Bob's lectures are great. He makes you almost like Freud. At least when he is lecturing you understand psychological theories
Bob was fabulous! Easily the best class I've taken at Shoreline. His lectures were captivating - not an easy feat! He made the entire class fun and I LOVED his class. I wish that he taught more classes - he's great!!!!
My class was fantastic! He makes you enjoy the topics he covers and keeps you captivated!

Bob is one of the best teachers I've ever met. I I chose 5 for easiness, which I mean is that he makes the subject very easy to learn. Excellent! It's not easy to get good grade in his class unless you study hard.
great class, easy to learn...now, if only Bob could work on his basketball skills a bit more..

Awesome teacher! Very good speaker, makes the material interesting and presents it in an fun way. He'll tell you what you are expected to know on the tests. Multiple choice tests with small essays on points covered in class.
Absolutely wonderful professor! He is so clear, and makes even dry material (eg parts of the brain) seem interesting. Is not above hopping up on tables to make a point. No homework, has a class-long journal, tests are multiple choice w/short, easy essays. Final is all multiple choice, from old tests
Bob was a total riot. His class generally consists of stories making it very relatable to real life. Ask him why he doesn't eat stewed tomatoes.
He is possible the greatest teacher ever. He is the funniest and easiest teacher. He explains everything in such a way, that you can't forget. He acts out most of the experiments, andsoo freking funny. If you thinking of taking any psych classes, you have to take him. he will make your life better.
best teacher i've ever had at shoreline.
He is a great professor! Very entertaining and keeps you focused and interested in the material! He does a great job of explaining everything. He is very nice and he cares about helping students succeed. Definitely take a class with him!
i LOVED BOB!!! he is the best teacher i've had at SCC...really knows what hes talking about and is such a kind man!! the tests are a little hard though, u really have to study and attend class..but trust me, you wont mind attending!!
Bob is by far the best teacher out there!!! He makes his class so interesting by using his own personal experiences. He teaches his class in such a way that once you left class, your still thinking about what he talked about in class. I learned alot in
Very entertaining in class, helped me to increase my better studying habits. I suggest this professor to people who want to take psychology.
Inspired me to be a psych major up at western. He is AMAZING and tells the best stories. He is a total Jamaican at heart, so he taught me about the "No worries" attitude. He is the best professor I have ever had (and I'm now at 180 total credits) and he looks kinda like Bruce Willis.
NOT a beginners course. Expectations in this class are 4 hours studying per day, 6 hours online tutorials per week, reading about 7 chapters per two weeks, and an activity journal documenting what you've done/learned. A little excessive with the expectations of homework, however, it is a good class to discover whether you like Psych or not.
Bob is an AWESOME instructor! He presents the material in ways that makes you wish the class was 4 hours instead of almost 3. He keeps your attention, makes you laugh and has the type of energy that I wish all professors had. He is by far the best teacher I have ever had in all my years of school. TAKE HIS COURSE, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
Bob is an awesome teacher. He is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his subject. Very approachable and easy going. You NEED to know your stuff for the exams..they're not easy. Just attend lecture everyday and study..you'll do fine :) Trust me..he makes it interesting so you want to attend class.
good teacher and really cool guy.but class involves an huge amount of reading and time to be spent out of class working on things which begins to become difficult while taking other classes its a bit overwhelming. but as a teacher he is great the class is really intersesting and he is enetertaining when he lectures
While his lectures are thorough and interesting, he barely covers the material in the book. Half of his exams come from the book as arbitrary multiple choice questions. There's a lot to read and you have to guess what he will be testing you on which is not related at all to what's important material. He's testing to see if you read it.
He is passionate, and unafraid of uncomfortable subject matter. He's very entertaining, and made me excited to delve into the material. He does have a tendency to expatiate, so open discussion is not very common in his class, but that's forgivable in that he's extremely knowledgeable, and helpful if you're having trouble with anything.
A very very knowledgeable teacher, he can make u to start to see the world differently. One of the best things in his class would be his sharing of his experience (I like his vending machine story the most). In his class, you must respect him, cos he respects every student in his class. I can bet u, any question u ask him, he can answer u for 100%
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought he was an awesome instructor!
