Fun class. Very easy and informative. Funny professor.
This class is a great freshman class. Just pay attention and you'll pass. This guy is nice and makes the class pretty fun even if you're not into jazz.

He is really childish. Alot of time he wastes time pointing out if your late or something irrelevent. Reminds me of elementary school teacher. Not very professional. Must my his book which isn't even accurate.
He does do some silly stuff as far as tardiness, but I dont think it uncalled for. A lot of folk wander in 10-15 minutes late, so I think he's justified. As far as his book is concerned I think its a conflict of interest of sorts.
OMG! professor is really weird... its an easy class yes but he does pick on stupid things... and talks way too much about stuff that is irrelevant... he drags on! its like he wont let you go even if he ran out of things to say... BLAH!
The living Garfield the Cat that knows quite a bit about Jazz. Great class, really laid back in the afternoon, cool guy that tries to make best of time. I had a great experience and hope to take his History of Popular Music in Spring.
This guy makes me sick! He is so annoying. He contradicts himself alot! The class is easy but he will make u dislike it. Don't even think of getting out early either. Every second is used in that class. He thinks he is the best bass player ever, and he isn't even that good.
esay class for an art credit. It is boring at times, but you can pass. profssor is a littl e full of himself as a bass player
This is a very eassy class to take in order to earn a performing arts credit. Th eteacher is a little full of himself, but other than that it is a great class to take, I'm glad I took it.
Real laid back and not afraid to let our a bad joke. Really informative about Jazz, and very slack on grading. This guy is the prototype for the perfect college professor.

His exams are pretty simple and if you go to class often he gives out free quiz grades when he thinks there are too many students absent. He is bothered if you walk in late or decide to leave, just wait till he turns around, if you do all of your projects your set he made the final exam optional.
Grabowski is a cool cat, as he says. Just dont make him mad like some hoodlums in class that dont stop talking or passing notes. If you stay off his case he is the easiest teacher in the world. You just sit back and listen to music in his class. Tests are pretty simple too.
I loved this class. He seems intimidating at first because he is very strict with coming late and leaving early. He hates cellphones ringing and he will have a heartattack if you come in through the front door after a certain time. Go to class and just listen...very interesting
ok he thinks hes funny n hes not, the class is pretty interesting though, not a problem, he does drag on in class about irrelevant things n hes a hippy hes pretty anal too but hes tolerable, if u have no other choice, take the class its not too bad
hes nice but corny. If u can take him during the summer a or b. and take the long class. I thought it wud suck sitting there 4 almost 3 hrs, but he lets us have a break and he lets us out early. quizes r easy as long as u read n pay attention in class. he really luvs jazz so he sometimes goes into la-la land thinking about it. but u will learn.
He cancellled the damn final exam, and its some**** cause i studied my ass off, he can be very last minute @ times and sweaty too, u'll still learn tho, just keep u cellphone off cause he'll make u look stupid if u don't...
This professor was horrible. All he did was talk about his own experiences as a musician. He doesn't know how to teach. He can to class drink almost every day. Dont take this class!!!!
Grabowski rocks! He likes to cancell classes randomly and is very laid back. if you pay attention and read the book, you'll probably get an A. He is very knowledgable about what he teaches and he makes it interesting to learn. its good to have a teacher who has lived what he is teaching!
This class was pretty easy except for the pop quizzes, but they are hardly worth anything so they don't really matter. He grades papers easily. Sometimes classes are cancelled. He let some skip the final if they did not need an extra grade.
helpful and knowledgeable all books are accurate and so is his info I fact check everything! great environment really laid back. you will do well in this class if you care about doing well in this class
This guy is awesome! He takes attendance but I never went and there was a paper to write and I never did it. I went to class twice and I didn't take my midterm. I took my final exam (open book) and passed the class with a B+
cool cat giving out cool grades, i got an A but i deserved it.
HE SO0O0 EASY AND HES A COOL CAT! HES NOT HOT THOUGH!
