Teaching skills are non-existent. She's out of touch with the whole world. Screams lecture at you in an attempt to be profound(does not work). Worst political science course i have ever taken.

Nice lady. She is a difficult grader. You have to to what she wants, to the "T" or you will not do well, in her class.
very hard to learn anything in that class...if u dont have exactly what she wants on ur essay she wont give any feed back just a bit nope accress the paper and u get a zero..i dropped the class after 2 weeks cuz i couldnt take it anymore!!
Terrible teacher.I Wrote a good paper I showed it to another Professor and he said he didnt understand how I did not get at least a B. She gave me a D. She would not budge on the grade either. Terrible Teacher
Awful teacher. Shes no help, you get nothing out of her class, and if y ou disagree with her, then forget it. Shes always right, and your always wrong. Dont take her if you want to continue having sanity. She's a horrible teacher, enough said.

THE WORST. Forget the chairman- he did nothing despite constant complaining- run the other way!
dropped class first week. thought itd be easier online with her but was just as hard. got a zero on first quiz. i may be that dumb but she was a bad teacher
Awful. Worst class of the semester. If you dont agree with her opinions, your grade WILL suffer.
She may be a nice lady to talk to outside of school and can be very funny sometimes but that doesn't mean she is a good teacher. She is very unorganized even though she has her notes written out before she even starts class. Her lectures ramble on to things that do not make sense and most of it is never even on her extremely difficult tests.
I had her for two class. I found it hard, but you talk to her and show effort she'll pass you. she had opinions but she allowed us to have our own. And Respected them. I discover in any class if you pay attention, take notes, and do the work you'll do well.

WORST TEACHER u could possibly have. She shouldn't even be teaching cause she as no clue she is very unorganized and her test are so hard i don't even think she could pass one beacuse i really think she has no idea what she is even talking about..stay way from her teaching and u'll be successful.
She was the absolute worst. She made very little sense and had the stupidest assignments. I think that everyone that has taken her hated watching that Northern Exposure show and then having to write a one page essay on some obscure topic relating to that show. I dropped that class and now I'm taking Lord's sociology class. He is 50 times cooler and easy....take him!
Horiible, no clue what goes on in her class. Everything she says is exactly what is written down on her notes. She likes to talk about how well off she is.
this woman is outrageous. Her tests are imcomprehensible, as are her "lectures". She gives stupid assignments but if you do them and make it look like you actually put more than 15 minutes into it, she will probably give you a good grade. Its just her tests that are hard b/c she cant teach.

Do not get into this class. She is horrible. She gives you no credit for your opinions. If your opinion is not hers she will give you no points on the test. Her tests are way to hard and I studied for hours.

ok... her syllabus is 25 pages!. If you participate in class make sure you say the exact answer she wants, otherwise she will totally disagree and make you look like a fool. ALso...her tests are literally impossible..i agree with all the other ratings..i dont think there was ever a person who got a 100 on one of her tests.
First of all, how can anyone expect to learn from soneone who has a lisp? i have no idea where she gets the material for the tests seeing as how they have nothing to do with her biased lectures, OR the book. When you ask her a question, just you and her, she never looks you straight in the eyes, she looks above you. she thinks shes great also.
Hard class. Read each chapter 3 times. She is a little confusing but if you work and study hard you might just get your paper recommender for a school award. Look within before you judge her. Good students will receive good grades in this class.
Needs to get a new style of writing notes on the board since you cant erase & fill in things you missed out without messing up your page & you will have notes scrambled all over. For the tests focus on the essays since if you say 5-7 members for a group & it was only supposed to be 5 say goodbye to 5+ points.
She is the worst teacher. shes always all over the bored and at times she forgets what she was talking about.if you got somthing wrong she would just write NOPE accross it and tell you to google it.
WORST teacher at HVCC! she grades very harshly, is unclear and expects students 2 read 3-4 very long chapters AT LEAST 3 times for a test! its rediculous! and if you ask for help, she'll just tell you to make sure you read 3 times!!! DO NOT take her if you can help it!

