! Exam 1 and 2 weren't bad at all just study. Look at his old exams that he posts online. The final would have been better if I had more study time. Nice and funny, class time goes by fast. He does lecture kind of preacherish but it's amusing. I probably got a B, maybe A.
Not clear at all, had no clue what he was saying half the time because of the way speaks, tests were hard in comparison to the way that he taught the class.
I loved ECO 201, and really enjoy Economics but Gillette is annoying. His quizzes and tests don't match well (people usually do well on one or the other), he's a jerk, and a pompus ass. The only people I know who enjoy him were the teacher's pets-you'll understand once you're in the class.
Class was boring. It was hard to pay attention at times. Hard to understand him at times, but he still knew what he was teaching about.
Dr G is possibly the best lecturer I've had. He makes econ funny & is fair whn it comes to work. The ppl on here giving grief r ppl who probably don't do the CPA's & are just wanting an easy ride.If you know and learn the material you will do well. If u hav a work hard play hard attitude u wil love this class! Dr G rocks - Top bloke
Gillette is not only very narrow minded when it comes to politics and economics, but very politically incorrect. And he admits his extreme biases in his work. Don't take his section if you want anything except mainstream economic thinking. He raises the roof, too. Not funny.
A good lecturer but test were hard....not a class to breeze through, be prepared to make an effort!!
OMG! This guy is HILARIOUS!!! If you're taking 202, you MUST get him!!!
Dr. Gillette is amazing! He is one of the best lecturers I have had. He makes lectures fun and interesting. Take his small class. Don't expect to get an easy ride by just doing the CPAs and not studying. The first exam is easy. The second and third exams are impossible.
Not a bad professor, fairly thick southern accent makes him sometimes difficult to understand. Tests are not extremely difficult if you take the time to do the CPA/reading and make sure you understand the concepts. Tests do require you thoroughly know the concepts, relatively complex questions compared to similar econ courses. Overall decent course
He's a very good teacher. If you want a good grade on your in the class do the CPAs, read chapters and study for tests. If you understand what you are doing his class wont be too bad. Like I said he's a very good teacher, but he also let you know where he stand in the political world. So if you're very strong minded about politics his views wil
Dr. Gillete is the most entertaining teacher that I have ever had. It is impossible to get bored in class or not pay attention. His class is somewhat difficult, but if you work a little bit at it it's not so bad and you will learn a lot about economics. The only criticism I have of Dr. Gillete is his views on economics tend to be very partisan.
Outstanding professor. Probably my favorite thus far. Loved his class!
very tough class, if you dont work hard and study hard you will do poorly in the class.
Great guy, great class, great material. Very funny prof that likes students that work hard. The material was tough so class is pretty much manditory. Mult choice tests, no need for book, just take tons of notes
Gillette teaches Economics, he likes to force his extremist political views down your throat. He is EXTREMELY narrow minded and prefers preaching/talking about girls over economics. Moreover, he is impossible to understand and uses stupid slang terms. Don't take his class unless you want to be called "gang" and hear "let's rock'n'roll" every day.
I dropped this class after trying desperately to understand what he was saying, but to no avail. His accent is absolutely horrible, and the echoes in Memorial Hall don't help at all. I wasn't about to get a bad grade because the professor couldn't articulate his words.
Avoid at all costs. This guy is a jerk to the extreme. Much better professors in the econ dept.
Dr. Gillette is a fantastic professor! He makes the material come to life. Although at first, difficult to understand, and may seems pushy with his political/ spiritual views;he has been my favorite teacher at UK. You have to come to class and you have to study! If you don't do these you will do poorly.
This has been the best class I have ever had because of his teaching. Never has econ been so real and alive to me. He is a spectacular teacher because he knows how to go at things from many different ways. I think most people avoid him because they're lazy and dont want to work.So if you're lazy then yes, avoid him but if not then prepare to learn.
First of all, whoever said he had partisan political views is wrong- he shares the same views as every economist in the world. Dr. Gillette is a great teacher and a great guy. Attendance is not mandatory, but there are 3 tests and 2 inclass quizzes. You will learn the material if you try, and he is hilarious. I would recommend this class to anyone.