This teacher was really cool, basically if you go to class, take notes and do his papers you'll pass with an A. His lectures are pretty interesting and his exams are easy, they go with what he talks about in class. Overall he's a great teacher who knows his Jazz and he's very laid back. After taking his class I now want to go to New Orleans.

This guy is cool...all you do is take notes and listen to jazz music each class, he's funny at times...can't complain about the course, it's so easy.
Great class, great teacher. Even if you dont like jazz you will get a good apreciation of the artform that it is. It is not an easy A, but if you pay attention and read the book it will become easy. You can tell how passionate he is for music everyday in his class
lives back in the 70s....thinks he is cooler than he really is.....but who cares cuz hes easy and the final was open book
A very easy class, if you just read your notes once before the tests. Helps you form a good appreciation for jazz and tells jokes along the way. All you do is take notes and listen to music. How hard can it be?

Grabowski is a cool guy. He loves Jazz and he will actually make you love it no matter how hard you try not to! It's a fun and informative class!
Very easy, take him during the summer. This class is informative and you'll get an easy A Very fair, doesn't ask much. Just make sure to read the chapers he assigns and you'll be fine. The only thing about him is that he sweats alot, but u can tolerate that.
This guy can be a prick.. dont walk out of his. if i could do it again i wouldnt tae the class
hes really cool, just don't get on his bad side, and whatever u do, DONT BE LATE! he'll embarass u in front of the whole class! the class was interesting and easy if u just take notes and study them. its obvious that he has a gr8 passion for jazz, and he made our final exam optional!! that was awsome
The teacher is VERY anal about people being on time,no one leaving early, and talking during his class. Its almost like kinder all over again! But the class itself was really easy. Its a lot of information but its not that difficult. If u write ur papers you get an A on those and the midterm u only have to study a little to pass. The final was optional
he's a nice guy, just dont show up late cause he'll embarass you. if you act like youre interested, he'll like you and give you an A.he assigns 2 essays but i didnt do either and he still gave me an A. 2 exams that are VERY easy. i didnt even by the books for the class, all you have to do is show up to lectures and listen.
I recomend everyone to take this class. If you cant take music appreciation then take this course. At first the class may seem kinda hard becuase he makes it seem that way. But the class was very easy. AT times you may think that your behind because you havent done any work dont worry, there isnt much to do. He was a great professor and very fair j
hes cool...i enjoy it and would recommend it but whatever you do dont talk or leave early from the class cuz he will hunt you down...its pretty funny when he chases the person...but you will enjoy the class from movies and the concert...
Do not take this class online. He never answers emails and is not clear about the material on the quiz. Most of the class complained about him not answering his emails.
He is a passionate teacher who makes you listen to a lot of different styles of jazz and teachers quite well. However, he focuses a bit on dull educational videos in the beginning and the tests have unexpected questions like the artists on a specific album. He gives lots of projects. Also, he interrupts the class when a mere student whispers! jeez
Cool guy. Class makes you feel like your in High School again; no talking, no passing notes, dont leave without permission. Control Freak! Pay attention and your fine on the tests. Projects were easy. Interesting class.
The guy is a pretty good teacher. He didnt give us a final cause we took a vote to not take it. His tests consist of a music listening session where you write down what you hear and you have one term project that all u do is pick a band and do a project on them and turn it at end of year. He is a good teacher, keeps it interesting, and u either
This guy is pretty weird/funny...but easy. He is just anal about some things like being late and leaving early but otherwise he is a pretty cool guy and you learn all kinds of stuff you never thought you wanted to know. He brings you into his lectures and makes them very interesting. He cancels classes and ends them early alot. I'd take him again.
Took the class online and was told it was easy, but the quizzes a lot of the times would have nothing to do with the material and that really wasn't good because the quizzes are a major part of your grade. Otherwise your depending on your participation scores in order keep your grade up. I suggest taking the actual class, not online.
This guy is very interesting. He makes odd jokes which makes the class fun sometimes. You must follow along in the book and study. Wouldn't recomend unless you love jazz or have to take this.
