I hate buisiness and this was one of my favorite classes. He genuinely cares about students. Definitly a class you won't be bored in. I really recommend this class!
Great teacher.Knows his stuff and really wants to help. Good general class. I really liked his teaching style. Final is a little hard, but just study and you'll do fine.

Bonnie is an awesome teacher. Even if you aren't interested in Business you will enjoy his class. The quizzes are pretty easy, as long as you read the chapter. He's the type of teacher that you will go to class just to listen to his lectures.
Professor Chavez really stretched my abilities and expectations as a student. He teaches the basic fundamentals that are required in the everyday business arena. Be ready to put a lot into this class. He is a no nonsense kind-of-a- teacher.

doon like him
awesome teacher, he's tough and expects the best from his students. he is very fair and knowledgable
tough teacher, the kids in his classes that got c's were getting a's in the other bus ad teachers class. Very tough but knows his stuff. If you want a pusher.. go for him
hard teacher, talks a lot about himself and his past life in business. So if you don't like to listen to life stories don't take his class!
Chavez is a great speaker. However, don't expect to get an A in his class just by going to lectures and reading. It helps a lot to go to the tutors or talk to him, especially regarding chapter exercises.
HE IS A HORRIBLE TEACHER, ONLY WANTS TEXTBOOK ANSWERS, DOES NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT REAL LIFE EXPERICENCE, VERY NARROW MINDED, SUCK ON HIMSELF
One of the best teachers i have ever taken, this class has made me interested in business. i highly recomend him to anyone looking to actually learn about the subject matter. if your looking to sclack of and learn nothing don't take this class. but if you want to learn, he is great.
Bonnie is great teacher, but make sure you show up and listen to what he has to say. Also, see him during office hours, it is more bennificial than with most teachers
so republican i love it!
He has a tons of business experience and a great sense of humor. ALL you have to do is come to class and enjoy. READ THE TEXTBOOK word-by-word cuz it's all in the quizzes, nothing tricky.
The best teacher at SBCC. Smart and fair man!! Take the class!!!
Best class I had at SBCC. This guy totally inspired me to work hard and to change my major to business.
He's a good teacher with an interesting and straight-forward personality and covers the class material really well. But he dropped me for just two absences so damn him for that.
BEST TEACHER AT SBCC!!! He is hard but as long as you keep in contact with him and the tutors you will do fine.
what a jerk, he gives off this attitude that he is going to be very helpful and nice in his office, and he will give you constructive criticsism, but instead he tears you a new one when instructions were board in the first place
Hard class, project is crazy tons of busy work, rolll call, calls on students in class overall he just has his own very original style of teaching, i din't like it
Excellent communicator. Expects a lot from students which I think is a good thing.
Great teacher, but difficult at times. Go to office hours, they help a lot!!
Likes to talk about himself a lot; very self-important. Spends a lot of time with male students and doesn't have any respect for women. He's arrogant and rude, but he does know what he's teaching. Don't take this class if you have trouble being ridiculed, or if you get overwhelmed. He had some kids near tears when I took this class a few years ago.
If you are not really into learning about business and wont take the class seriously this is not the class for you. But Bonnie is an awesome teacher who knows alot and is really excited about business and truely wants students to succeed and rise to challenges. He is very true to his word, doesn't make many exceptions for certain students-he is a really fair teacher.
As far as teaching goes, he's so so. He tends to rant and preach a lot with his teaching, which put me off a little. I like that's he's a no nonsense kinda guy. He's definitely fair, and will help students out when he can.
It was a short course but she was very informative and very skilled. Take this course if you want to learn some basics the right way.
usual quizes and roll call all the time- thats the only negative thing I saw in that teacher. other than that, it was a good class. he expects a lot from you, so that motivated me to study and actully learn some stuff! Very inspiring!!!
Very good
He's good. Do the work and read the book and you're set. Pay attention to his lectures, sometimes they're important. Ask questions if you don't understand. Use the tutors and his office hours. Have all his handouts with you he gives you credit for them.
He's a really great teacher. Just read the assigned text, and go to the tutors for the practice quizzes. His lectures are interesting, doesn't lecture out of the book, he uses mostly personal experience. Just read and understand the book a lot, and you'll pass his quizzes
He is a very hard teacher but interesting. He talks a lot but it keeps you interesting and not boring. His quiz are hard but just read the book and listen to the teacher. Go to his office hours and you will pass his class
Very clear and helpful but pretty strict, you have to want to do well. Very inspirering!
Bonnie Chavez is an awesoe teacher! He's great at doing what he does and shows you the big picture on life. Bonnie makes you realize why you're going to college. He is very enthusiastic when it comes to teaching and always offers a helping hand. Overall an amazing person. Reccomend him highly!
Mr. Chavez, is very challenging-you will have to work and his class is worth all of the effort. A true challenge and a true reward-nothing is given away it is all earned-truly admirable individual-you will walk away a bette person-if you make it through.
Bonnie teaches what he knows in the best way he can. Sometimes lectures are more inspirational than informational, but he only does so in order for you to get a better understanding of business. Also, do well on the quizzes and final project and you'll be very happy with your grade.
As an online instructor, Chavez is a joke. However, that may just be indicative of SBCC's online program in general. Useless assignments, irrelevant textbook that no CEO or professional would touch with a ten foot pole, arbitrary grading, etc. Half the quizzes are graded incorrectly! You've really got to be kidding with this one.
