HW is easy teaching methods messed up but she's not too bad if u want to put the time you'll get an A
u definitely have to read and do ur hmwk but otherwise u'll be fine-u have to participate in class and the exams are given to u before hand so u can bring in a prepared outline and whatever notes u need-make sure u do ur work-hmwk not accepted late at all!!
Very unclear about when assignments are due. Not very flexible. Disorganized with student's grades & work that has been passed in. Barely reads student homework that students have spent hours working on. Very picky about word usage in all assignments. Most un-inspiring teacher I've ever had...
This was Child Growth and Development-online. Be prepared for a TON of reading and homework, but she will be there for the students. Perhaps she lacks tack in certain cercumstances but over all she is very knowledgable. Is very much a stickly for homework and time lines. Likes to use Blackboard.
her way or the high way....for essays, write down what she said during a lecture--word for word--or it will be wrong. if you show you're trying, she will respond to any issues you are having. so be there and be on time with all assignments in hand and readings read.
Very unclear what requirements are. Rejects and critizes everything. Does respond to concerns, but I do not like the online class at all. I would NOT recommend taking it.

Took an on line course with her, be ready for alot of work! overall her exams were not to bad, the quizes were easy, she is just very picky about the quality of work she expects done. Put in the effort and get an A, or if your not ready to work don't even take her.
ridiculous when it comes to the amount of homework and revising you have to do. she has a structured layout for how her class is supposed to work, but it doesn't happen that way. this class is good for students who participate, but if you don't, you will be penalized.
I took a summer, online couse with Prof. Kanner. THe class was extremely organized. You always knew what was due, and when. She gave weekly quizes that were easy as long as you read the discussion board. Her essays were not difficult either. I highly recommend her!
I took dev of the excep child as an OL summer class. Professor Kanner was great. The class schedule was well organized, and you knew exactly what was expected. The quizzes were easy A's, and the tests weren't that difficult. I highly recommend taking a class w/ her.
you MUST have perfect attendance and class participation or else you will fail. her tests are not that hard: you get to use notes and she gives the exam ahead of time. gives homework every class, but becomes easy.

the first few days are hard to take with her... you do get used to her tho and she makes it very clear and exact what she wants and when. there are a lot of assignments but you learn a lot and it isn't all that hard.
I took her onlne class a few years ago & it was TERRIBLE! I am an A student and ended up having to take it pass/fail because I was getting a D! Her tests aren't graded fairly & the amount of work she expects is insane. I will never take another class with this woman.
Horrible! I had her for child growth online. She gives assignments that take way too long to do and the class average was very very low. For the first exam the grades were all C's, D's and F's. Shes a very unfair grader. There are two assignments per week, one due friday and the other due tuesdays and then a quiz every week. Avoid her!
I took this class online last summer. She is very fair in her assignments and grading. She does give you a quiz every week but its based on the reading and multiple choice.. it only helped my grade. The work load isn't bad at all.. i think 3 test which consist of 3 essay questions. I spent 2 hrs a week on this class& got a B+. Highly recommend
Pretty much the momst unfair grader at WSC. Everyone got 60s on the first TAKE HOME exam. nothing is ever clear to anyone in the class. DONT TAKE HER. YOULL FAIL.
STAY AWAY from this lady. She makes absolutely no sense when giving instructions. She'll say one thing and then after you've done your work that way, she'll say she never said that even if the entire class agrees with you. Completely unfair. Always 10 minutes late to class and then wants to keep students later. Just a very bad experience.

She is awful. She helped me with the whole exam and I still failed it. She is unclear about everything. Also, her quiz questions are tricky. I will never take her again.
DO NOT tkae a class with her- i took a class online, and the assignemnts were horrible. We were to read the text, but not to refer to it. Instead, use her brief notes then rewrite it in three formats (online, reflection and essay- every week) without repeating ourselves. Based on only ONE paragraph! I wrote 35 pages in ths class.

I am taking on-line child growth.Its her opinion or you fail.The amount of work I have had to put in so far is insane!I am an A student and I'm having a difficult time pulling a B.First exam 2Bs,8Cs,2Ds and 2Es. This class = absolutely ridiculous. The material itself isnt too difficult but Kanner makes it EXTREMELY confusing (she disagrees with most of the material you read in the text and teaches it HER way). She is NOT helpful at all if you try to stay after with her. If you dont write down word for word (literally) what she says in lecture GOOD LUCK.
Took few onlin classes with her. She tells you how available and accessible she is then completely blows off any emails. Grades unfairly with weak explanations