Grabowski was great! Just don't be a ****head, show up to class and don't talk for an hour a day and listen to him. His stories are interesting, and he knows his stuff. The class was one of my most pleasant experiences my first semester. Highly reccomended.
He really enjoys the material he teaches, and wants you to learn. He's been teaching the class for years, his tests aren't hard. He does care about attendance, but he makes it fun to come to class so you actually want to come.
really cool guy. dont leave class early, come in late or talk and you'll be fine. the actual material is interesting. just read the book and listen to what he says in class.
Absolutly cool guy.... He knows the stuff and really loves what he teaches... He is also a pro Jazz musician... just read the chapters so the lectures will be more interesting, take notes and you will get an A. :-)
Definetly passionate about the music. The thing is, he describes everything as being "beautiful", it makes you feel elated when you leave his class. The best is when you pop in a Nina Simone orArmstrong CD after the lecture in your car. TAKE HIM ONLY IIIIFFF YOU CARE ABOUT JAZZ. The man is a genius, with bad jokes and a seldomly appearing temper.
Very sarcastic, not funny. very strict on being on time and attendance. class lectures were boring cuz , although i like jazz, i dont want to learn about its history. sometimes cancels class. tests i barely studied for and got A. no h/w. one essay due at the end of the year. easy slack class
Wastes time pointing out if your late or if your cell phone its on your table (OFF) or if you are not taking notes he would want to see you after class, pretty ridiculous and irrelevant sometimes. But he knows his thing he is a musician, he loves jazz and he will make you love it if you don't already. You will learn a lot in this easy class.
As a fellow musician, I have much respect for this guy. Definitely knows his stuff, and if he doesnt make you love jazz, youll at least appreciate it. Very relaxing class. Plays alot of music. Tests are a breeze. Did not give many quizzes, but thats because we were lucky. Paper is easy. Overall this class, and professor, is definitely worth taking.
Slackest class at FIU. Everyone gets an A. Test are easy and straight from the book (which he wrote). One opinion based 2-pg paper. Sometimes gives pop quizzes so you sould attend class.
1 of my favorite classes ever! Teacher does want you to be on time but if you come in by the back door he doesn't mind , occasionally takes attendence, if you ask him before class to leave early he is completely understanding. Class is relaxing and fun - he loves what he does - test are fairly simple if you show up, read and study. Great class!!!
Great Class...Really Great Teaching...If You Dont Love Jazz Then He Can Make You Change Your Mind...Give Him Respect and Class Will Be A Breeze...Opinon Based 2 pg paper...50 question scantron test...Great Class
This class is easy but the professor is extremely pompous. This professor thinks he owns the world and everyone is at his beck and call. I got an A in the class but I dreaded going every day. Attendence is mandatory and he's a real jerk about it. If you want an easy class that makes you gouge your eyes out, this is it.
i took this class online so it is different i guess. BUUT...this guy answered no ones emails or gave a damn about our concerns. i had to call the office after 3 weeks of trying to get a hold of him thru email and i had to tell off everyone there. hes an idiot via online so whatever you do dont waste $300 and take this crap online because its gay
He's nice as long as you don't come in late. Tests are easy and pop quizzes help you earn extra points in class. If you want a class with easy note taking and enjoy listening to lots of jazz and blues music then take this class. There's a 20pt. Extra credit chance if you go to a concert and bring him a 2 pg critique with original ticket stub.
He is a great professor. I recommend taking him for his 5 o'clock classes because he is a little more lenient. He knows what he is talking about and uses technology to the class's advantage (take it and you'll know what I mean). Good Professor.
