Never collects homework but goes over it in class. Midterm was harder than expected and he makes you write a paper comparing annual reports. You should attend every class so you don't fall behind because his tests seem to cover everything in class.

He is a really nice guy. He wants you to do well, cares about his students. If you go to class and pay attention you can do pretty well. Study hard for the tests, they can be kind of hard but it all comes from class.

I thought Prof. Ryan was a great teacher. He truly cares about how his students do in and outside of school. If you are an accounting major, take him. He's awesome...anyone who can keep my attention for a three hour accounting night class has to be.

Take Ryan before retires from teaching.True entrpreneur with many of his own start up businesses. He is a CPA and earned his MA from NWU. FUNNY, SMART, INTELLECTUAL. One of the best teachers at depaul. Very helpful and explains material VERY well. quizzes and tests are very reasonable and fair, nothing tricky, drops the lowest quiz. he makes a three-hour class go by very quickly and makes class participate. TAKE HIM.

He is the man. Very nice and helpful professor. Take him over any accounting professor at Depaul. All other accounting professors are too serious and think they know it all. Not helpful at all. Wendorf is one of these, she thinks she knows it all and is not helpful.

The best teacher for your first accounting class. Read the chapter before the class, do the HW after and listen to him during the lectures. Will get an A. He makes you think and analyze how different things are related in business and what is the reasoning behind it. Great teacher ! A nice guy!

I hate accounting but Bob actually made accounting fun and easy to understand. He incorporates real world examples, personal stories, and humor into his lectures to keep the class fun. he also know what he's talking about. i definetly would take him over again for another accounting course.

Great teacher, easy to understand and very helpful. He goes at the pace of the class not of the syllabus. It is a very interactive course which is helpful since it is accounting but you still have to study to get an A. I would recommend taking him especially for first timers.

He will let you know what you need to study for on exams. Overall, he was a good accounting teacher. His lectures can be boring but he will throw out some important real world knowledge from time to time. Do the reading and participate in class and he will reward you for it.

Despite having an accounting phobia, I got through this class just fine. He starts off a little slower to get everyone comfortable with the basic concepts, then speeds it up towards the end. If you pay attention, take notes, and do the homework you'll do just fine. Final paper was actually kind of fun to do. Great teacher!

Ryan knows what he is talking about. He is the kind of professor who will apply the required material to actual read life experiences. As lame as it may sound, he makes accounting fun and interesting. Midterm and Final are straight forward but you still need to study. He will never trick you on the exams.

Probably the best prof for 101 & 102. He is not all that clear in the lectures, but he goes through many practice problems in class that you get the hang of it. He is very clear on the exam material, and its really not bad if you study from the handouts. Quizzes can be tough though.

One of DePaul's very best: very knowledgeable, focused, significant experience, and knows how to teach. He expects students to read the material and be prepared for a seminar format class: he calls on everyone each week to answer an open-ended question. He has high standards and if you do the work, you'll learn a lot.

Accounting can be very difficult filled with A LOT of information to learn however, Professor Ryan is an amazing teacher.. Attendance is mandatory but it is totally worth it because the examples he gives in class are VERY helpful. Overall, he is a great teacher, i took him for 101 & 102 and i loved him.. I totally recommend him to anyone.

One of the best profs I've had. What is on the homework is on the test. Just that simple. He will go over concepts in class, will consistently ask if the class understands. If you don't raise your hand and ask if you don't understand, its your fault. Always willing to take the time to explain concepts.

Prof. Bob is very good and clear in what he expects from the class. This class is extremely good for people with zero accounting background. He goes slow and methodical and understand different perspective people bring into the class. You will learn accounting. Take him!

Great professor, smart and funny. Come to class prepared by doing the questions otherwise you'll be lost when he reviews them in class. Make sure to ask questions if you don't understand the material as exams are based on class questions, some are even taked straight from the class questions!!!

Professor Ryan is the best teacher I have had at DePaul. His jokes and fun nature makes taking an Accounting class actually interesting...something I thought I would never say. Make sure to do the class questions, they are exactly like the tests (some are even the actual questions).

