Mr.B is the greatest professor that ever lived!! I would take his class over and over again..
Mr. Bob was so awesome. His class is all based on powerpoints and it is fun to watch especially the hilarious random photos he throws in. His tests are self explanitory, if u don't take this teacher you will probably regret it.

very VISUAL... no reading... great handouts! VERY interesting.... GREAT CLASS! best teacher i've had.
great, funny, easy if u do little work required.
At first I thought that the class was a bit too easy. Power point lectures and the tests aren't super challenging. But I think I learned more in this class than in any other History class. Very good storyteller, very cool prof.
-) no book = difficulty finding information -) powerpoint lessons = do not make sense if you miss a day; they are incomplete -) he gives a ridiculous amount of info, most of which is not even tested -) doesn't give real reviews +) does give plenty of extra credit +) is very helpful/chatty -) i don't see how he has the "highest averages" @ ACC
Awesome teacher and a nice guy!
He is the best! i had him for Summer 1 2008...luv this guy! i end up making a bad grade on my 1st test..and A's on the rest..he dropped my first test just so i could maintain an A. He is crystal clear w/ his power points that's what you need! he is excellent teacher!
I loved Mr.Bs class! He is way funny and makes the class go by way quick! He posts all his notes and PPs on BB, and gives reviews for the tests and lots of extra credit! You also have to do 2 book reviews to get an A and atleast 1 to get a B-not really that bad! Take him, hes awesome!!
Awesome professor! He teaches very informally and is easy to understand. To me the class was a lot of work, but the class was interesting. Very visual, uses only power-point in lectures. Take Bob or your probably going to regret it!
Prof. McConaughy. Textbook reading is mandatory (BUT he takes 20 % of final grade from textbook notes, only about 4 pages per chapter) nice and easy way to earn points. 8 week class: 1 book review required, 16 week: 2 book reviews. 4 tests (all of ours were taken home) great for not having to cram for an inclass exam but bad because they are long >
Continued from last -> I took 1302, 8 week and earned an A, but not easily trust me. Even though exams were take home they drove me NUTS (very long and tedious) ALL of exam questions were based off of LECTURE. Funny and nice guy, but is often behind other profs who also teach history. He overloaded himself teaching many classes and taking a class->
himself. It wasn't that he didn't want to help, he didn't really have much time to stay after and help. Sometimes this class made me want to rip out my hair, very frustrating at times. I never missed a class but it was still confusing at times since the information on BB wasn't 100% the same info he showed in class. Attendance is MANDATORY.
WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL! class is MANDATORY, but lecture is very interesting! Spends lots of time on power points & main ideas. Entertaining to say the least! EXAMS ARE TAKE HOME. ( they are tedious and take a lot of time, but well worth an A+ ) 2 book reviews, graded on Excellent, Good, or He will ask you to redue it! Willing to work with
**willing to work with his students in OFFICE HOURS! He spends a lot of time on campus, so finding him was never a problem! He is passionate about his class & the well being of his students. i HIGHLY recommend this class if you are a dedicated, hard working, student! :]
AWFUL teacher. His PowerPoint are unnecessarily long (not joking 2000 slide PowerPoint?s) he gets off topic a lot. He posts announcements on bb ALL the time, and repeats himself a lot! He also changes his mind often. Every test we had was in a different format because he could not make up his mind! I would not recommend this teacher to anyone!
Very awesome teacher!! Take home tests; WILLING TO WORK WITH HIS STUDENTS. Take him if you have the chance..makes history fun and exciting!!! Attendance is mandatory!
Super awesome professor. Very informative. He does repeat certain topics of his lectures but take notes on what he repeats, it's more than likely on the exam. He's super helpful and makes the class pretty entertaining. If you do everything he suggest you can easily ace the class.
This guy is nice and what not but all of his assignments are unesscary. He gives out too much work that doesnt even involve the test. i recieved a C after doing extra credit, all hw, & all book essays and decent on test. In my opinon..he favors the pretty females in the class
Great guy! LOVES his history!! You have to respect that.Challenging and chaotic but really fun! I took BOTH I & II. Show up, suit up & do the work...it's worth it!
