Difficult to know what he expected. Reputation for challenging grading, but really not hard at all.

what a nice guy! Bible as litt, was a very fun class!! Be ready to take a lot of notes, pretty tough tests, but overall if you do the homework you will get a good grade. Come to class often!
Nice guy, very smart. Not entirely sure why teaching at Tumbleweed Tech - can see him teaching at the U.
Does express his thoughts clearly, but fails to make clear his expectations. Lectures are rarely relevant to assignments. My writing improved only as a result of the practice the class provided, not because of any competent instruction.
Had a while back...enjoyed while learned some. Is very organized too a fault. A little more time for questions, discussion would have been helpful, but would deffinitely reccomend this prof. to all but the laziest of students.
The class seemed to be more religious than it should have been, but was a pretty easy class.
It is hard but I think that I am learning alot and it is benifiting me very much.
Very easy to understand, and very helpful. I actually looked forward to going to this class. A lot of reading, (beware of Dante's Inferno) but a fun class.
The instructor never knew what he wanted and it affected the grades on our papers. He was boring, liberal, preachy, unclear, and unfit to teach the class. My papers were packed full of useless insults and sometimes I was marked down and he couldn't even tell me why. Worst english class I have ever taken. Bar none.
this teacher was so cute from the first day because he's looks like an older lance armstrong. i really enjoyed reading the stories he assigned and there weren't that many assignments. his test were easy cause he would give you clues to the answers and he's just an over all good teacher. glad he was my first english teacher. had a great experience!
It is nice teacher, but too much assignment need to do it.i have done 11 assignment since beginning of the winter quarter. If you are an ESL student, you grade may be just above the average.
Do not take this class if you are an atheist! This class was based on religion way too much! I didn't read much of the required literature. He's a nice guy but expects you to know the bible like the back of your hand. Very boring lectures. Only take if required for high school (running start kids!)Wish I had taken that class at high school instead.
Not a bad professor, but not the greatest either. His lectures were fairly boring and seemed like they were just filling time. Assignments were not too bad, but there were a lot of them. I got 94% throughout most of the quarter, and got a bad grade because I burnt out at the end. Technical Writing is just a boring class.
GOOD TEACHER
I am taking his online music app. course and although there is a massive amount of information you have to go through, it is still enjoyable. You get three tries on the weekly quizzes to get a 100, he is very responsive if you e-mail him, helpful, seems to be very nice. The one thing I didnt like was how much time I had to put into it. MANY MANY HRS
Really great professor, he was prompt whenever you had a question, and the work was no more than what you would expect from any other class. Just keep on top of things and stay focused. Came out of the class with an A. I definitely learned a lot.
He was very helpful and a very nice guy. I would recommend him to anyone!!
I had him a couple of quarters ago...I really liked his class. He was so nice!!!
Nice guy, who knows a lot, but is INCAPABLE of getting the information out! His lectures are all over the place and near-incomprehensible. He went down too many rabbit trails. Assignments were easy, as were tests. Like I said, he's a nice guy who knows a lot, he just can't get it out. Take him if you're interested in the subject, but not otherwise.
Impossible to understand what he wants!!!! He is very intelligent and is willing to help you but it's almost no use since he cannot be direct in adressing your paper. He is very nice but is an absolute rambler!
Bob is a great guy. His class can be a bit of a challenge but he's always willing to stay and help. He really wants you to pass the class. On occasion he does ramble but he's got such a cute smile, it's totally fine.If you do the work, you'll pass. I'd definitely recommend Bob Pedersen.
Overall, a really nice teacher, though his lectures can sort of go astray or turn to religion. Grading was 1/3 interpretive assignments, 1/3 tests and 1/3 term paper. As a tip, talk to him during his office hours a day or 2 before a assignment is due, and he will basically tell you what you need to do to get a really good grade on the assignment.
Pedersen is a good teacher. He knows a lot about the Bible and is very informative. The tests are pretty easy if you pay attention and read the assigned reading. Didn't agree with everything he said but enjoyed his class. RECOMMEND.
Half of the tests are on subjects not ever discussed. It is by far the MOST frustrating class ever taken. He's never clear with directions and if you express an opinion different than his he informs you that you're stupid. He never cites his "scholars say" sources. When questioned he gets flustered. Lectures are miserably boring. Worst class ever.