The class is difficult, no doubt on this one! However, thanks to his notes it's at least somehow easier to understand. There were many questions not answered or that couldn't be even heard, though i woulnd't blame the teacher for that; there is simply to many chapters for this class and it's impossible to cover all of them in one quarter PERIOD!

AWESOME --- The material is hard so hold on to your seat belt the class moves fast. Keep up with each chapter or you will be lost. Prof. Ryan is funny and is crystal clear when you are confused. He has high standards for his students. I wish all of my ACC Prof. were half this good! Take him for ACC 383 too.

Professor Ryan uses real life examples to help clarify his points, which is good if you do not have an accounting background. Test are not easy but they are fair and he gives you review questions to assist in studying. Overall, I would highly recommend him and would take him again if need be.

Professor Ryan is very good at what he does - he definitely understands Financial Accounting and tries to incorporate what is currently happening in the business world into his lectures. I liked Bob and his class. Randomly calls on students but not in an intimidating way...you will get used to it. Spends much of class time giving examples, so it requires studying outside of class if u want a good grade. 20% 6 quizzes (1 drop) 35% midterm and 40% final and 5% lab. Recommended, take Bob if you get the chance!

Guy has an huge ego. He tells the class review @5 and shows up an hr late with no explanation. He is a decent teacher but his test are next to impossible. With a big curve the Avg. was below a C. He uses questions from the actual CPA exam. I understand he is a teacher & we're student but he acts like you don't deserve to breath the same air as him.

He'd be a cool guy, if he wasn't your teacher. He tells long, tedious, and confusing stories the entire class while completely disregarding what he's supposed to be teaching. He never uses the book, only his own notes, but all of the quizzes, the midterm, and the final use the book, not his notes. And Cengage is useless, don't waste your money.

He's very unorganized and very unclear. He knows a lot, I give him a credit for that, but unfortunately he does not know how to teach. Sometimes makes mistakes while explaining problems. He is very arrogant and self centered. Talks about BS, his sons, how great he is, and that Apple is THE place to work. Skips a lot of info thats important.

The best ACC 101 professor you can take. He does examples on the board, goes over homework(doesn't collect/grade), interacts with you during class and doesn't just lecture, and holds incredibly helpful review sessions before the midterm and final. I probably gave this class a 6-7 effort out of 10 and got on B+.

True to what the professor says, tax is a different beast than accounting. I found it tough because there are a number of exceptions and clauses to tax laws. Study hard for this one!

I really liked Prof. Ryan. At first, he is very intimidating because he knows what he is talking about and will call you out. But with that being said, you do need to do the work he assigns and study your butt off because, at least for me, accounting didn't come easy. If you ask for help and show that you care, he will help you out!

I worked by butt off in this class. I'm not the smartest person in the world, but ended up with a B in this class. But enough about me, Bob was a really good Instructor and cared about his students. Won't give you any extra credit, or show you any favorability. But WILL help u as a student and wants EVERYONE to do well.

The professor is very helpful. His stories are easy to relate to the material. He has a great command for the subject and knows how to teach students. One of the best accounting professors here. You will have to put in a great deal of work. He is not easy, but you will learn from him. Exams are tricky. Do study guides, and HW questions.

I recommend taking him since he teaches clearly and ensures you understand the material. Quizzes and test are a tad difficult, but manageable if you study hard plus he drops 2 of your quizzes. he calls out on you so be prepared to provide an answer. attendance also mandatory

He was a great professor who took all the time his students needed. We did countless practice problems, and he told us exactly what would and would not be tested. Exams were easier than the quizzes and practice problems from class. Students did not do HW and talked during lecture, not his fault!

Ryan is an awesome teacher. He was one of the only professor's that I liked to listen to and enjoyed him as my teacher. He is a tough grader, but prepares you well for the midterm and final. They were much easier than his tests. Listen in class and do what he says and you will get an A! Awesome guy and I can't wait to take him again.