Dr.Kanner is a tough professor...if you take her online course prepare to do a lot of work - but you will learn a lot during it! Her class is very structured from the beginning so if you do not want to do a lot of work or the class isn't for you...don't take it.
the class was rediculously hard. she has you buy the $100 book to never use it. she lectures all class and by the time class is over, you've gained nothing. take this class with ANOTHER professor
This is the worst class I have ever taken. She is not helpful and unfair in her grading. Unclear does not equal 62 on an essay exam I studied for and wrote an outline for. Yes I am bitter but I also have a 3.4 GPA. And I know others who struggled to get a C.
She wasn't bad for this class. quizzes were so easy & she let you correct mistakes for a 100. Tests were essay only & not easy.just reiterate what she says & you'll be fine.
I don't know why people are bashing her online class. I found her VERY helpful on all assignments and the online class was a lot of work, but a lot of EASY work. very clear in what she wants you to do throughout the class. For a 10 day winter session class... A LOT easier than I initially thought. Take the class if you have the chance. Easy A.

Took me a little time to get used to her teaching style. Wish I didn't buy the textbook because according to her, a published psychology book's information is all false. Kind of frustrating but as long as you take good notes during class and participate, you'll be all set.
Took her online Learning class over summer. ALOT of work for 6 weeks, but tests were directly from her wrap ups, assignments straightfoward.. Tough, but very very interesting, I would take her again!
shes awful! i am taking her for an online class and the work is really easy, but she never gets back to you! she expects you to do all this work however she never corrects your previous work. She's really lazy on getting back to you as well. Very frustrating

Takes forever to grade things.Hands in final grades late to the registrar.Does not offer extra help, is always late for class but her students are not allowed to be late(they'll be marked absent) or miss even one class.No partial credit on exams,quizzes,or essays.If you don't say exactly what she wanted you fail without chance of fixing it.
Don't bother buying the thousand $ book you don't use it.. what the book says is wrong only she is right. HAVE TO attend class unless you miss everything. Definitely my favorite teacher at WSU. Currrently taking PS210 online and she is so easy to understand. Course is laid out perfectly for you and actually is quite interesting. If you fail this class, it's your own fault.
this class was my hardest class this semester. i feel like it was not anything about child growth & development, it was about the terminology. she says everything in her own words and on the quizes if you do not put it in HER words it is wrong. its frustrating, but just listen to her and ask questions as much as you can.

Expects ALOT from students, currently taking Psych of Adolescence...for the most part clear on what she expects and willing to help if needed an gives you many opportunities to up your grade with quiz corrections and class participation. If you are shy in class, this is not for you. Yes it is ALOT of work, yet manageable.
I think she does fine covering the information for the chapters but overall the book was a waste of money Class was fun and not hard at all I will take another class with her without a doubt
She's nice, but very intimidating at first. She's helpful and will like you much better if you go to see her during office hours. Do all work, ask questions, participate, and attend all classes unless deathly ill and you'll do fine!
She knows her information very well and she is always willing to help you with homework and studying. She is very nice to me and I hope to have her again for another class.

Basically, the homework assignments are pointless since she disagrees with most of the textbook, but if you pay attention in lecture and ask a lot of questions (she gives you points every class for just saying something) it's really not bad at all.
I will never take a class with this professor again. She is not helpful at all, and if you do not do something HER WAY it is incorrect. No partial credit given on a quiz/test even if you get half of an answer correct. She takes forever to respond to emails. If you ask her a question she will rudely refer you back to the syllabus. Love her! Have taken 3 online classes with her Extremely organized and explains everything that needs to be done step by step. Gives assignments each week with everything that is due. Discussions twice a week with one reply to classmate for each. Quiz every week Reads drafts of essays for exams as many times before deadline. Tests what she teaches!
I really liked my online Psychology of Learning course with Dr. Kanner. She definitely expects A LOT of her students, but is CRYSTAL CLEAR about her expectations, and is replied within minutes to any questions I ever had. Although it's a ton of work, i'm learning a lot, and it is a 300 level psych course, so a lot of work should be expected.
She is nice, but her online course sucks. Unclear discussion questions and quizzes, strange policies regarding contacting her, makes you juggle several chapters at once which makes learning subject more difficult. Also needs to improve her understanding of Blackboard to make it easier for students. I wouldn't recommend it.
She teaches what SHE knows. You're assigned to read the text and engage in discussions on this reading, but it seems pointless. She wraps up the reading with her take on the topic (which may be more accurate than the text) and tests you on this. Courses are easy as long as you follow the very detailed syllabus. Not a bad professor, just particular.
Previous reviews are right. Class is easy if you simply print out her wrap-ups so you know what the "correct" answers are. It was weird to be reading one chapter while posting to the discussion board for last week's reading/topic. Overall she came across as condescending and controlling. Made sure I won't be taking another class with her.
Gives extensive quizzes and required discussion posts on her syllabus. She ends every other sentence with "...okay?" and posts in 15 different colors. It comes across a condescending. It is difficult to get in contact with her and her response are usually riddles with grammatical errors and emoticons.
She is a very hard teacher and grader. There is alot of work and readings. But if you keep up with her deadlines, post the way she likes them done and follow the schedule she gives you in the beginning of each week you are golden. Little tip, her quizzes come straight from the wrap-ups. If you have these handy during the quizzes you will do great!
Awful teacher. Has many rules that not teacher I have ever had has had. She is very confusing. She thinks we are Harvard grad students! I would never take a class with her again. Not very helpful. Doesn't even teach you what the book says. She uses her "own words." Whatever that is. Whatever she says go, you can never explain to her what is wrong.