This class is a waste of time. The professor treats it like it is a 5 credit course. His lectures are not helpful. AInstead, they are just time for him to try to tell little stories.
He is the cutiest teacher ever. I swear we signed up for motizational speaking, but it;s just what students need. He is a tough grader but a very good teacher and willing to adapt to each person in his class. he is so helpfull during his office hours and just a fun guy to be around.
He was a very intellectual professor, although his project at the end of the year put me back. I was paired up with two of the worst students, and ended up doing all of the work, which was almost impossible. My grad suffered tremendously, I wish he wouldve cared a little more about students who suffered in terrible groups. Great speaker!
Took this class online. The instructor didn't participate or gave feedback. The material is barely high school level and is common knowledge to most people. Grading seemed arbitrary. This class was a complete waste of my time and money. Would never take a course with this instructor again.
Best advise would be to "skip it!" He gives loads of busy work and only grades one answer out of all you must submit! He doesn't make his expectations completely clear but you find out in a harsh manner AFTER submitting your work. Belittles students; one gets the feeling his main objective isn't for the student's success, just his own. Skip it!
Not an easy A! Weekly discussion, MC/TF quizzes, and essay ? exercises. Quizzes were often difficult, the ?s often ambiguous and tricky. I frequently felt as though they were less testing my knowledge of the material then attempting to fool me as I often found myself answering in attempt to outguess the quiz author. Criteria for grading was ambiguo
He is tough. He is very organized which is not a bad thing. The chapter exercises are very hard. I would advise to build a relationship, by visiting him during office hours.
Hated his class. boring lecture the entire class on what you read. put me to sleep. i cant learn while I'm asleep. but i cant help it. its so boring. Recommendation: do NOT take his class.
Loved the class. Very Tough, but I can say I actually gained something from his lectures. Make sure to talk to him, it helps out alot.
I took this class online and it was okay. For an intro class, the teacher seemed like he wanted to show how smart he was. In my opinion, he did not offer constructive criticism. I would not recommend his class.
He's a great guy, a really nice person and very inspiring, however I couldn't stand the way he taught. He doesn't really teach he kinda just uses examples from his life and past experiences. The chapter excersises were killer and the quizzes were hard as hell. Definitely not a class to slack off in. I'm a good student and I ended with a D.
He's a good teacher. Once again, it appears that the ultimate grade indicated the responses below. He gives examples from his life for course concepts to help understand the material and ideas. The testing may be hard, and there may be busywork, but if you actually ask him for help, he is one of the few teachers who will truly assist you.
Good teacher, tons of useful information. Warning: this class is not for slackers
Very Good Professor! Hard class, but if you read the book and learn the terms you will be just fine. Bonnie is very helpful and a great resource.
Bonnie is very professional, clear, and concise. He inspired me enough to change my major. Now I am at OSU pursuing my MBA.
what a mean dude, he is so difficult and un fair, once, he said that he took pleasure out of someone getting a bad grade, and said that he GLADLY gave that student an F, he gave me a D- and did not even care, his teach is below par and his assignment are way to hard, so much so that not even he could do them, he is just arrogant i guess, plus, i on
This guy is a joke. Most people in the class believe he is some sort of business genius walking SBCC. the dude owned an unsuccessful jewelry store with his sister. if you like not thinking an regurgitating information--then this class may just be for you.
You can't be a pansy if you take this class. Don't take this class if you're just looking for credits. The man is truely inspiring and he is flat out one of the best teachers i've ever had. I looked forward to his classes everyday for his concise organization, funny jokes, admirable and very interesting stories, and his love for business.
pretty easy and straight forward just a lot of busy work. super cool guy, not a bad class at all.
Prof. Chavez is incredibly fair. He accesses each situation individually, and if you ask for help, he is more than willing to work with you. He assigns 4 major HW assignements, and they are worth a very large chunk of your grade. I will def. be taking his classes in the near future. I learned a lot from him, regarding business and life.
Not a business 101 class which is supposed to be at beginning level, If you ask for help you will be referred to read the text, Instructor knows what he teaches but doesn't his material undestandable for students
Hard. Lack of communication. Too much work.
Hands down one of the best teachers I've ever had. Bonnie challenges students to learn, and is extremely helpful to those who seek his assistance. Go to class, read the material, and you will be fine. Slack off and skip class and you will get what you deserve.
Amount of work he expects us to do is ridiculous. When asked for clarification or assistance preached nothing but repetitive "allegorical" stories of his own life and his failed jewelry business from the 70s. Entire classes spent being preached to. I'd prefer a teacher who actually covered course material and for one time, stayed on task.
this guy has a huge ego, he thinks he is one of the best teachers in the world, i beg to differ. he is always bragging about what money he makes. he thinks he is a god, he is pretty much a joke. he is an OK teacher but only if you can looks past his terrible personality. he reminds of a HS gym teacher from the 1950's.
