Great teaching ability; however, he is an extremely tough marker and it is not consistent with other marketing teachers. If you want a challenging class, with tons of work Bob's the teacher for you!! Otherwise, switch!!
TOO MUCH HOMEWORK. EVERY CLASS. HARDEST MARKER EVER. even though he is a good teacher he is very tough and does not give any review. was told to know the whole book for final exam. had group work and one guy in our group did not do any work and was given the same mark; we would even lose marks if he didnt present with us, and he did nothing!!
Tons of work, easily 10x as much as the average class, no exaggeration & it's HARD. His group work rules are completely unfair, punishes people who work hard and rewards those who goof off or don't show up. Will punish the whole group for the actions of 1 person. Marks are unfair, easily 20% less than other classes, despite the extra effort made.
Bob is a had marker but an incredible teacher. You learn from him and it sticks in your mind. He challenges you and expects you to get better every time you do an activity. He listens and takes and gives feedback. While your mark will suck at the end of his class you will learn and can take his concepts to the field. Worth it in my opinion.
BRUTAL CLASS AND BRUTAL MARKER. Takes marking way too serious and if its not perfect to his thoughts you will not get the mark you probably deserve.
He really cares about his students, if they get the real knowledge or not. He marks hard but if you get through and do the work you will learn a great deal.
This guy is ridiculous. His averages were way lower and gave way more work than the other sections. Then when everyones failing, he moves the marks around until he's happy. He says the text book was wrong on multiple occasions, then gave you nothing to study but the textbook. Cumulative finals, no heads up on what to expect.
AVOID!!! Bob's central tendency marking is a GPA drag. Many exams are averaged below 50%. Interesting stuff and he knows it well. Class participation is punished with a grimace if you can't quote EXACTLY from the book. Doesn't give enough time to work on major assignments. AVOID!!
He's the kind of professor who makes you think about the material and memorize it, so I'd recommend only taking a class of his if you have an interest in the course. The projects were difficult but very informative. All multiple choice Q's came from textbook- long answer from the classes. Attend the review session if he holds one!!!
Horrible prof. Took this class online. He didn't grade anything all semester. I heard students had to complain in order to get their marks. I do not recommend taking a class with him if you wish to succeed.
Decently taught class. I recommend getting the textbook, but it doesn't have to be read in depth. For midtermsfinal you can pretty much read the bolded terms and get a grasp of those and you'll do fine. If marks are low, he boosts everyones, so that helps. Lots of poster work for some reason. Gives pretty good feedback. Engaging in class
The lectures are amazing and worthwhile, BUT you better study the entire textbook for the exams. Group work is extensive; applies real life skills. I enjoyed this class, but it was not an easy 'A'.
Here's the deal. Yes he is an extremely tough marker but if you go to him and catch on to how he marks and study hard you will be good. but what makes this class worth it is what you will take out of it. i have never had a teacher so passionate, and one who has taught me so much. he prepares you for life outside of school. not easy but worth it!
Made my first marketing class hell. We had two group projects going at once not to mention our midterm. His outlines are very vague for the projects and barely gives any indication of what are on his tests. He loves application questions. He does add marks to the tests if he thinks they are to tough though.
This is one of the most difficult classes I have taken so far. Bob is a very hard marker and doesn't make it easy for success. He does not have clear outlines for projects or exams. His exams are extremely tough in that if you don't have the exact textbook definition or "his" definition, the whole question is wrong. No part marks. Not an easy class
Final Exam? the wholllleee textbook. No guidelines, no outline, no indication of whats on the test at all. So many vague guidelines on group projects and completely random grading. Would never take anything with this prof again.
THE WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD AT MACEWAN. EXTREMELY UNCLEAR. The entire class had no idea what his expectations were for a group project worth 55% of our grade. If you ask him a question, he will just beat around the bush and not answer what you asked. Also, the class average for the midterm was 38%, ruthless marking - no part marks. AVOID!!!!!
Toughest grader EVER. You need to pay attention in class and learn your own stuff because he doesn't answer questions clearly. His exams are absolutely ruthless with averages usually below 50%. Be prepared to complete group projects with 5 confused teammates. As long as you show up it's passable with a decent mark. Oh and don't disagree with him.