Great teacher. Probably the best I've had throughout college. This is not typically an interesting class but he makes it one. He genuinely wants you to succeed. I strongly recommend taking him. It's not easy but he will teach you what you need to know and the rest is up to you. An A is definitely attainable in this class.

Great Professor! I highly recommend. Go to almost all his classes/ do well on his "take home quizes" and he'll hook you up with 3% or more on your final grade. Man was extremely successful so he knows recruiters too. If accounting is your major get yourself noticed. Also really nice guy

One of the best professors I have had at DePaul! He uses a lot of real-life examples from his wide background in accounting and finance, which makes the class interesting. Takes a lot of time going over problems that will be on tests. Very personable, very helpful if you need it. Really wants his students to do well and he makes it easy to do so.

He doesn't lower your grade for missing class, but the quizzes are based on the lecture more than the book. Attend all classes. The material is difficult but he makes it as easy as possible. He will award extra points for attendance. He really cares about his students and patiently explains all material. Take his class!

Mr. Ryan makes 380 a lot more enjoyable than it could have been. He is very interactive in his presentations, which helps to remember a difficult subject. The topic takes a lot of studying if you want to do well though, so don't expect to squeeze by. A lot of students did not like him, but I think it's because they were not willing to study.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TAKING THIS PROFESSOR. He's extremely unhelpful and very ambiguous about the class expectations. He makes you feel stupid for asking questions or if you don't understand something. He expects you to know everything before he has taught it to you. He just has all-around negative energy.

Very hard class, you really have to come prepared by reading ahead. Do not even think of cramming. Tons of people got C's. A "C"was the norm and some people did not pass the class. The final was cumulative so go to his office hours to study previous exams. All M.C.

No power points. Likes to keep class alert. Class questions helped, the test questions are similar in difficulty. If you understand the class questions and why answers are right AND wrong it will help you. Your grade is 3 exams which is good bcuz it means less material for each test. Use an old edition of the book, I used a 2 yr. old edition & A.

Don't buy/read the book, focus on class questions and the bullet points during the lecture and you will do fine. The final is cumulative but focuses on the basics.

Bases class around CPA exam questions. Big curve on tests. Explains material clearly, but refuses to answer questions in class. If you need to ask questions to understand the material, plan on spending a lot of time at his office hours, where he is very helpful. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK, ITS USELESS costs about $300 and you wont use it once.

Honestly, Robert Ryan is a nice guy but he picks on students and puts them on the spot. First day of class he made some poor kids get up in front of everyone and talk. Literally felt uncomfortable in his class the entire quarter. Wastes a lot of time. Not too difficult besides that. Don't buy textbook. He is helpful if needed. Mandatory attendance.

Attendance is mandatory. Class is structured around 3 tests. The first test is much easier than the other two. Conveys the material clearly, also a very nice guy. Questions on the tests come straight from the Class Questions. He does not go over all of the answers to the class questions. See him in office hours and he will show you how to do them.

GREAT lecturer, but tests are HARD, slight curve. Hes great at connecting the dots, so to speak, but a lot of that gets lot when you take the tests. Material is difficult to understand, expect to reteach yourself when it comes to the heavy math. He likes to put kids on the spot and make them answer questions about the lectures, its uncomfortable.

Fantastic professor! Professor Ryan uses the Socratic method. Make's you more confident in your answers and decisions. A great professor to get to know! He is fantastic!

He's the type of prof who really makes you earn it in the classroom. When you ask him a question, often he will answer back with a question of his own, making you feel even more confused and awk at the same time. His intentions are simply to make everyone in the class succeed, but in my opinion, he does it in the wrong way.

After reading some comments, I think many do a disservice to Mr. Ryan. People seem to agree that he is a genuine person, which he is. During his lectures, he'll occasionally call on people and it might make people uncomfortable. Personally, I find that to be a positive. Leave your comfort zone people! His test questions are a tad confusing.