He is impossible to understand. His accent is horrible which makes the class even harder. The exams are not easy at all, so you really do have to attend every class. I debated dropping it because it was so impossible to understand him. He knows how to relate the information to the real world, but you don't know where he's headed half the time.
One of the best classes I had at UK. He is difficult to understand at first, but if you go to class you will pick up on it. do the cpas and use the old tests.
Rambled on a lot about nonsense and was very unhelpful, not understanding, and not easy to work with when I had to miss class due to a surgery.
This guy is hilarious and makes this subject shine. He sometimes makes some controversial statements, but you can tell he has a good heart and means well. However, he is fair and teaches the subject very well.
YOUVE BEEN WARNED!!! Horrible teacher, knows his stuff tho. NO concern for students. Strong accent hard 2 follow. DO NOT TAKE!!!
Plain and simple, Gillette is a fantastic professor. Im as lazy as they comes, but this guy brings the material to life and I didn't miss a single class all semester. His class takes work but it is interesting and totally worth it!
The best professor at UK, without a doubt in my mind. I took ECO 202 at Memorial Hall with him and loved it, but taking him in a small environment is even better. Makes everything interesting, and works with you on the projects in 391. This is a great class that I highly recommend.
Great teacher, loud and engaging. His accent is pretty hard to catch on to at first but after a few classes becomes more clear. Attendance is not mandatory but helps a lot because he gives you the answers to your daily worksheets and quiz/test questions. Great professor for this class.
If you don't fall behind in the class and attend lectures it's easy. If you decide to skip and slack off, it's hard to catch up. He asks about 4-6 current events questions on each exam, if you're not in class, get the stats from a friend. I thought the tests were worded tricky. He's an interesting teacher.
If you take him, don't take the Memorial hall section, take the smaller class. You'll have more work with his worksheets, but it will pay off. His southern accent is heavy, but he is energetic and keeps you engaged in class. not boring.
great guy. crazy accent. hardest open book labs ever. semi-decent exams. rec you taking a smaller section as opposed to mem.hall sec. more work but he's all over the place. you'll want that one on one.
Horrible professor, and I say this with no biases due to a grade, political views (yes, he is very political), etc. Accent is tough to comprehend, especially in memorial hall where you have an echo. Teaching was mostly off-topic. Tended to emphasize the algebra-based things more than concepts. Good guy, bad teacher. Teaching style is big-picture.
I didn't think his accent was too terrible, but I was in the smaller section. The CPAs are very beneficial even though they are a complete pain to do for every single class. Focus on the material he goes over in class and what is on the CPAs for tests.
Great professor, one of my favorites at UK. His classes are very interesting and engaging, and he is genuinely concerned about the progress of his students. He knows the material extremely well and is able to communicate his knowledge to the class in a fun and interactive way. Take if at all possible!
great teacher! he knows his stuff and knows how to keep the class interesting. as long as you do the c.p.a.s before class it is easy to keep up with his lectures. classes are not mandatory but he goes over some stuff not in the book that are easy questions on the tests. yes, he has a accent but you get over it after the first week.
Just too hard too understand
When I began this class, I hated Gillette. He's hard to understand and he acts weird in class (telling stories, etc.)... after a few weeks, I realized that he is one of the best professors on campus. He truly cares about his students and he wants you to do well. Just don't take him in Memorial Hall. It's utterly impossible to understand him there.
He is the best professor I have ever had! I went into the class having no desire to take an econ class and left his class deciding to add an econ minor. He made me love economics! Hes a bit hard to understand sometimes but extremely intelligent and very funny!
easily the most entertaining professor you will ever have. However this is a hard class i'm an econ major and 4.0 student and i'm ok with my b. make sure you go to class and DO THE CPAS and know them front and back for the tests.
multiple choice on his tests are extremely tricky, have to really work hard to even attempt to do well. Very nice and understanding guy if you go to his office hours but really hard to understand in class esp. Memorial Hall section. Great guy but not so great of a teacher in my opinion, a lot of the course is self taught, recommend takinga diff pro
I had him for a small section and I loved him. He is a very good teacher and knows a lot about Econ. He is hard to understand at first, but he is hilarious and you definitely won't be bored in class. He really cares a lot about his students.