His class is really interesting. He give out examples so you can relate to topics better. But sometimes he repeat one point over and over again. He wanted students to make about 26 journals at the end of quarters, which take up some amount of time. Lots of readings involve and the tests is somewhat hard.
The exams are hard ( you'll do good with the multiple choice if you read the book and make sure you take notes on his lectures for the essays). But he is very considerate, fun teacher and very down to earth. I learned a lot from him as a teacher and as a person. He is the best teacher in Shoreline!
You know how when you read a REALLY good book, and you try to read it in such a way as to remember every word? How you don't want it to end? Bob's lifespan development class is like that. It's material so valuable that it's worth every minute you spend reading and in class, and it quite possibly may change the way you live your life.
Bob has great stories! They're all applicable to the material and you never forget them. He's easy to relate to, easy going, and does what he can to help you pass. This is not to be read that there is no work involved. You do have to make an effort because there is a lot to learn. Bob is clear and helpful and reasonable.
Bob was awesome! I took two of his classes, and he's an extrodinary teacher. In 100, there was alot of repetition, but with the pathetic attendence (these are college students?) that was probably good. There's a certain Bobness to him that I've never seen anyone else but a Jamaican truly capture. He's leisurely captiving.
Take Bob's classes he is a great teacher, makes coming to class fun because of his interesting stories.
Mr. Thompson is an awesome psychology teacher. I took Life Span Development with him and learned so much. He's always willing to help you out and make sure you are understanding what's going on. Lectures are long but mostly interesting. He is a very interesting and funny guy. Take his class.
Take Thompson's class. My favorite teacher from Shoreline. He keeps class interesting by telling funny stories. A very good professor, I would recommend this class to anybody.
hes a cool techer. this is an interesting class and i look forward to going.
Not totally sold on Bob. His lectures are interesting but his tests draw mainly on the readings. Many of the questions are about small things in the text that you wouldn't even notice, and he doesn't give study guides. His expectations are somewhat unclear for the readings and journals. This class ruined my 4.0 cum. Good class, but no rave review.
The longer I know him, the less I like him. He lets us call him Bob, but in every other way acts superior and condescending. He gives no consideration to his students as people. There is no preparation for tests; it's impossible to study as he never tells us what he expects us to know. Seems like he'd be a nice guy if he could get over himself.
I enjoyed the class, and he is a fun teacher, but his tests are HARD! I love the review days for them, because without them I would be even more lost. I might take a class by him again, because his stories were hilarious...but I think I would investigate the other teachers at SHCC first.
Bob was a great professor, his lectures were thought provoking and so emotive at times it was hard to keep my eyes dry. Also, I thought the hotness factor was there...
Great teaching style! I usually get bored during lectures, but his stories always kept me intrigued. He is fair with grading, and hates it when students talk while he is lecturing. (I agree- it is pretty rude.) I learned a lot in his class. He encourages you to take in all perspectives, and links the content in class to real life situations.
Wow!!! My favorite teacher of all time...I'd take another class just to hear the lectures again. LOVE IT!
very hard class but really interesting. Lectures are amazing and I totally have a crush on him.
AMAZING INSTRUCTOR! Go to every class, which is not hard to do since his lectures are fun to listen to!!! Favorite prof by far!! Tests are 30 questions multiple choice, 3 essay questions (but if you go to class essays are EASY!)
no comment :)
He is the BEST teacher I have ever had and he ALWAYS will be! He has influenced my life like no other. Amazingly interesting class and he includes personal (and quite hilarious) stories to make it really stick! Honestly, take this class even if you aren't required to! It changed my life! I love Bob Thompson!
very good teaching style. things are just so easy to remember when he teaches. He gives good study guides. Very emotional class. Sometimes he seems under the weather. His stories are the talk of the school. However the text is very heavy but its not always the first source to use.
One of the best instructors I've ever had - interesting, clear, memorable, honest, transparent... well worth attending every lecture!
