Generally jolly feller. Pay attention and you might notice his sly, dry humour.
Great guy. Affable. Goes out of his way to help you. Dry humour is right!
funny guy but that doesnt make a difference to me when my test is 5 pages long...contrast that with a test from another section of the same class...their test was 1 page! he is helpful but if youve got a question during the lecture DO NOT hesistate to ask
A great guy, and he really attempts to make his class lighthearted, comical and interesting. His class is definitely not for the faint hearted (in math)but he really teaches u how to think critically. Do the damn homework, catch his humor and u'll be fine
I did not find him helpful with my questions, he often got mixed up and I had to help him out of his mistakes. Yes he is a funny guy, however, he will often go off topic with a story and come back to the example, skipping a major part.
All I can say is "who can understand this guy!?" If possible get different teacher, very extremly unclear.
this is one of the worst teachers ive had i wish i could drop it but i would lose my money i spent on this course
hard to understand, very unlcear, not funny and LONG tests that leave ALL of the class still writing after class is finished. A shout out to my tutor who acutally got me through this class
a great theacher i've ever had. make math more sense and fun. His test is a little bit long but if u do homework will be fine.
Maybe things have changed since last year--Bogdan was GREAT! MayB his first few tests were on the long side, but at least lets he lets u write a few extra min unlike Marsden who rushes u. Take calc at UVic, then complain!
This guy did what my highschool teachers couldnt. I now have a good foundation on which to build for future math courses. Thank you Bogdan. He explained math in a way that I could understand.
Funny and entertaining in class. He helps you pay attention and learn. I have learned some great techniques that will serve as strong foundations in future math courses. I highly recommend him and will take another math course with him again!
Great Teacher, actually cared about students, He changed our final marks because he thought the Final exam written given by the department and written another teacher was to difficult. He won my respect.
classes are fun and interesting.teachers who are able to make their subjects interesting for students will stick out to those students long after the class/semester is over. this is a situation where the latter applies.
His accent is awesome!! He's really nice and makes some randmom funny comments... he is good at explaining... and he actually MAKES SURE you understand the stuff... I enjoyed math this time :)
Excellent teacher, explaned things well, very smart and fairly funny. Kept this class interesting!
funny because he has a hard romanian accent but such a good teacher
Great guy!!!
Great professor with a knack for explaining complicated concepts in an understandable way. Good sense of humor, too.
idiot!
Hard to understand, changes subject and does not tell you why or how and leaves you feeling i still don't know the answer...get a tutor:( If possible get different teacher...or save your money don't waste here:(
Nice guy, although felt extremly pressured at the end of the summer class, with a trignometry test written the day before the final exam, maybe better consideration could of been made for the students. Otherwise a wonderful teacher.
Very funny, easy to understand, very helpful, his devotion is uplifting which is important in a math class
Seems like a nice and funny guy! Can't understand a thing he is saying though, his accent is really thick! Not my favorite math teacher, spent too much time trying to decipher what he was saying! He's kind of spicy in an silver fox way though!!
'All elephants are mammals, not all mammals are elephants' Amzing teacher, funny and personable, but can still push you. Bit of an accent, but he knows it. Easy tests, and easy marking. Great course website to go along.

best math teacher ever! tests are out of 100 so it's easy to mess up if you don't study, but it's your own fault. Always around during office hours. Easy to talk to! Will explain to you where you need improvement! expects his students to be in class, gets angry if you aren't. Great guy, Great teacher.
At first he seems like a hard a$$ Ukranian mathematician; however after your first test you'll realize how fair he is. Tests are fairly easy. Bogdan is a really nice and friendly guy. You can tell he likes math as he talks a bit about it's history jut for fun and it's really interesting. Take him.
best math prof around!
Great math teacher! Keeps class interesting with history tid-bits and humorous examples. Tests are extremly fair and he is always willing to help in his office...i would go and get physics help from him. Great guy, dont be fooled by the accent...he may sound like a Russian Drill Seargent but he's a softy. TAKE HIS CLASS PEOPLE, what else can i s
Loved math before his class. Took Math 100 with Stan Toporowski, got an A+ and really loved it. Bogdan ruined my interest in math. Bad teacher, likes failing his students.
Lectures were incomprehensible, confusing and sometimes even wrong; tests had many errors; student feedback was openly mocked and the course was very poorly organized. He may be tolerable for lower level courses but avoid him for anything else.
Avoid!