One of the best professors I have ever had. I hated history until I took his class. His love for history makes the class interesting. Show up, do the work, study hard, make an A. I cannot thank this teacher enough for all he has done. Took both history I and II
You will not like this teacher if you don't like to show up to class, do not like to do homework, and do not like to do the things college students are required to do. The students who do not like his class are the ones who like to blame the teacher for their bad grades because they do make an effort to go to his office hours. Great teacher!
I am not a fan of how chaotic and scattered he teaches. Its all powerpoint, and the slides he needs you to copy down that he DOESN'T post on blackboard are only left up for about 10 seconds, while the unnecessary ones that he claims are "just cool to know about" he leaves up for atleast 30 seconds. And the reviews are too vague.
Best teacher ever! Very good. Go to his office for help, always there to help! Great visual and auditory teacher, hilarious, couldn't ask for a better time this semester!
10 thumbs up!
Professor Bob is the best. His class made me change my major to American Studies. Passionate, modern teaching style, up to 300 slides/class of historical images, people and documents. He will make you fall in love w/ US History. If you come to class, take notes and review them, you'll make an A.
GRADES YOU ON: Attendance, 4 Tests, 2 Essays. LECTURES: POWERPOINT, music, IMAGES!! Outlines on BB, CLASS NECC. all test material on this TESTS are ~50 short answer. FAIR, HELPFUL, very knowledgeable! Just have to talk to him! REWARDS for improvement.. Easy A just to pass? NO. A w. interest & effort? YES. Read&Study PP Notes, use a laptop!
He is a fabulous teacher. Definitely a challenging course but I started by failing both my first tests then I talked to him in office hours and he told me if I was willing to work for it, i'd get the A's i wanted. Go to his office hours he likes to see his students care. i actually made a high b in his class but he bumped me to an a for workinghard
This class is NOT an easy A, but if you come to class, pay attention, and take notes, you'll get the grade you deserve. He has study guides that he suggests you take notes on, and they (for the most part) follow the PP. There are 4 tests, 2 essays (or 1 big one) that are MANDATORY to pass the class. He's very willing to work with you. Go for it!
Prof McConaughy was great! His lectures are interesting, untraditional, and straight to the point. His tests are unique that you get to give him the information you learned and he grades that. We had two book reports and his grading was fair and prompt. He is available during office hours and gave people plenty of notice, options, and assistance.
Bob is a brilliant professor with a lot of personality and charisma. His class is tougher than it sounds, but perhaps that's because I took the summer version. His lecture is all over the place, so if you really want an A, read the book well. Also, his tests have no multiple choice - all written out. Don't take him unless you're prepared to learn.
This man is a rockstar. I've never had a teacher that was as enthusiastic about his subject than McConaughy. He's NOT an easy teacher, he actually requires that you pay attention and learn. The material on his tests are not things you can memorize quickly, attendance is extremely necessary. I'll be taking his US History II class as well.
Like him as a person but hate the way he teaches. Messy, disorganized resources & he often emphasizes things the book never cares to mention. The tests are okay but the reviews are RIDICULOUS long lists of points & it's your responsibility to know all of them. I'd recommend to a history major/enthusiast, but it's intensive for such a basic course.
i read the book and went to SI and thought since i spent twice the time allotted i would be able to do well in this class. despite studying and taking notes out the wazoo this teacher is just ridiculous. He teaches ONLY THROUGH POWERPOINT. 95% of his slides are unrelated. talks about his prior drug use a lot. Not a good class at all!
Tells you everything you need to know in his lectures. There are 4 tests and 2 of them are online. 2 book reports. He is a very easy grader. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I highly suggest you don't skip. If you need any boosting he is happy to do so, as long as you have shown dedication. Huge history buff and makes his lectures entertaining.
Great teacher!! Just make sure to do clear notes, nothing wordy. Very easy prof. if you just show up and pay attention. I couldn't believe people aren't passing. He does ALL blackboard exams. Do a table of contents to find things in your notes, and you'll make an A. Really funny too!
4 tests online, no other homework, power point slides help keep you somewhat interested. 2 essays. Grading of tests never discussed. Worked with others on tests and got major grade differences but passed so not complaining. Took advantage of extra credit. Didn't read book but probably would have helped. Took notes on laptop, use for tests.