Fabulous instructor! I have had many instructors in this type of field (around 150cr worth) and he is one of the best, even over some at a nearby major university!
he always talks far from the topic. he likes picking on students..
you will need to be in lecture but you will want to be in lecture.
Best teacher I have ever had, he is flipping hilarious and was excited everyone time I had his class. Show up everyday, ask questions, read the book and you will do great.
One of the best teachers Ive had...He is easy to follow, is extremely funny, and relates things to life stories that make his lectures easy to pay attention to. The end of each class leaves you looking at life in a different way. Do the reading and take good notes in class and you will get a good grade. I have and will continue to recommend him
Very nice man, funny too. Would definitely recommend. Attendance is vital- there are three long essay questions based on his lectures. However, I would prefer instructor D. Christensen.
Best. Teacher. Ever. If you have a chance to do his Jamaica trip, DO IT. For his class, attendance is critical. His lecture topics are different from what's in the book, but you are tested on both. As long as you do well on the tests, the optional journal assignment isn't needed.
One of my fave professors ever. He definitely knows psychology, not just "textbook" talk, but he can relate it to your personal life. Funny. Great stories. Relaxed teaching style. Make sure you attend all lectures & study the study guide -- put in that much effort & you'll ace the exams.
Took general psych and lifespan psych with him. At the end of the last lecture of his lifespan psych class, the entire class was on the verge of bursting into tears because of the touching story he was telling. He knows psychology as a science, but he also knows psychology as humanity.
Tests are difficult, and some questions are from small details in the book. Must know material thoroughly from the book, most of which is not covered in class. Must have attended all lectures. Instructor is interesting and willing to give you help.
He is amazing! He explains things through stories which are sometimes hilarious and sometimes touching. He makes things as simple as he can. Attendance is important because the essay questions are based almost only on the lecture, while the rest is mostly book reading. His final is based off of only the previous tests which made it easy to study .
LOVE HIM!!! He is halarious when he gives examples during his lectures. Crawling on the floor like a rat and hiding in the corner. Standing on top of his desk. He always wears the same tan pin stripe pants :)He is always there to help. Very reassuring. He brings on new material slowly so you can comprehend. He makes it part of your life.
i was nerveous when i went int this class, because of stories my friends would tell me about the other Psych teachers, but i was thrown off guard when I realized how different he is, and his way of active teaching is so helpful.
Bob is a great guy but I did not enjoy his class. He is knowledgeable and fun and makes you laugh and would be great to shoot the breeze with over a beer but he rambles in class and repeats himself excessively and the flow of class doesn't feel very organized. Need to go though, because test questions come from class & textbook.
Bob repeats himself excessively and it drove me crazy. I would recommend taking this class online, because attendance is not mandatory because he goes over everything in the book in class. Or don't read the book. There are no graded assignments just exams and the final. But he gives you a study guide and everything on there is on the test.
This is an entertaining learning experience. Laughed probably everyday with the exception of the tests, which were a multi-choice/essay combo. Yes he does repeat material, but it ensures that you remember it and are prepared for if and when it shows up on the test.
I liked this class a lot and I thought he was a great instructor! His teaching style was awesome because he tried to make it so it sticks in our brains, which it did. There are only 4 exams that you have to do,and one optional assignment... Overall I would highly recommend him, he's very knowledgeable and fun to listen to. (:
He was really informative and got me really interested in everything we were talking about. This wasn't the easiest class but if you study for your tests you will get a good grade. Generally liked going to class and had a good time throughout the quarter.
This is a hybrid class or, to me, a strict online class. I really can't stand Bob's ramblings in class and a week later we're STILL discussing the syllabus. He repeats himself excessively and has no problem lecturing over his allotted time. This is a class easier to take at home than in his lecture hall.
Rambles on and on and on. His stories are so boring and have little to do with the book. It takes him 2.5 hours to make one point.
Although a nice professor with a fun personality, in my opinion teaching is not his strong point. His lectures were far from concise, and he often rambled on about things that were hardly related to the subject matter. The only way I knew what we were supposed to be learning was through the study guide he provided for each exam. Not recommended.