He got the class skippers at the end, I didn't have to take the final. A+ all the way, I actually rushed to class because I was going to miss the lecture and i'm not even that interested. But a wonderful class and it will be one great college experience. IF your to cool for school than don't take this class. just go and piss someone else off. Easy!
i loved this class..at first i found it to be a bit boring but after a while i began to love it..a very very easy class i got an A- and bare read anything..! all i had to do was pay attention in class...it was great..!
cool guyget him show up liek 75% and youll do fine. buy the book and hes cool
He knows his jazz and he'll get you interested in it eventually. Excellent class, and bebob tries to be engaging (sometimes a bit to hard) but overall he's reasonably cool. The class isn't super hard and you should be able to get a B without too much effort - a bit of extra effort got me an A.
I thought this class would be the most boring class ever! It turned out to be pretty intersting and he's actually kind of funny...kind of. He makes it easy to remember things and he tells little stories.
This semester, Professor Schuler lectured this class. The class was very interesting and I have grown to love Jazz. For a project, we had to attend a jazz concert and write a review. Attendance is taken so you must go to class or you will lose points off your final grade. I would recommend this class.

Grabowski is very passionate about the subject.. you don't really even have to come to class just read the book.. the only thing you'd miss out on by not going to class is that he plays examples of different music styles.. recommended for an art credit
Took it online, nice guy that knows his stuff. Unfortunately, he got locked out from the course so wasn't that accessible for the second half of the semester, if you had a question. You have to attend four jazz forums at FIU, write weekly discussions, and take 5 moderately challenged quizzes. Interesting course, jazz grows on you.
Great teacher. You kind of have to work hard to get an A though. As long as you do what he says you'll be fine. The class average is about a mid-B. Just don't underestimate this class just b/c it's jazz..
This class was not an easy A.But you can attend concerts for extra credit.Few quizes and 3 tests. He gets really frustrated when anyone makes a peep in class- way overexagerated!he was helpful and really KNOWS and LOVES what he does.
He is really passionate about what he is talking about. He teaches you a LOT about Jazz. Easy class to take during summer. He tries to seem harder than he is. But as long as you read the easy book and listen to what he talks about in class you will get a good grade. Recommended anyone take it. Jazz grows on you!
Attendance=mandatory. Must take notes & buy 2 books, including the "Course Pack" that he made: waste of money, cuz it cant be re-sold back to the bookstore, but its USEFUL. He lectures at EVERY class, plays some 2-3 minute-long songs few times. Knows his stuff well. Very anal about ppl being late, talking & using celphone in class.
he is very strict on attendance, but pretty much the class is easy..take lots of notes!!..he knows what he is talking about
Take notes especially the characteristics of that jazz. Listen. Go to class! Tests are not hard. Had to write only one paper at the end. Cool Dude! Always jammin' with Dizzy and Miles
Awesome teacher! you have to show up to class and on time. the course book and your notes will help you pass. He's a really cool dude. I loved his class
Made me feel like I was back in high school again. You have to ask to leave early and if your reason isnt good enough he gives you a hard time. Very strict on attendance & tardies. Made the final damn near impossible. Asked for dates. Other than that, relatively easy class. He wont let you slack off though. No eating, talking, texting in class
Great teacher....loved the class, he made me love jazz even more. attendence is mandatory ,especially the day after a test. you have to read both books and take notes and your straight for the semester. you just have to write a 3 report which is So easy. This class is an Easy A....
great teacher
not my favorite professor. the class is EASY. He likes to hear himself talk and hes ALWAYS right.
He was one cool cat...lol.The class was fairly simple and he was straight forward. Good guy, fun class. I reccomend it. The only thing is you have to learn the artists names, style of music, and era in which they preformed. Not too difficult, but a little confusing if you dont pay proper attention to detail.
He was a great teacher with funny stories, even though I studied for the final for 12 hours on what he told us what the final was going to be on and the day of the final he decided to change the test structure. The final paper is easy.
Knows his stuff, has done good research and plays great music for majority of the class.
He's a pretty interesting guy. Loves Jazz but appreciate all music...Projects are easy and class is good for those who enjoy the history of american music... An A unless your incompetent.
The class is easy, but the professor makes you feel like your back in high school all over again. There were two papers, BOTH mandatory, random quizzes, a midterm and a final. If you love Jazz, take this class, if not, its up to you. Ii didn't really change my opinion on the music, but I did learn a lot.
