Boring!!! Bizarre, not very helpful, group projects, difficult tests

Don't take her. Way too much work! If you study really hard you will pass.
very hard tests, old and strange, but willing to help you out.
strange lady-group projects are awful and pointless
Easy A. She makes u give presentations but she is good anyway.
crazy lady with very poor hygiene. i would suggest sitting in the back.
I'm at a complete loss here. All negative comments posted above are completelty accurate. Her apperance suggests a down and out street person and her teaches suggests a rageing derilect. The work load is huge, and her kids behave horribly. DO NOT TAKE!
Just do not take her. Not only is she boring, but when she gives you notes, she is impossible to follow. Projects are annoying and elementary. Her appearance, and smell, is enough to tell you to turn around and run from this class.
She looks awful but she is nice. She will try to help you if you ask. Class is boring and seemingly pointless just making yourself aware of what you already know. Tests are easy if you paid attention in class.
Her class if fairly easy and she is very helpful. She gives notes and we watch movies. We do have two major projects due around the same time. One is a presentation.

easy class, but alot of work very weird women

Crazy projects. Had me teach the class for two days becasue I actually -knew- somthing. Totaly unclear about what she wants. Class -should- be really cool but turns out to be a pain while you try to decipher what she wants. Easy grader on projects though
Easy A, but you learn nothing. A waste of time and tuition.
Very boring, lectures for hours, we watch old movies in class.
i would never take her again..i learned absolutely nothing.she is very unorganized..her office is a mess, there are papers and projects everywhere..the projects and presentation were a pain..the students taught the class more than she did
I really like her. I found class to be very interesting. I love the material. I even enjoyed doing the reading, as did other people in my class. Those comments about her hygiene are disgustingly shallow and indicative of the bad attitudes of the students.
OK so-2 tests w/an ENORMOUS amount of info & 2 presentations thats it! class & lecture not organized, jumps all around, & pretty boring. but if you read the crap & take notes, your good to go, presentations hard to do bad on(def plays favorites)
SHE IS COOL
She has a B.O. problem. =/ Other than that her class is EXTRA boring. Assigns oral presentations/projects. Her tests are hard and worth a lot of points. However, she does give extra credit. I wouldn't take her again though.
She is very nice and the class is pretty easy. The study guides she give you are exactly whats on the test. You take notes, can be boring but also interesting
Her tests were hard, but you can pull up your grade in the presentations and extra credit. She is nice, but very boring. She likes to play a lot of videos in class so it was nice to get a break now and then from the lectures. She wasn't all that bad. Better if you had a stuffy nose & couldn't smell!
It's an interesting class, if you like to learn about local culture. Other students in my class said she is hard to take notes from, but I didn't think so, maybe that's because I am a senior and have had worse teachers. She is really down to earth and knows a lot about her field.
If you could help it, dont take her. BOnita is an old women wiht extreme body odor. IF you take her, get on her good side!! Sucking up is key! She is EXTREMELY boring. Class is FULL lecture and OLD movies. I did ok in the class, but Never AGAIN!
pretty easy, she's a little crazy though, if you like to doing group projects/skits in class, this is the class for you
never went to class, did bad on both tests but if she enjoys your presentations you will get an A
Lots of videos, incomprehensible charts on the board. She writes down keywords on the board that you have to define as she mutters. The tests are harder than hell, all essay. I def dont recommend taking her unless you love learning useless info and reciting it on tests. Presentations werent bad tho. Tough grader on them however.
easy, interesting, class. Do the work your supposed to, take notes on everything and you'll be fine.
nice person and the tests are not bad if you answer the study guide questions. Also answer the articles they are on tests. its not that bad as a course but you do have to study
Geez, you'd think someone would spell her name right by now. Professor Witthoft is a fair teacher. However, she did little to increase my low interest in Anthropology, in fact I find it even more boring. You use all the textbooks so buy them. There is no homework, just a skit, presentation of an article, 2 exams, and an optional final. There are lots of oppurtunities for extra credit and you will not fail if you have any semblance of intelligence.
You'd have to be an idiot to do poorly in this class. She is a very nice lady! You go to college, of course it's going to be work. Make sure you answer the questions in study guide and read articles. Take notes. Anything you don't know, ask. She will help you!! Tests are all essay but very easy as long as you follow above directions:)
shes not a bad teacher, shes not a great teacher. If you complete the review packets she gives out, you are going to get a good grade on the test, if you do the packets plus study the notes she gives during her lectures, its almost a garunteed A. The finals are optional.
Dr. Freeman was not always clear in her lectures and storytelling that you were tested on but she was very helpful if you asked for her help. She is older and I felt like students didn't give her the respect she deserved. I hope students will treat her with more respect after reading this.