Anyway who claims this class is "hard" is an idiot. I easily got an A. If you do well on the quizzes it's cake. More importantly, he is more than likely the best Economics teacher at UK. He's a super nice guy who makes coming to class fun and relates to his students better than almost any teacher. HIGHLY recommend.
Most entertaining professor i've ever had. Makes going to class enjoyable. Best advice for the class: DO THE CPA'S AND GET BONUS POINTS ON THE ONLINE QUIZZES. If you do both of those, you can still get an A in the class with mid B's on the tests. Favorite class thus far at UK.
The only thing I do not like about this professor is his actual speech. He is really hard to understand. He has a southern type accent and when he gets really excited he studders and yells. It sometimes makes learning what hes saying hard. Other than that, the CPAs and quizzes are not terrible if you work hard. Not a skim by class.
Great professor, maybe the best I've had at UK, and thats going all the way back to when I was a full-time student. Gets you into the material, CPA's are helpful, online quizzes have built in extra credit and he doesn't test you over something if he hasn't covered it. Come to class, pay attention, do CPAs and you'll pass with an easy A.
Dr. Gillette is so much fun! A very exciting and energetic teacher. He makes sure that everyone understands the material and prepares us well for the exams. I HIGHLY recommend this class!
Absolutely love him! The class is so entertaining, but you are learning the whole time. A great professor! With class discussions and doing the CPAs studying for the tests isnt bad at all!
Bob loves his students and will do everything short of interpretive dance to make his points clear. Yes he has a Virginia drawl, but he's perfectly understandable. You will LOL at his examples comparing econ to finding date on a Friday night. It's easy to skip class and get behind (those are the ones complaining about his accent/personality).
GREAT PROFESSOR. He is awesome. I absolutely loved the class. He is fun and so intelligent. I learned so much about the real world that I never thought I would understand. I recommend that everyone take his class, it's that beneficial, really. It's a little tough but so worth it. I got an A pretty easily though.
Gillette is a crazy man, but very passionate about economics. Examples are relevant and easy to follow. Definitely do the CPAs before class, though, to be able to understand what he is talking about. If you do the CPAs and attend class a decent amount, youll do fine. Pick up old exams if he has them at Johnny Print--super helpful!
Couldn't understand the man over the microphone. Never went to class. His test are very reasonable and not too bad.
I loved this class through Exam 1, and then it became "Graphs 101" and I lost all interest. Gillette is hilarious and the material isn't too difficult if you keep up. You get used to the accent
Great teacher. Really loved attending his class. Class attendance is important and he gives you everything you need to get an A.
Hard class, but he lets you know exactly what to expect for the exam. No exam surprises and grades very fair. He'll answer any questions you have.
In his upper-level classes, Bob can be a bit of a hard grader. He certainly doesn't cut you any slack on the exams. Be prepared for some of the hardest undergraduate examinations you will ever come across at the University of Kentucky when taking his class. However, as a person, other than his grading approaches, he is a wonderful person.
Best real world event teacher at UK
LOVE Bob! He's hilarious.. and I'm not one to usually laugh at teacher's jokes. He subtly sneaks life lessons into his lectures but isn't obnoxious about it. Relates the boring subject to real life events like sports and marriage. TAKE BOB! He's the bomb
Bob can be really intimidating. Some say the southern accent is hard to understand but I don't think so. We are going into the final and I still haven't figured out how to successfully study for his exams. He's a nice guy and is entertaining, he just doesn't explain himself very well in my opinion.
I really like Gillette. It's advised that you attend class, but not mandatory. I went to about 20% of the lectures, did all my homework, read the book and took notes and I got a B. Some topics are confusing, but Bob is good at clearing things up in class. He really wants to help you do well, but you have to help yourself first. Be sure to study.
Please avoid!! I agree with most of his views etc, but he is a complete jerk and he really thinks he isn't. He can be funny, but very demanding and overbearing. Thinks we owe the university to speak up and voice our views, but if he disagrees, he will let you everyone know!! If people don't want to talk, then he gets mad and freaks out. WOW!