I disagree with all of the negative comments made about him. Yes, the class requires work. Yes, there is a project worth 40% of your grade, and yes, you do need to read the text. We are in college people... if you got a D/F in his class, you probably deserved it. He is very fair and helpful. I recommend taking his class, he is very inspiring.
he bothered me a lot. i took this class last semester. very intelligent guy, but i didnt like this class at all. he chooses favs, once i began going into his office hours and sucking up, my grade reflected that. I usually get an A on every paper and he would give me C's. very annoying...he puts you on the spot and wrote his own text
Bonnie is a great professor, VERY fair, VERY critical, the class is a lot of work but it is an awesome experience, the project is 40% of the grade but if you slowly start doing work right when its assigned you'd be surprised at how easily it flows together. Great stories, great examples, one of the most well spoken people i've met in a while.
Honestly this class has been the only class I have ever taken that I look forward to going to. During his motivating lectures I got tingles down my spine. Really hard class that if you want to get an A you have to want it. Awesome professor. Awesome class.
Hard class, everything you need to know about a business is crammed in this class. Great teacher tho, Wish i coulda done better
Slightly arrogant and condisending. Very unhelpful. Got very little out of class.
Bonnie is the best teacher ever! It's a business class so expect to work hard. He is really "chill" you just have to go to his office hours to get to know him. He doesn't make or break the class it's you the student that can make or break the class. He knows what he is talking about.
very difficult teacher, avoid him at all costs. he is very rude. he really dose not teach, he just mumbles about his own life stories, that are extremely boring, i learned absolutely nothing in the class. he tells the class how he look forward to giving back bad grade, what is with that? what kind of teacher wants that. don't take HIS class.
this professor is the WORST. not clear when during lecture and dos not not present relevant material. his test are based on stuff that he dons not teach. reading is very hard. i dropped his class and took it with a different teacher and go an A+. he is not very approachable. very selfish and lazy about the class quality
IF you want to get an F, take this teacher, if you want to get offended by rude remarks, take this teacher, if you want to have a bad time this semester, bu all means, take this professor.
not very clear, some of the things he teaches are in accurate, and a lot of the time his lecture are very ambiguous. shows little enthusiasm in is work. did not learn much. just had to work a lot for nothing. has very unfair paper where your graded on other students!!! no matter how good a student you are, you cant pass his class.academic nightmare
Do not take his class. period
Bonnie is just amazing. This might be one of the hardest class at school, so automatically people tend to criticize him. It is all up to you that you are going to like him or dislike him. It is all up to your effort and attitude that the class is going to be fun and beneficial or not. One thing for sure, he definitely knows what he is doing
Go ahead and take this class if you want to fail. You are doomed to fail
bonie teaches because he loves it. he wants a part of him to be brought into the business world. he has seen the real world and teaches you the mistakes he has made so you wont have to make them. no doubt this class is chalenging but if you are up for the challenge and want to learn some valuable real world information, i suggest taking this class.
WARNING: If you must take management 101 for your degree, TAKE IT ELSEWHERE. This class was a bad dream. No feedback, no input, no encouragement from instructor. Exams are inappropriately long, complicated and punishing. Grading is punitive. Isolation from fellow students is built in to the way instructor has set up the class.
This has been one of the most challenging classes that I have taken so far. I found Bonnie to be clear in expectations, clear in presenting material, very fair and very accessible. This is a pay attention course and may challenge most people. I got a "B", could have done better work and did better than I thought I deserved. Take this class!
Lectures were mostly stories about his own personal life. He wasn't very clear about his expectations for the final group project and was rude when our group went to his office hours to discuss our progress. This teacher has a condescending attitude and I didn't learn much in this class. I ended up with a C and I was just happy it was over!!!
Mr. Chaves is the BEST teacher I ever had at SBCC...this class is fun, Not a lot of homework. Just read and attend to class(he does not mind if your late) and you can get A. If you want to learn something new take this class. Easy teacher and sometimes he will give extra credit and you dont have to do it right to get full credit. GREAT TEACHER
Assigments is to read the book and no lecture notes.Discussion grade is based on his opinion if you are on topic or not. No encouragement or show interests in teaching the class. Test is way too complicated and points are rank too high to accomplish. He is the only instructor who teaches MGMT 101 at SBCC; not recommand to take it at SBCC.
Good Teacher yet way of running the class needs to be modified.
I took this class on-line, so there were no lectures to attend. However, I found this professor to be very clear in his requirements, and very willing to answer any questions posed to him via e-mail. He said exactly what he wanted from each assignment. This is college, you cannot expect to sail along and not work for your grades. Excellent teacher.
Prof Chavez is a fair grader and you get the grade you deserve. However you might as well watch Fox News instead of attending his lectures. Hes a right wing propagandist who tries to influence his students to agreeing with him. He tried to convince us that Obama was a socialist and that the new Health Care Bill could put you in jail.
Bonnie Chavez is the man! Even though the class is a lecture he will help every individual out, and do what he can to help you success. The class is a bit challenging, do your reading! I wish the classes was smaller and that he had longer office hours. TAKE THIS CLASS! You will learn a whole lot about business, and life in general!
I absolutely HATED this class. Professor Chavez is the worst teacher I have ever had in my academic life. By half way through the semester I felt so defeated and a passing grade was a goal was out of reach. I would study for hours on end and I've never gotten a D grade in my life, don't take this class!
Material covered is basic business stuff. Chavez is really a joke and does not help the student learn effectively. He has an ego about him that is very annoying, not to mention that he is undeserving of. I did well in the class, which was fairly interesting. Teacher is just bad.