Worst prof I ever had at MacEwan, and the most frustrating semester with him. Unclear expectations on group research paper. Did not give outline of what he wanted to see. Provided no examples. Average for exams was 40%. Would not recommend this prof.
If I had taken this class in my first year of university I would have dropped out of university. Unreasonably difficult marker, not clear at all, doesn't really teach anything and expects WAY too much of his students. I do not recommend him to any student looking to pass.
Bob is the reason I didnt do a marketing major. His tests are brutal, no outline of whats to be on the exams. I found that a few of his questions were taken out of the practice questions in the book. That being said, if you dont make sure you have the exact wording he wants, you wont do well on his exams. The final is the whole textbook.
Bob is very knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions. His lectures are extremely clear! He knows his tests are extremely difficult, but wants you to work for your mark. However, it is still possible to pass them. Group projects are extremely time consuming in this course.
Motivational, loves his work. Horribly unclear grading criteria- you literally have no idea what the project he's assigning is until you ask him 30 different questions
Tests were difficult because the teaching in class and the textbook content were not well aligned. Bob is very passionate about the topic but left the students lost in his disorganized ways. Group projects were frustrating, but fairly straightforward.
He doesn't teach much, and some of it differs from the textbook. His exams are basically not passable unless you have 2 weeks if studying time before hand.
Avoid if you can! Tough grader, unclear grading criterias, too many group projects that will take up all of your spare time. Lectures do not match with the tests. Does not give good feedback.
Bob is very passionate about what he teaches. It is a nice thing to see in a prof. But his lectures are all over the place, they don't align with the textbook but you are expected to know the textbook cover to cover. His test's are impossible. He rounds up grades because everyone does so poorly. Don't take his class unless you want a huge challenge

Avoid this professor in whichever way possible. I attended every lecture and I question why I did that because honestly, it was not necessary. You can easily teach yourself the entire course from the textbook and perform very well in the midterm exam and final. 2 projects were assigned where both had vague feedback and 1 was co-graded by classmates
Bob cares about the subject, and makes it interesting in a real life way, but the class was hard. GROUP PROJECTS! He doesn't follow the material closely, in fact he doesn't like certain things in the textbook, yet he expects you to be reading it cover to cover, without any reminders or mentions. The tests were HARD, and projects were long.
Textbook is mandatory because online quizzes are due before they are covered in class. Lectures can seem a bit scattered and off topic. Very passionate & friendly teacher!! There was big group assignments and instructions for the assignments and expectations were vague at best. Good teacher and possible to get a good mark but work for it.
Heavy group project class. Get group members who you know or either know what they're doing cause Bob is very nitpicky when it comes to evaluations. His tests are also completely textbook based so you can expect test questions that make no sense to what you have learned in class and they can be the smallest of things.
The HARDEST prof ever and I do not say that lightly. Unclear expectations for papers, expects you to know literally everything about marketing and analysis tools, doesn't actually teach anything, gets all philosophical and pissy if you don't read every single page of the textbook. Gives feedback but even if you follow it you'll still fail. HORRIBLE
What a great guy
Bob's philosophy is to make you do tons of work through the semester, then to not give any feedback or grades until later. He thinks that having students teach the class is a good idea. Additionally when you do get marks back never expect anything over a 60% and then expect it moved based on a curve. This will not happen till the end of a semester.
Bob Graves, the worst teacher that I ever had he is vague when he gives out assignments and he has quizzes for every chapter of the book in blackboard for almost every two days. This class requires you too put too much work that you wouldn't have time to do your other courses and for that very reason I dropped this course also the finals is 20 chap
Why are the quizzes due before the class is even started? How are we supposed to just know the material before we even learn it in class? Students struggle to just pass the quizzes which also count towards our grade. It is next to impossible to get a good mark in his class, AVOID AT ALL COST PLEASE.
Class taken 2019. No clear outline, but an extremely hard marker! Refuses to give credit where credit is due eg. gave a class max of 14/20 on formatting and writing papers b/c class did too well. Does not teach class! Has students present material, then says its all wrong. Avoid! Youre better off waiting a year than taking the class! P.S. Avoid
Bob made the course frustrating, but in the end, all of that frustration teaches you how to formate and write a proper business report. Listen to how he defines certain terms. Reiterate those defintions in your final (mine was oral, but the class gets to choose what kind of final). He's not THAT bad. You have to WORK for a good mark, possible tho
Drop his class
A little all over the place, but very engaging with the lectures. You will want the textbook and the slides he provides. Not always clear with project expectations until quite close to the due date. likes to engage in discussion in class regarding materials and related topics. I Recommend attending lectures youll get allot more out of the class.