He is very cool and makes class seem so fun, its amazing and he is so fun and keeps you wanting to go to class, and go to class for sure guys its very helpful in this class and do your book reports in time and if possible early, mayor extra credit! enjoy guys
Took for 1301 and 1302. Great Professor. Don't need to read the textbook (Although the textbook is an easy read). Can be a bit all over the place in lecture. Tests are on BB and you can take anywhere, but still study because they are timed. Can use notes on test if time permits (he admits he won't know). Great Teacher, easy class.
McConaughy is great teacher, that said he is really understanding. You'll get an A if you go to office hours, participate in class and take decent notes. He is old school however, don't text in his class but really cant it wait? Also try not to show up late. All tests are on BB, and you have one long essay due at the end of the semester.
This class was by far my toughest class. Professor Mac is very knowledgeable, but his tests are tough!! He's forgets what he lectures, and puts things on a test we didn't cover, but, expects you to do your own research and figure it out. Additionally, you have to read a 400+page biography and Frederick Douglas. Tough Class!!
He is a great History Teacher! His test are mainly on blackboard so it can be a pain, because it makes it much harder at least for me it did. He is very clear on what you have to do to pass and a very funny and nice man!
He is an awesome teacher! I love history more than ever now! He loves what he does and it makes the class go by so fast! The blackboard tests are a little challenging but not too hard.
Lectures are about 300 slides long, with about 200 being pictures and the other 100 being key words. Doesn't stay on slides long enough to copy, and as I took diligent notes underlining what he specified as importance... studied vigorously before the first exam and even had a bit for the second half. 50% of the material wasn't covered, failed.
This was by far worst class that I've ever taken. He tells you to study a certain part of the lecture for the tests & than when you take the tests the test have nothing that you studied. The BB test are so hard and they are timed!! He isn't a good teacher. Trust me i took his class because the many good reviews on here and boy did i regret it
I missed two classes, and he dropped me. I would not recommend this Prof. at all.
He's pretty cool I guess.3 BB Tests, 1 eight page paper over a required reading (400pg min biography of his approval). He's 68yo but lively. 500 slide powerpoints daily, just skims through, but no bullet points/notes.I feel like his teaching style is geared towards high school students, which is not how I learn. Supposed to read book nightly.i dont.
Bob is the sh*t. Contact him if anything happens and he will work with you. Lectures are fun and interesting. Funny. How to get an a: print pp notes before lectures and circle anything he says to note. before exam, take everything he said to note and break it down into a review so youre not flipping through a ton of paper for bb tests. awesome prof
Bob is super cool and will work with you through most things. His tests are a bit difficult to master but you do learn alot just by paying attention in class. The best advice is to print out notes before class and review work through them as you take your hand written notes.
Bob is the grumpiest professor I've ever had. The class is passable if you study, but this guy makes it so hard to like the subject. Though it's an acceptable class, there are waaayyyy better options for professors that care about you and the subject.
Bob is a cool teacher, he's kinda difficult to talk to, but just try your best to get to know him and he'll try to help you.
Bob is a cool guy but sincerely I regret myself to be put in this class. He loves history but trust me you dont want to be in his class specially when you have to take a test, he is the worst professor at grading and making exams. Good Luck!!
Bob is always willing to help you out, you can always find him in the learning lab on highland campus helping students one on one. He obviously cares about his students, ACC is lucky to have such a qualified and passionate professor. Hands down to the best professor at ACC!
Don't let the decent rating here fool you. He constantly brags about how his classes are "Sooo good" but then whines when 75 percent of his students don't pass his tests! He tries to make his lectures interesting, but ends up jumping around topics like a dog with ADHD! Extremely rude to students, personally used his dog passing to call me stupid!?
He is very specific on what he wants to see in the test and essays. Make sure you study for his exams. PAY ATTENTION TO LECTURES! he will tell you whats important and what's not so listen.
pay attention & take good notes in class, yes old-fashion style! names, events should be remembered - it is history :) use key words when you answer test/exam questions talk to him whenever you have unclear info a kind and caring teacher
Amazing class! Rob's a funny guy who made the long powerpoint pres. interesting. Take good notes and pay attention. If you want to succeed, he goes the extra mile to help out. Do good on the 4 exams and write a good essay. From the 1st day Rob made it clear how to get an A, and I learned a lot in his class. Over all wonderful experience.