Learn the musicians cause he screwed us over on the first test.
He screwed us over on the final exam. he changed his testing scheme. so, i bombed it. but he curved the grades, because i was failing and i got a B+. lots of reading and 2 papers. he's not very interesting either.
THIS PROFESSOR IS HORRIBLE. HIS CLASS IS NOT THAT DIFFICULT BUT HE IS ALWAYS TRYING TO SHOW OFF AND ACT LIKE YOU ARE IN MIDDLE OR HIGH SCHOOL. IF YOU COME IN LATE HE MAKES A SCENE OF YOU, AND HE IS TEACHING HIS OWN OPINION ABOUT JAZZ NOT WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED. IGNORANT PROFESSOR PERIOD.
The class isnt hard as long as you read the textbook, you dont even have to take any notes during class just appear as you are. The catch is that you have to go to every class attendance is taken and always be on time and DONT TALK! He will single you out and make you feel like a little kid. I wish I would have take music appreciation instead!
You'll like this guy if you appreciate rude humor. He's kind of a jerk about NOT TALKING in his class, and he acts like a highschool teacher. But if you like music, you'll appreciate the class.
Extremely knowledgable in his field, you learn A LOT in his class. He's a prof jazz musician. It's pretty interesting, but make sure you are in class to take notes every day. Unique sense of humor, can be tough. Overall, it's a different experience and if you're just trying to get an Arts credit out of the way, take this class.
if you want to learn about jazz, take this class. this teacher really knows his stuff. he plays lots of songs too. oh and btw he's pretty anal about cell phones, talking, etc. this gets the class in order though and straight to a learning environment. oh and btw, only read the book he wrote not the anecdotes one. study for tests and you'll be good.
The class is super easy if you just go to all of his lectures and read the book that he wrote. Don't waste your time and money on buying the anecdotes, you don't use them.oh and also he lets you out of class early and his test are easy if you just read the chapters. He is kind of rude and has weird humor.
Class is easy if you come everyday. He acts like a jerk and is super anal about talking. Test aren't hard and dont buy the annecdotes book, you won't use it.
He likes to call people out alot if they are talking and do NOT buy jazz anecdotes book. If you read the book and go to class you should be fine
VERY ANAL TEACHER! DOESN'T LET YOU TALK, USE CELL PHONE, COME IN LATE, ETC. ITS LIKE BOOT CAMP! TRY TAKING A DIFFERENT CLASS IF POSSIBLE. KNOWS HIS MATERIAL VERY WELL. IF YOU STUDY, YOU WILL BE PRETTY GOOD. DONT BUY THE JAZZ ANECDOTES BOOK. YOU DONT USE IT. HE ALSO HAS WEIRD HUMOR AND IS OBNOXIOUS. TREATS YOU LIKE YOUR IN HIGH SCHOOL.
He is alright, but sometimes he can be a pain in the ass. Take the class if you are interested in jazz. you will survive it and It is also good to come to class because he plays different types of jazz music which will be on the test.
Very disorganized teacher!Hard tests and misses class a lot. You are responsible for covering most of the material. I will not take him again. :(
He is a jerk, dont but annecdotes book, and is absolutely ANAL about talking. He is not very reliable and the tests are a little hard. But all you have to do is study. Read the course pack since youll have to do it all on your own anyways. But he checks attendance and gave some random quizzes.
he's alright, likes to hear himself talk & only himself bc if he catches someone talkin all hell will break loose. the class is relatively simple he knows his stuff. read the course pack and you'll be fine the jazz ancedotes book dont bother buying. i suggest you take this class in the summer not in fall or spring its not worth it.
Okay this is a lecture class he requires you to buy his coursepack and the jazz anecdotes book, dont buy the jazz anecdotes. You need your coursepack and be present in class, sometimes he gives random quizzes and he might count attendance. Hes nice and I learned a lot but dont talk in his class he will call you out in front of the class! lol
He treats you like he's still in highschool! I hate that. But, he's overall a good teacher and his explanations are crystal clear. We only used the book to study from and that's about it.