A lot of assignments so make sure you stay on top of your work! As long as you turn it in and ask for help when needed, you'll be fine. He's super helpful and wants you to succeed. Not sure if I have the juice to do it in a summer course again, a lot of work in an even shorter amount of time. I really did enjoy his call though! Recommended!
A lot of work, but I enjoyed the class and improved my writing skills. He's super helpful if you're willing to ask. I don't know if I'd recommend taking it in a Winter or Summer class due to the work load (unless this was your only class) but the professor is awesome!
Very nice teacher helpful if you ask him. Lectures are very boring but necessary to get a good grade inc class. Books are used constantly and required.
He doesn't expect anyone to actually know the bible. He is Christian and has referred to the bible, but not a lot. You can tell he loves English and thinks it's fun and he can be a funny guy. He expects you to take English seriously and won't let you slack. He does care and offers assistance whenever you need it.
Pedersen is in overall good professor. He's a nice guy and will give you help if needed. I took English 265, and it focused a lot on the bible, which I find interesting, so I didn't mind. You need to pay attention to the class discussions, he will tell you what you need to know and if you pay attention you'll be fine!
Hes a nice teacher but when it comes to assignments, hes not very helpful. he tries to be but the people ive talked to always get confused. The assignments are hard so you have to do all the reading in order to understand it, which is a lot of reading. you use your books everyday too.
I did not like taking a class with him. I would go in and ask for help but it was useless. If you don't like reading like me DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! We had a book and novel but I actually didn't read the novel and ended up doing fairly well in the class. I don't recommend anyone to take a class with him. I took the ENGL&111 course.
Pros: Makes things very clear; is easygoing on assignments (longest one was only 5 pages double spaced). Cons: Stumbles over his words occasionally, does have a tendency to use church and church activities in his explanations.
Mr. Pedersen has a vast amount of knowledge and is well versed in teaching English. His summer course-- due to the short quarter-- was a fairly heavy workload and although some of the instruction overlapped from assignment to assignment causing a little frustration, overall Mr. Pedersen proved extremely helpful and insightful.
AWESOME TEACHER!There is a lot of of reading, but it's interesting. And his excitement about teaching makes you want to be there. Also, very willing to help and he gives you opportunities to bring your grades up if you ask.
seems to lost track of the time a lot. i took the eleven thirty to twelve thirty class and whenever it is the bottom of the hour he usually sometimes looks at the clock on the wall and says oh were almost out of time are we. helped my with my Plato essay.
Amazing professor! I loved his English 1 class. There is a lot of material to read however, he always makes sure to go over it and make sure to explain if you have any questions. Taking notes during this class is a must if you want the ideas or examples he gives!
This is quite the interactive online class. Lots of lectures, all clearly displayed in the calendar on which to read on what day. Not too harsh of a grader, very helpful, and you must go to 2 concerts and write reports on them (available concerts are all displayed on the calendar). Overall, great teacher.
Took it in the fall of 2014. He is somewhat disorganised, but only when there were multiole assignments to do around the same time. There's about 5 essay to do, final is an in class essay. Almost all essays are based on readings from the textbook. It really wasn't that bad of a class! Go to class, don't be THAT guy.
Great teacher. Had him summer quarter and although the workload was heavy, it was still manageable. Note-taking is essential, he provides great examples to help you with assigned essays. Was quick with getting back to emails with questions. Graded on a curve and there were extra credit assignments as well.
Mr. Pedersen is just a dorky old guy that you can tell is truly devoted to his job; he is passionate about his subject and knows a lot about the pieces assigned throughout the quarter. There were around 8 essays we had to write, but they were relatively easy. Pedersen has a dry sense of humor and is pretty quirky, but he's a great guy.
one of the best teachers in CBC. helps when asked. never assigns hard homework, but always goes over it in class. will take classes that have him in the future. really easy professor and lectures are really interesting.
Great teacher almost no tests just a few in class essays that are open book and you can use a dictionary, thesaurus and your phone. Plus he gave out two 40 pt extra credit assignments
I took Pedersen for an online class, and overall he was very organized and structured on Canvas, and had the entire quarter laid out by the first day of class for you. Main grade comes from 3 exams and 4 papers, none of which were too difficult, but there is a lot of daily work to do in the online lessons that can be hard to stay caught up with.
