Great instructor! Excellent knowledge of the subject. Doesn't assign hardly any homework with the exception of a 7-10 pg research paper that you have the entire quarter to work on. Very easy- no midterms OR final, just quizzes every couple weeks. Uses a very good text. However, his voice can make lectures rather boring, and I would not reccomend taking a 4 hour Friday class. You'll fall asleep. He also has a hard time keepin some students quiet in the class, and that can be distracting. Otherwise, I highly reccomend him.

This is an excellent teacher! If you are just in college for the grades don't bother. This teacher likes in depth discussions and real thought. If you are really interested (or think you might be)in learning about politics this is your teacher. There is no one better in the poli sci department at De Anza.

One of the best teachers at De Anza. The class is very easy if you do the reading. No final, no midterm, just quizes based on the reading and lectures. And he usually goes over the material for the test before you take it. As long as you are not lazy you can learn something and get a fairly good grade. Take his course.

Stockwell is a very good instructor. His classes are based upon student input, so often you'll have a great deal of diversity in his class. Because of this, his classes tend to fall behind schedule. He expects a big research paper/presentation at the end of the quarter, but he nurses students along the way to ensure success.

I took this class in summer 2005. I was never into politics, but Mr. Stockwell made the class fun & interesting. Group discussions are fun, get you involve & understand the subj better. There r 4 exams, 20 mult quest, 2-3 chapt/test. Hint: Read the book & use the "online" review. For sure, u'll get at least a B. I didn't like politics & I got an A.

I had Bob last quarter and am taking him again. He is always excited about what he is talking about. He is understanding and grades fair. He has his own opinions but respects everyone's, even though they might oppose his. He wants to hear from everyone. He never made you feel stupid for asking a question you thought might sound sillly.

Excellent teacher, take his friday class. 1 midterm and 1 final with many extra credit opportunities. Lazy people or English is your second language or simply you had no high school government experience or no interest what-so-ever in it then a C is doable even a B. To get an A you have read the book, doing the online quizzes will help, work hard!!

What a gentleman he is. Honestly, one of the bests at DA. He tries to encourage the students to participate in the friendly political discussions while he listens to every word anybody says with patience. Covers the most important points of the book. Shows useful shocking political documentaries. One Midterm (multiple choice) and a take home final.

I find this class extremely difficult if you're not a good writer. As your grade is best on essays and a research paper. So if english isn't your first language this class will be challegeing. Although he gives a lot of help a long the way. the class layout is still bias in its own way.

He's a great teacher and very clear. You have to read the book because he only gives take home essay assignments and no exams. You also have to do a research paper for the final, so there are no actual exams. He's really helpful and nice, so the class isn't that hard. He doesn't really lecture that much, but you still have to come everday.

Reading the textbook is a MUST. Collected work consists of take-home essays about each country case study. Lectures are of little use, but he will drop you if you don't show up. Final research paper requires extra attention to detail and should be tailored exactly how he wants it done or you will get marked down. overall class was good experience.

Class Stared with 50 ended with about 15 students. Excellent teacher but...it takes more than hard work to make it in his class. You need to have a background in poli, be good at wrtting essays, and it wouldn't hurt to have taken an econ. class. He's very helpfull. But wastes alot of class time.

He teaches this class hard because it is intended for Poli Sci majors, those who aren't I don't know why you're even taking it, those who are...you should be ashamed of yourself for being weak and not being able to hang because UCs will not give you multiple choice tests all essays so this is good prep

He doesn't deserve all these harsh comments. I know that most people think it's a waste of time to go to his class because he doesn't really discuss the things that's going to be on the exams. He spent more time on your research paper, which is actually 60% of your grade. He's the most helpful teacher ever. Tho, he grades our rsch paper really hard

I took his Comparative Politics class last spring (Poli2) and absolutely loved him. He is just and kind and welcomes all perspectives- but he will make you THINK and work hard. This class humbled me and offered me a more hopeful perspective on the state of the world. (Nice Change)

Writing assignments are either about what your views are, or he shows you where to find the answer to his questions and does not require formality.I recommend taking his class if you have to. Stockwell is kinda weird, but still reallllllyyy nice. He loves helping students, and is very flexible and approachable. All of the lectures are online, and he makes it easy to take notes from the powerpoint. You feel very prepared for the tests just by being in class. I didn't even open the book, and I got a B.

Stocky is a great man. I had the pleasure of taking him for Poli 2 and 5. Poli 2 isn't that hard although he emphasized the research paper. If you keep up with it and ASK him for help, it's a breeze. The tests were super easy but I didn't try so hard on the essay so I ended up with a B+. Poli 5 was child's play and I recommend taking it from him.

The paper is intimidating at 50% of the grade, but it wasn't as bad as I had imagined. The class is fun, with a kick-back attitude. I wish he lectured more on the course content rather then on how to write the paper. Its a lot of work, but it was fun for me as a Poli Sci major. He, as a person is absolutely wonderful. He'll lecture for 5 minutes, and the rest of the class is a debate on what everyone thinks. I could care less what they think about foreign policy. His test's are very difficult.

Dr. Stockwell is a brilliant professor and intellectual, best of the best at De Anza. His knowledge and competence is beyond human imagination. You just name a country or organization and he will tell you everything about it. I?m POLI SCIE major and learned everything from this genius. JUST TAKE HIM.

International relations is my major & this is the hardest class i have ever taken. stockwell is very helpful but too demanding. if polisci is your world, then take him, otherwise...it's just too much work, too much studying, too much reading, and way too hard overall. took IR with him, liked it so much took comparative politics with him too. extremely knowledgable, integrative of different political opinions among students. has really inspired me. best teacher ever, highly recommended. just don't slack off, and if you are then that says more about you and your habits than the classes/profs you have.