Walked in terrified of accounting, left loving it and genuinely interested in the subject. Great lectures and awesome real world examples. One of my favorite professors thus far. As a Kellogg grad and ex CFO, you will gain valuable business knowledge through Mr. Ryan. I would highly recommend.

Professor Ryan was among the best professors I've had. He's a seasoned professional giving back to the institution by sharing his knowledge with the students. Grade is based off 5/6 quizzes, midterm and final. You aren't required to go lecture, but his notes and examples best help you understand the material. He's very interactive, too.

Mr. Ryan is THE BEST professor I have ever had at DePaul. The class is not easy, but Mr. Ryan really knows how to deliver the material so everybody understands it. He is very intelligent and nice person. Definitely would take him again!

This is not an easy class but Bob does a really good job explaining the material and preparing you for every test. He goes over every homework assignment, provides test reviews. I walked in his class thinking Tax will be very annoying but i left the class with a lot of knowledge and really liked the class. Totally recommend he is simply awesome!

Prof. Ryan is overall a very good professor. He has real world experience and presents challenging material in an easy to learn way. Lectures can be dry, but pay attention in this class and you will succeed - his expectations are clear. I am not into accounting in the slightest, but I do feel that I understand it much better thanks to Prof. Ryan.

So the review below is completely blown out of proportion. Professor Ryan is a great teacher. He tells you exactly what is on the midterm (which he stated was multiple choice, T/F and matching. Nothing is surprise to us on tests and quizzes. He explains everything to real life situations. He is always available for any help outside of class.

Professor Ryan is alright, definitely a smart guy. Calls on you when you don't want to be called on. Gives you an "are you stupid?" look if you incorrectly answer his questions. I found his exams to be unfair since they contained at least 3 'trick' questions that would always cause me to have at least 10 pts off . Stuff he didnt teach was on exams.

Bob, is a fantastic professor for accounting. Whether you are a student who is majoring in ACC or need to take this as part of your BUS requirements, this is the guy to take. Also, I would advise anyone taking him to understand that what you put in is what you will get out. He by far is very clear on what will be on the exams and quizzes.

Tests are on things you don't learn about in class, makes examples into long winded stories about irrelevant topics like going to costco and owning 4 bmws, & sent an email after the course was over patting himself on the back for good feedback and criticizing negative feedback (which says a lot about him in my opinion)

This professor is great! This will not be an easy class, the professor will challenge you to understand the material. This is awesome because you learn a ton and his class is not boring at all. For an accounting professor, he does a phenomenal job! Put in the work and you will get a good grade! Extremely brilliant man! TAKE HIM FOR ACCOUNTING!

bob has easily become my favorite professor at depaul, and i genuinely wish i could take him for every accounting class. he directly relates his material back to real world examples and makes lectures relatively easy to understand. fair warning, he makes earn your grade, but you will genuinely take away a lot from this course.

He is awesome. One of the best lectures you will sit in. The class is for sure difficult, but very achievable. He does make you work for it, and you MUST pay attention in class to do well. His lectures are very engaging and he makes everything very relatable.

Robert Ryan is an okay professor. He needs to tone down the #MAGA comments. He can get a bit political which makes the class setting uncomfortable. Overall the lectures are pretty good but can get dry sometimes. He can attempt to amp up the lectures with more energy.

Bob is K. Very hard class with tough material. His lectures are good but he leaves a lot of necessary information out which is in the book. He has some issue with Democrats and I believe it's inappropriate to go off topic while in a class setting.

His exams are tough. Hes good at speaking and keeping you engaged. Wont take him again if hes teaching 383. I took the time to look up AICPA tax questions that they provide as examples. They are more clear in the information they are asking for compared to his. Plus I would recommend him use grammarly next time when writing his notes.

Well whatcan I say. His exams are hard! Smooth talker, kinda comes off as a used car salesmen. His stories are elaborate and connect with the material he is trying to teach. I highly doubt that half of the stories he tells are true. He should definitely recommend the students to read. I dont know why he didnt like our class. Go Liberals!