I took 2 classes from Pedersen, overall he's a good professor and he's fun! He has a lot of puns, just a heads up.
Bob is one of my favorite professors! I highly recommend him. One time I was sick, so he changed an essay due date just for me. He also gives extra credit.
Mr. Pederson wasn't super exciting, but he taught very well. I felt like he didn't expect people to really know how to write (most of the students we're running start, as I was). Take 5 minutes after class and he will give you very specific things to change in your essays. Overall a good choice if you want to learn. He curves the overall grade! :)
Professor Bob Pedersen lays out the work in a very specific and organized way. He shares the grading criteria, so you know exactly what is expected. There is a fair amount of homework. He reviews upcoming assignments and posts reminders of due dates. Professor Pedersen grades tough, but he also offers some extra credit opportunities (also tough).
I recommend this professor for English 101. However, the essays require depth and are pretty long.
Pedersen is an excellent english teacher. His classes are made of lectures, reading, and essays. Make sure to use the handouts and take notes to help in your essays. He also does extra credit and if you pass the first inclass essay, it's optional to take the final. I definitely would recommend him for English 101.
Bob is an amazing professor. I highly recommend him to anyone who is unsure of which english teacher to take. You do read a lot, however he expands greatly on the subject. He is kinda lax on attendance, i missed a lot of days myself and he didn't say anything, but i wouldn't push your luck. Provides excellent feedback as well.
If you plan to take this course during summer quarter, don't think because it's 4 weeks less than a normal quarter that there is 4 weeks less work. Be prepared for a lot of assignments. Fortunately, Bob gives a lot of good detail about the assignments and help if needed. He does get off topic a lot and sometimes treats you like an ENGL101 student.
You will spend much of the quarter working on multiple assignments that you will draw from for your final project. It is an effective teaching method that worked well for me. Sometimes spends time on earlier English topics, but only if members of the class show a need for the refresher. Good feedback on assignments, and is accessible outside class.
This class was so ridiculous. I took music appreciation online and everyday there was reading and 14 page lessons to go over along with a weekly assignment. The tests are easy when it's the concepts/ terms but the listening tests are pretty difficult. Shazam will be your best friend. Don't take this class if you're just doing it for the art credit!
Pedersen is a great teacher!! I had a little trouble with him answering my emails, but he usually did pretty good. I took this as an online class and you are given three tries on each exam. After each exam you can see what you got wrong for the next exam. The final paper took some work, but he looked it over before I turned in my final paper!:)
I have been in the class for not even a week and I already extremely dislike this teacher. The week has been spent listening to the teachers extensive knowledge of the Bible. He would ask students questions about the Bible and then proceed to get visibly angry when no one answered. He also publicly humiliates students! Dont raise your hand!!!
I took this as an online class. Pedersen has a really good layout on canvas of what is due ahead of time. He is understanding if you need to turn in things late as long as you send him an email ahead of time. He will always provide really good feedback on your assignments.
We worked out of one literature book and our essays we're based off our readings. Our homework was from the writing hand book and we either graded in class or he took them home.
This class in an atrocious amount of homework for an online music class. Exams take 3-7 hours depending if you do all 3 attempts. 4 essays, daily online lectures 3-20 pages, not to mention discussion assignments and quizzes. Do not take unless you are a music major or enjoy intense studying of classical music. Not just a arts/humanities credit.
At first it took me a bit to get used to his teaching style. He's so funny though and really cares about his students. I enjoyed his class.
Hated it
I took the music appreciation online class and personally, online classes are not my thing. I only took this class because I thought it was self explanatory and I could complete it easily. If online classes are not your thing, dont take this class online. Go to campus for it. A LOT of homework. Grades slowly. Mainly focuses on classical music. Meh
Mr. Pedersen is a very nice teacher. Unfortunately though, he doesn't really seem to understand why people take online classes. Homework every day, even on weekends, and requires two live concerts to be attended to write a paper on it. Luckily, he is an easy grader, but it's a lot of work. He also monitors if you look at lectures or not.
Dont take MUS 105 online. A LOT of homework, online lectures, and essays towards the end of term. Grades slowly but with lengthy and detailed feedback. Do the online lectures or else the tests wont make any sense. Again, take this class on campus because you cant really experience music the same online.