Will openly ridicule questions he thinks are obvious in class, and he doesn't like repeating ANYTHING. writes too fast, and it is really messy. Helpful in office hours but lectures are terrible. There are many better math teachers at Camosun.
Some students don't like him, but honestly they are just not listening hard enough or doing what he tells you to do! Extremely fair, challenges his students to learn the material thoroughly.
does care about how success everyone is, but language barrier makes things difficult. Doesn't always teach, rather yells and expects you to learn it on your own. The more he teaches, the more I enjoy him as a professor, but still very frustrating at time. not overly difficult examination wise.
Great teacher. His jokes (although terrible) make it easier to pay attention and relax. He does have an accent but hes not hard at all to understand. Very fair, and helpful. One of the best math teachers I've had for sure.
GOOD teacher. Enthusiastic and into math. Very helpful and funny. Definitely recomended.
Great instructor! Funny and helpful, accent is a little difficult at first but you'll get used to it. Definitely recommend him!
"All elephants are mammals, but not all mammals are elephants." Best math prof ever. In class there may be some difficulty understanding him, but in his office hours he is very helpful.
Good teacher. Hard to understand his ascent. Says some strange things. Tough overall class but he does what he can to make it painless.
'Murphy's Law!!' Very funny prof if you pay attention. Very helpful and genuinely concerned with your success. Accent is difficult to understand at first but is easily 'cracked'. Lots of homework and practice needed to succeed in this class
Being from Romania, Bogdan has a thick accent. He know's what he is doing and encourages lots of questions. He is always available to help and will try to help you get an A+!
Learn to deduce! Seriously, do your homework and you will do fine. Accent hard to understand at first. Good math jokes!
Bogdan is a great teacher. He always makes sure the class is following, you can never ask a silly question. he will reword or give you a different example until it's clear. He clearly explains his example questions. Very fair with homework load. Tests follow very clearly from assignments. Always available for math help. Has a good sense of humor :D
Good mathematician, good teacher also. Very helpful and clear. Occasionally tells interesting anecdotes about math history, and has a good sense of humor. Just do the homework, and go to class. Easy to take great notes to use in the future.
Extremely good teacher, very good mathematician. teachers told me that if i had a full course load i would fail this class, i had bio, physics chem and math with bogdan, I have never had fun and understoof math as much as i do now, amazing teacher and a helpful person, highly recommend this wise man.
Bogdan is one the best math profs at camosun. I worked 24 hours a week to support myself through school and took full time classes (Business). Bogdan is very helpful and clear and consistent. I got the only A+ in the class. Bogdan must be doing something right, for me to do that. Excellent work Bogdan !
Hilarious guy and very good mathematician. Genuinely wants you to do well. Goes fast but is thorough and will repeat and answer questions when necessary. Awesome teacher!
It's a lot of material to cover, so he moves pretty fast (I don't recommend skipping class if you can help it, even if you think you know what's being covered). But his notes are all very relevant and he doesn't waste any time. Highly recommended; if you show up to class you shouldn't have trouble getting a good mark.
Terrible. Long tests that end with the entire class unfinished. Messy and unorganized. Huge language barrier.
Awesome teacher! Accent is scary at first, but you get used to it. Funny jokes, he really helped me understand math and I actually ended up enjoying coming to his classes. :) his tests are straight forward and easy if you do the examples in the textbook and show up to class!
Bogdan's accent is a non-issue and his grammar is better than most english speakers. He emphatically encourages questions and attendance. Bogdan makes sure you understand the reasons behind the math so that you can think yourself through any situation rather than rely on memorized equations. Go to class every day and you'll get an A+
really great teacher, very helpful and patient!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good teacher
Great teacher. he's clear, organized and very helpful if you need him. He's funny as well :)
Bogdan teaches like we already know the content, he goes so fast when doing examples it's basically impossible to take notes. And is super intimidating when asking for help. He gets mad when you do questions wrong. It would be great for maybe a second time around but if you only plan on taking the course one time, avoid.
Great mathematician and a very good teacher. He goes very quickly and it can be abit confusing but he is always willing to help after class or in his office hours if you didn't understand. Lenient marker and makes jokes. Try not to miss any classes though; alot gets covered.
Great teacher, very funny and accommodating if you need extra help. I find that the ones that have complaints about him are the ones that don't do well in the class 'cos they don't try hard enough or miss too many lectures. NOT because of any language barrier or teaching technique. Math is a hard subject, you have to give your 110%. Greatteacher. KK
I would only take his class if you're good at math. I'll just leave it at that.