Professor Ryan is an ok guy. The stories he tells are interesting. He gets off topic and rambles on about how successful his career was. I dont believe had that great of a career if hes teaching at DePaul. The information he teaches is good. He has good material and instruction. Not a fan of his Baptist type preaching on politics.

Some of these reviews surprised me, I had Professor Ryan for an online class and really enjoyed it. When you think of an online accounting class during the summer term you cringe. But this was one of the best online classes I've ever taken. Keep up and study adequately and you'll do fine. DO THE CLASS QUESTIONS!!

No book needed. Study the note packets and class questions and you will pass with at least a B. Attendance isn't mandatory but is mentally noted for future references. No surprises as far as tests. Be prepared to participate in real life scenarios. They aren't to intimidate you but to put things into perspective. Very friendly NO PHONES!

can be a little intimidating cause he likes to call on students, but not too bad. Class is clear, so as long as you go to class and do the work in his packets you should be good. Textbook is not needed at all so don't bother buying. Posts lectures online so you can go over anything you are having trouble with. Would recommend

One of the best Professors. You will learn so many things that you will be able to explain to others easily as well. Tests are challenging, pay a lot of attention to HW and Quizzes handouts and be very attentive to details (most fail here when taking the exams). He will do a lot to see everyone successful, and easily fail you if you put no effort.

Good real life examples. Talks slow and doesn't always say what he means. Be ready to put time in outside of class. Tough material for sure but he lets you know what to study and gives you ample material to study. Grades were final, midterm, and 6 quizes. He drops the lowest quiz. Show up to lectures. no talking or phones during class.

This professor is amazing. He uses real life stories and engages the entire class in discussion which makes the class so much. Just the perfect amount of challenging. I learned so much from him beyond the scope of the class. He is a truly gifted teacher. Unfortunaly, he is the only great teacher I have experienced at DePaul so far.

He is the most inconsiderate professor I have ever had at DEPAUL. Does not care that we are going through a pandemic and protests and is the only accounting professor that still makes us take a final that surprisingly EVERYONE scored so low on... Don't take him he has the worst attitude and could care less about coronavirus!!!!

Really challenging prof., material not well formatted. Every chapter was rushed and you had to teach yourself before materials were taught, but most of the lectures are pointless and off topic. I hope he retires for the better of future strobel classes.

Robert J (The accounting one) Ryan is a tough but great professor. He uses real life examples in his lectures to connect with course materials. The six quizzes were all good resources to see what you needed improvement on and the lowest is dropped. There was nothing on the midterm or final that we did not discuss and both had a small curve applied.

Lots of self studying. Class is about real life situations, does relate to the topic he's teaching about but it can go on for a while. Overall a nice professor and accessible in office hours. The course material is very difficult. Professor Ryan often tells stories to teach a topic, so pay attention. Also, he will call on random students during class, so pay attention. The key to this class is mastering the homework and studying the notes. Final is cumulative so it's a good idea to review tests 1 and 2 during office hours.

The class consists of weekly quizzes, 15 questions, that are not too difficult. If you study the class questions, a weekly homework assignment, then you should do fine on the quizzes. They are basically the same questions on the quiz just with different numbers.

This professor is the absolute worst.. Tax is already hard enough, but with his teaching you have to memorize 120 pages of notes, and even after that you aren't guarantee that you'll do well on his exams because he puts info you didnt even learn. He doesnt teach but just gives stories about his life. Good thing he's "retiring"

Professor Ryan's class is a mixed bag. While his stories can be interesting, he tends to ramble and interject his personal views. The material itself is good, but the exams are notoriously difficult, leaving many struggling. Using Unstuck ai alongside the textbook can really help with study prep.

He likes to call on people a lot. If you understand the material and are fine with weekkly quizzes, take him. He does not use Cengage and makes his practice questions for you to do for homework. He is a good guy, but sometimes can come off a bit condescending. Good teacher if you get on his good side. Just show him you care and try to participate.