Dr. Graves gives some amazing lectures, and always relates concepts back to real-world stories so they are easy to remember. He is excellent at explaining concepts if you need any extra help. However, some of his grading criteria is a little unclear and needs more explanation. Also, too much emphasis is placed on online quizzes.
Bob is delightful! He is very enthusiastic about what he teaches and he listens to his students and is willing to change around due dates to accommodate. textbook is necessary for weekly chapter quizzes (not hard and online). He makes you do posters (3 times) but its hard to get under a 90% so super easy to do well! Would recommend!
Took Bob's class for 310 and the lectures were SO DRY. Doesn't post the powerpoints before class which I did not appreciate and lots of presentations (4 total). Final is manageable but its directly from the textbook, including very specific cases. Start reading the textbook at the beginning of the semester because you'll need it.
Bob is a nice enough guy and he does care about the material he teaches. The quizzes are due before we have even had class on the topic, effectively making going to class useless. His final is almost entirely out of the textbook and on all 20 chapters. He is also an extremely tough grader who gives terrible feedback. Avoid him
Bob is a nice guy however does not know how to effectively teach. Extremely vague criteria for projects and doesnt mark things on time. You would think after so many times teaching the same class he would change his approach.
Bob is a super great guy. Really passionate about his lectures and he does a great job engaging his class. Marketing is a fairly straightforward class. You'll definitely want the textbook for the online quizzes.
Without a doubt one of the most needlessly difficult profs I've had. I don't necessarily mind a tough marker if the prof is clear on what their expectations are but Bob consistently marked papers based on extremely subjective criteria, the goalposts always moving. Dry lectures. Also wasted my one on one final spinning pointless anecdotes. Avoid!
Bob is a nice guy but his lectures are extremely vague and he expects way too much out of you. His work load for one class is equivalent to 3 classes and he does not help you with clarification on exam material. He did not even remember our class has a midterm until someone reminded him. Avoid this old guy at all costs.
The assignments are so vague and theres no point in attending the lectures because all of the quizzes are based on such specifics, some weeks have 4 quizzes due where each chapter takes a minimum of 2.5 hours and even after that youll get only a 80. I just wish there was clearer grading criteria with a rubric to follow and clear instructions.
Bob is a great professor. It is too bad I did not get to have his class in person. He has once a week in-person class, which is nice to get to know your teacher. He also used the program CATME to pick groups, and I think that was very effective. However, he did not respond to a few student's emails.
Assignments and lectures are extremely vague and lacked educational content. He tries his best to clarify things but it keeps on getting more confusing since 1) there isnt one text source that we get our info from, 2) he expects a lot from us with very little guidance, and 3) we learn most of the course material ourselves through peer presentations
Bob was a terrible prof, and online just made it worse. He gives 2-4 quizzes a week, and all are due on Tuesday in a M-W-F class (??). He did a lecture every Wednesday, but often went over topics that were on the quiz due the day before, so I found it unhelpful. His expectations for group projects are vague, and you teach yourself the course.
At first, he seemed like a pretty great prof. However, he marks assignments super late, the assignments are broad, and he's a picky marker for how broad the assignments are. This class was converted to online, and you'll drown in how many chapters are required to read each week. Quizzes are on material that Bob goes over the following week.
Drowning in textbook readings, multiple chapter quizzes per week. Very vague outline on assignments then was a very picky marker with little to no actual feedback. Would hold meetings on Wednesdays, to cover the previous Tuesday chapter quiz. Unhelpful when asked questions. Be prepared to teach yourself the course. No outline on final exam content.
Terrible class. Doesnt give clear expectations or helpful feedback. All textbook readings, and 2-4 chapters a week. Takes forever to grade, and gives no guidance on final exam. Better off just teaching yourself the class. He does one lecture a week and its on content from a quiz thats already due so its no help at all. No 0/10 option
Bob is a nice person, but not the best prof. He didn't teach any of the material, we taught each other through presentations. Going into the final I have one grade so far. Tries to be helpful, but his expectations are so vague it's hard to know what he wants. He is much better in person. I would take him again if it wasn't online.