Condescending professor, most I have ever paid for someone to make me feel stupid. Very unfortunate I love psych and this professor has made this class miserable. Rambles on online posts, typos make it difficult to understand, trick questions on quizes. Worst professor I have ever had very sorry I took a class with her.
Literally a nightmare. Uses a book but then says "don't listen to the book its WRONG." - Great choice of text then. Her online course is so much workload, and she basically just seems never happy with however much effort you put in. Her quizzes state that all of the info is in her "wrap up" discussion, but its not. two words, NEVER AGAIN.
DO NOT take her. She is an overly tough grader. I took her for a winter class and did nothing but sit @ my computer for 9 hrs/ day reading and working on the discussion board. She expects you to buy an overpriced textbook, makes you read it, and then teaches/tests on HER opinions. I am a straight-A student and have never felt so discouraged. awful

Shes a very tough grader. Got overwhelmed from the high work so I ended up withdrawing. Not only that, she still gave me zeros on stuff even after I withdrew (why?). Shes part of the reason why I dont want to minor in psych anymore. I recommend trying to avoid her if you can.
Dr. Kanner is an amazing professor! I took my first online class worried about how difficult it may be not having a professor face-to-face. By no means was this class easy, but she was always there with a quick email when it was needed with constant kind words. I will definitely be taking another class with her in the future.
Professor Kanner reads every phrase in the sentence and would alert you of your shortcomings. Her feedback is exemplary to the extent that I wonder how she gets time to provide feedback in a timely manner. She responds to e-mail within minutes if not seconds ans will always welcome appointment even an impromptu one. She listens and accommodates.
Dr. Kanner is actually a wonderful professor. There is a lot of homework and there are quizzes after every chapter but the content is talked about for a whole class period in depth before the quiz and they are not hard. She definitely cares about her students and their grades, and honestly if you do the work you will get good grades.
I made this account just so I could rate her. Terrible teacher. I had to withdraw. She made up things as she went "look on the syllabus for my expectations" and they were not there. Do yourself a favor and DONT do it. Don't take it. You're looking at the other rates like "ehh she seems kinda bad. Let me try it out." Wish I could have given her a 0
She is awesome! The class is very organized and she tells you exactly what you need to know for exams, in the lectures. As long as you do assignments the way she likes them, you'll do great.
Dr. Kanner is extremely encouraging and truly wants you to succeed. I was so nervous for a college course during the winter session, but professor Kanner made it much less stressful! Yes, there was a lot of work, but that was to be expected for an intersession class, but she made sure she only tested what she taught which was so helpful. Loved it!
Do the work early and often because she gives good feedback. Also, participate frequently - she literally checks you off every time you participate. Plenty of opportunity to participate though. She is very encouraging. I liked her very much.

I think this prof is on a power trip. She would deduct points if you did not respond to each post with at least 8 sentences. Made us read the long chapters only to tell us she agreed with none of it. What a waste of time. She was more concerned with being right than with students actually learning. Did not look forward to her classes at all.
Kanner is awful she will throw a fit if you do not do something 100% her way she once made me re-email her FIVE times, wasting my time. Make sure you have her syllabus memorized by the back of your hand or you wont pass. Kanner does not care about your success as a person or student. I would recommend any other psych professor do not take
Professor Kanner is an extremely tough grader. She has high expectations for discussion board posts and other assignments. You must state things in her words and not your own words or it is wrong. Her courses have extremely heavy coureloads.
No idea how she ended up being the head of the psych department. She's mean, inconsiderate, and gaslights you to do things her way. Treats her class like the f'ing military, and you can't even complain to anyone because again, she's the head of the department. If the professor is not good, the class will not be good. Dr. Kanner is a mediocre professor. She gives an overview for the week that lays out what we are covering & what's due. Look at that every chance you get. She gives extra credit which is nice. Grading wise, she is tough and does not grade stuff in a timely manner. Slightly rude to her students and gets flustered easily.