Great Professor. Prepares you well for the tests. He is able to cover all the material while also leaving enough time to do difficult questions from practice tests. He really wants everyone to do well and will help you as much as he can.
I never had a problem with Verjinski's class. Though the class was very jam packed with content he made it fun and made you laugh every class. His accent is easy to get past and hes very reasonable on assignments and tests (drops a question on test if a lot of people get it wrong). Wont pass if you dont show up tho, he goes over a lot in one class.
Great teacher loved Bogdan, really helpful and always wants his students to do well. Goes over a lot of content in one class tho so try not to skip. Overall if you do the homework and go to class you should have no trouble getting a good grade plus get a few laughs here and there
Took Math 137 with him, now taking M115. Great teacher, tries to make sure that you understand what he's teaching. Very descriptive in his explanation on the material (although that may just be me who feels that way). Math 137 was fairly easy with him; but you got to understand the material and practise.
-Amazing professor! Funny, clear, thorough. Will explain anything in detail, respects students, he shares fascinating bits of history and hilarious jokes. -Thick accent but still clear -He's not tough, the course is! Precal covers ALOT -Do ALL the assigned problems and study hard, the online stuff sucks but is an easy 10% so do it! + It helps!
Bogdan is a brilliant man just not a good teacher. When I asked what I did wrong on an equation, he told me to look at student's assignment who got 100% instead of explaining to me what I did wrong. Unless you are already strong in math, I wouldn't recommend taking his class.
I took his class last term. Bogdan is an excellent teacher. The class is very clear and easy to understand. Even though he gives some homework, they are very useful to practice in order to get great marks on the tests. I hope to take his class in the future.
Bogdan is good, is tests are exactly like the home work and he pulls questions for the textbook. He is old fashion though.... take that as you will. Math at Camosun is 10000x easier than Uvic (where I took my other math courses). If math isn't your strong suit, go here and get Bogdan.
Bogdan is a very smart man, and that means he sometimes makes jumps that students might not follow, but just ask! He's always enthusiastic about answering questions. Come to class, keep up with the homework and assignments, and you'll do just fine.
Do the homework (1-2 hrs a night), and you will do fine. Its math 100, its not easy if you don't have a background in trig/calculus. His explanations make things a hell of a lot easier and he ties in real world applications.
Don't let his tone or volume intimidate you, he's actually a bit awkward but really kind, so don't be hesitant to ask questions. It's math. Keep up with the homework and assignments, that will always apply. He grades things quickly, so ask about things you get wrong! You might get extra partial marks or at least a better grasp of the material.
It was hard for me to understand him in class, not because of his accent but rather the way he explains things. So, I studied ahead using youtube and then got the hang of it. He is a great teacher once you understand the way he teaches. Calculus is hard and you really do need to study about 1-2 hours everyday if your aiming for an A
Bogdan has a unique style of teaching that takes a little while to get used to but once you get a hang of it he is an awesome teacher. Bogdan is patient with questions and tries his best to make the lessons interesting. Long assignments but they prepare you for the tests which he is fair on. I enjoyed his class very much.
Bogdan is a great teacher! It just takes some time to get adjusted to his style. He moves fast through questions in class but is very happy to explain steps if students have questions. He is very supportive and encouraging when someone has a question. Just take the time to do the homework, he says math needs practice like an instrument!
I had mixed feelings about writing this review. I can tell Bogdan knows what he is doing, but he is not great at teaching it. When you ask for an explanation he just gives you an answer key with horrible explanations. I took an answer key to the math TA and they said "whoa that's bad". His tests are very long but mostly what is on the homework.
I LOVEED THIS PROFFESSOR COMUSON COLLEGE PROBABLY DID A GOOOD JOB HIRING HIM, HE EXPLAINS NICELY, ALSO AM SAD THAT HE IS NOT TEACHING MATH 115 THIS FALL I WISH HE COULD
Great guy , really cares about student's. Miss test will give opportunity to retake as long as you have been comig to class regularly. Everything revolves around your attendance . If he sees an effort he will help you all you need. Class can be boring and he is at times hard to understand. Can get excited and go through material rather quickly.
I took bogdans class after reading his reviews and seeing how great they are. I can confirm these are false and very inaccurate. I had to learn off professor Leonard online , because his lectures made no sense. If you have choice between this guy and other profs, do yourself a favor and choose the other prof. The tests are so long for a 50m block.
Great math prof, he really understands the content and explains it well, he makes you practice for homework though, which is good for ya.