HIs grading policy is whichever is lower: average of exam grades or average of homework...that is your final grade. They don't average each other. His tests are insanely difficult but his homework forces you to read the text and he gives helpful examples in class. He forces class discussion which I personally hated
He is really not that great. Funny at first but it got old. He doesn't make much sense at times and hard test. Take someone else
Hardest class I've taken. It's hard to follow him in class because he goes off on a political/religious tangent every 15 mins. Any real learning is done outside of class from the homework he gives out daily. Exams are incredibly tough but fair. Would make fun of the Asian students in class but acted like he was joking, except he did it everyday...
Bob is a fantastic professor and his 202 class is the reason I decided to major in Econ. He catches flak for expressing his viewpoint occasionally, but he always does so respectfully and in context. If you do the homework and go to class you'll know the exam. He makes material very relevant. He also gives great advice, an all around stand up guy.
Really, genuinely passionate about the class and his students. Sneaks in life lessons, but not in a "preachy" way. All around good professor and you'll really learn a lot
Gillette is the best professor I've had and it's not close. He knows the material well and is great at explaining it. He is also great at applying economics to teach students about real world issues while not going off topic. Also is a great guy and is very helpful if you talk to him.
Great guy and willing to help you out. Tests are pretty difficult, a lot of the questions come from examples he gives in class. Reading the book will only give you background knowledge for his exams.
One of my favorite Classes I've taken! he is passionate and loves to teach, and it comes through. Pay attention, you will need to work a little for an A, but if you pay attention in class, you'll be fine.
If Bob can't get you interested in Economics, no one can. He gets off on his tangents, of course, and he may occasionally tick you off if you have thin skin or you're not a conservative, but he really is worth having as a teacher. Learned a lot, highly recommend.
This class can really be confusing if you don't keep up. He provides you with fill in the blank print outs of the power points but he takes a while to get through them because he just loves to talk. His exams are fair and he tries to really help.
I really enjoyed this class and I think taking it with any other professor would have been a mistake. He made everything extremely clear and used funny stories to help explain economics. I was never bored during lecture, which in my opinion is necessary for passing.
Bob is very animated and definetely not afraid to speak his mind. This being said, I enjoyed every single one of his lectures and actually feel as though I learned a great deal from his class. You'll have homework every night that must be turned in, meaning if you miss, you won't get credit. Exams come straight from lecture, but must go to class!!
Fun, great older teacher. Cares about students, easy.
Bob's the man, no doubt.
Bobby G is a MUST take. Lectures are long but if you pay attention he will really help you UNDERSTAND the information and teach you a few life lessons as well. Study the notes and the tests will be fine. He is an awesome teacher, praying I get to take him again for another class.
If you take ECO 202 definitely take Bob G. The class is demanding and requires you to go to class and pay attention, however, Bob makes it very interesting and engages the entire lecture class. He is a genuine guy and cares about his students. He is the absolute man.
Probably the most I've gained from a class in college. Macro is just a life-changing course and Gillette just makes it great. Honestly, consistently preparing before class and actively listening to him during may be all you need to get an A in the course. He is very engaging and that good. His exams are difficult but he prepares you.
Gillette is easily one of the best professors at UK. I would recommend forming your schedule around his class because he is so good.
He is an awesome teacher. Very fair. You can get an A in his class but you have to do a little work for it. I averaged a 97 on his exams
Favorite teacher I have ever had. Taught me so much about Econ and life in general. Always had the whole class laughing while still learning.
Bob Gillette is a funny guy. Knows what he's teaching very well. Explains the material alright. Only negative really is that he will go off on tangents about random things, which only distracts from the material in lecture. You don't need to go to class. Homework sent out in groupme. Old exams are VERY similar to the exams you will see.
Bob G. is the man! I absolutely loved his class and the group project. He's so funny and a breath of fresh air. Not for anyone liberal or thin-skinned. Pretty easy grader and straight-forward on exams. Gives reviews.
Great lecturer. Entertaining and funny. 356 total in the class and 56 is homework, 300 are exams so you have to do well on exams to get a good grade. Exams are very similar to old exams but still are fairly tough, especially the final. First exam is cake. I didn't open the textbook and got an A. Just studied old exams.