Bob seems like a nice person, I just don't think he knows how to run an online class. We had a single mark received by the time we wrote the final - and 50% of our course workload came within the last week (including a 25% final). His lectures didn't teach us anything and he gave almost 0 info about the final and midterm.
Bob knows his stuff but he's a difficult prof because his grading is hard to judge. Rubric and feedback are radically vague. Furthermore, I have no idea how I did on my last few assignments & final exam because the grade came at the last moment of the semester. My GPA dropping is annoying but the most frustrating bit is not knowing how to improve.

He posted the final grade latter on myStudentSystem without giving up the marks for 60% of the class (group project and final) does not give feedback. AVOID HIM
Graves was a nice person however, I would not take his class again. He marks hard without giving clear feedback, he takes a very long time to grade our assignments (up to a month), and he did not upload about 55% of our grade until the deadline date.
STAY AWAY!! Bob will not respond to emails even though he clearly states at the end of the email to reach out if you have questions. Emailed him 3 times and he finally responded saying thankyou for being so persistent as he would not have replied otherwise. Marks way too hard and tests are unfair. Horrible professor and should not be teaching.

Would never recommend taking his course! The hardest grader with very unclear feedback. Quizzes are due before we even learn the material and are all based on the textbook so be prepared to read. You will go into the final not knowing about 60% of your grade. so good luck. Even though he's nice, AVOID IF YOU CAN AND IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR GPA!!!
What a hero of a prof.
Nice guy but honestly this dudes just a moron. Expects you to pretty much read the whole text on your own, schedules tests for the chapters you read first after the tests for chapters you read later in the term, etc. Not to mention his lesson plans are unguided af and make no sense. Avoid this dude he should not have a job lol.

Bob is the worst prof I've ever had, pretty hard marker, doesn't give any clear expectations and is very vague with what he wants for assignments. A lot of textbook readings with 2-4 quizzes a week. I also found him to be pretty rude and condescending when giving feedback on presentations. Would not tell us what to study or what was on the final.
He doesn't teach anything most of the semester it was the students who taught each other through peer presentations. Very unorganized it seemed like this was his first time teaching this class but it wasn't! would not take him again
Dr. Graves is very nice. His quizzes (sometimes multiple due in one day) have to be submitted by 7:30am on the due date. Not ideal. He is a difficult grader.
If you take this mans class, beware he doesn't understand how due dates work. Hound him for dates AND times when asking when something should be handed in. He'll literally set due dates at 7am and won't tell you that its not due at the end of the day like NORMAL courses.
literally the worst professor I've had so far, he's nice and he does explain good in class but that doesn't compare to the negatives, his class is so heavy on textbook, i feel like i am teaching myself this course and it's group project heavy, so many projects and unnecessary assignments! no study guide either for the final.. just read the textbook
The worst prof I've ever had. He never replies to emails, claims he's a "busy guy", and will not upload grades onto BlackBoard until after the final exam. He gives no direction, relies on students to teach each other, uses outdated material, and is critical on his expectations without stating them before you do any work. He needs to leave MacEwan.
Bob will reward effort and you demonstrating concept understanding. Class attendance is encouraged because his lectures differ from the textbook, but not drastically. I had sleepless nights over the individual and group assignments because he wants them structured with critical thinking and creativity. Product ideas are hard, but that's the point.

At least he marks fairly easily to just pass his students. Had students fill 75% of the class time with mandatory attendance in-class PowerPoint presentations.
Bob is a pretty difficult grader who puts a lot of emphasis on group projects. Definitely a class you have to put a little extra effort to understand the material as he only teaches to a certain point then the rest of the semester is group projects and presentations. He was easy to reach out to if you need explanation on certain concepts
Like others have said, Bob is out of touch with reality. I have never had this many projects with such little guidance.4 total; 3 individuals,1 group project with 2 components. He enjoys making his students figure out what he's looking for for the projects too, don't bother asking him anything cause he'll just answer the question with a question.
Notes were impossible to follow, multiple quizzes a week sometimes due on the same day. Whenever a question was asked there was never a clear answer.