He is a really good instructor! Definitely inspiring! If you do your best and show him that, he will do his best to help you achieve the highest grade possible! He knows a lot and has humor. The class can be hard sometimes, but use the website according to the textbook, do your reading and you will end up with at least a B.
he is a very nice guy but rambles on about stories he makes up. his textbook/workbook is very helpful, you can teach yourself. very rude during office hours. you need to know the material inside and out before going to class... good stories; bad teacher
Teacher is great. He makes you think and work hard for your good grade. Make sure you read ahead and know your concepts. He knows his stuff and will challenge you but is always willing to help. I was originally apprehensive about taking his class but in the end learned a lot.
Professor Chavez is an inspiring, wonderful teacher who truly cares about his students. Lectures are worth your while. Read the book, go over his lecture notes, and take online quizzes and you should be fine!
Respectful, clear and direct.
Great! Lectures are worth your time, and its clear how passionate he is about business. Great to see a professor really want to help his students do well, he makes it so easy to ask for help.
Textbook is not used, but study guide is used heavily. He makes tests directly from his study guide so just buy that and save yoself some $$. His lectures are ok, some good and some i feel i could learn more sleeping. Fills up alot of lectures with repetitive stories and not very clear on what he wants you to know besides saying read the chapter.
Bonnie is one of the most respectful and fair professors I have ever come across. He makes it almost impossible to fail his class and he is a really nice guy. Definatley take his business 101 class. Hardley used the Nickels text book though... so I wouldn't recommend buying it
Bonnie is amazing.he is so helpful and really cares about what he teaches.even with a large class he tries to keep everyone involved.he will do anything to help you pass.his tests are hard but study hard and youll pass.take advantage of going to visit him in his office!
Has absolutely no flexibility. Very demanding. Likes to change the rules in the middle of the semester. Does not work with students that are struggling. He won't respond to your emails. Unfoturnately, I have to take his class if I want to graduate. He is overbearing and forgets that he is not a 4 year university professor.
Took online class which required 4discussions weekly with a minimum of 400 words for each post. The 1st post was due the first day of class. It's too bad that he is the only instructor available for this online course
Perhaps Professor Chavez is better as an instructor in person, but I took this course over the summer online. What a lousy experience. Prof.Chavez was AWOL. I ended up being "taught" by fellow loud-mouthed students. (Yes, this indeed can happen in online courses). I received an A- for the course, but who care when you receive no guidance by prof?
EXCELLENT teacher! Answers questions the same day, great feedback and direction. I learned more form this Professor because he is very attuned to making sure students "understand" and can relate to what they are reading. VERY NICE GUY!! You will have to read and listen to video lecutres (1 a week) GREAT CLASS!
Online course, weekly Chapter reading & 1 online video review, Chapter application/video where you compose 400 words how text applies to video. Prof is extremely interactive and really involved daily in helping students comprehend text to real life applications. VERY NICE PROFESSOR!! Entire online class commented about how great Pro Chavez was!
Mr. Chavez is very knowledgeable in his profession and you can learn a great deal if you come to class prepared. He encourages students to visit him during his office hours. He gives lectures everyday accompanied with a power point presentation so attendance is a must if you want a passing grade. Great teacher with very interesting course material.
In all of my college experiences, I have never had a worse professor. I did not feel I learned, rather I taught myself. There was no study guide for the exams, and the discussions in my opinion were ridiculous. I did pass the class, but for students working full time the discussions were more horrible than not being prepared for the exams.
Bonnie is one of my favorite professors. He incorporates his own experiences into lectures an is super funny! Go to class everyday because there is always in-class activities which count for most of your grade. Tests are a bit hard but he gives alot of extra credit. He really wants to know everybody even in a 130 person class. I got an A, chill guy
Seems like a really cool guy, but the attendance is ridiculous ... 3 essays a week on the same topic. Gives no prep on the exams!!
Bonnie was the best teacher I have ever had. As long as you do the homework, read the chapters, and attend class, you will get an A.
The best teacher I ever had so far! Very clear, precise and make his course almost always interesting and funny. He is really trying to motivate you even is the exam are really hard, especially the final. Everything is in his book, I study only with the book you don't even need to take notes. I got a B
Amazing teacher! He makes you want become a business major and get up and start a company. He inspired me to start my company.
Bonnie is the best! He likes to have a light and east vibe in his business classes and really values opinion. He shows you all the materials you need to know for the tests and even lets you take home the ppts. If you utilize his office hours and get to know him he will help you study for the test. He's one of those teachers your will know forever.
Down-to-earth guy that says it as it is. Pushes that self-achievement should come from hard work. He truly wants his students to succeed in life. Highly-motivating in his lectures and really helpful in his office. I am an engineering major that wasn't interested in business, but now I find it fascinating and opportunistic.
Incredible Professor. Always kept me interested in everything.
What a great teacher, he has hard exams but he is great and very knowledgeable about this field. He is always interesting and I always look forward to his classes.
This professor was undoubtedly one of the best I've ever had. His class was engaging and fair. Attendance is a must, DON'T LISTEN TO BAD REVIEWS. He's very passionate about his job and wants you, the student to succeed. He's a motivating figure and you'll always walk out of his class ready for anything. Highly recommend.