This professor is veryy weird he acts like his students are in kindergarden always looking over your shoulder to see what your doing. His communication with his students is horriable(he waits till he gets several of the same email and then answers) he is annoying he does know his material very well and it can be intresting but over all easy class
MOST ANNOYING TEACHER IVE HAD AT FIU!!!.Don't be late to his class and don't leave early..don't even go to the bathroom or breath too loud or there is a quiz!
TAKE MUSIC APPRECIATION. -_-. He's annoying, he's demanding, he talks a lot. BUT, he knows his stuff -- will learn alot. Take if there is no easier option. It's overall not bad but extremely annoying.
Grabowski is awesome. Midterm and final consisted of listening to jazz music and pointing out the style. EASY! He's anal about attendance so he just gives "pop quizzes" every now and then, when attendance is low. But go to class, its an awesome interesting lecture. The guy is real down to earth and cares a lot about his students.
Even if you hate jazz, or have no intrest in it, at the end of the semester you will like it, guaranteed! You listen to music & watch movies that relate to jazz. At times he cancels class. He's not as bad as some people make his sound. My advice is to take him at or after 2pm if possible. He loved his 2 & 3 pm classes in the fall. You'll see why.
Not a difficult class. One midterm which is open book and a final. There are a couple one page papers. His youtube assignment is long and boring and so is the concert paper.
its easy but annoying. he is the oddest teacher iv ever had, nice and cool but yet verrry annoying. midterm is easy, its open book. for being a slack class he makes it seem so important, thats why its annoying. go to class and dont be late! we never had class on fridays which was cool, instead he extended our MW class by like 10 min.
This class seems to be a slack class , but it is NOT!He makes you write bs papers that he does not even check. He is very disorganized and his grading is unfair. Ps: some people in my class did not do the papers and they still got the same grade that those who did it. Apparently Bob gives a collective grade, the same grade to the whole class.Annoyin
This class is a waste of time and it is not as easy as it seems!
i cant stand how he treats us like we r in high school he waste so much time from his class to call out people walking in late n checking laptops to make sure ur not surfin around everything he told us 2 study wasnt on the test. he says ur time left on the test like this: 30 min left, 25 min left, 20 min left. made me frantic. DONT TAKE HIM!
He isn't as horrid as everyone is making him seem. He's easy, just lectures a lot and takes attendance almost everyday. You have "papers" to do which are JUST paragraphs long, two max. His exams consist of identifying the jazz style. ITS EASY. Just take notes and you'll be fine without the book. dont buy the jazz anecdotes one i never used it.
The class isn't as bad as everyone thinks. takes his job a little bit too serious. music isnt bad. lurks over ur shoulder if u have a laptop. TAKE NOTES, dats the only way to pass. book is useless. specially anecdote book. attendance is mandatory, takes it randomly. midterm openbook. only 2 projects. easy class.
ok so if u feel like being bored out of your mind, take the class. other than that this guy is very boring and incomprehensible. the midterm had material he never covered. also its an auditorium class and he talks way too low and doesnt repeat what he says. very annoying class
Auditorium class. Only lectures. DO NOT BUY THE JAZZ ANECDOTES BOOK! It is of no use and is a waste of money. If you take good notes and just listen you will pass everything. 2 papers due the last day. Open book midterm of 50 qs. Plays music and videos. The class itself was not that bad, i liked it.
ok so this class isnt as bad as everyone says it is. He's actually super easy all you have to do is sit and listen to his lectures. plays music in class and puts videos. but overall cool class and interesting at times. i actually liked jazz in the end
He's a cool guy. Not a difficult class at all; very chill. A lot of lectures, so take good notes, cause thats whats on the tests and quizzes. He's anal about keeping it super super quiet during tests and takes random attendance, so dont miss class, cause it's worth points. midterm and final are super easy, 2 simple papers.
