Prof. Simmons is a great professor. You have to be there for every class, and note taking is sooooo important his tests are straight from his notes. Very helpful and very funny! AND OMG HE IS SOOOO HOT

Professor Simmons is a new teacher and somewhat hard when it comes to his grading policy. He demands a lot, but he will change your life.

Really great class, you learn a lot and he prepares you for when you transfer to a university. It seems hard because the tests are all short answer as opposed to multiple choice, but everyone is shocked at how much they know and most people got A's and B's on the exams. No homework. Prof Simmons is a fantastic instructor who while filling the class period with lecture is open to participation from students. The work is class is demanding so don't expect to cruise without a book or taking notes. On the plus side guys the information can be used to impress the ladies. It worked for me.

He's extremely helpful and REALLY knows what he's talking about. His lectures are really fun and informative, and his exams are straight from the notes. I found the tests pretty decent. Most people in my class did very well on the exams. Four exams, one project. Take this class! (And ladies! Yes, HE IS HOT!)

Fun, informative and easy class. We had 3 easy exams-you choose 10 essay questions you want to answer(take good notes=A),prof. Simmons gave study guides with same questions that appeared on exams. Easy and fun "my media" project. Prof. is VERY helpful, ALWAYS responds to emails promptly, FUNNY. Ladies-he's neat, well dressed and H-O-T.

Professor Simmons is great, one of the best instructors I've had. He is very professional, clear on his expectations and he makes the information interesting. He engages the class in his lectures. If you take complete notes and use the study guides there is no reason not to ace the tests and earn an A in this class.

Class was a lot harder than I expected. lots of information jammed pack into one day a week. But i have to say, i view film differently and learned a lot. uses 2 textbooks...1 midterm/1 final/1 paper/participation counts. im taking com with him in the fall. interesting guys and fun to talk to. definitely knows his stuff. and he's a hottie!

OHMYGOSH!! loved him! best lectures ever, clearer than the book (which is not that needed), and showed great movies! lots of info, but easy to understand. tests, just FOLLOW every part of the INSTRUCTIONS and back up answers. super helpful, made extra office hours when people requested. He's super passionate about the subject matter and he makes things easy to understand. We watched some great movies and he always had interesting input. Very smart and opinionated. Plus he's EXTREMELY hot. Take his class you won't regret it...especially if you're majoring in film.

Took comm1 in fall. Took him for Film1 2semesters ago. Great lecturer, clear on expectations. Grades a little hard on the tests. Study guide provided. 3 tests, 1 media project (extra credit linked to this project), participation and attendance counts. Show up to class and participate and you will get an A! Great guy with a heart of gold. Hottie!

Overall a good prof. He is tough though. You will need to attend and take copious notes. His tests are tougher than they 1st appear. Yes he gives you a study guide but he expects a well written and comprehensive paragraph for an answer--read not a short answer. He is also tough on grading. If you expected an A, he'll give you a B.

I have some advice: Write down the answers exactly how he explained them to you in the lectures. He is concise and clear, but takes off points for stupid errors on the test. Coach Simmons is a GREAT lecturer, very organized, patient, and nice to look at. 4 essay tests. Gives study guide. participation is a must. Ask questions. very approachable.

Simmons is a great teacher. He knows what he's talking about. The easiest way to get along with him is to not talk during class (he gets pissed), and to not argue to much against his points. I just transferred to a UC after 2.5 at SMC, and Prof. Simmons is by far the best teacher I have had!!! He has great lectures, make the subject interesting, and all the info he teaches is relevant! LOVED HIS CLASS!

Took him during winter. 3 easy tests if you pay attention to the lectures. Assigned reading but his tests' don't cover a lot of the material. Helpful study guides and one boring but easy project. Take him during one of the short semesters to get out of written exams.

LOVED prof. simmons' class. Take really good notes and the class is an easy A. The grade is heavily impacted by exams but they're all based on his lectures and little to nothing on the actual book. His class is always engaging and you'll learn a great deal. Also he's so helpful with any questions, whether from the class or career wise he's the best

Professor Simmons is AWESOME!! I took his class over the winter and it was not only interesting but fun as well. There are 3 exams and 1 group project which was super easy. i was not able to attend his class in the end due to a different program it was constructed by but by far a great teacher. taught me many things in only 3 classes. not taking comm this summer but will definatley take his class in the near future. :)

One of the best Professor I have ever met. He made me want to pursue a communications major. Just listen to his lectures (which are so clear and interesting) and you will get an A. I hate lectures but this guy has a way to make them less painful. TAKE HIS CLASS- it's amazing!