Undoubtedly a great guy, and extremely smart. But I thought business was what I would major in until I took his class. I didn't understand a thing, which unmotivated me to even go to class. If you don't go to class he will fail you. Heavily relies on the book. Even after reading the tests are hard. He is ALWAYS available to talk to for help though.
I don't know what everyone is talking about but his class really isn't that hard. There is a short in class assignment each day, but you automatically get 100% just for doing it. The only reason I gave a 3 for easiness is solely due to the fact that there are two finals each worth 35% of your grade. No homework. Study for finals and you're fine.
You learn so much about the business industry! Hard class, because most of his lectures are not that relevant to his midterm and final. But it is okay because lectures are about real life stuff! He lets you take the powerpoint home, which is helpful for midterm and final! Do what he tells you to do ICE relevant topic, go ask him for help and study!
AMAZING teacher! He is always there to motivate you in whatever you need motivation. Even if you are failing his class he will motivate you to do better and you will! That what I loved about this teacher! He motivates you, not like other teachers that straight up tell you is not possible to pass there class anymore. TAKE HIS CLASS. You will learn!!
I had a TERRIBLE experience with this insctructor. The participation for the on-line discussion is so rigid. You MUST write nearly 4 short essays per/week on certain specified days to recieve any credit at all for the the entire week! If you miss one day, you get 0 for the week, even if you did the majority. Really sucky grading policy. =(
He has fun lectures but I was confused most of the class. He gets off topic really easily and its hard to take anything from the lecture. His tests are very difficult. I went to every class and still got a D. You can't miss more then 2 classes.
He teaches in the forum so his classes are 100+ people. On the second day of class, after class, I walked up to him and said, "Hey I don't have a textbook yet because financial aid." Without asking he printed out all of chapter 1 for me. How cool is that for any teacher to do? If you fail then its your fault. Great teacher! and it meant a lot.
Seems like a great class, until the midterm. He doesn't prepare you in a way that leads to success. I studied for a week straight, just to find a quarter of what I studied on the actual exam. Great guy and teacher, I just wish he supplied a study guide.
Bonnie is a highly knowledgable teacher who is extremely motivating. He wants the best for his students. Not just in his class but in life. It is not an easy class by any means, you will have to work your butt off for an A. I highly recommend Bonnie if you want the most out of your education. NEVER BE ABSENT and do EVERY SINGLE In-Class Exercise!!
Honestly my favorite professor by far. He wants you to succeed and learn. He pushes you to do your best. Go to every class, go to his office hours and build a relationship with him. Do the in class exercises, ask questions, and you will not only do very well, but you will gain so much more knowledge. It's a hard class but it's worth it.
Came in early every time. Talked to him all the time. He kept saying how you get an A if you just do those things and stay engaged... thats not true and is a flat out lie. He is a great business man though and will get you going to the class to the very end. Glad this is his last year teaching.
Take the lab for this course: Enterprise Launch, and you will do well. Ask questions. Study the book before EVERY class. Go to his office hours. Don't treat the course like other intro courses. I got an A because the work I put in. Bonnie is realistic, a good lecturer, and cares about his students.
Great motivator, terrible teacher!!! Do not take this class
I don't care if you got a F in this class, you can't argue that the words that Bonnie said will forever help you int he business world. I think that what I learned in that class was 100 times more important than what I will learn in the rest of my time in school. the man KNOWS his stuff you can not argue that.
Bonnie is by far the best teacher I have had so far, and he really cares about teaching and getting his students engaged in the material. I only initially took the class to fill up space in my schedule, but soon after the first few days I really found it interesting because of him. Read the text book and study and you will pass the class.
Bonnie demonstrates exactly how a college class should be organized and taught. He's an amazing speaker and knows business like the back of his hand. His words will forever inspire me to become a successfull entrepreneur. I wish there were more teachers like bonnie, he's by far the best teacher I've ever had. I strongly recommend you take his class
This really is an introduction class that covers a little bit of everything. Bonnie was very inspirational and a great business man with entertaining lectures, he gives examples from his own experience. If you do the reading and keep up with the work you will do good. Bonnie is fair. Tests are multiple choice and a little tricky.
This is an introductory class but it is not a walk in the park. Bonnie is a really great professor and he inspires you to do better each day. Do the work, read the book, build a relationship with him and you WILL learn SO MUCH about business ! He is a fair grader and accept feedbacks from student too.
A great professor that knows business like the back of his hand. His teaching style is fair, entertaining, and will never make you bored. He accepts feedbacks, cares so much about his students, and encourage you to do better each day. He cares more about what you get out of this class than your grade, which is very important. Take his Class !
this class is time consuming,8 discussions, each 4 times per week and 400 words each posting there are 4 quizzes and 2 tests very hard you need to study 20 to 30 hrs of studying every week if you miss any of 4 posting for discussion you get ZERO more than half of on-line students in both sessions dropped the class, go figure
He was very interesting at the beginning (first three classes) but once he sent out homework & in-class worksheets, he started to get harder and harder without the best clarity and just became more unlikable once his view on things started to come out, and once he started giving hard work just because he didn't think another way is better.
This class is for first semester students who need some inspiration. Very little time in class is spent on the actual subject and mostly on trying to motivate his students. You will need to teach yourself the subject on your own time for the exams are on the theory of the subject and not on his motivational lectures.