Great professor, lectures a lot and all his quizzes will be on what he has taught, otherwise it can be found in his text book. Easy class I would recommend it.
He's a cool guy, I had no interest in the class until I actually took it, he made the class interesting. He only gave us two quizzes through the term, his only to exams were a midterm and final and a couple of easy term papers. You didn't have to take the final if you got a 84+ on the midterm. He treats his classes based on their behavior! Be good!
He is a pretty cool teacher, but tends to get pissed off by people talking or texting which is understandable. Pretty cool class we had 2 quizzes and an open book midterm which was extremely easy, you don't use the jazz anecdotes book at all so don't even bother buying it. easy A and pretty chill class since he goes of topic a lot of times.
this guy is awesome. i took this class over the summer and it was sooooooo easy. only like 2 quizes and a midterm. and also like 2 really easy papers, i wouldn't even consider them papers but i guess they kind of are. he goes off topic alot and we spent alot of time in class listening to Jazz and watching videos!!!! do it!!!!!
Very good professor. DO NOT get the jazz anecdotes you don't really need it unless your REALLY into the class. Makes the class interesting nice clips and nice lectures. over all super laid back and the concert is pretty interesting if you like music.
Took this course online & didn't enjoy being ignored by the professor throughout the entire semester. I'm aware that others in the class also felt this way. The course has a lot of potential and is very straight-forward. While I did learn a great deal about the history of jazz music, I would've appreciated ANY form of teacher-student interaction.
Anal about everything.Takes the class too seriously.you have to go to a concert&write 2 pgs on it.watch 8 youtube videos on performances&write a page for each video. rude, inconsiderate, did i mention anal about everything. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. you are a million times better off taking music appreciation with Luis Gomez
This class and teacher are fantastic, i knew comments about him being anal would appear. He does care about you walking in late, but if you sit down and behave (blasphemous i know), the class is a breeze and you learn about jazz. This class is just great, nothing but easy papers and easy exams. Looking for a fun and easy class? This is it.
Awesome professor, super easy, tells his lectures like a story. Just come to class, take notes, and do your homework= A
Great professor! Knows a lot about music history. Always a fun class. Learned a lot
He's a great teacher in the sense that his lectures are very interesting and told like a bunch of stories. He is VERY anal about talking/ using electronics during his class, but he's a nice guy. This class is very intersting if you've never learned about jazz before. I got an A.
Unless you actually care about jazz, this is not a fun class. The class does not go by fast at all. He'll walk around sometimes to see if anyone is texting. There is a midterm and a final. Random quizzes where you have to identify the type of jazz. You would be better off taking music appreciation. Not recommended.
I could not stand him nor this class. He could be a bit of a jerk sometimes and call you out in front of everyone if he saw you leaning over about to speak to someone. Apart from that, his stories were pretty interesting alot of times. However, if your not a jazz major, don't take this class.
The midterm is extremely hard.Learn how to read like the speed of light.Go to class, if you miss one day...it's over.Don't talk, EVER in his class. Don't record him.Don't get the jazz anecdotes book. Understand the different listening styles. I DO NOT recommend this class, even if you love jazz.
He wasnt one of the worst teachers ...but he does know how to teach. He tells stories relating to the work which makes you remember. He does like to embarrass people in class though. So be quiet and just listen..
He is very rude and a complete drama queen. I advise you to choose a different class for your arts credit because you will not enjoy this class. I regret taking this class. I was miserable. He seemed funny at first, but he ended up being just unbearable. And he holds the class after it's over sometimes. He has a colossal ego. Run while you can!
I took this class for Summer B. People complain that he's strict. Just don't be rude and listen to what he has to say. Don't have your phone out, just enjoy the music. He's a really nice guy. He let us use both books on our test. The class isn't difficult. I use to HATE jazz but after this class, I loved it. Go to class, you won't regret it!! :)
He can be intimidating. He demands that you pay attention in class. If you don't, he will point you out. Bottom line, respect him and he will respect you. The class is great with a lot of information. I learned a lot and so did a lot of people that didn't like him. Take the class it's well worth the tuition and more.