Bob is a great teacher. He's nice, funny and always gives examples. Sometimes his stories get off topic, but if you stay with him - they always end up making great examples for whatever he's going over. Always go to class, and read the book! If you're struggling, tell him! He puts together study groups that he's IN!
He is by far my favorite professor I have ever had. I wanted to go to his class. He is hilarious. Uses examples & experiences in his teaching - very helpful. Jamaica trip he puts on is life changing. He's a great professor.
Amazing instructor. His class changed my life.
Thompson is a great professor, he tells you exactly what is going to be on the tests, no surprises. DO the readings, come to his lectures and listen and you will do great in the class. I recommend this class to everyone, very interesting and his way of lecturing is very conversational and understandable. Loved this class.
Seriously the best teacher I have ever had! I went on the Jamaica trip with him and he is amazing! There is so much you can learn from this guy! YOu wont be sorry you took any of his classes!
He was great.
Bob was one of the teachers that I will never forget. He creates a nurturing environment that learning flourishes in. My last quarter I went to Jamaica with him in his study abroad class and it changed my life. I wish I had taken more of his classes but he is now a life long friend and I will always be going back to him for questions and support.
He talks and talks and talks. It is mind numbing, all he does is lecture, he caters to one type of student and uses a horrible textbook website. He's like Bill Walton but not funny or entertaining,
Lecture is interesting but difficult at the same time, the study guides he gives are really helpful. Homework is a bit too much,
Bob (the instructor) is a nice guy, but this class is a lot of work. More than typical online classes. He used launchpad with learningcurve instead of canvas for my class. The book was expensive; there were 4-8 quizzes a week, extra assignments, a ton of reading, and 4 exams. His study guides were helpful. Be prepared to study if you want an A.
ok, heres the deal. You think u are going to learn a lot in this class & really and enjoy it but guess what? You wont. Took this class online and your going along, following the modules which by the way aren't on canvas but some other site and its going well until u take the test and its not over anything that's in the prac test! hello 60% gb 4.0!
he was great
His tests are very hard. I read all of the given material and completed all of the assignments and reviews. Questions are slightly obscure considering what the text seems to emphasize. One would need a photographic memory to get an A in this class. However, a true photographic memory has never been proven to exist. Good luck!
I would highly recommend to NOT take this course. Find another teacher. He is nice but he has his students purchase launchpad. So all the assignments, quizzes and exams are on this website. You have 4-6 quizzes a week,as well as several assignments. I got a great grade but for a Psychology 100 level course the course load is ridiculous.
I took this class about 2 years ago as a hybrid course during a 17cr load and I loved it! There is a significant amount of online homework, but it's not impossible... we're in college people. His lectures certainly aided in my learning and retention of the material. He is very quick to respond to emails. Tests include essays, which he grades fairly
This is an online class so you DO NEED to read and be self motivated. Mr. Thompson was very responsive to questions and clarifications. I have not met him in person so considering this was all online, I would still take the class again. In person is a different set up from online after all.
Professor Thompson is a good teacher, he uses a different online platform that you need to purchase, but his class is pretty straight forward, do each assignment, take a quiz, take an exam and repeat 4 times. The exams are worth 50% or your grade and they are timed with only 45 sec for each response, so know your stuff before you start!
Unfortunately, my first experience with Lifespan Psychology will have been with Bob Thompson. He does not aim to help his students succeed, although he often says he is "open to criticism." At least 4 or 5 multiple choice questions on each exam made no sense, and require clarification. He also talks about himself and rambles way too much.
Do not take his class. He uses Lifespan Psychology for online classes. The tests are super hard and don't follow along with the textbook. Each question for the tests is 45 seconds.
Do not take this class. I had to buy launch pad for about $100, and he does not use textbook. The test is very heavy. You have to write two essay related to the lecture. However, during the lecture, he always told about his life which is not related to the chapter. Please find the other classes.
In order to study material in his class, I would recommend reading the launchpad textbook. Make sure to read carefully! Refer to his study guide if you want to pass. The multiple choice is pretty difficult. The essay portion is manageable if you attend his lectures and ask questions. He is accessible during office hours and will be there for you!