Very inspirational, but doesn't spend much time on the actual content that we get tested on. There's only a midterm and a final, and in class exercises that he grades upon improvement over the course of the semester. He insists that you visit him during office hours, I never did and that might be why I got a C, but I never missed a class.
Bonnie is inspirational, plain and simple. If you are interested in business, Bonnie's passion will resonate with you easily and you will find it useful you took the class. Plan on meeting with Bonnie after class for a few minutes if you want to get an A in the class. I wish I could hire Bonnie advise me in my business one day. thanks
Incredibly great teacher if your looking to learn a lot his classes cover a lot of topics he knows his stuff he's passionate about what he teaches if you need help go ask him he'll be there for u def recommend him
Bonnie is a great instructor and I would take his class again. He is VERY inspirational and genuinely cares about his students. I HIGHLY recommend that you use his office hours to get feedback from him. His tests are really hard, along with the in-class exercises, but if you read the chapters before class and pay attention, you will do well.
His enthusiasm and passion towards what he does is something I truly value in class. I have learned a lot, and feel this class was very well worth my time. If you are taking this class, you most likely are going into business, so why would you not pay attention and set yourself up for failure? Let him teach you, and you will grow a lot from it.
He's amazing. His lectures are inspiring and prepares you for going into real business. I've learned so much from him and his lectures. Make sure you read the textbook beforehand and go to his office hour to ask for feedback. The midterm is difficult but he'll give you extra credit exercise, take it seriously.
I think that the discussion post requirements are silly. You might as well be writing an essay 3 times a week since it has to be minimum of 600 words each with citations. This normally wouldn't be an issue but he's asking for opinion posts yet requiring research format. If you want research posts give us a topic and appropriate prompts.
Bonnie is a great speaker. However, you have to study in great detail both the book and the examples that he gives in class. He has a very high standard for the writing exercises and midterm writing portion. Great teacher, just don't think you can pass this without serious effort.
his philosophy is: there are no right or wrong to the answer. Although if you do not answer what he expects, it is totally wrong to him. Also, his questions is so embracing that can have multiple answer and you must guess what he wants, because, as I mentioned before, if you do not write what his wants, it is wrong.
Mr. Chaves motivated me to be a better team member. The Discussions were challenging and rewarding. Thank you for your encouragement and guidance.
Bonnie is a very nice, approachable and respected professor on campus. However, he does not give you the help/tools you need to succeed in his class. Its either his way or the high way. To succeed in the class you will essentially have to teach yourself the material. Tests are EXTREMELY hard & will leave you frustrated & feeling like a failure.
His lack of common sense & unwise thinking makes the test very hard. It is based on his opinion rather than facts. Even if you study hard you'll end up guessing 40% of the test. Easy B. However be prepared for his female thinking: he changes his mind very often: kind of foolish. I have answered the essay question right & he still marked me wrong.
Chaves is super passionate he serves better as a motivational speaker than a professor. His lectures are useless as the test are nothing alike, instead just read his book very carefully as the questions are very specific. He makes an emphasis in visiting him and I do suggest you do because you won't get an A without it even if they are just to chat
Very inspirational which is awesome! But for being a business class I feel like there could be better options. Most information is from readings while in class lectures are very abstract. He knows a lot about business, no arguing there. Just that he doesn't really talk about what you'd need to know.
Bonnie has definitely been the best professor I've ever had. Expect to read the textbook to do well on the quizzes and accurately answer the In Class Exercises. Bonnie does lecture from the textbook, but his lectures go far beyond reiterating the text. He extends his lectures to cover real world scenarios. I always left class feeling inspired.
Even though he's a nice guy, his class is very difficult and his test questions are opinion based. BTW attend every class!! He runs the class like high school and keeps attendance.
Bonnie Chavez was a solid teacher and the class was not too difficult. In class Exercises made up 30% of the grade and required you to have a good understanding on the topic. We had 3 major quizzes all online and the final was a take home test.
This professor makes the Management 101 class VERY DIFFICULT. Required Discussion posts are supposed to be 600 words minimum and post 4 of those each week, along with quizzes and required reading. Mostly everyone dropped out of the online class.
He really is a nice guy but seems as though he tries really hard to be inspiring but it comes across as if he's just wasting class time. The class really isn't that difficult as long as you are engaged. The homework is minimal just show up to class since there are a lot of in class exercises. He is accessible outside of class too. Easy A but boring
Do not take this trash professor. Talk about a joke.... AVOID AT ALL COSTS. POS
most amazing teacher I've ever had by far. I recommend every student and teacher to take this class. Even if you don't think you'll like business- Bonnie Chavez will make you feel like you're capable of achieving your dreams.
Overall he's a nice guy that genuinely wants his students to succeed. However, his class was one of the worst classes I've ever taken. His lectures are boring and confusing, he grades based on attendance, very tough grader, and if you don't go to his office hours the best you can get is a C.
His class material is common sense, but he makes his tests extremely frustrating. No extra credit opportunity at all. Overall, he's cool but do not take this class if you want to get an easy A
Spends more time trying to seem inspirational than keeping the class engaged. First time Ive been told I dont have the time when going to office hours to understand a topic. Granted it was the week before finals but his office hours were open and no one was waiting. Makes accommodations only if he likes you. Not much control over your grade.