I failed this class, but believe it was half my fault. However, her tests are very difficult. Taking Notes is essential. If you work hard and ask for help you will do well.
easy teachervery very boringbut tests were simplejust study what she tells you and you will ace teh tests also read the assigned books because a lot of the test is on that and if you dont read it that is how you get screwed
she is a very sweet and very old lady, she's very bright and knows her stuff. Class is boring, but if you don't take good notes then you won't do well on the tests.
Class was very boring for me b/c i did not find the material too interesting. I thought she did a good job with the material. The skits were fun to watch. Test are easy if you study, you can't BS your way thru them b/c they are all essay. She gives you study guides with everything that is on the test though. Study= easy A
Nice lady, but everytime she got up infront of the class I thought she was going to die. She's real old and REAKS like body odor. She didnt show up to class the other day though, I hope she is still alive...BYAWWWWWWW
Older teacher, tells stories alot, but gives study guides! pay attention in class and take notes. tests are essay 50% class material and 50% text reading. Textbooks are EASY to read. The menchu novel was boring, but an easy read. The class skit was fun and an easy 150 points, optional final! take her class. boring at first, but def hang in there.
Dr. Whitthoff is a wonderful teacher. Seriously, if you can't pass this class you need to go back and complete the 8th grade. The woman has a wealth of knowledge and a very sincere demeanor. Take her. She's really interesting and has a great sense of humor.
Take good notes! they are key to doing well in her class! as long as you study and pay attention in class, you will do well. if you're on her good side she is the sweetest woman in the world! tests were all fill in blanks/essay, but again- study and you'll do fine.
One of the hardest classes. All she does is stand in front of the class and lecture about old tribes and cultures. 2 exams and an optional final. The exams are 60 questions all short answer and the final is an essay. too much information to remember all at once. You have to do a skit in front of the class and act out a certain culture group too
horrible class. she stands in front of the class and lectures about stuff that sounds made up. don't take this class.
Horrible class. Didn't teach at all. Played movies and had students teach the class with last minute assignments not included in the syllabus.
Difficult to follow during lecture, but just write down what she says anyway. Her tests are almost exactly from the study guides. Do the work, you'll be fine
Most boring class ever. Hated it.
She is horrible. Creepiest person ive ever seen, horrible lectures, Way two into the text books! If you dont read its hard to pass which is what im dealing with now. The skit is nice cause its a relatively easy 150 points. You watch lots of horrible movies. Tests are almost all book related.
AWFUL. Never know what to take notes on because shes all over the place with topics. No class interaction. Boring. Dont ask for help, she gets offended or assumes youve been skipping class. Tests are impossible because you dont know what to study, and theres no textbook to go off of, just tons of side readings that she tests on but never goes over.
Her teaching style is more like a graduate course, not tightly structured, and she strongly encouraged students learning from each other through presentations and participation. She KNOWS Anthropology and shares her knowledge of it from life experience and from excellence. I liked her open style and non judgement.
She is the most strange woman ever. She talks about her native american friends all the time. The tests are RIDICULOUS. All short answers taken from class lectures which consist of her rambling and rambling.
Avoid Witthoft at all costs. I am an "A" student and I am pretty sure I will fail this class. Her exams are impossible (50 short answer questions, very detailed), I got a 41% on the first one and I thought I did good. Just avoid her and this department as a whole if at all possible! :(
This woman is AMAZINGLY smart. She's traveled the world and knows what she's talking about. She lectures A LOT. Take good notes and do readings and you should be fine. She says she doesn't care about attendance, but the syllabus says otherwise. It's boring, but you can just mess around on your phone. Test are difficult. Final was optional.
Bonita is an old little woman who is so sweet, but this class was useless. Her lectures were hard to follow and the tests were taken directly from the lectures. I got Ds on both tests but still managed to get a B+. I wouldnt recommend taking this class.
DROP CLASS NOW. horrible horrible class. Can't even follow what is being taught. there is absolutely no structure to this class. DO.NOT.TAKE.
This class was a level one hundred class, and it was beyond difficult. You have to do all of the readings, and if you follow her exact study guide and literally study everything you will do well. Beware there is a group skit you have to perform and that is a significant portion of your grade.
Dr. Whittoft is the best. Sure, she can be kind of hard to understand sometimes and her lectures are kind of confusing. But it's basically impossible to get anything lower than a B in any of her classes, with or without studying. Plus, she has experience and really knows what she is talking about. I highly recommend her.
Dr. Witthoft is very intelligent woman. The beginning of class consisted completely of lectures, the middle of videos, and the end group discussions. The assignments can be confusing, but she's approachable and clarifies any questions you have. Attend class regularly, take good notes, do assignments in a timely matter, and you should be fine :-).
She is honestly the worse professor I have had here besides Dr. Green but that is a another story in itself. I learned from the book we had to Read about Rigoberta Menchu that was the only interesting part about the class. You can hardly hear anything she says and nobody seemed to know what she was referring to as soon as she started talking.