One of the greatest professors I ever met at De Anza! A fair grader, no tricky test. Do all the readings and you will master in the class. I guess one of the "bad" things is that Dr. Stockwell encourages students talking too much, and sometimes the discussion goes lame. I would prefer a more "lecture base" class. Definitely take a class with him!

Students with a background of American Politics will probably find his lectures stimulating. As an international student, I find his lecture quite hard to follow. He doesn't lecture from the book that much, usually brings up his own topics. 1 midterm, 1 final. 2 writing assignments. 12 hours of MANDATORY community service. Reasonable workload.

Honestly the best teacher I have ever had. He doesn't even want you to address him by Dr. or Mr. Stockwell, just simply, Bob. Definitely student centered--cares about your success and he is always there to help. STRONGLY RECOMMEND him as both a professor and a mentor.

i took him over the fall quarter for polisci. he's the easiest prof around. all you have to do is 12 hours of community service that you can bs on. if you have the common understanding of difference between democrat and rep. you will do well. easy A, but i messed up on first exam so i got B. common sense, and it will be useful. no need to read book

This class was a lot of fun. Bob opened up everything to discussion- so we definitely got off track a lot but it was all relevant. Read the book because that's where the tests come from. He also posts 9 possible essay topics online, so you have time to plan (he picks 3, 1 EC). Overall, pretty easy class that you'll be glad you took.

I had previously dropped the other classes. And I am really glad that I took this class. I learned a lot and in a way Dr. Stockwell opened my eyes to a few things. I highly recommend him. Im a polisci major and i took him for poli 1,2,3 and 5. Its not an easy A. YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK!There is only a midterm and a final. For his poli 2 and 3 class, you have to do a group research project, and this part was the most challenging. Awesome teacher! I took the class for General Ed and got an A. makes class interesting and if you do miss class read the chapters you'll be fine. I did the community service class make sure you do your hours. A 21 multiple choice midterm and 2 short essay questions ( he gives 9-10 and choses 2 on the day of the test).

Robert Stockwell has been the best teacher I've had by far. He really cares about every one of his students and wants them to actually learn. If you need help, he will always be there to answer your questions either by email or in his office hours. He grades hard, but if you prepare and go to class, it will be easier. Grade is mostly made up of the civic engagement project, one midterm, final, and assorted assignments/presentations. Super easy A, no one really does the reading. Posts midterm and final questions online to study from and a subset of those end up on the exam. Lectures can be boring, but class is fun and Bob is an awesome guy.

Bob is such a genuine guy! I was lucky enough to have him during elections, so it made it easier to understand the material and his lectures. He is very passionate with his profession and he really cares about you individually! Bob is a great guy and I highly recommend this course!

He's really professional and smart, but I honestly have no idea how he grades tests. The exams are all free response, and he gives the questions before test, but some people get Cs and others get As for putting basically the exact same answers. I got a B+. Also I don't do well in group projects - a problem when group work is half your grade.

This teacher was so much fun, I really enjoyed his class because the lectures felt like group discussions where you could actually interact with the teacher. The homework was very light and his own political opinions were very based. As a socialist who took his class, he is very much on the leftist side which made me more willing to go to class.

Very easy class but if you want to learn theory this is not the class for it. We did a Civic Engagement Project that required 12 h of volunteer work for a political organization - 40% of the grade. We were given potential Final Exam questions beforehand. Textbook was free. Lectures end up being opinion speeches not lecturing the material. Easy A.

Professor Stockwell was an amazing and passionate teacher. He knew his stuff, and he was always eager to share his knowledge with us. He always encouraged us to share our opinions. In Poli5 we had one group project, one midterm, and a final. The midterm and final were free response essay questions, but if you read the textbook you will be fine. 5*

Amazing professor! So caring and so thoughtful to each of his students. The in-class discussions are enjoyable and the group work is fairly easy if you have good partners. As long as you go to his class and participate in the discussions you will do great.

Prof stockwell was such an amazing teacher. He truly cared very much for his students, and it was evident in the way he taught. His class was so beyond easy, and was the easiest A I've gotten. I learned a lot in the process as well. I highly recommend taking him for POLI 1

Bob is so chill! His class is not hard at all, and he teaches in a very accessible way and is kind to explain concepts you don't understand. There is a volunteering project with a 12-hour minimum volunteering requirement, so keep that in mind. That's the only essay, and the midterm and final are both multiple-choice.

Professor Stockwell runs an engaging class - lectures feel like discussions. While light on theory, the civic engagement project and study tools like Unstuck ai make it an easy A worth taking.

One of the kindest teachers I've ever had. His commitment to democratic values is admirable. Really cares about his students and 40-50% of the grade is a 12 hr volunteer project. Which is great. Very hands on. He wants people to be involved in their community. Only complaint is he can go on a little! It's mostly just because he likes to be clear.

Not a tough grader at all, and there are only really a few assignments throughout the quarter. The major ones are two group projects, randomly assigned (which I absolutely hated, so maybe avoid if you dislike

The main assignment is the civic engagement project (12 hrs) which is 40% of your grade, you have to volunteer somewhere & document your hours & write a 2-3 page essay about it, there is about 1 in class assignment each week that is worth a couple of points, the midterm & final are both 20 questions for 100 points and are very easy

this professor was put on this earth to make every student's life easier!!! he teaches many eye-opening and valuable pieces of information about politics that needs to be discussed! there were 2 exams, 1 project and 1 essay, but they were all very easy! this was a synchronous class so make sure to attend the online meetings and participate!