Bogdan goes very fast during lectures, but by week 2 you'll be used to his teaching style and will be able to keep up. He does a lot of examples and is always happy to explain when someone doesn't get something and is available almost every day outside of class to help if needed. He makes little jokes that, if you're paying attention, are hilarious
Suck instructor I have never ever seen!! never take his class again, social distancing and we stay at home didn't have online class at all and only put up the notes for us to revise. I need the explanation. of work, not the boring notes, and the final exam is damn hard. NO chance at all. Really want to leave school just because of this teacher!!
Man-crush Monday, he wins every time. Bogdan makes asking questions very inviting. Anything you need to hear in a different way he can give you seven different perspectives on. A master at his craft.
Very intelligent, no doubt about it. He is funny and lectures well. On his good days he made me enjoy math. However, he has off days where he questions the intelligence and dedication of students. In an upgrade math this was a huge demotivator. His "class notes" content posted online is laughably hard to understand. Overall, he is mediocre at best
He is a good prof to go with because whatever he teaches in class is what he usually gives in tests. If you will be attentive in class you can score well. He sometimes says very difficult to everything, but I think that pushed me to be more attentive in class.
very important to show up to class he takes his time to explain the topic and makes sure you understand it before moving on be aware that all of your grades is dependent on your tests 60% while the final is 40% no homework at all so you have to practice the material and do revision questions he is also hilarious and enjoys a responsive class
Never again. Very condescending if you struggle to grasp concepts quickly; this is awful for students in a math course for upgrading. His online materials are poor. ESL students struggled to understand him. Looks over students' shoulders during tests and exams. Better to take 072 and 073 online for equal credit, or take 077 with someone else.
Bogdan is the worst teacher I've ever had. If you ask questions, you can expect a rude, unhelpful response. Asking questions via email is useless as he'll direct you to the course outline (like I haven't already checked!) Never take a class from this "teacher" if you can help it. He is condescending and loves to humiliate his class as well.
Bogdan made this class a lot harder than it needed to be. There was three tests that are worth about 55% of your grade, which is pretty standard for any math test. However, there was only 50 minutes to write it and the test was clearly designed to be written for at least double that. His D2L was also a complete mess, avoid
Avoid. Rambles off topic and is rude to students. Often makes copying or calculation errors, but is so fundamentally disconnected that when students attempt to inform him of the error, he interrupts them and goes off on another tangent. This is how he responds to questions as well. Very low class attendance, better off studying by yourself. Senile.
Please do yourself a favour and avoid a class with Bogdan. He is rude and condescending consistently. Looked over my shoulder during a test and whispered "not enough studying." I felt so bad for ESL students who couldn't understand him half the time. His D2L is a mess. He has been teaching for too long and he clearly doesn't enjoy it anymore.
bad D2L, confusing & sparse content handouts, unknown file names, strange typographical formatting, questions that require a lot of calculations, short exam time. He was nice, but definitely needs to improve.
I'm a fourth year student and Bogan is the worst professor I have come across during my time at Camosun. He clearly does not care about teaching anymore. He only does examples of the questions during class time with no emphasis on explaining the root of the logic. His D2L isn't organized at all. He fosters an extremely negative classroom experience
He makes you feel bad for not understanding, and his classroom attitude makes asking questions really hard, as he basically makes fun of you in front of the class for not understanding. This is an upgrading class; his attitude will deter many students from math/school! PLEASE take Math 072 instead!
Avoid. He jumps into rapid-fire examples without explaining or introducing concepts, questions are met with sarcasm and belittling, and his D2L is a nightmare. Expect to go home and re-teach yourself everything along with studying for weekly tests. Bogdan should not be teaching upgrading courses. I leave extremely discouraged/frustrated every day.
Avoid this class. If you have to take it don't bother showing up to class because from how he teaches you might as well just teach yourself. He tells you to do an equation not even 5 seconds later he will rapid fire and answer 2 other Q while telling you that you should know this already instead of actually teaching you how to do it AVOID HIM!
Goes through material very fast, usually a chapter a day. Mostly does examples without explaining the reasoning behind them. Very test heavy, grading is based almost entirely off of them.
Bogdan is a very singular man. The way he talks about math, in a broad sense, is very inspiring, and sometimes quite confusing. He is more of a comedian than a lecturer, like what I would imagine a comedian would have been like during the 50s in the Soviet Union or something. His unique perspective and love of math is infectious nonetheless.