Terrible. Talks the whole time and doesn't make sense for one out of the 50 class minutes. Tests are impossible, questions don't make sense. If you don't read the book you'll never pass the class. It was so terrible I ended up withdrawing from the class along with several other people.
If you can focus and stay attentive in this class that you should considering joining the x-men because you have super powers.
Do not take this class. You will most likely fail or drop. She is a nice lady and pretty hysterical but she makes no sense and her notes are all scrambled. You'll need to re read each chapter over and over if you want to pass. Good luck.
her lectures do not in any way correspond to the text and sometimes to the course itself. her tests are very wordy and are based off of very small detail hidden in the text making it very difficult. very harsh on gradin papers. do not feel bad for dropping this class, youre doing yourself a favor
By far the worst teacher i ever had. Not to say she's not a nice person, but her teaching is just down right awful! she repeats her notes are gibberish with everything ending in and equal sign, yet she wont write anything else after it. And the terms she puts on her study guides aren't even on the tests, not that the questions make sense anyways!
Nonstop,unorganized, repetitive notes every single class. 50 m/c & 2 essays every exam. Has low standards for papers which makes writing easy. You won't pass without reading every chapter of the book thoroughly. She's very dull, not bright at all, can be stereotypical, and is very harsh but with a smile. Hate it when she says "When we talk about.."
I never took her class but my advisor actually advised me not to take her class. they told me to come on here to look at both teachers who are giving POLS 110 online and I would understand what teacher I should take. So glad that this site is here!
She is a very nice lady, and can be funny, but teaching is not her thing. She was unorganized, started our notes from the middle of the textbook on day 1, and taught the same lesson for days in a row. I dropped her class, and would not recommend her unless you are able to learn on your own.
She introduced herself and said she has been at hvcc since 1992. This made me think she would be a very good professor. Boy, was i wrong.. Notes are so unorganized and actually don't make sense. I dropped after the first class and would not recommend her to anyone.
Handed in my 10 page final paper 4 weeks early. Being a freshman, I had no idea how to cite my sources properly. She never taught us how She gave me a C (a 75%) I said nothing and revised the paper to receive a better mark (should have been an A paper)I handed it back and she returned it with 3 added points, keeping me one point from a B, smiling.
Her syllabus is very specific.I liked the fact that she posts exam reviews on Blackboard and takes students to the library for help with doing research. She's generally willing to work with students if we talk to her.
I believe Mrs.Sessing-Matcha has a strog passion for Sociology. She proves this by giving very detailed lectures and very vivid notes. She also has devoted several classes to inform students of the sources available for research papers, which helpes tremendously for students who have not attended school for an extended period of time.

Really good professor! It is a fast class, but taking notes is good. I had a few difficulties that were quickly solved with swinging by office hours. She is very helpful!
Wow, This professor was awesome today. She posted a review for us in Blackboard and today, she even reviewed the actual exam for us! I didn't know if I would like Sociology but after today, I am glad that she is our professor.
I have read some of the comments here and I have to disagree with the malcontents. This professor responds to e-mails generally within 24 hours or less. Her lectures on-line are well organized plus, she gives us two chances to complete each graded weekly assignments.
I just submitted my topic for my research paper and Mrs. Sessing-Matcha really liked my topic. She is so helpful. She usually responds to her e-mails too! I like the way she does her lectures on-line too.
We just had our first exam. I thought it was going to be hard because she gives a lot of notes but she also gives us study guides on Blackboard and does a review in class as well. If you study what she gives you, its not that hard of a class and she is so approachable.
This professor is excellent and i like her teaching style. I learned alot in her class and couldn't ask for a better professor. I must say i was a bit shook from her looking so firm, but she is actually very nice and funny, i learned alot in her class. The only way you can fail is not to study, she's awesome.
classes are booring, repetitive, unorganized and she just basically yells facts at you. the tests are pretty reduculous. she says you should read the chapter 3 times but who is gonna do that? if you have a choice, take another professor.
Prof is demanding of students as she should be. Available to students and answers all questions. She gives detailed notes which dovetail with the text.I took this class online and I was able to get thru thanks to her detailed lectures.Very helpful discussing my ideas for a term paper. Serious about learning, taker her class. Not for slackers
I've taken two of Professor Sessing-Matcha's courses. They are challenging but are worth it; they will definitely show you new perspectives. She is very helpful and flexible with scheduling, especially if (like I did) you have many more things to do than time to do them in. She is very open and accepting of diverse backgrounds and histories.
Honestly, the most boring lectures I have ever sat through. She is a very nice lady, always available for office hours, and really does try to help the students if she can. The problem is she might be insane. Her lecture consists entirely of random statistics, there is no discussion whatsoever. Very fair grader though.