There is no denying Prof. Simmons is an expert in Media Studies; I recall every single question the students asked was returned with his wealth of knowledge and passion for the topic. It is also a pleasure to listen to his insightful lectures peppered with charismatic japes to keep student attention aroused. His expectations are high, but just.

Love this guy! He is such a good & hilarious teacher. He never answered one question with "I don't know." Makes the whole class laugh so hard. 3 exams, 1 presentation, 1 essay. Too bad he has such a high standard, hard to get a good grade but I managed to get a B & I'm an international student. In the end, he would be my first choice as a teacher.

Tough grader and crazy high expectation when it comes to projects, but he knows what he is talking about. You will learn a lot in his class; even if your major arn't filmjournalismmedia etc, those information are still very useful in real life. Listening to his lecture was a mind expanding experience every time. Funny guy.

Simmons is one of the best professors at SMC hands down! His lectures are clear, interesting, and hes absolutely HILARIOUS. I dont remember a boring moment in his class. A couple tough projects, however all are extremely valuable to our everyday lives! There isnt a question he couldnt answer, he is extremely intelligent and wise! Highly recommend!

AMAZING professor, crystal clear. Just BEWARE of the group presentations!! He is a harsh grader when it comes to the presentations! Tests are easy though, gotta STUDY to get an A, make sure to take notes! His tests can be a little tricky, not harsh when he grades the tests but VERY harsh when grading the presentations.

He is a tough grader when it comes to group project and essay but if you unsure of what to do just ask him and he will help. I would take him again:)

Literally the best film teacher i HAVE EVER HAD. I had knee surgery mid semester and still wanted to come to class every week, crutches and all. He is very passionate, knowledgeable, and very helpful. Even if you aren't a film major I would recommend taking the class.

Simmons is the coolest prof I've ever had. He's hilarious, kind, and really cares about his students. His lectures are interesting and easy to understand + he gives out study guides before every test so they're easy to pass. Just write notes every lecture and ask/answer questions and you'll pass with an A. I learned so much from him, he's amazing!

Simmons has an incredible skill for lecturing, you will be excited coming to class every week that is entertaining and informative. He is very friendly and a clear communicator. If you can answer all of the questions on the study guide, you will ace the class. For your paper and presentation, he is a rough grader but provides helpful feedback.

Awesome professor to have. Participation is is what strengthens your grade A LOT. He does give study guides for his exams( which is only the Midterm and Final). You then have a group project that is really fun and an essay. He is a tough grader, but really cares about the students. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR FILM1.

Prof Simmons is a breath of fresh air. His lectures are informative yet hilarious and you can tell he's a real pro in his field. There's one group project and paper that he grades toughly but other than that he gives study guides and great feedback. You have to work for an A but you really learn a looot from his class. Bobby is one of the best teachers I've ever had at Santa Monica College. Highly recommend his film and media classes. Great sense of humor and super intelligent, absolutely loved! Be ready to put in hard work but as long as you stay on task, you'all learn a lot!

A great class where the prof made all the content very interesting. The class is an extremely easy A if you are there for the lectures. Almost no work the whole semester, 2 tests and like 2 projects only. Really well-taught content by a prof who knows exactly what he's doing

Prof Simmons gives a great vibe in class. It feels like a safe environment but if you were to miss a class then you won't understand the exams. Only 5 assignments that make up your entire grade so pay attention to the lectures and take notes as lectures aren't posted. Make sure to study for exams to get a good grade.

I took FILM 2 with him. He is incredibly witty, funny, and intelligent. His taste in films is fantastic and it shows that he really cares about showing good cinema to his students. The course does not have a lot of homework but the mid-terms and finals can be time-consuming and heavy for some. He does not grade lightly but for good reasons.

Thought-provoking and life-changing. Changed my view on American cinema and introduced me to his perspective on film and art in general. His ideas and interpretations are foundational to understanding and creating cinema in the contemporary cultural climate.

His lectures feel prepared & very coherent! He's introduced incredible filmmakers whose work will stick with me forever. Truly an admirable person!
