Bob is the best english teacher I have ever had. He has a relaxed approch that makes you want to learn and work for him. I took him in summer 6 wk and it was intense, but I learned sooo much. Thanks Bob! Everyone should be lucky enough to be his students!

He is the best teacher I have had so far. He keeps our whole class into the topic. I always look forward to going. If you just pay attention in his class you are sure to get atleast a B. He is so awesome. If you every have the chance to take one of his classes do it!

Took this class during summer along with a stats class, B here and A in stats. There is a great amount of work in the class, but obviously it is manageable. A great class that was really intersting. He has an outlined criteria but grades you based on your improvements rather than against expectation

He grades tough. You truly have to know how to write to get a good grade in his class. however, he is really helpful and will clear things up for you if you don't understand...but definetly not the best teacher I've had.

Lyman is one of the great teachers at ARC.Out of the box kind of guy.He's going to make you think,so get ready. Everyone liked him though.Miss to many classes or skip the work and your DOA.I struggled but went to all classes and did the work and got a B. Lots of handouts, NO BOOK.

Great teacher though I disagreed w/ some of his opinions & interpretations. Lots of reading (apx. 4 books) but interesting especially if you like Eng. Easy to reach via email. Got an A but was accidently recorded as a B. He fixed it right away.

i really liked him. it wasnt an easy class, but it wasnt hard at all. read the books and take notes on EVERYTHING he says, they are all thats on the test. a little unclear on the two essays, but just talk to him about it cuz he wants to help you. he also had good books. overall i liked the class.

Lyman is a really great teacher. Don't take this class if you are looking for an easy A. The work is difficult, but he lets you know what he expects from the beginning. He gets the class very involved and interested. I loved his class, worked really hard, but still ended up with a B. If you really want to learn something, take his class

I found this class to be much more interesting and intense than I anticipated. He was very easy to work with, very excited about his subject, and very specific in what he expected. I highly recommend this teacher.

His class is quite interesting. He's not like those other english teacher where they still teach you like back in high school. I like him because he give you a chance to think for yourself. He's a great teacher and you could surely learn a lot for him. I recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn more about writing.

His Mythologies of the World class is absolutely fascinating, and I would recommend it to anyone. It does involve a LOT of reading, which can be difficult...

great teacher, will help you with anything. My advice stick with it because his class will build character and you won't feel like you are wasting your time. Also don't get frustrated with bad grades on your essays. For the final you turn in a porfolio, and are able to revise your essays. One more thing super hotty!!!!!

One of the smartest and most interesting teachers I have had. He leads great discussions in class by engaging students without putting them on the spot, and can easily explain something from several points of view without imposing his ideas. A very well read and intelligent teacher, but a friendly one who doesn't act superior like other professors.

Good instructor. 1 midterm paper and 1 final paper. tests are multiple choice, short and and essay. He gives a couple opportunities on tests for extra credit. Very fair grader. Would recommend.

One of the best and most intelligent instructors I've come across. Very out of the box thinking which demands attention and effort by the student, whichwill be greatly rewarded. Be prepared to work in his classes.

Great professor as long as you do your part you can get an A pretty easily. Just pay attention to the Oddessy and read some of the other books and you should be a ok.

Bob Lyman is a wonderful teacher. I took two classes from him and would take more if I wasn't transferring. The coolest thing about taking his class is that I apply much of what I learned from him (hero's journey, etc.) to books I read and movies I watch even 2 years after learning from him!

This professor is the best professor I've ever had. He gets right to the point, doesn't BS and is very helpful when is comes to seeing you succeed. I wanted to take him again in eng 300, but is teaching outside of school. He has taught my things I didn't even learn in highschool 10 years ago. Excellen, Excellent teacher, highly recommended

Took 345 and 392 concurrently. Class discussions help understanding of material A LOT, and Lyman gives good guidance in the discussions. Almost Socratic in his teaching (elicits answers). He really enjoys SciFi, so his interest in the subject helps the class, and he avoids being anti-religious in the Myth class, which could be easy in some cases.

he is not that bad.... as people say he is, they are just mad that they failed his class.....if you try in his class, you will at least get a B. i will take him again, he is a great teacher.....highly recommend!!!

Very nice guy, great writing teacher! Respects student's opinion, explains his reasoning, allows 2 pick your own stand. My major is accounting, but I enjoyed his class. He assigns a few readings, plans his assignments so you don't have to do'em in the last night! Kind and funny, speaks student's language, teaches how to think. I recommend this guy!

Takes the Honors class seriously; but makes sure everyone has an opportunity to understand the assignments so that they can't claim ignorance. Available almost every day for advice and honestly cares about each student and helping them improve their writing styles. The class itself is difficult, but Lyman takes it very casually. Stick with him.

Mandatory attendance was a concern because I work full time, but as long as you work hard and let him know beforehand you'll be late, he was cool about it. Lots of reading, but the subject matter, mythology and literature, was really fascinating. A superbly gifted professor who really knows his stuff and is passionate about it!

A very laid back guy who insists he professes to know nothing and therefore asks to be called Bob instead of professor or even Mr. Lyman. As for the poster that said Bob is not forgiving when it comes to missing a class or deadline. . . work hard and put in the effort and he has no problem with working with you. Take his class!

I took my Engwr 480 with bob and he was great! He really promotes the students having their own opinions and not writing just to please him. He is passionate but laid back. The class will defiantly challenge you, I had never before been challenged in an english class but bobs class really developed my skills. Take his class!

One of the best teachers I have had yet. I am not a reader. However, he does require a lot of reading of different books . He keeps everything interesting. He knows a lot. Open to all opinions. Laid back and straight forward. Warns you about quiz questions and what he is looking for you to understand. Never a boring or dull moment with Mr. Lyman.