His class is pretty hard, I will say that. He definitely cares for his students. If you put in the effort, he sees that. You will get the grade you deserve.
Bonnie is seriously the best professor at SBCC! Yes it is difficult, but he really encourages his students to go to his office hours and review their work.
Bonnie is a respected professor who clearly cares a lot about his students. However, he tries to inspire the class rather than teach and overcomplicates relatively simple topics which leave you feeling like you haven't learned anything. The tests are extremely hard and opinion based. He makes you buy his $150-$200 textbook. Be prepared to work
what the (insert choice word) an actual piece of (insert other choice word) do not take this class!!!
I dropped this class tonight. Unreasonable amt of work in crazy time. Expects 600 wrd post 3x a week with refs - opens disc topic Monday, 1st post due Tues! then Thurs! then Sat. book i& content s interesting, terrible rigid old bag is teaching. I will retake when i have time to focus on this class only.
Disregard all of the bad reviews on this page. The people who do poorly in this class are unmotivated or unprepared for an authentic college class. This class is not difficult, but a real eye opener. He treats the class like a business environment, which is how a business class should be ran. Take responsibility for yourself!! He loves his work.
He does care about you and your grade and he shows that. He is one of the most inspirational speakers I've ever heard and you will leave this class every day wanting to do better in your everyday life. The quizzes are all taken online and you are allowed to use any source you want. No essays or papers. The class is very doable if you apply yourself
Informative class with an inspirational instructor. Very hard quizzes and tests on his own-written book, and you have to write a graded In-Class Exercise every week to let him know you are participating. The only downside is that he is setting his students up to fail by not handing out any study-guides or chapter summary. Enjoy talking to students.
I took this class at 8am and if you want a good grade you have to go once a week to class for the ICE's which you will get 100% on if you do. The quizzes are once a week online and are based on his textbook. if u do the reading, ur fine. The final was extremely hard so dont skip class and u will be fine. one class can lower ur grade a lot.
How to get an A in this class: read the textbook, use the book and class notes (he gives you permission to) on the online quizzes, show up to class, and put effort into the in class assignments. Bonnie is a good guy and passionate about business. He cares about his students and will make you believe in yourself. Im really glad I took this class!
Missed a deadline and he never let me retake the test
First off Bonnie is a great guy, he seems to genuinely care about students and is approachable. The bad, Only way to see your grades/progress and clear up quizzes is to visit him weekly. Not easy for everyone.. ICE's are graded highly subjective as guidelines and expectations are loosely explainedusually after the fact. Avoid for your sanity.
Bonnie is amazing! Would definitely recommend his class! Many say the class is hard, but it is really not if you just keep up with the work and read the chapters (definitely buy the book). Lectures are inspirational and youll even want to start your own business after this class!
Bonnie cares a lot about his students. There's one quiz and one in class exercise every week. All the answers are in his textbook. He gives extra time if you need and he is very understanding. He's a great guy, I recommend. Just go a few times to his office to meet with him and do the quizzes and in class exercises and you will get an A.
When I first started this class, I wanted to drop out. It is a very difficult class that requires a lot of time. As difficult as Prof Chavez is, his class is worth taking. This class teaches you a lot about yourself and causes you to push yourself beyond your limits. He believes that the only way to success is hard work.
Seems to care more about being a trough grader and being right, than the student actually learning anything. He gives a lot of explanations to justify the way he grades, but his explanations lack merit. Also even if his grading is clearly wrong, he is not open to changing the grade or discussing it. Often his explanations are vague and unclear.
Extremely strict/inconvenient schedule set for discussion boards. Huge initial post may only be posted Mon. or Tue., minimum word counts on replies and they may only be posted on Wed. Thurs. and again Fri. Sat. He is inflexible and seems to be more concerned with the technical aspects/when you do the work than the quality of your understanding.
He is an amazing teacher and a very inspirational man. He does everything he can for his students to succeed. There is a quiz and a small writing assignment every week which are graded pretty hard and the quizzes are definitely not easy. Definitely worth your time but you need to put in the effort.
Bonnie is a great teacher! He explains everything really well based on reality and his own experience. He really cares about his students and put in a great effort. I have learned a lot, and I think if you read the chapter, listen in class and take notes from his PP you can easily get an A. Also, you can always go to him for help!
Professor Chavez is very charismatic. He helped me out tremendously as far as grades! I told him about my situation and about the mistakes I made this semester and he still chose to look out for me. Even if I may not pass his class because of my own incompetence he still tried to do the best he could for me so I could pass.
He gave everyone in the class 100% on their assignments, so everything was fine at first. However, 3 weeks before the end of the class, he told us if he didn't see improvement in assignments he would drop our grades, but it was too late for us to do anything. After I took the final he changed my grade from a B+ to a C-. DON'T take this class.
You know how they say those who can't do, teach. Bonnie (Man) Chavez is the perfect example of that. He is a failed entrepreneur who is now a failure of a teacher. The man doesn't know his left shoe from his right. Complete moron, and beyond arrogant on top of that. Don't take his course unless you want to hear someone ramble nonsense for an hour.
This man is the most incompetent business professor. This failure of a businessman resorted to teaching after the failure of his business before teaching. His tests are absolutely useless. I went to city college for two years and now work on Wall Street, none of his stuff is relevant or correct. His book is filled with invalid statements.