DONT! Just finished week 3 & IM DYING. Soo much work, 7hrs+ a DAY, 5days a week, Im working so hard to stay caught up but am failing. My other class which is easy is getting behind too because of this class. TOO MUCH WORK! If you dare take this class take ONLY this class so you dont get behind on the others. I FORGOT WHAT THE SUN LOOKS LIKE!!!
Overall, I enjoyed this class and learned a lot! Mr. Pedersen's passion for the subject is obvious. The one caution that I have about this class is that Mr. Pedersen is rather absent minded and hard to contact. It was a little bit of a challenge to not have everything assigned scheduled at the beginning, but I would still recommend this class.
Professor Pedersen is a great teacher! He wants students to analyze the Bible for themselves, and he doesn't mind if you disagree with his interpretation as long as you have a reason. He is somewhat forgetful, so many of the Zoom meeting were scheduled the morning of the meeting. However, this wasn't a problem since we could watch the recordings.
Overall good professor and very passionate about music. One thing that was disappointing though was the amount of time spent on lectures. I thought this would be my easiest class and it ended up being the class I spent the most time on and the listening quizzes were rather difficult. If you put the time in, you'll get an A, but its time consuming.
Doesnt give feedback
I like the fact that he literally tells us what he wants when it comes to assignments. He gives us great outlines and step-by-step of what hes looking for, I havent really had to contact him even though I only see him twice a week but the one time I did email him he got back to me right away. He is a solid professor and gets straight to the point
It was sad, I lost respect for the man when he started being sexist and saying jokes about woman like "does this make my butt look big" and "woman marry their way up right? They still do it to this day right?" There were history lessons when we should have been being taught English and the fundamentals of writing. Also racism and microagressions.
Mr. Pedersen was very clear on what he wanted in all of his assignments. I enjoyed doing the small assignments that led to the essays. If writing is not your best subject, I recommend his class because he is very knowledgeable and will help you improve! He really does care! I was very impressed by how much this guy knows!
I have never met a more inconsistent teacher when it comes to grading, so if you don't mind having the anxiety that comes from someone who grades things inconsistently, then go for it.
For me, there are about three assignments per week, and they usually are really simple and laid out for you. Just like any English class, it's easiest for me to complete the essays as soon as possible. As someone who did multiple paged essays with more than five citations in high school, I can say that this class isn't too challenging.
Great professor overall would take again
I would definitely recommend taking any of his English classes. He makes everything super easy to understand and really takes his time to make sure you know what you are doing and helps you actually learn the material. Besides that he has a great sense of humor. Always enjoy going to class!
Super funny guy and really appreciated his outlines. Textbook not mandatory at all in my opinion but every assignment he had an outline that you'd fill in which was SO helpful. 10/10 would recommend him.
A lot of his assignments were slightly useless. All the assignments he provides a template outlining exactly how it should look. As long as you put in effort you'll pass with a 4.0.
Mr. Pedersen is a wonderful instructor. All his assignments had outlines, which were extremely helpful. I felt that all the assignments were very useful and really helped solidify my understanding of APA. He gives you clear expectations and as long as you put in the work, you will pass. He truly wants his students to be successful.
I had him for English 235, and I dreaded that class the entire quarter. He isn't a bad professor but needs to be clearer when explaining assignments. He also never responds to emails, like EVER, which was pretty frustrating. I recommend this class if you have every morning Monday through Thursday open or are still in high school.
This class was a bit challenging but he had very clear outlines that made the assignments very manageable. He's super caring and will respond pretty quick to emails. This class teaches you a lot and is very beneficial for people actually wanting to learn.
This professor is probably the worst one I ever had. He is never clear on assignments and what he is looking for. He get's off topic every single lecture and never covers what he has to cover on the class agenda for that day. Pederson is very slow and never answers emails. AVOID HIM.
Bob is a great teacher, but be prepared to essentially be lectured for two straight hours when you attend this class in person. Each class session builds on the last, and your final paper is built on all the previous work done.
This class has been alright. My main gripe is that he has his big assignments due on Sundays which is not a nice day to put homework on. Secondly, he doesn't use the Modules section in Canvas, which makes things harder to navigate - you have to use the Calendar. This can be a frustrating thing, and I rate all who don't use it a lower rating.
Great guy, great professor, and great class overall. Tbh easiest class ever he fives so much time for homework and he is mad chill. As long as your there everyday and do not procrastinate easy A.