Great teacher! I highly recommend printing both the power point and the study guide and just highlighting the things he talks about. He goes through slides fairly quickly so you usually don't have enough time to copy everything down. When you answer questions for the test, he wants a list of key words/ phrases, no paragraphs.
Took him for HIST 1, got an A. Took him for Hist 2, also got an A. In order to pass his class, you have to actually look at his review and find the definition and importance of the person/event. I passed because I had amazing classmates that actually wanted to get together and study. I recommend anyone to do the same. Just do your work!!
Lectures are very long and very disorganized( tends to ramble about non related historical events during lectures and tends to jump around in time a lot ). Tests are alright, need to be a speedy typed in order to finish them b/c they are not multiple choice and are timed ( also in sort essay form). Constantly moves dates around for tests and essays
He is a nice guy but his tests are really confusing. Test are on blackboard, they're timed and not multiple choice so you have to quickly type. He does not have clear criteria on how to answer questions and grades heavy. He is really picky and attendance is mandatory, he also gets annoyed when a student stands up to go to the restroom, eat, or sleep.
Disorganized lectures, but still great nonetheless. Knows a lot about his subject will give you the information. Take good notes and you'll pass his tests.
This is a wired proffessor but u might like him hes ight once u get to know him
He is a good proff, but unorganized when it comes to history. you have to work for your grade, at the end of the semester you will have to write a 5-10 page essay on a book about a political figure discussed in class. It helps with a letter grade up. so if you have a D, and do the assignment, you get a C.
Great professor. Really understanding when I had a family emergency. He changed his tests from blackboard to in class. Short answers, tries to give everyone best grade they can. Has a lot of office hours and answers emails regularly. Really enjoyed his visuals and topics of lecture and History is usually a challenging A for me but he helped me!
I have NEVER meet a more disrespectful professor in my entire life. Always on my case about having bad handwriting and always being extremely rude to other students ( once yelled at a student for taking pics of a slide show). Lectures are very long / unorganized like his tests ( essay questions and takes off points for long awnsers ) AVOID!
McConaughy is a knowledgeable, but unfortunately lectures are very disorganized. Nothing was in chronological order; we jumped around quite a bit. He provides a study guide & powerpoint outline - helpful, but a little misguided. Tests are either on blackboard or in-class. Req. bullet point answers. I'm a 4.0 student & struggled to get a B. Avoid
I say get ready to read since he's lecture are so disorganized that you'll never understand anything. He'll jump from the Spanish colonization in America to the Spanish fascist movement which is in US history 2 not US history 1. Absolutely terrible, I stuck it out for a month before dropping. He's disrespectful and absurd in his teaching method.
Go to class or you will miss stuff for the test. Very interesting lectures, enjoyable. Cares.
The degree to which he likes you has an waaay outsized impact on your grades. He is also under review from the college for having a low pass rate. He loves lecturing - lectures are entertaining. He does not like the administrative side of teaching at all. Provides way too much info in lectures. I'm an A Student - he gave me a 79.6. Avoid Bob.
His lectures are quite boring . He wants you to listen. He doesn't take feedback from students. There would be 4 quizzes. 2 in class and 2 in ACC testing center. Most of the questions in the test were about personalities . Most questions were from quizlet. So do check quizlet. He wants short and to the point answer.
Do not take him.
Jumbled up lecture style that can be incoherent to follow along to. He repeats everything, so information can get drilled into you. But it's hard to follow his style, as he will always follow some figure through time, then completely backtracks in order to talk about something else. It's just hard to follow when he jumps around in different times.
Prof Bob doesnt grade on merit. Simple as that. He is unbelievably picky about how you format your answers on his tests. He steeply marks off points for not abiding by his esoteric formatting criteria, even if your answer is correct. Im pretty sure he uses this to artificially decrease his grading curve bc the material itself is easy. Frustrating
Mr. McConaughy was very nice. He doesn't like you coming late and is all over the place with the lecture. The study guides are huge and impossible to cover everything in them. The test are short answers and allow you to say what you can remember. Gives a paper that will bring your grade up a whole letter grade.