I do not think this class was bad at all. She offers easy extra credit each week. Deadlines and due dates are clear as long as you stay on top of your work. She answers emails fairly quickly as well. She posts her lectures online and take the time to listen to them (less than 20 min) and you will do great on discussion boards, quizzes, and exams.

the work itself isn't too hard, but this prof is terrible. her lectures don't make sense, she cancels class often, and is rude to her students. she doesn't correct most of your work, just gives you an A as long as you turn it in (the papers, however, are graded very harshly). there are lots of chances for extra credit work though, which is nice.
I took my capstone with prof. Kanner and she was great. Throughout the semester, you have 2 papers and 3 presentations. Every week you will have to read a research study and answer questions. Make sure to participate throughout class since she does write it down. You have to participate a couple times in order to get full points on participation.
The only time you will get a fast response from her is if she emails you because you uploaded something wrong.She doesnt grade anything, she gives you alot of work, and just a awful teacher. Will never take this class again or prof. She sucks so much I thought about switching majors. She sucks. Her lectures make zero sense. Awful teacher

She's EXTREMELY passive aggressive in her responses to emails and questions. She's very defensive as well and never takes accountability for her errors. She doesn't grade on time and isn't responsive to emails. The work in this class is just busy work and it's just too much. Why do we need to write an essay to define a vocabulary word? RUNNNNNN
This class quickly became a favorite this semester. Lectures and wrap-ups are clear, if you put in the time & effort to read and listen to them this class is an easy A. As long as you do the guiding questions and put in some effort with your answers you will get full credit. Lots of extra credit opportunities. She wants students to succeed.
Do not take this professor! She has no respect for anyone. I was exposed to Covid, she told me I had to come to class or I would lose points, so not only was she very rude, I exposed my entire class. One good thing was the extra credit she gave us. I have no idea how she became the head of the department, whatever you do avoid her classes

Do NOT take any class she teaches! This professor is the worst professor I have ever taken in my history at WSU. Extremely passive aggressive! Continually interrupts students, routinely makes mistakes in their lecture, which is only 1 class a week, and it caused more confusion within the class, expects you to know everything before class starts.
To start, Dr. Kanner is extremely passive aggressive in her email responses. I'll email her with a basic question about an assignment and she makes me feel like i'm not smart enough to be in her class. She takes forever to grade stuff, we've been in class for 12 weeks now and i still have all zeros when I turned stuff in on time.
THIS IS A WARNING DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES IF YOU CAN SWITCH OUT! This woman is the rudest most passive aggressive professor I've ever had. I had a perfect attendance grade and still feel like I learned absolutely nothing in this class. I'm a freshman at WSU and was put in her Developmental Psy. class and I personally love it. The reading are pretty self explanatory and most of the time I know exactly what I'm doing. If you're not willing to do the work then you will fall behind but I think she's a great person and good teacher.
Based on these ratings, I was nervous to take her class but she was so great. Dr. Kanner gives out many extra credit opportunities (one each week) and all the guiding questions are extremely straight-forward. Her in-person lectures can be material heavy but she is doing it for our understanding. 10/10 for me. Would take again.
Personally liked this teacher. Cared if you had something going on and gave ability to make up work. Also gives lots of extra credit. Decent work load if you take notes and do the questions every week you will pass with flying colors would take again.

From the beginning of the semester this professor has given numerous troubles. Each lecture felt like you were walking on egg shells. The professor constantly sounds passive aggressive in her emails and will flat out make you seem belittled. Feedback is never helpful.

The class takes effort, but Kanner wants students to succeed. Lectures can be unclear, but using Unstuck study and the textbook helps a lot. Lots of extra credit too.
Very nice and funny lady. She's very to the point and makes the material understandable. Mix audio lectures that you can re-listen to on blackboard. 8/10 would go again.

rude and misinforming about how "graceful" she is. attendence is super mandatory and worth tons of points, so god forbid an emergency happen because you WILL lose points. annoying discussion posts weekly but great lecture.
Avoid this professor at all costs. Her guidelines make no sense—there are 8 extra credits, but if you do more than 4, you lose points for all of them. Assignments are due at 6:00 PM instead of midnight. Her emails are rude and unhelpful. Easily the worst professor I've had at Worcester State, and I never even met her!
A lot of the students in my class, and on campus, really do not like this professor. But honestly, it has nothing to do with the teacher as a person. She has harsh expectations and grades aggressively, and over email can be passive aggressive. As long as you listen, do your work, and you're timely you shouldn't have an issues with Dr. Kanner.
If you can take someone else, do it. This is the second time ive had her and it hasn't gotten better. She suggests students speak their ideas on the lecture out loud but shuts it down and makes you feel awful. So strict with emailing but she never responds to emails. Good luck y'all