He's cool. Can be very rude. Exams were fair
BOB G is amazing! Hes funny and tries to make class as fun as he can. He really loves econ and it shows! His tests are tough and you have to study quite a bit but it's doable and he is helpful if you seek the help. Attendance isn't mandatory, but definitely recommended. Never heard of anyone not loving this man and his class! Bob is a must take!
The first few days of Bob's classes are fun because he's a very bright personality, but that doesn't take away from the fact that his classes are pointless. All he does is ramble about pointless things then blows through slides and valuable info to make up for time lost. He also tries to trick you as to what is on the final, so beware of that.
If you are willing to complete the homework and go to class, then you will get at least a B. If you study for the tests, you should get an A. He was the best economics professor I have had, and I will always try to take his classes.
Bob G is the man. Hands down my favorite teacher so far. He's smart and a fantastic teacher- he can make a 400+ person lecture hall feel like a small classroom.
He's so annoying and rude in lecture. He is hard to understand because he talks way too fast and also has a weird accent. In lecture, it's very hard to follow along. I do not recommend taking him as a professor if you get annoyed easily. Hw is easy and exams are not too tough since he gives you practice exams before. He is just rude and annoying.
Hands down the best professor I've had at UK so far. Do not take his class if you are offended easily because you will hate him. Very interactive in and outside of class. Absolutely hilarious. Would highly recommend 10/10
Gillette is honestly amazing. I hate econ and he finds a way to make it interesting. If you read over his notes he gives you & do the homework, you'll get an A. He is a preacher so you can tell when he lectures but he makes class interesting & actually cares about you outside of class. Would take him again for sure.
Even if you are not an economics major he finds a way to make the class fun! He has a great personality and you can tell he truly cares if you do learn something from his class. Wonderful person, homework occasionally. He doesn't post full powerpoints online so it is recommended to go to class so you can have the blanks on the powerpoints filled in
He is a great professor , Lectures are fun and his slides summarize most of what you need to know.
If you are an Econ or Math Econ major like myself, this man is a must. As far as learning Econ goes. He gives you handout of the slides every day. Provides the slides online. He even gives you practice exams that have questions that will be exactly on the real exam. However, if you struggle in math & using graphs, this class will be challenging.
He's a really nice guy but I'd be lying if I said his class wasn't more difficult than the other eco391 classes. His test are all essay style and no multiple choice. There are very few points in this class so one bad exam can screw you. Also be ready to get roasted, he has a hilarious sense of humor and loves to joke on people.
lectures are far beyond entertaining
Gillette is my favorite professor at UK by far! He is so so knowledgeable on the stuff that he teaches, and he genuinely wants you to succeed. He is a fantastic lecturer, and he gives you print outs to follow along. His classes are fun but also extremely well taught. Even if you aren't an Econ major, take this man's class. You will love it!
He has an accent, so listen closely until you get used to it. He's funny. Packet every class to work on. attendance isn't mandatory. tells you what material will and will not be on the test in class as he lectures.
Bob is hilarious, he loves talking about explosive diarrhea in class. Extremely passionate and knowledgeable. Like the super smart hilarious great uncle who flys in for the hollidays. Go to class for two reasons.. 1. You will love listening to his high jokes and learn much more. 2. He gives out step by step note packets that make tests cake.
Amazing, funny teacher. Only thing is, he makes concepts super easy in class, but the exams are terribly worded and don't reflect the level of difficulty of class.
This class has just 7 homework assignments and 3 exams and is hard to get an A in if you don't ace the first two exams. Bob is incredibly funny and makes you want to come to class to get his notes and hear his stories. His lectures include only the information that will be on the exam so you're much better off studying the notes than the book.
Gillette is very nice and his class is very easy but his accent makes him impossible to understand. I stopped going to class because I couldn't understand a single word. His exams are also very difficult and there's only like 6 grades for the semester.
ECO 202 is much harder than 201. Bob's accent was hard for me to understand and took some getting used to. There are very few grades in the class so if you don't do well on the exams, you wont get a good grade. He picks on people and makes fun of them as examples
Love bobby great guy, material is easy to grasp if you go to class and take the notes. No attendance ,but it's in your best interest to go to class, I think he's pretty funny. He's from the south, but if you are too you'll understand him.