EASY CLASS! If you need an upper level elective take this! That being said you don't learn anything in this class. He barely ever responds emails and you wont know your grade till the end. Grading: 15% "participation" 15% weekly music logs (1 paragraph on what you listened too) four 3 page album reviews. very lenient grader (you should get 100%)
His class is very easy, doesn't take much effort to get a good grade. He's very knowledgeable about the subject and throughout his lectures he often shares funny stories and things that have happened to him. He has a thing for manners, so he doesn't allow the usage of cellphones or talking during class. I definitely recommend him.
This is a very easy class. Just attend the class so you can take notes of his lectures. They are very thorough and you'll need them for the tests. Also, read the chapters he assigned. That said, you should be fine with the quizzes and tests. If you need to ask him anything just talk with him before or after class.
Easy class. Just show up and shutup. Be sneaky with your cellphone if you're going to use it, he will call you out. You can answer all test questions from the book but he often checks attendence so just go.
Can sometimes be hard to deal with, he's very picky with phones and taking notes, but believe me, you want this professor. I expected to get a C- in his class and he gave me an A- It's obvious he wants his kids to pass
Took him Summer A. Just do your weekly blog and write your papers and you will pass. Do not panic if grades are not posted. He wants you to pass. He may not contact you immediately but do not worry. You can use textbook as a source.
Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy
EASY EASY EASY. Class Consisted of a few essays, group discussions and a weekly log based upon the music you listened to. Take him you won't regret it! Papers aren't too bad.3 pages long on artists you decide to write on. He doesn't communicate with his students..That's the only downfall.. But no worries I assure you this class is CAKE! Great class
He's awesome, very nice and sweet! Although he never answers your email, he responds to all your questions in class. He DOES NOT like students using their phone while he's teaching or walking in late, but other than that he's VERY nice! Not too much work is involved, and all the assignments are easy. He knows his subject very well (BY MEMORY)!
He was great and super nice. If you get to know him, he'll respond to your e-mails asap! For the midterm there was content that wasn't in our notes. He takes attendance. He knows his stuff by memory, he wrote the book so don't try to correct him! You'll love him. Make sure go to your jazz concerts which he always notifies us about if there are any.
Grabowski was a relaxed professor. Many times he did not show up to class but he would def. email the class if it happened. There aren't alot of assignments except the listening logs and the concert papers which are 2 of them. It is an easy class, the midterm was a bit hard, but the final was just a listening final, no history of jazz on it.
If you are not a music major or are extremely interested by jazz DO NOT take this class... He knows the material well but he is a jerk sometimes and he does not communicate with his students at all. Very disorganized and incredibly rude. The midterm and final were a nightmare because of the way he administers the tests. I regret taking him.
Nice guy, replied within minutes to my emails, and will help you if you ask. He won't check attendance but if you miss class you miss a lot of information. The way he lectures is great because the info sticks with you and the midterm and final (only tests) were easy. There is a term paper at the end, but it's really about quality over quantity.
He's not hard but he does expect you to read every chapter of his book. He makes you hear 14 hours of Jazz and there is a 8 page paper at the end. The amount of pages is an exaggeration because there is so much you can write about a concert. The class is not hard but some things are pointless.
THIS PROFESOR IS VERY FUNNY, GREAT STORIES, RESPECTED IN HIS FIELD OF WORK, INTERESTING CLASS AND GREAT LECTURES
Probably one of the best professors you'll ever have. The lectures are very long but he lets you out early when he is done. Amazing teacher and you actually learn from him since he makes the lesson manageable. Easy grader and as long as you do the assignments you should be good. There weren't too many assignments just writing. Very respectful
He has not graded a single thing yet and the semester is done. He provides you with his personal email and number to reach him and I do not even know why because he NEVER answers. Do not take him if you want to avoid stress.
Too many lectures. Took it in person but it was on zoom the whole semester. There are papers to do in this class but he never looks at it.