The program he is hellbent on using, Launchpad, is straight booty. It isn't worth the loose change in my car, let alone $100. Aside from all the random crashes, the work is excessively long without teaching me much. I have never spent so much time doing busy work for a piddly 5 point module. And there are dozens of these littered throughout.
Took this class online through Launchpad super cumbersome. Tons of ineffective busy work. No communication from him. Worst online class ever to s of work and way to many modules to learn all effectively and well as per textbook protocol. Would not take his online class. Launchpad is horrible. Dashboard much more organized.
He has the potential to be decent, but there is no interaction between him and students in his online class. He just piles work on us and grades the four exams, it's essentially a self taught class. But, since I never interacted with him, he could be nice, I wouldn't know. The exams weren't too bad, but the workload was often a lot each week.
I was a part of Bobs Jamaica Study Abroad program in 2004. While it has been 16(yes 16 years now!) I havent forgotten how impactful that trip was for my development as a young college student. The Jamaica study abroad course was one of the best experiences of my life. Assuming it is still similar, I would highly recommend it! Thanks Bob!
Professor Thompson is by far one of the best professors that I have ever had. I took several psychology classes with him before beginning my RN degree. His lectures were engaging. He has a dynamic way of teaching principals of the material in a way that makes it nearly impossible to forget. His passion is clear in his teaching! I can't praise enoug
Might be a good guy but would never know. You basically buy the program/book and complete 25 assignments a week. There are 4 exams throughout the quarter. Theyre about 65 multiple choice questions and 2-3 essay questions and you get about 75 minutes to complete the exam. Hell respond to a question if you have one but besides that youre alone.
Lots of reading, lots of online activities. Very interesting material. Not a whole lot of teacher communication, as everything is done outside of canvas on another website. Learned a ton.
He was very understanding
I feel like everyone saying Professor Thompson was below average, just did not apply themselves. I took psych 100 my freshman fall quarter, fully anticipating to be overwhelmed with an abundance of homework. However I LOVED this class. It can feel like a lot of hw so it is important to keep up, but I highly recommend this professor!
Nice professor. There weren't any lectures or course material in Canvas. Assignments, quizzes & exams were completed through a 3rd party program. Lots of modules to complete with major reading. Exams are multiple-choice and essays. The ratio of questions to the time allowed is challenging.
This class is a on your own teach yourself class. There will be zero interaction, zero lecture, and you will just read the content and take the quizzes and test through a third party "Launch Pad" that you will have to pay for because the instructor doesn't use the school provided Canvas program.
Only interacted with him once via email. Otherwise, he has little presence in the quarter. I think he sent out announcements 4-5 times the whole quarter. He relies on the book and the platform (not Canvas) for you to do the course. No lectures, and no recordings. It is truly an online, self-taught class.
Everything is done through LaunchPad and make sure you stay up with the readings/quizzes!! If you can do that and really take the time to understand those questions from the quizzes and chapter summaries then you'll do just fine. Bob makes the expectations really clear. If you do the study guides he provides then you will be good for his exams.
Racist professor. He grades all immigrant students harder. This Professor has so many complaints but I don't know why he can't change how he teaches and make it more inclusive. He talks for 2 hr in the classroom & has no bulletin points. The way he teaches & his grading don't match. He asks to explain on all the exams but not multiple choice etc.
His assessments are way more overwhelming for an online course. He uses a third platform instead of canvas, which is inefficient but expensive.
this is awful. the worst experience I've ever had. overwhelming textbook reading and assignments. exam can be anything from text good. he gives exam guide, but it's widely ranged and useless. the third party learning platform is inefficient and his arrangements is hilarious. I wonder how he get this high rating here.
Very HEAVY reading! Modules due twice a week & there are between 7-35 modules due on each of those days. Whole course is on a third party website which words quizzes & test questions in an odd way to prevent cheating BUT this makes the questions so confusing to understand! TAKE NOTES ON EVERYTHING, chapter readings, the modules, EVERYTHING! G'LUCK!