Bob is by far my favorite professor, it is refreshing to have an instructor who isnt a liberal lunatic (which is hard to come by at UK).His lectures are based in real time data which is much more appealing to me as a student. Be warned if you arent from the south you will struggle with his accent, he has a very strong drawl! Take his class!
Bob is one of my favorite professors that ive had at UK! Most lectures are boring but he always makes it interesting and uses real and current data that helps you learn the concept while also giving you what is going on in our economy. Definitely take him if you can!
Bob has by far been my favorite professor at UK! He tells hilarious personal stories and cracks jokes to make difficult economics concepts relatively easy. Only 8ish HWs the entire semester. Definitely take Gillette if you can!!
This class is HARD. If you are not good at economics then I don't recommend taking him. Every class he gives powerpoint note packets and is not very good at teaching the material. Be prepared to learn it on your own. He's a good guy but his tests are very difficult and basically account for your entire grade.
Bob is one of my favorite professors at UK. He is so caring and wants you to do well in his course as long as you're willing to put in the effort. He makes it known that economics is not for everyone, and he realizes this, so his tests are not super specific or detailed. if you study the power points you will be fine if you're not an econ major.
Changed the course of my life with guidance and inspiration. He is the reason I ended up working in financial markets for over 20 years. Great communicator. Brilliant instructor.
Bob is very passionate and knowledgeable about macroeconomics. It could be tough to understand him at times. He prints out packets of notes for you to fill in. This makes studying for tests much easier. Very little homework, but tests are in-depth.
Now, I normally don't write reviews for this kind of stuff but I need to warn that this class is the hardest I've taken during my time at UK. The grading is wack, since 70 points was counted as homework and 300 was tests. Dr. Gillette himself is a nice guy, but the class was ridiculously hard for no reason.
Bob was a good economics professor. His lectures were always interesting and he was passionate and knowledgeable about what he was teaching. Class is very test heavy so it's important to really study for all of them.
Note- I was the only one I knew in his class for ECO202 that got an A, in fact some of my friends failed the class with him. Yet, I absolutely LOVE this man. He is SO funny and wants to help his students. He goes off topic in lectures like all the time and made me want to go to class just to listen to him go on about whatever he did. I love him sm
The lectures were quite long and could be dry at times, but I loved Dr. Gillette's personality. He's a funny guy who is passionate about education. His class can be repetitive though. PowerPoint-notes- homework ad nauseam until the test. Don't be shy to take his classes and participate.
Dr. Gillete is a professor that makes you want to learn. The energy that he brings to every class makes it clear that he truly loves educating. The class wasn't very hard as long as you showed up, participated, and studied his exam review.
Professor Gillette has been my favorite professor yet. His class isn't the easiest, but he brings so much energy to his lectures. To get a B or even an A, you really have to work for it. He prides himself in making sure students have a solid foundation in economics, so they can have educated conversations.
Bob is a great professor, and always brings energy and humor to lectures, even when content can be complex and boring. He makes the homework and exams pretty easy. Doesnt require attendance, but I always went to class because I liked his lecture.
He is the most funniest guy you will ever meet! He is so nice and caring and you can tell he truly cares for his students. I will say (at least for me) macroeconomics are a lot harder for me so this class was tough. If you pay attention and put the time and effort into studying you will do fine!
Best professor for ECO 202. Go to his office hours for help and guidance in the class. Exam heavy but if you pay attention and take notes in class, you will succeed.
He is ok. You basically need to teach yourself but he's fine for asking questions. He is really loud and likes to say some out of pocket things but mostly he's fine. You can't stay under the radar though.
The class honestly isn't really that hard, but the true agony of having to hear Bob's pastor ramblings will make it almost unbearable. He seems like a nice guy, but he will say inappropriate things in class, and they will be uncalled for and everybody will awkwardly chuckle. Overall, this class feels more like a sermon sometimes than a class.
Listen, I really wanted to love Bob, but I can't sit through another one of his classes. Hes a pretty good teacher, but the random political jokes are completely out of pocket. He really gives "Im a pastor" energy. Sorry bro
I absolutely loved Gillette. One of my favorite classes and professors yet. His energy gets me excited about learning and I added Econ as a major because of him. He prepares you to do well on tests with his notes and homework. He really wants his students to do well in the class. He is also hilarious
Bob is one of my favorite teachers/professors I've ever had. He truly cares about your success and pushes you to work hard. I really enjoyed his lectures and the way he presented the class material. If you have the opportunity to take him I highly recommend.