I am in her class Spring 2013 She is so nice and helpful. She even allows crib sheets for exams. They can be only 1 page plus she does oral in class reviews too. If you want to know things, take a class from her. She's great!
She is a wonderful professor. Her class was well organized. Plus she is willing to provide help or guidance when needed. I did not think political science would be that interesting even though I wanted to8646 know about politics. She made it interesting!
I am getting ready to take my Sociology final from Professor Sessing- Matcha. She did an in class oral review plus we had posted study guides on Blackboard and in class reviews. I really learned alot about people and she gave real life examples. I loved the class!
I honestly couldnt follow anything from her lectures. They are poorly spoken and unorganized. Very nice lady but most definitely a below average professor. If you had th option to switch professors, do it. Tests are more than challenging and she expects you to read your text book word for word.I was not pleased with this professor at all.
I had class twice a week, one day was one hour the other day was 2 hours. She hardly ever kept us for more than 30 minutes each day. She hardly lectured. I learned nothing from her, thank god for the textbook otherwise I would not have passed.
Currently taking a class with Prof. Sessing-Matcha. Nice lady but her notes are extremely unorganized and she doesn't really explain them. I have an A as of now, she's an easy grader and doesn't expect much. Told a student to constantly read the textbook over until he understands. Kind of had an attitude with me over email. Overall easy professor.
Nice, but terrible at discussion as well as lecturing. She does not give the class an opportunity to exchange ideas or really ask questions. If you do ask a question, she blames you for losing her train of thought. A suggestion for her would be to use PowerPoints instead of writing 30mins of notes on the chalk board for each of her five classes.

This professor literally reads straight from the text book with no additional knowledge added to the lecture. Worst professor I've ever had class with. When she speaks she is hardly audible. She begins lecturing without any introduction, just starts rambling. You don't even need to attend class. No purpose.
I am taking her now for Sociology and she isn't too bad. If you don't want to write a 10 page research essay or do an hour of service learning each week, then i suggest to not take her. But other than that she doesn't expect too much.
Don't get me wrong, she's a nice person but her teaching methods are downright awful. Her lectures don't always go in par with the book and most of the questions on her tests are confusing and from the book. Her class is boring, only perk is that she lets us out of class early.

Honestly, one of the worst teachers I've ever had. Her lecturesnotes are awful and she does not explain anything at all. Class goes for maybe 25 minutes then she will say "we have a lot to cover next class" She assigned a research paper but fails to tell you anything about it (what to do, citing, due date, etc.) I could go on and on about her
Nice lady, but classes were horrible. We were hardly ever kept for more than 30 minutes (if that), and service learning is extremely limiting because of the insurance policy of the school. The one good thing I have to say is that she gives semi-weekly projects that help boost your grade toward the end.

Let me just start off by saying this woman should of never been hired to teach. She is HORRIBLE at her job. She reads from the text book to the class in a mono tone voice and doesn't know the content at all because when students ask her questions she refuses to answer them. She puts her students down in class. Do not take any class with this lady!!

Wow I have never met such a disrespectful teacher When she is asked a question in class by a student she responds to the question by saying research it and find a answer or look it up in the textbook because I do not have time to answer it while I am teaching She teaches the class by reading notes fast from a website or notes she wrote
She's a nice lady but I've always struggled with gen education type courses. She does give you an option when it comes to the research essay, it's a 8-10 page research paper v. 15-20 hour service learning with a 4-5 page paper about what you learned and liked about service learning. She is very friendly also.
Professor Sessing-Matcha is okay. Tough grading for essays but overall you'll like your grades once you study and do well in each assignment. She is not always clear in communication. You need to read your text. Don't always expect the best feedback because sometimes it can be interpreted as "mean."
Please, I repeated not, PLEASE do not take her class for sociology. This class is suppose to be fairly easy,neutral, but is 10xs harder than what it is because she does not know how to teach the material in a orderly fashion. She jumps around everywhere and it is just all confusing. And if no textbook you fail That teaches you more than her alone