Avoid. He skips around his very disorganized lectures, which makes them difficult to follow. I consistently had to reorganize my notes because it was difficult to make any sense of them. He has a bit of a temper about people leaving the class to use the restroom and will tell you your class is next to be graded and grade another class instead.
Get ready to read!!! The readings from the textbooks are extremely extensive and mandatory if you want to do well on the tests. The test format is dreadful!! Not multiple choice, not short/long answer, he gives you a name or an event and expects to basically brain dump onto the page. Short bullet pointed lists for names, events, etc..
I took the 8 week online course and it was definitely odd. The ONLY assignments for the entire semester was 4 exams, 25%/grade each. That's it. His instructions/writing is really confusing to understand. Honestly if you read the chapters you'll be fine. Not super intensive, but also not an easy A. Never got any feed back on my exams.
This is probably one of the best professors I have ever had. Professor McConaughy was great and responded quick. Lectures were mostly power points that were always available and made good notes for the test. I have ADHD so I take a little longer on exams and he was more than willing to give me an extension. I would definitely take his class again!
I took him for a 8-week class and I wouldn't do it again. He has 4 tests and a paper for his class so you have to do good on them if you want a good grade. This class Is based on reading the textbook so you'll have to rely on it. The test format is horrible, its a 10 question test but "short answer" and has 4-5 questions on each. Super unorganized
Prof McConaughy is very caring and fair. Wants you to actually learn. I wish he had more classes.
I was in the self guided 6 wk course. Tests are easy, communication is KEY. Very very forgiving, but wants you to open the line of communication to meet your goals. TALK to him. He is very understanding and reasonable.
lectures are very disorganized, exams are 10 questions with 3-5 individual questions in each and are short answer, does not listen to feedback from the class, he also canceled multiple lectures and we were expected to pretty much learn from the textbook, never was very clear which textbook to get. He is NOT tech savvy at all.
This was, without a doubt, the worst class I've ever taken in a long time. The course is completely incomprehensible. The lectures are unstructured and messy, and there's not enough information in the slides. And the tests are extremely poorly formatted, with unclear grading criteria. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
It seems like the in person class sucks, but I took his online course and it was pretty easy. He cut the total grades of the class from 4 tests to 3, which freaked me out at first but ended up being okay. You have to describe random test topics in bullet points, and have lots of info in short bullets. Very hands off class, but you read lots beware!
Since taking Professor McConaugy's online course, it was difficult communicating with him. He was not accessible at all for office hours, only via email. His class was also exam based (written). He has a specific way of how he wants questions answered, very confusing format. Exam reviews are 100+ questions and lecture notes don't really help.
I do not recommend him if the class is online. No lecture notes were provided. Wants you to read the textbook but wants to ask detailed exam questions which he wants answered in a specific way. Very confusing. Emailed him about how to answer exam questions but I did not really understand his responses cos my grades stayed the same.
I'd recommend this class if you're a good test-taker, as HW only consisted of 3 tests. Tests took 2 hrs & had very specific guidelines for answering questions. BB announcements could be a bit confusing, so I'd definitely stress good communication. Bent over backwards to help when I had technical difficulties w/ a test. Overall I enjoyed this class!
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. He did not post a syllabus until 2 weeks after the class started. He did not offer any lectures or notes, asks very vague questions on exams, and is a harsh grader. NO feedback on exams and gives student little information to go off. Only 2 out of the 5 exams were posted due to his lack of understanding blackboard.
(1) Dead wrong about many historical events (2) Unhelpful in answering questions (3) Lectures often disorganized (4) Study guides=disorganized mess (5) Ridiculous schedule for summer (3of4 exams in last 2wks!) (6) Tests have things he says they won't (7) Tests extremely broad/deep. I wrote furiously for 1.5hrs ea. (8) Makes plurals w/apostrophes
By far one of the worst professors I've taken at ACC. He's old, power trips and claims his lectures are some out of this world experience when they're just him reading off a powerpoint. He once kicked me out of class for getting an eraser out of my book bag thinking i was packing up. Just an overall poor experience taking him and do not recommend.