Dont be afraid to go to him after class he is more than willing to help you if you did bad on an exam. It is super important to pay attention in class.
He was a great professor. Gives practice exams for you to study. Give some effort and you can easy get a High B or evan a A if you read the textbook.
He is a character for sure. Attendance not required & lectures are recorded. I didn't read the book & did fine. He prints guided notes for the class, which is helpful. Exams would have been hard if I had skipped/not had the notes. So go to class, write down what's on the board, try to listen & you'll be fine. For exams, study notes and past exams.
I would not recommend taking Bob for ECO 202. His grading is the most absurd thing, the points that will count for your grade are only the exams. He's very difficult to understand and not funny. What he teaches in lecture does not help you on the exams, so I would suggest studying the homework and reading the textbook. He's also discriminatory!!

I liked Bob, but thought the material was super boring. He trys to make lectures entertaining but it can be hard with this material. His notes are sometimes messy. He wants you to succeed and is willing to help outside of class.
His lectures are mostly confusing as he is hard to understand and his notes are messy. He also will get sidetracked a lot during lectures which doesn't help, but the lectures are recorded to watch later. The course is mainly graded on exams as the only other grades are from a total of 11 homework assignments, 8 points each.
A nice man I'm sure, but often goes on tangents about things that are not quite relevant to the coursework. Often has to being his statements with "I don't mean this is a bad/offensive way". Attendance required to get credit for homework assignments. Doesn't do much if any in class review before exams so you're on your own for that.
Gillette constantly gets side tracked during lectures. He is unorganized and messy. Offers no extra credit. Not very accessible outside of class. Tough exams. Your grade is only test and homework. Homework is easy though. Makes some interesting / offensive comments during lectures. Attendance is not mandatory, and he records his lectures online.
Very straightforward exams and homework. Homework is word for word in the packets you fill out. The exams are word for word in the packets. HE LITERALLY TELLS YOU WHAT QUESTIONS WILL BE ON THE EXAMS DURING LECTURES. Very similar to past exams as well. Lectures are also entertaining. Does not get much easier.
I loved bob
Professor Gillette's ECO202 class can be a mixed bag. While his lectures can be entertaining, they can also be disorganized at times. Exams are tough, but the guided notes and past exams are super helpful. Definitely use Unstuck ai for extra test prep.
Bob is quite the character. He can get pretty sidetracked, and makes some comments that suggest he is slightly out of touch with reality. If you do the practice exams and listen during the lecture, you'll do fine on the exams. He can just be hard to follow.
He's a good professor but gets easily distracted and makes the lectures confusing. He doesn't put the assignments in so you can't calculate your grade. If you can deal with a lecture of constantly getting sidetracked and being confused then this class is for you
Bob is so personable, he definitely is attentive. Go to lecture I cannot stress it enough. AND HE TELLS YOU WHAT IS ON EXAMS!!!
This class was overall just not a great experience. It is very confusing to understand what you do and don't need to know. He rambles on about the most random things all through out his lectures. Also says some weird things like that he likes to look at women's feet and certain things that turn him on (I have the evidence.) Doesn't answer emails.
Hes a pastor at his church, super funny even if you are not religious. Not the nicest guy sometimes, he doesnt like when people come late or leave early, he told someone to not come back multiple times. super good lecturing, and the exams are really straight forward and easy. highly recommend.
Good at keeping you engaged with the lecture and keeps it entertaining.
He is an older professor that can get political at times. Overall a good professor and really cares about his students. He wants us to succeed. Lectures are good, can be confusing and boring. Tells you concepts that will be on exam(s), so pay attention! "Master the slides." If you know and understand the concepts from the slides, you'll be fine.
Absolutely incredible professor, honestly one of the best I've ever had, he really has a passion for the topic. Highly recommend going to the lectures they are super informative and he tells you exactly what will be on the exams. Your grade is only determined by a few things but nothing is really hard if you just pay attention in class.