Bob is a fantastic teacher. Going into a 302 class i was very nervous because im not great at writing, however, this guy has taught me a lot and given me more confidence than Ive ever had in english. He's very clear and helpful to all of his students. Do the readings and talk with the teacher and you will do just fine.

Bob is a great teacher (not that he will "profess" to know anything) but you really need to keep up with the reading to be able to contribute to class discussions. Otherwise, merely turning in the assignments and postings is enough to pass; don't overthink prompts and you're set for clear papers and some great advice from Bobo

I loved Professor Lyman's myth class. He is an awesome teacher, has tests but as long as you do the reading, you're all clear. I always got the impression that he was a little in to me. But other than that, he is an awesome teacher!

I am taking bo for Eng51 and 102 and 300. Hard because you wants you succeed. Don't use "you" in your essay cause he doesn't like it.But nice guy and very helpful.

Had him for an experimental literature class, graphic novels and manga, so much fun.I want to take every class he teaches!Very knowledgeable about subject, though pronounces manga wrong. Reading quizzes, midterm and final are essays.Lets you use ideas from quizzes in essays.Lots of small group work and class discussion.Only one manga read, but fun

This is a teacher who enjoys his class far too much. Only he could make the Odyssey make THAT much sense. Very good at staying to the timeframe of the literature and making it fun and interesting. Never a dull moment when BoblyMan: the english teaching super hero is around.

Bob is an amazingly fun guy who really cares about his students. He is always willing to take the time to help you and clearly loves what he does. If any of you are lucky enough to nab him as your English teacher, get ready for a wonderful semester!

Mr. Lyman is the bomb. He missed a bunch of classes because he was sick, and consequently cut out one of our papers. It is REALLY frustrating how he doesn't give your papers back for what seems like a month, but he's SUPER helpful. He's a bit confusing sometimes, but sign up for WAC and you'll have no problem. He makes you think outside the box.

Bob was so awesome. He helped me a lot when I thought I was a terrible comprehender. He just said that I was a literal learner and to relax and read for fun. I took the experimental class, and idk if they are going to offer it again, but I would def recommend Bob if you are struggling with your writing or grammar.

Loved this class! Very interesting material and reading. Only two writing assignments were required and the rest was tests on lecture and reading. Read all the books and come to every class. The teacher was very engaging and interesting in lecture. Such a fun class!

He's a really great teacher. He helps you and explains everything if you need help. He will go over all of the details you need and will take one on one time with you. Bob is a fantastic teacher. He can be critical on essays but he is laid back and isn't a harsh grader.

Good professor. Goes in deep with the assignments essay and explores varieties of way to approach the focus of the essay. Really nice.

Fun text choices, group work & discussions during class, clear on what he expects of assigments, he most defintely is passionate about his course studies.

Really hard on the essay grading. Didn't come to class one day lost 50 points. Wouldn't advise to take this teacher.

Amazing professor! He truly cares about his student's success. Group discussions are very helpful. Class discussions always very interesting. He is always willing to explain the material so you will understand. If I could take this class again, I would! So devastated that I can't take his class for ENG300! Take his class, you won't regret it :)

Prof Lyman was a great professor! He really knows what he's doing, and he's there to help you whenever you need him. He really helped me improve in my writing. Plus, his classes almost always end 30min earlier, but we covered everything we needed to in class. Take his class! You won't regret it. However, don't slack off, you gotta work hard too.

He is awesome professor ,I learned a lot stuff in this class.I would suggest to take him if you want to increase your writing skills.

I am more aware as a student and a citizen because of what I learned about critical theory in Lyman's course. It was mind-bending on many occasions, always food for thought, and mentally stimulating from start to finish. If you don't get a chance to learn from this educator while at ARC, sorry for ya!

Great professor, by far the best I've taken at ARC yet. He is very clear with what he expects and was always available for any questions you may have. Although you must put in work to pass his class, there is no real excuse not to pass since he is such a supportive educator and will sit down with you to help with whatever you need. 5 stars!

Great teacher, teaches to the point. He will repeat if you don't understand, always cares for his students abilities.

He explains everything quite well. He definitely makes you work for it but that's the best way to learn. Id recommend him to anyone!

Awesome professor. I won't ever regret taking his class. He's a very rigorus teacher but, if you want to learn how to write very good essays, take him. The class starts hard and tricky, the teacher makes you think outside the box. You can't really fail it. I apply most of the things I learned in his class to my engwr 300 and I doing very well.

Wonderful teacher who actually teaches you instead of lecture after lecture. If you don't understand something be sure to ask because he will break it down for you until you understand. He really cares about the students and wants to see us be successful. Very Fair!

I highly recommend Professor Lyman for those who really want to have a progress in English writing. He cares about students and he really teaches. Be prepared for critical thinking and analyzing the materials being read. He gives good and useful feedbacks.

Professor Lyman is a caring individual. He makes you work for your grade. At the end of the day he wants you to have something learned conceptually rather than focusing on just homework assignments.

Absolutely recommend taking this course three essays total including the final paper ..a couple response papers to the reading.. and attendance is mandatory come to class and do your reading and you're guaranteed to pass

hardest class I've taken so far, but so worth it as well. He definitely made me a better writer and gives constructive criticism. 65% of your grade is the portfolio, but I think he grades very fairly for those. a lot of effort needs to be put in but it's so worth it

I came to this class thinking I knew English but soon realized that there is a lot I dont understand. Fortunately not only was he resourceful but very very kind and helpful. He cares for his students. He shapes them into critical thinkers. You leave with knowledge and understanding.