His tests are terrible. It makes no sense. Change your tests bonnie I know you read these.
It's more important for Bonnie to feel smarter than his students than to share useful knowledge. His tests are fraught with logic, spelling, and context errors. Many questions, through the use of his own written materials (he wrote the textbook), come down to coin flips.
Bonnie is cool but he's not the best. The textbook he uses is written by him so everything he says is essentially straight out of the book. I would highly recommend going in and asking him a question during office hours just so he knows your face. That goes a long way with him. The tests are open note but don't let that fool you, they are hard.
I was super disappointed, I had an A throughout the semester, and I went to his office hours multiple times to get advice on my papers, and followed everything he gave me. At the end of the semester, he changed all my grades on our in class assignments to a 14/20. I didn't do great on the final so I ended with a D after and A all semester.
His grading criteria although is very clear, very tough. I felt as if his discussion questions had only one right answer and punished those who didnt agree with his position. His textbook is a shamble and is pretty expensive. Take another Professor if you can.
Bonnie Chavez is one of the worst teachers Ive had yet. Hes old as shi so he has no clue how to teach. He has no creativity with his assignments its the same 400 word discussion post every week and he grades horribly. No matter how hard you try never expect better than 16/20. His tests make no sense and are hard as shi. Dont take him
Be prepared to think critically and express your thoughts in writing. His papers and tests make you really think about the material rather than regurgitate information. He gives excellent feedback is very accessible during office hours.
Bonnie himself is a very kind/sweet person. However, he is a completely different person when it comes to the actual course. As someone who actually tries in school and is a business major, this class was probably the worst one I have ever taken at SBCC. By far the worst content, grading scale, and experience from a class- a true disappointment.
I took this class during covid, everything was online and he was the worst professor ever. There was a total of 11 assignments including tests and the final exam. There was no opportunity for extra credit and he grades very hard. His textbook tests are terrible, he writes his own questions and answers so it was impossible to get a good grade.
He reads your work but he can be tough with grading especially if you dont align with his views. The textbook is written by him and the tests are too. The tests are INSANE. Trick questions + confusing wording. Plus they determine your grade w 11 total assignments. Hes curving the tests because so many people complain but insists its our fault.
This class was more difficult than I was expecting. There were few assignments so they all carried a lot of weight. The test questions were very wordy and hard to understand, the majority of the class did not do well on them. He posts power points with some audio information on them, but it felt like I was mostly just teaching myself.
Bonnie Chavez is a really tough grader, and his tests are equally as hard. I had this class during COVID and I felt like it was hard to improve my grade since there are very few assignments. He is also not very forgiving when it comes to technical difficulties. The tests are based on the textbook(which he wrote)so everything you learn is subjective
This is my first grade below a B+ EVER! His grammar/writing in his textbook and tests is terrible, he's not accommodating, SUPER condescending, and his online lectures always glitch. You are honestly better off not taking the course at all than being forced to suffer through his class. He seriously needs to take some writing classes bc it was ROUGH
Professor Chavez isn't the best but he isn't the worst. For the participation exercises, include direct concepts from the textbook (with specific quotes!) alongside the concepts in the video (also add quotes from video). The test questions mainly come from the textbook and his lectures. Ultimately, if you work hard, then you'll be fine.
Do NOT take his class. I feel like I understood all the concepts of each chapter however, you have to remember EVERY sentence from each chapter to do well on the exams. Additionally, he is a very tough grader. Dont waste your time taking this class even if youre majoring in business. I only took the class cause the other teacherclasses were full.
This class wasn't horrible but wasn't good. This professor expects you to memorize the textbook by heart in order to get a good grade on the exams. They're almost impossible to pass without knowing every sentence in every chapter. The discussions were fine, but he was always a very tough grader with them. Forget about EC or turning things in late
This teacher is awful. He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He wrote the textbook and refuses to be clear on anything that he is supposedly "teaching". I even emailed him for help and he told me too bad figure it out. This is a teach yourself class. The material isn't clear, subjective as hell, and absolutely nothing makes sense.
This professor ruined my life. His class was unnecessarily difficult, just because his ego took over every lesson. Hes obsessed with the textbook he wrote and wont even clarify anything about it. Ive asked multiple times for help regarding his textbook and he would reply with nonhelpful answers. Do not recommend this class
Here is a quote from his textbook (textbook is biased, he wrote it, and it is used in the class $$ for him ): Because the rapid pace of change in the workplace it has become increasingly difficult to predict what skills and therefore, what employees, will be needed on even the near future. He has horrible grammar.
Honestly the worst class I've ever taken. He literally told us to not ask him any clarifying questions because his self-made textbook would "answer it all" which it did NOT. He says he's testing "critical thinking" but each question is essentially "fill in the blank" from his textbook. He used us for easy textbook cash. It's robbery; just memorize.
A professor from hell. Do not take his online classes!!! Does not have zoom classes so youre all on your own with the sole help of your textbook, youre your own teacher. Please be aware that there is only 9 assignments and if you fail just 1 you will fail the class. Bonnie will also disrespect you when you ask for clarification or help.
Such a disgrace of a professor, if you can say that. You can tell he is a Trump-supporting Republican. His textbook was an utter disgrace. Thank God he is retiring.