I came into the class really looking forward to the subject matter. However, this prof. has absolutely no rhyme or reason to her assignments or grading. We would either sit and watch old movies or listen to her babble on incoherently. She seems like a nice women but she really has no idea how to teach. Seemed like she just randomly assigned grades.
Dr. Witthoft is probably the nicest and most interesting person to talk to, but she should not be teaching. She just sits in a chair explaining stories. You're expected to write everything she says to pass. Be prepared to take lots of notes because nothing is online for reference! Overall: avoid this class *Not for visual learners, more auditory.
Professor Wittoft's glory days are far behind her. She lectures on and on and is hardly audible because she stares at the ground and has a very low speaking voice. The content is taken straight out of the book and she doesn't present it well in the lecture notes that are all taken by hand. Difficult class and difficult teacher.
She's the cutest, sweetest old lady, but like someone else said, her glory days are behind her. Still, it's so interesting to listen to her tell her stories. She has a lot to offer her students, they just have to be willing to accept an older style of teaching. I got A's on everything because she could tell I was trying and cared about the class.
She is a very sweet, intelligent lady. However, that class was absolutely painful to sit through. If you weren't watching a movie, you listened to her lecture for the whole hour and 15 minutes. She wasn't very clear on assignments. She posts NOTHING online. Very difficult to sit through and do well.
Most of her classes are either watching movies or listening to stories she tells. Sometimes it can get a little boring but take some notes and read and you will do great!! She gives out extra credit every class almost and will let you make corrections to the exam. Interesting class and she's super nice!! She definitely loves what she teaches!
Hard to understand and very quiet so sit toward front of classroom. Lectures are pointless to tests. Her tests are very difficult and are more in depth then what we learn in class. Sweet lady though. ALthough tests are hard easy to boost grade with all the extra credit she gives out.
Completely awful doesn't actually teach. Don't know why I even show up other then its mandatory I learn everything from reading basically.
If you actually read the books she assigns and take notes in class you will do just fine. Its not a hard class and the tests arent hard either if you pay minimum attention. She just talks quiet and is pretty boring, but there are a lot of videos and extra credit.
She was honestly the sweetest professor I have ever had. She cares deeply about her students. There is an article presentation and a group project. She is very knowledgeable and she has had many experiences which relates to the Anthropology class. If I could take her again, I definitely would! Great Professor!
The class itself is just a long lecture with no real class interaction. There is an article presentation and a group project that is worth a ton of points. There's a good amount of readings and books to look from , but the material isn't that hard to understand. I wouldn't advise taking her but if you end up having to its not that bad.
I don't know why there is so much hate for this woman. If you read what you're supposed to read in the 3 books and take great notes in the way shes lecturing it, you'll be fine. The tests are easy and are 50-50, half reading, half classroom material. You can't take notes, buy a smartpen like i did. Go to her office hours and stop complaining.
The class is tough to sit through especially if, like me, you have no interest in the subject. She has a lot of knowledge to offer and you have to go to class and pay attention in order to do well on tests. Easy grader on presentations and test answers. Gives a TON of extra credit opportunities, so take advantage because tests are difficult.
She seems very intelligent, but lectures are painful, very very painful to sit through. She is very elderly and if you don't sit through an hour straight of just her talking, you watch a 40 year film.
She's a nice person, but she's boring. There's too much content to study well for the exams, and when I went to her office hours, she was the least helpful. She has one script for the class, and she repeats herself a lot, so not a lot of creativity. But as long as you're in class and actually READ all the stuff she assigns, the tests are easy.
She is very hard to understand sometimes. She lectures to the point you want to sleep and watch a lot of pointless videos. And you are never quite sure what to expect on tests or quizzes. I didn't do well on her two tests but did do well on the 3 projects during class and I got a B. Just make sure you goto class and take notes and you will be okay.
Bonita is one of the most intelligent professors, but she should have retired years ago. She is much too old for the job, and doesn't even know how to email. She's an incredibly tough grader, and favors you if you seem interested and pay attention in class. So make sure to do so, it will be worth it come exam time, which is 50 open ended questions.
Show up to class. Her lectures are 75% of what the test is on. Doesn't respond to email and will not post grades until end of the year. Difficult to understand and pay attention to some times but overall sweet and brilliant woman. Give her a chance.
So it's the first week of fall semester and I can already tell that's this is gonna be a tough course. Bonita loves to talk :( I can never follow what she saying. I'm thinking about dropping this course honestly.. And epically after reading all of these other comments!!!!!
Everyone on this website is wrong. She is absolutely wonderful. And an inspiration. Her stories are fascinating. I recommend to take the notes on whatever she says and do the extra credit. You will get an A. Just help her with technology and passing out papers.
Her class is awesome! I had it Spring 2014, you go to class and watch movies or you read a short chapter and do a paper on it thats like a 5 minute speech and as long as you know somewhat of it you get a good grade. Shes a sweet heart. The class has like 3 papers that arent bad and shes a pretty easy grader. No reason you shouldnt get at least a B