Bob has some quizzes due every other day which you can do after skimming the chapter, but he doesn't teach you the quiz material in class, he teaches you after the quiz is due and handed in. He loves to answer questions with vague questions. He makes you present your marketing project with a poster, seems a bit insulting to a university student tbh

Terrible professor. Does not give clear instructions on assignments and is very nit-picky with his marking. His feedback is straight-out rude and pretty condescending. Most students didn't show up to class because he didn't teach anything during the lectures. He has quizzes multiple times a week all due at 7:30 am before class even starts.
Bob Graves lectures are about all there is good to say about his class, that being said almost nothing from his lectures were ever on quizzes or tests. He gives a more in depth grading criteria to his assignments after you have submitted the assignment. He fails to clarify his expectations for assignments leaving students stressed and confused.
Okay, you are here to check this prof out. I took his course before, and I am confident it is gonna be the same experience for you. -You have to do Presentations (be LOUD and CONFIDENT PLS!) -You have to play Glo-Bus an online practice marketing strat game (Play to WIN!) -You have to do Midterm and Final (SUPER EZ IF YOU JUST UNDERSTAND CONCEPT!)
Avoid taking Bob's class. Overall great guy though, but way too many online quizzes, boring lectures, and lectures do not correlate with quizzes whatsoever. My final is in 2 days and I have 0 marks to show on meskanas besides the online quizzes.
Graves was terrible, I have no idea why he's a prof. Going into the final with only 30% of our grade, grading criteria made zero sense for any of the group projects, hard marker, emailed and asked why I received a certain mark and never got a response, answers questions with questions, hates the textbook but tests you on it. Avoid at all costs.
you will need to make 3 separate physical poster boards for research group projects, and there is a large report and presentation near the end of term. doesnt give clear feedback and will literally give negative grades?? quizzes are easy and all based on textbook if you have to take him prepare to get a B at best
The issue with Bob is that he is extremely picky about terms, concepts and terminologies. He suggested a textbook, but I think in every lecture, he criticized its wording and definitions and preferred his own definitions and concepts. However, during exams, he told us to prepare from the textbook as well, and we were left confused.
- He complains about the textbook and doesn't teach it. Despite this he exclusively tests on it. - Hands out projects that have little pertinence to learning and feel like busy work. - Speaks down to you - Marks extremely nitpicky Most likely gonna end up with a B- or worse. I had a 3.75 GPA going into this for reference. I study hard.

Honestly just has a horrible attitude; his grading is unclear and overly complicated, he appears condescending and nitpicky, and always just a little patronizing. He always made you feel like you were wrong even if you answered correctly. Be prepared to do physical poster boards as well as a large group project at the end.
Lectures with Bob are decent, but the course is overly dependent on the textbook he dislikes. Assignments feel like busy work, and grading is incredibly nitpicky. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for preparing for his quizzes and exams. Overall, a frustrating class, but manageable with dedication.
Made the course unjustifiably hard. His lectures and even practice exams aren't helpful for his exams, leaving everyone feeling lost. Our midterm class average was supposedly over 30% lower than the other marketing classes. He also didn't input a single mark into meskanas before the final exam.
If you are looking for the hardest intro class at MacEwan you have found the professor for it. Bob is a good guy and lecturer. However, his way of evaluation is nothing other than insane. Two individual posters with extensive information that he will be ultra specific about, midterms and finals that have nothing to do with course content. Good luck
The whole year, we never did anything on the textbook, and yet the midterm and final were all based on the textbook. His slides are HIS version of the textbook that doesn't directly correlate. Although the projects within the class are handy he will rip through anything you do wrong. He is a nice guy but don't take if a first year.
Bob is a decent prof. If you enjoy marketing and are interested in the subject then Bob is the perfect prof. He is very engaged and very excited about the course. He says he doesn't like to use the textbook, and instead likes to give lectures, however 90% of his test questions are from the textbook, so be sure to read it.
I drove to this class with my eyes closed. Lots of group work and his feedback is good. But this class is ALOT especially for a intro. My recommendation is that it's not the class it's the prof. Don't do it. DONR DO IT
take this class only if u need so so so many group projects and tests will kill you. this is a into class and u still wont learn. goodluck you will need it more than u know it
He is very detail-oriented and offers strong critiques on projects (having a solid group helps). He prefers charts and visuals over long paragraphs. The tests are quite long, and the midterm and final are challenging, but he does curve. If you're confident in your work and able to stand up for yourself, you'll be fine in this class.
